GLAAD’s Latest Scalp: ABC Drops ‘Work It’

by Tim Slagle

ABC has relented to objections from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and cancelled the unbelievably bad comedy “Work It” after only two episodes.

It’s my guess that with the protests from GLAAD gearing up, ABC felt it would be hopeless to try and defend (note to Canada, you can probably take Detroit).

It also bespeaks a certain prejudice inside of GLAAD who has never said a word about Tyler Perry, Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy (who was once known to be quite transvestite-friendly despite his transvestite comedy). Of course, GLAAD has never been terribly courageous about confronting the black community. Political correctness forbids crossing racial lines.

This might reveal a hint as to why GLAAD felt empowered to attack “Work It.” The plot revolved around two men who are forced into women’s clothing just to get a job. Don’t they know that only women are discriminated against in the workplace (and only make three-fourths of a man’s salary)? Perhaps the writers’ ignorance of Women’s Studies 101 made GLAAD think it had been written by conservatives. (more…)

Mark Ruffalo on Occupy Wall Street: ‘We Are the 99%’

by Hollywoodland

Read on as actor Mark Ruffalo expertly twists all the meaning out of words like  “American,” “democracy,” and “equality.”

The Guardian:

I have spent the last two days at the Occupy Wall Street gathering. It was a beautiful display of peaceful action: so much kindness and gentleness in the camp, so much belief in our world and democracy. And so many different kinds of people all looking for a chance at the dream that America had promised them.

When people critique this movement and say spurious things about the protesters’ clothes or their jobs or the general way they look, they are showing how shallow we have become as a nation. They forget that these people have taken time out of their lives to stand up for values that are purely American and in the interest of our democracy. They forget that these people are encamped in an urban park, where they are not allowed to have tents or other normal camping gear. They are living far outside their comfort zone to protect and celebrate liberty, equality and the rule of law.

It is a thing of beauty to see so many people in love with the ideal of democracy, so alive with its promise, so committed to its continuity in the face of crony capitalism and corporate rule. That should be celebrated. It should be respected and admired.

‘Anarchist’ is Shorthand for ‘Welfare-Addicted Crybaby Loser’

by Greg Gutfeld

So students (a.k.a dirtbags) took to the London streets to protest the government’s plans to let colleges raise their tuition. They broke into the Conservative party’s offices, set off flares and started fires – while painting the universal symbol of the jobless, Starbucks hipster (the anarchy sign).

Here’s a rule to remember: someone who still thinks the anarchy symbol is an edgy sign of revolutionary bravado, is also someone who still sponges off mummy and daddy – and yet never pays for a drink. In short, they are babies.

So, yeah – tuition limits are going up to 9,000 pounds – in our money that’s $14,500. Which, as Americans can attest, ain’t much. That’s a used Jetta with 70 thousand miles. Or three hours with Ashley Dupree.

The gov also wants to scrap some subsidies for students, which will definitely cut into their hair gel.

So, how did this happen?

Well, the West is witnessing the continuation of the first real global tantrum – stretching from Greece, to France, to Berkeley, to London. The babies in every country – so used to entitlements – are now being told that the piper must be paid. But because no one taught them the basics of finance – their only reply is “wah, wah,” and “wah.”

Thanks to education fetishists, there’s a belief that there should be no price tag on classes like “Lady Gaga’s Effect on Transgender Truckdrivers,” and that the only limits to your education is your desire to be educated. (more…)

Daily Gut: Protesting the Protesters

by Greg Gutfeld

Speaking truth to power was supposed to be heroic – like yelling at your parents over their lapses in recycling.

But then something funny happened: people started speaking truth to power to people who speak truth to power. And now the man who once inspired, starts to perspire. The king of cool begins to lose his. And the side that normally champions freedom of speech, is asking America to pipe down.

Check out our nation’s high school paper, USA Today, where House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer called the town hall protesters un-American. How odd that in a different context, with different protesters, these disruptions would be seen as brave.

But it’s not brave at all, according to the media. That’s because, for once, the media is not on the protesting side. Instead, the media is the “power” that’s being spoken to – and that confuses them. And so they mock. (more…)

Will ‘The Stoning Of Soraya M.’ Get An Oscar Nod?

by John T. Simpson

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

Returning once again to the land beneath the Big Hollywood sign for a most important poll question. “The Stoning of Soraya M.” has received powerful rave reviews across the political spectrum. The buzz is hot. From the leftie pundits at HuffPo (who only seem to be discovering the true human rights horrorshow nature of that regime now, most curious) to the Righties at Big Hollywood and elsewhere, SORAYA M. is a must-see movie that will linger with you long after you’ve left the theater.

Strangely enough, Amnesty lnternational’s Elise Auerbach doesn’t like it. Because stonings in Iran are so rare, don’t you know. No suspension of disbelief for Ms. Elsie. I’m sorry, what’s her job again? Oh yeah, Iran Specialist for Amnesty International. Go figure. Personally, I happen to think one stoning is one too many. And it wasn’t the only one, not by a country mile! But that’s just me. I’m not an Iran specialist for AI. Like, say, Ms. Auerbach. Nice work if you can get it, huh, Ms. Elsie? (more…)

I, Jerk

by Andrew Breitbart

This week’s Washington Times column:

In this day of polarized politics, it’s incumbent on good citizens to be vigorously truthful. Even in the heat of battle, partisans should own up to their mistakes. Rectifying errors builds credibility. Honest self-criticism ensures a healthy debate and a healthier democracy.

OK, fine. I messed up.

Late last month, my wife, Susie, and I took a day trip to Shutters, an elegant, white-veneered hotel along the ritzy Santa Monica shoreline. It’s a special-occasion place, and we went there to take in a rare parental reprieve.

We went to the hotel’s second-floor veranda overlooking the Pacific and ordered spinach-and-artichoke dip and two margaritas. Except for a mild wind, the day was perfect for checking out seagulls and passers-by on the boardwalk below.

Santa Monica is an upscale part of Los Angeles, and Shutters is a pricey joint. But the nearby pier-cum-amusement-park and its spacious public beach is a multifaceted, people-watching experience. (more…)

Big Hollywood Crew Joins Tea Party Protest

by Andrew Breitbart

I’ve just come back from the Orange County Tea Party where Big Hollywood contributors Gary Graham, Orson Bean and I addressed the crowd.  It was a breathtaking experience with upwards of 2,000 people in attendance who were, much to the media’s disappointment, civil and and well behaved. This was the ultimate middle-class-Costco-shopper protest…not the work of wealthy millionaires like scaredy-cat Nancy Pelosi would like you to think.  There were no scary skeleton costumes, no Subcomandante Marcos banana-republic-revolutionary vibe, just a diverse crowd of everyday Americans, Democrats and Republicans, gathered to push back an arrogant and increasingly oppressive government.

Yet CNN Correspondent Susan Roesgen (a reporter, not a commentator), came into the Chicago rally with a clear agenda to use code words to harass and harangue peaceful protestors:

What a pathetic display. Susan Roesgen is the devil and if she’s not fired for her mean-spirited display, CNN deserves to fall deeper than 4th place in the cable news rating.

The subtext of my speech–which we intend to post here once we have the video–was that the media is the problem because they ignore and marginalize these tea parties and those Americans who have made them such a success, and I can offer no better evidence than that video of Susan Roesgen, which I saw afterward. Boycotts Are Funny

by Cam Cannon

Who else finds protests and boycotts a little, I don’t know, funny?

I remember when I realized that protests and boycotts first began to amuse me. There was a Domino’s Pizza down the street from my house in suburban Atlanta. This must have been about 1985, and some pro-abortion group got wind that the dude who started Domino’s gave money to anti-abortion causes. Well, this stuck in their collective craw, and they went and made them some signs, and proceeded to picket the location near my house.

Then the anti-abortion groups decided they’d counter protest, and they made up some signs of their own, and there everybody was holding up conflicting signs and ranting and raving. Thankfully, nobody got hurt, but more to the point, not one mind was changed as a result of this protest. My daddy, God rest his Georgia-Bulldog loving soul, pointed out the obvious, which is, “Nobody goes to Domino’s to order a pizza.”  (more…)
