Oprah’s ‘Favorite Thing’ Is Obama in 2012

by Jeannie DeAngelis

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey announced that once again, she is “happy to be of service to Obama in 2012,” which proves that some people just don’t learn, and Oprah is one of those people. It also means that, regardless of the extent of the damage Obama has inflicted on employment, the economy, and the future success of the American people, the same voters affected by the President’s disastrous first term may very likely vote for him again.

All around, Obama’s negative influence is so severe that even gazillionaire Oprah Winfrey has not been immune to the “Obama Effect,” where people who were working in 2008 are either no longer employed or are concerned about what effect his continued presidency may have on job security.

Since Obama won the Democrat presidential nomination in June 2008, the employment rate has soared from 5.8% to as high as 9.8%. The President’s policies are so toxic to the workforce that a 31-year-old Ohio breakfast restaurant he touted as an “indirect beneficiary of the government’s Chrysler bailout” closed after he made a passing mention of the establishment’s success in a speech.  One word from Obama and Chet’s omelet machine began collecting dust. Daily Gut: On Your First Job Out of College

by Greg Gutfeld

So, despite high unemployment, a crappy economy, and double-digit inflation affecting the cost of therapeutic massage, recent college grads aren’t sweating it. Nope, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (losers), 41 percent of job seekers this year turned down employment offers – which is like 41 out of a 100.

Yep, instead of joining the work force, grads are turning their Ipods up, and flip flops homeward, to sponge off mom and dad, because, according to the Times, “the work offered doesn’t match their self-assessed market value.”

Meaning, they’re special, so their jobs must be special. I mean, you can’t have a precious one-of-a-kind snowflake working in the mailroom! Snowflakes can’t open packages! Snowflakes can’t make coffee! Snowflakes are there to be appreciated, as snowflakes!

And so the job becomes another spoke in the wheel of self-fulfillment, something to accentuate the belly button ring and Asian lettered tattoo on your pelvis (which reads “stupid white person”).

You could say this is the ultimate consequence of self-love buoyed by a safety net. It’s not the kid who’s doing this, but the parents who indulge them. Kick ‘em out, they’ll find work. (more…)

Daily Gut: Did Obama Cause Spousal Abuse?

by Greg Gutfeld

So I finally figured out what makes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid so intriguing.

He’s a big stupid-face.

obama_reid

Example: Monday, during a Senate debate over the job creation package, he suggested that unemployment causes men to beat their wives.

“I met with some people while I was home dealing with domestic abuse. It has gotten out of hand,” Reid said. “Why? Men don’t have jobs.”

He adds that “Women don’t have jobs either, but women aren’t abusive, most of the time,” he said. (more…)

SAG Undercuts Employment Opportunities For Actors

by Frank DeMartini

As we all know, the American economy is currently battling double digit unemployment.  The current unemployment rate is 10% and most major economists believe it will go higher.  The Screen Actor’s Guild which has over 100,000 members would love to see an unemployment rate that low.  On any average day, their unemployment rate is probably over 80%.

Of course, you can argue that many members of the Guild should not even be actors and that is why they are unemployed.  You can also argue there is not enough demand for 100,000 actors and a large percentage will always be unemployed.  Both of these are somewhat true.  However, if the Screen Actor’s Guild (‘SAG’) made life easier for the producer and its own members, many more actors would have steadier employment; especially the ones who can actually act.

Screen-Actors-Guild-Strike

SAG has jurisdiction against producers only within the boundaries of the USA.  They are not recognized outside of the United States and hence have no controls.  Many other countries such as the UK, Canada and Australia have their own actor’s unions which are considered sister unions of SAG.  Because of this lack of jurisdiction, SAG cannot force producers to shoot movies outside the USA under its collective bargaining agreement.

However, there is a clause in the SAG agreement that every actor becomes obligated to when he/she becomes a member of the union.  That clause states in substance that “by joining the union, I agree not to work as an actor on a film or television show that does not agree to abide by the SAG collective bargaining agreement.”  This is SAG Rule One and its enforcement overseas is now known as Global Rule One. So Goes California, So Goes the Nation?

by Frank DeMartini

I have been a California resident for the past 23 years.  During that time, I have seen the best of times and worst of times.  Prior to this economic disaster, the only serious recession in those 23 years was in 1991-1992.  At that time, myself and many others in similar situations faced economic turmoil.  However, nothing comes close to what is happening now in what used to be the greatest State in the union.

According to the most recent reports, the unemployment rate in California has reached 12.2%.  The rate in Los Angeles County is at 12.7%.  Some cities within the county such as Compton and Commerce are over 20%.  These are all far worse than the national rate of 9.8%.

What makes these numbers even scarier is that they have not hit rock bottom according to economic estimates at both the state and federal level.  In fact, the State Government estimate of a maximum unemployment rate of 12.8% seems like it is going to be topped shortly, probably by early winter.  Is it possible that California’s unemployment rate will top the number in 1940 of 14.7% which is the highest recorded on record?  (more…)
