Left-wing operatives, like those who run Politico, are intentionally attempting to create their own reality. In the same way the left turned “30 Rock,” a show that ranked 106 in the ratings last season, into some sort of cultural phenom, the idea here is to push the political and social values of something no one watches into our country’s cultural and media narrative as though it’s something it’s not — popular.

Politico loves Stephen Colbert because Stephen Colbert loves Barack Obama and is waging war against the Right and free speech. America, however, is, to be kind, indifferent to Colbert. 1.44 million viewers and only half that among the 18-49 group, does not make you King of anything.

But Colbert knows how to play the game and understands that if he wants these kinds of hollow accolades and the opportunity to push his left-wing agenda and to have history revised in his favor, he must appeal to the right people, and the right people are not THE people; the right people are the left-wing elites who infest our corrupt media.

In the face of ratings dwarfed by Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, with ratings lower than those of most every primetime show on Fox News; lower than those of “Pawn Stars,” “WWE Wrestling,” reruns of “The Family Guy,” and “Hoarders,” here is your corrupt and wildly out of touch media at work:

Colbert now stands alone as the 2012 election’s must-watch court jester. And watching they are — and the comparisons with Stewart are inevitable.

“The satire is fantastic and very unambiguous,” said Sirius XM’s Julie Mason. “I am starting to get alarmed by how many people think Jon Stewart is a newsman. He is a nonfiction entertainer. I do love Colbert more than Jon Stewart.”

Erin McPike, a political reporter for RealClearPolitics, said, “I can’t think of another comedian who has the pulse of politics quite like Colbert. It does look like Stewart has become Colbert’s sidekick — sort of a role reversal from how things used to be, which makes it funnier in my opinion.”

“I’d say Colbert is definitely the edgier of the pair these days,” said The Atlantic’s Garance Franke-Ruta.

Politico actually writes that Colbert is the 2012 election cycle’s “must-watch.” And yet the propagandist behind this piece, Patrick Gavin, never bothers to mention that no one watches him. Hilariously, Gavin reports that Colbert’s ratings are “steady.”

This is worse than being bubbled, though, this is all about a political agenda. Even MSNBC’s Chuck Todd has stated openly that Colbert is all about taking down conservatives (a fact Gavin omits when describing Todd’s concerns), but what Obama’s MSM Palace Guards really like is Colbert’s ferocious, fascistic attacks on unlimited political speech.

Super PACs aren’t just the enemy of whomever they’re targeting in the political world, super PACs are the MSM’s number-one rival for the relaying of information to the masses. In order for the media to control the narrative they must have the airwaves and cable channels all to themselves.

The irony here is that there is no bigger group of super PACs in this country than Colbert’s own Comedy Central and the mainstream media. Each is backed by gajillionaires and are all part of a multi-national corporation. Oh, and they all have left-wing political agendas. So of course Colbert and his trained MSM seals want unlimited political speech in the form of super PACs toxified and eliminated, for there’s nothing that threatens the left more than free and open debate.

Controlling the narrative is how you elect Democrats and that’s where the MSM’s clown-monkey Stephen Colbert found his free speech-stifling niche.

No one watches Colbert, but he’s not looking for an audience, he’s looking for accolades from the elite and the influence opportunities they offer him to push the country towards undermining free speech and getting Barack Obama reelected.

What Colbert is doing to kill free speech is a massive con. The only bigger con is the one currently in play by the MSM to pretend that Colbert has some sort of populist appeal.

But the numbers don’t lie, and Colbert’s real appeal (outside of the predominantly white and leftist Politico newsroom) is statistically something romantically close to ZERO. He’s also the first so-called satirist I’ve ever come across who wants to limit free speech.

Well, other than his mentor Jon Stewart.

Lenny Bruce would be so proud.

Buried near the bottom of a mostly glowing feature piece written by George Soros’ disciple Ken Vogel at the left-wing Politico:

Brad Smith, a past FEC chairman who now heads the Center for Competitive Politics, which advocates for less campaign finance regulation, also counts himself a fan of Colbert’s campaign finance jokes in the past, but thinks that this year, he’s off base.

“I think his super PAC stuff has largely been misleading the public,” he said. “He’s giving very misleading impressions about how disclosure obligations work, and he’s given a misleading understanding about why there are rules about coordination in politics.”

The rule banning coordination is “intended to prevent campaign contributions from being essentially a substitute for bribery,” he said, and is not really as ridiculous as Colbert and Stewart try to make it seem.

More broadly, he takes issue with those who look at Citizens United as some kind of cataclysmic event.

“You had unlimited money before. You always had unlimited money in politics. Prior to Citizens United, [Newt Gingrich super PAC backer] Sheldon [Adelson] could have gone out and spent the money himself,” he said. “There’s this belief that this is creating some big, huge difference in the system, and it’s really not.”

But the campaign finance reform community is thrilled to have what they see as an ally who can reach new audiences.

Because they share his agenda, the left-wing media loves what Colbert is doing and the fact that Colbert is cloaking his anti-free speech crusade in satire means the media feels no obligation to expose his falsehoods.

Devious but genius teamwork, don’t you think?

***UPDATE: One of the folks involved in the event was kind enough to forward the video. It’s a must-watch. The great Frank Luntz gets bigger laughs than Colbert (who gets none) and not because these South Carolina moms “don’t get” the joke. These are smart women who know Colbert’s joke really isn’t. Watch how many of them describe Colbert as a left-winger and, quite hilariously, as a “Charleston dandy.”

Man, I love the American people.

—–

Because those left-wing journOlists at Politico share Colbert’s agenda to define GOP candidates as out-of-touch, because Politico shares Colbert’s goal to deny free speech to millionaires not named Stephen Colbert and corporations not named Politico, it makes sense that after gushing all over Colbert in somewhere around 258,223 stories, Politico would bury the lede in the 258,224th:

Via POLITICO’s Mackenzie Weinger in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Stephen Colbert made his appearance at the Café Moms town hall via a recorded video message:

Stephen Colbert made a cameo appearance at the Café Moms town hall meeting in Myrtle Beach on Monday with a recorded message asking the audience if they agree with Mitt Romney’s line that “corporations are people.” …

“My next question for the Café Moms South Carolina town hall is: What do you think about South Carolina’s favorite son forming an exploratory committee to run for president? While you discuss that I’m going to call my mom.”

And snark, snark, snark, and blah, blah, blah.

The real story, however, is found (as it usually is at Politico) near and at the bottom:

Most of the audience said they thought corporations were indeed people before Colbert came back onscreen in another taped segment. …

The crowd, with just a few exceptions, said they had absolutely no interest in a Colbert run. The comedian is set to respond to the moms later this afternoon.

None of this matters to Colbert, though, because his audience isn’t the everyday people anymore; it’s the elites in the media. He’s become their personal funny-monkey by promoting himself to the left-wing MSM’s personal and political prejudices.

As I write this, there is nothing on the front page of Politico about Solyndra, Fast and Furious, the under-employed, or the large numbers of those who have lowered the unemployment rate by giving up their search for work, but there are TWO front-page stories about Stephen Colbert’s antics.

Colbert is not engaging in political humor, he’s engaging in partisan politics disguised as humor — and the corrupt MSM is enabling him every step of the way.

In a Nov. 21 interview with “Rolling Stone,” Questlove told the interviewer of his plans to do exactly what he did:

“I’m gunning for Bachmann,” Questlove, a vocal Obama fan, told Rolling Stone. To put a time stamp on the comment, the magazine wrote that during the interview, he was “looking up walk-on songs for next week’s shows.”

With the roaring success ”The Undefeated” has already had at changing the conversation about Sarah Palin from tanning beds and crosshair maps to, you know, her actual record as a public servant, the Left and their dishonest allies in the MSM are obviously as worried as they are desperate. As a result, this morning at ”The Atlantic” we’re greeted with a 950+ word article filled with precious NPR-esque prose and the delicate pose of a journalist just reporting the difficult truth, all under the following headline:

Sarah Palin Movie Debuts to Empty Theater in Orange County

We’re then told:

It isn’t strictly accurate to say that I sat through the whole movie alone. Just as the previews started, two young women walked in giggling together and took seats three rows behind me. Afraid that they’d ruined the only story I had at that point — What If Sarah Palin Starred in a Movie and No One Showed Up? — I hoped they’d at least oblige me with an interview, and so they did.

From there, the corrupt MSM has been gleefully off and running and amplifying the glorious news:

The hard-left film site Movie Line:

Empty Theaters, 0% Positive Reviews Greet Sarah Palin Documentary

New York Magazine:

For the debut of the Sarah Palin documentary, Atlantic scribe Conor Frieserdorf was alone in an Orange County, California, theater, one of just ten nationwide showing The Undefeated.

Frum Forum:

Palin Movie Opens to No Crowds

Salon:

Palin movie debuts to an audience of empty seats

And naturally, Politico’s Ben Smith of the Tanning Bed Smiths:

The Unwatched

One writer. One article. One screening. Apparently, what we used to consider anecdotal now equals news. And as a result you have a genuine media narrative being brewed with headlines intentionally written to create the perception that the “The Undefeated” is DOA — in the Republican stronghold of Orange Country, no less.

Translation: It’s over, Palinistas! Please form a single-file line to the right where all your hopes and dreams will be stripped and burned.

Except…

If you read the fine print…

“The Atlantic” writer is reporting on his experience at a midnight screening … on a Thursday night.

No.

Really.

Read the story again and you’ll see that the emptiness of a midnight screening on a work night is not only worthy of 950+ words and a wildly misleading headline, but also all these subsequent MSM stories filled with similar headlines.

And you can bet there will be more stories to come.

This is how the corrupt MSM works.

This is how they create phony narratives out of nothingness in order to attack and undermine their ideological enemies.

Where’s the story about this?

Or this?

Unfortunately, stories of a theatre selling out in a very small town don’t fit the MSM narrative. The left-wing media wants the film to flop and will grasp at any straw available — even a midnight screening on a work night — to create the perception that it already has.

I have no idea how well the “The Undefeated” will do at the box office. It’s way too early to write those stories. Hell, I’m not even a “journalist” and I know that.

Though notorious for my lousy memory, anyone who’s ever shared this experience will understand why I’ll never forget my first phone call with Andrew Breitbart. It’s hard to believe almost three years have passed so quickly, but I do remember the conversation like it was yesterday. At the time I was trying to squeak out a living at a website of my own that was pretty much devoted to my vision-less complaining about the terrible effect left-wing politics was having on my beloved motion picture industry. On a good day, I maybe got 5,000 hits but things were so financially dire that something had to give — and by “something had to give,” I mean, “I was a month away from going back to bill collecting.”

Then the email came: Please call me. *phone number* –Andrew Breitbart.

I knew of Andrew and had only met him very briefly once before but that day we talked for over two hours and if I were smarter, anything close to charismatic, and capable of being a visionary, it would’ve been like talking to myself. By that time I had already been trying to sound the alarm about what was happening in Hollywood for nearly three years. Certainly there were people who appreciated it, but 5,000 hits a day does not a movement make. But here was this guy on the other end of the phone speaking about it with more passion and insight than I had ever heard before: This is about America. This is about a blacklist. This is about a diversity of opinion at the pop culture table. This is about my kids. This is about truth, justice, and the American way. Out of anyone else’s mouth this would’ve sounded corny as hell, but from Andrew it sounded like The Ramones had entered the building.

So there was that, and then there was the vision. A media empire of BIG sites. Over ten of them: Big Government, Big Journalism, Big Peace, Big Education, Big Israel, and my personal favorite, Big Soros. But it would have to start with Big Hollywood, he said, because nothing was more important than the culture. If you couldn’t win a seat at the table of pop culture, the others won’t matter. Everything is downstream from Hollywood — and not just politics. Hollywood shapes our children, our country, and most importantly, it shapes how the world sees our country. Unless we gain a foothold on that beach, the rest of the invasion will fail.

When I hung up the phone the only doubt I had about his judgment was that he was considering me for the job. Not to be falsely modest, but who was I? Well, as it turned out I was uniquely qualified. I love movies, I know about them, I ran a blog, I can write some, I enjoyed some experience in the industry, I’m right-of-center, politically, and I had never been convicted of a felony. In my life I have failed way more than I have ever succeeded, but somewhere along the way I did manage to build an unexceptional resume that, as luck would have it, also happened to check all the boxes necessary for a shot at running Big Hollywood. But still, think about it: if you’re going to build a media empire, if you want to make a splash and plant a flag in the big bad media world, wouldn’t it be better to open with a star player like Peter Schweizer, Dana Loesch, Mike Walsh or Mike Flynn as opposed to some guy plunking away at an obscure blog no one’s ever heard of? I wouldn’t have gone that way, but…

That’s how important the culture is to Andrew. Business-wise there was absolutely no upside in using as the foundation for a dream a completely unknown name on the masthead of a site that covers a niche topic. Thankfully, though, that decision wasn’t up to me.

Furthermore, popular culture has been Andrew’s passion going all the way back to 2004 when he teamed up with Mark Ebner to write “Hollywood Interrupted: Insanity Chic in Babylon — The Case Against Celebrity,” which means that this was the priority of his life even before it was mine — and I’m older than he is.

And so this is how JournOlism works: Starting with our left-wing friends at Mediaite, looping back up through the equally leftist Talking Points Memo and Politico before finally landing at MSNBC, the idea is to do anything and everything in an attempt to humiliate, demean, and diminish Sarah Palin — and that includes the spinning of a compliment made by one of her biggest fans and chief defenders into a criticism.

Not everyone can be President of these here United States, but more than one person can. How many people on our side, though, have what the legendary movie moguls once called oomph? The former Governor of Alaska has star power to burn, savvy to spare, is as tough as a hickory knot, and yet while were told again and again by The Sophisticated Class that she’s dumb as a post, somehow she also happens to be right about almost everything. But because his primary passion is the culture, Andrew sees Palin as a transcendent figure — someone, yes, bigger than the presidency — a “Red State” Oprah. He said so on the record back in November, and in my personal conversations with him, he has said so since I’ve started working for him.

Anyone who knows me or who has followed me on Twitter knows that all Sarah Palin has to do is point to the broken glass she wants me to crawl over. I’ve never seen anyone put through such a cruel, mean-spirited, public meat grinder where their family, womb, faith, gender, dialect, looks and culture are all fair game for the worst kinds of smears. And because she has survived this unprecedented evil with such grace and dignity – Sarah Palin is my hero. And of course I want her to be president. But when Andrew says that he sees her as the Oprah of the right; once again, he’s seeing the bigger picture — the pop culture landscape that shapes and defines our politics in ways not enough people on our side understand (you better believe the Left gets it).

There ’s only one Sarah Palin and she would make for one outstanding president, and like Andrew I will vote for her in a heartbeat and fight for her every step of the way. But it’s just a fact that the price of a President Sarah Palin is a hole in the crucial pop culture war that only she can fill. And only a wicked, journOlisting MSM would attempt to spin into a negative a man publicly declaring that he would like to see this one person lead the charge in a battle that has defined his life more than any other.

*LSM = Lamestream Media.

With all the tragedy in the world today, all the righteous causes that could use a little burst of stardom, what does the following reveal about these celebs?

The left-wing Politico:

Some celebrities are speaking out in support of Bradley Manning, the U.S. Army private accused of disclosing classified materials to the website WikiLeaks.

Among them: Viggo Mortensen and Michael Stipe, who joined with Amnesty International and the Center for Constitutional Rights and sent a letter Saturday to President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates “asking for immediate action into the inhumane treatment of” Manning. ….

Others who signed the letter include Daniel Ellsberg, Rosanne Cash, Shepard Fairey, Danny Glover and Tom Morello.

During a rally Sunday outside the Marine Corps Base Quantico, where Manning is being held, dozens were arrested, including Ellsberg.

With Haiti, Japan, three Middle East wars, refugees in Africa, homeless in America, sock drawers to be organized and lint to be plucked from belly buttons, these jerkoffs find a guy accused of being a traitor to America worth their celebrity.

Revealing. Not terribly surprising. But revealing.

Yesterday, in this piece about Stephen Colbert,I mentioned Jon Stewart’s attack on Fox News but couched it with as much skepticism as possible because, frankly, it didn’t pass the smell test, especially in the area of context. To have those suspicions confirmed last night by Bill O’Reilly came as no surprise (see the video below). Furthermore, I respectfully disagree with O’Reilly that Stewart should be held to a lower factual standard because he’s a ”satirist.” Stewart isn’t a satirist, he’s a political partisan disguised as a satirist, a man as determined to defeat the right as Nancy Pelosi and Bill Maher. The difference between Pelosi and Maher, though, is that they step into the arena of political battle and fly their flag. At the very least you can respect them for that. They come to wage open war whereas Stewart and Colbert come to throw rocks while wearing the protective shield of a clown nose.

—–

I love our side and there’s really no lower form of life than someone on our side who undermines their own, so I say this to be constructive, not destructive. There are a lot of people on the Right who love Jon Stewart, people I respect, some of whom I know and like. And I agree that Stewart’s very good at what he does (which is why I take him seriously). But a conservative admiring the brilliance of Jon Stewart’s talent is like a boxer admiring the power of Mike Tyson’s punch as he’s beating you senseless. You have to fight back and in that respect, last night O’Reilly did an excellent job of threading a very difficult needle. Stewart is not easy to lay a glove on, but this was a clean hit. (You’ll be glad to know that I am now out of boxing metaphors).

Another point O’Reilly made that should be highlighted, is how the so-called “objective” or “legitimate” media too often takes what Stewart and Colbert do as some kind of gospel. Because Stewart is a “comedian,” the liberal media uses that as an excuse to blow up what he does on their air or online without bothering to fact-check, even when the stakes involve reputations. We’ve seen this before. Nobody watches “Saturday Night Live” but everyone saw Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin impression. With a smirk, and as though it didn’t matter, the left-wing media let Tina Fey do their dirty work on Palin with the endless looping of those SNL clips all in the name of “fun.” Well, it’s not fun, it’s an attempt to dehumanize someone into a national punchline and the media knew it.

An excellent example of this is Mediaite, a far-left site disguising themselves as “objective.” Like Stewart, they’re very good at what they do, but they are by design and on a daily basis aiding and abetting this sinister practice of cherry-picking videos that further the Leftist narrative in the hopes they’ll go viral. Again, the idea is to dehumanize the subject into a punchline. Why would a legitimate news site post this, or this, or especially this? There’s nothing of substance there. It’s about isolating and targeting a political opponent. At one point yesterday, there were no less than four stories on Mediate’s front page ridiculing Michelle Bachmann, none of them on the substance of her post-SOTU remarks, all of them meant to further the narrative that she’s dumb. One. Two. Three. Four.

And did Mediaite question Stewart’s attack on Fox News and Bill O’Reilly. That’s a rhetorical question. It’s one thing for an openly political website to do this, our own BreitbartTV and our friends at NewsBusters are excellent examples, but like Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Politico, and the MSM, Mediaite thinks they can do more damage through duplicity. And so that I’m not accused of doing my own cherry-picking, I invite you to spend some time here and here, and come to your own conclusions.

There’s also something darkly twisted and pschologically disturbing about these relentless anti-substance attacks on Palin and Bachmann [update: don't forget Christine O'Donnell], and it’s not just Mediaite. As the Hollywood Reporter pointed out yesterday, you see it at MSNBC, as well. They’re all members of what I all the HeManAttractiveConservativeWomanHatersClub. There’s an anti-woman rage bubbling on the Left, and due to the fact that there’s a big asterisk next to the name’s Palin and Bachmann in any handbook of professional journalism, that bubbling is allowed to boil over without consequence. In a world where professional journalism exists, the guy who actually gave the State of the Union address would get the most press, no? To be fair and clear, I do not believe Colbert and Stewart are members of that club.

Most importantly, what we’re witnessing here is a preview of 2012. You can see how the Leftist media is going to use Jon Stewart and you can see how Jon Stewart is going to allow himself to be used. Same with Colbert and SNL. Because so-called “satirists” are held to a lower factual standard and the media is desperate to destroy their political opponents by any means necessary without appearing to get their hands dirty, what you have here is a marriage made in Alinsky Hell.

Stewart and his dishonest media allies are ruthless and playing for keeps, and that’s no joke. O’Reilly did good work pushing back last night. Here’s hoping we see more of that from our side.

UPDATE: Someone made a comment that told me I might not have been as clear as intended. The HeManAttractiveConservativeWomanHatersClub is not “sexist.” I never used that word, never crossed my mind to. Women on the Left are just as energized to destroy these women on the right as Chris Matthews is. Something about smart, attractive, independent-minded conservative women enrages the Left. And whatever it is, it’s twisted and cruel.

So late last night, I stumbled onto Joe Scarborough’s column on Politico, calling for a “higher level of debate.”

There, he built a condo in Jon Stewart’s butt, saluting the comedian’s attempt to challenge “extremists of all stripes.” He swoons, “I’m just naive enough to believe that Stewart’s rally might make a difference,” overlooking the fact that the sanity rally was a preemptive gesture, meant to undermine a conservative comeback.

The rally would not have happened, after all, if the shellacking was on the other foot.

Whatever: Joe just earned himself another Daily Show invite.

Anyway, last night I tweeted that, in 14 hours, Obama will call for end to partisanship. And, on cue, he did: in defeat – calling for a renewed civility.

Which I’m for, I guess.

But Obama needs to see the difference between incivility and legitimate anxiety. The incivility really began when people questioned him. Remember, it wasn’t the tea party calling the media morons and idiots. It was the opposite, when those old folks started showing up at town halls, speaking truth to Obama.

Look, people get mad when they sense something underhanded. We inherently distrust people and policies that rise to levels of success, without earning it. It started with the health care bill – something no one read, but our government passed. And when its critics became the actual targets of bile – that was the real incivility.

Here were the Democrat talking points:

If you’re against the health care bill, you want children to die.

If you’re against cap and trade, you want the earth to die.

If you disagree with Obama, you must be racist.

So, yeah – civility is great and working together is peachy. But as a baby-hating, earth-killing bigot – aren’t I kind of hopeless?

And if you disagree with me, you’re a racist, homophobic babyphobe.

Tonight:

John Gibson!

Angela McGlowan!

John Devore!
