Everything’s not coming up Rosie for the former Queen of Nice.

Rosie O’Donnell’s new OWN talk show is still struggling to find its audience. So the minds at Oprah Winfrey’s nascent network decided to start the new year with a fresh executive producer and set.

Shane Farley, who worked with O’Donnell on her previous Emmy-winning syndicated talker, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, has come on as executive producer … Farley has more than 15 years of experience producing talk shows, most recently Rachael Ray. The Rosie Show kicked off 2012 with a new smaller and brightly-colored set. It fits about 70 audience members, about a fifth of the original set, and is inspired by Rosie’s art studio at her home in New York….

The Rosie Show got off to a decent ratings start with 500,000 viewers tuning in to its its debut. But its audience has shrunk and now averages about 200,000 viewers. The set overhaul follows a series of smaller tweaks over the past couple of months, including the elimination of the mic stand and the Johnny Carson-style curtain for O’Donnell’s monologues, the phasing out of the game show element and the changing of the blue interview chairs. Also enlisted to help boost the show’s fortunes is one of Oprah’s top proteges, Dr. Mehmet Oz, who will be a guest on Jan. 27 and 28.

It wasn’t long ago that Oprah Winfrey and Rosie O’Donnell represented two of the most beloved personalities on TV.

O’Donnell was the reigning Queen of Nice for her sweet as pie talk show, and Winfrey’s power was so vast she could hold up a book on camera and make it an instant best seller.

Then each decided to share their political views with their audiences after years of being mostly apolitical, and their careers haven’t been the same.

Winfrey wholeheartedly backed then-Sen. Barack Obama for the presidency in 2008. O’Donnell, freed from the constraints of her touchy, feely show, ranted her 9/11 truther conspiracies on “The View.”

Now, both are having trouble drawing a crowd on OWN, Winfrey’s much ballyhooed new network. Winfrey’s new talk show garnered only a fraction of the ratings her old talk show drew. And O’Donnell’s “The Rosie Show” isn’t faring any better.

Coincidence?

It may be too soon to tell, but it’s hard to imagine anyone who heard some of O’Donnell’s rants on 9/11 seeing her in a warm, affectionate light once more. And when Winfrey refused to give a platform to Gov. Sarah Palin before the 2008 presidential election, despite Palin’s historic emergence as the first potential female vice president, it showed her subverting her feminist beliefs for her own selfish purposes.

Now, audiences may be showing both stars that they haven’t forgotten those crude political stances.

The Queen of Nice is now the Queen of Low Ratings.

Rosie O’Donnell’s OWN talk show is hardly helping Oprah Winfrey’s new network overcome its ratings woes. “The Rosie Show” quickly dropped 49 percent after its debut in October, and given the network’s overall lousy performance it doesn’t seem to be having a positive impact on the rest of the lineup.

The press appears disinterested in O’Donnell’s fall. Shouldn’t a celebrity with a track record of talk show triumphs – both on her own syndicated program and as part of the successful gab-fest “The View” – be a safe bet for a home like OWN?

Could it have anything to do with O’Donnell’s vitriolic transition from fuzzy talker to 9/11 truther?

Press accounts have focused on Winfrey’s attempts to reboot her fledgling network, and few would count out a media titan like Winfrey at this point. But why isn’t O’Donnell being held accountable? She’s clearly the biggest star on the network not named Oprah, and if O’Donnell started pulling her weight it could have a domino effect on other OWN properties.

Failing shows can always rebound after a slow start. Both “Cheers” and “Seinfeld” didn’t start out as ratings juggernauts. It took time.

But time might not be enough for O’Donnell. Even if the talker keeps her volatile political comments in the green room she may have already done sizable damage to her reputation – and Winfrey’s chances of having her first breakout hit.

Rosie O’Donnell is one of the most toxic, divisive, polarizing, and disliked celebrities on the planet. She’s also too dumb to know fire melts steel. In summation, Rosie’s not a lifesaver, she’s an anvil.

Oprah must really be desperate:

NY Post:

Oprah Winfrey, TV’s greatest hit-maker, is counting on Rosie O’Donnell to save her struggling cable network.

OWN — which launched New Year’s Day to un-Oprah-like ratings — has already burned through more than $150 million in start-up money without producing a single hit show.

“There is pressure,” says Debra Birnbaum, editor-in-chief of TV Guide magazine, “because clearly this is what OWN is putting all of its emphasis on for the new season.

“They have to figure out a way to get eyeballs to that network.”

Can the stand-up comic — who will broadcast from Oprah’s old Chicago studio beginning in early October — do for OWN what, say, “South Park” did for Comedy Central or “Queer Eye”for Bravo? …

As a TV exec who used to work for her says, “Say whatever you want about her, Rosie makes money for people.”

It has been more than a decade since Rosie has been billed as the “Queen of Nice.”

Her controversial year as co-host of “The View” included a nasty public feud with real estate mogul Donald Trump, a spat with Bill O’Reilly over the war in Iraq and an on-air screaming match with one of her own co-hosts.

“She started with such a bang, and everybody loved her,” Birnbaum notes. “What people remember now are some of the angrier moments.”

O’Donnell has said little about her new show — which will air weekdays at 7 p.m. But she has let on that it will be more “View” Rosie than “Nice” Rosie.

I think she means “Shrew” Rosie.

But this is the state of our celebrity culture today. There are so few bona fide talents to choose from anymore that Winfrey has to put most of her chips on a nasty, obnoxious pig who turned herself into a national punchline years ago. It’s also true, however, that OWN doesn’t need 25 million viewers to declare Rosie’s show a hit. In the sliced-and-diced world of cable television, 1.5 million can be good enough.

The saddest part is that the remaining 298.5 million of us won’t be able to escape Rosie. She’ll do something obnoxious and piggish and helpful to the Left, the videos will go viral, and she’ll have an impact because the mainstream media will choose to amplify her to satisfy their own partisan needs. This is what they do with “Saturday Night Live,” Jon Stewart, the low-rated junk on MSNBC, and “The View.”

This will be especially important to the left and the media (but I repeat myself) during the 2012 election. One more shameless celeb savaging our candidate(s) as racist/stupid/crazy sounds mighty good to them.

Ed. Note: Please welcome Mary Chastain to BH and thank her for writing with such insight about one of my all-time favorite undiscovered gems. — J.N.

Ted Demme’s “Beautiful Girls” (1996) is everything we’ve come to expect from a 1990s movie about twenty- somethings preparing for the next stage in life. It’s hip. It sticks with you. It’s quotable. It has a great soundtrack. It’s realistic. It’s………conservative?!

Considering Hollywood is filled with liberals & most of the movies & TV shows celebrate liberal values, it was a shock to realize “Beautiful Girls” emphasizes conservative values such as family, love & relationships, capitalism, and entrepreneurship. Plus it’s feminist without being overly liberal about it.

The plot is simple. A group of guys are getting ready for their 10 year high school reunion. Most of them prefer to stay in love with the ideal perfect woman, which prevents them from growing up & settling down. This speech by Rosie O’Donnell’s character Gina to Tommy & Willie sums it up perfectly:

—–

Family

Mo & Sarah Morris (Noah Emmerich and Anne Bobby) are the happiest of the bunch and the epitome of the traditional family values conservatives hold dear. They were high school sweethearts, married, and have two kids. Mo absolutely cherishes his kids. While alone with the kids he enthusiastically asks them, “Who wants ice cream?!” At the hospital when he hears his children causing a ruckus he just smiles and wears a look that says, “Kids will be kids!” Sarah is his rock. After he gets in a tussle he is shaken, but all Sarah has to do is hold him. She brings him calm and peace. Their family is a blessing.

Willie’s (Timothy Hutton) family reveals the impact a woman’s presence has on a household. His mother passed away a long time ago, made evident by a house that looks like it hasn’t been touched in years. His father is incredibly sad, withdrawn, and lost like he doesn’t know how to operate without his wife & still has her clothes hanging in the closet. Willie’s younger brother Bobby (David Arquette) is missing the nurture a mother brings. You can FEEL the disconnect between all of them. However, when Tracy (Annabeth Gish), Willie’s longtime girlfriend shows up, everything changes. Dad & Bobby smile, laugh, interact, and address Tracy in a manner that borders on reverence. This heart warming display reveals the conservative value of a family needing both a mother and a father. The woman is the heart & soul of any family.

Love & Relationships

Paul (Michael Rapaport) embraces a liberal view of relationships: Spouses & children are a burden!! They bring you down!! They make you unhappy!! He was with Jan for 7 years until she gave him the ultimatum: marry me or get out. He got out. But is he truly happy? Paul is completely in love with an idea: the perfect woman. He named his dog Elle Macpherson & his bedroom is plastered with pictures of supermodels. Paul talks a big game & explains why he has to have supermodels around him all the time.

—–

Nevertheless he can’t stop obsessing over Jan (Martha Plimpton). He even tries to propose to her & this is how she responds:

Jan: Only when faced with losing me do you decide you want to spend the rest of your life with me.
Paul: So, what’s wrong with that? I didn’t like the alternative. I mean that’s how one usually comes to a decision anyway, right?
Jan: Wrong again, Paul – one comes to a decision based on what one wants, not based on what one doesn’t want. Got it?

Paul & Jan are a great example of the popular cliché you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone.

While Paul makes it known that he won’t take up the conservative views on relationships his friend Tommy (Matt Dillon) is tempted. He’s in a steady relationship with Sharon (mira Sorvino), who loves & adores him and will do anything to make him happy. He does love Sharon. He knows he should commit & settle down. Sharon will make him a better man and bring him stability & bliss. But he just can’t let go of the liberal in him. A particular weakness is his ex-girlfriend Darian Smalls (Lauren Holly). They sleep together despite her being married with a child & him in a relationship. Darian keeps him down, he knows it and hates himself for it.

This leads us to examine Darian, the female personification of liberal views on relationships & sex. Darian was the popular girl in high school, used to nice things and getting her way. She lives in a gorgeous house and wears nice clothes. Her interactions with her daughter are sad, as if the girl is a nuisance and burden rather than the true blessing each child should be. Darian fawns over Tommy in the library while her daughter colors at another table, ignored. When the young girl has the NERVE to interrupt her mother to show her a drawing, Darian snaps at her in a very hateful tone. Instead of being grateful and growing up she hangs onto the liberal values of open sexuality and choice over responsibility she holds so dear, even at the risk of destroying her own family. It results in a miserable existence.

Last, but not least, Willie C (Timothy Hutton). The freelance pianist has been with Tracy for 11 months and she isn’t pressuring him to settle down, but he knows she wants to get married & start a family. He’s at a crossroads where he must decide if he should quit his job as a piano player or take a more lucrative and stable sales job. He receives advice from everyone, but only the women and Mo are the voices of reason.

Marty (Natalie Portman) – 13 year old next door neighbor with an old soul. She doesn’t give him specific advice, but their friendship allows him to mature. For their brief time together he’s allowed to be a kid again and take a step back from the pressure of being an adult.

Andera (Uma Thurman) – Stanley’s cousin visiting from Chicago. She’s everything the guys in Knight Ridge want in a woman, but of course she has a boyfriend. Stanley says, “What do you think? A girl like that is born with a boyfriend!” She takes her boyfriend seriously and appreciates the little things he does for her: ice cold martinis, Van Morrison, reading the Sunday newspaper, but most importantly whispers to her at night, “Good night sweet girl.” Willie is jealous a man gets to do these things with her and she wisely points out there is a man who is jealous of him because of everything he gets to do with Tracy.

Mo – He is more blunt. Willie is going on and on about 13 year-old Marty’s potential and Mo keeps pointing out that she’s 13! Willie even makes a remark how he gets to be that old vile guy and Mo says, “Roman Polanski!” In the end Mo says point blank this is about Willie not wanting to grow up. When Willie brings up the sales job Mo immediately steps in & puts a stop to it. He doesn’t beat around the bush and says point blank Willie would be an awful salesman and wouldn’t have time to play piano.

Entrepreneurship & Capitalism

Liberals love money and power as much as anyone. Actually, they love other people’s money. “Beautiful Girls” shows how entrepreneurship & hard work actually pay off. These themes aren’t front & center, but they’re always in the background & noticeable. Stanley “Stink” Womack (Pruitt Taylor Vince) is the best example of this. He bought a local bar and through hard work renovated and expanded it to become family friendly. Stink is very proud to have a full menu, including apps!

Mo’s a successful manager at a textile plant. His hard work has led him to a management position and allows him and his family to live a comfortable life.

Tommy owns a construction company with his friends Paul and Kev. It’s not the most glamorous job, but they’re very successful. The most important thing is that they started it on their own. They built it with their bare hands.

I didn’t spoil anything on purpose because I encourage you to watch “Beautiful Girls.” Don’t rent it. Buy it. It belongs in everyone’s collection.

To understand if a person or group is on the left or the right, look no further than what outrages them. If you’re offended by how much tax revenue is squandered year after year, you’re probably on the right; if you are ticked off at the “rich” for not paying their “fair share,” you lean left. If you have a strong urge to kill or capture evildoers around the world, you’re likely conservative; but if you’re irate that detainees might be water-boarded, safe money is you’re lefty. If you drive home in your Toyota Prius to pop a Big Pharma-produced Lexapro that gives you just enough vitality to take your ungrateful kids to the Starbucks for a Java Chip Frappuccino®… only to lecture them on the evils of the corporations once you get there, there’s a good chance you’re left-wing. But if you love capitalism… you get my point.

What inspires your ire tips your hand–politically speaking–and a sanctimonious editorial on Tracy Morgan in yesterday’s Los Angeles Times tells you all you need to know about the staff of SoCal’s leading paper.

For those of you who dropped out of society for the past week, the synopsis is that during a stand-up comedy routine in Nashville, Morgan, of “SNL” and “30 Rock” fame, joked that he would stab his son if he used a “gay voice.” Word got out and all hell broke loose. The twitterverse was outraged, celebrities clamored to condemn the comment, and Morgan eventually delivered the obligatory pandering over-apology replete with a commitment to partner with America’s most ironically named advocacy organization: GLAAD.

The story is a social justice cliché.

The courageous editors at the Los Angeles Times joined the fray yesterday, unloading a bold op-ed stating Morgan had crossed the line:

But that’s not what Tracy Morgan, the comedian and star of the popular NBC TV comedy “30 Rock,” did during a recent stand-up gig in Nashville, when he unleashed a rant against gays and said that if a son of his ever came home sounding effeminate, he would pull out a knife and stab him.

That wasn’t pushing any new boundaries; if anything, it was a reversion to old ones. In the process, Morgan revealed that he’s capable of frightening (and unfunny) invective, and left his audience wondering whether he is a garden-variety homophobe.

Fair enough. This analysis is lacking in originality, but it’s at least an accurate assessment of a joke even the most homophobic comedian would probably want to take back.

But here’s where the L.A. Times leaves themselves open to criticism. They identified **gasp** a trend in comedians taking a joke too far:

Morgan isn’t the first public figure trying to be funny who crossed a line that seems fuzzy — until the minute you step over it. In a failed attempt to be amusing and irreverent during a news conference at the Cannes Film Festival last month, Danish director Lars von Trier rambled on about how he is a Nazi because of his German background, adding that he sympathized with Hitler “a little bit.” When comic Michael Richards was unnerved by an African American heckler at a comedy club several years ago, he responded with a racial-slur-laced tirade. And Don Imus referred to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team as a group of “nappy-headed hos.”

Uhhh…excuse me…but these are the best examples of “crossing the line” the L.A. Times can muster? An off-his-rocker director with whom practically none of us are familiar (who isn’t even American!), the Michael Richards tirade from nearly five years ago, and the comparatively mild Imus comments from 2007? Wat? The editors of the Times do realize there’s a woman named Sarah Palin and most of Hollywood really, really, REALLY doesn’t like her, right?

Just in case they need their collective memory jogged:

Comedian Chris Titus joked about assassinating Sarah Palin. June 2011.

Tracy Morgan joked about killing a hypothetically gay son; Chris Titus joked about assassinating the real Sarah Palin just last week! But to the L.A. Times, these examples all pale in comparison to Don Imus’s “nappy-headed hos” line from the Bush years.

But wait! There’s more! As a bonus, here’s some name-calling:

Charlie Sheen called Sarah Palin a “whore” in front of a live audience. April 2011.

There’s even more Hollywood Palin hate in the upcoming doc “The Undefeated.”

And what about Dan Savage? The openly-gay podcaster and columnist wrote at Salon.com in 2000 that he infiltrated the Gary Bauer for President campaign and licked doorknobs with the express purpose of infecting the Republican and his staff with the flu. Seriously. At the time of this writing, Savage has a pilot in the can at HBO. (The always charming Savage gave his $.02 on the Morgan kerfluffle, noting “Tracy Morgan can suck my…“)

The mistake Tracy Morgan made (and Richards and Imus) is not unleashing h8red, but doing so at a protected class of people. Had Morgan spewed venom at, say, a mother of five who doesn’t abort her fetuses and thinks “Drill Baby, Drill” isn’t just a line from Anthony Weiner’s facebook conversations, he’d almost certainly have skated the literary lashing form Hollywood’s biggest newspaper.

The Times wraps up the editorial by not-so-subtly suggesting Tina Fey and the “30 Rock” big-wigs might want to consider canning Morgan over the joke:

Morgan’s future on the show is a call for Fey and NBC to make. There are plenty of ways to handle this situation. But when artists slip from funny to hateful, it’s time to stop laughing and call them out on it. We all learn something from doing that.

Chris Titus has a special on Comedy Central next month, Whitney Cummings has TWO pilots debuting this season on network television, Louis C.K. is quickly becoming a household name, Sorkin just won an Oscar, etc. etc. etc. The careers of these h8ers, with the exception of the staff at Wonkette (thanks to new media and readers of this blog), have been augmented since they made over-the-line jokes about conservatives. Yet, the Los Angeles Times felt it appropriate to plant the seed that a “30 Rock” sans Tracy Morgan would be an appropriate result of this dust-up.

Obviously, I’m not here to defend the awful things Tracy Morgan said, but if you are outraged that comedians have carte blanche to savage conservatives but must abide a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to gay jokes, you’re probably right-of-center. On the other hand, if you are aware of the invective that has been hurled toward Sarah Palin and her family in just the last couple of years (Months! Weeks! Days!) and you still can’t get beyond Don Imus and Michael Richards, you might be an editor of the Los Angeles Times.

—–

You have to love freedom of speech, if for no other reason than how it allows us to see who these people really are.

Heckvua choice there, Oprah!

OWN is foolish to gamble millions on a woman who is obviously too full of herself and her own insane ideas — fire can’t melt steel – to sustain any kind of following on daytime talk again. She’s toxic to anyone not living within 4 square miles of downtown Manhattan and Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the people who make most of our pop culture decisions never leave that bubble and are unable to grasp that Rosie is a slow motion train wreck already in progress and a long way from stopping.

OWN would be smarter to go with Charlie Sheen.

In yet one more example among thousands, we see why loud-mouth, extreme left-wing talker Rosie O’Donnell is wholly unworthy of a national forum. In a recent segment of her satellite radio show Rosie Radio, O’Donnell idiotically claimed that gays were being “rounded up” in America so that a “pink triangle” could be slapped on them just like they were during the Holocaust. But just as obscenely, O’Donnell admitted that her marriage to Kelly Carpenter was only a political statement, one of “civil disobedience,” instead of a marriage of love proving that her whole issue of “gay marriage” has nothing at all to do with rights or “love” but is solely one of politics.

On her show, O’Donnell said of her 2004 marriage:

George Bush, in the middle of a war, had an all-station news conference to announce how horrible it was for the safety of America that gay people were getting married in San Francisco, which pissed me off enough to get on a plane and go get married.

Of course, as in most of what this hack says, O’Donnell lied about what George W. Bush said in 2004. As Tim Graham reminds us, Bush did not call any “all-station” press conferences but in truth only issued a statement from the Roosevelt Room of the White House.

O’Donnell also lied about what he said in that statement. Bush said nothing about it being “horrible” for the “safety of America” if gays married. What he said was that, “marriage cannot be severed from its cultural, religious and natural roots without weakening the good influence of society.”

As mentioned, O’Donnell admitted that her marriage was but a political statement which makes the lie to the claim that she just wants to have her love recognized by the state.

But even worse was her absurd likening of the treatment of gays in America today to that of how gays were treated by the Nazis during the Holocaust. O’Donnell claimed that in America gays are being “rounded up” and labeled with a “pink triangle” just like the Nazis did.

But it just was an act of ‘listen If you’re gonna count up everybody who you think is not of value and round ‘em all up and slap a pink triangle on ‘em…

This illiterate, unhinged woman is an outright liar. There is no such oppression of gays in America and to liken the Nazis to today’s America is an outrage that at the very least cheapens the horrors of the Holocaust.

Brian Maloney of Radio Equalizer snagged the sound bite and brought the matter to our attention. If you can stomach it, here is his audio clip:

Transcript

Rosie O’Donnell: … But what happened is that one state, California, Gavin Newsom, decided that, you know, it was unconstitutional to prevent gay people from getting married and so he started marrying people there in the state of California and the City of San Francisco and that’s when Kelly and I flew there and got married. And then they annulled all those marriages and stopped people from getting married.

George Bush, in the middle of a war, had an all-station news conference to announce how horrible it was for the safety of America that gay people were getting married in San Francisco, which pissed me off enough to get on a plane and go get married. And um…

(laughing)

Co-host: You would do that.

O’Donnell: Well, you know, in a way it was like an act of, you know, I don’t know, defiance?

Co-host: Civil disobedience?

O’Donnell: Well to me it was civil disobedience but people said to me that’s the wrong terminology. But it just was an act of ‘listen If you’re gonna count up everybody who you think is not of value and round ‘em all up and slap a pink triangle on ‘em…

Co-host: Purple

O’Donnell: It was pink during the Holocaust.

Co-host: Everyone that I talked to said it was purple, but…

O’Donnell: No, if you’ll just watch Schindler’s List you’ll see it was pink. And um, you know, I just felt like I wanted to be counted amongst the people who, you know, they were saying were unworthy and not allowed to have the same rights as everyone else. So we went and did that.

Like the unhinged Rosie O’Donnell, the waningly influential Michael Moore is almost too easy a target to bother with anymore – and yet he keeps handing us such tempting ammunition. In an interview published the day after Independence Day, which he no doubt spent like the rest of us, celebrating this country and being thankful for our abundance and our freedoms, Moore blathers on predictably in his ongoing campaign against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Correction – his campaign against American victories in Iraq and Afghanistan. If Moore and the anti-war Left were truly anti-war, they would be protesting the real warmongers – Islamic fundamentalists – or at least protesting both sides equally. But they reserve their condemnation for the world’s greatest terrorists. I’m talking about those jack-booted, nuke-happy imperialists America and Israel, of course.

What should we be doing instead of trying to secure lasting victory in those countries? Plucking an estimate out of his sizeable, um, back pocket, Moore says, “$15 billion is what we’ve been spending almost every month on Iraq and Afghanistan. So, one month of the killing machine could give clean water to virtually all the people that don’t have it.”

Yes, if only the American “killing machine” would stop ravaging innocents abroad in order to steal their resources and enslave their peace-loving peoples, we could turn instead to doing some good in the world. For once. Because God knows Americans need to change our greedy, warmongering, rapacious ways and learn us some generosity, compassion and service to others. Then the world will like us again.

Moore pauses in the interview for an aside about the Catholic Church, which he proclaims a “woman-hating institution.” Again, if Moore and the Left are so opposed to “woman-hating institutions,” why do they remain stone silent about sharia law? While Moore is busy chiding the Catholic Church for its shocking oppression of nuns, was there outrage among Hollywood celebrities, Code Pink, NOW and the rest of the Left over the recent sentence of stoning in Iran for a mother accused of adultery? A mother who had already endured 99 lashes in front of her children, years in jail, and who will eventually be buried up to her chest and pulverized with rocks by a raging mob of Catholic fundamentalists? Oops, I meant Muslim fundamentalists?

(Thanks to international condemnation from those who truly care, however, Iran has been forced to relent – not to reconsider the barbaric practice of stoning or the mother’s ultimate fate, but to either hang her instead or simply wait, as they always do, until the eyes of the world are finally averted again. Then they will stone her.)

But Moore really hits his stride in the interview with this stretch of dialogue:

What do you think is going to happen up at the Pearly Gates when they check your citizenship and go, “Oh, you were an American? Ha, well, here’s your list of crimes”?

“Oh, yeah. No, I was against the war! I was against the war!”

“Did you pay your taxes?”

“Well, yeah, you got to pay your taxes.”

“Well, then you helped fund this, didn’t you?”

“Oh, yeah.”

“OK, well, you know, turn around. You’re not coming in the Gates.”

So in the collectivist Heaven of Moore’s imagination (the only kind of Heaven the Left would be willing to inhabit), you won’t be judged based on an individual accounting of your sins and good deeds; instead, St. Peter will turn away all Americans for their war crimes, presumably sending them to Hell instead. I have a question for Michael Moore: if Americans are being kept out of Heaven, who is being let in? Your friend Castro? Chavez? Ahmadinejad? bin Laden?

In the eyes of Moore’s God, it’s not enough simply to be anti-war (again, meaning anti-American). Because you participate in a democracy, because you pay your taxes to a democratically elected government, you are directly responsible for the actions of that government and are equally as guilty as a fellow citizen who supports war.

Revealingly, this is precisely the same position taken by Osama bin Laden and his Islamist brethren: that no American citizen is innocent of crimes against the ummah, the worldwide Muslim community, because they participate in democracy, a man-made system of governance which is in direct conflict with sharia, the law laid down by Allah himself. This is the very rationale used to justify attacks against American civilians everywhere, most notably of course, the 9/11 attacks in New York City.

(You know, New York City – where Dhimmi-of-the-Year-frontrunner Mayor Bloomberg is facilitating the erection of a massive mosque that will serve as a symbol of Islam’s greatest triumph over America to date).

As bin Laden puts it: “Kill[ing] the Americans and their allies – civilians and military – is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it.” Why? Because “Muslim scholars have issued a fatwa against any American who pays taxes to his government. He is our target, because he is helping the American war machine against the Muslim nation.” “We do not differentiate,” he has asserted elsewhere, “between those dressed in military uniforms and civilians; they are all targets in this fatwa.”

It should come as no surprise that the Left and bin Laden are “not such strange bedfellows,” as Andrew C. McCarthy puts it; check out David Horowitz’s The Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left, for example, or more recently, McCarthy’s The Grand Jihad: How Islam and the Left are Sabotaging America. And yet Michael Moore and his ilk take blustery umbrage at such a suggestion. “I love this country,” he sincerely insists. “My films are acts of patriotism.”

Yes, the Left’s version of patriotism. Well, the next time Michael Moore takes offense at accusations of anti-Americanism, remind him that he and Osama bin Laden are united in their condemnation of Americans as war criminals.
