Rockers Revolt Against GOP Types Playing Their Songs

by Hollywoodland

Kid Rock says he doesn’t mind if a politician on the left or the right wants to crank up his tunes on the campaign trail.

The shaggy crooner is the exception to the rule.

FoxNews.com reports that most singers balk when a Republican wants to co-op their songs for campaign events. Things are mighty different when it’s a Democratic politician singing a familiar song.

On the other hand, Bill Clinton used Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop” in his successful 1992 presidential bid, Democratic Sen. John F. Kerry played Springsteen’s “No Surrender” in his 2004 campaign, in 2008 Sen. Barack Obama revived Springsteen’s “The Rising,” and that same year fellow Democrat John Edwards used Mellancamp’s “Our Country.” All of these came and went without objection from the artists. In fact, except for 2008, when Barack Obama was sent a “cease and desist” letter from the legal team for Sam Moore (one half of the legendary duo Sam & Dave) over the unlicensed use of “Hold On, I’m Comin’” as background beat at his rallies, its hard to find examples of Democrats getting taken to task.

The unintentionally hilarious part of the story comes when the attorney giving the legal background on the use of music says there’s nothing to see here, ideologically speaking. Just move along.

Leftist’s Playlist: Let’s Play Those Lyin’ Songs

by Deanna Murray

You ever have those days where pretty much every single thing you hear coming out of someone’s mouth sounds like a lie?

Call ‘em cynical days – or days of heightened awareness, but I’m totally having one of those days. Or maybe it’s one of those weeks, months, years … because I feel like every single time President Obama opens his mouth, he oozes untruths (healthcare, no new taxes on employer benefits not to mention this fantastic website that has compilation of the top 50 lies Obama’s Told).

Not to mention the foul falsehoods and exaggerations blubbering from Harry Reid (still hung up on the slavery comments from awhile back) Nancy Pelosi  (too many lies to count but thanks for compiling them, Glenn Beck …) and a number of other notable Democrats (check out the Intellectual Conservative for a list of a few …). It just seems to never, ever end.

So in an attempt to unite liars everywhere and to have a little fun at their expense, it is my great pleasure to compile a playlist for those unable to tell the truth.

Because we all know you are, what you listen to …

Fleetwood Mac: A Huge Surprise

by John R. Kasich

My friends know that I get juiced up to see a really good concert. Last night in Columbus, however, I walked into Nationwide Arena for the Fleetwood Mac show not really sure if I wanted to be there. I went in with low expectations. I knew that Stevie Nicks is an icon and that Mick Fleetwood is a great drummer, but I still did not have high hopes going in. I’ve seen too many bands who are past their prime simply go through the motions, while charging big bucks just to get into the building.

All that I can say is that I was wrong. It was a humble performance — the band refused to rest on their laurels. They played with full emotion, letting it all out and the crowd responded accordingly. The band had three encores and I still wish they had come out just one more time. This wasn’t another nostalgic performance — it was a perfect rock show. (more…)
