Every so often, my father-in-law, Angelo, will bust my chops saying, “Hey, Mike! I talked to a real Marine today!” Then he’ll clap me on the shoulder and chuckle in that Jersey City “you’re a good kid” kind of way. Full disclosure: I served for four...

Dear Leader wins the Nobel Prize – In stockbroker parlance, this award is a "put," betting on the come. Possibly the first time in history the prize has been awarded for what someone might do. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/09/raw-da...
This meddling in our internal politics is insufferable. I'm going to boycott Norwegian pickled herring, farmed salmon, and Volvos.
I just heard this on my local early morning news show and on news radio on my way to take my son to behind the wheel …apparently barack obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize….they would have called the WH sooner…but they didn't want to wake him……i threw up in my mouth a little when i heard it…..
It's interesting that the entry deadline for the prize was February 1st. Projecting are we?
And oh yeah: Doris Day is HOT!
Wow! Doris Day. Now THATS a movie star!
Fed up with Obama? Check out these songs at: http://www.myspace.com/rogerweber
You'll feel better.
The massive spending glut being inflicted on us has got to be paid for somehow. If allowed to continue, with medical and other social engineering entitlements crowding out everything else, I fear it will be with a combination of a massive increased tax burden (sure to depress economic recovery) and debilitating reductions in national security spending, a favorite hobby horse of the left. Gut our military and the rest of our national security apparatus and we're a debtor nation vulnerable to the mere threats of missiles from mullahs and hints from the Chinese that they will dump our bonds. It is time to reclaim the asylum from the lunatics starting with next month's elections. Fortunately, it appears that the voters of Virginia are about to send a message. Bob McDonnell, the Republican candidate for Virginia Governor, according to the "Washington Post's" most recent poll, has opened a wide lead over his Democrat opponent. I sure hope it holds until November 3.
The One thing President Obama has accomplished in his first year as president: Made the Nobel Peace Prize irrelevant. If merely talking about non-proliferation of Nukes gets you a Peace Prize, they are now given out in Cracker Jacks.
Got this from a friend: "Years ago, when Eisaku Sato won the Nobel Peace Prize, I remember a Japanese commentator whose reaction was 'What are they doing? Are they trying to make fun of Japan?'"
Ditto.
I wish I could take this rainy day off and watch Doris Day movies.
The Nobel Peace Prize? Really? I mean that's not a joke? I cannot get my brain to accept that…I just can't.
Good News… NASA apparantly has had a successful LCROSS mission. The probe made a successful impact on the moon.
Absrud News…Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize for looking cool.
In related news, The Obama Administration is seriously defunding NASA. They have cancelled the planned Manned Moon Missions. They want to extend the Aging Shuttle Fleets Operational Lifetime once again. (This will not end well)
This just in…White House Carpenters will be hard at work this morning widening the doors at the White House to more easily allow the infalted head of the President to easily fit through.
I suppose that Roman Polanski was the runnerup for his lifetime accomplishments in "outreach to youth."
I thought it was a joke headline too, or I misread it.
Sorry for the rants, Doris. I'm a lifetime fan. Have had a huge crush on you since the first time I saw you in film and when you waved to my Mom and flashed that wonderful smile next to us at the stoplight in LA – true story – Mom was thrilled.
It's just that the Nobel Committee has caused my head to explode this morning. Wifey woke me up as the news was announced on the FNC. I thought I was having a nightmare.
Yeah. I don't think he'd even gone on his first apology tour at that point. They must be psychic!
Yet another victory for a "man of color" who's not George Bush…Basically, this strikes me as mostly a smack at Bush. "See, we'll give the Peace Prize to another American president, just not you!"
I guess this removes any lingering doubts that the peace prize has become a popularity contest of the left, kind of like the Oscars and the Emmys. And it means about as much to most of us…
Just lost all respect, no make that regard for the Nobel Committee. It now ranks in importance with the MTV Awards.
White House upset about lunar "bombing" mission. Demands to know whether all alternatives were explored. Gibbs to issue statement apologizing for innocent civilian casualties.
MTV Awards have a bigger audience.
Nobel Peace Prize!?!
What a revoltin' development this is!
Gimme a break!
The prize from a box of CrackerJacks would be over doing it.
It (the prize) has been irrelevent for quite some time.
The Nobel Committee has confirmed that it has morphed from being a group that REWARDS world leaders to a group that attempts to INFLUENCE world leaders. Quote from Nobel Committee Chairman Thorbjoern Jagland in Reuters article:
"We hope this can contribute a little bit to enhance what he is trying to do," he told a news conference."
And I think they're generally awarded to people who have done something, right?
Oslo: WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT?
Now, the Nobel Peace Prize has offically jumped the shark.
I'm going to boycott everything Norwegian, except hot Norwegian blonds.
McDonnell is a veteran, has been an effective attorney general, and comes from Northern Virginia, an important voting block for a state race. His Democrat opponent, who has no apparent platform or ideas, has been trying to paint him as an extreme right-wing misogynist because of a paper McDonnell wrote in grad school 20+ years ago. The Dems are running an ad with women tsk-tsking McDonnell's supposed current views and basically saying "we know what you wrote." McDonnell has countered effectively by pointing out that he has raised independent daughters, one of whom is currently serving in the military. He also had a good ad last night featuring women (of all types and colors) who have worked with him setting the record straight as to his current attitude toward women.
And for the record, what he wrote in his paper was efffectively that women working outside the home has an adverse effect on the family. He didn't say it should be outlawed, he just pointed out something that should be obvious to anyone with a functioning brain…which is why the Democrats don't get it…
Carter won it for nothing more than trashing Bush.
Does anyone know whether Neville Chamberlain ever won the Nobel Peace Prize? If he didn't, his descendants should cry foul…or racist!
Next thing you know they'll be giving Dear Leader my daughters spelling bee trophy
The newest and the one and only requirement for winning the Peace Prize? A well-demonstrated anti-Jew bias.
In my view, this choice did not cheapen the prize; it had already been devalued to zero by past choices.
If you have a friend or family member in the military, particularly in the National Guard, ask that person: "How will you respond if and when you're given an unlawful order to detain, capture or kill American citizens?"
I'm growing more concerned that ThuggObama might declare a "national state of emergency" where Dear Leader will, in effect, do exactly that.
Doris Day is still alive, why didn't she get the Nobel Peace Prize?
My money was on Hugo Chavez.
Well said!
This should be renamed as the European pandering and appeasement prize.
Even I knew this one Doris Day.
Obamo wins the Nobel Peace Prize I just can't stop laughing.
It took Jimmy Peanut 4 years of destorying America for such high recognition I think the fact Obamo did it in only 9 months speaks volumes.
First Letterman, then Ophrah and now the Nobel Peace Prize Committe Barack Hussein Obamo mmm, mmm, mmm.
Probably a bigger shock that he didn't win!
WTF — My initial reaction to the news about Barack Obama getteing the Nobel Peace Prize
Now? Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)
See, I managed a Doris Day reference!
BTW – Miss Day received the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 1989 i9n recognition of a lifetime achievment in motion pictures.
Our president is nominated two weeks after the inauguration, and he gets the big prize for 'his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" without doing anyting tangible except showing up, looking good, and talking a good game.
And, of course, not being George W. Bush helps!
Now that's the ticket!
I was outraged to read that Joe Scarbough compared the President's Nobel Peace Prize win to Marisa Tomei's Oscar for "My Cousin Vinnie". That is a rude and wholely uncalled for comparison. Ms. Tomei gave a winning performance in one of the best comedies of the '90's and her recent work in such films as "Until the Devil Knows You're Gone" and "The Wrestler" shows the performance was no fluke.
Now if Scarbough had compared Obama's win to Mira Sorvino's win for "Mighty Aphrodite", I'd have been okay with that.
Please, it's drinking and dancing that got us into this mess.
Me too. So far the biggest thing he's done is win an election. I've done that–I was senior class treasurer. Where's my million bucks?
Maybe if Doris had put out a little more, Rock Hudson wouldn't have strayed to the dark side.
It's given for "those who make a lasting effect in bringing aobut world peace", right? And Netanyahu and Arafat once shared the award?
It became a joke then, but now it's become a joke on Letterman.
It's like one of those horror movies. You know, the pretty girl's about to go into the dark basement and you're all "Don't go into the dark basement. Please don't go into the dark basement!"
Yeah, like that.
Read a tale to make all Hollywood shiver:
THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF MY WALLET
http://naturalfake.wordpress.com/2009/10/08/the-u...
Looking good? I beg to differ. Apparently Oslo can be bought off easier than Copenhagen. Besides that, look at all the "peace" our soldiers have been getting lately.
This ranks right up there with ChiaObama…..
Good grief… for what? This guy hasn't done ANYthing- and what's he's proposing- "a world without nuclear weapons"- is unfortunately not a goal shared by those most likely to use them.
Along with Obama's lack of support for defensive missile technologies… how is this any different than unilateral disarmament /capitulation to Tehran and Pyongyang?
http://reaganiterepublicanresistance.blogspot.com
I don't know, Nathan, but I do know someone's leg is tingling this morning…
That emergency will be 2 weeks after the 2012 elections….after he loses….And I have that problem…my son is in the National Guard…All we can do is pray and keep fighting..
Not Netanyahu, Carter. Would that it were Netanyahu, alone. If peace comes in the Middle East, it will be because men like Netanyahu stood up to the bullies.
So who here knew/heard about obama being awarded the Nobel Peace prize?
Ridiculous.
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_an...
lol..but I said the SAME thing when I read the news this morning. WTF?
ditto Rt!
The only thing better then Doris Day movies is Audrey Hepburn Movies.
"not being George W. Bush"
THAT was the clincher right there!
I agree Tommy, why besmirch a perfectly good actress' name.
When I heard it, I burst out laughing. From the posts I'm reading here, this is the common reaction.
It was Arafat and Rabin, for "their efforts to create peace in the Middle East."
They've made a habit of giving it to terrorists, do-nothings (UN peacekeeping forces?!) and the like.
http://nobelprizes.com/nobel/peace/peace.html
There's nothing worse than receiving a prestigious award that everyone knows you don't deserve. Ha ha ha! Too bad that Yassar Arafat isn't alive to extend his congratulations.
Re Doris Day, for those who know the song, please sing along to this Hal David-Burt Bacharach ditty.
"Ever since the day that you went away
You've been sending flowers to me.
Send me no flowers today
Got a lot of flowers
And what I miss
Is being in your arms again."
That's ok… I lost all faith I had in that prize when Al Gore won it for his pseudo-science… Our whole Meteorology dept. (the students anyway) where laughing our butts off.
The Nobel Peace Prize has been given to someone who did nothing to bring peace to the world. When he's done in 4 years and this country has been through the wringer, will they revoke it? Or will the just think it was more deserved since he is trying to bring the great USA to its knees. I can't believe that USA sucks = World Peace.
I heart Doris Day…. "Glass bottomed boat" has to be one of my favorites… She is so pretty….
And as far as Obama's concerned…. I am going to take a Mike Huckabee approach…. Not complain about it (lest it turns into partisan hackery) and make the left explain why he won it….
It's a good thing I didn't have faith in that prize since Al Gore won it for his "science" project….
Now it has just turned into a really expensive gold star sticker…
Clocks ticking. That Peace Prize will inevitably have American blood smeared all over it. The upside is, most guardsmen I've spoken to will back the militias that have been forming en mass around this great Republic. Too many of us see the coming horror, it can't be stopped, so much for being called paraniod.
sorry – they jumped with Al Whore. This one is redundant.
Actually it only took him ten days…
No no no Nathan, Obama has done so much more.
Why, he even authored 2 complete books……….about himself……
A friend of mine commented: Now all Obama needs is an Oscar. Maybe they’ll give him one without making a movie, he can state is intention to make a movie and win.
The Nobel peace prize lost all meaning when they awarded it to Arafat. Billboard's top 100 list has more moral weight than those over the hill socialists.
Obama won the award for the simple reason he's not George Bush.
Which, ironically was accomplished not by Obama but by term limits in the constitution.
It's a joke alright. But not the kind of joke you think it is.
Yes, in this case for not being George Bush.
I'd compare it to a tin-horn, banana republic dictator, strutting around with a bunch of self granted medals, on a flamboyant uniform.
This is fascinating, in a "wow look at all that blood in the car wreck" kind of way.
NPR is doing back flips, front flips, and in general playing twister with themselves trying to pretend Obama's Nobel prize is anything more than the socialist equivalent of 5th graders voting for the most popular kid.
They are actually trying to say this was done to help Obama deal with Iran. Yeah. This going to put Iran, their munchkin president (I don't even try to spell that name), the Revolutionary Guard, hammas and hezzbollah on notice.
They already know what a joke it is when Arafat got it.
I sincerely hope this "peace" Prize will give our President the confidence he needs. Because I predict he won't be going overseas to talk peace — but right in his own backyard. I predict the first war zone will be the City of Detroit. A city in ruins, 28% unemployment and last Wednesday, 50,000 residents showed up at the Arena looking for financial assistance when there was only enough for 3,400. I'm surprised there wasn't anarchy.
My favorite actress of all time is Doris Day. Thank you for posting.
Maybe the Nobel Committee was afraid that Kanye West would have another outburst if they didn't give Obama the peace prize.
I loved Doris Day and Jimmy Cagney in LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME. She never looked so beautiful or sang so beautifully. Great movie. She has been on the O'Reilly Factor but only by phone. I think she is a conservative.
Laugh. Cry. I am taking smug pride that my assessment of Obama has been right one. Obama is the repressive state's best friend. The Peace Prize committee never awards a prize to a world leader who actually accomplishes something toward greater freedom in the world.
Holy cow but that should be a t-shrit immediately! I literally LOL'ed.
Bless you!
Is this another one of those "Special Olympics" moments Barry?
At least in the Special Olympics you have to actually accomplish something to get your medal.
Nobel Peace Prize? But we just bombed the moon!
Nobel Peace Prize? It is as Winston Churchill said in 1938: first we get the dishonor, and later we will have war anyway.
Nobel Peace Prize? It is as Winston Churchill said in 1938: first we get the dishonour, and later we will have war anyway.
Doris Day rocks!!!
Doris Day rocks!!!
Doris Day rocks!!!
I have finally caught the Obama follower disease, and this morning was filled with "Hope" and a feeling of "yes I can!!!!". All I need to do is develop an attractive face, cultivate a brood of star-struck followers, and work on my ability to spew meaningless B.S., and maybe one day, I can win the Peace Prize.
Probably not, but the prize was rendered meaningless in any event when that huckster of biblical proportions, Saint Al Gore, won the prize for pulling the wool over the eyes of millions, maybe even billions.
It will look good on his mantlepiece right next to his "no-jobs" prize.
Are you suggesting something along the lines of a Reichstag fire perhaps? There are lots of lessons to be learned in history, and lots of reasons to remain vigilant.
LOL!
and thuffering thucotasth
LOL!
and thuffering thucotasth!
HA!
and agree with T-shirt idea . . .
great description of NPR . . .
Doris Day: "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" – my fave.
"will they revoke it?"
According to their rules, the vote is final and the award irrevocable. The vote, by the way, was unanimous. The IOC could teach the Nobel committee a thing or two.
LOL
Do you happen to be aware of the "Blow Up the Moon" sketch featured a number of years ago on Mr. Show With Bob and David? There was this whole, big patriotic craze about it, until the monkey who was supposed to drive the spacecraft, and who was familiar with rudimentary sing language, asked "Why?" He nearly ruined it for everyone.
Sadly, I´ve never seen it.
Nobel Peace Prize? To a wanton killer of flies?
It is obviously meant to make it easier for Obama to do what he means to do with regard to Iran: nothing.
As I have pointed out a million times by now, Obama only cares about permanently changing American society, which he despises and publicly trashes at every opportunity. He is convinced that foreign entanglements are a distraction, that wars could mean the end of his domestic change agenda. All he wants is kick the can down the road. In his mind, America is the source of these problems anyway. That is why, when he is done with inflicting fundamental change on us, nuclear terrorism won´t matter. But of course such a work is never quite done, so anything that happens in 2010 or 2020 will still be our fault.

He will just see this as a mandate to push harder for his fly-killing agenda.
Everyone must have a government-issued swatter.
Absolutely agree. Marisa was great in that movie.
Rush said that the NFL announced that the KC Chiefs have won the Superbowl.
Sure, it isn't until February and the Chiefs aren't doing so great but hey! Their intentions are good.
Rush commented that finally his head will fit his ears.
The Nobel prize thing just proves how behind the curve Europeans are.
What you must understand is that European newspapers, if they reflect US opinion at all, faithfully follow the NYT and Washington Post. Whom does a typical Washington foreign correspondent know? Other journalists and liberal DC types. Who else is there? So the Euros come to share the liberal hatred for middle America. There is a Euro-US echo liberal chamber where they confirm to each other that the US is this horrible, racist, rightwing, unjust system that somehow is also very free, creative and attractive to immigrants. Naturally they associatate all the good traits with liberals, i.e. people who are like them. No wonder Obama is a kind of American Gorbatchev to them, breaking the system. This prize is not a sign of affection for the US.
That does it……………………………I'm done buying dynamite too.
Yes, Sentimental Journey was my mom's favorite song.
America's first black President wins the Presidency by espousing a positive message that the rest of the world also appreciates.
And Republican's have a problem with the resulting Nobel Peace Prize.
figures.
Our country is so LOST… An incompetent "Rock Star" in the White House who is destroying this country and destroying our international strength in order to be "loved". I have seen the Nobel Peace Prize as nothing more than a joke after it was given to Arafat-hmmm a radical Muslim who held Israel in contempt…
Obama refuses to release any of his personal records-long form BC, school records, thesis etc.- all of our modern day candidates have released this stuff or the media would hunt it down-but everyone including Republicans, Conservatives and the MEDIA let this jerk get away with this because they are AFRAID of being labled a "birther". Obama has spent over 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS so he doesn't have to release these documents!
THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY WHEN WE LET AN ELECTED OFFICIAL AND "NOBEL PEACE PRIZE" WINNER GET AWAY WITH THIS. SOMEBODY IN THE MEDIA NEEDS TO GROW A PAIR AND PUT PRESSURE ON THE PRESIDENT TO RESPECT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND RELEASE ALL OF HIS PERSONAL DOCUMENTS!
I have no idea what, if anything, he is hiding- that is not the point! He OWES America these documents and now he owes them to the world- being a historic figure and all…
Just posted first blog. Not sure if it's any good, but would appreciate any feedback.
RtThinker.blogspot.com
Who nominated Obama???
"The identity of the person who nominated Obama will not be made public unless that person steps forward." says some online source.
Looking forward to that piece of information!
Yassir Arafat and Al Gore have won it also. Doesn't really mean much. Goes to show what buffoons those folks making the choice are. I'm surprised they didn't pick Ahmadienjad.
Not to mention the Obama commemorative coin sets so prevalent round the inauguration.
Apparently that means you're a numbskull. I was just in a graduate seminar where the professor mentioned something about it and how all the conservatives are being critical, and he said, "I hear that and I just want to be like…" And he smacked his forehead. I'm sure he thought he was being funny.
Washington Monthly does a fine job of summarizing it:
For all the recognition of George W. Bush's unpopularity, it's easy to overlook the ways in which the international community was truly mortified by the U.S. leadership during the Bush era. The irreplaceable leading nation could no longer be trusted to do the right thing — on use of force, torture, rule of law, international cooperation, democratic norms, even climate change. We'd reached a point at which much of the world was poised to simply give up on America's role as a global leader.
And, love him or hate him, President Obama changed this. I doubt anyone on the Nobel committee would admit it, but the Peace Prize is, to a certain extent, an implicit "thank you" to the United States for reclaiming its rightful place on the global stage.
It's indicative of a degree of relief. Much of the world has wanted America to take the lead again, and they're rightly encouraged to see the U.S. president stepping up in the ways they hoped he would. It's hard to overstate the significance, for example, of seeing a U.S. president chair a meeting of the United Nations Security Council and making strides on a nuclear deal.
This is not to say Obama was honored simply because he's not Bush. The president really has committed himself to promoting counter-proliferation, reversing policies on torture, embracing a new approach to international engagement, and recommitting the U.S. to the Middle East peace process. But charting a new course for American leadership, breaking with the recent past, no doubt played a role.
More frivolity.
I disagree. Much of the world does not want the US to take the lead. George Bush did take the lead, and this is European socialists specifically telling Obama, to not do that.
Call them socialists, communists, progressives, liberals, dictators, what ever, they have a belief system that a strong, centrally controlled government and economy are more desirable than individual freedom. Obama is a perfect example of that old world way of thinking. He'd rather see an Iran firmly under the thumb of their munchkin president, than worry about the chaos of what they might have to deal with under a free people.
But they have it absolutely backwards. Its tightly controlled, centrally planned governments that are the most unstable. Free societies like America, where people are screaming at each other over politics and other issues, are a welcome sign of political stability. Its precisely because we're stable that we are able to participate in this type of discourse. Nations like North Korea, that appear to be stable, are the ones that accidents waiting to happen.
The thought of people exercising freedom, doing what they want, beyond the control of government, terrifies them. They believe a boring, mundane, tightly controlled, miserable existence is the proper way for We The People to live. To paraphrase a modern liberal friend of mine, he's all for personal freedom for him and his friends, but he's terrified at what people he doesn't know might do with the very same freedom.
Sorry you disliked. But I appreciate the time.
Not so much I dislike, but you asked for feedback, and I gave what I felt was constructive criticism.
Satire is many things, but at its most basic form, its humor, which means it has to be funny. And I thought it was a bit more depressing than funny.
Also, for humor to really hit home – especially satire – it has to have at least a ring of truth. Pelosi loves to cash in on her Catholicism. My sister practically forced me to read a book (Being Catholic, I think), with a bunch of essays from prominent Catholics. I couldn't get past Pelosi's second paragraph. She said Matthew's Gospel is the democratic party's platform. Ugh.
Don't let me discourage you, keep at it, I've had a couple of them over the years myself. If I can help you out, I'm more than happy to try.
A Peace Prize for someone who is bent on burying his citizens in socialism. A Peace Prize for a president who immediately goes on a world apology tour preaching the evils of America. A Peace Prize for a president who listened to radical anti-American rhetoric all his life and fills spots in his administration with known communists. Used to be only the fringe element would spout conspiracy theories. Obama has taken government mistrust to a whole new level to the point main stream folks won't even take a flu shot. Every single day brings one unbelieveable situation after another with this man. Thanks for nothing to all the uninformed dunder-head voters who put this country in the position it's now in.
Wait til "Superfreakonomics" comes out. Al Gore will be regarded in history as a fanatic clinging to lies…
"Oh yeah, you blend."
and btw- the only movie i've ever watched a second time thru with the director's comments on dvd, and a lot of that was hilarious, too.
Doris Day & "Les Brown and His Band of Renown…'.Sentimental Journey' " was a favorite of Col. Potter on MASH, too.
and trolls like you desperately try to defend the Pretender-in-Chief by espousing a message of rainbows and unicorns, without any facts to back it up.
figures.
I thought it was a frigging joke. I logged on this morning and saw the 'news' on Yahoo – and I thought 'sheesh, I didn't know it was April 1st'. I started scrolling down searching for the laugh track and a 'just fooling folks, he only got NOMINATED' – but he actually won the fricking thing! I can not believe it. This is so bizarre that I'm waiting to hear "Doo dee doo dah. Doo dee doo dah" as Rod Serling informs us that we have now entered the Twilight Zone.
Thanks for expounding. At first I wasn't sure whether you thought it needed more frivolity, or you the the whole thing was merely frivolous. I am doubly indebted now. And trust me Pelosi is anything but a Catholic, no matter how she portrays herself.

Did the Nobel panel award The Prize to 'O' as a consolation prize / parting gift for being 'dissed in Denmark ' last week?
Doris Day: Even in 'serious' roles..she always seems like sun beam. Enjoyed her in the Rock Hudson series, and she had great chemistry with James Garner (Move Over Darling, The Thrill Of It All)….and remember she was a super song stylist with Les Brown and His Band of Renown…'.Sentimental Journey' is a classic. Just listen to it! No tortured soaring notes….just straight head singing. Her vocals have a fresh quality after all these years.

You Americans don't seem to realise you have a great President in Obama – it's all bitch, bitch, bitch – what is the matter with you people?
I love Doris too.
Chinese Human Rights Activist Hu Jia – imprisoned for campaigning for human rights in the PRC, not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.
Wei Jingsheng, who spent 17 years in Chinese prisons for urging reforms of China’s communist system. — not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama. (Not to mention the symbolic value of awarding a Chinese dissident on the 20th Anniversary of the Tianenmen Square Massacre.)
Greg Mortenson, founder of the Central Asia Institute has built nearly 80 schools, especially for girls, in remote areas of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan over the past 15 years – not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.
Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, a philosophy professor in Jordan who risks his life by advocating interfaith dialogue between Jews and Muslims, also not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.
Afghan human rights activist Sima Samar. She currently leads the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission and serves as the U.N. special envoy to Darfur and is apparently also not as worthy as Barack Hussein Obama.
Best Doris Day movie…"Young Man with a Horn" She was smokin hot in
this film with Kirk Douglas. Great tunes…based on the snake bit life of
Bix Beiderke.
Everyone has missed the mark on "o" getting the peace prize, It is for taking 'Wify' to NYC for dinner and a show, there by insuring domestic peace.
Doris Day——A Class Act!
This is the kind of naive nonsense that could only come from provincial American liberals. Having lived in Europe I have witnessed rabid anti-Americanism since the Carter administration. I could say a lot, but in the end, when Bush left office the anti-American governments of Chirac and Schröder had been already been replaced with centrist ones. That was one of his many gifts to Obama. On the other hand, Japan just elected an anti-American one. Should we blame Obama for that?
Second, the mostly exaggerated or false stories about torture, rule of law, democratic norms etc. originated with American liberals. The European press follows the American "elites" in condemning the US. Bush has objectively done nothing to justify European outrage. The European left took it and ran with it. Michael Moore sold more books in Germany than in the US. You can thank him and his ilk.
Now THAT is American hubris. Relief about what? Which countries? They are not going to do anything effective with regard to nuclear proliferation or they would already have – we didn´t stop them. Torture? Unlike you, they know already that we don´t torture. Some use torture themselves. They are comfortable dealing with regimes of all kinds – no vitriol in the European press towards Putin´s Russia, which actually blackmails European countries and generally does everything the US have ever been accused of and then some.
Call me when the Europeans, Russians, Chinese etc. do more for us or with us than they have done in recent years.
Now THAT is American hubris. Relief about what? Which countries? Which country actually gives a damn about third world peoples being killed or oppressed? Those who count – apart from us – are not going to do anything effective with regard to nuclear proliferation or they would already have. We didn´t stop them. Torture? Unlike you, they know already that we don´t torture. Some use torture themselves. They are comfortable dealing with regimes of all kinds – no vitriol in the European press towards Putin´s Russia, which actually blackmails European countries and generally does everything the US have ever been accused of and then some.

Bush was actively engaged and had tangible successes in Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Libya, Liberia, Haiti, Lebanon, Southern Sudan, Indonesia. The cheap catcalls from selfinterested and/or unconcerned parties does not change that; it´s just a kind of sport for them.
Obama has insulted or bullied Britain, India, Honduras (where he opposes constitutional government!), Israel, Poland etc – all important and friendly countries. He cuddles or rewards those who do not deserve it and will never reciprocate: the regimes of Venezuela, Iran, Burma, Sudan, the Taliban etc. Then there is his stance against free trade. Obama is thoughtless and strategically inept and we will reap the results sooner or later. It´s not for nothing that Sarkozy makes sarcastic jokes about him. The Nobel Peace Prize does not change that.
Schröder is a good example, by the way. He supported and took part in an unilateral war on Serbia, against the objections of Russia and with no blessing from the UN. He was also engaged in shameless pro-war propaganda, some of which was later exposed as untrue in the German media but no one cared much. Do you really think his grandstanding over Iraq sprang from a genuine concern over international rules which he had flouted himself? Or was it a cheap and costfree way to get reelected with the votes of the left despite having implemented unpopular welfare cutbacks? Considering he was a radical in the 1970s and 1980s who already disliked the US and what the US stand for? Get real.

You can have him.
This is the kind of naive nonsense that could only come from provincial American liberals. Having lived in Europe I have witnessed rabid anti-Americanism since the Carter administration. They pay np price for bashing the US while freeriding on our political and military commitments.
Yet another fine example of the Stockholm syndrome gone awry- crazy Swedes are eating too much smorgasbörd again. Speaking of lutefisk, herring and meatballs, here's something that may ruin dinner. http://www.usdebtclock.org.
When you see it all on one page, it is ominous & foreboding.
