Behind the Smears of HBO’s ‘Game Change’

by Hollywoodland

Reprinted with permission from Conservatives For Palin. Written by Stacy Drake.

Many months ago, HBO announced it was planning to make a movie based on the book, “Game Change” by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. After reading John Nolte’s article, which indicated that the movie would be focused primarily around Governor Palin, and it wouldn’t be portraying her in a very positive light, I decided to study up on it. I purchased a copy of the book, read the TWO chapters based on Gov. Palin, and took down some notes.

julianne_moore

As Nicole recently noted, HBO decided to release a trailer to that movie late last year. The actual movie doesn’t air until March 10, or as John Nolte wrote in his follow-up piece:

The one dynamic HBO probably didn’t count on was Palin’s decision not to run for the 2012 nomination. The film’s promotion and the cable news chatter that’s sure to follow seems timed to hit on, before, and around March 6, which is Super Tuesday.

The one line from the notes I took back in March that stood out as I was reviewing them for this piece, was:

Even though this book is supposed to be a story about 2008, it’s really all about 2012.

This movie was orchestrated from start to finish as a way to damage Gov. Palin during an election year by people who are not merely “artists & entertainers.” Just look at the people involved in the making of the movie.

Hollywood’s Mean Girls: When ‘Feminist’ Actresses Attack Female Conservatives

by Arlen Delgado

Isn’t it just grand when self-proclaimed Hollywood feminists gang up on conservative female heavyweights? As entry #5,849,948 in my Profiles of Liberal Hypocrisy we have Ellen Barkin, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep: three award-winning actresses who fancy themselves feminists with a love of strong, powerful women.

Yet, not surprisingly, these three gals conveniently chuck feminism aside in regards to three others gals (Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and Margaret Thatcher, respectively) whose political views differ from their own. Somehow, I must’ve missed the asterisk providing an exception to the feminist cause:  ‘Thou must support thy sisters – unless, of course, said sisters disagree with you politically.”

Barkin v. Bachmann: Barkin’s Twitter feed (which rivals that of Alec Baldwin’s in its unrestrained slamming of the right) repeatedly attacks conservative female figures. During the December 15th GOP debate, her vicious tweets revealed this actress is a feminist in name only. Blasting even Fox News’ gorgeous Megyn Kelly, a superstar network anchor and successful working mom (“This Megyn Kelley has more Botox in her f*ckin face than a 57 year old actress, Just sayin.”), Barkin saved her best sneer for Bachmann: “Don’t u just love when Bachmann says “When I am president…”? That’s like me saying… “When I am performing my next heart transplant….”  Odd, one would think Ms. Barkin, political-views aside, would have more respect for a woman who:  is a sitting member of Congress and presidential candidate, successfully raised 5 children and fostered a whopping 23 children. If Bachmann isn’t a poster girl for strong female women, I don’t know who is.

Trailer Talk: HBO’s ‘Game Change’ Is All About Sarah Palin

by John Nolte

——

Other than focusing the narrative on former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the only other news here is how bad Julianne Moore’s accent is and that the tele-film will broadcast this coming March.

As far as the film itself, I don’t have much to add other than what I wrote last March when the project was first announced:

We’ll see how closely the film sticks to the book, but Governor Palin disputed how “Game Change” portrayed her and being as that it was one of the very few books I had time to read last year, it was easy to see why. Written by Mark Halperin of Time Magazine and MSNBC, and John Heilemann of the New Yorker, the lack of sourcing, the use of so many “anecdotes” based on tales told by ”deep background” types, allowed the authors to craft their reporting in a way that was obviously meant to reaffirm the mainstream media’s biased narrative of the 2008 campaign — especially when it came to destroying Palin and enshrining President Obama. I don’t think Palin’s a perfect person by any stretch of the imagination but I don’t think Barack Obama is perfect either, but after reading “Game Change” — other than an out-sized opinion of himself — you most certainly come to the conclusion that the calm, cool, smart, thoughtful, steady, ready-for-history Barack walks on water.

Are You Ready for ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’ Season Two?

by Hollywoodland

Former Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin won’t be on the presidential ticket come 2012, but the self-described Hockey Mom still understands the power of pop culture in politics.

Palin scored a reality show hit earlier this year with “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” The usual suspects slammed the show, but the ratings were strong and viewers got to see a part of the country they likely never saw before. Palin put her ideological views aside, but the message was received all the same. This is a can-do woman who can back up her image as a frontier woman who can handle a crisis.

Now, Palin is considering a second season of “Alaska,” according to a new interview with show producer and reality show titan ark Burnett.

‘Two and a Half Men’ Star Holland Taylor Slams Palin, Bachmann as Jokes

by Hollywoodland

Veteran actress Holland Taylor is getting political with her new one-woman play “Ann.”

The show, set to begin at The Kennedy Center Dec. 17, captures the larger-than-life late governor of Texas, Ann Richards.

Ann Holland Taylor

Taylor is a dead ringer for Richards post-makeup even though most “Men” viewers don’t immediately think of Taylor as a political pundit. The gig coaxed one reporter to ask the actress what she thought of two other high-profile female politicians on the right, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann:

Leaning forward in her chair, Taylor replied, “I think she would laugh her ass off.” With her hands moving animatedly, she said, “I see Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin and think it is the end of the world if they can actually be taken seriously as presidential candidates. But Ann would just think it was funny. I think she would be pretty sure they wouldn’t get elected so they would just be good amusement value.

Daily Call Sheet: Herzog Trashes ‘Lawrence,’ Sarah Palin Jokes in ‘Chipwrecked,’ and Chatting with Bruce Campbell

by John Nolte

WERNER HERZOG TRASHES ‘LAWRENCE OF ARABIA’

Whuh?

German director Werner Herzog (Aguirre, the Wrath of God; Nosferatu; Cave of Forgotten Dreams) has disparaged Lawrence of Arabia as “not really that good anymore.” Herzog criticized the screenplay by Robert Bolt for depicting the Arab world as “very stupid.” He added: “Lawrence of Arabia doesn’t portray the Arab world in a good way.” … Herzog said that for a forthcoming film he himself is educating himself about the Arab world — “about the region, about Islam, about [the] Bedouin … about the dignity of the Arabian world. This is something which you cannot learn from Lawrence of Arabia. It does not show what is true of today.”

Good grief, the protagonist in “Lawrence of Arabia,” who just so happens to be Lawrence of Arabia, practically becomes an Arab in the film and demands the British treat Arabs as equals. Furthermore, Omar Sharif’s Arab character is portrayed as educated and sophisticated, and over and over again we’re shown the bravery and honor of the various Arab tribes.

Is it David Lean’s fault history recorded the truth about all the tribal squabbles and feuds that doom the third act?

Well, let’s see if Herzog has the sand to “show what is true today”– the good, the terrorism, and the Sharia.

Don’t get me wrong, I very much admire Herzog. But this is just dumb.

Comedian Louis C.K. – Tracy Morgan’s Anti-Gay Rant Should Have Been a Teachable Moment

by Hollywoodland

Louis C.K. will tell you he doesn’t have an anti-gay thought in his head. But the red-headed comic says the culture lost a teachable moment when Tracy Morgan went on an apology tour for his hateful rant against homosexuals.

C.K., currently promoting his self-financed comedy special, told Nightline that he wished MorganGate had gone down much differently than it did.

louis-ck

But C.K. also feels that Morgan’s critics did themselves a disservice by being quick to attack Morgan instead of opening up a dialogue about the subject.

“The opportunity that was lost was for the gay community to ask Tracy, ‘Why did you say that? What was your dad like? What is being a man like to you?’ It could have been the starting point of a conversation that might have actually made a difference in the way people feel about homophobia,” C.K. said.

“But to say, you can’t say that, and that’s hate speech, and to go on a ’sorry’ tour, that’s a waste of time to me. I think it was a wasted opportunity.”

Todd Palin Ready for His Close Up?

by Hollywoodland

The Palins are prepping a new reality television series, but this time it won’t be the Mamma Grizzly in sharp focus.

Instead, Todd Palin will be the main attraction.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Palin and Burnett are pitching another reality series, this one more focused on Palin’s husband Todd and his career as a championship snowmobile racer. But for now, TLC owner Discovery Communications has passed, say sources. And A&E Networks, which entered into a bidding war with Discovery for Sarah Palin’s Alaska, also is not interested.

The show can’t find a network yet, a fact the publication blames in part on the high price tag associated with the show along with Palin’s declining cultural clout.

Orlando Jones Apologizes for ‘Kill Sarah Palin’ Tweet

by John Nolte

It all started here, and now actor Orlando Jones would like to see it end here:

—–

Jones would like to elevate the discussion … now. I’m not sure what happened between now and Tuesday when he refused to apologize and defended the Tweet by stating it was his “job as an artist to up a mirror to society.”

Big Hollywood didn’t make a big deal out of the original tweet. We were simply one of the first outlets to report it as yet another example of the glaring double standard at work among our entertainment class.

Media Won’t Punish Sarandon for ‘Nazi’ Comments, Audiences Will

by Ben Shapiro

Remember when Hank Williams Jr. was a horrible human being because he analogized Obama’s golf game with John Boehner to a golf game between Adolf Hitler and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu?  Of course you do; it resulted in his ‘Monday Night Football’ opener being pulled by ESPN.

That, of course, was their right, although they didn’t use similar discretion when some of their local radio hosts allowed Mike Tyson to fantasize about Sarah Palin being raped.

Where’s the reaction to Susan Sarandon calling the pope a Nazi? Perhaps you didn’t hear about that one, because she’s a Hollywood celebrity rather than a conservative country singer – and because Hollywood celebrities are usually granted full leeway to say idiotic things. In fact, Benedict served in the Hitler Youth unwillingly and was never a Nazi Party member. He deserted before the end of World War II and turned himself over to the Americans.

Now, I disagree with the Pope on a wide variety of issues: he received anti-Semitic priest Rev. Tadeusz Rydzyk in 2007, he made a rather rotten speech at Auschwitz in May 2006, he was slow to respond to a British-born bishop who denied the Holocaust, and his perspective on the Middle East conflict is problematic.

Nonetheless, he has stood tall against terror on many occasions, and he has criticized in strong terms both moral relativism and radical Islam.

So what prompted the Nazi reference by Sarandon?

Part Three: Bringing America Home Again: Law and Order

by Michael Moriarty

That’s my grandfather in the middle … well … my grandfather sure looked like the home base umpire in this American classic by Norman Rockwell.

George Moriarty umpired five world series.

After one particularly contentious game, Big George, as I had learned to call him, “took on” not one, not two but three angry ballplayers after the game was over. He showed up for work the next day a bit bruised and battered.

Two of the “vengeful players,” however, couldn’t even make it to the next game. That’s only one of the stories I was told about my grandfather and how tough he was.

He and Charlie “Boss” Schmidt were the only two Detroit Tigers that the rest of the team wouldn’t mess with. That
category included the great base-stealing intimidator, Ty Cobb. The man that sat visibly in the dugout sharpening his spikes!

Given Cobb’s bullying ways and my grandfather’s sense of right and wrong, Law and Order and our family’s protective instincts for Law and Order have been in the Moriarty family for three generations.

Palin: Hank Williams Jr. Victim of Media Double Standard

by Hollywoodland

Via the Left-wing Politico (we read it so you don’t have to):

“Hank Williams and what he is going through now, I think it’s a very clear illustration of a greater societal problem and that is the hypocrisy on the left — the liberals who can throw these stones at a conservative and they knowing that they’re not going to be held accountable,” Palin said on Sean Hannity’s radio show Thursday. …

“It’s a one way street and we’re always walking on eggshells, aren’t we?” she said. “You know, like, oh gees, if I say that is somebody going to misinterpret it or spin it as something that is quote unquote racist or sexist or anything else? But the other side … they can say whatever they want and nobody calls them out on it. I think it’s pretty disgusting.” …

Want to Know Why Hollywood Conservatives Stay In the Closet? Meet the Bully Who Heckled Bristol Palin

by John Nolte

***UPDATE: Some on Twitter are calling for boycotts of Michael Vartan. To quote a failed president: Let me be clear … I don’t believe in boycotts or guilt by association. My point in bringing up Vartan was to prove Hanks is a Hollywood player in support of my blacklist argument. It’s impossible to work in the world of entertainment and not be associated with a creep in some way. To hold this against Vartan would be extremely unfair and, in my opinion, fighting one blacklist with another.  However…

Hold it against Hanks all you want.

—–

Because too many of us have become desensitized to the vile attacks thrown at the Palin family on an almost daily basis, you have to sometimes imagine these things happening to someone else in order to fully to comprehend just how awful and ugly they are. Imagine it wasn’t 21  year-old Bristol Palin in that bar being heckled by a Hollywood bully, but instead it was one of Barack Obama’s beautiful young daughters being raged against by a tea partier.

“Your mother’s a whore!” “She’s evil!” “Your mother’s the fucking Devil!”

This is unthinkable … and yet it happened.

And the 47 year-old coward who attacked this young mother isn’t some street bum. According to TMZ his name is Stephen Hanks and according to his Twitter feed he runs Stephen Hanks Management in Los Angeles and one of his clients is no less than actor Michael Vartan, who some of you might recognize from the long-running television show “Alias”:

Again, I want to go back to our hypothetical world where Stephen Hanks is a tea partier who screamed “Your mother’s a whore!” at one of Barack Obama’s daughters…

Would Hanks have a career in Hollywood tomorrow? Would the condemnations we’re currently not seeing from anywhere in the industry be pouring in fast and furious? Would Michael Vartan drop him as his manager in disgust or in order to save his own career?

The answer to all of these questions is “of course!”

And who could blame anyone for having that kind of a reaction? I certainly wouldn’t. If anyone in my life attacked one of President Obama’s daughters like that and remained unrepentant it would certainly end our professional relationship and damage our personal one.

But in the real world where this attack was levelled at a Palin all Hanks did was enhance his Hollywood resume. This will likely help his career, which brings me to another point.

Toronto Film Festival Fail: Even Palin-haters Hate Nick Broomfield’s Anti-Palin Doc

by John Nolte

Over the weekend, Nick Broomfield’s anti-Palin doc premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and according to New York Magazine it failed on every conceivable level. There’s an unwritten rule in Hollywood: If you want to succeed and please us, trash Sarah Palin. That Broomfield set out to smear Palin and still failed to win over Toronto says so many bad things about his film one can’t even begin to catalogue them.

Epic fail

NY Mag’s Vulture scores the doc as a Palin versus Broomfield political match and gives the win to the former governor by a crushing seven to one:

Mere months after the release of the Sarah Palin hagio-documentary The Undefeated, British provocateur Nick Broomfield (Kurt & Courtney) arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival with a counter-screed, Sarah Palin: You Betcha! The doc premiered Friday and it looks like it may leave Mama Grizzly–hating liberals sorely unsatisfied: Let’s take a look at Broomfield’s “revelations” and see which, if any, of his punches actually land.

• Broomfield’s drive to Wasilla through the icy Alaskan wilderness is punctuated by a soundtrack so ludicrous — ominous violins, shrill piano notes — that you’d think he was on the hunt for the Abominable Snowman. Once he arrives, Palin’s local fans turn out to be warm and endearing, not a bunch of raging hicks. Point: Palin!

• Broomfield successfully tracks down Mercede Johnston, the candid sister of Palin’s former son-in-law-to-be, Levi. Mercede recounts her brother’s harrowing memories of his traumatic, manipulative appearance onstage with the Palins at the Republican National Convention: “He said it was crazy. And they made him … ” — here comes the bombshell! — ” … shave.” Point: Palin!

And my personal favorite:

Christopher Hitchens: An Atheist’s Gift To Sarah Palin

by Michael Moriarty

Odd how many Americans can agree with Christopher Hitchens on many issues, i.e. his rage at Henry Kissinger. I sympathize totally with such disgust.

The Hitchens contempt for the Tea Party, however, is the grandest dividing line, largely due to the tea Party’s fervent belief in God and its faith in Sarah Palin whom Hitchens repeatedly heaps fear and loathing on.

Hitchens, however, warns the world to not patronize Sarah Palin!

He points out that his favorite film on American Presidential politics is Gore Vidal’s The Best Man.

With an almost bottomless irony of ironies, he further adds that at one time Ronald Reagan was considered for a role but he was dismissed as “insufficiently Presidential”.

Therein lies the substance of his concerns about Sarah Palin and her Presidential Insufficiency.

It also strengthens my faith in the fact that Sarah Palin will, indeed, be America’s next Ronald Reagan and more.

The “more”, I’m certain, is what most terrifies Christopher Hitchens.

His contempt for America and anything classically American is so deep it makes him blind. He traipses out the history of the 19th Century Pledge of Allegiance, smugly noting that the words “under God” didn’t reach the Pledge until the 1950’s. He finds it “funny” that Palin cross-referenced the Pledge of the Allegiance with the Declaration of Independence.

“God” reached the Declaration of Independence in the 18th Century. In that profoundly obvious sense she was totally correct in saying she stands with the Founding Fathers.

A smirking history professor who is also a repeatedly self-described atheist would consider the ultimate truth of her statement irrelevant in the face of her historical liberties.

More the pedant he.

Mama Grizzly Lays Down the Anti-Establishment Gauntlet

by Michael Moriarty

Will Sarah Palin become our next Ronald Reagan and more?

Or will she remain a female Rush Limbaugh?

I don’t think Sarah Palin has any alternative but to run in the 2012 Republican primary.

Her clearly stated analysis of “Crony Capitalism” in Iowa yesterday places her in her own, wonderfully unique territory for a Republican candidate. As the “rogue” image she has always enjoyed, targeting the Fat Cats in the Establishment on both sides of the aisle is exactly what Americans of both political persuasions have been praying for.

Challenging “Too Big To Fail” is exactly what most Americans hope for in a President.

No one, out of all the Republican candidates, has thrown down such a clear and arresting gauntlet as Sarah Palin has!

Mamma Grizzly will put the Fat Cats through a refresher course in traditionally American Economics!!

If she’s President!

As we all well know, traditional rules of the Free Market and American Democracy have been so corrupted that we can no longer recognize the United States from a foul-smelling, lawless, 1940’s and 50’s Las Vegas.

We all know Sarah Palin is not a Keynesian but she’s not a Milton Friedman Libertarian either!

That distinction automatically separates her from not only the Crony Capitalists but from Rick Perry who I do believe is a Libertarian, a la Glenn Beck, although much more cunningly veiled than Beck.

Why?

He’s running on a Republican ticket.

Sarah Palin’s Pre-Presidential Power

by Michael Moriarty

Obama’s to be “pissed-off” and Mayor Bloomberg deliberately “pisses-off” Ronald Reagan’s silent majority by excluding first reponders and clergy from the 9/11 Memorial Ceremony?!

It’s beyond bizarre, it’s miraculously self-destructive on Bloomberg’s part!

Not even NEW YORK will endure such a heartlessly Godless, New World Order attitude for long.

Or will it?

Having lived in that “Progressively Progressive City” for forty years, I’ve seen the Isle of Manhattan fall from its common sense genius to the knee-jerk insanity of ideologues.

Is this an Obama/Bloomberg full court press on the Non-Marxist Majority of America? A deliberately provocative, very Leninist decision that has been lofted over New York in order to “test the waters”?

What is this fraudulently “Independent” Mayor of State Capitalism and the very home of Wall Street thinking?

Have orders finally come down on Bloomberg from the Top Offices of The New World Order?

“It’s time to ‘get tough’ or, as Morgan Freeman demands, get ‘pissed off’ with the infantile sentimentalists of America!!”

Or have they become that nervous as a result of Sarah Palin’s possible entry into the Republican race?

She is making The New World Order Establishment profoundly nervous.

Hysterical actually.

‘Lopez Tonight’ Canceled: Thursday Is Last Show

by Hollywoodland

George Lopez, the left-wing comedian who recently made headlines after threatening to move to Canada should Governor Sarah Palin become president (and once called her a “bitch” on his now-canceled “Lopez Tonight”), is now just another unemployed statistic in his precious Obama’s failed economic “recovery.”

The Wrap:

TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season of Lopez Tonight,” the company said in a statement. “Thursday will be the final episode of the show. We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air.”
