Of Japan and Libya

by Greg Gutfeld

First there was an earthquake, then a tsunami, then a meltdown, and now, possibly a volcano.

At this point, a Mothra joke seems inevitable – but also lame. Frankly, I’m not sure there’s anything I can say that adds incite or comfort to anyone after such a horrendous event.

Living in Manhattan, I’m always reminded of man’s ugliness. But I’ve forgotten about the arbitrary viciousness of Mother Nature. Looking at the devastation, from my cozy apartment, I can only think that there was someone in Japan doing that exact same thing when the quake hit. Sitting at home, drinking tea, in boxers.

Then it’s over.

Disaster rarely calls ahead.

We are all vulnerable to the whims of catastrophe, and as far as I can tell, there’s little wisdom to be gained from it.

Well, other than info for future planning.

Yep – we all know life is precious. But it’s also a sentence featuring ever-more-brutal methods of mayhem, and the hell in Japan just added another exclamation point.

Anyway, you’d think there are no winners in this tragedy, but you’re wrong.

Daily Gut: Deepak’s Deep Tweets

by Greg Gutfeld

So Deepak Chopra, otherwise known as “the dude full of poop,” has finally taken responsibility for something awful that isn’t one of his books. I am referring to Sunday’s 7.2 earthquake along the border of Mexican and the United States.

deepak_chopra

He wrote to his Twitter followers (who I like to call Twits, because anyone following Deepak, has to be one):

“Had a powerful meditation just now — caused an earthquake in Southern California.”

Later, he added:

“Was meditating on Shiva mantra & earth began to shake.” “Sorry about that.”

I suppose this passes for humor in the Chopra household, or he might have been serious. Either way, it’s kinda odd. If he’s kidding, then it’s always nice to see a practitioner of peace joking about an event that kills a few people. (more…)

Airlift Haiti Update — 2/4/2010

by Eric Haymes

We also need a few volunteers, mainly stateside including a web developer, documentary film maker and publicist and someone to set up a Airlift Haiti Facebook page. We are eager to tell our story.

The one common denominator amongst every single doctor, nurse, soldier, builder, missionary or volunteer working to save lives in  Haiti is this. They each arrived on an airplane.

This is why Airlift Haiti exists. To provide this one critical link in the gap between willing volunteers, supplies and those in need in and around Port-Au-Prince. We provide air transportation of much needed relief supplies and medical teams to Haiti aboard our Boeing aircraft.

What I didn’t expect when asked for Andrew Breitbart’s help and shortly thereafter commenced our effort to help with Haiti relief was that  it would come to occupy my every waking hour. That was several weeks ago and many lost nights of sleep.

Since that time Airlift Haiti has commenced fulfilling our mission of flying relief workers and supplies to Haiti with our inaugural flight occurring Monday January 23.  (more…)

Letters From Haiti: When Mountains Moved

by Gary Graham

The piercing roar of the C-17 jet engines rattled my skull as it went to full throttle and lifted off into the amber sky back towards Miami.   The awesome machine had just delivered its precious payload of relief supplies to the earthquake-ravaged people of Haiti.

On the tarmac of the Port-au-Prince airport I stood beside the 737 jet that Eric Haymes had donated for the relief effort through his Air Lift Haiti organization.  He’d just delivered a bunch of medical professionals who were there to relieve another bunch of medical workers, some of whom had been there for weeks.

The sight at the airport was not to be believed.  The activity…the sense of urgency…the cooperation — amazing.  It was organization without organization.  Someone would yell “Hey over here — unload!”   And a hundred people would move en masse forming an impromptu ‘bucket brigade’ line — and within a half-hour tons of desperately needed supplies were off-loaded from a jet’s underside.  With little spoken except for whoops of exhilaration.   The mood on the tarmac…a mixture of selfless abandon, determined purpose…and yes, love.  For a longtime skeptic of basic human nature…it was cathartic…and beautiful.  (more…)

Daily Gut: Danny Glover Is a Tool

by Greg Gutfeld

The fact that Danny Glover is a monumental chucklehead should surprise no one. He’s been spouting batpoop crazy nonsense for years. But now, he’s even topped himself, as the washed-up actor blames the Haiti earthquake on the response to the climate change conference. Check it out, check it outers.

What a tool. Now this guy is supposed to be an expert or something- but instead of identifying the obvious – that areas rife with political corruption and its resulting poverty often experience more devastation after a natural disaster – he blames it all on our justifiably cynical response to Copenhagen. Clearly, global warming has infected his brain so severely, that he cannot think straight. This could also explain why he did Saw V.

But Glover pales in comparison to Media Matters. While people struggle to come to terms with horrifying human suffering, what does this pathetic “media watchdog group” do? They release a “study” focusing on the amount of coverage Fox News devoted to the quake. Which, again, shows what happens when ideology pickles your brain. Rather than come to terms with real suffering – all they see is…. Fox News. And all they want to see, is Fox News.

Let me quote Eric Burns, Captain of Twerps R Us. (more…)

Earthquake Relief: ‘Hollywood Unites For Haiti’

by John Nolte

This is a non-profit group run by Jimmy Jean-Louis. Most of you will recognize him from his role on the television show “Heroes.” He’s also been on Fox News today with Shep.

Outside of my political life, I do still have some friends in show-biz; good people, people whose opinions are rock solid, and when they tell me Jimmy’s a stand up guy doing the right thing for the right reasons… Well, that’s good enough for me … and I’ve already put my money where my mouth is.
