Greg Gutfeld’s 3 AM ‘Red Eye’ Ratings Beat Scarborough, Piers Morgan, John King, Chris Matthews…

by Hollywoodland

DHD:

The talk show hosted by Greg Gutfeld averaged the largest audience in its five-year history (446,000) as well as 177,000 in adults 25-54. In the demo, it edged Piers Morgan (176,000) at 9 PM as well as a slew of other cable news programs in way more trafficked time slots: CNN’s Erin Burnett Outfront (146,000) at 7 PM, MSNBC’s Morning Joe (141,000) from 6-9 AM, MSNBC’s Hardball With Chris Matthews (163,000) at 5 PM and 7 PM, HLN’s Nancy Grace (157,000) at 8 PM, and CNN’s John King USA (121,000) at 6 PM.

GREG GUTFELD MOVES TO PRIMETIME!

Is five p.m. primetime? Let’s just say that it is. After all, we here at Big Hollywood have been pushing for Primetime Greg for a while now and unlike the Soros’ funded, tax exempt Media Matters, we’d like to move on from bothering Fox News.

But take heart “Red Eye” lovers. Nothing’s changed in Unicorn Land. Greg’s simply doing double duty. The new Fox News Channel show is called “The Five” and it’s on at five p.m. and it’s on at five p.m. with five panelists. Get it? Along with Greg, you’ll find Bob Beckel, Dana Perrino, Eric Bolling and others talking about the big issues of the day — including, coincidentally, Soros’-funded Media Matters and their tax exempt status. Check out that clip. Yes, there is a leg chair.

Congrats and good luck, Greg. Well deserved. Though we do miss those ‘logues over here.

And now the Big Hollywood push to get Bill and Andy to primetime begins…

Alec Baldwin Spews Hate on Bachmann: ‘Inarticulate and Full of Shi**’

by John Nolte

Between Jon Stewart, David Letterman, Bill Maher, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Janeane Garofalo, and so many other nasty Hollywood degenerates, the beating our side takes in the realm of ad hominem, sexist and racist attacks is non-stop. Some of the ugliest things imaginable are constantly thrown our way and it’s gotten to a point where we now expect it.

And it’s not just left-wing celebrities. Left-wing “journalists” like Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, and Politico’s Kenneth Vogel are nearly as bad.

Who on our side does this to the Left?

Who on our side launches the same kind of personal attacks at Democratic stars?

I listen to Dennis Miller and watch Greg Gutfeld, two of the funniest and most talented right-of-center entertainers out there, and they never go as far as a Bill Maher or David Letterman. Not even close. In fact, they’re never ugly towards anyone. And when they do make a joke or comment there’s never a sense that it comes from a place of hate, anger or malice.

Greg Gutfeld on Wonkette’s Jack Steuf: ‘What a Hideous, Pathetic Tool’

by John Nolte

Ohmydeargawd, how we love us some Greg Gutfeld. Please, Fox News, we need this in primetime:

—–

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, here’s our own Dana Loesch, whose offered second-to-none coverage at Big Journalism yesterday. And this was just Round 1:

As a result of this morning’s post condemning an outrageous post from Wonkette in which blogger Jack Stueff mocks Trig Palin over his Down Syndrome and suggests that Todd Palin slept with his daughter, outrage spread across Twitter and now Wonkette advertisers are pulling ads.

Check out Big Journalism and scroll… scroll… Great story. Great day for Citizen Journalists who took to Twitter and made a difference.

Really.

Purely by coincidence, here’s a piece I wrote yesterday on the political power of Twitter, especially when it comes to politely but firmly calling the MSM out on their biases.

Movement to Move ‘Red Eye’ to Earlier Time Slot Picks Up Steam

by John Nolte

While we always worry when we find ourselves in agreement with Mediaite, we are happy to see the idea we promoted last week picking up some steam. And nothing doubles our resolve in seeing “Red Eye” moved to a more prominent Fox News Channel time slot than what we’re witnessing this week at the hands of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. With 2012 looming, the Right desperately needs a dog in this satirical fight, preferrably one that’s allowed to howl before 3 a.m.

The only thing more maddening than not having a weapon, is having a weapon that’s not being used properly. In the form of the “Red Eye” crew, Fox News has a proven talent at their disposal and there’s obviously a market for a primetime, satirical look at the day’s events. Does anyone doubt that Colbert and Stewart’s relentless leftism drives people away? And anyone who’s seen an episode of “Red Eye” knows there’s no one better suited to pick that audience up than Greg Gutfeld.

Mediaite’s Matt Schneider makes the same case:

First, why does Red Eye deserve the larger audience that would no doubt be waiting for it at an earlier time slot? Besides regularly featuring intelligent debates, provocative guests and hilarious comedy bits, Red Eye is unique in that it is basically the only conservative answer to many left-leaning successful comedy shows like Real Time with Bill Maher, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report. Today’s generation of young information seekers often prefer to be entertained while getting the news and Maher, Stewart and Colbert can often be the only means by which some young people stay informed. Red Eye can serve a similar purpose and fill the comedic void that young conservative-leaning Americans no doubt desire.

That’s true to a point but there’s something bigger and more important to consider here. The mainstream media  — and that includes Mediaite — uses the likes of Colbert, Stewart, and SNL as weapons to bludgeon conservatives with. Call it the Tina Fey Factor. These entertainers know and count on the news media viralizing their most potent attacks against the right — and the news media never fails to comply. With a potent talent like Gutfeld in a slot that doesn’t require DVR viewing the next day after the news cycle has already moved on, right-of-center ideas have a real chance at earning a seat at this table.

Sign the Petition: Move ‘Red Eye W/Greg Gutfeld’ to Fox News’ Primetime

by Hollywoodland

First off, we want to wish Glenn Beck the best in whatever it is he and his media company decide to do next. The way he and Fox News handled the decision to part ways is a model for all in the art of professional dignity — or in the art of doing the complete opposite of what MSNBC does. But as the saying goes, when one door closes another opens and we, the editors of the Bigs, would like to take this opportunity to politely suggest to the powers at Fox News that Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld is ready for primetime. Actually, strike that. We don’t want to suggest it, we want to declare it. Because it’s a fact.

For over three years now, Greg Gutfeld, TV’s own Andy Levy, Bill Schulz, Pinch, a myriad of fascinating guests from all walks of life, and the Leg Chair, have been producing the best news/satire/interview/comedy show on television. It’s an hour of cool, funny, irreverent, intelligent and informative entertainment, but … it airs at three in the morning. And yet, “Red Eye not only has as dedicated a following as anything on television right now, it’s also been known to pull in more viewers than CNN’s primetime … at three in the morning.

Furthermore, we live in a world where popular entertainment culture rules as much as the news, where Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Bill Maher, and SNL can help to set the national debate and steer the political narrative as much if not more than political newsmakers. Fox News grabbing a piece of this only makes sense from a business, influence and ratings point of view, but for those of us tired of the Hollywood left owning almost every square inch of this valuable turf, having “Red Eye’s” conservative-to-libertarian ideas penetrating this world would be a real breath of fresh air.

There is an untapped market here, somewhere in the, oh, 50% range.

Supreme Court Wrong On Westboro Ruling

by Greg Gutfeld

So yesterday, during our ideas meeting, Andy suggested we do something on the latest Supreme Court ruling, which was in favor of Westboro Baptist Church.

To sum up: The father of a fallen Marine had sued the church, saying their protests were intentionally meant to inflict distress. The Court disagreed, saying these creeps had a right to promote their “message.”

We skipped the story because we felt any mention of Westboro is a win for Westboro.

Which is still true, today.

But I’m bringing them up anyway, because, the ruling sucks.

Look – If you can’t yell “fire” in a crowded theater – which is an act meant to cause harm – how are the actions of the Phelps any different?

Their whole schtick, after all, is using language and props to incite grieving folks to violence.

That ain’t freedom of speech, it’s a pack of ghouls looking for trouble.

‘Red Eye’: A Funny Right-Leaning Show That’s Earned a Better Time Slot

by Andrew Leigh

Fox News’ Red Eye has established numerous firsts for a cable news program:  First talking newspaper, first intergalactic correspondent, first openly gay host.

But the show’s most ground-breaking achievement, the one that will rank it right up there with The Cosby Show, Ellen, and Joanie Loves Chachi, is that Red Eye is the first genuinely funny conservative show.  (Albeit more libertarian than traditional conservative.)

—–

Never heard of Red Eye?  Maybe because it’s on at 3 AM EST.  Whether you’re an early-bird or an insomniac hooked on Poker After Dark, Red Eye will make you thank Al Gore for inventing the DVR.

Astonishingly, despite the witching-hour time slot, Red Eye has more viewers than any show on CNN, including its primetime lineup.

Red Eye’s affable host, Greg Gutfeld, was a longtime magazine editor whose posts included popular “lad” mags like Stuff, Maxim UK, and Blueboy.  He made the normally rocky transition from hard-bitten, ink-stained wretch to pixel-dusted, blow-dried blowhard without breaking a sweat (or a nail). Gutfeld

Tonight at 9:00 PM Pacific Time, Greg Gutfeld joins me on “The Stage Right Show” for a one-on-one interview.  Listen here at Big Hollywood as Gutfeld pontificates on Helen Thomas, Bill Maher, Ann Coulter, Fox News, Michael Moore and bondage paraphernalia.  All the while seamlessly plugging his hugely popular new book, The Bible of Unspeakable Truths.

THE INTERVIEW: Greg Gutfeld On His New Book, MSNBC, Unicorns, Media Matters, ‘Red Eye’ and What the ‘Six Million Dollar Man’ Was Really About

by Leigh Scott

It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon here in Malibu, California.  A school of dolphins frolic in the ocean, visible from the deck of my two story beach house.  I’ve invited over my good friend; author, television personality and all around swell guy Greg Gutfeld to talk about his new book “The Bible of Unspeakable Truths.”  My Laotian pool boy Hugo has just finished freshening our pina coladas and it’s time to dig into the interview.  [Editor’s Note:  This interview was conducted via email.  Mr. Scott has never met Mr. Gutfeld.  Mr. Scott demanded this bogus intro citing the Vanity Fair style guide and insisting that the imagery would make the interview "more interesting for the reader."  Whatever.]

gg

Greg, thanks for stopping by.  Let’s get into it.

1)  Why write a book of all things?  I mean, you’re on TV and you are a King of the Internets.  Isn’t a book a technological step backwards?  What can we expect next, a hieroglyphic stone tablet or something over the telegraph?

Originally, I had planned to do the book purely via the classic child’s game called “Whisper Down the Lane.” I begin speaking a passage of the book, to one person, who then repeats the passage to someone else. While I’m doing this of course, I’m also beating your naked back with a splintered AFX racing track. It adds a whole dimension to the game, and to your back.   (more…)

The Only Difference Between You and an Expert Is Four Appearances on a Cable News Show

When I take public transportation, people come up to me and ask me the same question over and over again: “Why are you staring at me?” And also: “How come you don’t have experts on your television show?” The answer? It’s a glass eye, and experts are phonies. The easiest way to pawn yourself off as an expert is to tell people you’re an expert. Then appear on a talk show. Sex experts, steroid experts, latte experts—they’re all shams.

Here’s why: With a thousand TV channels and countless talking heads needed to fill time, no one really performs background checks. Yeah, they’ll Google your name, but that’s about it. I have, after all, pawned myself off on a number of shows as a relationship expert. God, if you only knew how my exes feel about that! Thankfully, they would never admit to dating me.  (more…)

Garry Trudeau Is an Untalented Sack of Poop

If Doonesbury did not relentlessly spout knee-jerk liberal tripe in every panel, it would not exist. It’s the only cartoon given tenure—in that the media cut Garry Trudeau slack because they all believe his heart is in the right place, even though his stuff sucks harder than something that really sucks.

But in our hearts, we all know the truth: The strip is neither amusing nor interesting. Worse, the dude can’t draw for shit. Essentially, Trudeau has been a recipient of comic strip welfare his entire career. No one has had the guts to cut him off. It’s too bad, because Funky Winkerbean really deserves his spot.  (more…)

BOOK REVIEW: Greg Gutfeld’s ‘Bible of Unspeakable Truths’

by Leigh Scott

A few weeks back, Big Hollywood editor John Nolte asked me for my address. He wanted to send me an advanced copy of Greg Gutfeld’s new book “The Bible of Unspeakable Truths.” I thought “sweet, free book.”

But if you’ve ever read, as I have, Milton Friedman you would know that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Everything has a cost. This is a simple fact. A fact I wish people who supported Obamacare understood.

robinhoodusatoday

Anyway, he wanted me to read the book and review it. A ha…not so free anymore is it?

Book reviews have always bothered me. Reviewing a movie or an album is okay because the written review criticizes a different medium. Whenever I read a book review, I can’t help but wonder how bitter the reviewer must be. After all, who wants to write 1000 word reviews of books for loser papers like the New York Times? Wouldn’t the same person, a person who has dedicated their life to wordsmithing rather have their thoughts printed in a fancy hard covered edition? Instead, their stuff is printed on something you use to pick up the presents that Fido leaves on the neighbor’s lawn. Book critics are bitter losers. I’m glad I’m not one of them.

This review is particularly strange because instead of reading this, you could have already read one of Greg’s amusing and insightful observations and anecdotes. Unlike most books, his is a collection of short little parables that use humor to make a point. Some of them are a page. Some of them are a few sentences. All of them are really funny and smart.
