This isn’t true for all of them. Ed Begley Jr. walks the walk, and there are everyday tree-huggers scattered throughout America quietly attempting to make work a sustainable lifestyle. You can smell them from here. But most environmentalists are lying liars who know they’re lying. Because if you honestly believe man is destroying the planet, that the apocalypse is nigh, you prepare for it. Most coastal elites are Global Warming believers and yet Global Warming, we’re told, will make the oceans rise to the point that will someday put much of the coast, especially Manhattan underwater. So why aren’t coastal elites moving inland? Why aren’t they pulling a Lex Luthor and buying up all that cheap property that will someday be the new coast? And why do they continue to burn fossil fuels, enjoy air conditioning, and otherwise consume? Because deep down inside they know what we know: it’s all bull shit Socialism disguised as nonsense.

People who believe, truly believe that an environmental apocalypse – be it through increased temperatures, a rise in sea levels, or super-hurricanes — is imminent, act as though it’s imminent. They don’t live in big, fancy, air-conditioned homes propped precariously on the side of the Hollywood Hills and purchased through the dividends of an unnecessary energy-burning, landfill-filling industry. They don’t run up incredible electric bills. They don’t purchase second homes large enough to house Michelle Obama’s entourage.

However, after an “awakening,” courtesy of former Vice President Al Gore’s wildly inaccurate propaganda-horror film, “An Inconvenient Truth,” James J. Lee believed.

Let’s keep in mind that “An Inconvenient Truth” is not a work of fiction. Well, at least it’s not presented as such. Al Gore’s Academy Award-winning documentary is not  “The Day After Tomorrow.” Hollywoodists, using the mighty propaganda power found in the sound and fury of the modern day motion picture, brought a Vice President of the United States before the world to inform us that man was killing the planet.

And yesterday, someone who took that film at its word, who took Al Gore at his word, acted on it.

James J. Lee might have been crazy as Ed Schultz at a Glenn Beck rally … but he believed. And if you believe, truly believe in Al Gore’s doomsday scenario, it’s not hard to convince yourself that going Jack Bauer — employing extra-legal and violent methods — for the greater good of Gaia is a moral and even a heroic choice. A better example might be John Brown, the fanatical abolitionist who committed horrible crimes in the noble cause of freeing the slaves. But at the time, slavery was a very real evil. Al Gore’s doomsday scenario is not.

Not for a second do I believe that Al Gore or anyone involved in the creation of “An Inconvenient Truth” wanted or even imagined that someday someone would strap on explosives, walk into a building with a daycare center, and take hostages in the hopes of terrorizing a cable outlet into creating more programming similar to “An Inconvenient Truth.” Nor do I believe that they — or anyone — is responsible for lunatics who take political messaging to a violent extreme.

But Gore and Co. are consciously and purposefully using the most powerful propaganda device ever created to spread self-serving lies in the hopes of scaring us into voting for the kind of government that will give the elite more control over our lives. And so there’s simply no getting around the fact that had these people (and their media minions) inspired with the truth instead of a lie, yesterday’s tragedy might not have happened.

How much carbon did the Malibu Mansion-dwelling director emit to create and promote ”Avatar?”

If Cameron and all the other elitists who so casually spew this socialism-disguised-as-nonsense enviro stuff really believed Global Warming was a dire threat, they would behave accordingly with respect to their own  jet-set lifestyles and carbon-spewing professions.

I don’t believe in Global Warming because — well, because I have a brain — but mainly because the James Camerons and the Al Gores of the world don’t believe in it, either. They get rich off of it. They puff their insecure selves up with it. They feel a sense of superiority over it…

But they don’t believe in it.

Look how the “experts” live.

Or they really do believe Global Warming is as dire a threat as WWII, which means their lifestyle is a weapon of genocide.

What other conclusion is there?

And so I close this post with a nod of respect for Ed Begley Jr.

Yikes. Someone got the talking points. Can you say, “Peer reviewed studies?” Methinks those leaked emails that pretty much show Global Warming is … what’s the best way to put it?… the big fat freakin’ lie we all knew it was, has stirred our friend Ed up some.

You know what he sounds like? Someone who believes the Earth is 6,000 years old trying to explain away a dinosaur fossil.

Oh, that old time religion…

With “Whatever Works,” a deeply unpleasant, unfunny “comedy” starring Larry David, Allen takes a disturbing stride towards condoning this form of nihilism. We’re far beyond “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” the memorable theme explored so tenderly in Allen’s 1986 masterpiece “Hannah and Her Sisters.” In that film there were at least very real and human consequences to infidelity and other selfish, romantic pursuits. No more. “Whatever Works” might as well be titled “Whatever Works Works.”

David plays Boris Yellnikoof, a misanthrope’s misanthrope and relentless Leftist elitist incapable of humanity or kindness. In a series of unfunny monologues, Boris breaks the third fourth wall, acknowledges those of us in the audience and spews the same philosophy on the worthlessness of life that recently drove him out a window in a failed suicide attempt. To anyone within earshot, he’s an insistent ranter sure he’s the only one who’s figured it out because the rest of us worthless insects are embalmed with pop culture and religion.

The former academic who was once “almost nominated for the Nobel Prize” lives in a decrepit walk up and teaches chess to kids (actually he hurls insults at them) in order to meet the monthly nut. One night, on his way home, he finds a teenage waif at the bottom of his stairs, Melodie St. Ann Celestine (Evan Rachel Wood), a runaway from Mississippi. Before you can say “Why Does Woody Always Bore Us With This Troubling Obsession of His,” the sixty-year old Boris marries teen-aged Melodie.

But “Whatever Works” is only getting started. Melodie’s estranged mother and father — uptight, God-fearing Redstaters played by Ed Begley Jr. and Patricia Clarkson – are the next to arrive and fall under the spell of a Bohemian Manhattan. Before long, Allen’s ham-handed stereotypes give up the Jesus talk and silly country values for the promise of happiness found in divorce, ménage a trios and the long-repressed, inner homosexual.

Allen’s writing is shockingly lazy. The dialogue plays like something from a high school play with every on-the-nose scene stiffly performed as if over-rehearsed. The characters are worse; paper thin. Other than Rachel Wood, who summons more depth than the script deserves, the usually terrific Clarkson and Begley Jr. seem satisfied playing caricatures, which should come as no surprise. Hollywood bigots, never shy about granting terrorists, Nazis, rapists and child molesters some level of depth and dimension, refuse anything of the kind for us Wal-Mart shopping, Jesus-lovers.

With mixed results, the 74-year old Allen has used stand-ins before but David’s the worst — yes even worse than Kenneth Branagh. At least Branagh’s a talented film actor who brings something to the table above the script. Allen himself brings an unspoken pathos to these characters, even the narcissist in “Stardust Memories” and rank bastard in “Deconstructing Harry.” David only proves he’s a television actor, a sitcom guy, whose sitcom schtick never parts its own waters long enough to allow us a glimpse of the human being beneath Boris’s bile.

Not only is “Whatever Works” Allen’s worst film by a long shot, it’s an unrelentingly ugly thing that allows for a horrible, cruel and selfish man’s philosophy to win the day. In the past, even in Allen’s godless world, a consequence of some kind was meted out to these types, or at least a rotting of the soul was implied. But the man who did more than anyone to lampoon his own kind, those he famously described as the “New York, Jewish, Left-Wing, Liberal, Intellectual, Central Park West, Brandeis University, Socialist summer camps, and the father with the Ben Shahn drawings” crowd, appears to be devolving into something that lacks the self-awareness that once made him so unique.
