When Arnold Schwarzenegger burst onto the political scene a couple of decades ago, he was a Republican pol’s dream: an icon of mostly liberal Hollywood willing to admit he had conservative convictions. But in the ensuing years, Schwarzenegger trampled on many of those dreams, staking out positions in elective office on immigration, cap-and-trade, and law and order that flew in the face of conservative ideology.

—–

And his post-gubernatorial admission of a secret affair with his housekeeper — that resulted in a love child he hid from his wife, Maria Shriver, and their children — all but shatters the family values image he tried to sustain.

The question now on most minds: Can the Terminator find a strategy to return to prominence and utter his most famous acting line, ‘I’ll be back’, once again?

I caught up with one of Hollywood’s most powerful and prominent PR players, Michael Levine, to ask that very question. He thinks the Terminator is, well, terminated.

Levine’s firm has represented a Who’s Who of American culture — from Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson to Joe Lieberman, John McCain and Bill Clinton. In short, America’s rich and powerful turn to him for advice when in crisis.

Levine disclosed to me that he twice voted for Schwarzenegger for governor. But it didn’t keep him from mincing words as he predicted Schwarzenegger has only just begun his downward spiral from power.

“America right now is a very cynical place and for good reason,” Levine told me. “Arnold Schwarzenegger has gifted America with another reason to be cynical. By the way, societies that are profoundly cynical are not healthy societies.”

“Before the scandal, his political career was over (since he did such a poor job as Governor). Now, since the scandal, any kind of fantasy he may have had with a future in politics — appointed or otherwise — is non-existent. He is politically radioactive,” Levine added.

Levine also is worried the backlash from his downward fall from grace could also cost Schwarzenegger at the box office.

“Before the scandal, his acting days as a leading man action hero were also largely going to be over because he is aging and was never a great actor to begin with. Now, since the scandal…look, last time I went to a movie theatre about half the people in there were women and I’m not exactly sure how this is going to play out with them.”

“The thing about Arnold is he likes himself A LOT, A LOT. I am told by people very close to him that he is so far out there that he actually believes that people think he did a good job as Governor.”

Prior to leaving office, Schwarzenegger shocked people when he commuted the sentence of Esteban Nunez, the son of a political ally who had plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the stabbing death of 22 year old college student, Luis Santos.

The Terminator seen here yukking it up with political friend Fabian Nunez. Arnold commuted the manslaughter sentence of Nunez’s son before leaving office.

The Santos family has filed a lawsuit against Arnold Schwarzenegger alleging he violated a victim’s rights initiative when he reduced the manslaughter sentence. It’s just one more cloud hanging over the storm front we now know to be Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Schwarzenegger has just announced that work on his new movie projects will stop “until further notice.” “At the request of Arnold Schwarzenegger, we asked Creative Artists Agency to inform all his motion picture projects currently underway, or being negotiated, to stop planning until further notice,” said Schwarzenegger’s lawyer, Patrick Knapp.

Apparently, the Terminator will have his hands full preparing for the most important role of his life after politics: defendant in what will surely be an expensive and very public divorce trial.

So, I’m relieved to say the Dream Act – the bill that would provide citizenship for illegal immigrant offspring if they go to college or join the military – failed.

My growing dislike for the act came from one place: I don’t trust anything with a fluffy, positive acronym. The Dream Act? It sounds like something I saw in Tijuana involving Louie Anderson and a tub of pudding. So, of course, the actual bill would be a let down.

Anyway, the name stands for “The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act,” and that was the problem. It was a lousy bill based on a bunch of unfortunate words, that together, don’t mean squat.

They were picked to spell “dream.” That’s it.

Now, I was for the Act, until I read up on it. Here’s what I noticed:

-the idiotic qualification “if they go to college or join the military” equates sacrifice with reward. I’m all for giving citizenship for immigrants who defend our country -because that’s awesome. But getting citizenship because you go to school? Seriously. Snoring in class is easy. War is hell.

-the age range for eligibility, even after it was dialed back – is still too broad (up to age 30), with the potential for lying so wide – that the act seems as porous as our border. It’s like we’re replacing a sieve, with a sieve.

But look – I’m for some kind of Dream Act, but not this one. Let’s revamp legal immigration: first let’s act like every other country (including Mexico) and secure our borders, then fix this Act. But to do that, we need to be honest. Stop tying lousy bills to emotional heartstrings. Call it what it is. This is about jobs, not diplomas. My suggestion, ditch the school crap, make the military the primary avenue for citizenship.

Make it a sequel. The Dream Act 2: Killing For A Green Card.

And if you disagree with me, you’re a racist homophobe.

We welcome all comments below, especially from those who somehow manage to hold on to an ideology that allows for them to be enraged over Arizona enforcing its own laws while at the same time being enraged with ABC for supposedly not doing enough to enforce the ”Dancing With the Stars” voting rules.

The greatest story ever courtesy of the Washington Times:

“America’s toughest sheriff,” Phoenix’s Joe Arpaio, is creating an armed “Immigration Posse” to combat illegal immigration, and Hollywood actors Steven Seagal and Lou Ferrigno, along with Dick Tracy and Wyatt Earp, have signed up.

Fighting Justice Department accusations that his office discriminated against illegal immigrants during arrests, Sheriff Arpaio said the civilian posse of more than 50 members gives citizens a chance to fight the problem inundating their border state.

“Law enforcement budgets are being cut and agencies are losing personnel and yet the battle to stop illegal immigration must continue,” said the sheriff, who heads the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. “Arizona is the busiest port of entry for people being smuggled in from Mexico, Latin and South America. So asking for the public’s help in this endeavor makes sense, especially given the success the posses have experienced over the years.”

Fifty-six new Immigration Posse members from various professions were sworn in by the sheriff Wednesday as “illegal immigration fighters.”

Mr. Seagal, who starred in such action movies as “Under Siege” and “Above the Law,” is a sworn deputy in New Orleans. Mr. Ferrigno, who played the title role in the 1970s TV series “The Incredible Hulk,” works as a reserve deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office. Another new civilian volunteer is Peter Lupus, who starred in “Mission Impossible.”

It didn’t get as much attention as it should have, but GOP Pollster Glen Bolger has done a fascinating poll. He finds Republicans leading the generic congressional ballot, 44% to 39%. No biggie. But look at the crosstabs: ”Besides all of the usual regional crosstabs, we also broke it out by the type of district. We looked at the sample in the 66 Democratic INCUMBENT districts that Charlie Cook lists as either toss-up or leaning Democratic at the time of the survey. In that key crosstab of Swing Democratic Incumbent Seats, the Republican lead grows to 49%-31% on the generic ballot. That is a very powerful crosstab that says the wave is coming. Among the remaining Democratic districts (Likely/Safe Dem, and open seats), the generic ballot is an unsurprisingly 33% GOP/51% Dem — a sign that the historically safe Dem seat will remain so, while the swing seats will be a bloodbath.”

Bolger is on to something. This is not a presidential election year. What counts are the states and congressional districts with competitive races. It’s clear that Republicans hold a huge advantage at this point. But there is another critical point to consider — who will vote. Another poll released yesterday showed that Independents are breaking toward the GOP as well.

On top of that, 60 Plus’ recent poll showed that seniors — the citizens with the highest propensity to vote — are angry and getting madder by the day thanks to the FDA’s consideration of rationing of the late stage cancer treatments. Poll showed that 78% of registered voters worry that the FDA decision on the drug Avastin represents the start of rationing and 71% would vote against any candidate siding with the FDA on the issue–pretty devastating numbers for Democrats who promised the public this wouldn’t happen.

And just when you think things couldn’t get much worse, progressive Democrat Zoe Loffgren’s invites Steven Colbert to testify before a congressional subcommittee. Colbert is a perfect metaphor for the Democrat controlled Congress — it is a joke.

Colbert and his comedy routine were on full display before the House Judiciary Committee offering testimony about immigration and labor policy. ”This is America,” Colbert said. ”I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican. I want it picked by an American, then sliced by a Guatemalan and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian,” Colbert deadpanned. What a riot.

Let’s get this straight — American is on the verge of bankruptcy. Federal spending is out of control and the deficit is expected to go to $20 trillion by 2020. Unemployment remains near double digits and when you take into account those who have quit trying to find a job, that number is closer to 20%. Our health care system is in shambles and the government is preparing a take-over that will ration care for seniors and the sick. Our border is being overrun by illegal immigrants who have turned cities in Arizona into the kidnapping capital of the United States — and we get a clown to testify before the Congress?

Well the joke is on them.

The Colbert testimony is a stain on the institution and the party running it.

——

Personally, I completely agree with Glenn Reynolds that having this idiot Colbert testify was nothing more than a Democrat stunt to take the media’s eye off the very real and important testimony also taking place today regarding the Justice Department’s racism scandals. So the more cringe-worthy and embarrassing Colbert’s appearance is, the better. Naturally, the MSM will be all too willing to play along. They fully understand how damaging the DOJ Black Panther case is to the Obama Administration and have no desire to come anywhere near covering it.

And of course, there’s Stephen Colbert, just as willing to play along — a narcissistic attention whore with no respect for the political process who thinks his schtick combined with a ten hour day he spent in the vegetable fields somehow makes him a compelling and important witness.

The one good thing that came out of this is Colbert’s reaction to Conyers’ request that he leave. It’s not very often you see a smug, superior Hollywoodist caught off guard.

Byron York has more coverage here. He thinks the Democrats damaged themselves with this stunt:

Colbert stayed in place as the other witnesses made opening statements. When Colbert’s turn came, Conyers briefly interrupted to say that he was withdrawing his request for Colbert to leave.

Then Colbert began his testimony, which was an in-character schtick based on a one-day visit to an upstate New York farm. “This is America,” Colbert said. “I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican.” As the hearing went on, Colbert said things like, “I was a cornpacker…cornpacker is a derogatory term for a gay Iowan.”

At the end, Lofgren proclaimed the hearing “helpful.” She thanked the witnesses, who she called “volunteers to help make a better country.” But the presence of her star witness, Colbert, had cause a number of strange and awkward moments, ones that could come back to some of the Democrats on the panel in the campaign ahead.

I disagree with York. As I write this, Colbert is all over cable news and the “bombshell” testimony regarding the DOJ is nowhere to be seen. But it’s hard to beat the trifecta of political corruption: Democrats, the media, and Hollywood.

Mission accomplished.

Now, If you don’t remember a place called Maywood, that’s okay. I’ve been drunk for two months.

But it’s a small “bedroom” town in L.A. that once passed a resolution supporting an Arizona boycott, after that state decided to enforce federal immigration laws.

Well, it was announced last month that Maywood is going to lay off all its employees, unload its police department, and contract everything out to another city.

Somehow this story squeaked by me, probably because the city is just one square mile, and has only 45,000 residents. And I’m drunk.

But the financial problems, some papers claim, stem from canceled insurance coverage due to millions in legal expenses – blamed on its police department.

But maybe there’s another reason: officials claim half of the population are illegal immigrants.

When you throw that in, bankruptcy makes sense. Sanctuary cities may make some folks feel warm and fuzzy, but it’s financial folly. That’s because cities fail without a tax base. And you don’t have a tax base with people who don’t pay taxes. Worse, in a tiny town with a small budget, illegals who don’t contribute still use services, so you have a drain on both ends. Top that off with legal problems, and you’ve got a ghost town, without the ghosts.

And this leads to a simple question. Would you rather live in a state like Arizona that enforces a reasonable concept of legal immigration, or a town that ridicules that state- but then eventually disappears under its own misguided b.s?

I know where I’d live. You know, if I were allowed to cross state lines.

And if you disagree with me, you’re a racist homophobe who attends tea parties in a white robe.

So Mexican President Felipe Calderon was at the White House Wednesday, where he bashed Arizona’s new immigration law, calling it discriminatory to Mexicans.

The best part: when he said he wants “a border that will unite us instead of dividing us.” Uh, sounds nice – but aren’t borders the physical manifestation of division? Isn’t division… the point?

But he said this in Spanish – which to me is kinda divisive, since I took two years of it in school and was too drunk at the time to remember any of it. Nonetheless, our President gamely threw Arizona under the bus – no surprise since he never read the damn law, anyway.

We also discussed the new law in Arizona which is a misdirected effort, a misdirected expression of frustration over our broken immigration system which has raised concerns in both our countries. Today, I want every American to know that my administration has devoted unprecedented resources in personnel and technology to securing our border. Illegal immigration is down, not up, and we will continue to do what’s necessary to secure our shared border.

All hail modern American diplomacy. Earlier this week, one of our jackass diplomats groveled before the Chinese – who kill dissidents for fun – over our human rights violations. And then, of course, the UN – who, on our dime, allow misogynists, thugs and dictators to sit on commissions – said Arizona violates international standards. I supposed if we started raping more, we’d fit the UN criteria.

And now Calderon comes here to tell us we discriminate – simply because we want what Mexico already has – a border.

It makes me wonder how he’d feel if I came to Mexico and condemned his Gestapo-like immigration laws. Like I said before, anyone deported from Mexico who tries to return, can be jailed for up to ten years. And foreigners can be banned if they upset “the equilibrium of the national demographics,” are judged harmful to “economic or national interests,” or if “they are not physically or mentally healthy.”

Now that’s divisive!

But no one cares – because no one’s trying to get into Mexico. Instead of obsessing over our laws, Felipe should ask himself why his countrymen are dying, literally, to come here.

It’s definitely not for the Mexican food.

I’ve eaten at Chevy’s.

What the hell is going on in this great country of ours?

First, let me say I am sick and tired of The Left destroying the values this country was built on. And not being held accountable! I see the attacks made daily and most are oblivious. If your child was drowning would you just sit there and sip a mint julep? We are all fiddling as our country is being capsized. Like on the Titanic, the quintet keeps playing as the ship sinks.

Italian immigrants arrive at Ellis Island

We are a generation that has been psycho-babbled into oblivion. We accept and make excuses for behavior that should not be tolerated. When I was growing up in my fathers house, if I did not obey my parent’s rules I would have been asked to leave. Today, we all go to group therapy and discuss how we can make a compromise and before you know it the parents are the ones who are asked to leave.

My family were immigrants. My grandparents came from Italy. Did you know that the most lynchings in American history were done to Italian immigrants? Did you know that Italian immigrants were treated like dirt? That we were shunned, spit on, killed, whipped, and treated like animals? We were called “guineas, wops, dagos.” It was thought that all Italians were criminals, part of the mafia. All because our names ended in a vowel and we had darker skin.

Yes, my friends, the Italian people were racially profiled. And sometimes, we still are. I will attest to that. But did Italians bitch and cry and complain about America and its rules? No, Italians most certainly did not.

They were told to learn the language and we did. We were told to salute the stars and strips and we did. Gladly. We embraced America, not resent it. We did not have a victimized mentality. My fathers father came here from Sicily and joined the US infantry during World War I. He was wounded twice and received an Oak Leaf Cluster and a Purple Heart. And as difficult as it was for him, he learned English. He sang The Star-Spangled Banner in broken English, not the Giovanezza in Italian.

Don’t get me wrong, we are proud being of Italian descent and have close ties to our cultural heritage, but we are Americans first and foremost. Period. The same happened to the Irish, Jews, Blacks and others. But I cannot speak for what they went through, only what happened to my family and other Italian immigrants.

Recently, a friend of mine, who is a teacher, told me about a stunning exchange that took place during one of his classes when the issue of immigration came up. One of the students, who was clearly left leaning, said, “It’s not fair when the only work they can get is at McDonald’s or as drug dealers.” While my friend, the teacher, considered how best to respond to this, another student, of Hispanic origin, yelled out, “That is a load of BULL. I came here from Mexico six years ago, legally, and I have a car, a good job, my own house, and I LOVE this country.”

What happens is people are told to be victims, and because of this they become victims. It’s conditioning. If you grew up saying, “God damn America,” then that’s how you’re likely to feel. So, instead of helping the immigrant population assimilate into America, they are told that this is really their land and they were given a raw deal. Blah blah blah. It fits right in with the grand old Marxist scheme and breeds nothing but resentment and danger. That’s right, while eating your ice cream a big bad police officer will come in and snatch that cone out of your hand and throw you in jail. How the heck can we have an Attorney General who is pissing on Arizona immigration law? And when asked if he has read it, he admits that he only scanned it and hasn’t even been briefed yet.

We are witnessing right now all the difficulty over immigration. It is as if both parties have put their heads in the sand, because no one wants to lose the vote. The left panders so cleverly, like a pusher enabling entitlements. The right is afraid of appearing insensitive. So nothing is done. No one knows what to do?

Let’s start with securing the borders. Whatever it takes. Next give one month for every illegal to declare themselves under no penalty. Once they are declared, they must learn English. Start English classes immediately for a small fee. We can get volunteers to teach them. If they have no criminal record and wish to stay, good.

They then must declare allegiance to the United States, and the US only. They will be able to work, but they will then wait in line to become citizens until all those who applied legally are accepted. Then they move up based on the amount of time they were here. Finally, they must perform community service for coming here illegally. I don’t care if it’s one hour a week for ten years, but some kind of formula like this.

And let’s stop this “racial” profiling bullshit. Who cares? It’s really “criminal” profiling, but The Left shouts, “Watch out for racial profiling!” Another one of the great buzzwords to manipulate the system and have people live in fear. Well, you know what, if it saves lives, then please, profile away. The arguments from The Left has little to do with the Constitution, but everything to do with tearing the very fabric of American society to sheds.

Pelosi, Reid, Obama… go govern in another country. Get out of American politics because you are seditious in your behavior in upholding our constitution. President Obama is sounding more and more like a South American dictator then the President of the United States. Mr. President, you are trying to reshape America through the prism of your father’s eyes. Remember, you went to a congregation where “God damn America” was the battle cry.

Look, I like Obama. I happen to think he’s a terrific leader… just not for the America our founders intended.

Old glory is under attack. Teachers punish students for wearing the American flag or drawing pictures of it. When I grew up, my teachers were patriots, not subversive. What a difference a few decades make. It is time the line is drawn in the sand. If our tax dollars are going to public schools, I want a say in what is taught and who is doing the teaching.

Wake up, Americans. The time has come for all of us to stop apologizing for being Americans. “E pluribus unum.” — “Out of many, one.” Celebrate, not tear us apart.

Wake up. It is now the responsibility of every man, woman, and child who does not want a Marxist society to take an active part in government and protect our country.

Wake up. We are under attack… and it is from within.
