Cheetos (Poor People Need Fathers Not Government Programs)
by Victoria JacksonI’m sitting in a waiting room. I’m waiting for my auditioning squad to execute me. I’m wearing my black and red plaid, $1400 St. John audition outfit. I’ve worn it to every audition for six years. It has a small hole in it. I hope they don’t notice. I have time to kill so I’m trying to crawl inside the head of a liberal.
The people auditioning me will all be liberals. Should I hide my recent, passionate Tea-Bagging activities, if the topic comes up? Why should they hate me? I only want the best for everyone. My beliefs in the Bible, and freedom and capitalism are only ideals that bless people. And, they worked real good from 1776 to 2008…with a hitch in the 60s where immorality, free love, the pill, drugs, divorce, and the breakup of the family started the thread of morality unraveling. You can’t have a great country without the spirit of The Ten Commandments hovering in the hearts of its citizens.
This execution squad has probably already labeled me. But, the labels, they are a’changing. Republicans have moved left. Liberals have moved left. I guess it’s The Second Law of Thermodynamics, “the world is in a state of entropy,” or decay, or left-moving. Now the word “radical” is in the mix. It’s a swirl of words that represent belief systems, or “world-views” as Chuck Colson put it in his book, “How Now Shall We Live?”
One must watch the news all day to keep up with the swiftly changing currents. Dennis Prager had the author of “Heaven and Earth” on his radio show today, and I sighed with relief. Finally, someone is addressing the global warming hoax with a real scientist. But, suddenly KGIL has canceled all of it’s conservative talk radio programs and replaced them with music. The hairs on my arms pop up. Has the Fairness Doctrine begun? And we didn’t even get to fight it?
I saw a real fat girl once, slowly walking down the middle of an empty street in a “poor” neighborhood. She was eating from a bag of Cheetos. I was in my car at a stop light, watching her. I thought maybe no one told her that Cheetos make you fat, or maybe her life is so sad that that bag of Cheetos is the highlight of her day. Sometimes, Cheetos is the highlight of my day. I said a little prayer for her. Then, she dropped the empty bag in the middle of the street.
My empathy dissipated.
Statistics confirm the fact that most “poor” people have no fathers. My father told me that Cheetos makes you fat. He also built a gym in our backyard. We lived in a very “poor” neighborhood. Our house cost $10,000 when he bought it in the 50’s. The neighborhood then got worse. All of our neighbors’ houses began to look dirty and have five broken cars and beer cans in their front yards. Our house was always immaculate and our front yard always had freshly mown grass. My father took us to church 3 times a week. He read the Bible out loud to Grandma and Grandpa every Sunday night, at Grandma’s house, because Grandpa was an agnostic and wouldn’t go to church. My father taught me how to read when I was 5, so that when I started first grade I was the best reader. I skipped second grade. My father played the piano every night and taught us show tunes, and how to harmonize. My father taught us how to water ski. My father was a gymnastics coach, so he taught me a “flip flop” and I was the only cheerleader who could do that. My father protected us. He bought a bee bee gun that looked like a real gun, to scare burglars away. We were robbed four times. He said, “I could never kill anyone.” My father made us feel safe. He gave us confidence and a history and a future.
That Cheetos girl probably doesn’t have a father. And, no amount of government assistance, housing, food stamps, free college, or ObamaCare can give her that. She needs a father.
Obama didn’t have a father. Maybe that’s why he sees the government as Daddy.
My auditioning/execution squad enters the room and all my thoughts start to swirl away. The only thought that remains is that I must tell the truth. I only want the best for everyone.

I hope that the audition went well for you. You might be on to something though. The lack of fathers and the marginalizing of fathers is one of the great ills of modern society. This is the fruit that has been born of the Great Society and Radical Feminism. Men are now considered guilty and have to prove thier competence.
Victoria, best of luck with your audition. I’m sure your Dad, also told you to be yourself. If by being a decent proud American precludes you from a job, that speaks volumes about the job, and explains the deterioration of the entertainment industry as a whole.
Good luck Victoria! However, please don't use the term "tea-bagging." It is strictly a liberal construct and has a pornographic meaning. We are Tea Partiers.
I'm poor – I live in a very poor neighborhood, I survive because of the things my father taught me. I completely sympathize with you Victoria. I can tell you that there are very few 'fathers' in my neighborhood and amoung those there are very few that are 'husbands' and even fewer without criminal records. Hopefully one day the things my father taught me will help me not be so poor and I can move.
"That Cheetos girl probably doesn’t have a father. And, no amount of government assistance, housing, food stamps, free college, or ObamaCare can give her that. She needs a father.

Amen! Sadly, many are missing the most important Father of all.
It is a shame that these folks have no standards and the government that would feed, cloth and house them also has no standards and requires nothing of them…..look at Detroit, LA and numerous other inner city graveyards………
seriously, why don't you live next door to me?! we could have so much fun together solving this country's problems. i'll bring the cheesecake. cheescake only makes you fat if you don't rail against the socialist path the gov'ment is on afterwards.
Bruce,
I suggest you clean the "turds" out of your comments. It really removes any slight hint of intellect factor from your original question.
I hope your audition went well. Thank you for being so bold.
And thank you for what you've said here. I too was blessed with a good and loving father. The problems that come when that is not present are too many to list. You've pointed out a few here. And yes, I agree with the theory about Barack Obama.
I think you're on to something. I noticed a long time ago that our society has really marginalized fathers in general, much less a strong father figure in the family.
Any sitcom on TV you look at, the father is portrayed as a bumbling idiot who would not be able to find the nose on his face without his wife's help. No wonder a 'Father' is starting to become extinct. They're merely sperm donors these days.
Perhaps some misguided feminist ideals have gone a little too far.
The more I read Victoria the more I love her. She was always my favorite on SNL and I was never sure why. Now I know. God bless and keep up the great work!
"You mind is probably made of turds"
I read this and thought, "a classic example of projection."
And then I thought,
"Bruce, turds for brains would be an improvement over whatever is in your head."
Another brilliant post VJ. Thoughtful and incisive. I always look to your contributions to BH. Keep up the good work.
You post actually made me cry. Very awesome. Hope the audition went well. Thanks for posting.
It's an observation. One that many people happen to agree with. You, however, seem to have a problem with freedom, religion and capitalism. I do hope you don't live in the US, but if you do, perhaps a move to a country that's more to your liking may be an option. Your mind is probably made of turds ("shut up and _______" what ever it is you do.)
The Democrat's "Great Society" of 1964 was supposed to replace the father in families. It is time for the Liberals to admit, daddy ain't comin home.
From Thomas Sowell's most recent column:
"The great escape from our time is escape from personal responsibility for the consequences of one's own behavior . . . government programs are far less likely to solve the country's problems than solve the politician's problem of getting the votes of people who believe the answer to every problem is for government to {do something}."
profound. please enlighten us some more.
My husband and I went to our children's open house yesterday. He was one of three men who showed. Andy usually wants to be involved, and if I sense a hesitation, I hassle him him til he agrees to show. Anyhoo, he went, and then got to hear how the teacher is looking for a "home room mother" to help. This was said numerous times, and I got a little perturbed. As the session ended, I saw Andy talk to the teacher. He later told me that he had mentioned to her how it was odd that she kept saying "home room mother". I was so glad he brought it to the teacher's attention. When fathers are involved, sometimes it seems that they are not acknowledged or shown the same respect that the mothers are given. Maybe it is assumed that Mom will do it? Andy gives our children things I cannot, due to differences in personality, gender, experience, etc.. I cannot imagine, and do not want to imagine how we would cope without him. Thank you Andy! Your lovin' wife
Wow Bruce, is that what passes for discourse in the 57th state. You really do love your Barry that’s sweet. We’ll use your metaphor so you can understand, “Barry fails much, …you can’t polish a turd.”
"…they worked real good from 1776 to 2008"
Not really.. Obama is just the latest calamity.
In 1812 US thought it was a good idea to invade Canada.. (mostly for internal political reason, those short victorious wars and all)
Then civil war..
Federal reserve gets formed.. gov manages to drive country into depression. Comes up with the solution that is worse then the problem.. Then we get to 60s and later stagflation. Even under the best (Reagan) deficit is rising and rising..
Oh and 10 commandments.. you remind me of the sentiment of US servicemen in Japan after the war. They could not believe that people with no real religion could move from society were people walked around with swords 1868.. to defeating a major european power in 1905 to challenging the superpower (an losing) in WW2. Nation's culture, morals and spirit have more to do with this then any religious dogma.
Very thoughtful post indeed. I feel like that Indian from the old commercial long ago minus the tear when I see people so easily just dump their trash when they are done and as they do so they look as if they have zero guilt in doing it. Well said that without any kind of guiding light in your formative years you just don't know what is right or wrong. I also feel sad for anyone that judges Victoria on her voice or her time on SNL, there is a wonderful and bright mind behind that facade.
I wouldn't be knocking the influence of religion in a nation's morals. It sounds like you're just making a statement off the top of your head.
Yes, fathers are so important! I have believed for a long time that many social ills are caused by fatherlessness.
Men need to step up and be MEN. I married a MAN who takes initiative, is a leader in the workplace, is a leader in our church, and is a loving husband and father. We work as a team, but I believe God wants him to have the daunting responsibility of being the leader of our family. I have my important roles. I respect him and he values me and my input tremendously. It works for us.
My father was absent. I did not feel loved by him because he did not love my mom, he did not provide for us financially, he pursued his own interests, he did not protect us, and he did not teach my brother how to be a MAN.
Fathers need to teach their sons to be MEN, as well. No more extended adolescence playing video games and mooching off Mom and Dad!
I recently started to read your entries. I truly enjoy them.
I am a father of six children. All mine, all from the same wife, my one and only wife to whom I have been married for 15 years today. She is a stay home mother and wife who home schools and reads the Bible to them each day. I wake up at 5 am each morning to have my 'quiet time'. I have my coffee, read my chapter of Scriptures, and pray for my wife, my children, my community, my brothers and sisters in Christ who suffer persecution all around the world before I leave for work at 6:30. I believe this is critical.
We too were poor, but never thought of ourselves as being poor. We had a father, and that made all the difference. My beautiful wife is twelve years younger than me and has had 5 fathers in her life. She recently, after twenty five years reacquainted with her real father. It has made all the difference in the world.
None of my children have friends that have both parents, most without a real father, and it shows in their attitude and world view, many of them tell my children how lucky they are to have a mother and father who are not divorced, and more importantly, are amazed that we don't hate each other.
God has blessed me more than I could possible imagine or deserve and I have a wife that is straight out of Proverbs 31:10 that testifies to this.
I am convinced that my wife plays a major part in me being the kind of father I am called to be. It is my hope that when I leave this world, my legacy will be that my sons and daughters enjoy a healthy relationship with their husbands and wives and that my sons will never abdicate their responsibilities of fatherhood. We need it so much in our current society, and ALL the evidence proves it.
Thank you.
"many social ills are caused by fatherlessness. "
For example, lack of a good, loving, servant-leader father can lead to…
disregard for authority (which leads to disregard for laws)
emotional and mental illness
poverty
no motivation to succeed
no motivation to learn
no motivation to work hard and make a living in our free economy
poor reading and math skills
poor achievement in school
selfishness
And as Victoria noted, good fathers teach their children to exercise, not litter, and keep their yards neat!
How nice it is to know that I am not the only conservative woman out there! The women rights movement was the beginning of the decline of the American family which has resulted in millions of people looking to the governemnt for that support. And with the secular movement moving into full swing, people now look to the governemnt as their "moral" compass. I have faith in myself and my abilities and not the government.
"I've never been poor, only broke. Being poor is a state of mind. Being broke is a temporary situation."
–Mike Todd, entrepreneur
Thank you Ms. Jackson.
As a father, it's nice to know we're appreciated. My own daughter, 16 years old, would not put it so eloquently, but I can tell, inside, she does feel the same. She comes to me when she's scared, confused, mad, looking for guidance, advice, or just a shoulder to cry on. And I consider that a blessing from God. I know deep down, she does too.
What statistics?
"Poverty rates are highest for families headed by single women, particularly if they are black or Hispanic. In 2007, 28.3 percent of households headed by single women were poor, while 13.6 percent of households headed by single men and 4.9 percent of married-couple households lived in poverty."

Don't bother actually spending three freaking minutes on a Google search before you post your vile, crude and pointlessly insulting crap. I'm sure your time is valuable.

"…you remind me of the sentiment of US servicemen in Japan after the war."
Could you please source that? I've never heard that from any U.S. serviceman who was stationed in Japan after the war. Including my uncle.
Nice testimony, Keith.
Stay away from the internet and you should be fine.
Uhhh…well, I guess it's too late for that good advice.
An awful lot of fathers are in jail, particulary in some neighborhoods, though sloth and stupidity know no boundaries when it comes to socioeconomics. . Maybe if we figured out why poverty and crime were so inter-related we could get to the root of the problem.
Gads Bruce, who pee'd in your Cheerios today? You SO do NOT have my sympathy.
Bad form, Bruce. Bad form.
Dear Ms. Jackson-
I've been reading your pieces ever since they began running here on BH, and I must say you've come quite a ways in that short time. You may be on the way to making a name for yourself as a serious commentator. I wish you the best of luck.
We are so uneducated.
Your father sounds like a wonderful person. The only place where I would disagree with him is in buying the BB gun instead of a real gun. While gun ownership is a big responsibility, it is also a right. I definitely don't want to shoot anyone, but you have to be prepared for someone breaking into your home, especially if you have children.
While I fully support the second amendment, I don't want a gun in my house if I can avoid it. I do have BB gun, but that's for shooting stray cats that use my back yard for a litter box.
For protection, I got me a dog. Big one too. Really big. Five months and he's already pushing 65 lbs. His father is a retired New York State trooper K9. And he has two uncles serving in Afghanistan. He's already got the attention and respect of every one in the neighborhood. And on top, he's a lovable, playful goof ball.
His name is Wolfgang!

A small correction of a suspicion: KGIL/Los Angeles' flip to from talk music had nothing at all to do with any potential return of the Fairness Doctrine.
The station, which is owned by a tiny company, changed formats because a new conservative talk station will be on the air in Los Angeles as of September 8, when KFWB is changing from all news to talk. KFWB is owned by CBS Radio, which is huge, and the station has a better dial position and better signal. KGIL simply wouldn't be able to compete. Just market forces in action.
KFWB is picking up Laura Ingraham from KGIL and bringing Michael Smerconish into the market, and putting Dr. Laura, formerly on KFI, on from noon-3pm. The rest of the lineup will likely be Salem or Talk Radio Network conservatives. With KFWB, conservative talk will soon have a far LARGER platform in L.A., as it goes head-to-head against the KFI talk powerhouse.
Which is not to say that there is no danger of a return to the Fairness Doctrine, stealthily or otherwise. But this change in L.A. radio is not an example of it.
"I bet the Cheetos girl doesn't have a dad." Jesus, how presumptuous. Jackson's piece is an exercise in right wing, back handed elitist pity, repackaged as the tired old half truths that have been spewing from Limbaugh's reactionary word hole for two decades. It's called motivated reasoning- "cherry pick" the ideas and assumptions that fit your predetermined worldview and the rest of the facts be damned.
Jackson's implication that socialism began a few months ago indicates her absolute disregard for history. This empty headed old bromide will be alive when some hopey Dem is elected in say 2040. Freedom 1776-2040 RIP. We've had "socialism" in numerous forms for decades, public schools, parks, medicare, public roads, rural electrification, and the golden calf of us conservatism the US military. The only way a volunteer force can be maintained is to promise the recruit some socialism (free room and board, free health insurance, free transportation, free clothing) If you think otherwise then start advocating for cutting these benefits and see how many folks join. If you are against the idea of health care access for all then why would you not call for the end of access to education for all? Stop the socialism of public education. (BTW this is my second post, I was invited back for more enlightening)
I stand by my reference to "turds."
There is no crime in being yourself. America is a nation that is grounded on values, none greater than individual liberty and with that, individual responsibility.
Nobody should be ashamed to say these values were planted here by Christans. Nobody should be shouted down for wanting to main these values, nobody should be ashamed to be yourself.
This isn't about Christans being better than other faiths, it is about individuals being free to be themselves without having to keep their faith in the closet, no matter what faith. And allowing America to be proud of what it is. The values of individual liberty and individual responsibility are what define modern conservatives.
Hi Tom,
Thanks.
Indeed, there is much to be desired on the internet.
Nonetheless, some things are worthy eh? like this site, Rush Limbaugh and Voice of the Martyrs to mention a few. Discernment in all things.
Take care.
There is no crime in being yourself. America is a nation that is grounded in values, none greater than individual liberty and with that, individual responsibility.
Nobody should be ashamed to say these values were planted here by Christans. Nobody should be shouted down for wanting to preserve these values, nobody should be ashamed to be yourself.
This isn't about Christans being better than other faiths, it is about individuals being free to be themselves without having to keep their faith in the closet, no matter what faith. And allowing America to be proud of what it is. The values of individual liberty and individual responsibility are what define modern conservatives.
WOW.. That says it all, Obama didn't have a father and wants the gov. to be the father…. Great article.. Hope you got the role, but we know how unsympathetic the left is to the right.
drug addiction, alcholism, eating disorders, etc, etc, etc…
Funny you say this, my Mom(79) has been saying if for years… She even sites childrens books, like Berenstein Bears.. Look at the Bill Cosby show, they did it there..
Oh. My. God. The expected dirty-mouthed response from a stupid, ill-educated (mental) adolescent whose notion of 'history' is Zinn's fabricated class-war fable. The sort of bratty punk who lives in the lap of the most prosperous society in the history of the world and all he can do is bitch because he can't get a free pony.
You want statistics (as if you ever took a stats course while pursuing your Anti-American Studies major )? All right- the US has GDP per capita (PPP)of $46,849, first among countries with populations of 10 million or more (otherwise Luxembourg and Macao are first). Median household income: $55,450, second after Switzerland. And that is gross, pre-tax income: in net after-tax we of course further blow enserfed Europeans away.
So, tell us what your beef is, do.
Bruce darling, you should be studying instead of showing off your dirty language like most eight-year-olds. Have mommy give you a note for the teacher to excuse you for being tarde.
Not quite. Mythbusters proved that indeed you can polish a turd. But it's still a turd inside. Much like Bruce's head, for example.
Speaking as a criminal lawyer, I think I can answer that: it isn't. In fact, a remarkable recent study confirmed what I had tentatively concluded from my own observations: the single principal factor in predicting criminality, controlled and uncontrolled for income etc etc, is *illigitimacy." So also for substance abuse, gang membership, drop-out rates and poverty.
The other factor is, not poverty, but existing poverty programs: the Great Society successfully disassociated entitlement from effort: money isn't earned, you 'deserve' it and it's given to you as of right by somebody else, the 'rich' or the 'Man.'
How unsurprising that some would choose to cut out the middleman! Especially if they are the product of three or four workless, fatherless households, often raised by Granma or Sis while Mama is out, pursuing and endless series of boyfriends (whose apperances often can be timed to the arrival of the monthly check).
You want to break the cycle? Abandon the welfare-benefit model and replace it with a jobs program. If you are between 18 and 65 and not disabled, you will *only* get taxpayer money to the extent you show up to engage in useful work, whether filling potholes or picking up trash or scrubbing graffiti.
28% is a very high number especially when compared to the other statistics. But what do you care, right? You're just another monkey flinging his crapola….
"Obama didn’t have a father. Maybe that’s why he sees the government as Daddy."
That says it all. It also bears noting that Bill Clinton didn't have one either.
Victoria! Another masterpiece of thinking! Being a real Dad to your kids requires the intestinal fortitude to face down the liberal world we live in these days and the bravery to overcome the immoral messages of the media and the entertainment industry with truth and logic. I am a real Dad and with you in spirit. Dads are the real heroes and the government is not even close. Obama doesn't have a real daddy and his subsitute is a shoddy, second rate government that doesn't care for their 'children'.
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a hole goes through a net. Our Constitution was made ONLY for a moral and religious people: it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." – John Adams
Where did you get your stats, Bruce? Are you suggesting things are typically better without Dad? Are you a father?
You look good standing next to turds.
"I stand by my reference to "turds.""
Only in reference to the substance occupying the vacancy between your ears.
Now sit still while I attemt to hammer this through your overhanging brow ridges. The following is a nonsensical statement, you boob: "We've had "socialism" in numerous forms for decades, public schools, parks, medicare, public roads, rural electrification, and the golden calf of us conservatism the US military." Here beginnith the lesson, dunce: there is an an enormous distinction, in fact all the difference in the world, between the *general welfare,* and *individual entitlements.* Try to wrap your cranial merde around that concept. Go on- I'll give you a while.
Everything you list (except Medicare) are benefits *for the populace generally.* Nobody gives you five feet of highway for your very own. Got it? If not, I'll move up to a twenty-pound sledge. The generation of 1776 most assuredly understood the distinction: Madison wrote in The Federalist, ""I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents."
Medicare of course is a Socialist program: a system of involuntarily transferring money (or debt) from one set of individuals to another set of individuals , not as remuneration for services redered or goods provided, but as a matter of automatic personal 'entitlement,' which places it across the Red Rubicon; but it's only been around for forty years and of course as predicted is now poised to bankrupt the nation.
But if that (unsurprisingly) passed right over your microcephalic head, I'll put it in terms you might understand: Buy your own damn health insurance, ya bum. I owe you nuthin'
Yes, despite the good intentions of the 14th Amend, the US trampled many in its path to greatness. But never throughout ALL of history have so many had it so good. statistics- have you never studied anything. 300 million have some of the greatest oppurtunities this world has to offer. Out of 6 billion people on earth, few can even dream of having a life as good as what is here. Virtually ever home in America has electricity and running water for gosh sakes. Do you have ANY idea how many people DON"T have that extravagance? And contrary to what the radicals would like, you can still speak your mind and NOT get hauled off to the gulag. Try that in your little MARXIST utopias. ANY OF THEM. IN ANY TIME PERIOD YOU WANT TO PICK. NAME ONE! JUST ONE, that didn't require bayonets and "camps" to maintain control.
Dingleberry, does "single leading factor" convey anything to your tiny brain?
Tell us, o sanctimonious one, what does cause poverty?
I'm makin' popcorn- this oughta be funny.
he ran out of Cheetos.
Well, of course you stand by your reference to "turds". You haven't the ability to express yourself any other way.
You are simply a run-of-the-mill obot; tossing out straw man arguments and using somewhat nasty language because that's how you've been taught. (And you've quite obviously never been in the service. I'm sure the concept of sacrifice is alien to you. Though you are quite content to enjoy the rights and freedom bought for you with other people's sacrifice and blood.)
And of course you are enthusiastic about the idea of "universal health care". Leeches are always enthusiastic about the possibility of getting something for nothing. You and yours constantly go through life with your hands out, whining and sniveling that "people are selfish" and "the government doesn't do enough". You are all too ready to trade your freedom for a handout; because, to you, freedom has no value. You believe it really is free.
There are those, however, who are not so willing to trade their freedom for the soft slavery of a socialist utopia.
the revolution to establish individual liberty over government control
civil war to spread those ideas to more people
sufferage movement to spread those ideas farther
WW2 to keep those ideas from being turned back
Moon landing
Cold War Victory
my son being born.
I think we've had a pretty good run.
BTW shintoism is a religion, and so is worshipping an emporer. religion is the glue that binds the culture, morality and spirit together.
Agreed, that sentence really struck a chord with me as well! Victoria, best of luck with the interviews! But goodness, I hope nothing interferes with your writing for us…
I, too am blessed with a wonderful husband, who is also doing a great job as a father and grandfather.
I have also noticed society not acknowledging the great work men do with the children. Grandpa takes our little grandson and daughter to the river for fishing and when she was growing up he took her coon hunting on Saturday night and to Church on Sunday morning. She is such a loving daughter and I thank God daily for my family and especially my husband. Sheila
I have but one minor argument with your article: You shouldn't refer to "Tea Party" activities as "Tea-Bagging". That is a vile term, referring to a mainly homo-erotic practice, that was brought into use by the leftists in order to ridicule and denigrate the Tea Party Movement; and they seem to derive great pleasure from being able to use such a vile term on network television.
Other than that, it is a fine article; and I enjoyed it very much – as I have your other articles.
btw; I hope your audition was successful.
"what does cause poverty" Um…er…not being employed?
I knew I liked you. This is one of the best posts I've read today, probably because I can so easily identify with everything you just said.
I hope you get the part if you want it. Keep in mind though, when G-d closes one door, he opens another.
Russia was a "Major European Power" in 1905
"This isn't about Christans being better than other faiths, it is about individuals being free to be themselves without having to keep their faith in the closet, no matter what faith."
I couldn't possibly agree more. I think this quote goes hand in hand with your statement:
"It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here." – Patrick Henry
I wish there were more men like you, the world would be a better place.
Victoria, you are bang on the mark. No fathers.
Here's a "bad father/no father" story that will leave readers shaking.
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/29787673/t...
Getting ready to say the same thing robobbob about Shintoism, also don't forget Buddhism, as well as plenty of cults, atheism, and an underground (nevertheless, strong) Christian community. And while perhaps not really a religion, Bushido needs to be considered as well. By the way, Bushido: The Soul of Japan by Inazo Nitobé (a Christian) is a very interesting read.
As a 40 year-old daughter who still calls her dad to chew the fat, discuss her fears, mull over the state of society, and laugh til she nearly hurls, I salute you too! My dad taught me to be strong, and still gives me advice on how to handle the mean people and the sad/bad times. I dread the day when one of us leaves this planet, for he has always been my solid and true sounding board. I hope that I do that for him as well now. Hopefully, you,one day, will hear something like this from your daughter, as is it is always good to hear it out loud
.
I'm an amateur comedian, and I'm teaching her how to tell jokes, timing, appropriateness, and most importantly, to know when its time to leave a joke alone, and let audience enjoy it.
Every time she makes me laugh out loud, I hear an 'I love you dad' in it.
I love you Victoria! Let's go have a drink sometime! ; )
Maybe you're not a hopeless cause after all. Ending the government's monopoly on education would be hugely beneficial, especially to the poor who are sentenced to a life of ignorance and poverty, because they don't have the extra resources to attend private schools, all for the sole benefit of the teacher unions.
Hoooo….not a bad answer, Grasshopper. Not great, but not too bad.
Leaving aside the distinction between unemployment and poverty (I've experienced the former, but never the latter), and ex arguendo jumping over the distinction between temporary and chronic unemployment, and the association of this last with the unemployable and the not-interested-in-employment….let's move on.
Tell me, O Critias, what diminishes unemployment? And what well-intentioned government actions actually increase it (damn that Law of Unintended Condequences)?
There is no profit in ensuring all members of the public have access to education. in fact there is no profit in ensuring all people have access to anything.
I see it as larger than that. If leftists can break apart our neighborhood communities, our faith communities, and finally, our famiily communities, what do we have left? To whom do we turn? In their plans, it's the government.
m, you have a point. Public schools are Socialst. That's why they are such miserable, opathetic failures. I agree completely: abolish them.
Be a man. Take responsibility for yourself and your children.
I love the fact that your Australopithecan cerebrum can't quite manage the rather patently obvious distinction beteween general and individual welfare, and so like most special-ed students describe as 'distortions' that which you can't comprehend.
P.S. The police: I take it you don't have a burglar alarm or a gun, then? Thanks for the info.
How about making poor choices with one's money? That's at least as much to blame.
Which is why Marxism always fails, without exception.
What a lovely adhominem attack. Do you actually intend to make a reasoned argument or are you too busy thinking up the next verbal slam?
Wow that kid has talent. I hope he ends up channeling in the right direction someday. He could really help on the war on terror.
I would say useful job is defined as any job that Americans won't do.
I do. Someone else put out the "lack of Japanese religion" comment. They were very religious, just not Christian. It is the transdendal belief in something beyond the ordinary world and of a greater existance. Very unlikely kamakazi would have given themselves to an the idea of a nietzchian super man marxist whatevers. Likewise nor would our brave guncrews stayed at their stations. Only the Soviets, and losing nazis, had to follow behind their own lines with shoot to kill commissars. That is why the destruction of religion is so critical to the NWO statists. Nothing may challenge the supremacy of the state, or their entire nihilist system collapses.
Daddy issues?
Nope, just the ones trying to destroy America.
Hurray for the GDP. Statistic don't lick stamps to pay my rising healthcare premiums.
No, but there is profit in supplying desired goods and services. Education is a commodity just like any other commodity and service. The most efficient method for distributing commodities and services is a free market.
And unless a customer has the means to acquire superior products and/or services, they are stuck with government hand outs, as is the case in public education. New York state has a 40% drop out rate. Does that sound like the government monopoly working?
Fortunately for my daughter, we have the extra resources so she attends a private Catholic high school which has a 100% graduation rate, and the only graduates who don't go on to college, enter the military.
Wouldn't it be great if instead of pissing away all the tens of billions on keeping the unions happy, instead the government let us keep it, and we could afford to send all our kids to best possible private schools? It would cost a fraction of what we pay now through property school taxes.
Thank you Victoria, for the lovely tribute to your Dad. You do him proud.
Poverty is largely a state of mind. Many live with low or limited incomes, but find ways to live WITHIN those incomes. These are usually in the 80% of bottom-quintile earners who rise into the higher quintiles in future years.
Your sad example with the Cheetos sounds like one of those who are perpetually trapped on the bottom. She's likely to spend much of her limited income on lottery tickets, junk food, cigarettes, have a wide-screen plasma TV with a premium cable hook-up, and keeps her children shod in Air Jordans and Sketchers while feeding them on food stamps.
As for future auditions, Break a leg.
Oh, you're too funny. First you demand statistics, and then insist they're irrelvent when you don'tlike the answer you get. Wotta rube!
Who, if not yourself, do you want to pay your "rising healthcare premiums?" There methinks we get to the rub- you want *somebody else* to pay them for you. You expect to be taken care of, you expect to leech off the productive. And then you have the gall to call your larceny-by-proxy a "right!"
Ecce Echt-liberal! (forgive the mixed languages, but I like the near-alliteration). The sponger, the deadbeat, the gimme-gimme-gimme spoiled child.
Love ya Victoria. But I just want to say that not all athiests are liberals and not all liberals are atheists. Some people convert to their religions but most people just take on the religion of their parents. I think personality traits such as empathy are inborn and are already present in us before we are old enough to learn about religion. Parents are important in continuing to behave according to consistent values (and religion can be one form of that … just not necessarily the only form available.)
I believe liberalism is motivated by empathy, but detached from the considerations of reality. It is a childlike philosophy that never grew up.
Wow! Great column. Simple point, yet so profound. Thank you Victoria.
Whoops, yah my Bushido comment was directed at that person robobbob, not you. But thanks for adding more, you make some good points! And I absolutely agree, we've had a heck of a run so far, I hope it's not even close to over.
Victoria thanks again for writing for us. I hope idiots like bruce h get edited before you ladies have to see their trash. Not that I want anyone silenced but gee whiz folks come on, do you have to sink right from exposing just how stupid you are, to reacting to someone pointing it out by regressing to 3rd grade (I'm being kind) playground language? Do you really think that encourages anyone to listen to you further? I simply start thinking about punching folks when they talk to ladies like that, myself.
The doctor prescribed meds too you for a reason. Therapy is good use of your time. Take a deep breath and relax. The world is not against you, only you are against yourself.
The "Poor" don't represent "people", like you are thinking. The "Poor" are political tools that are easily manipulated, and easily "hired" to perform political and social actions, with promises of someone else's money, or crumbs from social welfare budgets. The "Poor" are the weapon that the Marxist power elite use against private enterprise, private property, and traditional societies/economies. They are not "people", with rights, or minds, and absolutely no power of their own, as a class. They are tools, and when their functions are no longer needed, they are put in their places, or eliminated, because the Left's empty promises could be used against it, once the Poor understand these truths. So, don't start coming up with ideas to actually elevate the Poor, because the Left isn't done with them yet.
The Trolls today… wow! Did Arianna unleash her 6th grade class on the blogs!
I'm no therapist, so I won't go into the Freudian part of it, but I think it has a lot more to do with his associations than not having a father. Though that certainly didn't help.
The President is a certified product of radical left academia. He knows nothing about economics, production, manufacturing, health care, finances, or any other useful academic discipline. What he does know about is 'social justice.' And armed with that, he knows he doesn't need to know anything more. He's convinced he already has all the answers.
The most dangerous people in the world are those who are 100% sure they know everything.
Personally I don't mind being called a tea-bagger. It reminds me the left is academically bankrupt and can only resort to insults.
Know your enemy.
It's a good sign. It shows waves are being created here at BH, and they are being felt.
I agree. Its arrested development. "I want free health care, I want a higher wage, I want new light bulbs, I want, I want, I want."
Conservatives are the adults saying "You may want it, but that doesn't mean you can have it." I raised a child. I saw this all the time. The only difference is my daughter matured. Liberals never grow up.
So it's pretty much impossible for you to have a reasonable, logical debate, and instead resort to tasteless potty jokes, which by the way aren't funny in the least.
I'm going to guess your a liberal. I've seen it before. Far too many times.
We are out here, Shasta, millions strong! We will always each others' back!
"You can’t have a great country without the spirit of The Ten Commandments hovering in the hearts of its citizens. "
A profound truth.
America is becoming an amoral and thus immoral nation. The value system of equality leads to the equivocation of right and wrong, good and evil, and the life-affirming and the life-destroying. It should be noted by anyone unaware that Nietszche and the perversion of Darwin's theories known as social darwinism (a blend of aggressive atheism and the theory of evolution) had to destroy Christian values first before Marxism could take hold in our universities.
The leveling of American values, which are mostly Protestant Christian values (nothing against Catholics, just speaking historically), but also classical liberal (or Lockean) values of the Enlightenment, led predictably to the tumult the country is in now.
The social and hence political "entropy" we are seeing is predictable, and was foreseen by Jefferson. But let us say that the phenomenon has had a little help from radicals and their friends. First, demoralization; then destabilization; then crisis; followed by civil war and/or foreign invasion; this is the classic KGB model of ideological subversion.
America, wake up. These red profs are not cool. They are not your friends. They are subversives (and for me personally, traitors).
Smerconish…ack phooey! Bring back John Zeigler!!
Flagged. If a point is worth making, it can be made without invective. Enjoy Coulter, and take a lesson from her. She uses invective too, but at least she does research beforehand, and backs up her diatribes with cold, hard, facts.
There is a such thing as rational discourse, and I learned about it at the liberal arts college where I got my degree. When debating an issue, stick to the issue. Do not attack the other person; instead, attack their ideas. Bring in evidence to support your argument while refuting theirs. If you engage in name-calling, it's an admission of defeat–You couldn't convince the other side with your reasoned arguments, so you had to resort to the tactics of spurned three-year olds.
Unlike many, my mother was the one who left us. Just didn't want to be a mother anymore, I guess. She was a hippie in the 60's fighting for women's rights, etc. and has been living off the government most of her life. Still is to this day. My Dad died when I was a teenager and I still miss him, thirty years later. I chose to be an emancipated minor rather than having to live with my mother again. I hate to see how the importance of Fathers is trivialized in today's society.
Thank you, Victoria, for this article.
It's an interesting thought that I've pondered in the past. I believe it was Reagan who said slavery is but one generation away. A very profound thought.
When a human being is born, they know absolutely nothing. Not even how to breast feed. I know, I was there when my daughter was born. The nurse, my cousin, explained it to me, you have to teach them how to breast feed.
If you want to destroy a community, all you need is erase one entire generation of humans and you can start over from scratch. It's exactly the same mentality Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot tried.
It's something to be very vigilant against.
Loved the article.
What a blessing to have such a wonderful father.
God ordanied the family unit as the system to raise and teach future generations. And we have been bombarded by those who would maliciouisly attack this system thru judicial activism and moral realitivsm.
These are difficult times for the family, and I pray that we are all given the strength to endure these trials and tribulations.
You have my sympathy, I understand your point, I'm the only father in my neighborhood. The kids in this area are all lost. They hang around my house because they crave the attention of an adult male role model. They want to know how they are expected to act. And I tell them. Politely and firmly, there are rules at my house. They are welcome, but they will follow my rules.
And it works. One of the funniest things I remember was the little boy next door. His mother bought them walkie talkies so she could call them with out having to get off her fat ass. (And yes, it was huge.) He's sitting on my front porch with my wife, our child and myself, his mother is screaming at him over the box, and he's just sitting there enjoying our company, completely ignoring her.
Congratulations from one father to another!
I bet you'll also find that the majority of fathers in jail are there because they couldn't keep up with their child support payments for children they haven't been allowed to see, or maybe never even knew about.
"We are the ONLY industrialized nation in the world that doesn't have socialized medicine for all, "
That's incorrect. We are perhaps the only one without Universal Coverage, but only Canada and Britain have true socialized medicine. The others are covered with mixtures of private and public.
My grandma taught me that I am a lady no matter where I go. But its the gentlemen like you that make some places more tolerable. Thank You for looking after the ladies.
She was being sarcastic.
I had to respond to this mainly because I also remember that commercial of the Indian with the tear on his cheek upon seeing how spoiled the land and water had become. Let me tell you something ironic about that. I live in the southwestern United States. So many Native Americans litter beyond belief in this part of the country. It's an embarrassing disgrace.
I will certainly admit that most all Native American groups on this continent were treated horribly by the invading white man since the 1600s. However, it is purely a myth that the Native American currently is more ecologically/environmentally interested in cleaning up his/her surroundings.
The problem with this country is that the good people allowed evil to take over. The bottom line is that the US has evolved into an evil, family hostile, child hostile country. There is no area where this is not obvious in our society. I've lived it.
I never had a father, but rather a long series of stepfathers one after the other growing up in the Vietnam-Free Love-Timothy Leary Era.. Consequently, I have suffered for it. Most guys in prison all have one thing in common. They had no father. But they represent the worst case scenario in most cases. There are millions more disfunctional men out there in society who at least manage to stay on the right side of the law, but who never really were what they could have been. My entire life has been colored by fatherlessness, but I can say that I have never committed a crime and I've always had a job. The last time my mom called me out of the blue to announce she was getting married again, she joked I had a "new Dad" (I was 40, mind you). I told her thanks but no thanks. I'm all "dadded out".
Do any of you give credit to your mothers? It seems that that would be anathema to your beating up on feminism and equal rights? Everything in this country was great until the '60s? So are you all ok with slavery?
Some children do not have the choice of having a good, intact family. It is important that we have a government that will act in lieu of this. That is what the government is there for, to protect those that cannot protect themselves. Why would anyone be against that? How many of you "Godlike" creatures have taken in those less fortunate than you? Or do they exist for the sole purpose of making you feel "holier than thou?"
WOW, that "organizing for america" sure has great talking points!
And yet we have the best treatment in the world, so people from all over the world come here to get their difficult cases treated.
There used to be a time when fathers not taking responsibility was stigmatized by society. The destruction of the family unit has done and continues to wreak havoc on our society. The marginalization of religion and the false doctrine of feminism are sign posts of the ACLU-NOW movements championed by the left and have their grimy finger prints all over this problem. That being said, THERE IS NO EXCUSE for a man not being involved in raising his children and we as a people should have less tolerance for men who refuse to.
Okay, let's split hairs then.
According to the Institute of Medicine and others, the United States is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not provide universal health care.
And besides Britain: Finland, Spain, Israel, and Cuba all have government operated health care facilities and employ health care professionals, which means these are all truly socialized programs under the original meaning of the term.
Canada and most western European nations don't actually fall under the old "socialized medicine" definition, since all systems of health care are delivered by private businesses with partial or total government funding and are not truly governmentally operated.
I admire your willingness to aid your neighbors' children bya cting as a role model… but shouldn't you have told the boy to respect his mother and answer her?
I didn't even know what "organizing for america" was until now, thanks for directing me to the site. All the points I provided are basically common knowledge to informed people that read the news.
"For example, lack of a good, loving, servant-leader father can lead to…
disregard for authority (which leads to disregard for laws) "
No kidding. When I was growing up, both my mom and dad were good at disciplining and so on, but because my mom was home more than dad, she usually punished me and my sisters when we acted up. My dad was the nuclear option, if you will. All it took was for mom to warn us that dad would take care of us when he got home, and boy did we ever straighten up and quick! She was tough but he was tougher and we knew it. I couldn't have asked for better parents and I am grateful to them both for the values that they instilled in me.
So your assertion is that 28.3% of x is less than the sum of 13.6% of y and 4.9% of z, where x = households headed by single women, y = households headed by single men, and z = households headed by married women.
So, now to prove your assertion, you only have to provide the numbers for x, y, and z that satisfy that equation. Be sure to provide the source and, since you're so keen on elementary school mathematics, show your work… points will be deducted for spelling.
I would have, except I knew the mother. Classic welfare trash. She was screaming at him to come home because she knew he liked our house better than theirs. That really ticked her off. She lived next door, if there were some real emergency, all she had to do was get off her ass and walk to the front door.
"It's called motivated reasoning- 'cherry pick' the ideas and assumptions that fit your predetermined worldview and the rest of the facts be damned."
Isn't that what you empty headed, dishonest liberals do? Let's see, pretending that all conservatives are white southern racist rednecks, pretending that all Christians are dangerous zealots, pretending that the debate is over on global warming, er, climate change, um, whatever the hell you call it now, pretending that town hall protestors are given marching orders by the GOP (while ignoring the proven fact that Obama stacks his town halls with pre-picked audience members), pretending that people who oppose your god Obama are racist, pretending that anyone and everyone who protests Obumbler's healthcare fraud is un-american.
Shall I go on? Liberals are nothing but liars and cheaters and if there is one thing you disgusting "people" excel at, it is the cherry picking of "ideas and assumptions that fit your predetermined worldview". So shut your turd hole and quit the hypocritical lecturing here. You just look like the lying, cheating scumbag liberal that you are.
Damn, you are such a hate filled vile little excuse of a person, aren't you. Please, do run along. Preferably into an oncoming train.
Victoria, another excellent article. You may know Lloyd Marcus, his a Singer/Songwriter of the "American Tea Party Anthem", is President, NAACPC (National Association for the Advancement of Conservative People of Color) and star of the Lloyd Marcus TV Show. He has also written a very good article similar to your own. Great minds think alike, I guess that why the Government is such a failure. Anyway, here it is, http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/08/dear_white...
"The only way a volunteer force can be maintained is to promise the recruit some socialism (free room and board, free health insurance, free transportation, free clothing) If you think otherwise then start advocating for cutting these benefits and see how many folks join."
Ah, the voice of ignorance.
Those things you cite as "free" are actually part of the benefits package, and are not always included. For example, if you don't live in the barracks, you get a housing allowance, but that may not cover your rent.
By your standards, the hospital lab I work for is "socialist" because it pays for most of my health insurance as an employee benefit, and because it supplies "clothing" in the form of lab coats and gloves.
You must mean the liberal news networks, right? The ones who are in the tank for Obumbler? Most informed people would call that the blind leading the blind.
You're not fooling anyone with your choice of an online name. It's obvious that you're really Parsons.
Great job Ms. Jackson. (Didn't like your ugly vulgarity on TV but you were young now you're reborn and turned your heart to Jesus Christ so that is God Bless you.)
When the Nannie state stepped in with Social Security and medicare is when the family disintegrated.
Children took care of their elderly parents now they turn them over to the government.
Not me I feed and bathe my blind elderly mother every day. We did the same for dad before he died. We need to get rid of the the real socialism programs that have been separating the family.
Why do these young people buy such big houses these days if they aren't going to have their aging loved ones live with them. Greed, that's what it is throw the old people away or have the government take care of 'em. Greedy wall street socialism has been alive in this country and FDR started it and it has been supported by every president since. No look at us. Look at my son, a big investment banker money changer who never calls his dad or grandma.
Joann, you seem to be unfamiliar with the law of unintended consequences.
I'll give you an example: Welfare. Sounds great, doesn't it? The government will help those who can't help themselves. What's not to like? But whoops, look what happened to those stats — more and more welfare recipients every year, as people are smart and don't want to work unless they have to. So a well-intended benefit actual has the effect of encouraging immoral behavior.
Same with single motherhood. You would argue that it's immoral not to help single moms. I would argue that on an individual level, it would indeed be immoral not to help a neighbor in need. But the greatest immorality is when government confiscates one person's money (tax) to support a person who made a bad choice (divorce), for at least two reasons: (1) it embitters the taxpayer, who is forced into the position of enabler and reduces his motivation toward private charity ("that's the government's job, that's why my taxes are sky-high"); and (2) it encourages others to make the same bad choice.
Global Warming: Man or Myth – The Science of Climate Change
Historian of science, Naomi Oreskes of UC San Diego, states "Scientific knowledge is the intellectual and social consensus of affiliated experts based on the weight of available empirical evidence, and evaluated according to accepted methodologies. If we feel that a policy question deserves to be informed by scientific knowledge, then we have no choice but to ask, what is the consensus of experts on this matter."

Climate change has been extensively researched and the overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree that the observed modern day global warming is unprecedented and is very likely caused by humans. Although there is little serious debate between climate experts, many in the general public still think that these scientists are unsure about climate change and the role that humans have played in modern day global warming. The Website above summarizes some of the key research that has led scientists to their overwhelming consensus while also addressing some of the unfounded claims by climate change skeptics and denialists.
The only plausible explanation is that today's warming is primarily due to human activities. The increase in greenhouse emissions can easily account for this warming. There is robust evidence for the man-made global warming. There are no other known sources of warming that can explain the observed modern climate change. People that claim there is no warming or that the warming is not caused by humans have offered no credible alternate hypotheses. Yes, these folks make claims but none of the claims has stood up to scientific scrutiny. Because I see/hear much disinformation from well-intentioned folks, I feel it is my duty to try to educate people on this very important matter. Unfortunately, it is an uphill battle because most of the real science is discussed in hard-to-read scientific journals and most of the bad science is easily accessible on Web pages, blogs, and other forms of mass media. Worse, there are political organizations such as The Heartland Institute that present themselves as scientific organizations but these organizations are directly and indirectly funded by the fossil fuel industry and others that stand to lose if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced.
I think we have figured it out centuries ago. It is called Values. Poverty does not make you a criminal, choices make you a criminal. Sperm donors are not fathers: after all how many that you say are in jail Married the mother of the women that the donated sperm too?
How many that you say are in poverty have multiple TVs, playstations, and so on? Without basic Morals/Values you could give many of these folks millions of dollars and in a year or so they would be right back in the same place. Money is never the answer.
Wouldn't that suggest the importance of mothers?
And her Cheeto Monolgue makes a moronic joke of traditional families.
Well at least their not allowed cheetos in prison.
So let me get this straight — the best punishment for a child who has lost his father and a mother who lost her mate is to let suffer in their pit of despair? Yep, that's sure to make that wayward father remember his responsibilities and rush right back home. And, I think statistics prove that when children grow up on a steady diet of hopelessness and despair, they are more likely to become productive citizens.
And, your comment about Obama's father was just a cheap shot.
(Message to whomever is "moderating" these comments: No, I don't expect my comments to remain up here long. I'm guessing you're deleting anything that doesn't jibe with your sense of reality.)
Typical liberal response. Happens ALL the time. Can't make a point intelligently, and ends with a personal attack.
Replying to Bruce H
At least someone here has some sense. Thanks Bruce.
"Jackson's implication that socialism began a few months ago indicates her absolute disregard for history. "
I think her comment indicate an absolute disregard for common sense. Yes, it's easy to blame everything on a wayward father, and at the same time they seek to punish the young victims. Most of the people here would strongly deny it, but I think many of the feelings expressed here come from a place of quiet yet strong racism. I'd bet a thousand dollars that the Cheetos girl was black, and that's why Ms Jackson made her assumption. Are all fat Cheerios-eating children fatherless? She'd never admit it, but you all know the truth. Actually, I'd bet $10,000.
I use the teabagging word to describe myself now, kinda like how only black people are allowed to use the "n" word. It totally gives me empowerment over the "t" word when I use it on myself!
VICTORIA, I LOVE YOU! Keep up the fight.

VICTORIA, I LOVE YOU! Keep up the fight.
Overall a good and poignant article. And I think you may be on to something with President Obama not growing up with a dad.
*However* is it not also so that the President – to his credit – has emphasized the importance of fathers? And caught some heat from people like Jesse Jackson and others for doing so?
Holy cow do conservative really want to end SOCIALISM security and medicare so mom and dad can move into their McMansion? I commend you Leonard you really walk the talk unlike these pop radio conservative posers who embrace the socialism they like and badmouth anybody who does not oppose the "socialism" they don't like by calling them Nazi's. By your standards FDR was the uber-Nazi . Bravo! BTW well over 95% of the GDP, yes yes very important GDP, is still the hands of the private sector even with public education and soc. sec. and medicare.
I also like the image of a bunch of freedom loving citizens "tea-bagging" the government. (Not an individual, but "the government" as a whole)
.Well said promise keeper. Congratulations for doing what yer suppose to do, hurray. Shame on the fatherless Obama for declaring Government is the Hero day. (People without dads are stupid and deserve our loathing and pity.)
Marxism (centralized economies) always fail. Mixed economies do not. Purely capitalist societies devolve into failed states run by thugs unbeholden to government (see Yemen, and Ethopia. ) To count profit as the only measure by whcih to gauge the success of a nation only requires the mind of a selfish child or a political party called Republicans
"but at least she does research beforehand" Yes I've seen her in a lab coat – hot.
You can't explain to a conservative that global warming causes global climate change. He just steps outside and asks "was it hotter today than it was yesterday? Nope. See, liberals are Communist/Socialist/Nazi conspirator."
"Hey professor 28.3 percent is not MOST …"
Why don't you try and embarrass yourself even more? It didn't say, "28.3 percent of poor households were headed by single women", it said "28.3 percent of single women households were poor". See how that's not the same thing?
Where did you get your statistic?
I believe St. John has a lifetime warranty on their clothes. If not, they will fix the hold in it for you. Contact them directly. They are in Irvine, CA. God bless you. He will open the door that no man can shut and shut the door that no man can open. If He shuts the door for you, it just means that He has a better plan down the road!
"Purely capitalist societies devolve into failed states run by thugs unbeholden to government (see Yemen, and Ethopia. '
Chuckle. So Ethiopia was or is a *capitalist* society? Oh myy God. Wherever you went to school, you should demand a tuition refund.
A "mixed economy," huh? So if the USSR was mainlining and eventually OD'd it's still OK to skin-pop like the Europeans? Hey, they can still mostly hold down a job. And it's not like permanent double-digit unemployment and 50+% taxation (in the lowest bracket) ever really hurt anyone.
If you want a good example of a failed State, look no further than California, a once-Golden commonwealth which is now an economic basketcase, thanks to the idiocies of liberalism.
Bullshit. You're one of those NCC Birkenstock "Christians" who have confused the Gospel with government and charity with confiscation.
Ahem. Asshat, yourself. Servicemembers are 'paid' for doing a 'job.' I suppose those are alien concepts to you.
No, Joe, it's a superb distillation to its essence as to why, in all likelihood, this red-diaper baby became a malignant narcissist.
But oh, the wrath of the Faithful should anyone speak with disrespect of their Holy One!

"We are the ONLY industrialized nation in the world that doesn't have socialized medicine for all, so nearly every country besides the US must have a "Daddy" running it.'
So, if all your friends jumped off a cliff, you'd jump off it too?
Once again, the adolescence of liberalism: wanting to be just like the "cool kids." You know, the United States got to be where it is by *not* imitating Europe, which has been wrong about pretty much everything for the last two centuries and more.
In case you hadn't noticed, the European welfare states are about to implode (as will our own experiment,. Medicare).
"found that one third of every dollar spent on insurance was wasted on insurance bureaucracy and profits."
Gotta love this idea that profits are "waste." And what do you think the amount wasted on bureaucracy in government agencies is? God, you are so gullible. You actually believe that the State is a) benevolent, b)efficient and c) competent. You would replace Blue Cross (nonprofit, BTW) with the folks who brought us Amtrak and cash-for-clunkers. Man, have I got some investment opportunities for you…..
And then this: "And give up the selfish, closed mind politics" Man, that's some gall. A greedy gimme gimme gimme liberal complaining about 'selfish'- and closed-mindedness! Oh, the hypocrisy A laff riot.
Here's a clue, my sanctimoniously annoying chap: it ain't 'generosity' when it's sombody else's money you're being generous with.
Might I ask what your rant has to do with the obvious point made that fathers should HELP mothers raise their offspring? Of course, TOO many children do not have the choice of having a good intact family, that's precisely the point. It appears that you have no problem with fathers not taking an important role in raising their children since there is nowhere in your reply that even acknowledges the lack thereof. By the way, I am fully aware that I am NOT a "Godlike" creature having had to bury my own loving mother this past March. Happy trolling!
Victoria, thank you for standing up for your principals. Not an easy thing to do when you could very likely lose a job over it. WELL DONE!
Dear Ms.Jackson:
My Daddy died in 2007 after fighting long and hard against prostate cancer cuz in his own words he wanted to "stay with his girls" (my Mom and sister and me). I, however, never say I "LOST" my Dad. He is with me all the time especially when I am auditioning, rehearsing and performing. He was my biggest fan.
Everyday should be Fathers Day and would be if we could only give evey American kid a Daddy as great as ours were.
Reminds me of a story I read about Detroit about a year ago.
Apparently, they have a lot of foreclosed homes in the area. So, there were a lot of homes that had boarded up windows…until the banks stopped boarding up the windows. Why? People were stealing the boards.
There is no profit in ensuring all members of the public have access to education? Is that why the Teacher's Union demands so many benefits? Have pensions the average person could never have? Adamantly opposes school choice? There's profit alright. Unfortunately, the 'profit' for society of having an educated population is not part of the 'profit' equation.
Of course, teachers deserve to earn a living. What they don't deserve is holding the education system hostage for their benefit. The Teacher's Union is one of the most destructive entities. Another system that is run by the government, mostly dominated and controlled by liberals, and failing.

I recommend that you, and all liberals skip a breath, this will reduce your carbon output, …think green!
He had a father, I’m confused… I thought Barry came to us by, “immaculate conception?”
"one third of every dollar spent on insurance was wasted on insurance bureaucracy and profits." soooo, you'll feel better, emotionally, mentally & physically, when an even greater share is pi$$ed away in multiple layers of totally unaccountable, grossly inefficient bureaucracy? (sorry for the redundancy) just so long as there are no evil corporate profits, you'll be happy as a clam even though the quality of healthcare will suffer? ever heard the expression, "cutting off your nose to spite your face"?
and btw- for those economic illiterates among us, profits are not 'waste'.
You are not as poor as you think. The fact that you have an earthly dad, and he loves enough to watch over you. Always listen to his advice, no one will have your best interest at heart more than your dad. You also have a heavenly dad, who watches over you and your family. you are very rich. I know, I am rich, too.
It's so sad that we have to put the "fear of God" in people to make them do the right thing. I know it's not fear of God for the few of us left who respect our vows and our families but respect and love for our Lord. It is sad that we have to stigmatize people to get them to live up to their responsibilities. Some single family homes, while not ideal, are loving and supportive, usually when grandparents or another support structure are available. I work in childcare and it breaks my heart to see single mothers drag in dirty, underfed children bordering on neglect. There was a reason society shunned single mothers. Society couldn't afford to take up the slack of an absent father. Since they couldn't punish the negligent men, they had to make girls fear the consequences. Now as often we have young girls dumping their kids on aging parents. We are finding out how high the price of absent parents will be be for our society.
History is not selective memory. Social Justice is a Christian issue. The decline of the family in America did not begin with Feminism or the 60s. It is a function of hopelessness in the face of massive transfers, redistribution and concentrations of wealth which has happened repeatedly in cycles during not only American history but world history, since the beginning of the industrial revolution. The birth of democratic principles was inspired by similarly unearned redistribution of wealth to monarchs and later the "robber barons" of the late 19th century. Democracy is an intentional counterbalance with Capitalism. Demcracy and Capitalism are not the same thing. One has to do with a form of governance which is designed to level the playing field and the other is an economic system based on Darwinian principles. They are antithetical in the sense that they have opposing goals. The goal of Capitalism is to maximize profit by eliminating competition. Some call that monopoly. The goal of democracy is to insure equal opportunity to all. The genius of the founding fathers was to look at God's design in nature where everything is set in perfect balance by opposition and to intentionally design a system where the two opposing forces of Democracy and Capitalism balance each other. When one or the other overbalances, we're in trouble. And the recent two decades of deregulation of Capitalism and the resulting unbalanced rise of mulit-national, mega corporations who's interests outweigh our individual rights (and dreams) guaranteed by our Constitution has lead to the greatest redistribution and concentration of wealth in the history of the world… and rising levels of hopelessness that now engulf individuals in a majority of social and cultural demographics… except of course, the less than 1% who've benefited from that redistribution of wealth.
Give a man a chance to work and earn a living for his family, to build his own business, to better his station in life and he'll stay and teach his children the value of hard work. Take that chance away by giving all advantage to unregulated monster corporations (or monarchs) and the family structure suffers, with less hope than serfs in a feudal world.
Conserving the status quo will lead to a social/political meltdown that will make other "revolutions" (e.g. American, French, Russian) seem mild. It took the power of our Democratic institutions to redress the results of corporate greed early in the 20th century and we are in a similar cycle now.
Asking Christ to use his power to solve our current worldly issues was Judas's misunderstanding of Christ's teachings and purpose. Like asking God for a new car or for our team to win dishonors God and His Son. Instead, let's put Christian principles to work in our lives and have them reflected in the way we govern ourselves (Democracy) to take responsibility for the poor and the afflicted and refuse to debase our witness by lifting profit (self or corporate) above that responsibility… What would Jesus do? Ask that question when you think about health care.
Actually the anti-feminesta cause is growing and is addressing the wrongs that can be laid at the foot of radical feminism. See the Dangerous Women site:

Interesting to think that immorality started in the 60s; slavery, child abuse, alcoholism, rape, mysiogyny, and so forth were factors even in biblical times. I don't know of any statistics which document an increase in immorality since 1960, nor is it possible to measure those factors now vice 100 or 1000 or 10000 years ago. However, all generations write about the same phenomenon you did – how things used to be better. I think it is part of the human experience to feel that way, even if, clearly, it cannot have been true for each generation. For my part, I agree with you that struggling to find and defend truth and liberty is the best that we can do in life. Please accept my thanks for you part.

Yes, Winston. BOTH parents are important, however the role of "mother" hasn't been dminished like that of fathers.

Thoughtful observation. With the explosion of technology and the reach of the big 3 and now cable networks, you have multiple streams of information, oppinion, and broadcast material that is so "In you face" obnoxious. Growing up,it was never so up close and personal. Plus my parental units kept their eyes and ears open as to what was on the TV or radio. I 'm glad they don't have to raise us now-the stress would have them pulling their hair out!
"I have time to kill so I'm trying to crawl inside the head of a Liberal."
Victoria, ouch! Girl, don't you know there isn't enough room for you to go rooting around inside something that small?
You'd have to get a prybar to widen out a gap between their ears big enough to see a glimmer of light.
I was in the drug store this morning.
Over the speakers and loudly: "GOT A WIFE AND KIDS IN BALTIMORE JACK, I WENT OUT FOR A RIDE AND I NEVER WENT BACK…BLAH BLAH" from one of our great modern troubadors. I never listened that closely to the song before, but apparently if you have a "hungry heart" any actions you take in your life are excusable. The song seemed to even be about a sage type character giving advice to a young character, oh what the heck, I don't know, it just sounded like a guy yelling.
Anyway, that's what's wrong. There needs to be a sense of shame, not a sense of sageness, in the first line of that song.
hehe… Putz.
It's amazing how you left of center folks hold up a cross (or whatever agnostics use to ward off evil) when facts enter the room. How 'bout trying this: Get the government out of healthcare altogether! Remove the mandated coverages, let us buy coverage from out of state, and give us the same tax breaks that the businesses get. Wanna bet your health insurance premiums go down? I'll give you 2:1 odds on it…
If I remember correctly, Reagan campaigned to close down the Federal Dept. of Education, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure Newt and the conservative congress vowed to do it also. And yet, its still here.
That's the problem with government, its much easier to start a program than to end it. Which is exactly why its so important to fight back against nationalized health care. That would be virtually impossible to stop once started.
Haven't conservatives been trying to end gov't monopoly on the school system for years? Yeah, I'm pretty sure we have been promoting school choice and vouchers. Public school is another mismanaged gov't mess that we all have to pay for and that doesn't produce.
Awesome post. Your best post yet, and that's saying something!
I always think of the Antwon Fisher movie and how the child has to heal themselves to move beyond being abandoned by a parent. Obama was abandoned by his father and mother but refuses to accept the truth as his narrative. Communism feels this void for him but we would all be better served if he filled it with patriotism.
Victoria Jackson was so funny on SNL. It's a little sad to see what she's up to now…
And to think they villified Dan Quayle for bringing up the subject (regarding Murphy Brown). He was speaking truth, but no one wanted to listen.
applause
You my dear Victoria are a joy to read. I am officially a fan………
I couldn't agree more. It's sad that the Father has been reduced to an accessory, rather than Part A in an A, B, C family structure.
I remember thinking the beginning of the end was near upon the release of the film "Boys On The Side" in 1995. This film featured Whoopi "rebel without a career" Goldberg, Drew Barrymore (playing a pregnant young girl), and Mary-Louise Parker. During one of her many press outtings for the film (I wouldn't dignify the project by seeing it), I remember Ms. Goldberg saying something about "celebrating the alternative family".
I know first hand, the amount of emotional damage that being raised without a father can do. It wasn't until I became a United States Marine that I really appreciated my identity as a man. I finally reunited with my father last year for the first time since 1975, and I bear no ill-will against him at all. I hope you'll check out the results at A Week With My Father.
Great post! As a father to be (due date in December), what I learned from my father will be invaluable, thank you for recognizing the MEN who take care of their own.
[...] “I only want the best for everyone. My beliefs in the Bible, and freedom and capitalism are only ideals that bless people. And, they worked real good from 1776 to 2008 … with a hitch in the 60s where immorality, free love, the pill, drugs, divorce, and the breakup of the family started the thread of morality unraveling. You can’t have a great country without the spirit of The Ten Commandments hovering in the hearts of its citizens. … Our house was always immaculate and our front yard always had freshly mown grass. My father took us to church 3 times a week. … My father taught me how to read when I was 5, so that when I started first grade I was the best reader. I skipped second grade. My father played the piano every night and taught us show tunes, and how to harmonize. My father taught us how to water ski. … My father made us feel safe. He gave us confidence and a history and a future. … Obama didn’t have a father. Maybe that’s why he sees the government as Daddy.” –Big Hollywood blogger Victoria Jackson [...]

I love you Victoria. I, too, had a wonderful father and my husband is a wonderful father to our three children. As a family law attorney and criminal defense attorney, I constantly see the fallout from children not having fathers. I agree with the poster who says it all started with the feminists in the 60's. We need to get back to God and personal responsibility in this country.

Victoria,
I just found you on The Patriot Post. Thank you for your profound insight. The Cheetos people all over our country still need our prayers even more. They have never been taught to value or respect themselves or anything. They certainly do not know the love of their Savior, or that He wants to have a relationship with them.
Discarding the Cheetos bag was simply an outward manifestation of a view of total worthlessness and lack of responsibility towards one's surroundings and oneself. Let us keep all of the 'Cheetos People' in our nation and around the world in our prayers. Until or unless they meet the real Messiah, Obama will gladly fill the role for them and they will flock to him.
All the best to you,
Elizabeth

I've had a teabag hanging from my rearview mirror for the past 6 months. Up the 5, down the 405, no one notices, methinks. I notice and that all that counts.
