‘Too Big to Fail’ Surprisingly Fair and Entertaining

by Tim Ross

I’ve written several articles skewering HBO for producing political projects destined to air immediately prior to the 2012 election, where the vast majority of the cast and crew are passionate Barack Obama supporters, and where the content is aimed at the Democrat’s two favorite Republican villains: Sarah Palin and Dick Cheney. So, when I sat down to watch HBO’s Too Big to Fail, I prepared myself for the worst. What I didn’t expect was the big surprise awaiting me.

Too Big to Fail, which premieres on HBO on May 23, 2011, features a star studded cast recounting the events that led to the financial crisis and bailouts by the U.S. government in 2008. It is a mini-series packed into a 98-minute made-for-television movie where several essential characters are quickly introduced and where finance and economics are casually discussed. It may help if one has a baseline of knowledge about the crisis before watching the movie. If one doesn’t know who Henry Paulson, Ben Bernanke, and Timothy Geithner are or what Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs, and AIG are, it may prove slightly difficult to follow.

Although the Director, Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile), was limited to telling a very long and complicated story in a very short amount of time, he was able to skillfully pull it off. Perhaps this is because the screenwriter, Peter Gould (Breaking Bad), deftly adapted Andrew Ross Sorkin’s 2009 prize winning New York Times Bestseller, Too Big to Fail. (more…)

Meet Whitney Cummings: Up-and-Coming Comic Who Steals Jokes about Handicapped Babies

by Alexander Marlow

[CONTENT WARNING: This post contains harsh language.]

On Wednesday night, Quentin Tarantino was roasted at the New York Friars’ Club. Some of Hollywood’s most famous and talented stars were on hand, many of who did the actual roasting. Among them Samuel L. Jackson, Jerry Lewis, Sarah Silverman, Rob Schneider, Eli Roth, and Neve Campbell. One shameless roaster named Whitney Cummings, often seen on Chelsea Lately, delivered the most buzz-worthy/cringe-worthy line of the night:

[Tarantino has] produced more retarded things than Sarah Palin’s vagina.

Somewhere out there, Andrew Dice Clay is blushing. Not because the joke is off-color, he doesn’t care about that. He’s flushed because it’s unfunny, stolen hackery.

Let’s deal with the unfunny part first: Who is the butt of this joke? A toddler who suffers from down-syndrome and the mother that chose not to destroy him while he was in the womb. Yikes. Regarding Trig: Lay. Off. The. Kids. Okay? Regarding Mama Palin: Is it possible to write a more obvious joke on a more obvious target? I’m sure Ms. Cummings fancies herself irreverent; what would be truly irreverent is if she would harness a little of that hate that dwells in her dreary heart and direct it toward someone who is actually in power. Here are some possible targets she may want to consider: Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, or Joe Biden (notice how I’m not mentioning Obama’s children?). If she insists on resorting to humor that’s main attribute is shock-value, why not try a target that might actually shock someone?

Now let’s deal with the hackery part. It’s one thing that Whitney Cummings is mean-spirited, vulgar, and boring, but it’s quite another that she stole this joke. Here’s a super-NSFW clip of Louis CK on Opie and Anthony going on a jag against Sarah Palin that ends with him referring to her vagina as a “retard-making cunt.” (more…)

Ding Dong ‘Cap and Trade’ is Dead

by Greg Gutfeld

So just a day after the Republicans won big, President Obama ran screaming from the “cap and trade” program like it was a hooker with herpes.

Remember, this was his solution for global warming: curb carbon emissions by hiking the price of electricity and gas, forcing us to use less.

Well, that’s deader than the nerves in Nancy Pelosi’s face.

th-918

Says Obama:

“Cap-and-trade was just one way of skinning the cat. It was a means, not an end. I`m going to be looking for other means to address this problem.”

And with that, we owe massive gratitude to the American people.

By going to the polls and yanking one house away from Obama’s control, they – in effect – blocked the largest tax increase in history.

That’s what cap and trade was: the higher prices it guaranteed would have showed up in our electricity bill, gas stations, and in everything we buy. According to the Heritage Foundation, it would have cost the economy 161 billion dollars in 2020 – or $1,870 per family of 4. By 2035, that number jumps to $6,800. (more…)

When Righteous Organizations Go Bad: Sell-Outs at the NAACP

by Joseph C. Phillips

For decades the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People fought the good fight against racial discrimination. The organization was instrumental in defeating Jim Crow and discrimination in the work-place; it led the charge in establishing voting rights for all and equal access to quality education. Even now the NAACP does some good work in local communities. However, as a national civil-rights organization, it has lost its way.

In his seminal book, “The Souls of Black Folk,” NAACP co-founder, W.E.B. Dubois describes awakening to a morning “when men ask of the workmen, not ‘Is he white?’ but ‘Can he work?’ When men ask artists, not ‘Are they black?’ but ‘Do they know?’”

 eee

Sadly, the NAACP has veered far from Dubois’ vision and the realization of the principle of racial non-discrimination. The NAACP is now a defender of a system of racial spoils, a champion of big government, and a promoter of progressive politics. In short, the organization has been transformed into an enforcement arm of the Democrat Party. And that enforcement is achieved through the use of race as a weapon.

The NAACP’s recent report on racism within the Tea Party is a rather clumsy attempt at wielding that weapon in order to demonize political opposition to the Democrat agenda. It is also dangerous because it undermines black political and cultural progress. (more…)

There’s a Republican Party, There’s a Democrat Party, There Is No ‘Tea Party’

by Gary Graham

Am I the only one who feels like yanking my teeth out with needle nose pliers when he hears questions about what the ‘Tea Party’ is up to?  What candidate they’ll promote, which direction they’ll move next, and how the ‘Tea Party will influence upcoming election?  Am I the only one?   Okay, let’s clear this up – (unless of course I’ve taken too many rim shots to the head and have simply lost my mind, but)… there is no ‘Tea Party.’

102410_teaparty_397x224

It is not a political party.  Tea Parties are political gatherings in which concerned and outraged American citizens express their outrage at government spending and crippling legislation and reaffirm collectively their devotion to American Constitutional values.

But there is no Tea Party, there is no Conservative Party, and there is no Liberal Party.  We have basically a two-party political system, the Democrats and the Republicans.  All other ‘parties’ act as spoilers in political elections.  Third party candidates end up swaying election results as to hurt the very people they were hoping to help: themselves.  They split the vote.  Witness two past presidential election votes in which Ross Perot split the Republican vote, awarding both elections to the Democrat, Bill Clinton.  Ralph Nader has been a thorn in the Democrats’ side with his Green Party…or is it the Peace & Freedom Party…or was it the Nutjobs & Pudwhacks for Mindless Change Party, I don’t remember.  Anyway… There is no Tea ‘Party’.

But there is a Libertarian Party. (more…)

Meet Some of the People Jon Stewart Trashes as Bigots

by John Nolte

When Mr. Funny Clownface Man tars Ground Zero Mosque opponents as ignorant bigots, here are some of the people Mr. Stewart includes in that superior, thoughtless snark. These are also the people Nancy Pelosi would like to see investigated:

—–

As these awful leftists preen with a moral superiority they think they’ve discovered in a new-found respect for religious rights, these same moral cowards never mention the victims of 9/11 or the families of the victims who oppose this mosque. Well, at least not by name. But every time these demagogues lash out at Ground Zero Mosque opponents as bigots or anything else, the 9/11 families are the collateral damage in their unforgivably divisive, hateful and racially-charged demagoguery.

Tonight: Obama Hits Up Hollywood’s A-List for Cash

by Hollywoodland

As the quote from Love Story goes, “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” If you subscribe to that philosophy, it will come as no surprise that while Americans continue to sour on President Obama (his approval ratings continue on a collision course with the 30s), there is still one place he can always depend on for free love and fast cash: Hollywood.  One of the most romantic couples of our time has a big date tonight.  From Reuters:

Obama Affleck

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – When President Obama took to the stage at a Beverly Hilton ballroom on May 27, 2009, to raise money for the Democratic National Committee, it was a victory lap of sorts for the 250 studio executives, directors and stars who had paid $15,200 apiece to dine on kabachi ravioli as they listened to their newly elected leader.

“If it weren’t for you, we would not be in the White House,” the president told DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg, going on to recognize the deep pockets of other showbiz contributors who had put millions into his campaign coffers.

Tonight, a little more than a year later, Obama arrives in Hollywood again to meet and greet industry heavy hitters. This time, the feelings of many in the crowd are more complicated. Obama has faced criticism from the left about unfulfilled campaign promises ranging from the closure of Gitmo to the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. (more…)

I Met Arizona Quang

GetAttachment

Prescott, AZ July 25, 2010.

I find myself in a storybook Town Square.  A perfect pillared 1800’s courthouse surrounded by ancient trees and a Sound Of Music gazebo. Across the street is The Palace, a famous bar that people like Wyatt Earp haunted back in the Gold Rush days. A giant poster of Junior Bonner starring Steve McQueen proves the movie was shot in this bar.  I do a handstand in front of the Old West re-enactors.

(I have a Handstand Collection: photos of me holding a handstand in every city I’ve ever visited since childhood.)

Victorian houses dot the hills and the Arizona sunset sucks me in. I am sunk. I love Prescott. They all warned me I wouldn’t want to leave.

I just did a radio show with the nicest man, Dr. Terry Lovell.  I sang him my “There’s a Communist Living in the White House” song. He hadn’t heard it yet. (more…)

Sunbathing Naked (Day Two)

by Victoria Jackson

I’m sunbathing naked again.  No one can see me.  Just birds and bees.  And red ants. And God.

I guess I’ll have to move back to FL.  I love LA. But, my family needs me in FL. I don’t seem to be getting many acting roles. Maybe this deep tan will help.  I squish a big, red ant with my shoe.  I wipe the sweat mixed with sun block from my under eyes and pick up my paperback of “Mere Christianity.”  I have a stack of books next to my arm, near my Coffee Nips.  Nick Popaditch’s book, “Once a Marine,” and Frank Pastori’s “Shattered.”  I used to read the Tabloids a lot but none of my friends are in them anymore…just reality stars I don’t recognize. I’m listening for the UPS man.  I really don’t want him to see me.  “Big, fat, ex-SNL star sunbathing naked!”

King Obama is trying to eliminate Freedom of Speech by silencing conservative talk radio, TV and Internet.  His plan involves fees and fines. I’ve done research.  The Federal Trade Commission had a conference last month where they decided to “Redefine Journalism.”  Their plan is to have the Government pay the salary of journalists.  This will ensure complete control of the media. Yikes!  Kerry and Pelosi think the (Un) Fairness Doctrine could do this.  Mark Lloyd, Diversity Czar (whatever that is?!) way back in 2007 started encouraging small groups to protest local conservative radio stations by accusing programs like Rush and Hannity of “hate speech that incites violence”!  A group called CCAM in Fresno just obeyed this command

I can’t keep up with him.

King Obama bribed his Socialized Medicine disaster through Congress and destroyed the greatest medical system in the world.

I can’t keep up with him.

King Obama is insidiously creeping into my very own personal life.  I don’t have health insurance anymore because of lack of work. Last month, I was shocked to see a TV commercial about Obama Health Insurance. It strangely said that there was a 2,000 caller a day limit?!  I called the number out of curiosity/research.  The recording said that the 2,000 quota had been reached.  After two days, this commercial disappeared, but yesterday I got an email from King Obama offering me Government health insurance.  I felt sick to my stomach.  I won’t even take unemployment checks, based on the principal of the thing.  But…I did start thinking…what if I need … help…someday…I shuddered…NO!  NO!  Go Away!!  I will not succumb to your sneaky attempts at turning me Communist!   (more…)

Daily Gut: Our Precious Obama Succeeds With Failure

by Greg Gutfeld

So that weird sound you’re hearing right now is the collective hand-wringing of liberals both in government and in media, who can’t help but fret as the Great One’s poll numbers drop like an ACME safe on their enormous expectations.

And so the Politico website ruminates over the tragic contrast between Obama’s real achievements and our country’s growing disappointment in him.

obama-golf2-415x275

They point out that Obama has “moved swiftly toward achieving the very policy objectives he promised voters as a candidate,” which to me, is EXACTLY why we can’t stand him now.

Look at the comprehensive health care bill. It pleased the media – but for the rest of us? We got duped. (more…)

Daily Gut: Health Care for Those Too Creative to Pay for it Themselves

by Greg Gutfeld

So last Wednesday, Nancy Pelosi was speaking at some DC summit, where she noted that – because of the new health-care reform law – musicians and artists could quit their jobs and pursue their dreams, because now the rest of us will be footing the bill for their urinary tract infections.

Here’s the gasbag, now, gasbagging:

—–

“We see it as an entrepreneurial bill – a bill that says to someone, if you want to be creative and be a musician or whatever, you can leave your work, focus on your talent, your skill, your passion, your aspirations because you will have health care.”

So, to put it plainly: If you want to play your guitar in the subway, no worries – we’ll supply your health care. If you want to join a death metal barbershop quartet that plays everything on a children’s xylophone- that’s cool too. If you want to freeze-dry your feces, jar it, and call it an indictment on the Bush regime, relax, you daring artist – we’ll pay for your pink eye. (more…)

Mom: What?!

Vicki: When Bush was President they called him horrible names, every day on TV; they even made a movie about him getting shot.  No one was afraid.  That was America; a rude, disrespectful, mean America, but a Free one.  Now, we are actually afraid of the Government, and…

Barack Obama’s Helter-Skelter, Insane Clown Posse, Alinsky Plans to ‘Deconstruct’ America

by Andrew Breitbart

UPDATE: The bounty is now $100,000 for any audio/video footage of the N-word being hurled at Congressmen John Lewis and Andre Carson.

***

After 14 months of committing 100% to health care reform, the day after the signing of the Health Care bill was to mark the Democratic Party’s new primary concern: destroy the uprising, annihilate by all means necessary, the Tea Party movement.

The first sign that a plan was in place was the ham-fisted, high-camp posturing of the most controversial members of the Democratic caucus walking through the peaceful but animated “Tea Party” demonstrators on Capitol Hill. There is no reason for these elected officials to walk above ground through the media circus amid their ideological foes. The natural route is the tunnels between the House office buildings and the Capitol. By crafting a highly symbolic walk of the Congressional Black Caucus through the majority white crowd, the Democratic Party was looking to provoke a negative reaction. They didn’t get it. So they made it up.

The proof that the N-word wasn’t said once, let alone 15 times, as Rep. Andre Carson claimed, is that soon thereafter — even though the press dutifully reported it as truth — Nancy Pelosi followed the alleged hate fest, which allegedly included someone spitting, by walking through the crowd with a gavel in hand and a shit-eating grin on her face. Had the incidents reported by the Congressional Black Caucus actually occurred the Capitol Police would have been negligent to allow the least popular person to that crowd – the Speaker – to put herself in harm’s way.

That crowd was a sea of new-media equipment. Not only were tens of thousands people armed with handicams, BlackBerrys and iPods, so also was the mainstream media there, covering every inch of the event. Why did not one mainstream media outlet raise the specter that perhaps a video would exist to prove the events occurred? I am still dealing with the same press telling me we didn’t prove that ACORN was aiding and abetting criminal activity because we “did not provide enough audio and video evidence.” (Insert laugh track.) Is there not a blatant double standard at play here? Nancy Pelosi tipped her hand that race was a central part of her strategy. She invoked the Civil Rights Act and compared it with the universally reviled health care bill. Her caucus is doubling down on the civil-rights rhetoric. There are no coincidences.

Daily Gut: The Joy of Intolerance

by Greg Gutfeld

So our nation’s top high school paper, USA Today, just published a big poll on all things political. The conclusion: Americans hate everything.

They are, in a word, hatist.

For example, the favorable rating for Democrats has dwindled to 41% – the lowest since Gallup began asking the question nearly two decades ago -and its standing has dropped 14 points since the Great One’s election. That makes us shamefully Democrat-ist.

ohnoes

Also, 50% say the O-man doesn’t deserve re-election. According my figures, that’s half. But I’ll double check. (Yep, it’s half). That means half of America is not simply racist, but also Obama-ist, and electionist, two words I just made up and will tattoo on my thighs.

Meanwhile, three out of four folks say they are dissatisfied with the country’s direction. Three out of four. And they aren’t even dentists – but they are directionist. They make me sick to my stomach. I hate my stomach. I am stomachist. It blocks the view when I’m standing over a mirror. (more…)

‘Generation Zero’ Premieres in Los Angeles

by David Bossie

This article was co-authored by Stephen K. Bannon.

This week, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released a report on President Obama’s 2011 budget that ought to shock every single American.  According to the CBO, the federal government’s debt, which was $56,000 per-household at the beginning of President Obama’s tenure one year ago, has risen to $72,000 per-household today, and is expected to skyrocket to $170,000 per-household by 2020.  Should the CBO’s estimates prove accurate, the federal debt would represent 90% of the Gross Domestic Product of the United States in less than 10 years.

—–

For some incomprehensible reason, Washington politicians have their heads planted firmly in the sand and refuse to acknowledge the looming disaster.  Instead of addressing the problem, last week, with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid looking on approvingly, President Obama signed a nearly $1 trillion health care bill into law.  We’ve gotten to a point that 65% of Americans believe that the federal debt is the greatest threat to America’s future.

But we did not accumulate a $12 trillion dollar debt overnight. This is not a problem that can be laid solely at the Obama Administration’s feet, nor is it entirely the fault of the free spending Congress led by Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid.  America’s problems go far deeper than the policies of one administration – they are a result of a systemic rot that has eaten away at the financial foundation of our economy for decades.  It is the class of elite incumbents – politicians, bankers, and academics alike – that were reared in the self-indulgent 1960’s and who came to power in the 1990’s that have led us to the brink.  (more…)

Stand Ups for America: Fight the Power With Ridicule

by Tim Slagle

I couldn’t believe what happened in the People’s House. It was like getting socked in the gut, all the wind was knocked right out of me. We tried everything to get the Congress to hear to us: letters, emails, faxes, and phone calls, and they just wouldn’t listen.

2010_fight_the_power_poster-p228727554689899904trma_400

So we surrounded the Capitol on the morning of the vote. Rather than using the secure underground private subway taxpayers have graciously provided for their security, our “Representatives” arrogantly and defiantly marched right through the protest, just daring someone to step out of line. For the first time in my life, I fear for the future of this country, the last great hope of man.

I still don’t know how the Bill passed. Perhaps it had something to do with Nancy Pelosi saying a prayer to St. Joseph. It was probably so long since he heard from her, that he moved her priority straight to the front of the line. Of course, in her anxious haste, Nancy must have forgotten that St. Joseph is the Saint you pray to when you’re trying to get rid of the House. (I think we’re ALL onboard with that prayer.) (more…)

Daily Gut: Daddy Got Us a Pony!

by Greg Gutfeld

So what did we learn this weekend? That the health care reform bill is such a big idea that it doesn’t matter what’s in it. It’s such a big idea, in fact, that that’s all those dopes voted for – the idea. Because they really don’t know what’s in the bill anyway. They couldn’t have – it’s 2,700 pages. This was, essentially, a “yes” vote on Shangri-la.

obama_pony_jpg

The argument was never about health care. It was about whether America can survive when strapped with another massive entitlement program, one in which we’ve been deceived about cost. Essentially Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama (Obamalosi, for short) looked at our crumbling economy, weighed down by three massive entitlement programs (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid), and thought: let’s have a fourth. Let’s go all in on unfunded entitlements.

The worst part? The lies. Seriously: How can anyone say this is going to save money?

I wanna show you a graph from Nick Gillespie’s great piece at Reason.com. (more…)

ObamaCare: A Good Night For Tyranny

by Gary Graham

But it was a bad night for Liberty.

Oh man.  I didn’t want to write a blog today.  Damn those Dems.  (And a special F-U to you twits who voted them in.)   A bad night for Liberty.

obamacare

But it was a good night for Chicago politics.  It’s nice to know some things never change; that back-room arm-twisting, extortion, blackmail, bribes, and pay-offs can still work wonders when applied judiciously by Leftists Speakers of the House, Presidents (and their hatchet men), and Senate leaders.   Even ‘principled’ Democrats like pro-life Rep Bart Stupak folded like a proud jellyfish. (Any stupidly spineless act of Congress will henceforth be regarded as “a Stupak” as in, “Looks like those idiots on The Hill pulled another Stupak!”)

Yes, Lady Liberty took a serious kick in the teeth last night.  The health care bill will put one-sixth of the U.S. economy in the hands of the federal government.   But even worse than assisting further in the bankrupting of our economy, our freedoms are now seriously diminished.

We Americans became considerably less free last night. (more…)
