A Health Dirge Night: President Obama’s Lefty Health Club Band
by Rep. Thaddeus G. McCotter (R-MI)Though hailed as one at the time, the Beatles masterpiece Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was not Rock’s first “concept” album. Per John Lennon: “It doesn’t go anywhere… It works, because we said it worked… Every other song could have been on any other album.”
Flash forward to the latest cacophony from “spoken word” Grammy winner President Obama and his Lefty Health Club Band’s radical “concept” album, A Health Dirge Night; examine a few select tracks; and, recognize the reprised promotional chicanery.
The album opens with the derivative 8-track era chestnut, With A Little Help from the Feds. Here, President Obama’s Lefty Health Club Band warbles that a radical bill must pass – now! – because our broken health care system is in crisis. Why? Because they said so. Yet, while concerned with rising costs, the vast majority of Americans believe our health care system is good or excellent, and they are satisfied with their current plans. Why then did Obama’s band try to rush release a radical bill before the public could hear how it impacts their current health care plans?
Next, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Marx, features President Obama’s Lefty Hearts Club Band screeching that health care is a right. Why? Because they said so. However, a cursory review of the U.S. Constitution finds no “right” to someone else’s hard-earned money and talents. Because we are a compassionate country, America provides a social safety net to the less fortunate with the consent of the governed. Thus, the government must not misuse this safety net to snare all Americans into the trap of socialized, government-run health care regardless of their situation and personal choice.
Seamlessly, the album segues into the “Great Society” homage, Lyndon in the Sky on Steroids, wherein President Obama’s Lefty Health Club Band bellow that only a government run health care schemes’ massive intrusion into the free-market can lower costs, increase quality and expand choices. Why? Because they said so. (Stop laughing. They’re serious.) Nonetheless, much of the current crisis stems from government waste, fraud and abuse; and the costs of presently underfunded government health care programs are passed on to the bills of the privately insured. Further, the outstanding liabilities of Medicare and Medicaid already stand in the trillions before Obama care’s nearly half a trillion dollar Medicare cut. Does anyone in the sane center of American politics believe a third government-run health care program will fare better, let alone fix the other two programs? No. By focusing on “cost control” (i.e. rationing), the government will cut the supply of health care while inflating costs by pumping more public money into the system; thus, costs will increase, and quality and choices will decrease by government fiat and design.
Next up, Digging a Hole highlights President Obama’s Lefty Health Club Band crooning that only the radical intrusion of a government-run health care plan can fix our economy. Why? Because they said so. This does not bear statistical scrutiny. Over the years of rising health care costs, America’s economy has still grown. Yes, everyone wants lower health care costs; however, this does not mean that absent government rationing of care the entire American economy will collapse. In fact, we know government-run health care will add trillions in new spending to the federal deficit and debt; compel higher taxes on working families to “pay” for it; increase health care costs; reduce the quality of and choices within the health care system; and harm the American economy.
On the album’s closing medley, Good Moaning, Good Moaning/Getting Bitter/A Bray in the Strife, President Obama’s Lefty Health Club Band barks that all opposition to their radical health care bill is politically manufactured and motivated to preserve the status quo. Why? Because they said so. Still, remembering that the Left ascribes its own sins to opponents, it is actually the White House and Congressional Democrats that support the status quo of big government – unless they deem making it even bigger and more intrusive as “hope” and “change.” It is they who cut the deals with special interests to secure supportive media assaults for their radical health care scheme and, with the complicity of the Democratic National Committee, unleashed their own political astroturfers on elected officials and members of the public opposed to it. Stunned by the spontaneous reaction of grassroots organizations that existed prior to this bill, the administration and its blank check Congress intensified their smear campaign against their opponents, perversely sinking to the gutter tactics of calling them “un-American” and accusing them of waving swastika covered flags. True, these grassroots opponents must more clearly, civilly and diversely make their voices heard; however, they are not the cause of disorder but a symptom. The root of the moment’s madness is President Obama’s Lefty Health Club Band’s forcing their radical “concept” of health care reform on unwilling Americans. Tone deaf to the times and public sentiment, the President is not above the fray. He is directing it to foist a fossilized, 1970’s industrial-welfare state model governance on Americans’ health care, despite our globalized market place that empowers citizens and consumers.
Thus, unlike President Obama’s Lefty Health Club Band radical “concept” of health care reform, the issue is best addressed with prudent, targeted, multi-track reforms that use market forces to empower patients as consumers and increase the supply of health care to meet the rising demand and reduce costs. Such initial, obvious measures include the reforming medical liability laws; expanding Health Savings Accounts; providing tax credits for purchasing private health insurance; allowing Association Health Plans; permitting health insurance purchases across state lines; encouraging individuals to insure against changes in health status; incentivizing preventative health care; applying information technology to enhance transparency and increase efficiencies. All this can be achieved without trillions in new spending and taxes and government dictated, radical changes to Americans’ current health care plans.
For the less fortunate and most vulnerable amongst us, there must be an expansion of Federally Qualified Health Clinics, which will provide patients with preventive and routine treatment; end underserved people’s use of emergency rooms for primary health care treatments. Doctors and other health care professionals can be incentivized to provide their services at these clinics for either immediate or future considerations; and a “Project Navigator” program attached to each FQHC can assist the underserved in accessing the health care system. This approach is community based and will stand a greater chance of over time building true, community-based health care and empowering consumers, rather than continuing in perpetuity as dependents upon a government service. Finally, people suffering from “orphan diseases” – rare afflictions requiring a lifetime of special care – should be compassionately assisted through our nation’s social safety net.
Of course, such ideas are muted beneath the present political circus’ din; however, one true note rings out: on A Health Dirge Night, President Obama’s Lefty Hearts Club Band’s radical “concept” of health care reform “doesn’t go anywhere,” except down the tracks of higher costs, lower quality, fewer choices and lost jobs; its stale redistributionist tenets could fit on any nineteenth century socialist handbill; and, no matter how vehemently they says otherwise, it isn’t needed by and won’t work for Americans.

Great Piece! Thank you, Rep. Mc Cotter!
And encouraging to note that there actually are some representatives in Congress representing their constituents, instead of attempting to ram this odious Obamacare bill, whether we want it or not, up our collective arses like an enema.
"Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves." ~~D.H. Lawrence, Classical American Literature, 1922
Mr, McCotter, you make to much sense, when has this ever gotten in the way of a bad idea from Washington. Great piece.
Mr. McCotter, please run for President in 2012
Very funny premise there, Mr. McCotter. I hope we see more of you on RedEye, but would love to see you on Beck, Hannity, Cavuto, etc. I definately don't want this album, I've heard this tune too many times before during HillaryCare.
Congressman McCotter's essay is a very fun and clever "read". It is great. But more importantly, it is right on the money. Why is it he can say, in very clear terms, what reform should look like—yet the Lefty Hearts Club Band cannot? Lets do a mental Rorschach test. What is the first thing you think of when you think of Obama's health care speeches? Okay, 10 seconds are up. What I think of are all the things it supposedly will not do. "It will not take away your doctor". It will not create "so called death panels". "It will not ration your care".
So what will it do? 10 seconds up. It will ensure another 45 million people (except it won't) and not cost a dime. Gee, how does that work, its just like magic! Or as the Congressman said "because they said so". It strikes me the Lefty Hearts Club Band doth protest too much.
"Please allow me to introduce myself……………………..
RE: Paragraph 8 – This is a great message and a serious step towards an alternative plan. Please get the Conservatives organized and get this message out there! I know the media is stacked against you, but I implore you to keep fighting the good fight.
Great. I loved it!
Great article Rep. Thaddeus G. McCotter! If you notice, everything they want to do should be done immediately because "they say so". Isn't that funny? The Conservatives try to get a word in on this issue and we are called liars and flagged at the White House! This is why the people must stand up and protest this and not give our Government an option to pass this ridiculous "reform". If we do not gain control somehow then I'm afraid we will begin seeing more dangerous bills sweep through Congress. And if we are called every name in the book and if we are slandered all over the TV and newspapers, so be it, we are doing this for America, not the cronies who come after us because they have nothing to report on. So, fight the good fight! God bless you Rep. Thaddeus G. McCotter.

I'd move to Michigan just so I could vote for this guy.
Except then, I'd be living in Michigan…
Sorry, no enema for you.
We're rationing…
While I don't need to hear my thoughts echoed to be sure I'm right in my stances, it is still nice to hear on occasion, especially from someone who is there and can get gloves in the game. Thanks for plugging away against the current. Please know that it's appreciated.
Again Thaddeus, it is refreshing to know that there are a few sane men in the hallowed halls. In 2010, I hope there will be a lot more like you. To have to deal with these knudnuks on a daily basis, must test the deep and dankest part of your soul. Keep up the good fight.
It was thirty years ago today, Saul Alinski taught the man to play. Now he's ramming his agenda in style. Some hoped it would take a while. So may I introduce to you. The hope and change you'll never find. Barack Obama's Lovely Heatlh Care Plan.
and would qualify you for two enemas.
I used to live in Michigan, and proudly voted for this guy—-when I had to move to Ohio, I chose Boehner's district, because I needed someone I could count on.
Thank you for this funny and (not-suprisingly) substanative piece! It's reading pieces like this, when I realize my family and I are so fortunate to be represented in Congress by you! Go Whalers!
Mr. McCotter,
I saw you on Redeye and was thoroughly entertained. I appreciate your ability to point out the absurdity of the left with precision and humor. We need more in office like you. Thanks.
What was the name of the Congressman that was on RedEye the other night that Greg billed as a friend of Thad's? He was pretty funny, also. I liked his goofy take on things.
from newheart @ freerepublic.com:
But I can’t believe he failed to mention the most obvious, “Will you still need me? Will you still feed me? When I’m sixty-four.”
That was Nebraska Congressman Lee Terry.
Agreed
I was floored when he mentioned some obscure Rolling Stones track from Aftermath or Between The Buttons on Red Eye last month – I had no idea anyone in Congress had such a normal background
Nice article! I have often compared the Obama administration to a 60's rock band mentally and now 'So you want a Revolution" is playing in my head! My concern is that President Obama and his Lefty Health Club Band’s radical “concept” album, A Health Dirge Night, will reach the top of the charts without anyone buying a single copy. Why? Because they said so………
Shouldn't Sgt Pepper at least have made Major or Colonel by now?
I mean, if you think about, if you think about it, um, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. Right? The, uh, no they are. I mean, it's the post office that's always having problems.
-Barrack Obama
Then why, Sir, are you trying to create the Post Office of Health Care?
Here's the fact of the day:
2005 data: The Federal Government already Covers 28% of the US Population's Health Care Costs.
The Federal Government accounts for 45% of the spending on Healh Care in the United State.
I say bust 'em down to buck private.
I love Breitbart.tv.

So, the “Me” generation has decided it is just too hard – too COSTLY – to care for the elderly. OUR elderly.
And these "Me" generation d!ldos cry out for "health care reform"…or wait, is it "health insurance reform"? These a$$holes have more lies than Baskin-Robbins has flavors. Their leader, Obama, is a total choad.
Well, what did the the “Me” generation get while it was growing up?
- Everything it wanted. The sexual revolution… destruction of religion… abortion damn-near-on-demand… drugs to make you sexy-happy-hyped-stoned-wasted-mellow-horny-longerpenis-orgasmic-sleepy-wakeup-wiredallday… greed runs on the stock market… credit default swaps… federal sell-outs of formerly rock-solid industries like steel and manufacturing…
…and it was ALL SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT. Either it was the elderlies' fault for not doing enough, or it was their fault for not stopping them, or it was the elderlies' fault for not doing a better job teaching all these "Me" b@$tards morals, self-discipline and CHARACTER.
So, now we're stuck with these Lying Terds. And they are about to drop the DEATH CARE EGG on us all.
My generation sucks.
Thank you for voicing what I've been screaming at the TV and newspapers for years now. Just because America pays the largest percentage of money in health care costs, why is that a crisis? I'm pretty sure Americans buy more cars than anyone other country, does that mean we have an auto crisis? I've heard America spends somewhere like $10 billion a year for pretzels and chips. Does that mean we have a snack crisis?
I'd be very interested in learning exactly what is considered "health care" spending. Does it include liposuction? Boob jobs? Viagra? Tummy tucks? Hair transplants? If some American citizen decides they want to spend their own hard, earned money on hair plugs, why on earth should government be involved at all?
As a former Michigander…just flows off the tongue doesn't it/sarc…I'm very happy that someone with common sense and a great, wry sense of humor is getting some national attention. While it would be hard for me to move back, Michigan is simply an exquisitely beautiful state.
Fantastic! Just Fantastic. Brian, Sgt. Pepper is an NCO so he would be a Sgt. Major…and most likely retired and worried about the VA.
I love the last two paragraphs of the article, beginning with:
"For the less fortunate and most vulnerable amongst us, there must be an expansion of Federally Qualified Health Clinics…"
This author is soo GOODY GOODY with is ideas about reforming the system! Too bad when the Republicons where in power for 8 years (or 6, really) THEY DID NOTHING. N O T H I N G.
They left Health Care Reform to us Dems. And now they complain. This is why you are the Party of No.
Problem is, if you move to Michigan you get the two BO loving senators that the state can't seem to shake. Not to mention the Dem Gov that has taxed everything possible and dug once prosperous MI deeper into this recession, more than any other state.
Mr. McCotter, I only wish there were more of you in Michigan as well as Washington. Thanks for representing me here in Michigan.
I live in Michigan and can't beleive that these crazy people like Granholm get elected again and again, how in the world is it possible. Funny thing is all she has done here is make contact durring a lap dance illegal and tax cigarettes again and again and hides in the shadows afraid to make a descision. Like booting out Detroits best mayor of all time when he was in court all of last year and refused to step down. She is horrible and has done to Michigan for almost eight years what Obama is going to do to this country in less than one!!! God help us!
And i was being sarcastic when I said Detroits best mayor of all time. LOL
And no need to change and wording:
There's one for you, nineteen for me…
M-I-C
See ya dead for dissagreeing with us soon!
K-E-Y
Why? Because we said so!
O-B-A-M-A
I still cant believe that Ms. "I'll blow you away" is still Governor here. Every moment of her administration has sent our state further down the tubes, and thus far she's not had to answer for it. Thank God for term limits.
technically, being a Sgt., Pepper would be enlisted and can only advance rank in the Non Commisioned Officer corp; all on up to Sgt Major, Chief Petty Officer, Chief Master Sgt (depending on which service he was in). Major and Colonel are commissioned officer ranks.
yeah, I know, I'm being anal. Does that qualify me for one of Old Tom's enemas?

Of course climate change is real, but we used to call it Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.

I have seen nothing so far to indicate a caring for the 'average' person.
Rep. McCotter, I agree wholeheartedly as well. We need to see more of YOU and your fellow conservatives in front of the cameras and telling the public about YOUR plans. Call a press conference. Put ads on TV, not just the Web. Try John Stossel over at 20/20. Even try Jake Tapper on ABC. I know for sure John would give you the guys the time of day. Jake just might. Heck, even Charlie Gibson might. His World News program had a very fair and balanced report on the protests recently, even including video of 2 African-Americans that admitted that they were confused by the bill.
Don't let them frighten you in any way. The polls show that the people would more likely be on YOUR side than ever before. Show us that you are listening to us, that you will correct the GOP ways of the previous years, and the people will reward you with our vote and respect you for your representation of us.
Now is the time.

Thank you Congressman McCotter. Hammer meets nail.
I so wish I could have commented to that article!!
She owes me a new keyboard, I spilled my morning coffee all over it, had to find an old one to use.
.So nice to hear sane voices speaking up.
Wish we had a sane president or more of a sane presence in congress
Gore's *carbon buttprint* covers two entire counties in Tennessee, when he heads back to his house it's like a *solar eclipse*…

This author is soo GOODY GOODY with is ideas about reforming the system! Too bad when the Republicons where in power for 8 years (or 6, really) THEY DID NOTHING. N O T H I N G.
They left Health Care Reform to us Dems. And now they complain. This is why you are the Party of No
He does have a point, it was clear years ago that Democrats would attempt to nationalize health care as soon as they came back into power, and that Americans, though satisified with their care personally, were worried about rising costs and what could happen if they lost their jobs. The Republicans could have attempted some free market reforms when they were in power that might have helped the situation. Let's be honest, though, the Democrats would have fought them tooth and nail, and probably would have succeeded in blocking any real changes.
That said, you don't get rid of a fox in the henhouse by opening the door to wolves, and that's just what we have done by giving control of Congress & the Presidency to Democrats. Remember "transparency?" Remember "drain the swamp?" What a joke that's turned out to be.
And they weren't in charge for the last 8 years. The Democrats took control as of 2006, and they did NOTHING, N O T H I N G, too. And there are plenty of alternatives put forward, but the media doesn't report on them. Coburn has one plan, and the two actual, you know, doctors in Congress also have an alternative plan.
My apologies to the dumb Govenor, it was the insipid Senator from Michigan that can "feel global warming when she flies"…I think it's the champagne cocktails she slamming down on her way to D.C.
Why does no one ever make this simple suggestion, which could also be implemented independently from any monolithic "reform" bill: Let's find out how much we're paying for healthcare, now. Does anyone know?
How about a simple accounting change: Employer tax-deduction moved to Individuals. Without a waiver, all health insurance plans are frozen for 24 months. The cost of one's health insurance shows up as a pre-tax deduction on every pay stub (like 401(k), FICA, etc…).
Once we know how much we're paying, now, we might be able to make better decisions about how to change the system.
Which I can only hope becomes real-life and leads to San Francisco disappearing up its own you-know-what.
And our only hope now is that somehow, once we have found a way to put him into orbit, he will block out the sun and thus cool temperatures enough to save us from the specter of melting ice caps.
First of all, that's not true. And second, this Goody Goody author is CONGRESSMAN, who's job is it to think of these things. And third, the Republicans had many ideas (health accounts) but if they didn't involve the government controlling healthcare the Democrats would've never passed them.
Geosynchronous orbit, we'll station his fat, lying azz over the North Pole…
While I agree with 90% of the congressman, like Romney, he gots some explaining to do. What in the name of conservative principles did he vote for the $200M wild mustang porkulus for?
This is why we get undercut every time we shout to be fiscally conservative.

For all you Michigan bashers – what fun is there in moving to a conservative state – it is those of us that stick it out during the tough times that will count most. We are the wintertime soldiers. Thad is fantastic – my rep Pete Hoekstra is good – the rest – not so much. But we are working hard and just perhaps we can turn things around in this once great state.

Excellent piece! This "concept" album will never sell though. Why? Because WE said so!

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration.
At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency, using legal tender issued by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school.
After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to my house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it's valuables thanks to the local police department.
I then log on to the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right.
comes from all that eating through his rear and excreting from his mouth, a.k.a inverted retro ingestion (I think that was the term).

I do live in Rep McCotter's district and DID vote for him! He is awesome and is one of the only politicians from Michigan of whom I am proud! McCotter 2012! I'd campaign for him as President in a heartbeat!
ROFL!!!! It's about control and power…. well, duh! But why do you only give blame to the Dem's? ANY polotician in 'power' is there for the 'control' and 'power'. If you truly believe that the Dems are the only ones who want to control you, then you are the perfect puppet and patsy.
I do have a question for all commentors…. Please reply if you truly believe that it's the Dem's (Dumbs?) that are trying to change the face of America. If you believe that they are only out for control and power. If you truly believe that our freedoms are being eroded out from under us, that we are being lied to, that we are just sheep being led to the slaughter.
Thank you. The 'New' America is the blind being led by the deceptive. For those who believe that your government leaders are out for your best interest, I pity you. They are there for the spotlight and glory. Oh, and the kickbacks. They are not there to serve, but to be in the limelight.
And you want to know the the most humorous thing, they get you fighting a false enemy so you won't look at what they are doing. Now on to the saddest part…. you fall for it every time. Oh, they do pass laws and bills to keep us placated, and all the while, they do whatever they want. Rep and Dems… no difference really, do you want plain vanilla or french vanilla… those are your choices.

Hate to burst your bubble, but my so-called excellent healthcare from one of the Big 3 costs me more than $3,000 before they pay a dime! We do need reform and controls on the insurance carriers so that this doesn't worsen. I am not sure I agree with a public option, but the other things need to be done before we are all broke in our retirement. I hope this isn't just a forum for patting Thad;'s back, because I totally disagree with him. Yes, there are Democrats and Independants in his district that he needs to represent as well.
I was amazed at Rudy Giuliani's comments about the Obama health insurance reform plan. His ONLY concern was that it might put the private insurance companies out of business! What, can't get along with out the BIG Insurance BUCKS? You to, Thadeous?
Get on board and work to create a viable plan. Quit inciting people with false information and actively work to create a viable plan. Bashing one proposal without having solid alternatives is just BS.
Mr. McCotter, congratulations on selling a bunch of babble to your constituents. Do they know about your HAPPY Act? http://ow.ly/qES1 Looney tunes sir, looney tunes.
