Will Letterman Face the Fire He Threw Without Mercy?
by Tim SlagleWhen felons were induced to talk, they were shown first the instruments of their torture. The King is shown the instrument of His… to induce Him NOT to talk. - The Madness of King George
And with the full knowledge of what will happen next, the current King of Late Night. David Letterman announced to the world that he has been guilty of sexual indiscretions with some of his staff.

That had to be difficult. Over the past 27 years we’ve enjoyed watching Letterman take apart people who have fallen prey to simple human urges. From Gary Hart’s Monkey Business, through Woody Allen and Soon Yi, into the Clinton years, and right up to the Palin scandal that forced an apology; David Letterman has been right on top of others’ indiscretions.
So he knew what he is facing. In a stifled apology on his show last night that sounded like it was written by Garrison Keillor, he got remorseful with the audience:
Maybe this looks better to you at noon, but six in the morning all you can think about is every terrible thing you’ve ever done in your entire life.
I am motivated by guilt…I’m just a towering mass of Lutheran Midwestern guilt
But you have to give Dave credit. He did do the right thing. A person of Letterman’s wealth and power could have paid the guy off. He also could have gone across the hall and had the guy fired.
I’m sure that CBS News, and “48 Hours,” both still reeling from the Memo-Gate scandal of 2004, would Rather have swept the whole thing under the rug (capitalization intended). They could have quietly dispatched him, and with a few well-placed phone calls made certain the guy never worked in another news room ever again. (As it looks now, Robert Halderman might be editing a Prison Newsletter in the near future.)
Yet, as Greg Gutfeld observed, he did the Right thing (again, capitalization intended). Many similar scandals have been worsened with a botched cover-up. This takes more courage from someone like Letterman, who knows all too well, the implements of his impending torture.
So now we wait for the court of Late Night to pronounce verdict. Will the other hosts show a little professional courtesy, or will they attack with all the bluster that Dave has attacked others in this predicament?
There is too much here NOT to go after: Ironic that Halderman wrote the Letter, and Letterman did the Handling.
And these women should have KNOWN they were working inside Worldwide Pants.
The top-ten lists practically write themselves.
I’m predicting that almost all the Late Nights will go after it. There’s just too much competition between the shows to let it lay. It would be hard not to.
Most interesting will be Craig Ferguson’s response. Craig actually works for the Pants, so it will be interesting to see if Craig’s impish personality will trump his corporate loyalty (assuming he’s even free to even mention it).
On the other hand, I think Bill Maher won’t touch it. Something tells me that Bill has several skeletons in his OWN closet, and will avoid it like a real debate. No sense setting up your own inquisition.
And the biggest question of all, what will David do?
Stay tuned!

Pull no punches the same way he did. This is comic gold, and now we know why he is so mean to others, to hide his own sins. He who is without sin…..
Pot meet kettle.
Come on Dave, fess up. What was his name?
"A person of Letterman’s wealth and power could have paid the guy off." He could have had the guy killed, probably. Dave handled it right.
You know he just paid off whomever he was nailing. Can't have any lawsuits now, can we.
Maybe he should really apologize to Sarah Palin, right after he apologizes to his family.
I just hope Sarah Palin does a book interview with Dave and just smiles and talks her points away. Oh you can be sure one of Dave's staffers will bring a law suit for about $10,000,000 for being forced to play with his pencil to keep a job.
I did notice he "was not' wearing his wedding ring …………….
Channeling a bit of Mae West, I think Letterman was just a little jealous of all the publicity Polanski was getting.
As an LCMS Lutheran, may I just say, "AAAAAAAAAAAARG!"
That's it. That's all I've got.
Dave is being played as the victim of Blackmail, not as the philanderer he is.
I don't think you guys are getting it.
Letterman said he did "creepy things" that would embarrass these women.
Ordinary sex is not creepy, is it?
So what was he talking about?
Karma Lettermen more Karma. Letterman is playing with his own feces.
I think that's precisely why he went to the police rather than risk any of the photographic evidence from coming out.
I wonder if Bill O'Reilly will mention this. I'm guessing probably not.
It is a sad comment on our country that people watch this guy and then actually care what he says. Avoid and ignore is my opinion.
It's so wonderful when God say's all will be brought to light, so you see how evil beget's evil and yes David Letterman you reap what you sow! While the Lord lift's up Sarah Palin and her Daughter.
what we don't know is how many staffers did he all ready pay off for all the "creepy" things? to sweep them under the rug.
I heard something about a shaved goat, a bucket of lime jell-o® and Oprah oh and Marv Albert was holding the video camera.
I’m so glad this happened to this wretched swine. This pig Letterman bashes Sarah Palin and makes sexually explicit jokes regarding her daughter all the while cheating on his wife. I hope the staffers sue this bottom feeder for sexual harassment.
No kidding! It was all about the sting and the mean ole black mailer! Dave should resign. He's literally "screwed" his career, his marriage, his family, and any credibility he had with his audience.
The king of "cheap shots" just became his own best target.
Luckily I had the wonderful fortune to grow up watching true comedians, funny, DECENT PEOPLE who found humor in life, not lives. Why don't they rerun Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Dick VanDyke, Carol Burnett and shows like those?
I'd pick them over 90% of the so called new "comedy" today.
Spot on. He is great at turning the attention around so it is all about me. Still, this is so funny. With all the other stuff happening I am still wondering about Weinstein's "moral compass" comment.
So Dave how old and how many?Any formerly from El Salvador?
1 apology for multiple offenses.
Admitted it because it would have came out anyway.I don't think this is a guy with high morals so
him coming clean on his own is a long shot at best.
Dave to Staffer- Would you like to be promoted?
Staffer-Oh of course Mr.Letterman.What would u have me do?
Dave-Thatta girl. You're going to go places with that attitude.
He has always struck me as a unfunny dirty old perv.
Well, as much as I'd like to see a sexual harrasment lawsuit from one of the women it's unlikely to happen. I'm sure that Dave has paid them off in one form or another (in show biz a payoff doesn't necessarily mean money, it's probably more likely to be a promotion onto another show, far away). What will be fun is if the guy they arrested decides to go for broke and not take a deal. Then what comes out in court, as well as the witnesses called will be a real popcorn munching, soda pop drinking moment. Bet Sarah is having a bit of a chuckle (but just a bit as she is a lot more classy then Dave).
Have a great weekend all.
The fundamental difference between Palin and Letterman is that Ms. Palin is most likely praying that he find absolution and humility that will lead to honest and cathartic self-awareness.
I'm not taking much pleasure in this. Growing up, CBS was the only channel that came in regularly (insert backwoods joke here), meaning Letterman was the only comic I listened to, so I still feel a bit of residual attachment here, even though I've moved on to bigger and better things, like Leno and Conan. I hate the guy's politics, and don't think much of his personal character, but I do respect the fact that he didn't sweep it under the rug or anything like that. All I can say about what happens now is that it would be one thing if the guy was still in nothing more than a few simultaneous quasi-casual relationships, but there's a wife and son now who will have this whole thing hanging over their heads too, and we might want to keep that in mind.
Karma, baby. And I hope Letterman gets a full dose of it.
Letterman's vile hypocrisy is as unsurprising as Hussein Obama's stunningly hilarious haughty narcissistic failure in Wonderful Wonderful Kopenhagen . His lard arsed wife who is apparently still under judicial directed "voluntary suspension of her law licence" for her part in an insurance fraud in the 1990's hilariously embarrassed her spoiled vapid self absorbed self with her cringe making me me me me speech.
This link below shows the official , utterly convincing Supreme Court Of IL "proof" of Mrs Obama's corrupt legal antics.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_LD_Ah5tLKV8/SnN3-d6opmI...
At least Hussein Obama's venal windy city cronies won't be making millions out of Olympic slum clearing schemes. And we all get to larrrrf and larrrf and larrrf at their crushing abject failure.
How would the alleged extortionist have explained this cheque (if it had been genuine) to his bank and/or the IRS??? Extremely poorly thought out scheme indeed.
Hopefully Letterman will now suffer very serious problems over his self confessed sexual harassment of women under his employment.
The shameful Mrs Obama disciplinary record
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_LD_Ah5tLKV8/SnN3-d6opmI...
A negative rating? For trying to keep the guy's family in mind? Seriously?
Isn't Letterman vulnerable to prosecution under sexual harassment laws? A boss having sex with a subordinate is the injustice I can still faintly recall from Barbara Boxer
I hope Conan O'Brian jumps all over this and has a field day with it, i cant wait.
I guess Worldwide Pants is now around his ankles
LOL Your incredulousness is apt. I guess someone was looking for a little more hate. I don't feel bad for the guy myself, but I think your comment showed decency.
Why am I totally NOT surprised that Letterman turned out to be a "creepy" sex fiend after all the creepy jokes he made about Sarah Palin and her teenage daughter(s)?
And to think I used to stay up late every night in high school to watch that loser's show…
I'm not sure I understand. Are we supposed to give him a pass for having inappropriate workplace relationships (most likely in the form of sexual harassment) because he turned in the guy trying to blackmail him about them? That doesn't seem right or Right.
Most businesses have codes of conduct where a boss/supervisor is not allowed to date a subordinate for obvious reasons (sexual harrassment, abuse or power, ect). In Dave's industry, there does not appear to be any rules. He will not be subject to the same level of criticism that he levels at everyone else. At this point, I am not sure that Dave even has a conscience.
Me too. O'Reilly had his own encounter with a female producer. He settled a lawsuit with her and refuses to talk about it.
The inappropriate relationships will be tried in the court of public opinion, and quite possibly in a court of law. Since everything will become public record, it's dubious Letterman will not be able to hide from it. The Piper will be paid (capitalization again intended). It will probably end up costing him much more than two million dollars.
So for right now, I thought credit should be paid where credit is due. He did a fairly brave thing. And he put a CBS "journalist" behind bars. That alone is cause for jubilation.
Meanwhile, let's wait and see what his peers have in store for him.

There is never a situation in business where it's ok to have sex with a subordinate.
Hey, he's a liberal, he's just breeding true…
Oops! Bad choice of words.
Ordinary sex is not creepy, is it?
It is when you're boinkin a David Letterman. Freakin' Montgomery Burns lookin' mug.
If John Edwards was smart, he would book himself on Letterman this week and bring his kid.
It would be TV magic.
I'm betting he doesn't touch it.
He hasn't made one ACORN joke.
He is still doing Mark Sanford jokes almost every night.
Pity the poor liberals, now they'll have to admit (if only to themselves) that Ms. Palin was right. And I don't mean Right. God works in mysterious ways. I hope the creep will slink his way back under a rock and disappear from view. He's become a laughing stock. Now people will laugh AT him and not WITH him. Ad sales will drop off and he will be done. Enjoy your retirement. Oh, and have fun explaining what happened, to your son, Dave. You ought to be real proud of yourself, Daddy.
Uh, the guy's name is Halderman, not Handlemann.
Nice.
good question.
Did anyone else get the feeling that the audience was really a bunch of trained seals? I thought that was as creepy as Dave himself.
Right on – Letterman did the right thing. As the one guy said, he could have hushed the guy in several ways so he was out of his hair, Letterman manned up and stood up and ate the charge, no more blackmail for him now. Plus the blackmailer is looking at prison time.
Mmmmm. You and Greg have a right to your opinion but…meantime, cosmic retribution is that this grouchy, unfunny comedian is FINALLY hilarious!!!!!!
The woman who has been identified had been living with the man who allegedly was blackmailing Letterman.
I don't see the sense in trying to blackmail someone over a sex affair in this day and age—nobody cares.
It's a lot worse than that I think. This alleged blackmailer has pled not guilty. So let's have a trial!
Where, oh where have all the feminists gone,
Oh where, oh where can they be???
link didn't work. Has it been removed?
No, I think he did it to make the material evidence and have it put under lock and key.
He's still afraid it's coming out. He didn't say he had sex, he said he did "creepy things" with these women.
This whole thing smells. Why is everyone assuming that extortion was committed? We don't know.
Back when Letterman was picking on Sarah Palin someone pointed out how much Letterman looked like
Herbert the Pervert from Family guy.
That's more true now then ever.
I don't envy Dave being blackmailed. That is wrong on so many levels and good that he had the guts to not put up with it. In doing so, however, he is going to pay the price of no longer having the moral high ground to pick on people like Sarah Palin (or Elliot Spitzer for that matter) in the matter of sexual affairs. These undisclosed trysts with staffers was probably one of the reasons it took old Dave so long to get married……and now unless his wife is as forgiving as a saint, he's lost her too. I am not sympathetic – there always has been an unspoken double standard between celebtiries and the rest of us working stiffs. Dave just fell into that trap because it seems naturaI for celebities to do so (yes there are exceptions – but that's what makes them stand out more) I would be my bottom dollar that he's going to be more upset about visitation rights to his son than staying married – but I'd guess there are some things his money can buy. Nope – Dave has truly screwed the pooch and the pooch is he!
You sure the evidence will remain under "lock and key?" In a trial, doesn't it become part of the public record? I'm fairly certain Handleman will want it made public, if only for retribution.
Not holding my breath.
LOL.
Exactly!
Letterman did NOT do the right thing.
He got caught and was forced to admit what he did.
Doing the right thing is being faithful to your wife/girlfriend.
The women he had sex with I think had to be paid off or some of them would have come forward. They must be horrified that their families will now find out.
So that makes him some kind of a hero? I think not. He just confessed because he was caught, the same as Bubba.
This is true. He did the right thing by turning the guy in. We don't negotiate with terrorists, and whatever…..I agree with that. And it does basically make him own up to what we have suspected all along: that he really is just a dirty old man. So in that sense I guess it is brave. He does have the good fortune of facing this at the same time the Polanski stuff is hitting the fan, therefore lessening anything that could possibly come out about him – because whatever he did, I'm sure he wasn't raping kids.
You know how news travels, so – I heard that she was living in the guys apartment only as convenience, no relationship. He found her diary and some incriminating evidence and decided to act on it on his own. She was not involved. We'll stay tuned.
The "World Wide Pants" has been caught with its' zipper down!
Think about what a strange work environment that must have been, or still is.
Leaving aside Letterman, because he's utterly predictable and not worth commentary, the unasked questions are:
1. How many times did this guy shake down other notables?
2. How many other stories have CBS employees spiked for their own personal gain?
3. Are there any adults at CBS?
It's gratifying to see the maggot Letterman's evil deeds have finally come to light. I hope the skeevy masher gets everything he deserves, and he is paid back tenfold for his reprehensible treatment of Sarah Palin and her daughter!
Professional courtesy? Letterman behaved like a pig on the air more times than I care to count. Why should anyone show him mercy now.
The Handleman jokes will probably come only if he does stretch this thing out in court. If he cops a plea, we may never hear anything else about this, except for possibly some snarky self-depreciating asides by Dave himself to get the crowd going, because he's just so darned edgy.
Absolutely. The guy is set for life. Way to go Dave.
Being a lefty progressive means never having to say you're sorry. Just ask Polanski and Weistein.
…while 'ol Dave is just praying his current squeeze won't take him for all he's worth.
Bad choice maybe, but absolutely true.
I have not watched his show in a cpl. of years. I'm with Gutfeld he's simply not as funny since the 80's and then all the Bush bashing became too much. He's the one that's creepy.
Some may be bitter considering the the crap Letterman has been throwing at us for decades but one must remember that when a person falls and shows honest contrition then its time to show forgiveness. I don't know that Dave is contrite but, if he is then let him be. Don't just talk, but walk the path of righteousness.
Nothing too bad will come Dave's way. Afterall, a guilty Liberal is not nearly as bad as an innocent Conservative in the eyes of the MSM.
here comes again the old story we're all used to. where is jimmy kimmel on this blame train. by tomorrow I'm sure we'll all have another great story for the "cocktail" table
Dave is the Captain of his own fate. His own decisions have led him to this prediciment. I wish him no ill will but I have also not watched Dave in years and have no intention of watching him in the future. The real question is how many Fans of Dave will stick around?
Dave only lived up to the social standards set for Liberals. Marital infidelity is almost expected in most Hollywood circles these days. I would be surprised if the other late night hosts even take notice. I promise we will hear more jokes about Handleman than we hear about Letterman. I do think Maher will jump on this though. He seems to take particular delight when others fall from grace. Plus it's the only way to make himself look good.
Funny that he only selects victims over whom he has control. His wife, Stephanie and whomever else he alluded to. Will CBS find a backbone a fire this nasty creature? Finally?
Please, he wouldn't have paid off anyone. The odds of that still surfacing once one person has put it forward are pretty darned good if not a near certainty. His millions might have bought a few weeks or even months but that's about it. There's your truth behind the action for you.
Sarah Palin must still be smiling over Dave's thing with younger women. I wonder how many were pages and if its just a club he and Bill Clinton belong to?
Looks like Dave got caught with his worldwide pants down.
Karma. It's the other white meat.
It is absolutely a pleasure watching that smug SOB eat it.
What a Hypocrite- couldn't keep the WWpants zipped?
This has to make his wifey a little miffed- I hope she takes him for everything but the space between his teeth.
What a scumbag.
I don't have to give Dave any credit. Hopefully it will come out about all the SEXUAL HARASSMENT of his staff. Where is the National Organization of Women (NOW)? Standing with Polanski, supporting Dave!
Letterman was forced to admit his guilt. Letterman is a leftist pervert.
D'OH!
I'm not sure how that happened.
What's really surprising, is that you were the first to notice it!
Ol' Dave's been doing a little liberal resume enhancement. Can you say "ratings"? One of the talk show guys commented the only loser here is Conan O'Brien. LOL er at least chuckling (COL?).
the more the extortionist stirs the pot, the better the book deal. pleading guilty before this thing is milked (ok, perhaps an unfortunate metaphor) for all it's worth is just leaving money on the table. part of his eventual plea deal will probably involve splitting the royalties with Dave. the harem will get, umm, stiffed, errr, screwed, uh, the short end, again. business is business…
dozens of people working for him and he's still short-staffed…
save some of that compassion for the families of all the people he made fun of over the years who were guilty of far less.
Thanks for posting that. Another fine job of reporting by the MSM- not!
there's gotta be a joke about Dave's longtime stalker in here somewhere. c'mon, somebody help me out.
Actually, no. He didn't get married until this past March, and has said that it all predated then (the proof seems to be for stuff in the mid-90s). So sorry, he may or may not have been cheating on his GF, but that's not philandering.
Feet of clay. head of mush.
I would like to feel compassion for DL but, hey, turnabout is fair play.
[...] Letterman face the [...]
Right, that's what I was saying. I have no idea if he's sorry either, ultimately only he and God know that, and I suspect a good deal of it is being sorry he got caught. I'm no admirer of his, by any means, but I think this would be a good time to show the respect for moral standards that comes with conservatism and take the high road.
You're not paying attention. I'm not defending Letterman here. He is extremely crude and mean-spirited, his politics took over the show to such an extent that I stopped watching regularly a long time ago, and I was glad to see him humbled by the whole Palin incident this summer and would not have been sorry to see him out the door over it. What I am saying is that if we don't want to show him any mercy in all of this, we ought to at least remember that he has loved ones just like the rest of us, and now they're caught up in it. It was his own actions that brought this situation on in the first place, but still, we can't exactly fix the shame he poured out on various people and their families by doing the same to him and his. If we objected to the tactic when he did it to Palin, why should we start employing it? After all, the "Golden Rule" is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," not "Do unto others as they do unto you." That's all I'm saying here.
The "yes we can" "mmmmmm" society in full view.
That's not creepy, that's Tuesday.
Maybe someone will leak the inside story on Davegate. Not that I'm SO interested….I just want DAVE to get even more grief. Payback for the crap, ( that we know about and the stuff CBS and his handlers have concealed), he's slung at people over the years on a regular basis.
Wake up DAVE, you're not THAT funny and certainly not attractive anymore.
what i want to know is where are the womens rights groups how come they aint attacking if it would be rush they would be all over it
I think what saddens me more than anything are the comments from so many of the posters. When has sex become such a casual sport?
because you're an old biddy, no doubt…
"Davegate"? REALLY????? WTF…how about putting everything -gate to F'n rest already, nitwit?
yeah, i got your point the first time. to expand on it, my point is that while i don't think it's particularly fair for his family to bear this- especially his young son, they've been the lavish beneficiaries of the million$ he's made being sh!tty to other people. his longtime girlfriend/wife has lived a life of luxury in large part because of her husband's (hypocritical) propensity to hammer the fallen.
it's not a perfect world and collateral damage is unavoidable. bottom line, the only person who had the power to prevent his family from going thru this in the first place was ol' Dave, himself…
What on earth do you mean…"he handled it right" The guy has publicly humiliated his wife and his child and shown himself to be the hulking slimy hypocritical predatory sex addict he has been all along. WHAT A CREEP And NOBODY cares if he "handled it right" . Except perhaps the light brained idiots who think he is kewel. Ugh!
This is something that keeps being stated as a fact, but I've yet to encounter a business with such a contractual clause. It's sometimes – but not always – the case in the education system, but beyond that?
Sexual harrassment is an entirely different question, of course, but I struggle to believe that Letterman would have gone to the police in the first place if there was any possibity of such an accusation being made. It suggests that he's innocent of any wrongdoing but, of course, some people just want to belieive…
Palin ought to twitter the question…"Did Dave decide to sign the Free Polanski Petition?"
If whatever Letterman did was so "creepy" that HE even called it creepy, it must really be BAD. For the most part I don't really care about this because I haven't watched Letterman in 25 years. I think he's arrogant, smarmy and way too full of himself. So I hope that the women in his life – past, present and future – give him hell.
Well, I for one take enormous pleasure in this revelation, self-revealed though it is. As always, those who should not be casting stones throw the most of them at the most innocent of their victims.
Sarah Palin is an outstanding, intelligent, talented , beautiful and DECENT woman. Carrie PreJean also is beautiful and decent. Where are these so-called 'women's groups' who should be full of outrage at these vicious attacks perpetrated by the likes of Letterman and what's name phoney Hilton. Their closets clank and their wash seems dirtiest yet they are the first to try to viciously tear limb from limb the most decent among us.
.
It is SO like Clinton and Lewinsky. Ms. Lewinsky was taunted, teased and unmercifully attacked as was Linda Tripp…again no women's groups to be seen. Seems as though prominent and powerful men always trump their 'outrage' unless it has someting to do with Aborton or burning a bra.
Well, it does not trump the outrage of decent, hard working people who expect those in power and influence to do what their persona seems to indicate: That they got where they are by hard work and decency. All too often now we find that is a facade that hides very nasty and 'creepy' things indeed
I haven't watched or recorded Dave's show in years, anyway. I remember how funny he was when he started, first at NBC then at CBS. Political satire has it's place. But Dave seems to be descending in his career. What a shame. I wonder what Johnny Carson would think of Dave had Carson lived?
Johnny Carson gave Dave some of his start. And even in retirement Johnny Carson would send Dave some jokes. After Carson died, Dave revealed this. Johnny Carson was always a gracious, class act. Even when poking fun at politics, you'd laugh at the joke and not think badly of Carson. Dave… You're no Johnny Carson.
Letterman should be treated with respect , as all people should . He does NOT deserve it as he has crucified others mercilessly, especially Sarah Palin.
The Law of The Harvest catches up with ALL of us, EVERYTIME. What you put out you get in spades!! God lets us set our own traps and we walk into them!
Courage? Nooo, I think not. The dogs are turning on each other.
I think Sarah Palin has been praying for him in earnest. Todd also. If I were in Todd's shoes, I would have to pray for Letterman so that I could keep my personal sanity.
You cannot fight against the light. I don't care who you are.
Letterman handled it right, but probably with the knowledge that this guy would keep up the extortion at a later date.
Letterman has always reminded me of an impish, insecure 13 year old boy, whose humor fits the age category.
Memo to Dave: "Midwestern Lutheran guilt" is not really a bad thing. If you had more of it, it probably would have kept you from the trouble you're in now.
I noticed that Conan O'Brien was the only talker with a new show on Friday that consciously avoided the Letterman problem. I think this is either due to CoCo's respect for David (considering that Conan took over Letterman's NBC show after he left for CBS and knows that he wouldn't be behind the Tonight Show desk if it weren't for Letterman), or a mandate from NBC that he mentions nothing about the competition (which is why you never saw Leno mention Letterman- though that may because something personal).
Dump this Dope…Letterman = Traitorman
todays NY post has Daves gals photos…so much for not embarassing them
Dont forget Jessie Jackson, or his Hero Bill Clinton.

Well said.
Amen! I know who's side I'd rather be on.
Oh, for crying out loud, robot moderator. I didn't say anything obscene.
Lemme rephrase: I'm not a fan of NOW, but on their website their president has condemned Polanski and Hollywood's defense of him. Since they also condemned Letterman's 'joke' about Mrs. Palin's daughter, I wouldn't be shocked to see them comment on this confession.
