Stand Up Notes From Flyover Country: Janeane Is Off Her Meds and Other Stories

by Jeffrey Jena

I happened to see some clips of alleged Janeane Garofalo on the Bill Maher show the other night. I have a warning for anyone who sees her in person or is near her: Janeane is off her meds again and the voices in her head have taken control.

She is already on record as believing that anyone who does not worship at the Church of Radical Leftism is a “straight up racist.” Beside not understanding the English translation of her argot “straight up,” I am sure that anyone who is even a little bit clear headed can imagine a world where people who thought Condi was dandy and helped Michael Steele get to the helm of the GOP might not take race as the deciding factor with Obama. Be that as it may, Ms. Garofalo assured us that not only were right-wingers racists, but the GOP has been the bastion of White Supremacy since the 1950’s.

Keeping in mind one of the favorite saying of my friend Larry Elder, “Facts are like kryptonite to toe-tag liberals.” (Mr. Elder defines liberals as “toe-tag” if they believe in government intrusion in our lives from birth until they put the tag on your toe in the morgue.) I will present a few facts to try to bring Janeane back into the real world. (more…)

Frank Rich is a Big Fat Liar, Part 2

by Larry O'Connor

Hollywood loves a sequel, and so does Big Hollywood.  My post about Frank Rich and his penchant for repeating left-wing urban legends as fact garnered many comments from both sides of the issue asking for the post to be longer or to add more examples.  I admit that calling Rich a “Big Fat Liar” with only one example may have been a bit thin.  So here is another quick example, and I’ll keep bringing them if Theatre-boy Frank keeps writing them.

Big Lie:  “Weimar-like rage at McCain-Palin rallies”

In his October 11th column, Theatre-boy Frank cites, “At McCain-Palin rallies, the raucous and insistent cries of “Treason!” and “Terrorist!” and “Kill him!” and “Off with his head!” as well as the uninhibited slinging of racial epithets…”.  I’ve included all of his links so you can hunt them down yourself.  I find it interesting that his three sources are Dana Milbank of the Washington Post, MSNBC and The Huffington Post.  What happened to the paper of record as a source for news?  Are you really citing another opinion columnist, a left-wing blog and MSNBC as your news sources? DVD Review: George Wallace

by John Nolte

Produced for television in 1997 and just released on DVD, director John Frankenheimer’s three-hour docudrama on the adult life of Alabama governor George Wallace (Gary Sinise),  plays like a quality theatrical film, and not just because of impressive production values. A winner of multiple awards, including 2 Golden Globes and 3 Emmys, “George Wallace” is a welcome throwback to the classic biopics of old.

Crafting a screenplay around the life of a historical figure is no easy task. Screen stories demand a three-act structure and reality isn’t always so convenient. For the last couple decades, screenwriters have too often leaned on a stormy marriage or substance abuse – or both – to solve this dilemma, but as last year’s spoof “Dewey Cox,” made clear, this framing device is long past cliché and needs to be retired.
