I am always troubled by those in government claiming they have a moral imperative to enact this or that policy. A little digging often reveals that their motives are more self serving than moral. I am doubly troubled when those raising the moral banner tend to reject the very idea of an objective morality applicable to all men at all times.

Such is the case with liberal Democrats and their insistence that the moral laws of the universe – laws that have been with us since God breathed life into man (or as some would have it when we rose from the primordial soup) – command Government to supply every citizen (and many that aren’t) with health insurance.

But as is generally the case all we need do is scratch the surface and the truth reveals itself.

As reported in the Wall Street Journal, John Cassidy of the New Yorker lets the cat out of the bag when he writes on The New Yorker website that we must be clear about what the reform amounts to. “The U.S. government is making a costly and open-ended commitment,” Cassidy writes. “The Obama Administration . . . is creating a new entitlement program, which, once established, will be virtually impossible to rescind.” And why are they doing it? Again the WSJ quotes Cassidy: Because “ObamaCare serves the twin goals of making the United States a more equitable country” and furthering the Democrats’ “political calculus.” In other words, the purpose is to further redistribute income by putting health care further under government control, and in the process making the middle class more dependent on government. As the party of government, Democrats will benefit over the long run.”

That might explain why this massive 2000 page bill uses the command “shall”- business “shall” do this, you “shall” do that — 3,345 times; creates 111 new government boards, commissions and bureaucracies all overseen by a healthcare czar and subjects every aspect of healthcare to government regulation; all this at a whopping cost to taxpayers of $1.5 trillion over 10 years, which will be paid for through a host of new taxes, penalties and fees. In spite of rumors to the contrary; there is no free lunch.

This bitter pill might be easier to swallow if the new left was at least honest in admitting that the cost of seeing this imperative through will be paid for in freedoms. These new Knights Templar have defended their cause with constant references to affordability and yet under their plan what is affordable ceases to be a subjective measure that each man can make for himself according to his individual needs and priorities. Rather it becomes an objective measure defined by the new “Commissioner of Health Choices.” Every American will be forced to purchase an insurance policy. The government will decide what benefits those policies must include. Even if you are happy with your current insurance plan you will have to switch to a policy that includes the government mandated benefits even if you don’t want them, will never use them and their inclusion will increase the price you pay for coverage. And suppose you decide for whatever reason that you are simply not going to pay? Well the house bill specifies “a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.” Imprisonment.whereupon you will of course receive free government healthcare.

There is nothing quite like morality imposed at the point of a gun, or which benefits some at the expense of others.

The Pelosi bill narrowly won passage in the house after Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) offered an amendment prohibiting abortion coverage in the public option as well as any private plans accepting people receiving taxpayer subsidies. But be not dismayed; Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the Democrats’ chief deputy whip in the House of Representatives has promised that she and other pro abortion democrats will work overtime to ensure that the Stupak amendment is not included in the final version of the health care bill. During an appearance on MSNBC Wasserman Schultz declared, “I am confident that when it comes back from the conference committee that that language won’t be there.” That’s right; those claiming a moral imperative to reform healthcare are the same folks that believe they also have a moral right to murder children in utero AND force others to pay for it.

It seems obvious why those claiming the mantle of righteousness chose to pass this monstrosity of awfulness under cover of darkness. Thankfully — to quote the pop star Jeffry Osborne — “I really don’t need no light to see through you.”

As we come down to the wire on Pelosi’s government-run health care bill, look for the left to trot out every possible relic of more prosperous times in a desperate attempt to pass this thing (or at a minimum avoid reading it). Thus, it’s hardly a surprise Ex-President Josiah Bartlet, the greatest statesmen of our time, as well as Ex-First Lady Betty Rizzo decided to put their 100% approval ratings among likely voters who approve of Martin Sheen and Stockard Channing on the line to support the cause of rationed care. Bartlett, like so many other Democrat ex-politicians, can’t seem to take the hint that a graceful exit is far preferable to wearing out your welcome.

As is customary in these celeb health care PSAs, the fake ex-President and fake ex-First Lady don’t offer those of us with more modest incomes the reassurance that they will be accepting this “public insurance option” they so boldly tout over their cushy Screen Actors’ Guild (or comparably comprehensive) plans, rendering themselves, to quote on Holden Caulfield, “phonies.”

Consider this reason #2 trillion this bill needs to go down.

I quit politics.

For one thing, I can’t sleep because I absent-mindedly forgot to include three of my favorite Freedom Fighters in my Truth Tellers list, Levin, Malkin and Coulter. I love them. If they ever find out that I forgot to mention them in my last blog, they will forever not know how much I respect/honor them. This is giving me a headache, and making me chew off all of my new fake fingernails. I can’t even enjoy my rented DVD Season Two Compilation of “Mad Men.” Oh, and I love Stossel, Gallagher, Stein and Morris too!

Okay, then I find out Gingrich is pal-ing up with Pelosi about Global Warming! Eww! Defector! Oh man! Strike him off my list. Now! He’s off!

Picking leaders is painful. Voting. If you put their name up on your car, or in your yard or tattoo it to your face, you are suddenly responsible for every move they make and every word they say. Too much pressure.

Thirdly, I cannot bear the hatred of the Left. Their comments. The look on their faces in my rear view mirror when I see them noticing my “Fox News: Truth” bumper sticker, or my “Glenn Beck” bumper sticker, or my “Okay, joke’s over. Bring back the Constitution” bumper sticker. Their snide glances and snaps of disgust. I can’t take it anymore. Hatred hurts.

Fourthly, I start college tomorrow. It’s my last class. Science 101. I need to focus. I started my college degree, a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, in 1976. I had to stop and work, you know, to pay for it. College tuition is expensive. Then, there was the six-year “Saturday Night Live” distraction in NY, and the 15 years of raising a family in Miami distraction. But now, I’m back and ready to finish my degree. I took all the fun classes first and left the “vegetables” for last. So, I just finished Math, and now Science. How timely though, because now I can become an expert on Climate Change and explain to Gore, Pelosi and Obama how ridiculous their hoax is, if I can catch them between their fuel-guzzling, earth killing, private jet trips. I mean, really. (Nancy’s private jet costs taxpayers $60,000 one way for the trip she takes weekly to D.C. where she is working hard to take our freedoms away!)

FACT: More greenhouse gases are emitted from one volcano than all the automobiles ever made of all time. (”Deb and Seby’s Real Deal on Global Warming” by Al Sonja Schmidt.) So, humans are not responsible for the weather. Whatever Communist replaces Van Jones, the Green Jobs Czar should read that book and the book, “Heaven and Earth” by Ian Plimer, and see the movie, “Not Evil, Just Wrong.” But the Obama Administration doesn’t care about the FACTS! They are using this Green Scam to continue the economic destruction of America. It’s so obvious! The Stimulus Package did not create jobs, it paid back O’s friends for voting for him. Free Enterprise and Capitalism create jobs. Capitalism would save our economy. But no, Obama can’t do that! He’s a Marxist! Spread the Wealth! Kill production! Obamacare/Socialized Medicine and Cap N Trade/Tax are huge boulders that will crash our economy. The Government controlled Health Care would cripple small businesses that couldn’t compete with the “public option” (hurts my mouth to say it), and the Cap N Trade/Tax would do the same. Jobs would go overseas where they have no energy limitations. Can’t somebody stop this?!

OBAMA IS TRYING TO DESTROY AMERICA!!!!

Obama’s plan is so obvious, people don’t see it. It’s under their noses.

Once our economy is dead, we will have to lean on the government for everything and his evil plan will be complete. He’ll probably rename our country Obamica. He’ll make a law that says his presidential term is limitless, like his friends Chavez, Castro, Stalin, Lenin, Mao, etc. He’ll rule with his oligarchy, Jarrett, Reid, Pelosi, Frank and Soros, etc. They’ll all be fat and happy, smoking and playing basketball, and we’ll all be sad, poor, depressed Communists.

I will not let that happen to my free country!!

Can I fight for freedom without being involved in icky politics?

(Side Note: Speaking of humans affecting the climate, there was an “X Files Episode” called “The Rain King” where I got to play a woman whose emotions affected the weather! When I cried, it rained ! My character also had to kiss David Duchovny on the mouth! But, I digress.)

Back to why I am quitting politics;

Fifthly, politics is boring. Super boring.

Sixthly, politics is mean. Everyone’s so mean to each other.

But, politics can’t be ignored even if you try to ignore it. It overlaps every part of our lives. Have you seen the new video of the British Lord who is warning us about the upcoming Climate Change Summit where the world leaders will use the Global Warming scam to get money from the U.S. (middle class taxpayers again) AND use it, the Green Scam as an excuse to create a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT?!

–

I have heard this Biblical Prophecy in church since I was 6 years old! (Revelation by the Apostle John dated A.D. 81-96 and Matthew 24, Mark 13 and ”When The World Will Be As One” by Tal Brooke copyright 1989). Who knew it would be a Green Scam that would initiate this prophecy’s fulfillment? Green sounds so harmless. Who doesn’t love the Earth?! With all these “end times” signs becoming reality; Famine, War, The Breakup of the Family Unit, Earthquakes, Christians hated/tortured, (the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), comprised of 57 Muslim nations, is vigorously pushing the U.N. to vote yet again on a cleverly worded ”tolerance” resolution, which would criminalize the proclamation of the Gospel!), False Prophets, Gospel Preached around the world, and now One World Government….

…The Question Becomes: If this is the end…what should we do? Get involved politically and fight for our freedom or just sit at home, watch “Mad Men” and wait for Jesus to return?

Gary Shandling said on Joy Behar’s show the other day, (sarcastically) “Isn’t Jesus supposed to be here by now?” I said to the TV, “He’s waiting for you Gary.” (”It is appointed onto man once to die, after this the judgement.” Hebrews 9:27)

I would rather talk about God than politics.

But, I can’t talk about God if I don’t have Freedom of Speech!!

So…I guess… I really can’t quit politics.

And, neither can you! Get Involved!

Patrick Henry would want you to:

Nancy Pelosi, having renamed the Public Option, the ‘Consumer Option,’ triumphantly trotted out this morning the Hose version of the Health Care Reform Bill, now called The Affordable American Health Care Bill. (“Affordable” – what does that mean, exactly? Affordable to whom?) But then Steny Hoyer proclaimed the process of crafting the bill the most open, transparent process he’s seen in over thirty years in Congress. (Really??) And finally, the President followed up on Teleprompters to announce that finally we have a bill that will cover the 36 million uninsured, not cost the taxpayers anything extra, improve the quality of our health-care system, and bring down the costs of health care. Speaker Pelosi assured us that this bill represents the principles of “…opportunity, choice, competition, and innovation.”

How can you tell when they’re lying? Their lips are moving.

They think you’re stupid. It’s understandable that they should think that, because though they may on occasion listen to you, they never really hear you. Hence, the only frame of reference for feedback on their incredibly absurd redistributive ideas, tax-and-spend proposals and unprecedented treasury-busting health care take-over bills…comes from their own constituents, the Democrats. Whoops and hollers, cheers and laughter, nods, smiles, enthusiastic ‘yes-we-cans!’… as they serve up yet another heaping portion of socialist slop you’ll be expected to grab your ankles and pay for. They think you’re stupid.

As the entire Democratic Party has now been fully commandeered by the hard Left, I wrestle daily with the following quandary: Are they evil? Or merely dense?

Anyone paying attention and not mired in self-deceit can easily see that everything the current administration and Democrat-controlled Congress is doing and attempting to do is based in Marxian principles of redistribution, government takeovers of private industry and control of the American citizenry. And anyone with just a rudimentary knowledge of basic economic principles and merely a modicum of historical perspective can see that capitalism lifts up and advances any civilization it touches; whereas socialism degrades quality of life by enriching the government as it dis-empowers the individual. Freedom-loving people worldwide have been battling these statist oppressors throughout the millennia. The failure of a modern American voting populace to intellectually link the smiling promises of today’s ‘free’ lunch with the blood, death and horror of tyrants of the past is to shame us all with a new definition of national myopia.

They’re lying to us. A bill crafted behind closed doors, excluding participation by the opposition party, the Republicans, and rejecting all alternative ideas about health care reform like freedom to shop insurance plans interstate? Or TORT reform, so that doctors don’t have to practice defensive medicine? Or how about cutting down government red tape so hospital administrators don’t have to add the cost of voluminous paperwork to medical bills, and pairing back excessive government regulations so that hospitals and doctors can drive down costs through healthy competition? But Steny Hoyer called it an open and transparent process. Right.

Timothy Geithner is asking the government for more control over the Fed. That’s certainly comforting. His answer to current economic woes is to borrow more hundreds of billions from China…and print more money. But – if they’re printing billions and billions of more dollars, doesn’t it make the dollars already in my hand…worth… less? Uh…yeah. And just wait until next year when the banks start to put these newly printed dollars into circulation. And gold shoots sky high and the dollar plummets. Then the fun begins…

They’re stealing from you.

Not only are they working around the clock to shore up their losses and lunatic-lefty programs, but they are preparing to raise your taxes through the roof. Some of them will be hidden ‘fees.’ (Watch for them to pop up like measles spots when the virus begins.) Some of them will be overt, you’ll be able to see them, at least for the ‘wealthy’ – you know, anyone earning over 100K. But once inflation kicks in, pretty soon that will be the greater majority of us. And they’ll expect us to be happy we’re earning so much. And never mind the fact that those dollars we’re earning are becoming ever-increasingly worthless, and our standard of living is starting to tank. Shortages, rationing, loss of services… Anyone remember the long lines at the gas stations in the Carter years? Odd-and-Even days to fill up? Fist fights at the pumps…station owners wearing side-arms?

But our leader smiles endearingly and promises us that it will all work out. After all, there is a beautiful rainbow in the sky and if we just follow his dream for America we will find at the end of it (after eight short years)…a pot of gold. We merely have to Believe. Just close our eyes, stare at his picture, click our heels three times and the Leprechaun in Chief will deliver us a pot of gold.

As the media and the Marxists march us to the edge of the bottomless pit of total government control of our wealth, our businesses, our property…our very lives…(some call this tyranny)…we are left with this question about our current leaders: Are they evil…or merely stupid? Or both?

And more importantly…what are you going to do about it?

Back in April, Vice President Biden uttered dire warnings about catching Swine Flu in subways and commercial airplanes. Per the usual pattern, the White House quickly apologized for “Amtrak Joe’s” remarks. But now, just a few months later, the President also has declared a national emergency. The H1N1 is spreading, and instead of 120 million expected doses, only 11 million shipped last week. In a few weeks, the vaccine may become widely available, but it hasn’t yet. Even the Obama children reportedly haven’t received the vaccine (although I hope they get immunized if that’s what their family decides).

Personally, I think the Swine Flu hysteria is a bit over-hyped. But on the other hand, I’d rather not get sick if I can avoid it. This year is particularly important for my family because my wife is pregnant with identical twins. That type of pregnancy comes with risks already, and the H1N1 can be rough on expectant mothers. So, after doing our research, we decided she would get immunized at the first opportunity, which was this past week. In the process, we saw one possible future outcome of health care “reform” – rationing.

The H1N1 vaccine made its limited debut this past weekend in Southern California at a few government-chosen distribution centers. Near us, in Balboa Park in Encino, people lined up on the Friday starting at 3:00 a.m. By that afternoon, the daily supply had run out. So, at my wife’s (very strong) recommendation, I woke up at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday and dutifully got in line. The park was still dark outside when I arrived, with just four people camped out ahead of me in blankets and beach chairs. As daylight broke, the line grew.

By 8:00 a.m., the line was across the park and my wife and our little daughter showed up. My wife and other expectant mothers were hoping for a version of the H1N1 vaccine prepared without the “controversial” preservative Thimerosal. (There’s a movement that suspects Thimerosal causes autism. From what I’ve read, there’s no link, but I understand why concerned parents, if given the choice, would rather not risk it. Anyway, I’m no doctor, so I’ll leave the debate to our distinguished medical specialists (like, uh, John Kerry, Chris Dodd and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.).

Shortly after 8:00 a.m., word got out that only 60 doses of Thimerosal-free vaccine were available. That is, just 60 doses for all pregnant women across the entire San Fernando Valley (which has a population of over one million). Expectant mothers were told to get out of line and head to the back entrance. The park staff were admirable and helpful. They tried to organize a new line, but there was no formal system and with only 60 spaces available, people were tense. One lady with a particularly obnoxious and uncouth sense of entitlement got a coveted spot near the front of the new line, but that apparently wasn’t good enough because she went on to berate the busy staff for not making her the very first. Other women were turned away after waiting for hours, and were told to try again the next day. Borderline chaos.

By 9:00 a.m. when the immunization center finally opened, 60 expectant mothers were queued up. (If you’re wondering, yes my wife got in because I had lined up so early and managed to convince the staff to include her.) I was back at the other entrance, waiting with my daughter for the regular vaccine… behind us, nearly a thousand other people were jostling in line.

This is 2009, in a middle-class L.A. suburb, but it looked like a Soviet Union bread line. I know long waits for medical treatment are not unknown here. L.A. emergency rooms are routinely overburdened with uninsured people who use the hospital as a basic clinic. That is a different brand of chaos, and I don’t pretend to know how to fix it. But what I do know is that my wife and I work our tails off to have private insurance so we can use a private U.S. health care system that is the envy of the world. But if the government takes over, that choice will probably disappear. Pelosi, Obama and Reid (oh my!) are dead set on “reforming” the exceptionalism right out of our system. They’re still pushing a public option that most Americans don’t want, trying to sneak it past us at midnight in thousand-page bills, or tacked quietly onto unrelated legislation. The revised drafts and permutations each week are endless and numbing. And the estimated costs, even though ultimately unknowable, are already staggering.

The Ruling Party’s current brand of health care “reform” is just the latest illness coming out of D.C. Forget the Bird Flu and Swine Flu, we first have to shake the Pork Flu. Leaders (from both parties) continue to siphon billions into pork-barrel earmarks. This past year, they rushed to pass the largest stimulus spending package in history. Even if massive spending and debt were the cure for what ails us (?), most of the money hasn’t even been spent into our economy yet, and a second stimulus package is already being discussed. (Expect to see the stimulus money poured into the economy just before the next election cycles.) On top of the Pork Flu, we’ve been hit with more than 30 cases of CZARS, as well as waves of “Botch-ulism” (botched bank bailouts, a botched Gitmo strategy, botched treatment of our allies and enemies abroad…). America has a fever (although maybe not the kind Al Gore warned of), but the cure is looking worse than the disease. Forget one flu vaccine, what will happen when we are stuck with socialized medicine for 330 million people? Medical treatment will be rationed out under cheerless and impenetrable bureaucratic rules. People with the means to afford treatment will be denied it for other reasons, such as they are elderly and have outlived their social usefulness.

Need cancer treatment? Take a pain pill.

Dennis Miller has joked, in all seriousness, that Government-run health care will resemble “the DMV with wounds.” Well, on Saturday I caught a glimpse of future chaos and it is deeply unsettling. With some legitimately needy people lacking health care, pockets of our system do need repair. But we have an entire toolbox at our disposal, not just a sledgehammer. All I’m saying is, let’s slow down a bit and think this over. Have a REAL dialogue and debate. And while we’re at it, keep riding on the subways and airlines – they employ hardworking people.

I have been a California resident for the past 23 years. During that time, I have seen the best of times and worst of times. Prior to this economic disaster, the only serious recession in those 23 years was in 1991-1992. At that time, myself and many others in similar situations faced economic turmoil. However, nothing comes close to what is happening now in what used to be the greatest State in the union.

According to the most recent reports, the unemployment rate in California has reached 12.2%. The rate in Los Angeles County is at 12.7%. Some cities within the county such as Compton and Commerce are over 20%. These are all far worse than the national rate of 9.8%.

What makes these numbers even scarier is that they have not hit rock bottom according to economic estimates at both the state and federal level. In fact, the State Government estimate of a maximum unemployment rate of 12.8% seems like it is going to be topped shortly, probably by early winter. Is it possible that California’s unemployment rate will top the number in 1940 of 14.7% which is the highest recorded on record?

All of these numbers really do not mean anything unless you compare them to other numbers in the country to get a real picture of just how bad things are here right now. The California rate is currently the fourth worst in the country. The only one significantly worse is Michigan at 15.2%. Notice any similarities between the two by the way? Not much except maybe extremely powerful unions in both!

And, on top of all this, the economy is primed to get much worse. When I drive down the streets in Los Angeles, I see nothing but empty storefronts on all major boulevards. Portions of Laurel Canyon Blvd have four to five empty storefronts on each block. Ventura Blvd., Wilshire Blvd., and Sunset Blvd are not fairing much better. And, I am told it is worse in other parts of the state.

According to some reports, the only real estate changing hands here are foreclosures and estate sales. Banks are not even evicting foreclosed owners in some parts of the Inland Empire because they want the house to be saleable when the economy finally does turn around. I mean, who wants to purchase a foreclosed house that has been destroyed by vandals. I know of one particular situation where a family has made no mortgage payments since May, 2007 and is still living in the house free of rent or tax payments.

Are there any solutions to this problem? Is there any quick fix? Or, must we just wait it out in hope that this Great State will make a comeback? I really do not believe any of the Federal Stimulus money will help the California job market. It has done nothing so far except allow some families to survive with the extension of unemployment benefits. It is definitely not helping the ailing real estate or worsening job market. If anything, the excessive federal spending is hurting the economy.

And, what have our representatives in Congress done to help us? Nancy Pelosi does nothing accept cost the US and California jobs with her constant big government, regulatory, liberal agenda. Her support of “Cap and Trade” and HR 3200 will not only effect the US Economy on the whole, but will have a double impact on the state of California. Outsourcing is already a problem here, but it will get much worse if either of these bills become law. In fact, it seems that there is already evidence that California employers are not hiring until the result of both “Cap and Trade” and health care reform are known.

The same goes for Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein. Neither of them are doing anything to support the economy in the state. They are just following the same liberal agenda regardless of how it affects the people of California.

One prime example is that there is not one Congressman representing Californians doing anything to overturn the Federal Order which stopped irrigation in the Sacramento area after it was ruled the necessary irrigation had caused the Delta Smelt, a small fish, to become endangered. This has caused the farming industry in the Sacramento and Fresno area to pretty much come to a standstill and bring the unemployment rate in the area to approximately 17%. In fact, the city of Mendota has an unemployment rate of 41%, the highest in the country. (That’s right 41%. It’s not a typo.)

Comedian Paul Rodriguez, a former Democrat and Obama supporter, whose family are farmers in the area, has left his liberal roots as a result of this fiasco. He has now appeared on Sean Hannity’s show stating that the entire area is in extreme danger. Farms are being lost, unemployment is rampant and people are starving: All to protect a little two inch fish.

And what do our Senators and Representatives in California do about this; again, absolutely nothing. It seems it is more important to protect the Delta Smelt than to protect the people of the Central Valley. Let the people starve and the fish thrive. Who cares if 80,000 people in the area are unemployed? If they can not afford bread, let them eat cake.

That is the whole problem with the current Administration and Congress in Washington and the State Legislature in Sacramento, including the aforementioned Ms. Pelosi, Ms. Boxer, and Ms. Feinstein, as well as, Mr. Waxman, Ms. Waters, Ms. Watson and the favorite of this column, Mr. Dan Lungren. They simply do not care about the people, economy or problems of the State. They care only about the special interest groups that finance and support them.

I’m reminded of “Legally Blonde 2” in which Elle’s boss, the Congresswomen, stabbed Elle in the back because a strong campaign financier was against the proposed animal rights bill. It is true whether it be fact or fiction.

In the end, the free market will bring this State back to its former glory provided that the regulators and liberals currently in control, including the Obama Administration and his cabinet, do not destroy it completely. The people of California must rise up against their current so called Representatives and do whatever is necessary to take our government back so that it is a government of the people and for the people, not for the governors!

Representative Joe Wilson shouts in the House Chamber to President Obama during a speech on Health Care Reform, “You lie,” and is forced to apologize to the President directly and compelled to apologize in the House where the incident occurred. He chooses only to apologize to the President. This did not make him many friends in the Democratic Caucus. They could not bully him into a formal apology in the Chamber. What happens next, the Democrat House votes to rebuke him in a meaningless resolution. Of course, the vote is along party lines.

A few weeks later, Representative Alay Grayson of Florida, who also happens to be a Democrat, says while debating health hare reform on the House Floor:

“If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly. That’s right. The Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick.”

And, what happens to Grayson: Nothing! The Democrat Congress does nothing. Speaker Pelosi says she will not force him to apologize or withdraw his statement. A resolution along the lines of the one rebuking Wilson is introduced in the House by the Republicans and fails. This is just another example of the Democrat double standard that exists in Congress.

But, the deeper question is this: has the debate over health care gotten to the point where the Democrats say that Republicans want Americans to die and Sarah Palin throws remarks out like “Death Squads.” Has it all come down to fear mongering and hatred on both sides? What happened to the intellectual form of debate, not only in Congress, but in the media as well?

A few weeks ago, I wrote “Why We Can’t Sign onto the Democrats Health Care Reform?” In that article I attempted to give a carefully thought out argument relating to conservative issues in the current Democrat proposal. I am not in Congress. Why can’t our elected leaders do the same? Why must they resort to fear and hatred? Is it because they have no faith in the American public to understand policy decisions? If that is the case, they are deadly wrong. We do understand and that is why President Obama and the Democratic Congress cannot get HR 3200 passed in its current form despite their overwhelming majority.

Senator Baucus of Montana, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee is fighting to get his proposed bill through the Committee. The bill has been in the mark-up phase for about two weeks. Numerous amendments have been added to it such that it has been reported to be now over 1,000 pages long. Here they go again.

And, now, Congress is debating whether this bill or HR 3200 will be available online for 72 hours before any vote on them. Why are they even debating this? Wasn’t that one of President Obama’s main campaign promises? Did he not promise more transparency in government? Didn’t he want to stimulate fair and open debate?

The very liberal “Saturday Night Live” ran a skit last week in which President Obama was parodied. The main point of the skit was not that the President is too liberal, but that the left should be just as mad as the right because after nine months in office, the President has done absolutely nothing. And, one of those “nothings” is more transparency.

Both the Congress and the President do not want America to see either proposal before they are passed. They do not want any more debate. They know that if intellectual debate continues, the current form of Health Care Reform will fail. At first Senator Baucus’ bill looked like it would work. It was just a bad enough proposal to get both sides a little angry. It smelled like an old fashioned form of bipartisan compromise.

However, to the dismay of the Democrat Leadership, it did not contain the required public option. The Democrats from the far left have sworn that a bill without the public option will not happen. The Republicans will not vote for any bill with a public option. The middle of the road Democrats, the Blue Dogs, are the key. So, maybe the plan is to just sneak the public option in at the last minute, create a sense of urgency and convince the Blue Dogs to vote for it. This is not transparency. This amounts to lies and deceit. Hey, maybe Wilson was right?

I have another question regarding this issue. Why will this miraculous form of Health Care Reform being proposed by the Democrat Leadership not take effect until 2013? Maybe, because the President and Congress both know what a disaster it will truly be and they want the President safely into his second term before the disaster strikes. Again, this seems deceitful. Hey, maybe Wilson was right?

President Obama says he wants the bill to be revenue neutral and will sign it in no other form. Yet, neither the President nor Congress has any plan on how to pay for it and keep it that way. Other than higher taxes that is. Oh, I’m sorry; the President and Congress are not calling them taxes. Remember, Obama promised that no one making less than $250,000 per year would have higher taxes. So, how is this bill being paid for: penalties. Sounds to me like taxes, after all if it smells like a duck . . . Again, maybe Wilson was right?

But, I digress. The point of this article is supposed to be about civilized debate. That is what we need. We need health care reform. We all agree on that. Maybe Congress should stop trying to bite off more than it can chew and debate the real issues on health care reform. Only, after real civilized debate will we be able to come up with a plan that actually works and makes both sides a little mad and both sides a little happy.

As I have stated before, the Republicans want the following issues addressed and debated. If the President wants this bill to be bipartisan and wants some Republican support, we need the following to be debated:

Coverage for Pre-existing Conditions;

Tort Reform;

Insurance availability across state borders;

No coverage for illegal aliens;

No coverage for elective abortions;

A means to pay for it that makes sense across the board and that will somewhat revenue neutral. (Anyone that thinks this is not going to cost some money is dreaming).

The Republican Party does not and has not ever wanted people to “die quickly.” It does not want people to die at all. But, it does want a carefully thought out plan that protects the people, the sovereignty of the states, and is fiscally sound. Representative Alan Grayson is definitely wrong and should apologize to the American people for his outlandish and hate filled statement.
