Weighing the Promise of Health Care and Finding it Wanting

by Joseph C. Phillips

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week”, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi commented, “I think everybody wants affordable health care for all Americans. They know that this will take courage. It took courage to pass Social Security. It took courage to pass Medicare. And many of the same forces that were at work decades ago are at work again against this bill.”

obamacare15

There is that word again. What exactly does affordable mean? The left tosses the word about but never bothers to define exactly what they mean by affordable. It could mean anything and everything and no doubt it will. Affordable is a political term that is unassociated with actual costs, only addresses price and means, “you pay according to the amount of political capital you have.” For instance if you belong to the SEIU you pay less than if you didn’t. But I digress.

I dare say that the only reason it takes courage to pass Obamacare is because a majority of Americans oppose it. According to a recent CNN poll only 25% of Americans want congress to pass this healthcare bill. It is particularly telling that the new left continues to depict the 75% of Americans that oppose their efforts to nationalize healthcare (which is the end game) as ignoble, uncompassionate, ignorant racists. More annoying is that they portray themselves as visionary, compassionate champions of good. (more…)

I’ve Got Your Deficit Commission Right Here!

by Joseph C. Phillips

Even as a bloodbath looms in the November distance, the Obama administration continues to push healthcare because they know that Americans love theirentitlements like winos love wine. They are betting the farm that once that fiery warmth begins running through the National body we will not only lovenational health care, but will fight to defend it. We will also be too glassy eyed to notice that we have suddenly signed away our liberty, becoming slaves to those that serve us. But I digress.

obamadebt

Like wine, entitlements cost money. Sadly the more addicted we become the less money we have to spend on more important and often essential things. The wino lacks food, housing and clothing; the entitlement addict lacks employment, savings and luxury.

Consider that today our national debt stands at roughly $12 trillion or roughly 70% of our gross domestic product or GDP. But wait. We have promised today’s workers Social Security and Medicare benefits totaling another $41 trillion. Toss in another trillion for miscellaneous expenses, and suddenly our debt skyrockets to $54 trillion. In layman’s terms it means in order to pay our future obligations we would need $54 trillion dollars invested today. How much of that money does this nation have sitting around? Zip! Zero! Zilch! Burnt Offering: Common Sense Health Care Solutions From An Everyday American

by Robert Davi

I am sick of speeches, I am sick of promises, I am sick of hearing the same old rhetoric:  The State of the Union with all the applause and heads nodding in agreement or disagreement — the ping pong of politics, the white noise that drones on until we’re numbed and anesthetized with everything but the truth… Then there’s the opposition’s rebuttal — which is about as exciting as eating hot watermelon. I watch the good-old slaps on the back and think, “How can they all forget about Fannie and Freddie? The CRA? That THEIR policies created this mess!?!”

healthcare

For too long the American people have been bamboozled and lulled into a false sense of This Is The Greatest Nation On Earth. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is, but my mother used to tell me as a kid, “Self-praise stinks.”  When I asked her why, she explained that it can intoxicate you into laziness. I’m not saying the American people are lazy, but our elected officials get up, give a speech, and somewhere say, “Greatest Nation On Earth” and we all feel better and go on about our day not paying attention, enough attention, to what’s going on, and trusting that the latest line of shit we’ve been fed is the truth — no matter what side of the political spectrum you’re on.

Then the marketing machine starts selling to the public … a pile of dung. Haven’t you heard for years the same old issues over and over and over ad infinitum?  Well, the patient is bleeding to death and we do not need a tourniquet, we need  amputations: Get everyone out of office who does not have America’s and the American people’s best interests at heart. The Obamunism Bikini

by Victoria Jackson

I think the sleeping giant has been awakened.

Now the sleeping giant needs to put on some clothes.

Hallelujah!  I was praying about our country.  And then, Scott Brown dropped out of the sky. My friend Bonnie was praying and fasting.  I said, “Fasting?  You weigh 90 lbs.!”

She said, “I am fasting from Glenn Beck.  Fasting means abstaining from anything that you love, not just food.”

IMG_0176

Oh good.  Because I can’t even go two hours without popping a Coffee Nip (hard candy, 30 calories each) in my  mouth.  Maybe I’ll fast from Coffee Nips in an effort to enhance my prayer intensity.  Only God can save our country.

So, our prayer and fasting is working.  Millions of us have been praying.  And, thanks to Glenn Beck we are learning exactly who our enemy is.  Whether you call it Progressive, Radical, Far Left, Communist, or Socialist, it is one thing – Government Control.  Those two words don’t register in many minds because our secular school system ”forgot” to teach political science and accurate history.  Communism destroys freedom, annihilates Christianity, kills people, and doesn’t work. I recently sang my “There’s a Communist Living in the White House” song to a 12 year old.  He said, “What’s a Communist?”  I said, “Here’s your crash course in politics – Communism is the opposite of Freedom.” (more…)

Burt’s Eye View: New Year’s Resolutions

by Burt Prelutsky

This is the time of year when most people are busy resolving to do better in the future. Some people vow to go on diets or exercise more, some promise to give up smoking or booze. But, year in and year out, I vow to cut liberals more slack and give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, just as with other people’s good intentions, my own rarely last until nightfall. The difference is that the reason mine die on the vine, as it were, has nothing to do with my own lack of character, but everything to do with the failings of liberals.

alg_barack_obama_side_view

For one thing, liberals are hypocritical. They have agendas when they’d be better off having principles. They praise whistle-blowers and investigative reporters, but only when Republicans, conservatives and/or the U.S. military suffer the consequences. So it was that they lionized Daniel Ellsberg for turning the Pentagon Papers over to the NY Times and heralded Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward for their Watergate expose, but demanded that James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles be prosecuted for their ACORN videos and wanted the computer hackers who uncovered the East Anglia emails, the ones proving global warming to be a major hoax, to be tarred and feathered. Burt’s Eye View: The New and Improved Iron Curtain

by Burt Prelutsky

Back in 1946, Winston Churchill, in a speech delivered at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, referred to an Iron Curtain that had descended across the Continent, behind which all the capitols of the ancient states, from Berlin to Belgrade, from Budapest to Sofia, were under the boot of the Soviet Union.

Today, freedom-loving people are faced with a second such curtain. It doesn’t exist in Eastern Europe this time, but along the Potomac. On one side, there are despots like Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Waxman, Sunstein, Emanuel, Axelrod, Specter and Conyers. On the other side are those of us who are sick and tired of having ex-community organizers and their left-wing henchmen doing their best to enslave us. They treat the Constitution like toilet paper; they bribe millions of us, including illegal aliens, with cash and free health benefits, while simultaneously bankrupting the rest of us, along with our kids and their kids.

They have saddled us with so much debt, unemployment and inevitable inflation, one can only assume it’s their plan that we’ll be too wretched to notice that they’re also taking away our rights and freedom. This is the doing of the same people who pretended that the Patriot Act, which did nothing more than try to prevent Islamic terrorists from plotting a sequel to 9/11, was the height of fascistic tyranny.

I guarantee that if our leading leftists were characters in a movie, a lot more people would be able to recognize their villainy. That’s because they would all look like albinos and talk with funny accents. (more…)

What a Difference a Year Makes

by Frank DeMartini

It is pretty much the end of 2009. It is also the end of the first decade of the Millennium. Hard to believe that we’ve gone through ten years since the Y2K scare. Also, hard to believe we had three different presidents since the turn of the Millennium: One that was impeached, one that retired extremely unpopular and one that is becoming extremely unpopular.

carl-cannon-obama-snow-af

Barack Hussein Obama has been president for 11 months. So, this year is his for all its good and bad. There is no doubt about that. When he became President, the entire world was energized. America had elected a new savior. He was young, energetic and promised hope and change. And, he is the first African American President in US history. All of the scars of the past had disappeared. Per the Progressives, we had become a true shining city on the hill. The Republican Party was in deep trouble. (more…)

What’s The Rush?!

by Victoria Jackson

The RUSH is what scares me.

“Impatience does not diminish but augments the evil.” (Latin proverb)

6a00d83451baf469e200e54f18492a8833-800wi

Okay, we all know that this global warming thing is a politically based, scientifically unproven, exaggeration based on greed, power and big government control.  I just did my science term paper on it and science hasn’t found an accurate way to measure global climate yet. But, what if it is true that industry, production, coal use and automobiles are emitting too much poison into the atmosphere, and our earth is sensitive to this, being damaged by this, and that there is potential damage coming to our future generations…

…wouldn’t the logical, reasonable thing be to intelligently discuss the topic?  Perhaps a televised debate between two respected scientists who have no political ties, who have opposite opinions on the climate change topic?  Isn’t that the way civilized people approach problems?! (more…)

The War of Words — Why We’re Losing

by Gary Graham

He who defines the rules controls the game.   And we’re letting them define the rules.

Jobs.  Health care.  Economic justice.  Working families.  Income redistribution.  Fairness.

Words mean things.  Very specific things.  We on the Right tend to forget that.  By following the lead from the Left, we abdicate our arguments without even knowing it.  By using their terms, and in so doing, tacitly allowing their outrageous assertions to stand unchallenged, we surrender ground – one step, one phrase, one election at a time.

war-of-words-poster

We are told the main issue on Americans’ minds in these perilous economic times, is ‘Jobs’.  The main problem is putting people back to work, dontcha know.  ‘Creating more jobs’.  And of course, this is a classic example of the cart before the horse.  It’s a tried-and-true ploy of the Collectivist to frame the problem as that which affects ‘the masses’ alongside the solution, which involves the central government.  (The people need jobs!   We’ve got to create more jobs!)   As if…in a free republic the purpose of government is to provide each citizen with a job.  As if…a job is merely this mystical anomaly that suddenly appears by fiat of a benevolent and elegant president.  As if…the very economic policies of the new administration aren’t doing everything they can to retard the growth of the economy and hence hamper and defeat the expansion of the work force.  As if…it’s not the stifling regulation, punitive taxation, and restriction of movement on business that prevents business from hiring new employees. Images: Ground Zero On the Battlefield of Ideas

by Ari David

Images have power. Propaganda and marketing are based on the power of the image and the thoughts and feelings that the image conveys. A photo op pulled off well can make a politician’s career. A photo op done badly will torpedo it.

Michael Dukakis riding around in a tank destroyed his presidential run. So is the power of imagery.

When I was a teenager a street artist named Robbie Conal put up grotesque pictures around Los Angeles of Ronald Reagan and his cabinet members like James Watt and Ed Meese.

conal_contra

These images had power over the long term and many street posters by Conal, other artists, a left-wing media and academia all worked in aggregate to change West LA which was Reagan’s home district to the left-wing bastion of “people’s republics” communities it is today. I am not asserting that Conal alone had this affect, but in interviews from the mid-eighties, Conal clearly stated that it was his goal to change public perception and public opinion with his art. Stopping ObamaCare: Who Has The Courage?

by Frank DeMartini

Last Saturday night, in what was mostly a procedural vote, the Senate approved moving forward with debate on the health-care reform bill.  The vote was 60-39, the barest minimum necessary for debate to start in the Chamber.  To listen to Harry Reid and his cohorts after the vote, you would think the Senate had just accomplished the greatest feat since the creation of man.  What they really did was nothing . . . . . yet.  (I’m sorry, maybe they did do something.  It appears they bought the vote of Senator Mary Landrieu from Louisiana with a staggering amount of pork.)

xlieberman

Sometime after Thanksgiving, true debate in the Senate will begin.  The pros and cons of Mr. Reid’s bill will finally be debated in front of the American public.  But, will it be a true debate at all?  Or, will it just be a front in which enough pork will be put into the bill to get the votes of Joe Lieberman, Mary Landrieu, Blanche Lincoln, and Ben Nelson; the four Democrats who must be swayed into Harry Reid’s pack of wolves.  The same pack of wolves whose intent is ruining America under the guise of health care reform.  (more…)

Burt’s Eye View: Obama’s World and Welcome to It

by Burt Prelutsky

Many people were offended to see Barack Obama once again bowing to a foreign dignitary, the Emperor of Japan.  For my part, I was actually relieved that at least this latest breech of protocol didn’t involve his kowtowing to one of America’s sworn enemies.

As most people are well aware, I have nothing but loathing for Obama’s policies, but even I am amazed by his reluctance to handle what I regard as the easy part of his job; namely, carrying off his responsibilities to be a figurehead, to be the proud symbol of this great and generous nation.

obama_bow

Instead, he tours the world on our dime apologizing for our alleged failings and transgressions.  He goes to Denmark in order to lobby for the Olympics, in order that his corrupt Chicago cronies could cash in on crooked land deals, but he doesn’t go to Germany to help commemorate the falling of the Berlin Wall.  Next, instead of expressing the grief that every decent American felt over the slaughter of American soldiers and an unborn baby by an Islamic terrorist, this bozo gave a partisan shout-out at a Native American shindig.  Then, for good measure, he warned us not to jump to the conclusion that the Islamic terrorist was an Islamic terrorist.  (more…)

Alec Baldwin: Pass ObamaCare to Get Revenge on Republicans

by John Nolte

1118574600alec_baldwin

When Leftists are winning the day, they’re just plain arrogant. When Leftists are losing, they’re a helluva lot of fun to watch. Case in point: Alec Baldwin’s latest incomprehensible attack on Republicans courtesy of HuffPo. Here are my favorite snips, but read the whole thing and count the number of times you say, ”huh? — whuh?” Don’t make it a drinking game, though. Suicide’s illegal:

The Pentagon wastes more money on more crap that you and I don’t need and gets it wrong, on a policy level, more often than not since 1960 (I’ll give them a pass on Korea, due to all the Cold War anxiety at the time).

How nice… Baldwin gives the Pentagon a pass on Korea… I’m sure a wave of relief swept through the Military Industrial Complex. “Hey, you can exhale now, the ‘30 Rock’ guy says it’s okay…” And don’t you just love when a Leftist decides to get all bent over government waste? It’s always the military, always the most successful — by a long shot — of our government agencies. (more…)

Fools Wanted: A Lesson from ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’

by John P. Hanlon

In the 1939 classic film “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” the newly-appointed Senator Jefferson Smith is told by his secretary how important “fools” can be in Washington D.C.  Her support and admiration for fools is not an endorsement of sending uneducated persons to our nation’s capital. Fools, she believes, include honorable people who have faith in their convictions against political opposition and harsh criticism. The movie “Mr. Smith” and its message about “fools” serve as a reminder about what public service is really about and what integrity really means.

wsmith-732718

Even though I have lived in the D.C. area for a little less than three years, I recently watched  “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” for the first time. The movie revolves around an appointed Senator who brings his hopefulness and his integrity to Washington D.C. James Stewart plays Mr. Smith, the head of a boy’s organization, who is surprisingly given a chance to serve his country in the United States Senate. He is a Governor’s political appointee who some believe will cave to political pressure and make his voting decisions on the advice of a corrupt but highly-respected Senate colleague. Mr. Smith refuses to accommodate that fellow Senator and the demands of the political machine in his state that fights against him and he eventually loses confidence in the entire political system.
