"The joke" is anyone who tries to confer the title of Art to Rap's random mumbling.

Write rap lyrics down on a piece of paper, and you immediately realize you’re looking at small, disjointed, truculent tribal chants from a self-absorbed moron.

Rap is retard noise in psuedo-rhyme.

The substance and scope of this thread bodes ill for us fighting the culture war, let alone winning it. It's very simple people: if you're gonna judge hip hop while calling yourself a republican, then judge it (like any other form of artistic expression) properly; which is to say: on aesthetics alone. This soft minded content analysis is just that. And it's why it took a court order to get J. Joyce's Ulysses published in the U.S.

Perhaps I try too hard, to state my points with such an economy of words.

My remark about Conservatives not being open minded, was in response to the comments on this thread, that claim there is no artistic merit in the entire genre of Rap, and to those who suggested it was responsible for the social breakdown of Black Communities.

My remark about not wanting to hold the argument on these pages, was because I don't want it so public. There are sites like FreeRepublic and TownHall which are better suited for that kind of discussion. I want this site to be a recruitment tool for entertainment industry professionals who might be conservative curious, and I believe that a headline like: "Rap is Crap" is not productive to that end.

Especially when that argument draws the puritans, fascists, racists, and kooks, out of the right-wing woodwork.
