It was so much fun watching the ACORN people try and spin their way out of oblivion for the last couple of weeks. After the first video was posted on Big Government.com they, of course, claimed it was an isolated incident and that the filmmakers were kicked out of numerous other ACORN offices. When that proved to be false, they tried in vain to claim that the videos were faked and that their employees were the victims of CGI or something and not of their own stupidity and corruption. When that didn’t work they claimed that the filmmakers, Andrew Breitbart and the entire Fox News network were racist. Yawn.

NEA’s Yosi Sergant

Monday, we have the NEA under the microscope. The Obama Administration was caught red-handed (is that “racist”?) funneling tax payer dollars into an official propaganda department. I can’t wait to see what the excuse will be this time.

These people have mastered the art of defending the indefensible.

Let’s set aside the stupidity of this move. Anyone familiar with the NEA knows that it pretty much exists to fund leftist propaganda disguised as art. Officially coordinating it is a bit redundant.

Let’s also set aside the brazen arrogance. Despite rejecting and dismissing charges that this administration is attempting to turn the United States into a South American Banana Republic, these folks keep doing things that make Hugo Chavez envious. State run propaganda through the NEA, silencing critics with the stigma of “racism,” setting up official channels to rat out your neighbors for “thought crimes” with flag@whitehouse.gov, and restructuring our economy with wealth redistribution schemes like socialized medicine and cap and trade are just a few of their moves right from the Trotsky play book. And they do it all with righteous indignation. They claim that we students of history are too ignorant, too blinded by our prejudices, to really see what’s going on.

No, let’s focus on the inevitable excuses that will flow from the mouths of the White House spin doctors and the true believers that make up the mainstream media. If I, from the outside, can predict their next moves, it’s pretty obvious that their excuses aren’t genuine.

They are just another act in this grand play of leftist tomfoolery.

Phase one will be complete silence. The story won’t be picked up by the state run media. Crickets. Crickets. After about a week of red faced Glenn Beck monologues, daily Rush Limbaugh pontifications (thanks, by the way, for the shout-out last week El Rushbo, the family was very impressed), Sarah Palin facebook posts, and Andrew Breitbart expertly rolling out more information, they will be forced to respond.

Phase two will be what I like to call “The Oz Effect.” Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. What’s the big deal, after all? The President, through the positively Grima Wormtongue-like Robert Gibbs, will “not really be aware of it.” There are bigger issues after all. Americans are concerned about the greedy insurance companies and the doctors trying to amputate their feet for some extra scratch, not about what happens at the NEA. David Shuster, the poor man’s Keith Olbermann, will point out that the people involved have already been reassigned. Isn’t this just another Republican shot in the dark? Don’t these people have any real ideas? Aren’t the conservatives in disarray? Who is their leader anyway?

Phase three will be the “offense-defense.” David Frum will talk about the risks that conservatives run by offending artists. Going after the NEA will just prove that we don’t like creative things. CNN will air segments featuring inner-city kids finger painting, explaining that the NEA’s $50 million cut of the stimulus money paid for those paints. You don’t want to take away finger paints. do you? Evil conservatives. The President will tout the importance of the arts in our community, the hope and joy it brings to so many. Sure, there were some bad apples, but they were just cowboys acting without official orders. We need the NEA. Just like we need ACORN, socialized medicine, and cap and trade.

Phase four will be justice. Riding high on the conservative smack down, bills will come forward in the House and Senate to freeze the NEA’s budget or defund it all together. A few lone whack jobs will vote against it, but it will pass with a fat majority.

Breitbart and company can claim another scalp. And to quote Aldo Raine, “I want my scalps!”

At no point will any member of the administration step forward and admit that it was wrong, un-American, or dangerous for democracy. The mainstream media will never pile onto the story and dig deeper.

These lame excuses and political posturings come with a high cost. Each time we do something like this, and they respond as outlined above, their credibility drops a few points. Every time this sort of thing happens, another person on the fence looks at the evidence and joins the right team.

There is a reason why conservative blogs are full of charts, facts, figures and quotes from history, while liberal blogs ramble on about conspiracies and charges of racism. There is a reason why conservatives use their understanding of economics to build companies and empires, while the left has to resort to trickery and emotional arguments to fund their pointless projects.

It’s because we “get it.” They don’t. Their edge has always been their stranglehold on the media; but that is slipping away like star systems through Grand Moff Tarkin’s fingers. Conservatives, being the smart entrepreneurs that we are, created our own parallel media. We have filled this new media with facts, intelligence and passion. The response from the opposition has been demagoguery, excuses, and misdirection. Bad form. Bad form indeed.

So good luck digging your way out of this one, hippies. 2010 and 2012 can’t come soon enough. Leftists, you are on notice. Your orgy of power and stupidity will be brief and soon you will be gone.

Oh, and on your way out, take the mainstream media with you. You are both useless.

Yes, you’ve read correctly. Come this Thursday I will officially be putting a campaign underway for those opposed to nationalized healthcare. You need to flag yourselves to the Federal government. Make no mistake about it, there’s an information war going on out there and the good old Chicago politicians are trying to shut you down. Have you got the cojones to make YOUR voice heard?

Remember how upset Liberals (and even some Conservatives) were at “The Patriot Act?” It was an “invasion of our privacy and personal freedoms,” they’d say. Despite the fact that the bill was designed to gather information on terrorists and protect the American people (not harm them), I always understood the apprehension it caused people. It’s a slippery slope, and I get that.

On the flip side, however, we’ve got an administration that is NOT seeking out dangerous people with violent records, but proactively targeting American citizens in an attempt to intimidate voices of dissent.

Make no mistake about what’s going on here. This administration couldn’t care less about “fishy material” being circulated but by using such a term, they are deliberately attempting to marginalize any opposition to a government-healthcare takeover. By describing emails and blogs as “misinformation” they try and paint any opposition with the “crazy-right wing propagandist” brush, when the fact is that the majority of the American populace oppose the current bill. Just how many, you ask?

…Well, more people than ever voted for Barack Hussein Obama, that’s for sure.

This administration is trying to target the center-right American people in order to make us feel secluded. Once they make us feel as though we’re all alone, they can start sniping people off, one by one.

If this healthcare bill gets snuffed (as it most likely will), you can expect “The Fairness Doctrine” to rear it’s ugly little head again. This administration is covering their bases so that they have some “villains” to point to. Obama will try to go “Mel Gibson in “The Patriot”” on us and pick off the commanding officers first, in hopes that the rest of us will be easy-pickings afterward.

The grass-roots movement is working, and liberals hate that!

In order to show them just how effective it has been, I will be taking submissions for a “Flag Yourself Campaign” video that will be released on Thursday. If you have a camcorder or webcam and a penchant for truth, it’s time for you to join up. I will be sending my own letter of discontent to flag@whitehouse.gov and suggest that you do the same.

If you would like to take part in the video, send an @ reply to twitter.com/scrowder

It’s time to step up to the plate and win one for the gipper.

…Or at least just stick it to Sean Penn.

I’m doing standup in Denver. Shelley is driving me from radio to radio to TV as I do the monkey dance at each station promoting the show, selling tickets. I don’t like this part of the job. I must answer the same 10 questions about Saturday Night Live and try to explain where I’ve been for the last fifteen years. All the DJ’s want are some juicy stories about celebrities. I don’t really have that many. I’m booked at two political talk stations, a rock station, a country station, and two local TV shows. I guess that’s my demographic! Everyone! I ask Shelley why I’m booked on the political stations. She shrugs, “Well, we didn’t really know…isn’t that what you are doing now?” The first stop I’m told is a “just right of center” show, so I feel free to share my newest shocking information that the White House is asking us to “snitch’” on our friends and family. To report anything “fishy.” This news is so abhorrent to me that I could barely sleep the night before. I immediately emailed Andrew Breitbart to see if it was true. He said yes. I searched the hotel computer web to see if the big shots, the smart people have gotten on this. They were just starting to fight back. The news was so new. Well, at least this administration is entertaining…in a bad way. I’m watching a horror movie every day.

As I share the shocking information that our Freedom of Speech is being attacked, the radio host across from me, his face, it looks like he just ate a lemon. It’s all scrunched up like…he hates me. He abruptly cuts me off and ends my interview. I’m stupefied at the reaction of people who “just can’t handle the truth.” My driver Shelley is a liberal. She doesn’t say anything. As we get in the car I try to apologize, “Well, he asked me why I was a new political activist. I guess I should just tell jokes.” I mean I have been hired basically to sell tickets to a bar where people will spend lots of money on alcohol. And, I do need to make some money. My husband is a cop.

And don’t get me started on the Obama Gates Crowley Beer Summit. I wrote 15 articles about racism and tore them up. My husband kept chiding me, “White people can’t discuss race.”

But, I must say. Sgt. Crowley is a first class act. A shout out to you, Sgt. I love cops, as you can see by the above photo.

Anyway, my next stop is the rock station. It’s ironic for me to be there since I have never owned a stereo or a rock n’ roll record and went to a Baptist high school where in the late 70’s we were actually told to burn/break our rock records–I didn’t have any to burn/break. I am telling my Kurt Cobain story about how I hooked up Weird Al with Kurt so he could get permission to write the parody “Smells Like Teen Sweat,” when I am pleasantly surprised by a cell phone call from Jessica Hahn. Yes, the Jessica Hahn. What great radio, right? I ask her if she’ll be in my “on-air” interview and she agrees. She understands “the business.” Jessica and I have recently struck up a friendship finding we live in the same LA area. I had met her briefly fifteen years ago on the set of “Unhappily Ever After.” I had apologized for parody-ing her with my “I Am Not a Bimbo” song on SNL. She was gracious and sweet. We share a background in the church and we both still study the Bible! Anyway, I knock out the rock station interview thanks to Jessica Hahn and go back to my hotel.

I scour the internet and find that the conservative big shots are now fully engaged in this battle against our government. I send in two emails to flag@whitehouse.gov. I figure I’m already on their “list.” One of my emails says, “Is this a joke?” One says, “How dare you attack our Freedom of Speech! Stop the Snitch Program! It’s illegal!” So, you see, I’m really, really on their “list.” I’m wondering what will happen to the people on “the list.” Audit? Jail? Death? I’m starting to feel exactly the same as the Soviets and the Cubans. I now understand perfectly why they risked their lives heading to Miami on rafts. The fear is palpable. The invisible oppression of being watched. The White House is trying to intimidate my fellow Americans from speaking out, from asking questions about this Socialized Medicine. Nancy Pelosi is on TV saying we wear swastikas! What planet is she from? It’s all a jumble of anger and fear and lies. My country.

My hope rises as I read Cornyn and Sekulow’s letters to the President. They know the legal lingo. They are representing me. Whew. And of course, there is God. And, I pray.

My next radio interview is a “phoner.” I gaze out the window at the beautiful Denver mountains as I sink luxuriously into this interview with a fellow conservative. He gets it. He is surprised that I am in the fight along with him, to save our country. My next few interviews are frivolous. I try to accentuate the ditz in me, to sell tickets, to make Wende, the club owner like me and have me back.

Onstage, I try out a new song, “White Men,” dedicated to Sonja Sotomayer. One audience loves it. One is completely silent. I decide to skip the song for the rest of the shows. After the show, one lady comes up to me and grasps my hand in both of hers. She whispers, “Thank you so much for speaking up, about our country.” Her eyes look deep into mine. I feel like we have both scratched the fish symbol into the sand, during the Roman Empire times. The fall of the Roman Empire.

The White House Blog on Tuesday, August 4th titles an entry “Facts Are Stubborn Things.” In it is posted a video of Linda Douglass, the Communications Director for the White House’s Health Reform Office, trying to diffuse criticism of the Obama Health Care takeover by showing two clips of President Obama re-stating his oft-heard yet irrelevant contention that the new Health Care “Reform” bill will not take away the health care options of anyone who likes his or her current provider. Of course, facts are stubborn things, and the facts (read: common sense) stubbornly refuse to support Obama’s talking point.

Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of economics knows that what he is saying is patently false. The moment the government nationalizes medical insurance, it will undercut all other insurers since the Government doesn’t need to make a profit, whereas insurers do. Employers, always mindful of their bottom line, will immediately transfer over to the Government plan and all ability of the insured to choose their provider will be lost. The resultant overload of the government system will force the rationing of health care services. Soon, the other insurers will be forced out of business and Voilà!, we will have arrived at the goal, previously stated by the President and others like Barney Frank, of a single-payer, Government-run system–just like the failing, overburdened socialized medicine systems of Canada and England.

Now, since facts are stubborn things, the only way the Obama Administration and Congressional Democrats can contend with facts that contradict their unfounded assertions is to demonize their opponents. Nancy Pelosi makes bizarre and fantastic claims that opponents of the Health Care Industry takeover arrive at Town hall meetings displaying Swastikas! Barbara Boxer makes up wondrous tales of “well-dressed” yet angry “mobs” who must (obviously) be paid by nefarious rabble-rousers to undermine the saintly agenda of the President. Instead of their concerns being addressed, these eloquent common folk, fired by the passion of their convictions and legitimately dismayed by the direction our country is going in, are dismissed across the board by Democrat legislators as mere rabble. Is this what our Founders envisioned as a representative form of government?

Still, one can easily write off the flailing response of legislators who see their unbridled quest for power being undermined by a populace informed of the stubborn facts. Much more frightening, is what is written next on that White House blog:

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

So, let me get this straight: the same people who went ballistic over a supposed “invasion of privacy” because the Bush Administration dared to use computerized (read, mechanical) monitoring of phone lines to ferret out domestic terrorists, are now asking that personal e-mails and “casual conversation(s)” that disagree with the Party Line be reported to the Feds? If I dare to send my friends an e-mail that contains some stubborn facts – leave aside this highly public article – will I be visited by the “men in black”? Maybe I should get my tax records in order for the coming IRS audit.

Anyone who has read Jonah Goldberg’s seminal history book Liberal Fascism will immediately recognize what is going on here. Leftist ideology, to the large extent that it is indistinguishable today from Fascist ideals, depends largely upon shutting down the free flow of information. Furthermore, as the supposed “Health Care Crisis” and the “Climate Change Crisis” so aptly illustrate, the modern Left (a far cry from classic Liberalism) needs to manufacture crises to get it’s agenda passed before anyone can understand or object. After all, it’s all those stubborn facts that keep getting in the way of “transformation,” and one way to insure that a crisis remains a crisis is to limit public access to those doggone stubborn facts.

There was a huge “crisis” that needed Congress to immediately pass the “Stimulus” bill. Over a thousand pages long, it couldn’t wait long enough for the members of Congress to read it. Forget the Obama campaign promise to have a five-day period for public comment before any bill is passed. No, the “crisis” was too great to spare even a moment’s delay. Of course, once it was passed, the Obama Administration took several days to arrange a wastefully expensive photo-op bill-signing in Denver. So much for urgency.

As it is, we as a people, are already deep into uncharted territory when it comes to the effects of an unprecedented expansion of Government spending and control of our personal lives. Everyone–Left, Right, or Center–should be very alarmed by the kind of rhetoric coming from the White House that I quoted above. The White House is now explicitly asking us to snitch on our neighbors. In this great country, the foundation of our freedom depends upon our ability to know and disseminate the stubborn facts and then debate their consequences. Let’s all make sure that those pesky, stubborn facts can continue to be freely spoken.
