Sarah Silverman Goes Full Garofalo

by Hollywoodland

Look out, Janeane Garofalo, someone’s gunning for your crown as the goofiest liberal celebrity.

Comedian Sarah Silverman didn’t start out as a politically charged stand-up. But lately she seems eager to shift her shtick from the pretty girl who talks dirty to the comedian eager to carry water for the erroneous Left.

—–

Silverman recently appeared on MSNBC’s ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ to promote ‘Live from [N-Word]head,’ a comedy show meant to mock Texas Gov. Rick Perry for his scandalous ranch connection. Too bad nobody told Silverman the charge has already been debunked and is simply part of the mainstream media’s attempt to discredit yet another Republican.

Here’s Silverman pontificating on the importance of keeping the racist meme alive:

Hollywood One-Percenter Russell Simmons: ‘I Don’t Pay Taxes’

by John Nolte

Obviously feeling the sting from those of us who have pointed out that there’s a very simple way to fulfill your own burning desire to pay more in taxes, gazillionaire Russell Simmons tried to explain his way out of that with this nonsense:

The conservatives always say to me, would I, why don’t I just write a check for more taxes.  … Well, no, I won’t give my money to war machine and to other things, but if it will help the education and the health care for people who are locked out, of course I want to pay more taxes.

Oh, so that’s the hold up. He only wants to pay more taxes if those taxes are directed towards what he believes in. Unfortunately, that is not how taxes work and you can bet Simmons know this. But he lacks the moral courage to speak the truth and say he doesn’t want to pay more taxes.  Furthermore, a gift to the Treasury doesn’t fund anything. It helps to pay down the national debt. So Simmons doesn’t even have his facts straight.

Hit PLAY and hold your nose. The hypocrisy is strong with this one:

—–

What a weaselly, pathetic excuse.

And naturally this raging hypocrite wouldn’t dream of giving the rest of us the choice of where our taxes go to, because I can assure you that all of mine would be directed towards the “war machine” and not a penny would go towards a drug of dependency known as welfare.

Jon Stewart Hammers Ed Schultz’s Race-Baiting Deceptive Edit

by Hollywoodland

—–

This NBC News deceptive edit had just started to take off in the left-wing mainstream media when Breitbart.TV’s Editor-in-Chief Larry O’Connor revealed the full context of the quote and stopped the smear in its tracks.

By the way, jobless claims are up this week to 408,000, and a concerned President Obama has just interrupted his vacation to release this statement from Martha’s Vineyard…

Coulter Rules ‘Real Time’; Why Doesn’t She Have Her Own Show?

by Alexander Marlow

Anyone who caught “Real Time” this past weekend got to enjoy some great television.  Much like the boss (and much unlike your average buttoned-up conservative), Ann Coulter thrives in a political environment where there’s an emphasis on entertainment, humor, and thinking on your feet.  If you’ve read her books or seen enough of her speeches and media appearances, you know she’s easily funnier than you average Hollywood or New York “comedian.”

Credit where it’s due, as usual, to Maher and co. for having her on.  “Real Time” continues to be the only liberal-leaning late-night current events/comedy show eager to engage articulate conservative commentators.

Here are some highlights, starting with Coulter telling MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that his mother, who has a government job, “is a drain on society”:

Next is a long chunk of the round-table discussion where Maher and Coulter’s sardonic repartee takes center-stage.  This is an act they could take on the road (UPDATE: Apparently they have):

Breitbart to Appear in Sorkin’s HBO Pilot; MSNBC Nixes Matthews’s Cameo

by Hollywoodland

UPDATE: After Chris Matthews backed out, the creators of the show decided they would take this scene in a different direction that doesn’t feature known pundits.  Sorkin and his team expressed interest in having Breitbart on in a future episode, should the show go to series.

***

There has been some speculation over the last 24 hours that Andrew Breitbart will be making an appearance as himself in Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming HBO project “More As This Story Develops,” and that is indeed the case.  “More,” which will star Jeff Daniels, is a dramatic pilot based on the world of cable news.  Originally, Breitbart was to be in a debate scene opposite MSNBC anchor Chris Matthew, but MSNBC has squelched Matthew’s participation.  New York Magazine reports (emphasis mine):

Vulture hears that plans for Matthews to shoot a roundtable debate scene in Develops alongside conservative muckracker/ Weiner-eater Andrew Breitbart have had to be scrapped because, according to a production insider, Matthews’s bosses at MSNBC nixed the idea.

It’s not like MSNBC has a blanket no-scripted-programming order for their anchors: Matthews played an MSNBC reporter two years ago in the Russell Crowe pic State of Play. And a guest spot on Sorkin’s show would likely be good for publicity; assuming it goes to series, Develops will likely boast an audience filled with the sort of left-leaning smarties targeted by the news-and-opinion network. So what was the problem? Our spy speculates that even though Sorkin’s ideology meshes with MSNBC’s, the network’s brass may have taken issue with the way More portrays the world of cable news and its corporate culture.[...]  (UPDATE: Our source has further elaborated to us that MSNBC also didn’t like the fact that parts of the show seemed to be skewering left-leaning media.)

NY Mag describes the lead character, an anchor to be played by Daniels, as “a passionate, liberal Keith Olbermann–esque character.” (more…)

The New Blacklist: Rachel Maddow Declares ‘Witchhunt’ Against Huckabee Animators

by John Nolte

—–

Rachel Maddow’s closing remarks in this segment are nothing short of obscene:

“We asked [Huckabee's production company] today who had done the animation on these DVDs.  They would not tell us.  If you know who brought this amazing animated sauce to life, please get in touch with us.  We would like to know.”

Maddow might couch her unholy request in that chirpy, kindergarten teacher voice, but the venom is 100% pure.  The hypocrisy, however, is 150%.

Read the quote again closely. Maddow already knows the name of the production company, but right after decrying the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s, she demands the production company — wait for it, wait for it — name names. And because they refuse to name names, Maddow then weaponizes her own audience to witchunt up those names on her behalf.

Why?

‘Atlas Shrugged’ Producers: The Ad MSNBC, CNBC & CNN Refuse to Air

by John Nolte

If you remember, in my exclusive story yesterday regarding the future of the “Atlas Shrugged” trilogy, we learned the following:

The most interesting development, however, is that in their effort to expand television advertising, MSNBC, CNN and CNBC “have all rejected a 15-second ad for ‘editorial’ reasons [with] no further explanation provided.”

“This unforeseen censorship effectively puts the brakes on our follow-up marketing efforts where we were trying to reach millions of people unaware of the movie being in theaters now,” Kaslow wrote. “We are continuing with the theatrical release because we have great word of mouth and awareness for the movie increases daily.”

Just a few minutes ago, the producers were good enough to send along a YouTube of the rejected ad with this note: “Here’s the ad.  It’s very simple and certainly in no way offensive[.]”

Hollywood Propaganda Time: Spike Lee and MSNBC Sittin’ In a Tree…

by John Nolte

You watch a few of these new “Lean Forward” ads and the approach becomes obvious, director Spike Lee and MSNBC are hoping to fool people into thinking  they’re all about ”The People,” “The  Kids,” and “The America.” An extreme left-wing message stewed in Hollywood magic for that home-grown, down-home, God-Bless-America flavor.

But if you look closely, what we’re being told is that it’s patriotic to take away people’s liberties with ObamaCare, truly American to spend our children and grandchildren into oblivion, and wholesome to punish prosperity.

In a nutshell: Government-enforced equality over individual liberty is baseball, hot dogs, mom, and apple pie!

This is all about 2012, folks. All about couching Obama’s extremist message and failed policies into something the independents he lost in 2010 can tolerate.  Everyone together now: Thanks Hollywood!

But this isn’t 2008 and we are on to you this time.

Only the LSM* Could Spin Into a Negative Andrew Breitbart’s Desire to See Sarah Palin Command Pop Culture

by John Nolte

Though notorious for my lousy memory, anyone who’s ever shared this experience will understand why I’ll never forget my first phone call with Andrew Breitbart. It’s hard to believe almost three years have passed so quickly, but I do remember the conversation like it was yesterday. At the time I was trying to squeak out a living at a website of my own that was pretty much devoted to my vision-less complaining about the terrible effect left-wing politics was having on my beloved motion picture industry. On a good day, I maybe got 5,000 hits but things were so financially dire that something had to give — and by “something had to give,” I mean, “I was a month away from going back to bill collecting.”

Then the email came: Please call me. *phone number* –Andrew Breitbart.

I knew of Andrew and had only met him very briefly once before but that day we talked for over two hours and if I were smarter, anything close to charismatic, and capable of being a visionary, it would’ve been like talking to myself. By that time I had already been trying to sound the alarm about what was happening in Hollywood for nearly three years. Certainly there were people who appreciated it, but 5,000 hits a day does not a movement make. But here was this guy on the other end of the phone speaking about it with more passion and insight than I had ever heard before: This is about America. This is about a blacklist. This is about a diversity of opinion at the pop culture table. This is about my kids. This is about truth, justice, and the American way. Out of anyone else’s mouth this would’ve sounded corny as hell, but from Andrew it sounded like The Ramones had entered the building.

So there was that, and then there was the vision. A media empire of BIG sites. Over ten of them: Big Government, Big Journalism, Big Peace, Big Education, Big Israel, and my personal favorite, Big Soros. But it would have to start with Big Hollywood, he said, because nothing was more important than the culture. If you couldn’t win a seat at the table of pop culture, the others won’t matter. Everything is downstream from Hollywood — and not just politics. Hollywood shapes our children, our country, and most importantly, it shapes how the world sees our country. Unless we gain a foothold on that beach, the rest of the invasion will fail.

Liberal-Run HBO’s Latest Target: Dick Cheney

by Tim Ross

HBO just can’t help themselves.  Less than two weeks after the pay television giant announced Julianne Moore, 50, will play a 43 year old Sarah Palin during the 2008 Presidential election, the network announced its intentions to make another anti-GOP movie based on the 2008 Barton Gellman book, Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency as well as The Dark Side, a 2006 documentary which aired on Frontline, a PBS public affairs series.

There is no argument that Gellman’s book casts a very dark and negative shadow over Republican Vice President, Dick Cheney.  His own website describes the book as taking on “the full scope of Cheney’s work and its consequences, including his hidden role in the Bush administration’s most fateful choices in war: shifting focus from al Qaeda to Iraq, unleashing the National Security Agency to spy at home, and promoting ‘cruel and inhuman methods of interrogation.”  If you didn’t know any better, you might think that description fits a member of the KGB, or even the Gestapo.

The Dark Side, not to be confused with the UK horror film publication or as the general concept of evil in the Star Wars universe or the anthology horror TV series produced by George A. Romero or the DC comics super-villain, no The Dark Side is a documentary produced by David Fanning and Michael Kirk of Frontline.  The title of the documentary perverts a quote from Cheney a few days after the 9/11 attacks in which he stated that in order to defend America against future Osama bin Laden and al Queda attacks, we would have to work “sort of the dark side, if you will,” because, “That’s the world these folks operate in…” and depicts the struggle between the CIA and the vice president and how Cheney was the chief architect of the war on terror and invasion of Iraq.

Sucker Punch Squad: Script for Aaron Sorkin’s HBO Show Exalts ‘Olbermann’

by Pam Meister

Editor’s note: Script reviews of upcoming projects have been around for as long as there’s been an Internet. Therefore it’s no secret that a film can evolve into something quite different from its screenplay. Please keep in mind that this article represents a look at a particular script and not the final product.

When BH editor John Nolte asked me if I wanted to take a peek at the pilot script for Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming HBO series about the drama behind the scenes on a cable news network, I said “Yes!” without hesitation. Word on the street was that the main character was based on MSNBC’s recently dethroned Keith Olbermann, and I was curious: Would “Olbermann” be raked over the coals or treated as a media icon?

I’ll get to the answer in a few.

The show, which is as yet unnamed, takes place behind the scenes of News Night with Will McCallister, a show broadcast by the fictitious United Broadcasting Systems. Will McCallister is the pseudo-Olbermann clone who knows a lot about sports, can’t be bothered to remember the names of his staffers, and can’t seem to hold on to an executive producer (E.P.) for longer than 14 weeks. In fact, in the show’s opener, Will is given the unhappy news that his current E.P. Don has elected to join Will’s protégé, who has just been given his own show, and Don is taking most of the production staff with him.

Amongst the few junior staffers who are still on Will’s team are Maggie, Steve and Neal. Maggie and Steve are involved romantically, even though such fraternization amongst co-workers is discouraged, and the relationship is not going well.

Even worse is the news that Will’s boss Charlie Skinner, who is the president of the cable news division, has gone behind Will’s back and replaced Don with Mackenzie MacHale, a top-notch producer whose own chance at on-air stardom at a rival network fizzled and who is now in need of a job.

Is Jon Stewart Spreading Misinformation About Teachers’ Pay Cuts and Fox News?

by John Nolte

***UPDATE: Sorry Lefties, but when the price goes up on something a teacher buys voluntarily, it’s not a pay cut — even if it’s benefits. I also saw the full video and discovered that Stewart is specifically talking about WI, so his stating that pay cuts and benefit cuts are on the table is provably false. That’s not a part of the plan in WI, nor is anyone calling for it.

-

Does anyone understand what Jon Stewart’s talking about in that video? Because what he’s saying sounds like total misinformation to me.

Here are the direct quotes:

Sarcastically: “We the taxpayers have a right to cut teachers salaries and benefits. They work for us.”

“I wonder how how those same people who would have the government limit teacher pay and benefits would feel about the government limiting CEO pay at taxpayer bailed out firms.”

Unless another state besides Wisconsin is doing something I’m unaware of, I know of NO ONE, not a single soul talking about cutting or limiting teachers pay or benefits. And if you notice in his Fox News clips, there’s not a single clip of a single Fox News personality in favor of cutting or limiting teachers’ pay or benefits, either. So where is this narrative coming? Where is this “Evil Righties Want to Cut Teachers’ Pay” coming from? It certainly isn’t coming from Wisconsin, and judging by his own clips, it certainly isn’t coming from anyone at Fox News.

In other words, all this talk about cutting teachers pay is coming only from Stewart. He’s filling in his own blanks!

Interview: James Hudnall Speaks-Out on The Left’s Cartoon-Like Charge of Racism

by Larry O'Connor

“Racist!” It almost seems that a critic of the policies and agenda of President Obama hasn’t really arrived in the big time until someone screams this hateful slur at them. Think about it: Is there a single, effective communicator of conservative ideas in America today who hasn’t been called a racist? Rush, Beck, O’Reilly, Hannity, and of course, Breitbart. If you believe the defenders of social welfare ideals of this administration you’ll believe that every bit of reasoned opposition to the left is rooted in the same values that brought us Jim Crow.

The latest victims of this scandalous slur are Big Hollywood’s own James Hudnall and Baton Lash. Their weekly political cartoon Obama Nation” was singled out by the totalitarian thought police at Media Matters and labeled racist. They never really spelled out exactly WHY the cartoon poking fun at the hypocrisy of the First Family’s Super Bowl menu juxtaposed with Mrs. Obama’s far-reaching “Nutrition Agenda” was racist, but it doesn’t matter: If the Media Matters says you’re racist, that’s good enough for MSNBC.

Dutifully, Lawrence O’Donnell took Media Matter’s article on the subject and turned it into an epic monologue that most of us were sure was satire. Turns out, O’Donnell is not nearly creative enough to have pulled off such a feat.

Racial McCarthyism: MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell Screams ‘Racist’ to Intimidate Artistic Political Opposition

by James Hudnall and Batton Lash

When reality-impaired MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell decided to call Batton Lash and myself racists on national television, we received a steady stream of death threats and viscous hate mail, which I detail here.

The whole thing brings up memories of the threats on the Danish Cartoonists who mocked the prophet Muhammad, or the threats Molly Norris received when she came up with the idea for Everyone Draw Muhammad Day. In both of those cases, the cartoons were mild but they inspired mindless fanatics to threatened the cartoonists with death. Now we have poor man’s Keith Olbermann inciting mob frenzy.

The same Lawrence O’Donnell who recently showed his racial sensitivity when he said about former Republican Chairman Michael Steele:

“He’s dancing as fast as he can, trying to charm independent voters and Tea Partiers while never losing sight of his real master and paycheck provider, the Republican National Committee.”

This is the mental munchkin who called us “mentally disturbed racists” and went so far as tell people where we lived, who our spouses are and suggested they confront us. He’s like a gender impaired metro-sexual Mullah calling for a fatwa on unbelievers. Bad move, Larry. These creators aren’t going into hiding after your psychotic tirade.

I’ve been so hard on Jon Stewart lately that it felt dishonest not to post what is objectively a truly clever and very funny skewering of MSNBC. And I post this well aware that everyone’s going to accuse me of only liking Stewart when he attacks the other side, which happens to be mostly true. In my mind, Stewart is no different from a Lawrence O’Donnell or Chris Matthews and so if he unfairly attacks one of our own, I’m going to fight back. But if he goes after one of his own you can bet that I’m going to sit back and savor every moment.

Feel free to sue me, but be sure to enjoy the video first.

And if Stewart isn’t enough fun for you, Keith Olbermann’s obviously wounded feelings might help to fill that gap:

Richard Dreyfuss Promotes the Kind of Civility Where Wishing Cheney Dead is Okay

by AWR Hawkins

Over the past two years, Academy Award-winner Richard Dreyfuss has undertaken a campaign for civility in political discourse. To aide in achieving this civility, he launched the Dreyfuss Initiative in 2010, the proximate of goal of which was to promote “a…diverse variety of websites representing disparate political opinions… to foster a discussion related to the future of America.” (His stated goals for a revival of civility even reach into K-12 classrooms, for which he is personally designing a curriculum to ignite students’ interest in Civics once more.)

Oh yes, and I almost forgot to mention that he sees nothing uncivil about the fact that MSNBC’s Ed Schultz wishes that former Vice President Dick Cheney would die.

That’s right: When recently asked about comments Schultz made in March 2009, wherein Schultz called Cheney an “enemy of the country” and prayed that God would soon whisk him away to “the Promised Land,” Dreyfus said the words were “beautifully phrased.” (Moreover, Hollywood’s self-proclaimed crusader for civility is on record saying that when he prepared to play Cheney in the movie “W.,” he did so by searching his own heart to find “villainy in the world.”)

It’s kind of discombobulating isn’t it? First, Dreyfuss bemoans lacks of civility in political discourse so he founds the Dreyfuss Initiative to help foster civility in our discourse again. Secondly, he bemoans the diminished study of Civics, which he views as a basis for civility, thus he forges a curriculum to restore the study of Civics (and therefore promote civility). Finally, he then calls Cheney a villain and says that Schultz’s prayers for Cheney’s death were “beautifully phrased.” (more…)

Olbermann: Just Another Cash-Hungry Capitalist

by Greg Gutfeld

So just like me, MSNBC had an irritating organ removed from its lower midsection.

Yes, Keith Olbermann is gone.

So people are obviously wondering – who’s going to replace Olby?

My suggestion: the great Brian Dunkleman.

He is an American treasure.

Now, there’s much conjecture behind Keith’s exit. Some say it’s ideology – that Comcast wanted to rid MSNBC of it’s left-leaning furniture. If that’s true, then they only lost a tattered end of a sectional.

But others say it’s cash – since Olby is the kind of guy whose salary will never be enough – if there’s someone else making more.

It’s the old, “I only walk taller if my neighbor is limping” sort of thing.

Anyway, it’s odd for a progressive to be so enamored by competition. And cash. I suppose as long as your motives are Chomsky-approved, you’re an exception to your own rules. Things like basic politeness don’t apply – as long as you only care about my money.

I call this the Sean Penn rule, named after my buddy Sean who went to Penn state.

If Black People Own Guns and Michael Moore Says Gun Owners are Racists…?

by Steven Crowder

Michael Moore is a greedy, lying, hypocritical sack of ferret excrement. Tell you something you don’t know? Alright. Even worse, it now appears that he’s an unintelligent man.

It’s no secret that I’ve never been a fan of Moore’s, but I’ve often said that the last thing I’d call the man is “stupid.” Afterall, a man who cons Americans into paying $9.99 at the local Cineplex only to watch him sermonize on the evils of capitalism must be one of rapier wit. One would think that either he’s a clever graduate from the school of Andy Kaufman, or he’s the embodiment of pure evil held back a grade from the kindergarten of Michael Meyers.

As it seems now, he’s neither of those.  It’s becoming more and more glaringly apparent that the man is dumb. Pure and simple. In a recent interview with MSNBC’s Richard Maddow, Michael Moore stated that people own guns because they are racist. He prefaced his comments with this:

“Everybody’s packing there… everybody has guns. Yet they all said that we have a very low gun murder rate here in Tuscon.  So why do you have a gun then?”

Ummm… How about, so that the gun murder rate remains low?

I’d never pictured Michael Moore as being so dense that he could answer his own question without tasting the irony. Gelatinous yes, but dense a good filmmaker does not make. (more…)

Michael Moore Quotes Gun-Owning Martin Luther King to Make Anti-Gun Argument

by Hollywoodland

—–

Dear Michael Moore, just a friendly heads up that the same Martin Luther King you’re quoting to make your nonsensical anti-gun argument, is the same Martin Luther King who — wait for it, wait for it — owned guns!

UCLA Law Professor Adam Winkler, via Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit:

King applied for a concealed carry permit in Alabama. The local police had discretion to determine who was a suitable person to carry firearms. King, a clergyman whose life was threatened daily, surely met the requirements of the law, but he was rejected nevertheless. At the time, the police used any wiggle room in the law to discriminate against African Americans.

Glenn Reynolds closes with this: Give the authorities discretion, and it will be abused.

Remember everyone, there are only certain parts of the Bill of Rights the Left is in favor of. They can shove Freedom of Speech all the way over to allowing the New York Times to print national security leaks while we’re at war and find the right to abortion in a non-existent right to privacy, but this whole Right to Bear Arms thing remains fuzzy and therefore negotiable.
