Taxpayers bail out a corporation and the corporation spends money to sponsor a Chinese propaganda film. This is how the game works with the Left. Think about it… Taxpayers fund Planned Parenthood and then that abortion mill turns around and spends money to get Democrats elected. Taxpayers pay the salaries of public government employees and in some states (like Wisconsin) a portion of those salaries is garnished to pay dues to unions that spend millions to elect Democrats. How much corporate welfare does Hollywood receive? Almost every day we read about how the film industry is singled out for another special tax break that translates into a whole lot more money to funnel to Democrats.

See how this works?

On a regular basis, your hard-earned money is used against your own political interests; all thanks in part to a legalized money-laundering scheme created and sustained by your own government. Read on…

Terrific work from Kerry Picket in the Washington Times:

In late 2010, General Motors agreed to sponsor a propaganda film celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The CCP made film titled (translated to English) “The Birth of a Party” or “The Great Achievement of Founding the Party” is set to premiere all over the Communist nation on June 15 reported China AutoWeb last September. …

The United States government currently own 33% of the GM company following the auto-bailouts of 2009, and GM CEO Daniel Akerson describes China, as the “key to [GM's] success.” (h/t The Detroit Bureau)

Presently, GM’s business in China is selling more autos in the Asian country than in the United States. The Washington Post noted last week that China was GM’s solution to help the car-maker recover from bankruptcy[.] …

Along with concern over China’s ownership of trillions of dollars of U.S. debt, it is truly troubling that an American company financially supported now by the U.S. taxpayer is happily promoting Communist propaganda that glosses over the atrocities of the Chinese Cultural Revolution.

There is a lot that a person can learn from watching “Scarface.” While most of the lessons involve how to build a drug distribution empire, alternative uses for a chainsaw, and what not to do with your tongue when trying to impress a young lady, this movie also gives us some insight into the nature of Michael Moore. There is a scene in the film where Tony Montana’s boss, Frank Lopez, is describing what a “chazzer” is. Frank describes the term “chazzer” as a Yiddish word for “pig.” In the world of “Scarface,” one of the traits of a chazzer is that “He don’t fly straight no more.” This is the perfect description of Mr. Moore.

I am not calling Michael a pig because he hasn’t seen his toes since zoot suits were in fashion, or that he seems like the type who roots around the snack cake aisle at the supermarket like a hog rooting for truffles. I am calling him a pig because all objective evidence points to the fact that he fits the definition of chazzer. Michael is a pig that doesn’t fly straight.

OBAMA AND ME

Michael Moore first rolled onto the American scene when he made the film “Roger and Me.” This movie was about the evils of General Motors and how the callous pursuit of profits by then CEO, Roger Smith, resulted in American plant closures and the unemployment of thousands of union workers. At this point in his career he was very interested in what was going on with the world’s biggest auto producer (at the time) and how it affected the working man.

After the bankruptcy of GM, Obama’s federal government took control of the car company with the treasury owning 60% of the automaker. Instead of becoming the sort of workers’ paradise that would cause Moore to spontaneously combust with joy, it would seem they continued the exact sort of business practices that inspired Moore to attack the Roger Smith run GM so many years ago.

Today, one of the worst kept secrets in the auto industry is that GM forces a number of their suppliers to outsource work to less expensive nations. This is not done with subtle pressure and code words. Outsourcing is written right into the suppliers contracts. In many cases the supplier is required to outsource 25% or more of their work to countries that are deemed “emerging nations.” Countries on this list include India, China, and Brazil. Ignore the Democrat rhetoric about outsourcing, the White House has decided that keeping these jobs away from American’s is good for the bottom line. Considering his past works, shouldn’t Michael Moore be outraged, or at least curious, about this?

OUTSOURCED THAT

In his book, “Outsource This,” Michael Moore called companies who receive government tax breaks “corporate welfare mothers.” With that said, he has been MIA on the subject of GE, a multi-billion dollar company, paying no corporate income tax in 2010. Oh sure, he released a brief tweet or two on the subject, but this is far from the passionate crusades that had him blaming the Bush Administration for everything from giving the nation away to Wall Street to the conspiracies around the existence of Big Foot and how he may have factored into the Kennedy assassination.

If Michael Moore had a shred of intellectual honesty he would have his cameras on the steps of the White House, asking some very intriguing questions. For example, how did Jeffrey R. Immelt, the CEO of General Electric, manage to not only completely escape any taxes on his company, but also somehow find himself the recipient of a presidential appointment as the Chairperson of the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. Maybe some of those questions could involve the near half million dollars GE contributed to the Obama campaign, or maybe the priceless air support that Barry Hussein received from NBC News and MSNBC; both owned at the time by GE. Naaaaaaah that’s simply not as compelling as making films that suggest that the Cuban health care system is better than the one in the USA.

SENIORS UNPLUGGED

The debate, passing, and signing into law of Obamacare was full of deception, payoffs, violations of the law, and the sort of ethics that would make Castro look like Gandhi by comparison. This would be a target rich environment for any filmmaker who wanted to expose the government abuse. What most folks, including Michael Moore, have missed is that health care shifts the class warfare debate to something a bit more evil than the haves vs. the have nots. If Moore were to take the Al Franken blinders off and see what is going on, he would notice that the “class warfare” in health care has shifted from rich and poor to old and young. In a recess appointment, Obama crowned Donald Berwick the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Berwick is an aggressive advocate of health care rationing. His feelings on the issue became clear when he said “the decision is not whether or not we will ration care, the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open.” To ensure that that rationing of care was institutionalized, the Senate rules were changed to protect the Independent Payment Advisory Board (the bureaucrats/death panel in charge of rationing). It now takes a 2/3rds, super majority in congress to dissolve this board.

Despite what the liberals say, most of us have some say in whether we will fall into the rich or poor category. We live in a meritocracy where hard work and innovation will allow most of us to take care of ourselves. Most people who complain about the high cost of insurance premiums also seem to have cell phone accounts, upgraded cable packages, multiple televisions, etc. So in many cases the decision between an iPhone data package with all the bells and whistles and paying for your own insurance simply comes down to what a person values. In a rationed health care environment, where the young will get most of the services and the elderly will be treated like a beloved pooch who has outlived its usefulness, there is nothing we can do. Ponce de León never found the fountain of youth so those who are retired will need to watch their backs when they stop paying into an overstressed system and begin simply accepting Social Security payments. Their end of life care may become part of a government cost cutting effort. There is probably a movie in there somewhere. Of course not one that Michael Moore will ever make.

CLEAN MONEY AND UNION RUN LAUNDROMATS

Public sector unions give millions of dollars to Democrat candidates. When Democrat candidates are elected, they give public sector unions sweetheart deals. When the unions need more money, the same elected Democrats expand the size of their local governments, and bring in more union employees, whose dues will make their way into election war chests of Democrat candidates. Workers, in most cases, have no choice whether or not they join a union, and have no control over what the union does with the dues they are forced to pay. Does something seem wrong here? Of course if Caterpillar or the Koch brothers dare give money to any conservative candidates, Moore will be there to cry foul.

THIN THIGHS IN THIRTY DAYS, THE MOVIE

This one is self explanatory.

Imagine there was a bank — you know, one of those evil fat cat banks the Obama Administration loves to hold up as Economic Bogeyman — that had taken a large piece of financial backing from The Federal Government. Now imagine there was a guy working at that bank for 17 years who was a rising star in the financial world and who landed a big promotion after the bailout of this bank. Then suddenly this rising star isn’t performing so well. The profits in his division are down. He has a contract, but because times are tough and the guy’s falling performance the bank gives him the ax.

So the guy makes a big stink and demands that if he is going to be replaced the bank has to buy out his contract.

The bank offers him 30 million dollars to take a hike.

“That isn’t good enough,” the guy says. Not only does he want his money but since he is being let go a lot of his staff will also lose their jobs. So he demands another 12 million so they all enjoy a soft landing.

The bank says “ok” and pays out the money.

How do you think the Obama Administration would have reacted? What do you think the coverage of this event would have been in the mainstream media? I think there would have been all sorts of outrage in the press and on TV. I also think every leftie from President Obama to Nancy Pelosi to David Axelrod would be screaming about getting our money back from these thieves.

So why is nobody screaming about the huge failure-bonus being paid with our money to Conan O‘Brien? Because that is exactly what the money NBC paid to O’Brien is; a huge golden parachute for failing on The Tonight Show. More importantly, it’s money from the people of the United States. I wish I had a blackboard so I could go a little Glenn Beck on you, but follow me for a minute.

NBC, National Barack Communications, and its other so-called news outlets like MSNBC, are a part of General Electric. General Electric is run by Obama loyalist and advisor Jeffrey Immelt, who until recently allowed GE to continue to do business with Iran through middlemen, as documented by Bill O’Reilly. General Electric, as part of the economic bailout, received billions in loan guarantees for its GE Capital division. So why no Obama outrage over a company that took our money and paid out huge dough to an under-performer? Why no Tim Geithner or Larry Summers demanding that salaries at GE and its subsidiaries be kept to $500,000?

Imagine if Conan had a real job, perhaps at a bank or one of those evil health insurance companies the current administration loves to demonize, and he dropped the business by half when he took over. Would the President and his friends be alright with him walking away with a huge payout? Why is it cool to honor Mr. O’Brien’s contract but not the contracts of hundreds of bankers and other Wall Street employees who at one time actually made money for their employers?

My theory is that like AIG and GM, Conan was too big to fail!

Side Note: Why is it that Mr. Obama wants to make sure there are no banks that are too big to fail but doesn’t feel the same about car companies? Could it be that car companies have union employees whose bosses funnel hundreds of millions from their members’ dues to the Democrat Party?

I do a line in my act that’s often copied about how if you want the government to run health care you need to spend a little more time at the DMV. However the Obama administration has given us a new benchmark in government ineptness. If you’re looking forward to the government running our health care system perhaps you should look over at the CARS program. If you think that a quickly cranked out complex government program is what’s best for the economy or health care check out the so called Cash for Clunkers debacle.

The idea was simple, offer an incentive to get people out of gas guzzlers and help boost lagging car sales. I don’t know why the auto industry was chosen for a big corporate welfare handout instead of the furniture or big screen TV folks. It may have something to do with the government owning a big hunk of the auto industry and therefore being on the hook for future pension and health care costs. Which, if I may offer a quick civics lesson review, means that you and I are now the proud owners of the Old GM obligations.

To get back to my point, if there’s anything hated by lawyers and government bureaucrats alike, it is simplicity. I could write the rules for the program in several paragraphs but then the average consumer and auto dealer would be able to understand them and several thousand government hacks would have nothing to do. The regulations covering the program run over 140 pages! Over one hundred and forty pages on what cars are eligible for trade and purchase.

There were warning signs that this was going to be a typical government balls up. At the end of the first week of July I went to several dealerships to check out what the deal was with cashing in on welfare for the United Auto Worker. No one had a clue and the program was scheduled to start in less than two weeks. Once the program got underway the EPA started “reevaluating” the gas mileage of a number of vehicles, making some cars that had been turned in no longer eligible!

Since then the government has been rejecting hundreds of application which seem to be valid. The government has no idea how many cars have been purchased under this program. The backlog of rebates after only five days is so enormous that no one knows how much has been spent, how many cars have been purchased or if there’s any money left.

Lack of money has never been a problem that the Federal Government couldn’t overcome. The House voted to triple the amount of money for the CARS program. Why triple? Why not, that seems like a good number. There is, of course, no logic or mathematics behind the increase. Like many government numbers it was pulled from the air like a bunch of flowers in a magician’s trick.

You don’t want to look at the logic behind the whole program too deeply either. If this idea is a way to jump-start the auto business, why didn’t we just take the 150 plus billion we have already poured into GM and Chrysler and have a mega CARS program where we offered 10 grand to the first 1.5 million folks who wanted to buy a new car? If the idea was to reduce carbon emissions and gas usage, please don’t do the math as to how little be saved by getting 250,000 people to get 5 or 6 MPG more while driving.

So think about the President saying his health care plan will be cost neutral while you are down at the DMV registering your CARS car and hoping your voucher processes properly so you aren’t on the hook for the $4500 you were promised.

On Dec. 12, 1974, my grandparents were driving home when a vehicle traveling 50 miles per hour hit them. On March 17, 2002, I was driving home when a vehicle driving traveling 50 miles per hour hit me.

My grandparents were killed instantly. I lived. My grandparents were driving an AMC Gremlin. I was driving a Dodge 3500 diesel dually pickup truck.

AMC is now out of business. Dodge Trucks are still selling well. The free market decided that we didn’t need AMC Gremlins.

I still drive a Dodge dually. We factor in safety versus miles per gallon on every automobile purchase that my wife and I make. Devo could not have said it better: “Freedom of Choice…It’s what you want!” Freedom to choose is a basic American right. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness are guaranteed to me and 299,999,999 other Americans by the Constitution.

Mr. President, I did not give you nor the Federal Government permission to use my tax dollars to bailout Chrysler or GM. Neither did any of my friends. We did not have a choice in that matter.

We all knew that GM and Chrysler were headed for bankruptcy. So be it. It would be a hit to the American economy. Yep. Let’s take the hit and move on. I believe President Obama, that you knew that GM and Chrysler were headed to bankruptcy as well, but by giving them our money first, you were able to seize control of the American auto industry. In one fell swoop, you became the head of GM and Chrysler. You turned the United Auto Workers Union into GM and Chrysler owners. You nailed the coffin shut on Ford, the one manufacturer who turned down your money (…our money). How is Ford going to negotiate wages with a union that is now also their competitor?

Mr. President, you have created an army of Czars that are answerable only to you. Our Constitution says that only Congress has the power to create taxes and they are answerable to the people. Not only does our new car Czar not answer to Congress, he won’t even go on Neil Cavuto. Where is the transparency, Mr. President?

But I digress. Your administration has already strong-armed the auto industry into accepting mileage compliances for their new vehicles. Michael Moore is giddy with the fact that the US Government now owns 60% of GM. He wants you to end the auto industry as we know it. According to him, GM should only produce bullet trains, buses and hybrids. If the two of you have your way, Americans will no longer be able to purchase a GMC SUV or a big Dodge truck.

Our family car is a General Motors Hummer H2. I am sure you are familiar with the brand and model; you just sold them to China. China may not want our debt, but they will still take our SUVs.

It is fairly common for us to get cut off and then flipped the finger by eco-saints whenever we drive into the city. Several times we only narrowly avoided a serious freeway accident. Quite often, Mr. President, these cars have bumper stickers with your name on them. These self-righteous “Earth Savers” feel completely justified in their actions as they curse at my children and me because they are only offending and risking the lives of people who are riding in a “planet killer.” The fact that we heat our house with reclaimed wood, run almost 100% of our ranch on solar power, grow our own fruits and vegetables, and for the three weeks out of the year when our dirt road washes out, the only way in or out of our ranch is in a 4×4 Hummer or it’s equivalent, never enters into their sanctimonious consciousness.

I see this same kind of prejudice in your speeches and your actions Mr. President. I see this same arrogance as you steer our nation away from free enterprise and into the arms of the Central Planning Committee.

Last week, my wife was rear-ended by a driver who never even hit his brakes. His truck slammed into my wife at 50 miles per hour.

I thank God that the Germans put good steel in their vehicles and know a little something about engineering. If my wife had been driving an AMC Gremlin, she would probably be dead now.

Soon my children will be driving and buying cars of their own. Mr. President, will you allow them to have freedom of choice or will you doom them to take their chances in a 21st century AMC Gremlin?

When you spend a few trillion bucks you don’t have, at some point you need to come up with a plan to pay that money back. If you don’t, you look bad and no messianic cult figure ever wants to look like he doesn’t know what’s up. If you are a working stiff you have two ways to get money to pay off your debts, earn more or spend less. If you own the printing press like the Federal Government you have another option, create inflation. For example, if you printed enough money to cause inflation to rise by a factor of ten you could pay back a trillion dollars of debt with money that is in reality only worth 100 billion. The down side of that is that milk ends up costing thirty-three dollars a gallon.

Another thing a government can do to raise revenue to pay off their debt is expand the economy. That one is tough when you have just bought GM, AIG and are getting ready to nationalize health care. Corporate types aren’t too keen to expand their businesses when Uncle Sam is looking to control them.

A third option is to raise taxes. When President Obama was still candidate Obama he promised not to raise taxes on the middle class. At least I think that’s what he said, or did he say income taxes? Then too, there was a little vacillation on what was meant by middle class. Was it earners over $250,000 or $150,000?

If President Obama were to take all of the money from the top five percent of all folks in the country I’m not sure he could raise the eleven or twelve trillion needed to pay off the debt. Since he has painted himself into a corner with the income tax pledge he has asked a blue ribbon panel to come up with some ideas for raising revenue. Here are their recommendations:

The Ambition Tax: It’s really not fair that you are willing to do more that someone else. That un-levels the playing field and gives you an advantage over lazy people who live around you. Take a second job and you pay more! Start a business and meet your new partner, Uncle Sam. You go back to school to try to get ahead, pay up sucker!

The Tax Tax: If you can afford to pay taxes you obviously have money. If you have money you can afford to pay more. The more you have already paid the more you can afford to pay. I know it sounds like circular logic but circular logic works because circular logic works!

Gun Tax: The second amendment has a loophole so big you could drive a national debt through it! By taxing guns and bullets we could suck dry the coffers of the NRA and gun owners. The beauty of this is that when the economic crisis is over the gun nuts and the NRA will be as broke as GM!

The Flush Tax: People who eat too much could be spending less money on food and more on the government. This proposal would have the government put flush meters on all toilets and charge surtax per flush. This would have the added benefit of decreasing carbon emissions.

The Talk Radio Tax: Since liberal talk radio is an oxymoron and limited to the publicly funded NPR we can eliminate the competition and raise a ton of cash by taxing ads places on talk radio shows.

News broke last week that Laurie David, former wife of Larry David (of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame), was fined for wetlands violations at her Martha’s Vineyard home – and it wasn’t the first time, either:

The property owned by Ms. David off North Road was the subject of a series of wetlands violations in 2005, when construction of a stone fire pit, barbecue grill area and wooden stage for a children’s theatre with seating was begun in a wetland without a permit.

Ms. David, as you may recall, produced the Goracle’s epic documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. She also wrote The Down-to-Earth Guide to Global Warming for children (doing her part to convince one in three frightened children that the earth will implode before they grow up), and went on a much ballyhooed bus tour with fellow greenie Sheryl “One Sheet” Crow in order to help Save The Earth™ a couple of years back. How riding around the country in an exhaust-spewing bus and using up oodles of electricity for Sheryl’s musical stylings was supposed to “help” is beyond me. But wait, the bus was powered by vegetable oil instead of that dastardly fossil fuel, and pal Sheryl is committed to being green by driving a hybrid and using cold water to wash her clothes. Forgive my cynicism; I’m convinced.

Fortunately for Ms. David, her contractor was fully prepared to take the heat:

The new infractions occurred during the construction of a tennis court. Workers installed a makeshift road with boards and stones and drove heavy machinery across the resources area making a path to the tennis court site. Attempts to reach Ms. David were unsuccessful but Bart Thorpe, who said he is the contractor on the job, took full responsibility for the violations yesterday.

“She’s obviously a very busy person and she trusted the contractor, just like last time,” he said. “And I inadvertently made a mistake. It’s something she had no knowledge of and had nothing to do with, and it’s a minor thing.”

Perhaps, as “the boss,” the buck should stop with Ms. David. But it’s all in a day’s work for the “do as I say” celebrity set. David’s in good company with folks like Arianna Huffington for her penchant for flying on corporate jets while decrying the evils of SUVs and the like.

That’s okay, though, because as Laurie herself once said:

“Yes, I take a private plane on holiday a couple of times a year, and I feel horribly guilty about it. I probably shouldn’t do it. But the truth is, I’m not perfect. This is not about perfection. I don’t expect anybody else to be perfect either. That’s what hurts the environmental movement – holding people to a standard they cannot meet. That just pushes people away.”

Frankly, it’s hard to know what she expects. She seems to be all over the place.

But perhaps Ms. David is unaware that these days, more people are concerned about the fate of the economy than their culpability in so-called anthropogenic global warming. Being able to afford gas in order to get to a job that may be in jeopardy has become more important.

And as for the claim by global warming activists that the “debate is over” among scientists, she obviously hasn’t spoken to Dr. Jim Buckee, who says that:

…far from warming, the Earth is set to enter a 20-year cooling period. Dr Buckee believes human behaviour has no effect on the climate and the vast sums spent by governments trying to promote renewable energy to cut greenhouse gas emissions are being wasted. Far from being a key cause of climate change, he says, carbon dioxide emissions have little or no impact. … Instead of human activities being responsible for the warming climate over the past 100 years, Dr Buckee insists there is a natural explanation, based on the activity of the Sun. Solar activity can affect the cosmic rays that reach the Earth’s atmosphere, and this in turn affects the climate, he says.

Then again, it’s no longer chic to call it “global warming.” A switch to the term “climate change” conveniently covers all bases, so it’s still naughty to drink out of a plastic bottle or purchase a car larger than a golf cart – or purchase any car at all, for that matter. (No worries, our glorious leader is taking care of that with his big plans for GM.)

Homes on both coasts, ski trips to Aspen, irresponsible home improvements, and a member of the private jet set – yep, Laurie David is just the one I plan to call when I have serious questions about the environment.
