Name this movie: An ace CIA operative, condemned as a rogue and now hunted by the Company, bashes and crashes his way through colorful foreign settings, pursued by heavily armed hit men, while back at Langley headquarters an inscrutable deputy director and one of his top lieutenants are arousing the...

Loved her in "I Married A Witch" – the film tackled the intertwining of witchcraft and the selling of one's soul quite readily, unlike the bland TV version.
Just wondering, did any of these studio photo shoots ever allow the subject to SMILE or even look somewhat happy? The despair and foreboding of the subjects presented on the ones posted here is the same. Why is that?
Was it a sign of the times( the 30's)? Or was it considered what the public wanted?
I don't like the presentation at all.
According to family lore — as oft told by my late grandmother — the lovely Constance Ockleman is some sort of 2nd or 3rd cousin.
Matt Burden AKA blogger and patriot Blackfive is running for office in the heart of the beast (Illinois). A direct link or recommendation from Andrew would mean much more than anything I might provide, but nationwide awareness and support is the first step to victory.
Democrats if you really love America please move to Canada.
I think they were supposed to look "sultry" and aloof, therefore unattainable and desireable. Nowadays, they just show some skin and get the same reaction.
I understand one of Woody Allen's relatives wanted him to watch Sullivan's Travels and understand that people don't want a navel-gazing SERIOUS film. They want to be entertained.
Sullivan's Travels is a personal favorite and Veronica Lake is wonderful in it!
I do know that her hair-do was so popular that it was the subject of a 1940s training film to warn "Rosie the Riveters" about the risk of getting it caught in a drill press.
You haven't seen enough publicity photos.

Or Iran, or Cuba or Venezuela or or or…..
I thought about this when I first heard that ACORN was being canned. I kind of suspect the same is going to be happening with Van Jones.."Tell the public what they want to hear but let's let "them" work in the background" I suspect that van jones isn't out of obama's "picture". ____ACORN votes are nothing but 'cover'__Bachmann says disgraced group still eligible for billions of tax dollars____http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pag...
Interesting interview with obama before he was elected to the senate. I think the interview was oct. 1995

Ah, Veronica Lake! Gorgeous, alluring and the only woman in Hollywood tiny enough to make Alan Ladd look tall. What a woman!
She certainly had amazing looks. Also, much sadness in her life.
The problem is…they DON'T love America.
i love sullivan's travels! saw it at the cemetery a couple of years ago.
I think they love the America they want to create, even if their ideal conflicts with founding principles, and even though it's been adherence to those principles that brought us out on the right side of the evil/hypocrisy of slavery, segregation, white male only suffrage, etc.
You are right,
My beef with the Libs is their ideas never work like they promice.
The Government has no rights to mandate me, adding a fine if I won't buy
into Obamacare.
Not quite the same reaction. ; )
WE KNOW OUR RIGHTS
The Government has no rights to mandate me, adding a fine if I won't buy
into Obamacare.
VOTE IN ENOUGH REPUBLICANS TO TAKE BACK THE HOUSE IN 2010
Smokin' hot in Sullivan's Travels. Favorite V. Lake line (there are many) "Nothing like a deep dish movie to drive people out in the open"
Worst case scenario, they shut down the operations for a couple of weeks, then reopen under a new name.
Alec Baldwin and Barbra Streisand swore that they would move to Canada if George W. Bush got re-elected.
Why should they leave now, when their party is in the White House?
The anticipation of what Andrew has coming next is almost too much to bear. Get a load of this:

I adore the way he never forgets to give credit to the two that had the gumption to go into Acorn and bring them down. Bad actors – brave brave BRAVE young adults.
Veronica Lake…right near the shores of Turhan Bey.
Sorry – been watching Bugs Bunny again.
Hear, hear!
Ah yes…..Veronica Lake! An icon of glamor in the '40s. She had that magnetism that Marilyn had, but unfortunately not the popularity, success, or talent. I was surprised to find out she was only 4'-11" tall!
More anti-Christian bigitry from Hollyweird

Absolutely caught that Obamaspeak.
How do we get out of this maze?
Veronica Lake….Yummy! That is all.
Nice choice of avatar for Big Hollywood! Sullivan's Travels has one of my favorite lines of dialogue:
"There's a lot to be said for making people laugh. Did you know that that's all some people have? It isn't much, but it's better than nothing in this cockeyed caravan." (Of course, there's nothing wrong with trying to make people think but to do so without a lecture requires great skill.)
Let's see… the last movie I watched was Force 10 from Navarone. Not a great film but very entertaining! And what a cast! You've got Han Solo, Red Grant, Jaws, Bond's babe from The Spy Who Loved Me, Admiral Ozzel from Empire, the top Nazis from Last Crusade and Raiders, M from Never Say Never Again… all this and Carl Weathers!
It also features a good score by Ron "Where Eagles Dare" Goodwin which I just ordered from Film Score Monthly/Screen Archives.
I love the old star glamour shots but when will we get back to movies? I enjoyed some of the conversations that took place.
Just curious as to whether anyone thinks that Obama is burying himself with the CIA investigation?
I can't say that I care that much for Preston Sturges, but Veronica Lake was the best thing in Sullivan's Travels. The modern dames are a bunch of skanks who can't old a candle to the stars of the 30s, 40s, and 50s.
As to the "fine", it's still cheaper than paying for insurance. Considering that under Obamacare you can't be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition.
So, pay the fine, and if you ever come down with a catastrophic disease, buy the insurance.
These people really are a brain trust. Besides which, the "fine" will probably be found to be unconstitutional and removed from the plan, leaving no penalty whatsoever for not buying in.
Did everyone catch Barry speaking to a Latino group on Wednesday, to paraphrase, “We are not going to “give” healthcare to illegals, so we just need to make them legal.” Man he’s good, problem solved, and to think I was worried.
Veronica Lake, a stunning beauty in her day.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's 32nd Annual Award Gala.
OBAMA: I want to be clear. If someone's here illegally they won't be covered under this plan, but I also want to make this clear: Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don't think we can ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken. That's why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable quality health insurance under this plan just like everybody else.
One of my favorite actresses…………
And love the fact that one of my fav. stores, BeBe is advertised here…how'd ya all know I shop there? HA!
To the soon-to-be-deceased ACORN and all of its fans:
Your favorite weapon, The Scarlet R has, once again, been unleashed by the tired, predictable and rather desperate left in America. Of course, everyone who opposes them is a "racist".
*yawn*
The gig is up, I think. Everyone is on to their insane little game, as in "Everybody Expects…the Liberal Inquisition!" at http://firebreathingchristian.wordpress.com/2009/...
Let's get this bad comedy act off the stage once and for all…
My first encounter with Veronica was in a WB cartoon–she was a spider.
To the lefty liberals and the lame stream media:
It's not that I don't like Obama because he's black (or half black, whatever);
I dislike Obama because he's RED.
Man, she was sexy. I'm in my late 30s, but Lake has fascinated me since I was a teenager. I don't know if it's because of women like her, or just my personal taste, but I've always preferred the svelte blondes in my own life over the voluptuous one. In her prime, she just oozed slinkiness. Did I mention she was sexy?
Veronica didn't smile that much because she was, generally, not a happy person: a bitter, ex-Catholic with cynical views of the world and then even more bitter (who could blame her for this?) when Hollywood dumped her by 1950 because her looks didn't meet the glamor standards.
