The funny thing about ethanol is it is more polluting than gas because you get way worse mileage. It takes more ethanol to power an engine for longer because of the inefficent combustion, so pick a gas station close to your house or work, because you will be filling up alot more if you use it.

Too true! It's always nice to have the capability, even if I never use it. I would only use it if I were forced to due to unavailability of regular fuel. Let's hope that never comes to pass.

I am sitting here dumbstruck from your incredible story....thank you for writing and posting this chronicle of real life. Al Gore uses 20 times the carbon footprint of any of the "everyday" citizens of our country, yet makes millions of $$$ telling everyone else to live without, do without, and live like paupers. Honestly this plan of "green" insanity is from the UN Agenda 21 papers.....look that up and you will see why "Smart Growth" is leading to the "Smart Grid" to ration energy. Truly there is a population reduction plan going on here. I am so thankful this weekend for the Russian "hackers" or whoever revealed the CRU emails exposing the fraud of Global Warming/Climate Change. The fraud is now exposed. Shout it from the rooftops....if we can get the deaf, dumb and blind, Kool-ade drunk, idiots to get it through their heads.....I'll keep praying for that.

A brilliant essay, and I seldom use that over-used adjective! As America becomes a relatively poorer country, perhaps common sense will make a comeback.

Maybe the young eco-warrior will have second thoughts when he finds that after four years of brainwashing in college, he can't find a job. How will he buy all those modern goods produced by the evil corporations? What if he can't fly here, there, and everywhere on a whim? What if he can't afford a smart phone, an HDTV, a car? Or internet porn, lattes, laptops, condoms, antibiotics? Or food? Or heat?

We never had it so good. It won't be this good for long.

Well, y'see, if I had God on my side, my firearms probably COULD overcome grenade launchers, fully automatic weapons, etc. Or, at least, if the government did prevail, somehow (luckily, I'm sure) against God and me, I could go be with the 72 virgins when I die, right? Oh wait, that's another bullshit religion. Sorry, I got 'em mixed up for a minute.

So, for now, just for today, I think I'll work toward electing a different government, instead of challenging this particular government to a firefight.

I know it's cowardly. What can I say... If I had God on my side, maybe I'd be a bit more brave, or stupid, or something.

I don't place airs on being intellectually superior to others, as you do, anus gerbil.

But I will damn sure deal you a ration of insults, since that's the game you like to play. If you aren't man enough to tote up an A game when you go to insult people, don't play the fudge-packer defense. You're the little chocolate-covered a$$ bomb that likes to insult Christians for their beliefs.

Human person Jr. - yeah, as in "Man Lite" or "Little Boy Blew"

I couldn't give a rat's @SS less what others would agree. All they have to do is see the unprovoked insults that you make against others for believing in God.

You have about as much to do with conservatism as Hillary. And about as much sense.

"Government has superior firepower"....you are the epitome of chicken$h!t. Bet you're the first one to fold up and give away your freedoms. It's ok for someone else to put it on the line, but not you.

You are right, you are a Junior Human. I question whether you are worth the protections that my Navy and cohorts in the other armed forces afford you.

Truly, the only reason individuals like Beavan can do these little "experiments" is because nobody else, for the most part, engages in them. Personally, I don't worship technology, nor do I believe technology makes us "free" or "strong," but certainly can make us proud. And that's not a good thing.

However, the *use* of technology doesn't make us greedy, environment killing monsters, either. The simple existence of, or lack of, technology has nothing to do with the moral state of the individuals within a society, or that society's moral state as a whole. Simply put, it is possible to live a healthy and responsible lifestyle without worshipping the earth or engaging in such nonsense as this "no-impact" joke. Greed is a personal choice that individuals exercise - not a state of being for having a car or using light-bulbs.

Still, I would argue that we need to be careful in talking about technology. It is nothing more than a tool. It is not a cure for moral sickness, nor will it cure crime or hatred or any other ill of moral origin. "Science" is not a cure to any societal problem, and the Western tendency to so see "science" is why so many people are, shockingly, disillusioned over Climaquiddick. In fact, it is the reason that we even have this climate "scandal" in the first place.

the sinner,
