Out of Touch Again: How Hollywood Elites Did Their Part to See Prop 8 Overturned

by AWR Hawkins

On February 7th, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that the marriage protection amendment, commonly known as Prop 8, violates the U.S. Constitution. Although it passed with the support of 52% of California voters in 2008, the court said it “serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples.”

From where I sit, this ruling was a travesty, not only because it discarded the wishes of 7 million Californians who voted for it, but because much of the money to overturn it came from Hollywood elites who are completely out of touch with the heart and soul of America.

Honestly, watching the decision come down from the 9th Circuit was like watching Brad Pitt and Elton John stomp all ever everything that flyover country holds near and dear to its heart. I cite Pitt and John because Pitt gave at least $100,000 to “fight the proposition,” and in Jan. 2011, John played a benefit concert in Beverly Hills that raised $3,000,000 for the same cause.

Of course, these two were not alone. Steven Bing, long time Democrat Party donor and Hillary Clinton supporter, donated $500,000 to the cause, and according to Advocate magazine, Mary J. Blige and Melissa Etheridge were right there in the mix as well. Oh, and we can’t overlook old “Meathead,” Rob Reiner, who opposed Prop 8 when it was on the ballot in 2008 and who’s been “one of the biggest fundraisers behind the legal effort” to overturn it since. ‘Funny or Die’ Drops the Politics With Charlie Sheen Cooking Show and Achieves … Funny

Both ‘Funny or Die’ and Charlie Sheen should do more of this, especially FOD who always lay an egg when they try to tell us how to vote. But that’s because intellectual dishonesty isn’t funny.

Another Reason to Vote Republican: More Smug Celebs

by Hollywoodland

Warning: the sight of Chloe from “24″ and the hero from “Office Space” might kinda break your heart some…

—–

After watching this, the only message we walked away with was, “Gee, I wish someone would’ve spent more than ten minutes writing this thing.”

Actually, the problem with this Die isn’t really the writing, though it’s bad, the problem is that those performing it are pretty sure they’re adorable and nothing’s worse than someone in front of a camera who’s positive they’re cute. Cute is smug gone retard. Never a pretty sight.

Doug Powers sums the overall message up:

“Don’t just sit there, immigrants are about to be pulled from their cars, gays won’t be able to get married and nobody will have health care because stupid people are really motivated this year.”

‘Funny or Die’: Elite Hollywood Mocks Critics of Gays in Military

by John Nolte

Funny or Die.

In this particular “Die,” how many minds do you think these hipster Hollywood snobs think they’re going to change with such an insufferably smug approach? No one in this video is attempting to appeal to anyone’s better angels, all they’re doing is puffing themselves up as our moral superiors — showing off for those who already agree with them. This video is all about them:

—–

These celebs are not only preening themselves up above us all with that lazy and increasingly tired ironic smirk-approach, they’re also above sincerity, anything approaching honest patriotism, or reason. Just a hint of sincerity goes a long way, but for whatever reason sincerity is becoming more and more extinct among our Entertainment Ruling Class. And yet, the vibe being thrown out is still one of ”anyone who disagrees is an idiot.” You see, no one on the other side of this argument could possibly be anything other than a bigoted homophobe.

If I was gay and dying to serve my country in the military, these are not the people I’d want on my side. You want appealing individuals pleading your case, right?

The only moment in the cringe-worthy episode that makes you stop and think is the news about our need for more translators, which is the exact same point Andrew Breitbart made on the Bill Maher Show last week — after explaining to the audience that homophobia has nothing to do with this particular military policy. You see, you can change a lot more minds if you don’t deny the other side their humanity. But when you’re the ignorant bigot, you can’t see the other side’s humanity.

Watch below how Hollywood used to attempt social change. (more…)

What a terrific ad, both hilariously self-deprecating and effective at getting its message across. Much funnier than the overlong and painfully self-referential masturbatory movie star leftism we always see here.

Shouldn’t ‘Funny or Die’ Just Give It Up and Become ‘Liberal or Die?’

by John Nolte

None of these Funny or Die videos are funny. They’re on-the nose, heavy-handed, and at times so awkwardly unfunny that you kinda hafta supply your own rim-shot in order to gut your way through the worst of it. You can’t say the people behind the videos aren’t talented. They are. But this stuff is just lazy. Really, “Terminator” music over the closing PSA?

—–

But isn’t all celebrity masturbation lazy? No one’s trying to do anything more than feel good about themselves. So because that’s the real goal no serious thought goes into the sketch and of course no thought goes into the issue at hand.

Schools aren’t working? Throw money at them! Wow, I feel so much better about myself, so self-gratified, and look at how easy it was to show how much I care about kids. (more…)

ObamaCare: Non-Wealthy Actors Need to Vote Republican in 2010

by John Nolte

This, I think, very much sums the thinking behind all those wealthy Hollywoodists in favor of ObamaCare: [emphasis added]

Actor Sam Robards, the son of Lauren Bacall and the late Jason Robards, was visiting Washington last week with his children and Danish-born wife. Chatting in front of the White House gate, he said he tried to follow news coverage of the overhaul but conceded that “I’m not totally clear” on the details. He said he was glad that he got good coverage through the Screen Actors Guild so he didn’t have to worry about it.

The couple previously lived in Denmark, which has universal health coverage. They applauded the overhaul’s aim of extending coverage to nearly all Americans.

When you’ve Got Yours, there’s no real reason to spend a whole lot of time thinking through something. Considering his own resume and those of his parents, like a lot of  name actors, and unlike the rest of us, Sam Robards will probably never have to worry about the real-world effects of ObamaCare on his life or that of his family’s. This gives him the luxury of blindly backing his team (the Left) and using the talking points about “more coverage for all Americans” to feel nice and selfless about his admittedly ignorant self.

It’s both emotionally and intellectually easy to blindly back something when you need never fear it will harm you. No matter how bad things get as the federal government chokes the medical system with their bureaucracies and chases good healthcare professionals into other fields; as premium costs rise and all these new taxes cripple an already crippled economy — Sam Robards and his actor-y ilk will float blithely above it all comforted by their big fat pile of screw-you money. And should healthcare rationing become a reality, he’ll most certainly be in that top tier that keeps our wealthy European socialist friends out of those long lines. (more…)

‘Green Police’: Green Theft Comedy

by Tim Slagle

My favorite Super Bowl commercial had to be the “Green Police” ad. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy half naked women, anthropomorphic animals, and flatulence just as much as the next guy; but the “Green Police” ad struck me hard, right in the satire-bone.

It’s what us “deniers” have been warning about for at least twenty years: those who will sacrifice a little Liberty for a cleaner environment will eventually live in a dirty prison. It might defy Leftist logic, but private property is incompatible with environmental laws; Socialist Utopias aren’t known for their sparkling environmental records; and some of the filthiest places in America begin with the word, “public.”

So it is with great delight that I watched a German automaker, poke fun at the environmental fascism that America is embracing without trepidation.  I thought to myself that only German experience could write such an ad.

Unfortunately, my humor was tempered a little, because I could have sworn I had seen it all before. Sure enough, there was a short film, with a remarkably similar premise made by American filmmaker Adam McKay a few years back. Co-starrring in the piece was Will Ferell, in a clip so funny, that you could almost forget “Land of the Lost.” Rounding out the trio is “Stepbrother’s” and “Talladega Nights” co-star John C. Reilly. Why Does Will Ferrell Hoard His Money While Children Suffer?

by Michael Wilson

Will Ferrell and the fine folks over at “Funny or Die” are picking the low hanging fruit once again. This time they’re going after nameless, faceless “Insurance Executives” in a “satirical” PSA about government-run insurance. But the real comedy is watching a bunch of multimillionaires who do make-believe for a living opine about other people making too much money.

willferrell

I’m a big fan of comedy. I’m a stand-up junkie, growing up on late-night HBO comedy specials (I’d seen everything Carlin had done by age 11). I got into film making because Kevin Smith made it accessible through foul, filthy and hilarious dialogue that has always hit me where I live. And I don’t believe anything is off limits. It just strikes me as strange that people with extraordinary talent like Ferrell and company would be so off-the-mark with a piece that dives into the political world so deeply. (more…)
