White-a-Palooza: Jon Stewart’s Rally & TV Show Less Diverse than Tea Party?

by Tim Slagle

***UPDATE: Because it might not be the most up-to-date, the photo of the comparison crowd shot has been removed and replaced.

I can think of a lot of rough jobs for a cameraman. Despite being the dream job of every adolescent boy, I imagine that working on an adult film can get quite tedious, (and often disgusting).  Working for C-SPAN has to be difficult, fighting to stay awake during long Congressional procedures. On the other hand, if I had to shoot an episode of the new NBC comedy “Outsourced,” I would envy the cameraman working for C-SPAN, if only for his job security. But I think the roughest camera job of last weekend had to be working behind the lens at the “Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear.”

219-810Stewart-Colbert_Rally_sff_standalone_prod_affiliate_81

I can only imagine some of the screaming that was going on in the wireless earpieces from the directors van: “You idiot, that’s Sarah Palin in a Hitler costume, find something else!” or: “Pull it  in, you’re showing too much green space!” and the inevitable: “Find another black person, we’ve shown her three times already!”

This was probably the roughest order. Finding diversity at the rally, was like looking to for clams in the chowder at a discount seafood buffet: nothing but potatoes, cream, and crackers. I kept wondering when the director would slip backstage, and ask some of the musicians to wander out into the crowd, so they could get a couple shots.

Because the lack of color did not go unnoticed. During the Rally, John Stewart even said, “if you have too many white people at a rally, your cause is racist.” Who was he referring to?  I’ve known many hard-core Stewart fans, and they all point to the monochromatic nature of the the Tea Party as proof of the underlying racism. Stewart himself once referred to the Tea Party as being “Thousands of disgruntled people of non-color taking to the streets.” (Yet polls demonstrate that the tea party is only around 79% white.) …And Now a Word From Victoria Jackson’s Ukelele

by Victoria Jackson

photo 1

I am Victoria’s ukulele and I am in this fight for freedom too.

She takes me to all the rallies and I purposefully sit right in front of the podium so that everyone will notice me. I attended the Beverly Hills Tea Party. All the cameras saw my bumper sticker shouting, “I SUPPORT ARIZONA!!” Can you believe the President of the United States would sue a state?! Man, these are crazy times! All AZ did was ask him to protect them from illegal aliens and criminals. I guess the President doesn’t want to protect them and he is really mad about it. Mad enough to sue.

Suing is a big problem in America. Suing and lawyers. Tort Reform. The President is a lawyer, right? Lawyer sounds like Liar.

You don’t think he has ulterior motives…like, if he kisses butt to millions of illegals and gives them amnesty, they’ll all vote for him? Nah! That’s too nefarious.

Although, I did hear a rumor recently involving that Sherrod lady and “reparations” being paid to black farmers in the south. Many of the “farmers” receiving government money were not even farmers. A lot of things happen below the radar, with our tax money. Things we did not vote for…like abortions. And speaking of nefarious, what’s happening with the offshore oil drilling moratorium? Seems a bit odd how it’s not in the news. And, why would the President want to limit the USA from using its natural resources, while allowing other countries to use them? Um, maybe he wants to make the USA a third world country. But, what do I know? I’m a Ukulele!! (more…)

SAG and AFTRA Join Forces with Communists and Race-Hustlers for the One Nation Working Together Rally

by Jeremy D. Boreing

Scores of people gathered this weekend on the national mall as part of the One Nation Working Together rally, offering, in the words of one of the event’s featured speakers, NAACP President Ben Jealous, “the antidote to the Tea Party,” and promoting liberal answers to issues ranging from job creation to immigration, to education and the environment – namely, more government intervention and higher taxes and regulation.

Actually, the attendance was easily in the tens of thousands, but sometimes it’s fun to take a cue from the MSM and just understate any fact that doesn’t serve your narrative.

socialism 21

Still, despite the impressive numbers, the predominately white rally does differ from Glenn Beck’s recent Restore Honor rally, and the Tea Party movement in general, in one way that illuminates the core difference between left and right.

Specifically, the Tea Party tends to be a movement of individuals, each pursuing their own interests, self-organizing in defense of their own rights, whereas the One Nation Working Together rally was the product of partnerships between over 400 labor, civil-rights, and other liberal organizations, many of whom bussed in their members by the thousands to bolster their numbers.

If there is any better picture of the top-down, coercive nature of liberalism than their approach to “grass roots” organizing, I’m not sure what it is. (more…)

‘Glory’ and Col. Shaw: What a Real ‘Post-Racial’ Man Was All About

by Brad Schaeffer

“It is time for stronger remedies to be applied,” said abolitionist Wendell Phillips of the Union’s effort during the Civil War, “in the form of hot lead and cold steel duly administered by 100,000 black doctors.”  His vision became a reality as over 180,000 African-Americans (free men and escaped slaves) joined the Union Army to fight against the slave-holding Confederacy.

glory

The story of the first such “colored” regiment to be formed, the 54th Massachusetts, is beautifully retold in director Edward Zwick’s 1989 film Glory.  That this film didn’t even garner an Oscar nomination for best picture – in a year where Driving Miss Daisy took the prize – is puzzling to me.  Glory features a first-rate script, wonderful imagery, and a stellar cast led by Matthew Broderick who plays Col. Robert Gould Shaw, the real-life idealistic white officer chosen to lead the regiment. The film is also a feast for the ears as the majestic chorus of the Harlem Boys’ Choir permeates the score. Jon Hamm: Tea Party Has Racist ‘Secret Agenda’

by Hollywoodland

In a Real Time segment that will shock none of you and disappoint many of you, Mad Men star Jon Hamm suggests the Tea Party has a racist “secret agenda.”  Is there something that happens to you when you become a huge star in Hollywood, the type of star that simultaneously has an Emmy-winning television show and the number one film in America, that makes you unable to understand that Americans are often partial to limited government and Constitutional principles without being a part of some racist vast right-wing conspiracy?

You almost have to thank Maher for asking the question.  If he was a conservative, you’d immediately think he set Hamm up to say something stupid.

Will Texas Taxpayers Reward Racist, Anti-American ‘Machete’?

by John Nolte

Do the math. Instead of someone with the last name Rodriguez telling the tale of noble, sympathetic Hispanics victimized by white American southern rednecks  — all of whom are portrayed as murderous racists, what if we had a white filmmaker telling the tale of noble and sympathetic Texas border ranchers victimized by marauding, racist, gold-toothed unwashed Mexicans out to steal their land? Oh, and we would close our story with a stand-up-and-cheer race war where Texas ranchers unite to violently mow down evil Mexicans.

Machete1jpg

The same Left whose standards are so low that opposition to ObamaCare, same-sex marriage, and the Ground Zero Mosque can only be driven by a “phobia” or “ist” — the same PC Left that hides ”silly” old Bugs Bunny cartoons and can’t broadcast a season of “24″ without including a patronizing Don’t Be Racist to Muslims PSA — sees the vicious portrayal of white Texans in “Machete” as nothing more than a silly goof. I guess it’s easy to convince yourself of that when your principles are based on an agenda as opposed to any sense of consistency or intellectual honesty.

The bottom line, however, is that whether Rodriguez likes it or not, this is still the United States of America, which means he has the right to make whatever film he wants and 20th Century-Fox has the same right to distribute it. But does that mean Texas taxpayers should foot part of the bill for a cinematic slandering of both their state and identity? [emphasis mine] (more…)

Rod Serling was Right in 1970: Television Has Little Relevance

by Warner Todd Huston

In 1970 University of Kansas Professor James Gunn interviewed famed “Twilight Zone” creator Rod Serling and what he said about how badly the subject of race was handled on TV in his day is particularly trenchant.

rod-serling-smoking-viceroy

Gunn, a science fiction writer in his own right having won many awards for his work, asked Mr. Serling if he felt that any current television fiction was relevant to the human condition. Rod was discouraged that it was, especially where it concerns the issue of race.

“Most television fiction that I watch has very little relevance. I think it’s one thing to say that we will now have a program called Mod Squad, say, and we will have one black man and one oriental and one Hawaiian to show this marvelous melting-pot concept. But I think, Jim, that’s altogether phony. I don’t think that’s… I think at best condescension and at worst exploitation. The fact is that we have so distorted the pure ethnic minority over the years by making every black man a banjo player, and a village idiot, and a coward, that suddenly we are going to reverse switch, he is now a brain scientist or an atomic scientist or any one of an equal distortion at the other end. Needless to say I’d much prefer the distortion on the good side of the scale… but all television fiction I find quite irrelevant and quite unrelated.”

That was a pretty dismissive view for Rod Serling to think of the medium that made him famous, but on the other hand it’s hard to argue with his logic. For all the ballyhooing about TV it has rarely been relevant to much of anything.

The interview is about 20 minutes long and is quite interesting: (more…)

NAACP Criticizes Non-Existent Tea Party Racism; Silent on Debasement of Women

by Ezra Dulis

As a political music blogger with no political credentials and horrible musical taste, it was a huge deal when I found the very first straw-man Daily Kos rebuttal to an article of mine.  According to the author “jethrock,” I hopped on “the false narrative that reverse racism exists and scary Black people hate you (if you’re white) and are out to get you.”

40NAACPImageAwards

Note the progressive buzzwords:  “reverse racism,” which I never mentioned and is a silly concept (racism is racism, no matter from whom), and “scary Black people,” which I never mentioned either, yet seems to be the default spin thrown at Andrew Breitbart for pointing out racism in the NAACP.  The point of the article was that comments and actions which would have drawn the ire of the NAACP if made by white entertainers (can you imagine the response if Lady Gaga made a video where she wore a pointed hood and rallied a mob with torches and lead pipes?) were ignored when they were made by black entertainers—entertainers lauded at the Image awards.

As some in the comments suggested, however, these entertainers cannot be racist, because racism is not about race but about power; only whites can be racist because only whites have the power to oppress.  Ridiculous as that is, let’s just assume that it’s correct for the sake of argument.  So if it’s not wrong for Ice Cube to refer to white people as his “enemy” and to rap about shooting white people– since as a black man, he cannot oppress a white man—is it wrong for Ice Cube (an Image award recipient) to rap, “Fuck and get up is how I do them stank hoes”?  Regardless of race, the Left cannot deny that men are still in a position to oppress women (just ask about Clarence Thomas), and the NAACP has been woefully silent on the open advocacy of misogyny and sexual violence amongst its Image award nominees and winners. Sunbathing Naked (Day One)

by Victoria Jackson

I’m sunbathing naked in my backyard.  I’m on the lookout for bees.  Yesterday one stung me on my thigh.  Thoughts are swimming in my sun baked head.  One thought keeps popping out amidst the others.

I can’t keep up with him.

There’s a strange, red bump inside my eyelid.
Scarlet is pregnant with my first grandchild.

I can’t keep up with him.

Teenager wants to move back to FL.
Three pimples are on my chin because I ate three potato chips yesterday.

I can’t keep up with him.

There is a bee hive under my roof.
There is a Communist Living in the White House.

I can’t keep up with him.

Every time I try to research his newest Communistic endeavor, he does a new one!  I just can’t keep up!

With lightning speed he and his minions are setting fire to The Constitution, looting and pillaging the Court System, and hanging Abraham Lincoln from a tree!

Every time I pass the TV I do a double take.  Fox News only. (more…)

Entertainers Who Spread Racism Rewarded By NAACP

by Ezra Dulis

When Andrew Breitbart takes on a left-wing news meme, you’ve gotta give him credit:  he comes prepared.  After drawing the ire of the NAACP for challenging their resolution against alleged Tea Party racism, Breitbart’s Big Government set off the blogosphere with video of Shirley Sherrod, a government official speaking at an NAACP-sponsored event, drawing cheers and laughter from her audience while recounting a time when she denied help to a white farmer solely because of his race.  While Ms. Sherrod went on to make a point about looking past racial differences, these questions remain: why did no one speak up?  Why was there only positive feedback from the audience at this point in the story?

40NAACPImageAwards

For which group is there more evidence of members assenting to racist comments:  the Tea Party or the NAACP?

While the national leftist media outlets continue to fall over themselves trying to figure out a spin on the story that sticks, we at Big Hollywood thought we’d double down with some analysis of the NAACP’s treatment of racism in the entertainment industry.

For 41 years, the NAACP has awarded “Image” awards to black entertainers who achieve excellence in the arts.  Despite its rightful role in celebrating the accomplishments of people of color in the arts, the awards show has also been beset by controversy.  Several nominees and winners of awards have engaged in openly racist behavior.  For example, Jamie Foxx, a winner of multiple NAACP Image awards, called Miley Cyrus a “little white bitch” who should “catch chlamydia on a bicycle seat.”  The NAACP has yet to comment on Foxx’s remarks.  Going beyond hatred for one white person, rapper Ice Cube released a song in 1993 titled “Enemy,” with lyrics that state: (more…)

Dallas Tea Party Hits Back at Janeane Garofalo (and MSNBC) … Hard

by John Nolte

In 2008, liberals won everything they have ever wanted and now, just two years on, the terrible consequence of their big government god is glaringly apparent for all to see, from the unemployment lines right down to the Gulf of Mexico and the Arizona border. Out of ideas and fully exposed, all they have left to hold onto power is the threat of labeling their critics — everyday Americans, as racist.

Naturally, under the mistaken assumption that things are as they’ve always been, Leftist Hollywood’s jumped on this racism bandwagon. But things are no longer what they once were, and God bless ‘em, the American people are finally refusing to be racially blackmailed, most especially when it’s a willfully ignorant, unbelievably cruel, joyless celebrity doing the blackmailing:

For decades now, we’ve watched lying, sanctimonious, superior, left-wing celebrities step into the political arena to sling their toxic nonsense without ever having to face an opponent. We’ve also watched lying, sanctimonious, superior, left-wing race baiters win the day with an equally toxic divisiveness and the hollow promise of ”just give in on this one and we’ll stop calling you racist.” (more…)

RACISM: Mel Gibson May Rant But Leftist Hollywood Believes…

by Leigh Scott

Apparently Mel Gibson had another racist meltdown. This time instead of blaming Jews for everything, he dropped an unfortunate “N-bomb” while berating his Russian baby mama. This is sad.

It’s sad because Mel Gibson clearly has some issues. Racism is probably one of the least of his problems. His taste in women and failure to understand the limitations of public life appear to be even more dramatic than his resentment of women, homosexuals, and minorities. He’s an immensely entertaining actor and a truly gifted director. Whenever true talent is stifled by human limitations, the entertainment consuming public loses.

arts_feature-26692

What is truly tragic, not just for Mel, but for all of us, is that the mere utterance of a single word has become the death knell for entire careers. By merely speaking the word n***er (see, I can’t even type it), either in anger or jest, one can find themselves ostracized from society.

Simple laws of supply and demand teach us that the less of something there is in the world, the more valuable it becomes. The same can be said for words. By making something taboo, we give it power. If we really want to rid the world of hurtful and demeaning buzz words, we should use them excessively, but in a different context. We should all adopt the use of the word enjoyed by rappers for decades. If calling somebody a n***er was a signal of trust and affection, future generations would scoff at the true etymology of the term. (more…)

Independence and the Right to Private Property

by Joseph C. Phillips

The right to private property was one of the central issues involved in the American Revolution. The colonists’ cries of “taxation without representation” were but protests of what they saw as an unjust taking of private property.

spiritof76_medium

The Declaration of Independence charges the King of England with engaging in 10 acts of abuse, of which half are offenses against private property. Most significantly, the Declaration lists the pursuit of happiness as one of man’s primary inalienable rights. The founders believed that liberty, happiness, and property were inextricably tied together.

Over the years, the American occupation with private property has not receded. Indeed, the question of private property remains a central part of our national political conversation. The political rhetoric may not always reflect it, but if one scratches the surface of arguments surrounding universal healthcare; entitlements; budgetary deficits; business regulation; cap-and-trade, or even abortion, one will find an argument involving the God-given right to private property. According to His Own Rules, EW’s Owen Gleiberman Might Be ‘Racially Insensitive’

by John Nolte

Over the weekend I finally made peace with the fact that the Left is always right. They must be. They’re so persistent and sure of themselves regardless of the facts or what you and I would call common sense and decency, that there’s really no other explanation.

ew

An excellent example is a recent column written by Owen Gleiberman, a film critic for Entertainment Weekly. In it, Gleiberman lashes out at those of us best described as ”small people” (i.e. not film critics) for having the gall to disagree with an actual critic’s opinion  — in this case, of just how incredibly awesome Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s 11 year-old son and star of the new “Karate Kid”) is.

Starting with this sharply written rejoinder, Excuse me, but what the heck is going on?, Gleiberman goes on to lay out a damning case that explains why racism is the only explanation for those who find young Jaden arrogant and resent the nepotism that made him a movie star. Gleiberman must be right, because his fervent illogical confidence says so. So…  (more…)

RON REAGAN: Well, because [Obama's] a corporatist like all our other Presidents have been for a long, long time. That`s what`s being revealed here. Barack Obama is just as much a corporatist as George H.W. – or George W. Bush was.

SPEECH POLICE: County Commission Stalls Val Kilmer’s Plans to Develop Property Until He ‘Explains Ethnically Insulting Comments’

by Big Hollywood

***UPDATE: Most embarrassing grammatical error in the history of Big Hollywood has been fixed.

First off, though Kilmer claims he was misquoted, what he is accused of saying doesn’t even mention race. Second, in America, even the most vicious and divisive of racists are allowed to develop their own property. Have you seen Al Sharpton’s home?

val_kilmer

L.A. Times:

Aggrieved by a planning board’s decision permitting Kilmer to rent out guesthouses on his 5,300-acre ranch, the neighbors charged that he had denied locals access to fishing holes in the nearby Pecos River and made ethnically insulting comments in magazine interviews.

The San Miguel County Commission responded by tabling Kilmer’s application until he comes forward to explain his comments. It has scheduled a June 23 public meeting for that purpose, which Kilmer is expected to attend.

That, in turn, has drawn fire from the New Mexico chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which has offered to represent Kilmer, saying the commission violated his 1st Amendment rights.

Calls and e-mails to Kilmer were not returned, but he recently told the Albuquerque Journal that he had tried to be a good neighbor, helping local schools and supporting wildlife preservation on his ranch.

RACIAL BLACKMAIL: Maxine Waters Hammers NBC Over Minority Hiring

by John Nolte

There’s something absurdly satisfying about watching leftists attack other leftists using leftist tactics. NBC is just now discovering that their ObamaVision push last year coupled with their obtuse propaganda arm over at NBC News and MSNBC made them the perfect target for a racial demagogue like Rep. Maxine Waters. NBC bending over when it comes to all things PC and Obama probably had them under the mistaken impression that their appeasement would satisfy Leftist Bullies like Waters, when all it really does is invite more bullying.

84750931AW002_CONGRESSIONAL

Comcast and NBC want to merge. This is a very big deal that will require much government blessing and Waters is using the opportunity to her fullest advantage to push what can only be described as a racist agenda that demands individuals at NBC be hired based on the color of their skin.

Paul Bond at the Hollywood Reporter:

“How many of the executive producers for your 2010 fall lineup are minorities?” [Rep. Waters] asked Paula Madison, executive vp of diversity at NBC Uni.

Sorry to interrupt but… “Executive VP of Diversity?” Do you think for a moment that diversity of ideas or political points of view falls under their charge? If you watch any branch or arm of NBC you know the answer. (more…)
