Casey Anthony: The Burden of Proof in a ‘Law and Order’ World

by Gary Graham

An old TV show called “Perry Mason” set the tone.  A taut three-act play which culminated each week with justice prevailing as the real guilty party to a crime (invariably murder), confessed tearfully on the stand during an incisive cross-exam by the intrepid Raymond Burr.  Grim, post-trial quips, cue that stirring theme, and the public can rest easy as the scales of Justice are once again set right on their gimbals.

Fast forward to today, with such shows dominating the TV viewing audience.  “CSI” (and its many incarnations), “Law & Order” (and its many incarnations), and a myriad of homicide and courtroom dramas have conditioned us all to a few extremely misleading and dangerous mandates regarding the quest for justice.   There is an ever-growing and alarming trend in this society.  With such an increase in daily TV viewing, coupled with more and more reality-TV afoot…it is becoming more and more difficult for people to discern reality from fiction.

Thanks to television, we now have the following rules for court justice:

1)    As in a TV drama, the first and most obvious suspect NEVER is ultimately the guilty party.

2)    It’s always the one you least suspect.

3)    Police, with their erroneous and suspicious motivations, are never on target with their investigation. (more…)

Piracy a Threat to Motion Picture Industry as We Know It

by Frank DeMartini

This week in the Daily Variety there was an article by Ted Johnson entitled “Biz Need Louder Voice to Fight Piracy.”  In that article Mr. Johnson makes a case that the entertainment industry needs to be stronger and more vocal in its fight on the piracy issue.  His point is made almost entirely based upon a speech given by President of the DGA Taylor Hackford at the “Content Protection Summit.”  To quote Mr. Hackford from the article:

Our industry doesn’t get it at all. And I am talking about top executives down to secretaries.  I am talking about directors to craft service people.  Unfortunately, this is our (DGA) No 1 priority…But within our own members, they just don’t quite understand how serious this is…Hollywood is filled with very famous and successful people…And, we are really famous for our causes.  We care about things.  We step out, and we have our pet causes…The point is when we care about things, we back it with our money and we speak out.  The problem is nobody in this community speaks out about the threat that is actually happening in our community.  And, if we let this threat continue, they will not have the money to contribute to these causes.

The remainder of the article is mostly dedicated to the proposition that the problem stems mostly from the internet.  Mr. Johnson states that government should control the internet to protect the business models of the content providers.  He feels that the bill passed in the Judiciary Committee giving the Justice Department new powers to shut down “rogue” web sites is a good thing. Music Video: Utopian Riot’s ‘Like It’s 1984′ — Hard, Anti-Progressive Rock

by Utopian Riot

What kinds of music do conservatives listen to? According to the open-minded tolerant left, conservatives listen to country music and the occasional soft pop. At night, conservatives listen to dark classical music, count their money, and dream up new ways to exploit the poor with things like… jobs, products, and tax revenue. After all, how else do you explain the lack of conservative ideals within other forms of music?

Let us consider another possibility. Let us go to a place where people are not stereotyped; a place where people of all different backgrounds can have different passions and tastes. You know, like a Tea Party. In a place like that, it would be strange to find only one type of music that shares common ideals with the people. In a place like that, one might start to consider the possibility that somebody somewhere else is censoring music. Somebody somewhere else is censoring music.  Somebody somewhere else is censoring music. Now read it faster!!!

Ironically, though conservative values are being censored by the major labels, it is conservatives that will fight for their right to do just that. It is after all, their label.  And we can only hope that “they” will have no problem with new media platforms rising to create a stage for conservatives.

Unfortunately, history tells us that “they” will have a problem, (Insert numerous examples of leftists calling for censorship of Breitbart, Fox News, etc.).

Well, too bad.

We are Utopian Riot, a newly formed hard-rocking band of experienced musicians that has just released the unapologetic video above that intentionally plays like a horror movie. Our message targets the root of progressive thinking, attacking the centralized collective ideologies of the extreme left (see lyrics below).  The music is angry and if  you us why we’re so angry, we’ll reply, “Because we have a pulse.” (more…)
