I once suggested to Big Hollywood editor John Nolte that to draw a tidal wave of comments we needed to somehow figure out a piece where I simultaneously attack birthers, praise Sarah Palin, and raise issues involving Star Trek.  Now, I guess I’d have to somehow work in drug legalization, too.

The tsunami hit in the wake of my recent column on Sting, Soros and their pro-drug partnership, which both cast doubt on the sacred truths of the very vocal drug legalization fans and defied George Soros.  Accordingly, I had to be stopped.  What happened next tells us much about the tactics, techniques and procedures we will come up against fighting for our culture – and how we can fight back.

The counter-attack came first came in the form of over 400 angry comments from drug legalizers (oh, sorry – “decrimminalizers”) and bong-fueled Twitter tweets from hemp-focused lay-abouts.  Next came columns by Huffington Post nonentities and other dope-o-centric fellow travelers.  Topping it off came at least one semi-veiled threat.  (more…)

Anyone who smoked a joint in the ‘70s was also likely aware of Cheech and Chong. The counter-cultural comedy superstars smoked and toked their way through nine albums, four feature films and thousands of concerts worldwide – offering living proof that stoners could also be ambitious and hard workers if given the right incentives, i.e., money, women and weed.

But eventually the laughs started to fade, and with the Reagan White House constantly touting its War on Drugs and overtaking the nation’s airwaves with incessant “Just Say No” sloganeering, even Robert “Cheech” Marin and Tommy Chong lost their buzz and decided to split up. In the past 25 years since that ignoble occurrence, which also signified the end of their friendship for nearly two decades. Cheech’s career has taken him far into the mainstream with major roles on network TV hits like “Nash Bridges” and “Lost,” while Chong wound up serving time in federal prison on highly questionable paraphernalia-distribution charges.

Now they’re back, revived and ready to roll (no pun intended) with a new DVD called “Hey Watch This!” and plans for not only a sequel to their most famous film “Up in Smoke” but a nearly-completed animated film as well. The DVD – which depicts on-stage and behind-the-scenes highlights of the duo’s 2009-2010 worldwide concert tour – is a means of reclaiming their status as the greatest pot-related comedy act of all time. It’s no coincidence that the tour was a smash hit, opening many doors for them to make a mark in the nation’s current medical marijuana and pot-legalization debates. (more…)

I should say right off the bat that I can’t just blame Brad Pitt. The plague of closed-mindedness permeates every corner of Hollywood… Brad Pitt just happens to be the one who’s most recently crystallized it so perfectly. Much like the time Megan Fox tipped Tinseltown’s hand when she said that if given the chance, she’d urge Megatron to only murder the “white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super bible-beating people in Middle America,” Brad Pitt had a tongue-slip with his anti-Christian comment this weekend. However, I must give credit where credit’s due folks: he made the comment on the Bill Maher show. It takes guts to take such a stance on that program. Doesn’t at least a part of you admire his moral fortitude?

To start with, Brad Pitt said that he was thinking of running for mayor of New Orleans, on an “Anti-religion, pro-legalization of marijuana and pro-gay marriage” platform. I know, I know… What a risky position to take in Tinseltown, right?

After Brads continued “anti-religion” commentary, Bill Maher decided to step up the game with his uniquely hateful brand of bigotry that’s made him oh so popular with 13-year-old atheists everywhere. In a display of “compassion,” Pitt went on to say, “Well I don’t think any Christians watch this show anyway.” (more…)

It was a little after midnight when I crossed over the bridge from Laredo, Texas into the sister city of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. After having my car searched I was cleared through the Mexican Customs’ check point where the military was staged and drove towards my destination. I had a source of mine, a local reporter, call me four hours earlier to tell me to meet him at a specific restaurant at 1 a.m. because he had some photographs and information I was looking for pertaining to a specific series of brutal murders that had taken place in the Laredo corridor.

This wasn’t all that unusual-most of the investigative journalists in Mexico work under intense circumstances given that they often come into information relating to the drug cartels that they either can not, or will not, report on because it would be a death sentence for them, so they give the information to someone like me who will get it aired or published in way that does not connect them.

I arrived early to the restaurant and since the weather was so pleasant, I decided to take a seat on the patio and have a glass of tea. I sat there for a few minutes when my source arrived and sat down, ordered a drink and handed me a large white envelope. He told me this was everything I had been asking his editor about the day before and that I should be careful how I use them. I thanked him, (by paying him) and we talked for about twenty more minutes and he asked if I could give him a ride home. (more…)
