Anyone heard from GLAAD?

A few days ago I wrote about leftist Hollywood’s fascist attack on Brett Ratner and mentioned that we shouldn’t declare any of this a “gay campaign.” The story below is a perfect example of what I meant. People like Taylor Garrett and Chris Barron are two of many gays and lesbians out there who are not afraid to think for themselves and who want no part of GLAAD’s ongoing bullying campaign to chill free speech.

“The gays” aren’t the bad guys; the left is.

Immediately the left questioned the reality star’s claims. Copies of the police report can be found at the Huffington Post. See photo below of the rock Garrett says was thrown through his window.

A cast member of the gay reality TV show “A-List Dallas” tells The Daily Caller that he was punched to the ground and bloodied Friday night by someone vandalizing his car because he’s a gay conservative associated with commentator Ann Coulter.

Taylor Garrett, a Republican consultant in Texas who stars in the reality series on the channel LOGO TV, said in an interview that he was attacked outside a birthday party in Dallas after finding a vandal scratching “F–k Coulter” on the side of his car.

Garrett said the incident reflects a troubling mindset.

“The Democrats want me to live on their plantation as their slave, because I’m a gay person,” he said. “And I refuse to do that.”

Photos provided by Garrett to TheDC show the phrase about Coulter keyed in large letters across his car. Other photos show Garrett with a bloody ear and blood covering his white shirt.

“I was at a party and one of my friends arrived and I had a present for him, so I went back to my car to get the present,” he recalled. “When I walked out to my car, I saw someone squatting next to my car.”

After asking the vandal what he was doing, Garrett said the large man stood up and decked him in his left eye. Garrett fell to the ground. He also scraped up his body by falling into some glass that was next to his car, Garrett said. The attacker got away.

Anyone who caught “Real Time” this past weekend got to enjoy some great television. Much like the boss (and much unlike your average buttoned-up conservative), Ann Coulter thrives in a political environment where there’s an emphasis on entertainment, humor, and thinking on your feet. If you’ve read her books or seen enough of her speeches and media appearances, you know she’s easily funnier than you average Hollywood or New York “comedian.”

Credit where it’s due, as usual, to Maher and co. for having her on. “Real Time” continues to be the only liberal-leaning late-night current events/comedy show eager to engage articulate conservative commentators.

Here are some highlights, starting with Coulter telling MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that his mother, who has a government job, “is a drain on society”:

Next is a long chunk of the round-table discussion where Maher and Coulter’s sardonic repartee takes center-stage. This is an act they could take on the road (UPDATE: Apparently they have):

And finally, Coulter smacks down Maher saying she only talks to rubes when she’s on his show:

Very witty, as usual.

According to Wikipedia, Jon Stewart currently has about 15 writers working for him to produce the 22-minute “Daily Show” four nights per week. Watching these clips makes you wonder what Ann Coulter could do with her own show and a team of conservative comedy writers.

She’s written eight(!!!) best-sellers; there is an audience already built in. And if you think Coulter is too controversial or too much of a rabble-rouser to carry her own show, Bill Maher himself likened GOP thinking to the Casey Anthony jury that very show. How’s that for rabble-rousing?

The fact that an Ann Coulter show has never been tried is all you need to know about liberal-bias in Hollywood.

Politico:

It’s not the Star Wars trilogy, but writer and director Stephen Bannon’s trying for something epic: his latest film, “Battle for America,” which chronicles the tea party movement, is the third in a trilogy that Bannon believes weaves a narrative about a burgeoning conservative movement. Bannon’s hoping that by paying attention to detail and aiming high, conservative documentaries might finally compete with more successful films on the liberal side of the spectrum.

“You’ve always seen mass movements on the left,” Bannon told POLITICO. “What intrigued me was what caused this mass movement on the right.” Bannon admits that “Battle” is “a very partisan film,” but says that “it’s aimed at independents and Reagan Democrats who can actually step back and think about what the stakes are.” (The other two films in the trilogy are “Generation Zero,” which focuses on the financial crisis, and “Fire from the Heartland,” which looks at leading conservative women).

Such conservative notables as Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich, Lou Dobbs, Fred Barnes, Sen. Kit Bond, Sen. Tom Coburn and Rep. Thaddeus McCotter make cameos in “Battle.” But Dick Morris, current Republican campaign surrogate, is the default star of the film.

Morris told POLITICO that “Battle” is “really a closing argument to the 2010 election. It is the case for change, the case for getting rid of the Democratic Congress and a manual about how to go about doing it.”

This week, Citizens United’s Dave Bossie and Steve Bannon debuted their new documentary, Fire from the Heartland: The Awakening of the Conservative Woman.

The film chronicles conservative women who have sparked the popular call for common sense governance and captured the public’s imagination. It is a required viewing for anyone honestly interested in the roots of the Tea Party phenomenon and the future of American conservatism.

In the 20th Century, the fonts of confusion and uncertainty that breed discontent among a people were identified by the conservative philosopher Russell Kirk:

(Discontent occurs) not necessarily when they are poor, but when they are emotionally and intellectually distraught…when even the family seems imperiled; when people can no longer live as their ancestors lived before them….

Against the chaos of our age, conservative women have rightly raised their voices to say “Stop!”

Their intellectual and visceral understanding of the transformational changes racking America – and what is at stake – is why conservative women are leading the movement in their respective fields: the pioneers, Clare Booth Luce and the indomitable Phyllis Schlafly; in politics, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, U.S. Representatives Michele Bachmann, Cynthia Lummis and Jean Schmidt; in the media, Ann Coulter, S.E. Cupp, Dana Loesch, Michelle Malkin, Kathleen McKinley, and Michelle Moore; and in activism, Deneen Borelli, Michelle Easton, Tabitha Hale, Sonnie Johnson, Amy Kremer, Jenny Beth Martin, and Jamie Radtke.

These and millions of other Conservative women know the Obama administration and its Democrat Congress’ radical agenda imperils not only American prosperity but American Exceptionalism itself – the inherited liberty, virtues and traditional culture we have inherited from our prior generations and must bequeath to our children.

In short, these self-described “Mama Grizzlies” recognize the pending election is not just about the spending of our nation. It is about the soul of our nation.

As revealed in the documentary, these conservative women’s wisdom was not imparted to them in a classroom by Left-wing college professors’ spewing radical doctrines. As conservatism in its purest sense is always acquired, it was imparted to them around the hearth of home by their families and personal experiences. Thus, the impact of the film is not diminished by an attempt to narrate second hand these conservative women’s vitality and indispensability to the movement and America’s future.

Shining through in their own words, these conservative women illume their humble roots, honest beliefs and outright defiance of those who would destroy everything they know and cherish about their families and fellow Americans.

Yes, conservatives will welcome this movie; however, it would be wise for misogynistic Leftists to view it, because it might dampen their desire to revile these Mama Grizzlies. Of course, if the Left was wise, it never would have tried foisting its radicalism upon these Mama Grizzlies.

Today, these conservative women fight for the hearth of home. They are principled, perseverant, and defiant; and, when these Mama Grizzlies and America ultimately win, the Left will just have to grin and bear it.

Not only did Citizen’s United’s new film “Fire from the Heartland” teach me quite a few things I didn’t know about some of my favorite women in the conservative movement, but at times it moved me to tears. What was most fascinating though, was viewing today’s tea party movement leaders in the context of history.

“Fire from the Heartland” follows the progression of the conservative movement and the role women have played in it and helps the viewer understand why so many women are at the forefront of today’s tea party movement.

—–

I was fortunate enough to be one of five conservative women to be invited to a private sneak peek of the film with director, Steve Bannon, a week ago in DC and the reaction among all of us was equally strong and positive.

The story is told in a very personal way through the eyes (and words) of 15 of the leading women in the conservative movement, but also by looking at it “from the outside in” through video and still shots. Through the lens of history, we get an interesting overview. From women during the frontier pioneer days to individuals like Clare Boothe Luce, Phylis Schlafly (whose interview is featured) and Margaret Thatcher to women who have only in the past couple of years become political leaders, we see how women came to be such a driving force in the conservative movement.

The interview segments in the film are particularly powerful. They are beautifully shot with the women presented in front of a black background, wearing white blouses and black skirts or slacks. That styling really brings the personality of each woman forward and focuses all attention on what they are saying. It is interesting though, that even though they are all dressed in the same colors, their personalities are still expressed through their wardrobe – Michelle Bachmann wears a beautifully tailored crisp white button front shirt, while Ann Coulter wears a white knit tank top and short black skirt.

After seeing the movie, the thing that most amazed me was the way the interviews were so seamlessly pieced together in such a way that they flowed effortlessly. Although the physical voices of the women are different – from different generations, different races, different parts of the country, and different professions – they are as one because they speak with a common message.

Bannon said they did approximately 40 hours of interviews for the entire 15 person cast, then cut that down to the 80 minute film. The resulting dynamic is one of an unbroken conversation, where one woman can finish another woman’s sentence without any inconsistency or interruption of flow. Bannon said the editor, Matthew Taylor, cut the film very tightly so there is little room for the viewer to “catch” themselves. The effect is very powerful.

The interview segments are interspersed with video and still images to tell the story of the conservative woman in a way understandable to those both inside and outside of the movement. To a viewer who has only seen the tea party movement through the filter of the mainstream media and popular culture, the film will be an eye opener.

Even though I’m active in politics and have followed many of the women featured in the film for years, I learned many things I didn’t already know about where they came from and what moved them to stand up in the public arena and take action.

The backgrounds of some of the women featured may surprise many – this was the part of the film I found particularly moving. These are not generally women who come from wealth and privilege. They do not fit the stereotype of the rich Republican. Some came from incredibly tough backgrounds. Some tell stories of growing up in poverty, filing bankruptcy, and overcoming other hardships.

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann tells the story of working and saving for years to afford a pair of contacts only to lose them shortly after while riding her bike. This story was an example of one of the ways she learned how much more you value things when you have to work hard and save to get them. We also learn how she struggled with some of the cases she came across in her job as a U.S. Treasury Department attorney prosecuting people unable to pay their taxes and see the Congresswoman in the AIG hearings grilling Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner about where the authority for the actions the government had taken could be found in the Constitution. (An excerpt of this exchange is featured in the trailer.)

Another interesting aspect of the movie was listening to women like Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter and Michelle Easton talk about how they viewed the roles Phylis Schlafly and Margaret Thatcher played in the history of the conservative movement, highlighting how today’s generation of conservative women are just a continuation of those who came before them.

For those surprised that so many of the women becoming active in politics today come from the right side of the aisle the film shows this is an understandable result of the feminist movement. As S.E. Cupp says in the movie, “Women like Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann are really the unintended consequences of the women’s liberation movement. For liberal feminists, this was not what they bargained for.”

This was further explained by the women talking about how they did not grow up in their mother’s generation where women were often led to believe there were limits to what they could do. They grew up seeing women in many different roles. They had no reason to fear they would not be able to do the things they are doing now — although many were surprised they ended up stepping into the leadership roles they have.

Michelle Malkin talks about the “fierceness” conservative women possess. Whether it is Sonnie Johnson saying “I am no victim” or Michelle Moore talking about how mothers are the last line of defense it is hard to deny the passion, strength, and fierceness of the conservative woman.

“Fire from the Heartland” is the second film in “The Tea Party Trilogy” that started with “Generation Zero” which outlined the cultural collapse underpinning the financial debacle. Sarah Palin called “Generation Zero” the movie of the movement, but after watching “Fire from the Heartland” I believe it has an equal claim to the title. The story of the tea party movement could not be told without telling the story of the strong, intelligent women leading it and that story is told beautifully in this film.

The first-ever film to tell the entire story of the conservative woman in her own words, “Fire from the Heartland” is a powerful statement about America at a crossroads and the women who have awakened to the crisis. With role models such as Clare Boothe Luce, Margaret Thatcher, and Phyllis Schlafly as inspiration, these women are the unintended consequence of the liberal feminist movement.

Tracing the long history of the many conservative women who have been the backbone of this great nation, from the founding mothers of our Republic to today’s “Mama Grizzlies,” this powerful and compelling documentary honors the self-made American woman.

Activists, politicians and commentators such as Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, S.E. Cupp, Dana Loesch, Michelle Easton, Sonnie Johnson, Jenny Beth Martin, Michelle Moore, Jamie Radtke, Deneen Borelli, Janine Turner, and Congresswomen Cynthia Lummis, Jean Schmidt, and Michele Bachmann share their emotional stories of hardship and triumph in their fight for freedom. These women leaders are fanning the flames of liberty across the nation.

Tomorrow, July 1st, I have the honor of co-hosting Move America Forward’s 3rd Annual Troopathon to raise money for care packages for our troops. The eight-hour broadcast, which will air live across the World Wide Web, will stream here at Big Hollywood, Big Government, Big Journalism, and Breitbart.TV from 4 p.m. to midnight, EDT. Please join us to show your support for our brave men and women fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere for our safety and for the freedom of people around the world. Here are the details from MAF:

The concept behind Troopathon is not a new idea, put on a Jerry Lewis style telethon to benefit a worthy cause, but a Troopathon is groundbreaking and innovative in that we bring together famous celebrities from radio, television, movie stars, musicians, journalists, and more to create a one-of-a-kind event with one purpose – to support our troops on the front lines in the war on terror and honor their service and sacrifice for our nation.

The goal of Troopathon is simple, send care packages to our troops, as many as we can get sponsored in a single 8-hour show. In our first year (2008) our inaugural program brought in over $1.5 million for care packages for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was the single largest shipment of care packages ever recorded. Over the two years we have done it, our innovative webcasts have brought over $2 Million for our troops. Since our organization began sending care packages in 2006, we’ve sent over 168 TONS of high quality beef jerky, Gatorade, Oreo cookies and gourmet coffee to our troops, and that’s just the beginning!

What makes troopathon such a success, and an exciting event for our troops and our supporters, is the star power we bring out! In our Troopathons we’ve been proud to have such participants as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Laura Ingraham, Gary Sinise, Jon Voight, Kevin Farley, John Ondrasik of the band Five for Fighting, Oliver North, President George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Dr. David Horowitz, Carrie Prejean and many many more!

In order to bring all these celebrities and VIPs together on the same program in one 8 hour show we utilize the latest cutting edge web-technology. We have partnered with the breakout success startup company Usteam.TV for two years in a row, who provide the technical wizardry that makes the Troopathon a success. Thanks to the technical expertise of our staff and Ustream.TV, we’re able to bring all our guests together on the same broadcast, despite their busy schedules, and broadcast the troopathon to hundreds of thousands of viewers worldwide. Even our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan who are lucky enough to have internet access love to log on and see the outpouring of support for themselves! Each troopathon we make contact with our troops in Iraq and this year we will do the same!

Our third annual Troopathon, titled “Standing for Our Soldiers” promises to be the best yet! Keep coming back and checking troopathon.org as further details will be forthcoming!

Garry Trudeau Is an Untalented Sack of Poop

If Doonesbury did not relentlessly spout knee-jerk liberal tripe in every panel, it would not exist. It’s the only cartoon given tenure—in that the media cut Garry Trudeau slack because they all believe his heart is in the right place, even though his stuff sucks harder than something that really sucks.

But in our hearts, we all know the truth: The strip is neither amusing nor interesting. Worse, the dude can’t draw for shit. Essentially, Trudeau has been a recipient of comic strip welfare his entire career. No one has had the guts to cut him off. It’s too bad, because Funky Winkerbean really deserves his spot.

Reporters Are Always Fearless in Movies Made About Reporters

I remember a few years back, a polling company measured public perceptions of twenty-three professions, and journalists ended up ranked at the bottom. Just 13 percent of eleven hundred U.S. adults said the occupation of journalist had “very great prestige,” while 16 percent said it had “hardly any at all.” Meanwhile, 61 percent said the most prestigious job was firefighter, noting that they were also great strippers at bachelorette parties.

And yet, Hollywood has spent the last seventy years glorifying the role of journalists, while it’s made only one Backdraft (possibly two, I can’t remember). Robert Redford can play a journalist on the big screen, but we all know that in real life, journalists look more like me—pudgy, pasty drunks with moderate to unhealthy obsessions with unicorn porn (or uniporn, for short). Aside from those brave souls who really put themselves in harm’s way in war-torn countries—for the rest of us hacks—journalism is about as heroic as dentistry. And dentists have cooler instruments. And nitrous.

I know this, for I used to be a print journalist, it’s true. But I spent my time doing what all good journalists should do: trying to find my pants. If I could have cloned myself and created a press corps entirely of Gregs, I would have, but until then I refuse to learn how to read and urge you to do the same.
