Whoopi Goldberg on Communism: ‘On Paper It Makes Perfect Sense’

by Hollywoodland

A good sports reporter will tell you a team may look invincible on paper, but when the game begins anything can happen.

Whoopi Goldberg feels the same way about North Korea’s government.

Goldberg shared her latest profound political thoughts on “The View” earlier today. The all-women panel were pontificating on the sudden death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and the greater geopolitical picture in his absence. That meant the conversation veered toward Communism, and the Oscar-winning Goldberg sounded like she wished she lived in a Communist-run country.

On paper, at least.

‘Whoops!’ – Goldberg Slammed as ‘Merciless, Cruel Woman’ by Former Tenant

by Hollywoodland

One of Whoopi Goldberg’s ex-tenants has a rather nasty “View” of the Oscar-winning actress.

Suzanne Lindsay once lived in a New Jersey home owned by the “Sister Act” star, now best known for her pontificating on ABC’s “The View.” But Lindsay had to leave her home in a hurry when she ran into some financial trouble, and she’s none too happy about how Goldberg handled the matter.

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg has a heart of coal when it comes to collecting the rent–that’s what a former tenant of “The View” host claims after she was evicted from her home of 40 years after falling behind in her property taxes.

“She is a merciless, cruel woman,” Suzanne Lindsay tells Star magazine, via RadarOnline.com, of Goldberg. “I found myself a single mom after having three children. I was working, but I couldn’t keep up because of all the tragedy.”

Is Billy Crystal Oscar’s Savior?

by John Nolte

Will Billy Crystal return as Oscar’s host? That’s the question today.

You know, it’s kind of amazing that as telecast ratings for the the Academy Awards sail over a cliff, the Academy appears to be in complete denial over what the real problem is. For starters, a large number of their recent hosts — Alec Baldwin, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Chris Rock and Jon Stewart — are polarizing and divisive figures who turn off well over half the country. Those of us who don’t live on the coasts don’t like these people, and why should we? They continually insult us, who we are, and what we hold dear. No Bitter Clinger in their right mind wastes a Sunday night with their guts in a knot waiting for a Leftist sucker shot.

Oscar has the same problem with presenters and winners. Every time some mouthy jerk grabs a trophy we sit there on edge waiting, waiting, waiting for it.

If you believe in traditional marriage, love Jesus, adore America, hate terrorists and have finally figured out Obama’s a failed president — watching the Oscars sucks.

Billy Crystal does, however, transcend that problem. Not 100%, but he is a national figure who isn’t polarizing, puts on a great show, and in the talent and class department comes as close to a Bob Hope and Johnny Carson as anyone today. And sadly, he’s about it.

‘View’ Launches Racial Rant Against Michele Bachmann

by John Nolte

—–

With her poll numbers rising and her closing in on the front-runner, it’s time for popular culture to jump in and do their dirty work against Rep. Michele Bachmann. The three boxes are all checked in this segment: racist/stupid/crazy.

Perhaps the most shocking part of this clip is watching Whoopi Goldberg ignore the devastation of the American black family with an oddball defense of single parenthood. The shamelessness of the leftist spin knows no boundaries, but part of the Left’’s tactic is to make it seem as though no one on our side can ever be right … about anything.  And so in furtherance of that, Bachmann’s signing of a document that (among other things) decries the abomination of slavery and the awful unwed birth-rate in the black community, is spun into some kind of negative racial pose on the Congresswoman’s part.

Anatomy of a JournOList Smear: Whoopi Spreads Corrupt MSM’s Anti-Palin Narrative to the Popular Culture

by John Nolte

Earlier this week I ran a piece at Big Journalism that examines how the MSM, in their desperate efforts to undermine and destroy Sarah Palin, are willing to weaponize her own children as political bludgeons against her. The idea is, at all costs, to undermine her seriousness and to create a relentless storm of nonsensical controversies around her that serve the leftist MSM’s partisan desires in three ways. First, by creating a narrative out of the ridiculous, the Governor is never allowed to get her message out. Second, it furthers the goal of turning her into a punchline. Finally, this Palin-Fury the MSM constantly brews up is meant to condition us to wince every time she pops her head out of the ground. Simply put, Palin’s MSM enemies want to exhaust us to the point where we start to wish she’d just go away; and the day after that piece published there was yet another textbook example.

—–

Monday night, at a military fundraiser, Governor Palin laid out what you might call the Palin Doctrine, a five-part plan that defines her vision for American national security. As a potential GOP candidate, any mainstream news outlet that wasn’t corrupt would find this to be a very big deal, but what did we get instead? Alinsky 101:

ABC News:  Palin (Sort of) Praises Obama on Bin Laden

Mediaite: Palin Thanks President On Bin Laden’s Death, But Doesn’t Mention Obama By Name

Los Angeles Time: Sarah Palin credits Bush for Osama bin Laden’s death, omits Obama’s name

These headlines are actually dumber and more misleading than they look when you read (video clip above) what the Governor actually said:

Yesterday was a testament to the military’s dedication in relentlessly hunting down an enemy through many years of war, and we thank our president. We thank President Bush for having made the right calls to set up this victory.

Does Hollywood Think They Can Bully a Guy Who Just Made the President Blink?

by Jeannie DeAngelis

Mrs. Doubtfire, a Taxi Driver, a comedian from Brooklyn, and a guy with “Good Hair” are all criticizing Donald Trump, the guy with bad hair.

While Donald Trump might not be America’s first choice for president, he sure is stirring up controversy.  Let’s face it – if Trump has the chutzpah to wear that hairdo, the guy could care less what anyone thinks of him.

It surprises no one that Hollywood remains the bastion of liberal thought, lifestyle, and politics, and Barack Obama is Hollywood’s golden child. Barack even inspired Scarlett Johansson to utter the words “Yes we can.” As far as we know, even Bill Clinton couldn’t accomplish that feat.

So when The Donald decided to take on The Barry, Hollywood quickly came together to take the spotlight off the Presidential debacle and place it squarely on the guy with the lemon-colored pompadour. On behalf of Barack Obama, Hollywood is – no pun intended – “black balling” the Celebrity Apprentice mogul for daring to question the President’s background.

Hollywood liberals are fine with Obama’s failed presidency – his decimation of the economy, his unending list of broken promises, going to war in Libya, $5 a gallon gasoline and illegals streaming into the mother country called California.  What the Robert DeNiros and Chris Rocks of the world find inexcusable is Trump demanding to see birth and college records.

Frustrated in Defeat, ‘View’ Crew Trashes Trump as ‘Racist’

by John Nolte

—-

Why so angry, Whoopi? Joy?

Let’s back up a little…

I’m no Birther, I simply believe that the White House and MSM teamed up to keep the birth certificate issue alive as a weapon to use against the Right. As an example, nothing made NBC’s David Gregory happier than to ask a conservative about the issue and subsequently nothing made the rest of the corrupt media happier than to amplify that moment and use it to drown out the conservative political message. So instead of the MSM doing their job and educating the public — as they did when McCain’s place of birth was questioned — they chose to palace-guard Obama and join in on the racial smearing. This was all about fundraising, distracting, and dividing. Or, what we call standard operating procedure when it comes to our friends on the Left.

The bottom line is that Donald Trump did the media’s job for them, the President (finally) did the right thing, the MSM has egg on their face, and the moment that birth certificate dropped the Left as a whole knew they lost a powerful political weapon. I vehemently disagreed with the Birthers but at the same time understood the cynical politics behind the White House and MSM’s decision to keep the Birthers ginned up. So today is a major win for our side and we have Trump to thank for it. Long story short…

Will Hollywood’s ‘Artists United to Win Without War’ Unite Over Obama’s War of Choice in Libya?

by Joseph Lindsey

Hollywood loves war, it is their glory. War lines the pockets of Hollywood liberals while giving them a forum to moralize their position at the cost of box office totals. And war is what most Hollywood lefties turn to when they dream of marching the streets with blood made of sugar-water and red-dye number three on their phony hands.

In 2002 a group of Hollywood stars met to discuss ways to protest the war in Iraq. The meeting took place in a private swanky home, only an hour or so after President Bush took to the airwaves to announce the commencement of the military conflict.

The group — called themselves Artists United to Win Without War — with merry huckster members Susan Sarandon, Ethan Hawke and Jessica Lange speaking out from the east coast. The Grand Poobah of this rank and file of brilliant geopolitical-analysts was none other than Rob Reiner. The rest of the troops were made up by Sally Field, Blythe Danner, Christine Lahti and husband Thomas Schlamme (director of The West Wing), MASH star Mike Farrell, Dharma & Greg’s Mimi Kennedy, Bradley Whitford and then wife Jane Kaczmarek, writer/director Audrey Wells, producer Robert Greenwald, actress Fionnula Flanagan, TV stars Lindsay Wagner, Daniel Benzali, Sharon Lawrence, David Clennon and rising star Troy Garity, the son of Jane Fonda and Tom Hayden. (This group has grown to over 140 members.) It was announced at the event that the Barbra Streisand Foundation was donating $5,000 to keep the group going. I assume the donation was for the Russian beluga and Crystal served to these wealthy Democrats by the Venezuelan help on loan from Hugo Chavez.

It is in the very heart of Hollywood, as misguided and self-serving as it is, to march in the streets, to make movies about their positions, and to yell like banshees: “War is not the answer!” The problem with Hollywood celebrities shouting anti-war babble is their inability to ask the question, “Without war, where would Hollywood be?”

The Oscars 2011: Which Cause Will Inspire the Most Obnoxious Political Statements?

by Jeffrey Jena

Well it’s that time of year when all of the rich leftists in Hollywood get out their $40,000 dollar gowns, put on their millions in jewelry, climb into their limos, and head up to the Kodak Theater to pat themselves on the back for being working class heroes. I couldn’t care less about which picture or actor gets a trophy, I just love listening to the political correctness and monumental hubris on display for the world to see.

In the past I have tried to guess the Oscar winners by trying to decide which films best fit into the current liberal Hollywood zeitgeist. My favorite nomination this year is the truly mediocre “The Kid’s are Alright.” It’s about a lesbian couple’s kids who seek their biological father and realize the moms make better dads! If this movie had ended with the one woman admitting she digs guys and leaving her lesbian partner, do you think it would have been nominated?

This year I have decided to add my own category. The category is: Which liberal cause will come up most often during the evening. And the nominees are:

Republicans Destroying Unions:  Starring: The State of Wisconsin, Screenplay by John Trumka and Mitch Stewart.  I predict that at least three people will mention how they stand in solidarity with the government workers in Wisconsin, and around the world. Forget the fact that the Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA, the two largest performer’s unions, don’t allow their “poorer” members access to the union health care plan or pension at any price. Multimillionaire union actors will stand with their brothers and sisters who are being asked to fork over a few bucks for their lavish benefit packages. As we already know, SAG has been drumbeating for the folks protesting in Wisconsin already! I love how my unions spend my money on causes with which I don’t agree, but I’m getting off the subject.

Revolutions are Us: Starring: Countries throughout Africa and the Middle East, Screenplay by Google and The Muslin Brotherhood from an original work by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I’m sure someone will mention how great all the revolutions are in Africa and the Middle East. Forget the fact that the first people who an Islamic government will line up against a wall are Jews, homosexuals and artists.

Whoopi Upset ‘New York Times’ ‘Erased’ Her in Confusing Oscar Article on Race

by John Nolte

—–

In the video above, there’s really no way to tell if Whoopi Goldberg has a point or not. This 2,000+ word piece written by Manohla Daris and A.O. Scott is, to put it simply, a mess. Does this even make any sense?

Real change seemed to have come to movies or at least the Academy, which had given statuettes to a total of seven black actors in the previous 73 years. After Mr. Washington and Ms. Berry, there would be Jamie Foxx and Forest Whitaker (both best actors); Morgan Freeman (best supporting actor); Jennifer Hudson and Mo’Nique (best supporting actresses).  The consolidation of a black presence in the movies and television did not signal the arrival of a postracial Hollywood any more than the election of Barack Obama in 2008 spelled the end of America’s 400-year-old racial drama. But it was possible, over much of the past decade, to believe that a few of the old demons of suspicion and exclusion might finally be laid to rest.

I’m assuming that’s the section Whoopi feels snubbed by, but the wording is so confusing there’s really no way to tell if she should’ve been included there or not.

Anyway, what Daris and Scott are trying to do here is write one of those self-important “what does it all mean” articles about the lack of a Black Oscar nominee this year, and as much as I relish seeing left-wing Hollywood cook in their own PC juices, the article sucks. Once Obama’s brought into the argument, you know there’s no argument … or point. I’ve tried to read the piece three times now and still have no idea what the 2,000 words are trying to say.

One year without a Black Oscar nominee does not a “what does it all mean” article justify.

Hollywood’s Top Asshat Comments, 2010

by Joseph Lindsey

Every year we regular folk are blessed with wisdom from Hollywood’s elite: how to vote, worship, eat, what to drive, raise our kids, who in corporate America is making too much money, and who we should love and who we should hate. All while stars gorge themselves on private jets, third homes, and shaped tofu holiday dinners at 5-star resorts.

While we at Big Hollywood are quick to point out that celebrities can use their soapbox to do some good, but each time they open their mouth to tell us how to behave, they run the risk of losing the magic of their screen persona.  So to help remind you who spoke up on behalf of “all people” this year, here is a rundown of the 10 most asshat celebrity comments of 2010:

———-

10.  When Whoopi Goldberg went on O’Reilly to discuss her reason for walking off The View (i.e. plug her new book Is It Just Me?: Or is it nuts out there?”) rather than defend her position about the world having a “Muslim problem,” the two also touched on the issue of whether a Jewish kid or a Muslim kid is more likely to be bullied in the US because of his religion.  O’Reilly had the facts but like most good, Hollywood liberals, Whoopi just said, “I don’t believe it.”

———-

9. Mel Gibson finds himself on the list for having a long history of racist rants, drunk or not. He gets an extra asshat mention for not checking for a wire when being honest in the face of a Russian. (more…)

Whoopi Goldberg Can’t Handle the Truth

by AWR Hawkins

When Whoopi Goldberg appeared as a guest on Fox News’ Huckabee show on November 21st, except for being a bit more caustic than normal, she was her usual arrogant self. For example, after making it clear that she was unapologetic for storming off the set of The View on October 14th, when Bill O’Reilly dared use the words “terrorists” and Muslims in the sentence, she also added that she’s never said anything “on television about somebody or an issue that [she] wished [she] hadn’t…said.” (I find such positing untenable because Whoopi is known to state one thing as her bona fide position at 5 o’clock, then turn around and state the complete opposite as her position at 6.)

She’s done this with racism, and now she’s doing it with the distinction between fact and opinion.

For instance, when Whoopi told Governor Mike Huckabee she doesn’t regret anything she’s said, she was at least willing to admit she’s said things that were controversial. But she said she stood behind them because they were all representative of her “opinion.”

Goldberg’s defense of her statements, admittedly based on “opinion,” proved ironic at best, considering the FACT that she spent a considerable portion of the Huckabee interview attacking bloggers for “[saying] endless stuff” for which they “don’t have to fact check.” In other words, she attacked bloggers for making statements based on opinion.

Moreover, when Goldberg appeared on Fox News’s O’Reilly on November 23rd, she rejected facts O’Reilly presented to her. From the fact that the Japanese attacked us at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; to the fact that “90 percent of the terrorists” in the world are Muslim to the fact that Jews are still a more persecuted people group than any other, Goldberg sidestepped all by regurgitating the same liberal talking points again and again. She finally dismissed O’Reilly’s points altogether by saying that she and he “disagreed.” (Ironically, in her appearance on Huckabee two days prior to O’Reilly, Goldberg said: “I think fact outweighs assumption. So if you have facts in your hands, then you can talk.” Yet when O’Reilly had facts “in [his] hand,” Goldberg rejected them because they weren’t congruent with her worldview.) (more…)

Whoopi Goldberg: Two Years Ago, White People Were the Terrorists

by Warner Todd Huston

It’s a holiday and some might say we should be charitable to the unfortunate. By unfortunate usually they mean those that don’t have as much as you and I. But one might construe “unfortunate” to mean being gut wrenchingly stupid, too. And when one thinks of the gut wrenchingly stupid one often thinks of the denizens of Hollywood above all others. Still it is awfully hard to be charitable toward such stupidity, I have to admit.

Today I have two members of the gut wrenchingly stupid Hollywood set to report upon. It might have been three but the terminal lunacy of Charlie Sheen just goes without saying.

—–

This week Americans stood ready to wish each other a Happy Thanksgiving, to be sure. Well, everyone was but the  Angelina Jolie, that is. If reports are true, to her this holiday isn’t a day to thank God for our fortunate bounty and to reflect upon the fortuitous founding of this nation, it’s little else but “happy murder the natives day” and she refuses to take part.

Angelina Jolie hates this holiday and wants no part in rewriting history like so many other Americans,” a friend of the actress tells me. “To celebrate what the white settlers did to the native Indians, the domination of one culture over another, just isn’t her style. She definitely doesn’t want to teach her multi-cultural family how to celebrate a story of murder.

I suppose we can be charitable and ignore these kitschy musings based on a woefully incoherent view of American history. Unfortunately, it is just the sort of vapidity that is de rigueur for the empty headed Hollyweird set. As they puff themselves up imagining they care more than you about “the little people,” they indulge a corresponding hatred of our country all too often.

But Jolie’s absurd notion pales in comparison to the outright lunacy of “comedienne” Whoopi Goldberg (real name: Caryn Elaine Johnson). Whoopi thinks that the world does not have a Muslim problem, thinks “white men” are terrorists, and thinks that Muslims in the USA are persecuted more than Jews. Oh, there’s more. Goldberg also thinks that the Japanese didn’t attack Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Those are truly gut wrenchingly stupid notions. (more…)

‘For Colored Girls’ Review: A Melodramatic Mess

by John P. Hanlon

Watching “For Colored Girls” is an ordeal. The film is so jam-packed with tragedies that it’s difficult to catch your breath between them. From a man abusing his girlfriend to a young woman having a back alley abortion, “For Colored Girls” features a lot of heartache and pain, but it doesn’t have any sense of purpose. It sacrifices depth for despair and suffers because of it.

—–

The film tells the stories of a group of struggling black women. Several of the women live in an apartment building which is managed by Gilda (Phylicia Rashad), a motherly figure who looks out for her neighbors. On one side of Gilda’s apartment is an apartment that houses Crystal (Kimberly Elise), who lives with her boyfriend and their two children. Crystal’s boyfriend is a violent veteran who physically abuses her and their kids. On the other side of Gilda’s apartment lives Tangie (Thandie Newton). Tangie’s apartment is visited by male suitors throughout the day and night, to Gilda’s disapproval.

Many of the other characters are connected to these three women. Crystal’s boss Joanna (Janet Jackson) is an angry magazine editor whose marriage is suffering. Juanita (Loretta Devine), whose boyfriend lives in Gilda’s apartment building, runs a clinic for young women and seeks financial support from Joanna. Kelly (Kerry Washington) is a social worker who is investigating the abuse of Crystal’s children. Added to the mix is Alice (Whoopi Goldberg), Tangie’s religious mother who believes that the devil exists in her irresponsible daughter. These are only a few of the many characters featured in this story. (more…)

Entertainers Who Spread Racism Rewarded By NAACP

by Ezra Dulis

When Andrew Breitbart takes on a left-wing news meme, you’ve gotta give him credit:  he comes prepared.  After drawing the ire of the NAACP for challenging their resolution against alleged Tea Party racism, Breitbart’s Big Government set off the blogosphere with video of Shirley Sherrod, a government official speaking at an NAACP-sponsored event, drawing cheers and laughter from her audience while recounting a time when she denied help to a white farmer solely because of his race.  While Ms. Sherrod went on to make a point about looking past racial differences, these questions remain: why did no one speak up?  Why was there only positive feedback from the audience at this point in the story?

40NAACPImageAwards

For which group is there more evidence of members assenting to racist comments:  the Tea Party or the NAACP?

While the national leftist media outlets continue to fall over themselves trying to figure out a spin on the story that sticks, we at Big Hollywood thought we’d double down with some analysis of the NAACP’s treatment of racism in the entertainment industry.

For 41 years, the NAACP has awarded “Image” awards to black entertainers who achieve excellence in the arts.  Despite its rightful role in celebrating the accomplishments of people of color in the arts, the awards show has also been beset by controversy.  Several nominees and winners of awards have engaged in openly racist behavior.  For example, Jamie Foxx, a winner of multiple NAACP Image awards, called Miley Cyrus a “little white bitch” who should “catch chlamydia on a bicycle seat.”  The NAACP has yet to comment on Foxx’s remarks.  Going beyond hatred for one white person, rapper Ice Cube released a song in 1993 titled “Enemy,” with lyrics that state: (more…)

Please Whoopi Goldberg, Change Your Last Name

by Jeff Dunetz

I have a request for Whoopi Goldberg.  I wish that she would go back to using her birth name Caryn Johnson, at least the Johnson part. Because of her adopted last name, some people may think she may be Jewish. To be perfectly honest there is enough anti-Semitism in the world without people ascribing her statements to Jews.

—–

Goldberg’s  Johnson’s latest proclamation that Jewish people wish she kept to herself surrounds Mel Gibson and the taped phone calls Mel made to his girlfriend, where he spewed racial epithets such as “if you get raped by a pack of n***rs it will be your fault.” On this series of recordings, Gibson could also be heard calling Hispanics “wetbacks” and threatening violence against his girlfriend.  Keep in mind that this incident comes during a period where Gibson was making a comeback after being shunned for his rabid anti-Semitism.

Whoopi’s reaction [see the video above] to Gibson’s latest is she does not condone what he did but she knows Mel, he has been over her house and she does not think Mel Gibson is a racist or an anti-Semite. (more…)

Same Whoopi Goldberg Who Condemned Tea Party ‘Racism’ Defends Mel Gibson

by John Nolte

This first video [click on the photo] is from today’s broadcast of “The View” where Whoopi Goldberg explains and defends her defense of Mel Gibson yesterday. Be sure to watch to the very end where she excuses everyone — including herself  — who sometimes lose their temper and racially lash out at others:

—–

Let’s take another look at that quote:

“If you cut me off while I’m driving and I happen to look over, whatever I see, that’s what you are. You’re a white &$%#! or a black (*&%# or a female *^%#@. You are  everything in the book in my book. And I realize given the criteria people are using for racist, then I’m racist. Now if any of you can actually look in the mirror and say that you’ve never done that, then you get the right to cast the first stone.”

This second video below, however, appears to be a completely different Whoopi Goldberg with a completely different set of standards when it comes to forgiving and understanding those who lose their cool and spew racism. Let’s call this Whoopi Whoopi The Stone Caster. (more…)

Today’s Roman Polanski Supporter: Whoopi ‘Rape-Rape’ Goldberg

by Big Hollywood

—–

Since Whoopi Goldberg’s pretending to be all about specifics and facts — and I say pretending because what she’s trying to do is pull off an unconscionable debating ploy that allows her to assume the role of a moral superior even as she defends evil — here are the real specifics and facts, straight from the victim.

Polanski’s Rape-Rape: The Talent Pass and the Morality Paradox

by Gregg Opelka

Why does talent get a pass? And to what extent does the “morality paradox” color our view of great artists?

Roman Polanski’s best films, like all great films, are very moral—in particular Chinatown and The Pianist. They deal with socially repugnant behavior (incest, domestic abuse, prejudice, oppression, war) and the human spirit’s attempt to triumph over ethical transgression and evil-doing. But as a new allegation of sexual assault surfaced against the director last week, the famous filmmaker’s life has been anything but a model of morality.

Whoopi-Goldberg-003

So why do some in the entertainment industry have such a hard time separating the two? Why is it so hard for them to judge the art with the yardstick of criticism and the life with the yardstick of justice? Whence the urge to intermingle the two and excuse the opprobrium of the one because of the merit of the other?

Despite the fact that in 1977 Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful intercourse with a minor (legally equivalent to statutory rape), his apologists typically downplay—or outright forgive—the director’s crime on one of five grounds: (1) the rape occurred over 30 years ago; (2) he’s paid his debt to society; (3) he’s a nice man being persecuted because of his religion and/or celebrity; (4) the victim was somehow complicit; and (5) he’s an accomplished valuable artist.  (more…)

Tale of Two Directors, Part Two: Leftist Hollywood Doesn’t Give a Damn About Human Rights in Iran

by John T. Simpson

In Part One of this two-part series, I described the widely varying treatment of renowned directors Jafar Panahi and Roman Polanski by the leftist Hollywood establishment vis-a-vis their arrests and incarcerations, Polanski for child rape, Panahi for mere dissent. It is merely the latest chapter in a long and sickening history of the Hollywood Left’s willful blindness to and even profiting from the McCarthyite persecution and dire straits of creative film artists in Iran revolting over a stolen election, while child rapist Polanksi gets the Oscar treatment with regard to calls for his release and freedom.

_13742_sean-penn-10-6-2005

But before I get into the stomach-churning details of the Hollywood Left’s shattered moral compass vis-a-vis directors Polanski and Panahi and other Iranian film artists, I would like to take a moment to honor more of the true heroes who have spoken out loudly on Mr. Panahi’s behalf and signed petitions for his release. The National Society of Film Critics. The Boston, L. A. and  Toronto Film Critics Associations. Arin Paul of the New York Times. Filmmaker Ken Loach. Rutger Wolfson, director of the Rotterdam Film Festival. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. Human Rights Watch. French Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterand. Iranhumanrights.org. The list really is long.

Of course, noticeably absent from those petitioning and publicly calling for the release of Mr. Panahi from his unjust tomb-like captivity in Tehran are all of the prominent Hollywood A-List petitioners for Polanski. So Mr. Polanski’s arrest for child rape is worthy of international pressure and outrage, but famed director Jafar Panahi being tossed into a crypt in Tehran on “unspecified charges” is not? Welcome to Lefty Hollywood. And it only gets worse. The most tragic case of Jafar Panahi is yet one more sorry, perplexing and infuriating chapter in leftist Hollywood’s incredible blind side to any human rights violations in Iran, never mind only those perpetrated against Iranian filmmakers today.
