From The Front Lines

4:30 p.m.  Alhambra Town Hall Health Care Meeting with Congressman Shiff:  August 12, 2009

I’m sitting in the parking lot, a poster board and black Sharpie in hand, the radio on Frank Pastori,  99.5 FM.  He’s passionately discussing the very current, very urgent Obamacare catastrophe with callers.  I am creating my protest poster, trying to zero in on the exact name of this, his latest attempt at World Domination…Nationalized-Universal-Single-Payer-Socialized-Government-Controlled-Health-Care-Insurance-Reform-Thing.  I settle on “Obamacare.”  I call in to the radio show.  My voice is higher than usual and a bit shaky.  It takes a lot of energy to protest.  All my endorphins are zinging.  “Hi Frank…I’m here at the…”

I have a flashback to SNL…adrenaline rushing through my veins, and Steven Tyler just down the hall.  My Madonna poster on the wall…I looked at her attitude for inspiration. I told her that once and she said, “…Really?”   On a scale of 1 to 10, her exhibitionism is a 150 and mine is a 5. I would have never predicted that in 17 years, I would be sitting in a Honda Civic, head full of super-boring health care facts, watching old people walk by, while squeaking this out on a poster,

“What’s the Rush?” (afraid we’ll read the bill?).

Empty Suit, California Style

by Riley Hunter

To the delight of California’s illegal aliens, socialists, unqualified minority job-seekers and militant bicyclers who blow up Hummer dealerships in the name of suffering polar bears, smarmy San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom announced on Tuesday he is running for governor in 2010.  Newsom chose San Francisco-based Twitter─the de facto, mandatory communication tool for hip celebs and gossipy high school girls─to officially reveal his plans.  Indeed, inexperienced, over-packaged, provincial narcissists with radical agendas, cocaine issues, elitism fetishes, an undeserved sense of entitlement and contempt for the American way of life aren’t just for the White House anymore.  California has found change it can believe in.

At a time when reckless, lightweight, non-achieving ideologues are all the rage in American politics; when nary a meaningful accomplishment is needed to move up the political ladder; when substance takes a backseat to teleprompters and pedestrian, car salesman charms; Newsom is trying to parlay his overly-bleached smile, expensive suits and camera-ready prop wife (not pictured below) into the most visible governorship in the United States.   (more…)

Letter to Congress Regarding the Latest Obama Outrage Against Veterans

by Ned Rice

Dear Senator Feinstein/Senator Boxer/Rep. Jane Harmon,

I am writing you today regarding President Obama’s recent proposal to charge U.S. combat veterans (through their insurance carriers) for treatment received as a result of injuries suffered on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan.

I have been a close observer of the political scene for some years now and I have never heard a more outrageous, indefensible and utterly un-American idea as this one– and I’m not even a veteran.  The fact that President Obama would seriously consider such a notion speaks volumes about his stunning lack of understanding of, and respect for, America’s deepest-held military traditions.  The fact that such a heinous proposal would even see the light of day is a chilling indictment of the entire Obama administration and its agenda for this nation.   (more…)
