Grass is Green, Water’s Wet, Roger Ebert’s a Hypocrite

by Hollywoodland

Michael C. Moynihan in Reason:

In a recent blog post upbraiding Glenn Beck for his reckless invocations of Nazism and Communism, Roger Ebert, the boring movie critic turned heavy-breathing political blogger, laments the “increasing tendency of the extreme right to automatically describe its opponents in negative buzz words.” Couldn’t agree more, Roger. But wait! Here he is, offering a warm encomium to American Taliban and Moulitsas, who “alerts us to a clear and present danger in America: radical zealots who disregard our Constitution and our freedoms and who disguise themselves as patriots.”

0_61_082407_RogerEbert

In Ebert’s post on Beck, he rightly bemoans the lazy use of Nazi references, “This whole argument is described by a term widely familiar on the internet (sic), the (sic) reductio ad Hitlerum. It is also known, Wikipedia explains, as playing the Nazi card.” But that’s only when the other side calls people fascists; when Ebert does it, it’s with a certain measure of precision and élan. So in a more recent post, Ebert writes that, in her silly effusions on the so-called Ground Zero mosque, Sarah Palin “employs the methodology of the Big Lie, defined in Mein Kampf as an untruth so colossal that ‘no one would believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.’” No need to explain the implication. Exclusive: James Cameron’s Chickened Out of Global Warming Debates Before

by Dan Gifford

A mere week after director James Cameron won a Chicken Award for running away from a climate change debate challenge he had made to Andrew Breitbart, filmmaker Ann McElhinney and Marc Morano, it has been confirmed that the Oscar-winner now deserves  a second Chicken Award for similarly refusing to take “yes” for an answer regarding an earlier climate change debate he had demanded with syndicated radio talk host Rusty Humphries.

CHICKENS.two chickens

You’ll recall that Cameron hectored to the world, “I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads,” and then just last week through a proxy, invited Breitbart & Co. to battle him before an audience of committed global warming believers in Aspen.

I have just learned that an earlier challenge to Humphries made by this same proxy, environmental activist Richard Greene, followed the same nonsensical pattern that involves Cameron inviting you, encouraging you to incur costs, and then finding an absurd reason to cancel at the last minute. Humphries tells his story: (more…)

GLOBAL WARMING: Is James Cameron a Genocidal Maniac?

by John Nolte

Either James Cameron is a genocidal maniac or a black-hearted liar. How else to explain the vast divide between his words and deeds? Yesterday on “Hardball,” Cameron ripped we Global Cooling Global Warming Climate Change deniers as “dangerous.” The takeaway from the interview is that the director really, really, really believes that consumerism and energy consumption put our planet in peril.

—–

Okay, fine. But then why is he trying to kill us all off with his own lifestyle? Forget about the mansion he currently resides in, look at how his work contributes to the extinction of all life on Earth.

  1. The energy consumed to make films.
  2. The energy consumed to distribute his films worldwide.
  3. The energy consumed to promote them.
  4. The energy consumed by those going to see them.
  5. The energy consumed to create, distribute and promote DVDs
  6. The inevitable landfill waste that comes with millions and millions of DVDs produced all over the world.

If you take Cameron at his word regarding his fevered belief that Climate Change is real and man made, the next logical question can only be: James, why then are you so aggressively engaging in the kind of behavior you yourself believe will destroy Mother Earth? (more…)

Lonewolf Diaries: Hollywood Liberals Say “Proof is For Fruitcakes!”

by Steven Crowder

Glenn Beck personally called James Cameron the Antichrist. Tea Party protesters repeatedly yelled “racial epithets” such as “n*gger” and “f*ggot” to members of Congress. I don’t even want to have to mention the myriad vulgarities that Mr. Sean Penn has had to endure from his hate-mongering critics. Those far-right bad apples… Don’t they know that they’re going to spoil it for the rest of us?

aaaaaaa

There’s only one problem with all of the following examples: there is no evidence that any of those events have occurred.

Ever.

Firstly, let’s examine the claim that Glenn Beck called James Cameron the Antichrist. To hear the story in mainstream media, Glenn Beck came face-to-face with Mr. Cameron and proceeded to accuse him of being the anti-Christ. The rock-solid source for this one was none other than the blue-man-group fetishist himself. If James Cameron says it, it HAS to be true! (more…)

James Cameron – I Accept

by Ann McElhinney

“I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads.” –James Cameron

James Cameron I accept your offer, I’ll even drive myself to your gigantic gated Malibu double mansion to shoot it out.

ChickenLittleWallpaper1024

It appears some negative comments about the nonsensical politics of “Avatar” by me and others did not go unnoticed by the richest man in Hollywood who described the criticism as “ranting.”

So again James Cameron I accept your invitation and I will participate in a public discussion. I think it’s important for the man who uses 1000% more mined resources than the average American, lives in a home 1000% bigger than the average American and drives/flies 1000% more than the average American to explain how the Average American is destroying the planet.  (more…)

Beck Fires Back at Cameron: Why Do You Want to Murder Global Warming Skeptics?

by Big Hollywood

—–

Beck makes a completely fool of Cameron. Not a difficult thing to do, but no one does it like Beck. A brutal takedown done the very best way: with smarts, facts and a smile.

“The best part is, this guy has carried around this joke around for three long years. The guy’s making a billion dollars on a Smurf-murdering movie and he’s stewing about a joke nobody heard on a network that nobody watched.”

James Cameron Calls Glenn Beck Out: Let’s Debate You ‘F—ing A–hole’

by John Nolte

ff_avatar_cameron1_f

UPDATE: Note the environment Cameron’s in when he’s lashed out at conservative “Avatar” critics:

  • According to the Hollywood Reporter Cameron called Beck a f–king a–hole “surrounded by journalists inside a West Hollywood hillside mansion.”
  • Last month Cameron took on his right-wing critics in a Hollywood Cafe while being interviewed by an L.A. Times reporter.
  • In January the Malibu Mansion Dweller gave us hell from the Arclight Theatre at a screening for Hollywood Insiders.

Interesting. And with that I end the update.

Uh, oh, James Cameron’s angry and you know how James gets when he’s angry… Stupid:

“Glenn Beck is a f—ing a–hole,” he said, according to The Associated Press. “I’ve met him. He called me the Antichrist, and not about ‘Avatar.’ He hadn’t even seen ‘Avatar’ yet. I don’t know if he has seen it.” …

“I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads,” Cameron said. “Anybody that is a global-warming denier at this point in time has got their head so deeply up their a–, I’m not sure they could hear me.”

Cameron said conservative criticism of the environmental message of “Avatar” aren’t necessarily attacks. “They’re just people ranting away, lost in their little bubbles of reality, steeped in their own hatred, their own fear and hatred,” he said. “That’s where it all comes from. Let’s just call it out. Let’s have a public discussion. That’s what movies are supposed to do, you know. You can have a mindless entertainment film that doesn’t affect anybody. I wasn’t interested in that.”

My first question for Mr. Global Warming would be to ask why a mansion-dweller so concerned with the welfare of the planet would initially release ”Avatar” on DVD and Blu-ray with no extras whatsoever. (more…)

‘REPUGLICANS’: Comics Defend the Establishment

by James Hudnall

Boom! Studios, a minor comic book publisher, is putting out a 128 digest sized title attacking Republicans called “Repuglicans”. It’s produced by artist Pete Von Sholly with commentary by writer Steve Tatham. The cover shows Sarah Palin as some kind of pox ridden vampire with Glenn Beck as a zombie, Ann Coulter as a ghoul and Lou Dobbs looking kind of annoyed. I suppose that’s supposed to be scary in lefty land.

Artist Sholly claims it shows “…the true face of the right, and it’s not pretty.”

repuglicans-boom_02

Isn’t it funny when artists try to come off as “rebels” by defending the mainstream? I mean, the Republicans are out of power. The Dems have controlled Congress for the last four years. So let’s show how brave we are by attacking the party out of power! Stick it to the man, man!

The cover blurb says: “They came to feed on the body politic!” So, they’re bad for the country? Is that what they’re saying?

Until Scott Brown was elected recently, the Democrats has a filibuster proof majority. So how are the Republicans a threat exactly? Oh yeah, the public views congress with a 73% disapproval rating. Yes, the one controlled by the Democrats for the last four years. So let’s blame the Republicans, man! (more…)

Super and Not So Super Ads: Will.i.am? Green Police?

by Jeffrey Jena

Super Bowl ads have become a competition themselves and are often better than the game. At a reported cost of over $3 million for a thirty-second spot it would be hard for me to imagine that any of the ads are cost effective but it’s not my money, so roll the tape!  Judging from some ads there are either a lot of advertisers who don’t want conservatives to buy their products or a there are a lot of liberals making television advertisements.

Qualcomm’s combined leftist ideology and male bashing in its two ads featuring a guy who is “spineless” and a heavy political video montage by Obama idolater Will.i.am. I guess his stage name is supposed to be clever but it makes me think he was just raised on a little too much Dr. Seuss. Can you imagine the flack a company would get if it let Ann Coulter or Glenn Beck produce a video montage for its Super Bowl commercial? Watch the above clip for visuals of everything from Castro to Al Gore “winning” Florida.

Stand Up Notes From Flyover Country: Stewart Vs. O’Reilly

by Jeffrey Jena

When I heard that Jon Stewart was going to sit down for an interview with Bill O’Reilly, I had to tune in. As a comic I have a great respect for Stewart. We couldn’t be further apart on a number of political issues but along with Lewis Black and Will Durst he is a left-wing comic who isn’t afraid to skewer his own side when it needs it. He’s not exactly an equal opportunity mocker but at least he’s willing to admit his side has a few dunderheads too. He cut his comedy teeth on the club circuit and has great writing and performance chops.

alg_stewart_oreilly_split

Bill O’Reilly is a sharp interviewer and most of the times willing to ask the tough questions and not worry if the guest will be coming back. I think it will be a long time before President Obama grows the cajones for a round two with Mr. O’Reilly. John McCain didn’t even have the spine for round one.

It’s also obvious that Mr. O’Reilly and Mr. Stewart have a mutual respect and a good relationship. I think a few times during the interview it kept Mr. O’Reilly from following up with Stewart and let his lay down a few years of liberal rubber in the “no spin zone.”  At times it seemed more Leno Show than a news interview. When Stewart accused Fox News of  being a “cyclonic perpetual emotional machine that is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week…” it didn’t seem that O’Reilly had his new buddy, Glenn Beck’s back as much as I would have liked him to, but hey that’s just me. That is my only criticism of this otherwise funny and enjoyable two-day interview. It was excellent television. (more…)

TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz: Political Cheap Shots Damage Beloved Network

by Leo Grin

Late last spring, through the auspices of a mutual friend, I spent an afternoon visiting with eighty-nine-year-old author Ray Bradbury. Walking upstairs to his den, I found the genial (and, for the record, fairly conservative) writer dressed in a rumpled shirt and boxer shorts, surrounded by a sea of awards and papers and memorabilia of every description, and happily watching Turner Classic Movies on a big-screen TV. “Isn’t this channel great?” he enthused, telling me how excited he had been to guest host there a year earlier. We spent the next hour talking about films — his early days as a local boy visiting the studios on roller skates and asking stars for autographs, his long friendship with special effects maven Ray Harryhausen, his experience writing the screenplay to Moby Dick (1956) for director John Huston.

And all the while TCM played in the background, like an old friend.

87913189

I’ve since reflected on how Turner Classic Movies has grown over the years into one of the most universally admired cultural forums in America. It’s a familiar presence in households of all political persuasions. If you like old movies, you like TCM, period.

That’s why the mini-uproar here at Big Hollywood last week was so disheartening. For those of you who missed it: during an on-air introduction to the 1957 movie A Face in the Crowd, TCM host Ben Mankiewicz gave legions of conservative viewers a collective poke in the eye, by way of a not-so-veiled sneer at talk-show host Glenn Beck. You can see the sad spectacle for yourself by clicking over to the TCM website, but here are the money quotes: (more…)

The Christmas of ’09: Riding The Rhone

by Michael Moriarty

Despite the darkening clouds of increasingly Marxist/Islamic sympathies in the White House (“This is no longer just a Christian nation …”, said the President) and regardless of the Obama Nation’s success at “fundamentally transforming the United States of America” into the Obama Nation … Americans are still celebrating both Christmas and Hanukkah.

Such a time of profoundly important Judeo-Christian sacredness, with our pride in its significance increasingly muzzled by “Progressively political correctness”, should and, I believe, will be honored more deeply because of the inferential shame our New World Order leadership would like to immerse it in.

080315-wright-obama-hmed-7a_hmedium

Apparently, and for the entire history of America, its Judeo-Christian roots have been, in the eyes of Progressives, one of our nation’s incessant problems, and the main reason the United States has found it impossible to join the … uh … “community of nations”.

“Is this another diatribe, another imbecilic slap at the United Nations, Mr. Moriarty?!”

Yes … among other shots at the Progressive certainty over the apparently incontestable New World Order. (more…)

Stand Up Notes From Flyover Country: Pressure ‘Law & Order’ Advertisers

by Jeffrey Jena

I’ve noticed a lot of my brothers and sisters on the right are up in arms at Law & Order: SVU after last week’s episode. I did not see the whole episode in question but did see a clip where a character played by John Larroquette mentions three well know conservative talk show hosts and calls them a cancer on the land.

la

Before I get rolling, in the spirit of full disclosure I will admit to being a Law & Order junkie. My DVR is full of my favorite Law & Order: Criminal Intent episodes, which is by far the strongest of the three series. I will also admit that in my mind Law & Order: SVU is to the Law & Order brand what Deep Space Nine was to the Star Trek brand. It is a weak cousin that may have been spreading the brand a little too thin. (more…)

INTERVIEW: Michael Moriarty On Obama, Palin, NBC, Beck and…Gutfeld?

by Alicia Colon

[Editor's Note: This is a small portion of a comprehensive interview that  originally appeared in the Irish Examiner on Monday, November 24th. You can read the full piece here.]

Recently I was sent an email complaining about the season premier of the TV Show, “Law & Order.” My correspondent asked what I thought about the plot in which the local Manhattan district attorney Jack McCoy prosecuted a former Justice Department lawyer for “depraved indifference murder” following the lawyer’s memo on the techniques which could be used on terrorists. An astonished “Executive Assistant DA Michael Cutter says, “Jack, you want to prosecute a member of the Bush administration for assaulting suspected terrorists?” To which, a cocksure “McCoy” declares: “The word is torturing. And, yes, it’s about time somebody did.”

stone-2

The increasingly leftwing comments injected into the plots of this once fine show had turned me off many seasons ago and I answered my reader, “I haven’t watched that show much since they replaced Michael Moriarty as the lead in 1994.

Mr. Moriarty has always been one of my favorite actors and given that he is an Irish American, I thought he’d be the perfect lead off to a series of interviews with notable Americans of Irish ancestry. I was thrilled to be able to connect with Mr. Moriarty, who now lives in Canada, and he graciously agreed to this Q&A interview. (more…)
