Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

Shirly is from Central Pennsylvania as I recall. A great singer/actress who probably is best known for the horrible Partridge Family.
When will Andrew Breitbart be back on Bill Maher's show? The night he was on was the only time I didn't regret watching that show.
Whoever that is, I saw her driving a school bus.
Fell in love with her as a kid. She's beautiful, sings like a bird and is a conservative.
Loved this movie, one of my all time favorites. I was lucky enough to meet Miss Jones in the mid-1990s; I had just had minor surgery on my face, and she was so sweet, asking if it hurt, and was I okay. I had always admired her, and it was neat to see that besides being a great talent, she was a caring, kind person as well.
I try not to miss her whenever she is on tv; only she would be believable as the "older woman" Drew Carey fell for…..
Two of my early crushes were on Shirley Jones and Pat Crowley (Please Don't Eat the Daisies, etc.). Actually, I still have those crushes. They are lovely, talented singers and actresses.
Must have been the short bus you were on. You give us minutes of entertainment and enlightenment of the weak opposition on the other side.
Oh, saw Patricia Heaton's new show last night and loved it:

I loved Oklahoma when I was a kid. I thought Shirley Jones was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen. But my crush was on Gordon McRae. I really, really wanted to marry a cowboy when I grew up.
Be nice Todd or I'll scare you with more Olbermann.
They should use listening to Olbermann as enhanced interrogation at Gitmo. I'd rather be waterboarded.
SMOKIN' Hot (and playing against type) in "Elmer Gantry"
And she has aged so well. Over on a Fark thread about "hot librarians", a recent picture of Ms. Jones was posted to almost universal acclaim.
Now I gotta go dig out my DVD of The Music Man.
Am I a bad American for A) not really giving a rip whether or not Chicago got the Olympics or not/not being that cheesed that the President lobbied for them or B) actually thinking samba-influenced opening ceremonies ought to be incredibly entertaining?
I LOVE Shirley Jones – she was awesome in the "Music Man" (and damn, she could act too which is why she won for "Elmer Gantry"). Love her.
This is an open thread so I'm linking an article in the WSJ about media bias (who knew?) The WSJ compared articles in the media about Reagan's unemployment versus those today about Obama's. And the difference? "(20) of 22 stories mentioning the Reagan administration portrayed it negatively, versus 1 out of 15 that mentioned the Obama administration." Folks, that's a 91% to 6% difference! That's about as 'fair and balanced' as a boulder against a pea.

Shirley Jones ranks way up in my top beautiful women in the world, second only to Maureen O'Hara. She is just as beautiful today as she was during the fliming of "Oklahoma!".
Not at all. I am also curious as to what a Brazil style opening ceremony will look like.
It will be different in any case.
I'm with you on A, B not so much, being a red blooded American male with a healthy passion for the opposite sex and not being encumbered with a spouse, not having the good fortune to marry, I kind of look forward to the samba sashaying about if previous Rio Carnival parades are any indication. However I do like your point.
After Bill Clinton dies he goes directly to Hell. Upon arriving he is met by Satan, who informs him that Hell is currently full but since he really deserves to be there, they will make special arrangements by letting someone else leave to make room for Bill. And, as a special favor, he will be given a choice of people to replace. Satan then leads Bill to a room with three doors.
The first door opens. Behind the door is Nancy Pelosi. She’s being worked over with a blowtorch. Upon seeing Nancy in this predicament, Clinton cringes and says, "That looks painful. I don't think this is for me."
The second door opens. Behind door #2 is Harry Reid. His skin is being stripped off with a pair of pliers. Grimacing at the bloody scene, Clinton again says, "I don't think this is for me."
The third door opens and behind it is Ted Kennedy. He is naked and bound hand and foot. Kneeling before him is Monica Lewinsky, doing what she does best. "I can handle that!" Clinton proclaims enthusiastically.
"Very well," says Satan. "Monica, you've been pardoned – you may go now."
Don't knock the Partridge Family, man. That was part of my wholesome TV viewing when I was a kid (reruns, of course – I wasn't allowed to watch Melrose Place or whatever the other kids were watching).
A lot nuder, that's for sure! ;-D
"Zombieland" gets 5/5 from me. It's what "Capitalism" and "The Invention of Lying" aren't – really really freakin' entertaining.
I HATE the Olympics anyway. I like professional, big-league, American sports.
The way I look at it, the Olympics Games are about:
1. Screwing Jim Thorpe
2. Kissing Hitler's a**
3. Those a-holes giving the "Black power" salute in Mexico City
4. Terrorist murder in Munich
5. Adding time to the game clock until the Soviet b-ball team went ahead on the scoreboard
6. East German "women" athletes
7. Kissing up to the Chi-Coms
8. Nauseating TV features on the athletes' "personal struggles"
9. Hype
10. More hype
(I DID enjoy the 1980 medal round in ice hockey, though.)
Carolyn, have you ever seen the ratio of homeless stories during the 80s compared to 1992-2001. Fair & balanced my sweet Aunt!!!
Gee – Were you under it when it rolled over your head? That's the only thing that could possibly explain such a uselless comment.
The 1st time I saw her was on "The Partridge Family." It was required viewing when I was in grammar school, along with "The Brady Bunch." Heck, my third grade teacher's name was Shirley. After seeing her in other movies and TV shows I always found her to be beautiful in more ways than just looks, with talent to boot.
ROFL!
Hey, we're gaining ground!
Thorien – "shirly" you jest! Actually, there is nothing really wrong with that show for what it was. However, for the youngsters who never saw her do musicals earlier in her career, more's the pity!
That Bill Clinton joke reminds me of Supernatural, since Dean was down on the killing floor of Hell last season. I haven't seen this week's episode, but there was an article here in the spring talking about how theologically sound the show has become. Is that still the consensus? The angels being no better than the demons and God being proclaimed dead doesn't seem too sound to me. I feel like I'm going to be struck down at times just for watching. I'm not even sure why I am watching, since I liked the original "fighting the monster of the week that is straight out of an urban legend" premise a lot better. And, I've felt a distance between myself and the show since they started getting partisan political. I guess it's because this is supposed to be the last season and no sense jumping out of the car now.
By the way, nice to see the open thread back again.
You did not include a lesser event, maybe number 11, the contest of who most lined the IOC execs
pockets as brought to an apex in the UTAH winter Olympics.

Good point. That's why I'm surprised that despite being so well versed in the arts of graft, the Chicago Outfit couldn't seal the deal.
I was swept clean on the IOC coments as well as yours. do you still have them?

They have returned.
I wonder what the Denmark may have cost them under the table.
It use to be a bribe was needed to just get in the game.
Once there the price went up.

Oh, Shirley Jones!!!
Hey, this Olympic thing. Whatever international goodwill President Barack Obama may have accrued has been wiped clean by his self-aggrandizing sense of entitlement.
The president is a lawyer; and lawyers don't ask questions they don't know the answer to. One would think lawyer/presidents would be especially shy about gambling with their prestige in an arena where the outcome is uncertain. How could he fly all the way to Copenhagen (at what cost?) without a guarantee? Arrogance. That's how. He's been reading his own press clippings.
Many believed the election of Barack Obama would boost world opinion of the United States. Instead, it's the return of the ugly American.
I loved her in "Music Man" also. When I was a kid we would watch it would be on TV the 4th of July for some reason.
Aaaah the young Hillary !!
Shirley Jones, enormously talented performer, and tragically, like Julie Andrews and Liza Minnelli, was right at the height of her powers when the kind of music she specialized in was going out of fashion for the mass audience. Twenty years earlier, she would have been a superstar.
Sorry I misread your article B. I do agree with your take on the opening parade for the aforemention
reasons.
What?????????
I always knew her more for Oklahoma! and Carousel… But that's because my mom was really into musicals and they didn't have Partridge Family on video at that time…
Oh I forgot she was in that too…
I was just a lad when I had my second crush on a movie star, Jean Simmons was my first. Shirley was the unlucky receipient of number 2,, to paraphrase EX Pres. Carter's admission, I lusted after in my heart. Then I found out she was, I believed, involved with the ownership of Rolling Rock beer, I lusted openly, to no avail, which goes without saying. I still adore her.
Pat Crowley – Please Don't Eat the Daisies. I watched that show when I was a kid. Pretty women.

Now THAT is the funniest thjing I have seen in a long time! I especially like one of the comments:
To paraphrase Michelle Obama: “For the first time in my life, I am proud of the IOC”.
A real triple threat: Beautiful, could act, and could sing better than about anyone. If I had leanings in that direction, I'd be in love with her. And a conservative!! Bonus!
I hope to the Sweet Lord Jesus that you're a chick…
When did he ever actually work as a lawyer, though?
Oh, I grew up with the musicals, too! I think I'd seen nearly every Rodgers and Hammerstein movie before ever seeing an episode of the PF.
