Now failing newspapers are looking for bailout money from the Obama administration. Don't they realize, the fastest way to destroy a friendship is to borrow money from a pal?
Man, you're hitting my biggies here, first Cary, now Audrey.
Audrey's first major film, Roman Holiday captivated audiences worldwide and I've been hooked on her performance in that film ever since. Her and Greg Peck were pure magic together. And Eddie Albert was perfect as Irving.
I have to say that the Julia Ormond remake of Sabrina did have one advantage for the plot – Julia Ormond can be made to look plain.
She was a beauty wasn't she? When the great ones are gone they leave a huge hole.
Maybe since all the race cards have been played all at once, Barry needs to gather them up and reshuffle. This time he hopes the deck is not exclusively jokers and one eyed (or less) jackoffs. The sleazy, corrupt, radical machine that got him elected needs to stay out of sight til reelection. Or under the bus they go.
The governor's approval rating is 30%. The Obama-in-chief feels that Patterson's low approval will hurt the Deomcrat power base come next election, so they want a new democrat face in the gubernatorial race. Geraldo had Al Sharpton on his show to talk about it, but wasn't paying attention to what Al said.
that was my issue as well. Every time I tried to watch aomethig or read an article my brain said "ugh, don't we have some socks to darn or something?" and I proceded to shut it all out.
Who left Michael Moore?
I love, love, love that picture. But then I don't think Audrey ever took a bad picture in her life. (Same goes for yesterday's picture of Cary.)
In other news . . . I can't seem to find any Emmy threads around here (what's up with that?) so I'll put it here: Congratulations to "Little Dorrit" for its seven Emmy awards!!
since he asked Patterson not to run ….
does thatmean Obama is a Racist?
Good grief! If he bails them out then they owe him (literally). That should improve his press, completely kill their readership, and totally spell the end of print journalism. Will he want to bail out the major networks next? Oh and he wants to have a "neutral net"…that cannot happen. How on earth can that happen? Does he think we are all milquetoast and will just fall in line to always represent the other side of the issue when we express our opinions?
You wanna bait the American Public? Try to take away their right to voice their opinion. I believe this President will find that goes over just about as well as his massive spending, his pretend deficit neutral health care plan, the insanity of cap and trade, and his unbelievable statement about not following the ACORN scandal.
Yeah. I decided it was a great time to run the vacuum cleaner, take the trash to the curb, and dry the dishes my wife was washing.
In honor of Michael Moore's new film "capitalism: A love story", I am listing things I want Mr. Moore to do to prove that he is sincere about his hatred of capitalism.
1. Liquidate all your holdings (you can keep $21,000 for yourself) and give them to the people or make a gift to reduce the deficit.
2, All past and all future films you will no longer charge admission for the people to see. You will also make all films available on the INTERNET for either streaming or downloading. And give away free DVDs of your films.
3. You will let your writers join the writer's guild of America.
Do these three things, and you will prove that you are sincere and not a hypocrite. I'm not holding my breath.
It took me years to have the reason for her appeal to dawn on me. And then it did.
Here's one of the songs from FUNNY FACE with Audrey, Astaire and the remarkable Kay Thompson-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZZfvwq2DIQ – Bonjour, Paris!
ps – A nice modern day Audrey Hepburn living homage is Cote de Pablo on TV's NCIS. Delightful, delicious woman.
I didn't watch the telecast (no love for Galactica?!) but kudos to Michael Emerson for Lost and Kristin Chenoweth for Pushing Daisies, which was unfortunately canceled.
The dems dont want to lose the NY state, and know that Patterson is more than likely NOT going to be re-elected, so they want a stronger DEM throwing their hat into the election.
This IS where ACORN got their training from so it makes sense that BHO believes he DOES own everything. If I was Patterson, I would release the tapes of BHO 'crew' telling me NOT to run and help nail THAT coffee down tight. He'd probably have a shot at being re-elected.
It was/is inevitable. The failing newspapers are the propaganda vehicles for the Left. The Russian Bolsheviks had state run news; why shouldn't the American Bolshies?
Bailing out the Newspapers is a terrible idea.
That would turn them into thoughtless, Left Wing, tools, of the State.
Oh sorry, was I being redundent.
What's going on with Big Hollywood? Half my posts won't go through; half will. Have they installed a word limit?
Are they having trouble with their site? Their servers? It's like it was months ago when one would type a post only to have the little icon spin around or the post not go through.
Audrey, what a doll!
What are newspapers?
Bardot and Loren still sex goddesses at 75
Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren stripped off and pouted with an abandon that took the prudish 50s by storm and their sex goddess image endures even as both turn 75 this week.

AMEN….Bro
Wouldn't it be funny if Hilary ran for governor???? She's not very busy these days…
I always wanted to look like Audrey Hepburn. She was absolutely gorgeous.
In addition to being beautiful Ms. Hepburn was the icon of class and elegance. She carried herself as royalty would, but without the pretentiousness.
They're already in the tank for obama so it only stands to reason that he would help out more of his pals. It's that back scratching thing again. It doesn't matter though because all it will serve to do is spend more taxpayer dollars, piss off more and more taxpayers and the papers will still crumble.
It's "post flood control" we have it at message boards as well. It's activated by the admins of a thread/board to prevent spam or trolls from posting like madmen in a short amount of time. I think the one recently is about a minute or 90 seconds wait in between posts.
ahhh Audrey, the woman who sparked my life-long obsession with nibbling on girl's necks…….
At my movie quiz site today, I have a game about robots in the movies. Now one of the first movie robots was a fembot of a kind. Most of todays starlets are fembots, of a kind (that does mean you, Megan Fox), not coming across as particularly human onscreen.
Hepburn was beautiful, but oh so human. Vulnerable, innocent, elegant. Qualities that today's starlets need but don't even desire. Too bad for them.
(And my Audrey top five:
1) Roman Holiday
2) Charade [the Hitchcock film she never made]
3) Sabrina
4) My Fair Lady
5) Funny Face)
Comparing her to other stars of her day, she made comparatively few films, but what she made was choice.
Audrey…genuine movie star…
I walk out the front door everday past my cherished early 50's ultra-rare Argentinian half-sheet vintage movie poster of Audrey starring in "Funny Face" with Fred Astaire.
Her face makes everyday start out even better than it might have and salvages the ones destine to go bad.
I've noticed lots of issues with the current version of Java and BH. I'm finding I have to reload the page after every post or it just hangs.
I'm assuming its a work in progress.
Instead of going to what promised to be a mediocre night at the movies, my wife and I bought "How to Steal a Million" with Audrey and Peter OTool. Enjoyed it far more than we would have the junk being offered in the theaters right now.
I was recently in Rome and mentioned to my friends (half jokingly) that I had to run down the Spanish Steps like Audrey did in "Roman Holiday", so I did…and I'm a guy
There are two African Amerian govenors in the U.S.one in New York and the other in Mass. Both are collosal failures. Can people of any ethnicity be successful governors? Yes. Can they be successful as buffoons and Marxists? No.

In the Fifties era of big boobs and full hips (Monroe, Mansfield, Jane Russell, Lollabridgida, etc.) , Audrey stood out with her angular, elfin figure. Memorable lady. Classy.
The only enjoyable moments during the Emmys last night were those where I could oogle the gorgeous Jon Hamm. Otherwise, I didn't know over half the shows or nominees and winners. And don't care.
Don't be silly. Black people can't be racist.
Yeah, I've noticed that the past few days too. Often I can only get one post in at a time without it freezing up; also, on some of these discussions I'm locked out entirely and have to try over and over again until there's an open thread. That might be because I'm a guest user, but it's still annoying. And it just did it to me again! Aarrgghh!!!
Those sheets of paper we use to line the bottom of the bird's cage, and they're also helpful for cleaning fish.
Wait, you mean they're not already thoughtless, Left Wing, tools of the State? Hmph. I hate to imagine what they'll be like after Obama gets control of them.
"House" and "The Office" both got gipped last night, if you ask me (and no one is). "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," and "30 Rock" are good shows, don't get me wrong, but the only reason they cleaned up so much was because they're the shows to like in Hollywood right now. "The Office" had one of its funniest seasons this past year and basically got snubbed. I was happy, though, to see Michael Emerson get an award for "Lost." He's just too creepy as Ben Linus.
"How to Steal a Million" is a classic! The chemistry between O'Toole & Hepburn was great. The supporting cast was as good as the stars – Eli Wallach ("I've never been more relaxed in my life!")& Hugh Griffith especially – what talent!
Gillibrand's "NO" vote on denying funds to ACORN really made sense in light of the news that Obama wants her as the next Gov and for Steve Israel to go away.
My name is ReaderRedux, and I did not watch TV news for one whole day, Sunday.
Don't you just love "Mad Men"? . . . and last night's episode was great.
Signed, a resident of Missouri, Hamm's home state
That's even less likely than Moore becoming a vegetarian health nut.
Look up 'Unique", and there's Audrey Hepburn. A truly believable performer, in talent and appearance, in all her movies…comedy or drama, it doesn't matter. I saw her in 'The Nun's Story' (thanks, TCM),recently, and her performence was as compelling as when I first saw the film, some time ago, in a theater.
I'm glad Bryan Cranston won another Emmy, but Breaking Bad should have won for best drama.
I'm a registered user and I see the same thing. It was a real pain over the weekend, but it appears much better today.
Perhaps there was a code upgrade. Weekends are usully when that kind of stuff gets done.
BTW it just happened again when posting this reply.
Over at Aint-It-Cool I found the following "article" about PrezBO's appearance on Letterman tonight:
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/42420
What makes me so sad is the tenor in which this article's "author" describes the debate about health care. Here's a quote from the article:
"The president is stumping for health care reform, something I’ve been really hot to explore since I saw Michael Moore’s documentary “Sicko,” which demonstrates that socialized medicine seems to be working exceedingly well in capitalistic democracies like Canada, Britain, France and Italy."
Think of all the impressionable youth reading that. I don't know how you counteract this mindset, in the long run. I will say that it was interesting that a few of the initial commenters on the article let the author have it for his obvious bias.
Audrey Hepburn has It.

Roger had the best line of the night after the English guy got his foot run over by the out of control secretary on the John Deere mower:
\”Too bad about his foot. Just when he had gotten it in the door.\”
Wondering if anyone is following the bombshell re: the Disney/Marvel merger–the estate of Jack Kirby, who helped create many of the classic Marvel heroes (Thor, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, etc.), just smacked 'em with a lawsuit terminating rights to the characters. That ought to make things interesting, to say the least. Sorry this won't benefit the late Jack Kirby–he never profited as much as he should have from his creations.
The bloodspatter following the mower incident was shocking and hilarious. I would actually LOVE to see Tarantino direct an entire episode of the show (because if that wasn't a Tarantino moment, I don't know what is). I also enjoyed poor Sally's reaction to the doll appearing in her bedroom. (not enjoyed because I can imagine how scary it was, it was just such a true reaction) Christina Hendricks did a fantastic job this ep. Made me sympathize with a character I've never much liked. I also appreciated the JFK foreshadowing (of which they're doing a lot this season) with Joan's bloody dress in the hospital.
It's always bad. I write a post and always copy it before hitting submit–often the system gets constipated, and the only way out of it is to reload the page (which erases the post) and then paste it back in. Then it usually loads immediately. I'm on Mac/Safari, , btw
I never watch it. I ignore most of what's on TV. I tend to stick with Nick At Nite, TV Land, and the occasional foray to the Maury show – one of my few guilty pleasures.
Lately I've been watching Dragnet (1967-70) on Hulu.com – you gotta love Jack Webb.
IMHO – she never lost It.
So I keep hearing about Obama supposedly asking Patterson not to run for re-election.
I never heard why he would do that (if he did). I spend approximately zero time thinking about the New York Governor's race, so haven't kept up with it. It has to be something more than his statement that he and the president are race victims. Any ideas?
Mark Steyn has a page with emails from his readers on health care, horror stories, and other analysis.
Some of this stuff is down right scary.

Add in newspapers and radio news for an entire week. You'll love it. No one screaming at you that the world is coming to an end. Does wonders for the spirit.
It isn't his money…
Oh, that was great — Roger might be my favorite character, actually.

Bloodspatter – that was almost Monty Python-worthy. And I didn't pick up on the JFK angle – thanks for pointing that out. I'll be re-watching episode, as usual, to try to pick up all the subtleties anyway.
Sorry to get in here late…..but maybe the President could offer him a job on the board of directors at ACORN
I use IE, Windows XP. Had to erase my Firefox; too buggy. IE working much better (in case other users out there are having trouble with FF). I thought the problems I was having with BH might be due to switching (didn't see how, but hey, I don't see how caving to the Russians is going to help us either). My suspicion is that BH has gotten too popular for its own bandwith. They need an upgrade as I don't see them doing anything but growing.
You are wise. And you're right about Jack Webb.
I've gotta try that … it won't be easy.
It's easier than you think. Grab a couple non-political books you've been meaning to read. Then instead, sit back and read them. Think of it as a spiritual retreat from modern liberals.
Personally I couldn't do it anymore, I have to have my 3 hours of Rush every week day. Not so much for the politics, but for all the stories the MSM won't report, and especially the humor. I'm convinced Rush's true calling is a comedian.
"Man, you're hitting my biggies here, first Cary, now Audrey."
That’s what I was going to say!!!! A 1-2 punch!!!
"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them." –Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, 1787. ……..I think that just about says it all as far as a press bailout goes.
definitely not to good to fail
actually to bad to succeed
let them reap what they have sowed
serve.gov ——-needs to be taken down—alert your friends—–they transfer you to acorn pages when you click in Health Care—-but (he/it) says not aware of what they are doing–lying sos.
excuse me folks—-it's just that i am fed up to my eye teeth with the lies.
W00t, Charade!
I'm from NY and I've been watching the Patterson thing for some time now. He was never really that popular to begin with. His political weakness is exactly what lead to the state senate revolt last summer. Every act he takes, he seems to lose more and more political capital.
The dems know he's toast in the next election. What they want to do is avoid an expensive primary fight that'll cost who ever beats him (money is on Cuomo) time and good will.
Their main problem is not keeping the governor's office, they're almost guaranteed to do that, unless Rudy Giuliani tosses his hat in the ring. And he's currently eying it up. He can win it. That's what the NY state dems are worried about.
How much will a primary against Patterson cost their nominee, and will it be enough to hand the seat to Rudy.
I wish I could have seen George Stephanopolous's (probably) Last Obama interview he'll ever get.The snippets I've seen were pretty impressive for a Lamestream media guy.He clearly bothered the Prez. I particularly liked seeing him whipping out Websters to help the Prez with the meaning of taxation in regards to the Baucus bills forced buying of coverage or pay a fine.Rom Emmanuel probably gave George those questions to ask but failed to give the Prez. The answers.
I know most of us don't watch MSNBC,but I saw an interview with the president of Kaiser Health Services. He stated that he favored the Baucus health care exchange provision over open state borders competition.I guess we can surmise that Obama has tapped them to be in the exchange.Buy Kaiser stock NOW ! I like my Kaiser health care so I guess that's good news for us,but the rest of you are screwed.Just kidding I'm pretty sure the government is fully capable of ruining Kaiser.
It's a steampunk server in a digital world! In a basement somewhere John Nolte is running on a treadmill to keep things running.
Noble gestures from Mr. Jefferson, who did the exact opposite.
During Washington's two terms, when Jefferson was secretary of state, he colluded with James Madison to form a political party to to oppose John Adams for the presidency.
Since it would be virtual suicide to publicly attack Washington (he was a true American hero even then), they conspired to hire Philip Freneau, a journalist from Jersey as a translator working for state dept., under Jefferson.
His real job was to launch the National Gazette, a political rag, published anonymously, to attack Washington and his political allies.
In other words, We The People's tax money used to pay for what they Jefferson and Madison hoped would be the equivalent of today's New York Times, only worse.
It didn't really work, because Americans would just not stand for anyone dissing the father of their nation. But Mr. Jefferson does have a rather dark side that history classes tend to gloss over.
go ahead… shoot me
Who could squeeze in any news around all the great football?
I loved his hurt at being left completely off the chart! (maybe that's because you don't actually do anything, Roger)
Could be worse, could be Gutfeld.
Jets 2 – 0, and they beat the Pats!
Go ahead, try and tell me there's no God!
Did you see where the HHS is going after Humana for sending letters out opposing ObamaCare?

There's a better chance of Mariska Hargitay taking my hand in marriage than Roley-polly Mikey doing the aforementioned.
No.
That would leave a great hole, too.
So true.
Dang, you guys checked two of my all-time faves in two days! Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn—and sadly they only did one film together. But "Charade" is definitely one of my favorites!

Remember a few eps ago: Roger Sterling's daughter unfortunately picked November 23, 1963 as her wedding day…
And while she may be persona non grata around here, Oprah's "Mad Men" episode today was quite entertaining, especially Gayle's visit to the actual set.
I'm assuming you're being sarcastic, but its not all that far fetched, make him the White House czar for ACORN, to over see it. (Pun intended.)
In New York state, most politics takes place behind closed doors. Remember, this is state that brought us Tameny Hall. And they charge hefty admission fees to even get in the door. Notice how when Clinton ran for the senate, all the democratic challengers politely dropped out of the race? That wasn't a coincidence. That was back room arm twisting. They all got nice, cushy state jobs.
But I don't see how the democratic party can prevent Patterson from running for governor. If he flat out refuses to step aside, it will be interesting to see what the dems do. I still believe their primary goal is to prevent an ugly primary. They are campaign killers up here, and as we've already seen, Patterson has no qualms at all about playing the race card.
Keep an eye on this one to see what happens. They are terrified of Giuliani. There was talk of the GOP putting him up against Spitzer.
Its a leading indicator.
Dear President Obammy-
The term you sought was "magic bullet", not "silver bullet".
The 'magic bullet' cures, the silver bullet kills vampires and werewolves.
Thank you.
