tedkelle; how do you know that your birth problems were smoke related, I know ppl with similar health issues that were never exposed to smoke as children. What I see on this post is liberals need to blame ppl, it must be in the DNA.. it's all so Freudian and so very boring.
Both my parents smoked and all my five siblings are strong like ox.. so what does that prove. It proves some ppl are weaker than others, and smoke is not always to blame.
As per some of the comments here.. we better ban cars.. for that is way more damaging to lungs than smoke, your all gonna die, so get over it, and stop with the cause of the decade.. enough already.. your all latent kindergarden teachers…. does Yervand have to stay after school for writing such a blasphemous piece?
But what really gets me is you want pot legal. …but smoking is bad….your worried about children, but want as many dead as possible.. dudes listen do you have any idea how much pain a baby feels when it is being aborted.. so I do not want the hear any more of you priggish words. Enough, we can see through you all now like a 100 year old worn out curtain.

Where in this post can you hear me telling that parents should smoke in front of their kids? Or that people should be exposed to second hand smoking against their will?
Now please tell me what difference does it make to you if I do enjoy second hand smoke? Why there can't be a smoking bar, like there is a gay bar, without being taxed extra for being a smoking bar. If you really care about not being exposed to second hand smoke, instead of opposing smokers, give them an opportunity to have thier space without going bankrupt.

Most people I know are fine Gentlemen like yourself David. But, between your Nicotine Addiction and the Republican Party you got sold a bill of goods about SHM. They told you 10 years ago the "liberals" were going to take your cigarettes "away" We have not had a rational discussion in this country since then. They showed you a false enemy so you would cling to them even harder. I dare you to go to a fellow smoker's house, and tell them they shouldn't be smoking around their Grandchildren, and most of already do not, talk the the one that are doing that, and watch their hateful reactions. Its the Drug.

Again responsible Adults can do as they please, just smoke outside.

I was born premature in 1968. I had too many bouts with Ear Infections, had tubes in my ears, lost some hearing. I was plagued with Respiratory Infections through out my childhood. To this day I get them. My Parents had no idea it was so bad. They were smokers. You can't tell me one good thing about opposing a "smoking bans in the name liberty"

Its an issue we should get right. Smoke settles throughout the house (OR BUSINESS) creating a toxic environment. This is my dog in the race. I know its bad. I said before, I will say again, the opposing views on this are not valid in my opinion. They are miscategorized as Freedom Fries.

tedkelle, I've been following this discussion (?) and find myself at a loss in understanding you preoccupation with the children as a rationale for your anti-smoking position. Can a smoldering cigarette represent a clearer or more present danger to a child than a pro-abortion citizen non-smoker? Does the capitalist owner of a business (bar/restaurant) not have the right to succeed by virtue of his own acumen? Do you possess, in your make-up, some genetic link denied the rest of us that allows you a glimpse of the ultimate needs of mankind & and the rest of us just refuse to acknowledge your talent?

I guess it's here that I confess to being one of those stinky smokers with holes and odors in my clothes. I have been addicted by choice for much of my 70+ years. I cannot remember ever blowing smoke in a child's face, or anyone else s for that matter. I carried them in my sock while in the Corps. or wrapped in a condom when we were out amongstum . I never thought that I was fighting for my right to smoke. I wore a badge in a metropolitan area for twenty one years. I never thought that upholding the law would entail such frivolous enforcement. It's hardly a violent crime no matter how much vitriol is added to the discussion.

It all boils down to this: allow the individual the right to his own success or failure in the market place and defend your right be allowed the right to self determination as to whither you frequent his establishment or not. Inalienable. Great word, huh?

It is emblematic how some people, usually on the left, always use children in their arguments. I don't think any sane smoker goes around contemplating on how to blow smoke on the face of his newborn baby. I also don't think that every smoker is conservative. If you want to have real discussion you've got to drop making everyone believe that conservatives enjoy poisoning their children, or they don't care about the planet, or they are all racists, or they all enjoy wars in the middle east.
I mean aren't you the same crowd who supports the woman's right to kill an 8 month baby. I think most of the children would prefer to be born and inhale the father's second hand smoke than having their brains smashed with an icepick. But you don't ask those babies because they are not babies right? they are fetus. So people should have a right to blow smoke in your face becauae you were a rightless fetus too at some point. See how absurd it all becomes once you start hiding behind the children.
By the way, most children have a tendency to turn into dissapointing adults so dont' bet on those little bastrads too much.

So we are all agreed…Smoking is sexy and saying otherwise is a "liberal attack on liberty"

What about the asthmatic children living under the roofs of chain smokers? We shouldn't mess with their "Liberty" ? Again, I find the arguments here unsophisticated. If you can't understand your personal liberty does not give the right to kill yourself or me, then what do we have to talk about?

Rule of Law should fix this, but you guys are cowards. The status quo is most definitely wrong here. And I'm just sayin'.

Its pollution. It has no place in our society.

I could care less you have to smoke, take it outside. How can argue against this?

Its like I'm talking to wall. Your Ancestors will ashamed of your fight against "smoking bans"

I myself lack the balls to tell my friends to not smoke around their kids when I am in their house. Tell a smoker anything Anti -even once, and they will hate you. Instantly. I just saw an otherwise great girl smoking and she is 6 weeks preg.

You guys win. Keep it sick like you want.
