History Channel’s ‘America: The Story of Us’ Is a Hit!

by Jeffrey Jena

Last night the premiere episode of the History Channel’s 12 hour, six part series called “America: The Story of Us,” was broadcast. If the rest of the series is anywhere as balanced and well produced as this chapter called “The Rebels,” it is an absolute must for family viewing.

“The Rebels” starts with the landing of John Rolfe at Jamestown and takes the viewer through the Revolution and The Battle of Yorktown. Featuring a mixture of reenactments, CGI and commentary by Americans from politics, media, business and academia the series is compelling and informative. Even the introduction by President Obama was palatable and free from references to himself.

There were several historical facts that took me by surprise and I always thought of myself as a bit of an expert on “Us.” I learned that the first African-Americans came to the future United States as contract workers in Jamestown, not as slaves. I was also unaware of the heroic experiment by George Washington at Valley Forge to inoculate his army against smallpox. (more…)

GLORIA ESTEFAN: ‘Our Gloria’ Betrays Cuban Fans, Jumps On Obama Bandwagon

by Humberto Fontova

“Multi-Millionaire Hispanic pop star holds fundraiser for Democratic Party!”

“OK?  And dog bites man?  So where’s the story here?”

The fundraiser at the $10 million Biscayne Bay island estate of internationally-acclaimed and multiple Grammy-winning pop-star Gloria Estefan featured a $30,400 a couple “cocktail party” that helped raise $2.5 million for the Democratic Party!

dxc__qj1706797

….. “OK,…. and?”

Obama’s hostess at the posh event, Gloria Estefan, is Cuban-American!

…… “OK…and?”

The Fundraiser has raised a ruckus in South Florida of such proportions that even the Associated Press and Reuters are reporting the details!

……….. “Hunnnh?…. But why?  Isn’t such behavior perfectly typical—indeed, almost obligatory—for folks in her line of work?”

OK, a little background might help. Exit polls show that Cuban-Americans voted against Obama by the highest margins—and by far—of any U.S. ethnic group, including “anglos.” We’re going on almost 50 years of their exile but not all the King’s Horses nor all the King’s Men have been able to bring Cuban-Americans around to follow the lead of the majority in their adopted country and register Democratic. Even with the third generation registering to vote, a measly 13 per cent of these incurably obtuse and unenlightened people register with America’s majority political party. This is the most diminutive Democratic registration of any ethnic group in the U.S. And 72% of these obviously incurable reactionaries are registered with America’s minority party (Republican).  This is the highest for any ethnic group in the U.S. (more…)

More Post Racial Hum-bug

by Joseph C. Phillips

I received my census form, dutifully filled it out and mailed it off. In the blank reserved for racial classification I wrote in capital letters, “HUMAN.” It was widely reported that for racial classification President Obama checked the box marked “African-American” as opposed to writing in “mixed race,” which would have been more factually correct, but wouldn’t have played well with black voters (or so he supposed). It is my considered opinion that if the President can make a political statement when filling out his census form I can as well. Obama chose to shore up his street cred; I chose to give voice to the conviction that this country will never move beyond race so long as the federal government continues to be in the business of race.

obama

Yet we remain consumed even if we can no longer actually define what race is. What we lose in our attempts is any sense of ourselves as individuals created with unique gifts to offer an expectant world.

Is race in America a matter of pigmentation? DNA? Given the fact that most of us are “mutts,” how dark or light must one be and which ethnic distinction predominates? Our President is bi-racial and was raised by his white mother and grandmother, yet he describes his race as African-American. His choice seems to suggest that race is a matter of opinion; a man is whatever he believes himself to be. How then does one determine the authentic from the merely delusional? My friend Amy is married to a black man; she has black children and lives in a black neighborhood. She earnestly asks why she is precluded from becoming a member of the sisterhood. And what of all the blond, blue eyed “Native Americans” and their cousins in the black community that “have a little Cherokee on their grandmothers side of the family.” Are their opinions not as valid as our President’s? Are we prepared to give moral credence to the “one drop” rule of days gone by? Have we now determined that absent the idea of racial supremacy the one drop rule is in fact not racist and is civilly acceptable? (more…)

There Will Be Revolution!

by Joseph C. Phillips

I’m not crazy about congressional Democrats right now.

As I write this, Congressional Democrats are engaged in a furious partisan battle to pass their idea of healthcare reform. Alas it is an idea the majority of Americans do not share. It is in fact an idea that the majority of congressmen do not share, which is why President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are twisting arms, bribing, cajoling and threatening all manner of mischief in order to eek out a majority vote – or non vote — on a bill the people have made clear they do not want. They may succeed.

revolution

I am not all that enamored of Congressional Republicans either. It is painful indeed to listen to the feigned outrage of so many Republicans who spent years in office redefining the meaning of concepts like “limited Government,” and “fiscal conservative”. Surely they must realize that their inept stewardship over so many years not only opened the door for the leftist now in power, but also rolled out the red carpet for them.

The contract we strike with government holds that citizens will give up certain of our rights in exchange for government protection of our liberty and property. The foundation of that bargain is trust. And that trust must be guarded jealously. Men must trust that their wishes will be respected and that government will not over step its bounds. When that trust dissipates due to the contraventions of officials within the government, the actions of government lose their legitimacy. (more…)

Daily Gut: Daddy Got Us a Pony!

by Greg Gutfeld

So what did we learn this weekend? That the health care reform bill is such a big idea that it doesn’t matter what’s in it. It’s such a big idea, in fact, that that’s all those dopes voted for – the idea. Because they really don’t know what’s in the bill anyway. They couldn’t have – it’s 2,700 pages. This was, essentially, a “yes” vote on Shangri-la.

obama_pony_jpg

The argument was never about health care. It was about whether America can survive when strapped with another massive entitlement program, one in which we’ve been deceived about cost. Essentially Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama (Obamalosi, for short) looked at our crumbling economy, weighed down by three massive entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid), and thought: let’s have a fourth. Let’s go all in on unfunded entitlements.

The worst part? The lies. Seriously: How can anyone say this is going to save money?

I wanna show you a graph from Nick Gillespie’s great piece at Reason.com. (more…)

Obama’s Emboldened: Our Fight Has Just Begun

by Jon Voight

This past weekend I was proud to be part of “we the people” who came down to Washington by the thousands to voice their American rights and freedom to say “no” to what we all knew would change our great America into a socialistic America.  With this Obama health care, we will now face extreme hardships in every way and Obama is now more dangerous than ever.

obama-angry-2

His ego has been fanned and he will stop at nothing to try to pass the cap-and-trade bill and he will force all union members to openly sign their votes.  We must never forget this blatant and dangerous arrogance by President Obama and Speaker Pelosi and every Democrat leader that voted for this destruction of our great country.

Let us put memos everywhere to remind ourselves to vote all of these socialistic extremists out of office this coming November and thereafter. (more…)

Burnt Offering: Lion In Winter

by Robert Davi

So here I am sipping a coffee, it’s 9:30 pm and health care has passed the House. I’ve  listened to President’s Obama’s speech on Fox News and I reflect. What I now have to say many may not agree with, and it will probably piss a lot of you off. But I have never been known not to speak my mind. So here goes…

Leader_In_Search

Go back to the election just over a year ago when I would discuss with some who I encountered who they were voting for and where they stood politically. Not people in show biz but just average folk from cab and limo drivers in different parts of the country, to shopkeepers, waiters, landscapers, and airline hostesses. Across the board, all had their own reason for voting for Obama but one in particular struck me.

He was a driver for a car service that had picked me up. His name was Oscar and he was from South America. I opened the conversation and he was very open, as was I — neither being shy about our point of view — he didn’t care if I tipped or not because I didn’t agree with him, and I didn’t worry about being left in the desert somewhere for disagreeing with him. Daily Gut: The Spurning of Chris Matthews

by Greg Gutfeld

So yesterday on the Cartoon Network, Chris Matthews did a segment on Bret Baier’s interview with President Obama.

Matthews, still suffering from Obama-erotica Syndrome, was astounded by Bret’s treatment of his Precious Prince. To make sure he got his point across, he had a pair of chuckling chuckleheads on standby, in the form of Joan Walsh and Cynthia Tucker. Gosh, they’re adorbs!

Check it out, check it outers:

—–

“Buccaneer buddy?” What the hell is that? Is that like a gay pirate or something?

Look, the real star of that clip wasn’t those three bozos, but the editor who left out all of the Dear One’s filibustering. The editor just clipped the ends of Obama’s statements when Brett tried to get the Great One back on track. It’s sneaky. But so what. I suppose I could go through Chris Matthew’s illustrious career, and find examples of his self-righteous screeching at guests – something Baier never does. But there are just way too many examples, and it’s nice outside. (more…)

Saving the Soul of the Religious Left

by Joseph C. Phillips

A reader recently sent me an email admonishing me for not being more supportive of President Obama. For reasons that were not immediately clear, he also raised the issue of my confessed Christianity. The “aha” moment came when he asked, “Do you pray for your leader like you’re instructed in the good book?” I responded that while I have prayed for the president, I do not do so regularly. That, in his mind, was evidence of my Christian hypocrisy.

becoming_christian_citizen

This is an elementary school argument, but sadly one that is far too commonly made by the religious left and their secular allies. All Christian stumbling is demonstration of falsity; individual failure to practice principles is ipso facto proof of the bankruptcy of those principles. Sophistry of this sort allows the new left to dismiss ideas they disagree with and evidence they find inconvenient with a simple label: “religious right-wing extremist.” That sure beats actually having to make a substantive argument. What remains unclear is why the regular and unabashed support the religious left offers candidates whose policies are incompatible with or in direct contradiction to Christian principles is not more damning evidence of their Christian hypocrisy. No Nukes! Unless Obama Wants Nukes…

by Jeffrey Jena

[Ed. Note: Since this article was written but before it was published, actor Alec Baldwin has come out against nuclear power at the Huffpo, though the name "Obama" is noticably never used.]

I don’t want to start a new conspiracy theory but a small and dedicated group of Americans has gone missing. Vanished without a trace! Where are the American anti-nuclear people? What has happened to the “No Nukes” crowd? Since President Obama announced his support for new nuclear power plants in his State of the Union Address I have been patiently waiting for the leftist/environmental/green/anti-nuclear power movement to resurface.

nonukesmovie

Here we are a full month after Mr. Obama has pledged billions to utilities like Southern Company to kick start a “new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants in this country” and as of yet not a peep from them. No rally at the Capital, no rock concert extravaganza, not even some of those cool death mask costumes worn by a guy on stilts. At least I think he was on stilts. Maybe his growth hormones were horribly affected by his growing up near Three Mile Island! It makes me think something awful has happened to this band of aging hippies!

Back in 1979 there were over 200,000 demonstrators at an anti-nuclear power rally in New York City. That was followed by a five day series of concerts at Madison Square Garden and a multi-million selling album featuring James Taylor, Jackson Brown, Tom Petty and Bonnie Raitt. If our younger readers are unsure of whom these folks are, ask your parents or grandparents they’ll fill you in. They will also be able to tell you what an “album” was. They were difficult to “illegally download” because you had to “upload” them under your sweatshirt in the aisle of the “record” store. Of course that was back when stealing music was still frowned upon. (more…)
