Oscars are more often distributed to women in Hollywood who play to the downfall of their species, rather than to its nobility. Or, in the case of Gwyneth Paltrow, winning an Oscar for playing a prepubescent boy in “Shakespeare in Love.” Gwyneth Paltrow has her eye on another Oscar, and she may be onto something. She’s playing a country-western singer with an addiction in the soon to be released, “Country Strong.”

The problem with Paltrow taking on the role of a troubled country-western singer is that she’s vying for an award portraying the very people she has openly expressed contempt. That being hard working people who live in the states she flies over traveling to New York and Los Angeles.

In 2006 Paltrow, talking to a Portuguese newspaper said, “I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner. I like living here because I don’t fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans.”

Elitist snobbery like that knows no bounds when unchecked, so when you’re a Hollywood star it’s easy to follow up your asshat view with a second musing on your country.

In 2009, while in Spain doing a TV show about food for PBS, she told the Spanish press this “(Spain) is so different from the United States. It seemed to have a history, and the buildings are years and years and years old. Here in the United States an old building is about 17 (years old), and over there it’s from 500 B.C., it’s incredible,” said Paltrow. “Also, the way people live over there. They seem to enjoy life a little bit more. They aren’t running around as much as in New York. They enjoy time with the family.”

Gwyneth Paltrow wraps her self in pretty clothes and names he children after fruit, while conveniently forgetting that without all that filthy-capitalist-American-money, she’d be known only as that waify blonde girl who dated Brad Pitt instead of the snotty blonde girl who married a prepubescent Muppet. When Hollywood stars aim to enrich themselves by portraying the very people they hold in contempt, its time movie goers start calling “Bull Shit!”

Ah, Gwyneth. Obviously being fabulously rich and famous just isn’t enough for some people. A few years ago, after making the decision to make her home in London with beta male rocker Chris Martin of Coldplay, she told us how much she prefers living in Britain to her native country:

I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner…I like living here because I don’t fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans.

When she says she doesn’t fit into the “bad side of American psychology,” she means she’s become one of the cultured elite overseas whose life mission seems to be badmouthing those mouthbreathing colonials from across the pond – although she’s happy to accept their money.

But that was back when George W. Bush was in the White House, and it was sooo embarrassing to own up to being American. (Just ask Will Smith.) You’d think that with Mr. HopeyChangey in the White House and the fat paycheck from the very successful “Iron Man” in her bank account (with “Iron Man 2″ on the way for next summer), Gwyneth might think about getting de-fanged.

Sorry. Do not pass “Go,” do not collect $200. Gwynnie’s at it again; this time, talking about her latest home away from home, Spain:

It is so different from the United States. It seemed to have a history, and the buildings are years and years and years old. Here in the United States an old building is about 17 (years old), and over there it’s from 500 B.C., it’s incredible…

Also, the way people live over there. They seem to enjoy life a little bit more…They aren’t running around as much as in New York. They enjoy time with the family. They don’t always have their BlackBerry on.

If New York is Gwyneth’s only basis for comparison, she might want to consider going to a more rural area to see how Americans are capable of “enjoying life a little more.” But that would mean going out of her comfort zone. Finding out how real Americans live? It’s best to see that sort of thing as interpreted by movies like “The Ice Storm” and “American Beauty” where suburbia is depicted as a hell Dante couldn’t have imagined. And rural America? “Deliverance” has that covered.

But I suppose we really shouldn’t blame Gwynnie. She’s lived all her life in a bubble of money and privilege. She didn’t even have to wait tables like so many other actors and actresses before her first break – having an actress for a mother and a director for a father had to have helped some. And perhaps we should cut her some slack considering that when she’s not reciting the lines someone wrote for her, her best attempt at describing Spanish architecture is to say it’s ”years and years old.”

GP says she was “misquoted” the last time. Will she use the same excuse this time? You know, I wish I wasn’t so psyched about seeing “Iron Man 2.” I hate to think of her tarnishing her principles by being seen onscreen by millions of embarrassing, uncouth Americans.

The end of an era in world history is always an occasion to note. The results are in and Spain has replaced France as the top Euroweenie country.

France has long held the title coveted by liberal socialist as the European country that most loves kowtowing to dictators and terrorists. France has been at the top of the heap without a serious challenge since the beginning of World War I. Their long history of puckering up for despots from the Kaiser to Kadafi made them a powerhouse. Their willingness to lay down their culture and country to the recent flood of immigrants from the Middle East made them seem unbeatable.

Many serious Europhiles had even quit following this race as it was assumed the nearest competitors, Sweden and Denmark, would never muster enough chances to show a lack of spine in the face evil. Denmark had even fallen so low as legalizing same sex marriage and marijuana in an effort to attract Marxist and anarchist Euroweenies from around the continent to bolster its roster.

The French had recently become blasé about their position even to the point of banning the hijab in public schools and electing a conservative government. Even with these signs of weakness no serious challenges were seen to be arising.

Then two weeks ago, out of the blue, formerly sixth place Spain finished a shrewd and quietly conceived campaign to topple the long recognized champs. This coup was accomplished in three steps. First, the election in 2004 brought to power a far left wing party who promised to withdraw from Iraq, work for unity with Islamic fundamentalists, and make amends for the Spanish Civil War. The terrorist assured the election of these Spanish Euroweenies when it bombed trains in Madrid and allowed the Spanish to quake in their collective pants all the way to the polls.

Second, after the election of the leftist government the Spanish legislature passed a law which allowed the judiciary in Spain to indict anyone, for anything, anywhere. With this framework in place the Spanish were ready to strike. Judge Baltasar Garzon, long time anti American activist began to indict American officials for “crimes against humanity.” With that final maneuver Spain jumped to number one in the rankings moving France to number two for the first time in over ninety years.

The French have promised to mount a comeback as soon as they are attacked by Germany again or figure out the whole bathing thing.
