Jane Fonda: New Play, New Blog, Same Attitude Towards The Troops
by Larry O'ConnorJust when I thought I might run out of ideas for blog posts, I get a gift from God… Jane Fonda has started a blog in conjunction with her return to Broadway in “33 Variations!” The play, by Moisés Kaufman, sounds absolutely fascinating and when I first heard about Fonda’s casting I didn’t think I’d have much to write about since on the face of it the play doesn’t seem political. But now that her friends and fans seem to have talked Hanoi Jane into sharing her personal thoughts in a blog every day… Well, this is going to be a target rich environment!
Jane says that she was in part inspired by none other than Rosie O’Donnell to do the blog and if her musings are anything like Rosie’s, let’s just say I owe that dame a big thank you hug for influencing Henry’s daughter (I don’t usually use the word ‘dame’, but I’m hoping it annoys Rosie if she ever reads this).
A quick overview of the blog gives us an eclectic view of Jane’s days as she prepares for the previews to begin at the beautiful Eugene O’Neill Theatre. The posts range from sweet, nostalgic personal thoughts…
Today, during lunch break, I took my dog, Tulea, for a walk and it really hit me how much I miss my dad. When he returned from his stint in the Navy after WWII he went straight to Broadway to star in “Mr. Roberts.” He played that role every day for four years, never missing a performance! It was not customary in those days—the 40s and 50s—for movie stars to go back and forth from Hollywood to Broadway. But theatre was Dad’s great love. My brother and I grew up knowing and respecting this about him. He loved the immediacy of playing before a live audience. The instant feedback. He was meticulous, always doing exactly the same things, the same moves, the same inflections, every night. I have heard this from so many of his fellow actors.
…to downright strange revelations about dreaming of Robert (Bob, don’t ya know) Redford…
Couldn’t sleep. When I finally did I dreamed of my pal, Bob Redford. He showed up just when I needed him: I was supposed to catch a plane but discovered I’d forgotten the bag I have to carry Tulea in. I knew I wouldn’t be able to get her on without it. Bob devised a way to sneak her on and then snuck himself on as well. I remarked to myself how playful and happy he seemed and that made me happy.
…to creepy, Shirley MacLaine style, new age clap trap…
Eve also brought me a gift—it is a rock from the Moroccan desert that has been split open and when you look inside the two halves, you see a glistening, shimmering miracle of crystal and mica. “This is how we are when we are broken open,” she said. ‘We’ means we women, artists, warriors. It the perfect Eve gift—I will keep it on my dressing table. A constant reminder to allow myself to be broken open.
…to her embracing her inner “Hanoi Jane” by blogging about the current anti-Iraq war movement:
Joining us was Marlisa Grogan, Captain in the US Marine Corp (29 UES). I had never met her before and was very impressed. She has such a deep understanding of why it is important for us to support active duty members of the military who are anti war or, at least, anti a war they feel is wrong and ill-conceived. She herself has been involved in an anti war show that has performed for active duty personnel. She said that it is the soldiers who have seen active duty who tend to be anti war more than the ones who have stayed stateside. “They just don’t know,” she said. She talked about the similarities that exist between today’s military and those of the Vietnam era but also pointed out the profound differences, citing in particular, the fact that so many recruits are confronted with the choice between jail or military. For many it’s a much needed job.
Read that second sentence again. She almost tricked you, didn’t she? “It is important for us to support active duty members of the military…… WHO ARE ANTI WAR” I thought the lefties supported ALL the troops… but, according to Blogarella, it’s only the anti-war types that require our support! And, as usual, the anti-war crowd reveals their condescending attitude toward the military with statements like: “So many recruits are confronted with the choice between jail or military. For many it’s a much needed job.”
She also, unintentionally, reveals the results of her fine education at the Greenwich Academy:
Then we had another session with the music director before staging the scene where we all sing the Kyrie Eleison from Beethoven’s Mass in C….. ….I never realized that “Kyrie Eleison” is a plea to God to grant mercy.
Oh boy, this is going to be fun! And the show is only in tech rehearsals… Just wait until she gets closer to opening!
Fair warning to all you other Big Hollywood bloggers: Theatre is MY beat… back-off… she’s MINE.

“back-off… she’s MINE.”
Then let me say, on behalf of men everywhere, you can have her.
“She talked about the similarities that exist between today’s military and those of the Vietnam era but also pointed out the profound differences, citing in particular, the fact that so many recruits are confronted with the choice between jail or military. For many it’s a much needed job.”
I can’t find the words to express how I felt when I read the above quote.
Beyond anger…..
Well, I made the trip over to Jane’s blog and read her post that Rosie and Lily Tomlin are to be thanked for getting her blogging. I left this comment under that post:
Although Rosie and Lily may have influenced your decision to blog, I’d have to say that you really should thank the Troops of America’s military for insuring that you have the freedom to sit at your computer and express yourself.
For some reason, my comment didn’t seem to post – I’ll check back later to see if it’s there. mwahahaha
May I just say that Rosie is a disgrace to the name O’Donnell.
Choice between jail and the military?! The 60’s were REALLY good to her – Judges haven’t passed those types of sentences since the draft ended, and we became an all volunteer force in 1975. Way to lie, Hanoi Janie! I bet your father found it really hard to love you. At least your brother didn’t openly betray military personnel.
When the subject of a possible new “Barbarella” movie was discussed on another site a couple of weeks ago, the subject invariably shifted to a discussion of Jane Fonda. And since I’m a veteran, my Pavlovian response was to bring up the subject of Hanoi Jane, her alleged apology during the height of her fitness video craze, and how she’s spent the past 20 years qualifying and watering down said apology.
One of her leftist southern California supporters jumped in and proceeded to rant about what a martyred hero Hanoi Jane was and how she almost single-handedly was responsible for ending the war in Vietnam.
His argument was full of holes — including a timeline hole big enough to float a cruise ship through — so I had to respond. Here’s an excerpt:
“In other words, by the time Fonda made her self-aggrandizing trip to North Vietnam in July 1972, most U.S. troops were already gone, and U.S. involvement in South Vietnam had been winding down for several years. As a matter of fact, the last U.S. combat troops left South Vietnam less than a month after Fonda made her trip, and by November 1972, all that was left in country were 16,000 U.S. military advisors and administrators. The U.S. ended its air strikes a short time later, and by March 1973, the U.S. military withdrawal was complete.
Thus, Fonda clearly did not have a “huge” role in ending the war, as you claim. She basically had no role whatsoever in ending the war. All she did do was increase the misery level of U.S. POWs, embarrass her countrymen, and accuse everyone who disagreed with her of being either wrong or “liars.”
Her behavior was despicable, and she was clearly in the wrong.
Like it or not, Ed, it was Nixon, the evil Republican, who eventually undid Johnson’s enormous escalation of the war, and finally got us out of Vietnam.”
A little ammo for you Stage Right: I am not sure it is true for all branches but I know for a FACT that the Army cannot recruit or even talk to about joining anyone with pending criminal charges nor will they write a contract for anyone who made a deal with the court for charges to be dropped so they can join the Army. USAREC has regs about this and they are well enforced. I will get the exact regs to you tomorrow.
Jane Fonda needs to climb under a rock with the rest of the worms. Treasonous Wench!
I have recently saw Jane Fonda and she looked very old.
She has new teeth, but her breath was terrible.Someone should tell her that she has bad breath.
Wouldn’t the best way to support our troops be being anti-war? Certainly against pointless wars based on lies and started to benefit foreign countries and entities like the Carlyle Group. How many Americans have died by being electrocuted in the shower? The jobs to set those up are “outsourced” to “civilian” war profitters like Haliburton because it is more efficient to pay some aloof Haliburton stooge 6 figures to hook up a shower than have those actually using it hook it up (and will surely do it RIGHT.)
I’m guessing the statement about joining the military or going to jail might mean that those who join the military are the types that have virtually no chance in life anyway. Therefore, their only options are to join the military or turn to a life of crime and thus end up in jail.
Because, you know, people with such dim prospects in life can’t actually get a job, or go to college, or learn a trade in this hellhole called America…
That’s how I interpreted it, anyway.
Re: Jane’s comment, “…citing in particular, the fact that so many recruits are confronted with the choice between jail or military. For many it’s a much needed job…”
I have a nephew, the son of millionaire parents, who enlisted in 2002 and spent two tours in Iraq. He said that it was not uncommon for young men and women of wealthy families to choose military service. He said most recruits came from middle class backgrounds.
Jane is perpetuating a lazy, urban myth.
Looks like you’ve struck gold, friend. “Monster-in-Law” was such a good fit for her.
This c&@# gets my turrets going. I love how she gloms onto the little “out-of-a-job” girl who has her finger on the pulse of our military. I don’t blame her for not going over there! Can you say friendly fire?
God bless any one who has the courage, dedication and to not only stand tall for all the dumbasses freedoms, but to put themselves in harms way, for little money, and a horrible VA.
Would someone please send her to Iran, Iraq, et, al. I’ll buy the Burka.
Thank God for our Military, both past and present.
I meant to say American soldiers dying in showers in Iraq. Here is just one – family lied to and said it was “natural causes.”
http://armytimes.com/news/2009/02/ap_sailor_electrocuted_020309/
@Terry
485 people in the United States die to faulty electrical wiring each year. 3 US Military Members did in Iraq from faulty electrical wiring in how many years??
This coont is still alive?
There is no statute of limitations on treason.
Gag her, take her outside, and shoot to wound fatally before letting her expire.
She deserves far worse, but that is beyond our means to deliver.
Hopefully, where she goes, it will not be.
Jane – you are your own worst enemy.
Terry:
“I meant to say American soldiers dying in showers in Iraq. Here is just one – family lied to and said it was “natural causes.””
Which, in a war zone, is probably not THAT far from the truth.
So there is incompetent and possibly corrupt idiots wiring the showers. Sure, that is an indictment of the testing of tests to weed out those morons, but it still doesn’t change the point.
Great post, Stage Right. Please continue to verbally slap Hanoi Jane around as she is apparently trying to relive her glory days of Vietnam anti-war movements. Most veterans are against war, but realize it is required against those that would kill you even if you refused to fight them.
Terry: Love reading your posts; they add alot of humor to Big Hollywood. Maybe if Ron Paul is President one day, he will rid the world of the evil KBR(Haliburton).
[...] Check out the results… [...]
Terry,
I am an active duty US Army officer and the only one here who is full of lies is YOU and the left. I spent much of 2007 in Iraq fighting a JUST and NECESSARY war and am now in Afhganistan fighting another front of that JUST and NECESSARY war. I work with these so-called ‘war-profiteers’ you belittle. Would you like to repeat any other planks of National Socialism while you are at it? I have seen your lie-filled leftist talking point posts and you are lost beyond belief.
You want “war profiteers”, look at those nations who supplied Iraq in the 1990s. Look at the French ATGMs (guided anti-tank missles), Durandel bombs, Russian jet engines, advanced Russian jets, thousands of tanks (Saddam only had 300 after the Gulf War, yet had rebuilt by the mid 90s). All of this stuff was new. And then we have admission after admission by Iraqis and other evidence that the NBC weapons were mostly shipped out of Iraq during our 18 moth “rush to war”. Iraq violated every aspect of the GW CEASE FIRE (not peace treaty) except outright attacking Kuwait. He was in material breach of the sanctions and of the cease fire. He activly supported terrorists and trained them at Salmon Pak and at the Ansar al Islam camp. But then, I am talking to a wall. I have come to realize that even as I blog right from the middle of the war.
But then the rest of the national socialist dictator wannabes on the left are just as brainwashed and full of “two minutes hate” as they repeat the darkest chapters of history.
No one wants war, least of all the US Soldier/Marine. However, surrender is far worse and surrender/appeasment/self-destruction/’dhimmitude’ is exactly what the left wants. I have seen the Islamofascist enemy up close and they are nothing but a disgusting group of brutal, enslaving thugs who must be stopped NOW or we face them in our streets soon. These are Fonda’s friends. They are Moore’s “minutemen”. They are nothing but abominations to humanity that must be stopped. But nooo.. to the left the only enemies are conservatives who must be watched and silenced. Brutally if need be.
I deployed shortly after the elections and have seen the replay of leftist rise to power in the 1930s complete with cult-like worship, anti-semitism, class warfare, and hate/fearmongering. I fear I will return home to the left acting out all the garbage they projected onto President Bush. On the good side, a taste of real national socialism under the left’s rule might wake up the RNC and have them actually run a conservative for the first time since 1979. That is, if we survive the lefts push to absolute, unquestioned power. I fear for the safety and security of my wife and 3 kids 4 and under as the left insainly drives for absolute power over and unquestioning obediance of the People.
“She has such a deep understanding of why it is important for us to support active duty members of the military who are anti war or, at least, anti a war they feel is wrong and ill-conceived.”
As for the troops doing their job, screw them. They’re idiots who are going to jail.
@James S
THANK YOU and all with you for your service!!! I’m humbled to protected by great men and women like yourselves.
Terry
Such hate.. so sad.
Angelia
Don’t cry for Terry. From the composition of his/her post (really just mashed together bits of stale leftist talking points), I’m pretty sure he/she is some kind of artificial intelligence PostBot using this blog as an exercise in self-tuning.
It was the Haliburton line that tipped me off.
Open the pod bay doors Terry, open the pod bay doors.
No better way to get good reviews than to start trashing the military again. I say Jane is prime to play Norma Desmond in a remake of Hollywood Blvd.
Another diseased mind from the 60s gets another undeserved 15 minutes of fame. It reminds me of one of the few things McCain said during the debates that I enjoyed: “Ayers isn’t the point. Who cares about a washed up old terrorist anyway.”
James,
I remember the Iraqis getting the cooked “presents” from AQ in Iraq. I also remember the two chloine gas bombs that AQ unleashed in early 2007. Stay safe brother. Kandahar is cool but dusty today. The rains stopped which means the poo-pond is ripe again. The bad part is that when the weather is ‘nice’, the Taliban grab another bunch of women and kids to hide behind as they shoot at us.
Terry, you are a hateful, lie-spewing person. All those things you called lies, like the cooked kids, are real!!!! I know Iraqis who received their kids cooked on a platter. The acid baths, priting presses, and other Saddam/Uday atrocities were REAL! WE, us ‘evil’ US military types STOPPED them. It was even more disgusting than your continued play out of the planks of national socialism. Yet you did answer that question I put out at least. “Mushroom” caught you on your own bigotry and lies too.
NO, the Israelis are not the agressors. The Philistines (so-called Palistinians) who attack Isreal day after day and violate treaty after treaty are thugs, not Isael. The true enemy IS the Islamofascists. We have ALWAYS been a target of their “jihad” even from our independence. There is a reason we formed a stadning Navy and Marine Corps along with an Army. That “shores of Tripoli” thing came from the Mujahdin (which we erroniously call “the Barbary Pirates”) who tried to regain control of the Med forced us to defend ourselves.
Hey, why not spout more national-socialist idiocy and blame Charles Martel for all the woes of the world? You have already blamed the “evil Jooo” boogyman and us “evil” conservatives who want less government and more personal responsibility. How dare we actually go out and give people a chance to live free from national socialism (the Ba’ath Party was the “Pan-Arab National Socialist Ba’ath Party”).
But you are beyond belief with your lies and spoon fed leftist tripe.
James,
It will be nice when the PX reopens. I hate generator maintenance weeks. Or is it maintence months? Not sure about the new DFAC right next to my area. I am not a big fan of “Far East’s” food. “Supreme” is not the name I would have chosen for that company. Nice T-walls/Alaska barriers they have, though I really wish they would do something about the parking! It blocks the side entrance to unit that supports me. Luckily my MRAPs can get out the other way by the washrack.
Yes, the garbage is insane (and I do not mean the poo-pond). All this “Bush took away rights” crap “illegal wars” and other lies. WHAT rights were taken away?? Echelon was closed down under Bush and instead of reading everyone’s email (tried in the late 90s and the NYTs gushed all over it in a 2000 OP-ED), we now only intercept foriegn communications and communications coming INTO the US. No warrant was ever needed to intercept FORIEGN communications. Our European allies use this method, as does every other country. ANSWER/ACT/Move-on/WWP still can have all their stupid, violent protests calling us “babykillers” (I never performed an abortion in my life) and saying they “support the troops when they shoot their officers” or “I will destroy my country for free” or anything else that zombietime and others have recorded. Code Pink can send $600k plus to AQ and disrupt Congress. Nothing happened to them. No loss of freedom there. Leftists can attack RNC delegates at the RNC convention and nothing is even reported on the news about them. But let a conservative or libertarian question the new President and all Hell breaks loose (ask Joe the Plumber). Quite a police state of unquestioned obediance and absolute power the left is creating.
Every time I ask for lists of rights the “evil” Bush trampled on, no one can give me any truthful answers. All I get are the regurgitated lies of the left and “twoofers”.
Get her good, Stage Right!! Get. Her. Every. Day. Her performances in Viet Nam were her best, as they were the only believable ones.
And, Terry?? Bless your heart.
“Actually, shouldn’t Bloomberg have been arrested when he got back from Israel? Look up the Logan Act. I guess he needed to accept some classified instructions from them that couldn’t just be faxed like normal.”
Yeah, sure, Terry, you bring up Bloomberg visiting Israel, in order to counter the opinion that Jane Fonda shoud have been arrested for having visited North Vietnam when the United States was at war with that country, had pictures taken of her with the North Vietnamese and went to the POW camps, trying to convince the prisoners to submit to their captors.
Terry, your moral equivalency must know no end.
As a VN vet 65-68, seeing the tape of Hanoi Jane sitting on that anti-aircraft gun,I wished we had smart bombs back then.
“We have no parties in the US other than two branches of the Zionist party just to give the appearance that we have a choice. I can’t name a politician that put American interests above all when it came to Israel. Nor can I name one whose administration wasn’t chock-full of Zionist kooks.”
Sure, and I just saw a pig fly a minute ago. What’s next, your endorsement of David Duke’s 10 Steps To Win Back America?
Possibly the dumbest woman to set foot on earth.
Jane Fonda has a blog?????? I thought she died.
Terry -
You wrote: “War doesn’t create freedom, it spread (sic) misery, enslavement, and tyranny. EVERY time.” If a more moronic statement has been posted here, I can’t remember reading it. War is the ONLY way to create freedom, you idiot! It’s what created OURS and it’s the reason blacks in America are no longer slaves and the Europeans are free to pursue the destructive socialism that’s made their respective economies basket cases. It’s also the reason the Iraqis are free to CHOOSE who their leaders are and it’s the reason that Afghani women are now free to go to school and hold down jobs to help earn money to support their families. What a MORON you must be.
“David Duke did more to prevent a terrorist attack than Bush and unlike Bush’s efforts, it didn’t cost the tax payers a dime. He went to Iran and other places in the Middle East and let them know we are not all behind Israel’s manipulation of the US to fight wars for them.”
Sure, we fought in Korea, Vietnam, Granada, Iraq, Afghanistan and again in Iraq because Israel manipulated us. Good grief, and I thought Ron Paul was nuts when it came to Israel.
So David Duke did more to prevent another terrorist attack on American soil than George W. Bush by going to Iran, huh? Gee, I had no idea all it took to prevent terrorist attacks on US soil was to just go to Ahmadinejad, kiss his butt and let him know there are other butt kissers in America. Swell, now we can finally achieve that “peace in our time” we have so craved!

Your hate and disprespect towards James S. is reprehensible! I would love to drop you off in the middle of a village full of Taliban and let them have their fun with you!!! If anyone deserves it it’s you and that American hating traitor Hanoi Jane. If you lived in Iran, Syria, Lebannon, or Iraq (when Saddam was in power) they would have your head for the things you’ve written on this blog. You should thank ALL those serving for giving you the freedom to write such hateful, disrespectful and shameful things to James and anyone else who serves this great country of ours. Of course we expect nothing less from the left….hate towards anyone who disagrees with them is a way of life.
BTW-It appears that Jane had most of her money invested with Bernie Madoff.
Is that God speaking or what????
I love it when Libs actually have to go to work.
GiveMeLiberty – February 5th, 2009 at 8:33 am
“Your hate and disprespect towards James S. is reprehensible! I would love to drop you off in the middle of a village full of Taliban and let them have their fun with you!!!”
Was there danger of the Taliban taking over the US?
Wouldn’t it serve US interests to stop a massive invasion across the Mexico border? Wouldn’t it serve our security if….after being ATTACKED BY IMMIGRANTS….they stopped or severely curtailed immigration in all forms.
No, you people are clearly duped. I don’t know how you people GET that stupid.
“If you lived in Iran, Syria, Lebannon, or Iraq (when Saddam was in power) they would have your head for the things you’ve written on this blog.”
I don’t accuse those countries of being occupied by Zionists. That seems to be the litmus test. Israel uses our govnerment and media to paint a picture of countries they don’t control (yet) and boogeymen countries.
Have you been to Iran or Syria? Iraq had a thriving middle class and a secular government (before our first attack on their country). You are the bigot here.
“You should thank ALL those serving for giving you the freedom….”
They are serving a rogue and unconstitutional government. You are a boot-licker of fascism. We have fewer freedoms all the time. The military is being trained to fight against Americans. The waters are being tested all the time. Gun confiscations in New Orleans. “Checkpoints” Northcom. If you cared about freedom, you would have to pull your head out first.
“…to write such hateful, disrespectful and shameful things to James and anyone else who serves this great country of ours.”
You are just goofy. They serve government. The police serve government. They have NO LEGAL OBLIGATION to protect you. That has been the decision of many court cases. You have a lot to learn. But I was once every bit as much naive as you were once, so there is hope.
Terry -
Since you hate your country so much, PLEASE LEAVE!!! You won’t be missed.
Richard C. wrote: “BTW-It appears that Jane had most of her money invested with Bernie Madoff.”
Ouch! Maybe that’s why she’s going back to work on Broadway — she needs the extra dough.
Just a short note to JAMES S. and ChrisG I would love to take a moment of your time to Thank you for your dedication to freedom…. My 13 year old daughter and myself honor you and your fighting brothers for the sacrifices you and your loved ones make EVERYDAY…..
P.S. Terry you are just an A**hole…. Hey I got an Idea why don’t you get in your “Smart Car” and drive off a Malibu cliff!!!!!!!! Jerk
Ditto on the kudos for our servicemen. We simply rely on you, pure and simple.
“How was he “nuts”? Daring to put America’s interests above the foreign country of Israel. Do you really think Israel gives a d*mn about America? You guys are so brainwashed it is pathetic. I guess that is what you get from listening to Israeli-run media in the US.
The wars in Iraq were without a doubt for Israel.”
More like not putting America’s interests high enough, Terry. Ron Paul fails to understand that America’s interests aren’t exclusive to within our borders.
It doesn’t matter whether Israel actually gives a d*mn about America. Israel has the right to be where they are and deserve our support. And when will you get off that crap about “Israeli-run media”? Do you really think the media is in the pockets of the Zionists? YOU are so brainwashed it is pathetic. By the way, you sure the wars in Iraq were for Israel, and not for oil?
“Yeah. He actually did more to win “hearts and minds.” Rather than just SAYING it, he did it. Now, are you gonna argue with Bush’s policy as stated. Kinda painted yourself into a corner, haven’t you????”
How exactly have I painted myself into a corner? What “hearts and minds” do you really think David Duke did more to win, because it certainly wasn’t Americans. And what can I say about Bush’s policy (can’t you be specific on it?)? Unfortunately, when it came to Israel, Bush was guilty of pressuring Israel into extending the olive branch when we should’ve just passed the ammunition.
In any case, you didn’t refute my point. Kissing Iran’s butt simply tells them we’re willing to submit our freedom and our liberty to a bunch of theocratic dictators. Is that what you want or are you still burying your head in the ground?
Indeed, to all you serving in uniform, thanks for your service. I can never thank you guys enough for what you do.
I am absolutely certain that Janie will soon lead protests against the Vietnamese government for the killings and brutalities inflicted on their population after the war ended. And she will soon thank Pres. Bush for ending the oppressive anti-woman Taliban regime in Afghanistan in 2001. Failure to do so would make her a hypocrite and a monster
I also thank JamesS, ChrisG and all those who serve and protect. As the mother of a former Marine I couldn’t be more proud of all that you do. The Obamabots have only one mantra…to hate everything American. We can’t get rid of them but we sure can ignore them. Semper Fi
My son is 21, and just graduated from Marine Boot Camp. I was in San Diego at MCRD for his graduation where I witnessed 499 young men become Marines. These men come from amazing families, and are amazing men themselves. How dare she say this. She does not know–once again she proves that most Liberals are ignorant to the truth. My son is very smart and had the world at his feet after graduating from high school. We had saved enough for his college education, but after a couple of years of studying engineering at Arizona State University, he decided to serve his country instead. We are not poor, nor are we rich. We are proud of our son, and his choice to serve our country. Semper Fi! Most of his Marine friends have similar stories. Jane Fonda you are wrong.
So, she didn’t know what ‘Kyrie Elyeson’ meant, and used ’snuck’. Wow, I am awed by her intelligence. Greenwich Academy education indeed.
Terry-
You’re the one being manipulated; when has pandering to Iran or Syria or Saddam’s Iraq ever worked? Read Nonie Darwish’s book; she has interesting insight into the psyche of the Arab street and how giving in is perceived as weak. There’s a macho strain running through Arab culture and a lot of Islam is about perception; whether or not there is a perception that you have been dishonoured for instance (see honour killings), have lost face, been shamed. Perhaps you’re not aware that bin Laden perceived our lack of deliberate action vis a vis the Cole, pulling out of Somalia, etc., as weakness, which he took as a signal to strike.
I’m afraid Terry, you’re the one who has pulled the wool over your own eyes and painted the world with the same colour brush. Is Israel faking the world out on Iran seeking the Bomb? Did they fabricate the video that MEMRI posted a few years ago of dancers twirling with HEU and presenting it to the Iranian leaders, in what looked like a religious ritual? Did they make up the Palestinian TV shows (partly funded with US aid dollars), that talk about martyrdom and have little kids reciting poems about death? Did Israel fake bills of lading for highly machined components needed to purify HEU, which is ONLY needed for nuclear weapons? (Reactors don’t need uranium purified to such standards). Did Israel Photoshop pictures from a completely benign conference into something that resembled a meeting about the world post the US and Israel?
I’m not saying Israel is perfect; they’re too socialist for me in many ways, and they’re run by fallible humans, so yes, they’re not perfect. America likewise, periodically missteps. But the carte blanche you are willing to grant countries that have subjugated, punished and tortured their own people… countries that are continually promising that Israel can no longer exist, that America is the great Satan and needs to be taken down… it’s really stunning.
Terry likes to pose as a pacifist, but as George Orwell observed over 60 years ago, Terry is objectively pro-fascist.
“So many recruits are confronted with the choice between jail or military. For many it’s a much needed job.”
These days, she is factually correct about that (mostly). Although many “Grand Torino” Eastwood-types in their 70s or later are hitting the roof over that comment of hers, the sad truth is that the average recruit today is a community college dropout at best or a black gang member at worst. As Jack said in “A Few Good Men”: “You can’t handle the truth.”
They are over there killing civilians to make room for the next dictator. The only beneficiary is Israel, who doesn’t appreciate it in the least. The Jews and oil men who gin up these overseas adventures have genuine contempt for young Americans – we are just cannon fodder to them, to be used for the benefit of God’s Chosen and the Almighty Peso.
Hey – how about a US military that defends the US? Wouldn’t that be a better, more respectful use of our recruits? Nah, they should just keep dying to defend other peoples who would just as soon spit on them as thank them.
The Almighty Turtle wrote:
“There is no statute of limitations on treason. Gag her, take her outside, and shoot to wound fatally before letting her expire.”
Publicly calling for the death of a specific person is a real crime. If you had balls, you would give us your real name and dare the authorities to arrest you. You won’t. (PS: Jane did.)
Let me get this straight, DR, Jane Fonda has balls because she openly committed treason and dared the authorities to come after her? Ridiculous. It wouldn’t matter if you used Benedict Arnold, the Rosenbergs or Aldrich Ames in your comparisons to The Almighty Turtle, it doesn’t take balls to commit treason.
“Wouldn’t a fascist be pro-government?”
Anybody who is a statist is pro-government, Terry. In your case, you’re no better because your stances would help pave the way for any kind of statism to take over.

“Anybody who is a statist is pro-government, Terry. In your case, you’re no better because your stances would help pave the way for any kind of statism to take over.”
By opposing it? What do you suggest?
Simple, Terry. Support other democracies in the world, diligently defend our national interests wherever they are, not take an isolationist approach to foreign policy, and very importantly, not subscribe to insane notions of Zionist conspiracies. That kind of idiotic thinking is something Nazis, fundamental Muslims, Communists and others believe; in other words, statists, not those who treasure liberty.
And above all, recognize that government is a necessary evil. Anarchy does nothing but create voids which allow the ideals we hold dear to be swallowed up by whatever kind of statism there is.
Hey Terry-
Since it doesn’t sound like you’ll be joining the Taliban anytime soon (what’s the matter, the thought of them cutting your head off while you’re still alive doesn’t appeal to you???!!) why not offer to house all those “poor terrorists” at Gitmo. I’m sure they’d LOVE to meet you! Sounds like you all would be a perfect fit.
Insofar as Terry’s last sentence is concerned, I’m inclined to agree with him…which may be a first. This government does NOT adhere to the Constitution–by any stretch of the imagination–and hasn’t for a few decades now. (Mostly since FDR took control.) But it was LIBERALS who did this to us (mostly) and Terry is dead wrong that we are being manipulated by some sort of “Zionist conspiracy.” Our interest in the Middle East is almost entirely in our own self-interest–that of keeping the flow of oil going at market prices. That was threatened by Saddam and IS threatened by the Mullahs and the Islamic fundamentalists and THAT’S why we’ve enforced our will on Iraq and are on the verge of doing the same thing to Iran. We’re in Afghanistan in an effort to catch the leaders of Al Qaeda, who were given safe-haven there by the Taliban because THEY attacked us! It’s also in our best interests to replace the Taliban with a democracy, if at all possible. (Or a “republic,” if you insist…just as we’ve done in Iraq.)
“Bush opposed democracy on at least 3 separage occassions. Taiwan, Pakistan and Gaza.
Anyway, democracies are just mob rule. Let’s support republics.”
Pakistan’s democracy is in such a situation that it probably won’t be too long before it becomes an tyranny like Afghanistan used to be. Gaza has never been a democracy, and with Hamas in control, it will not become one anytime soon. When did George Bush oppose democracy in Taiwan? He supported Taiwan, so you’ll need to come up with something better than that. Democracies can be more than just mob rule, o ye of little faith, and you have to be specific of republics to support (i.e. support constitutional republics, oppose socialist republics).
That would be great. Abandon the Israeli backstabbers who do nothing for us. Befriend the oil producing countries.
“BTW, did you know that the US’s policy is to PROVIDE OIL to Israel EVEN IF it means hardships on Americans? Did you know that? How does that fit in with our “national interests”?”
What you call backstabbers, I call allies. Abandon them, and you abandon a fellow democracy. Won’t matter to you, I know, because you think democracies are just mob rule. Which oil producing countries do you propose supporting? Saudi Arabia? Venezuela? Are these nations democracies? BTW, you don’t need to surprise me by informing me of how we support Israel, because any support we give them is something I gladly endorse.
“What does that mean? Do you want other countries coming here and telling us what to do?”
We used to be isolationist during the time between the World Wars, not getting involved in the affairs of other nations and believing we would be left alone. In the end, high tariffs and two oceans couldn’t protect us. Simply leaving the Middle East, Asia and even Europe alone isn’t going to solve our problems, nor will it ensure our security, especially with the threat of terrorism. Isolationism is simply our telling the world we’ll leave them alone if they’ll do the same, and it is naive to believe in this day and age such a thing will happen.
“So long as we are free to discuss sane Zionist conspiracies. They hate the exposure.”
You’re free to discuss anything sane or insane you want, but it doesn’t change my previous point; you have more in common with Nazis, Islamists and other statists on this subject than with any genuine republican.
“THIS government no longer adheres to the Constitution. The also has to come a time when you decide the government no longer is legal.”
Then you work to MAKE our government adhere to the Constitution. Voting those who don’t abide by the Constitution out of office, campaign for or against the bills Congress votes on, let your representatives know where you stand, let the President know where you stand, spread the word. How about doing that kind of stuff instead of just deciding the government is illegal?
Papadave said..“We’re in Afghanistan in an effort to catch the leaders of Al Qaeda, who were given safe-haven there by the Taliban because THEY attacked us! It’s also in our best interests to replace the Taliban with a democracy, if at all possible. (Or a “republic,” if you insist…just as we’ve done in Iraq.)”
Terry said…Why would it be in our interests to give people who we describe as stupid and uneducated AND supposedly want to destroy us power to control the government? It doesn’t add up.
Terry you’re so busy ranting and raving about how awful our military is, our country is, How great life in Iraq was before we liberated it, blah, blah, blah, that you aren’t understanding the need to “replace the Taliban with a democracy???”
From what I’ve heard from you today the only one stupid and uneducated seems to be YOU!!
“She said that it is the soldiers who have seen active duty who tend to be anti war more than the ones who have stayed stateside. “They just don’t know,” she said. She talked about the similarities that exist between today’s military and those of the Vietnam era but also pointed out the profound differences, citing in particular, the fact that so many recruits are confronted with the choice between jail or military. For many it’s a much needed job.”
THEY just don’t know? WTF? I think it is completely ridiculous to join the military during peacetime (I know we are not, read on) and not consider things could change. I think it is stupid to join the military during wartime and think you won’t be sent to Iraq-istan. I joined while we were at and peace and I knew that could change (and it did during my first enlistment). I reenlisted and I’m going to reenlist again. People want to be anti-war, fine. That’s their right. I just wish they would remember who is fighting to ensure they continue to have that right they so disgustingly flaunt in our faces. Why don’t people understand that they don’t have to support the war to support the troops? Regardless of whether we believe what we’re doing is right or wrong, we all still deserve to be supported. We’re the ones in the trenches, not them. I think people like Fonda are putrid. Instead of thinking about what I would possibly say to her or other stupid humans like her, I prefer to concentrate my energy on wrenching on my good ol’ American, ozone-depleting, near-deafening open exhaust beast of a diesel truck…

There’s nothing sadder than an old hippie
Yes there is, a whole generation of them.
“Hamas won the election. It is childish to say something is wrong with that and claim you support democracy.”
Some election. It promised democracy as much as an election in Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.
“Bush OPPOSED Taiwan’s entry to the UN. He is that much of a tool to COMMUNIST China!”
Some tool. He maintained military support for Taiwan, but was just a tool. Good grief!
“We would have been if we had done what you say. FDR (a communist for all practical purposes) was determined to bring us in to the war on the side of his fellow travelers.”
You don’t know history, that I can now tell. If only FDR hadn’t brought us into World War II, there’s just no way Hitler or the Japanese would’ve gone to war with us? Where did you learn your history from, Howard Zinn?
“Our involvment QUARANTEES we won’t be left alone. We are shoveling money in a furnace with all this involvement in other countries. This benefits the bankers and the war profiteer types. And as it crashes our economy and the WORLD bankers buy up even more assets in America for pennies on the dollar, you will see what I predict to be true. If we left other countries alone and tended to our own affairs not only would individual quality of life rebound but we would become so advanced we would have no worries about other countries. As it is now, the opposite is happening. You lose both prosperity and security with “interventionism.””
Wrong, our inaction in the face of terrorist activity guaranteed we wouldn’t have been left alone. In this fight, it isn’t a matter of countries to be worried about, but organizations and individuals set upon killing as many as they can in their twisted holy war against all the West stands for. Naturally, I don’t expect you to understand.
“Actually, it is all mainstream Republican stuff. Go back to Reagan before he was shot. He spoke about ending the Fed. Hmmmm, JFK tried to end the Fed and he was shot, too.”
Mainstream Republican stuff my ass. I’m surprised this story of yours didn’t end up in Oliver Stone’s final cut of JFK.
“I guess you don’t pay attention. Look at the recent Presidential election. Two candidates were chosen for us that have not the slightest concern about the Constitution. EVEN IF the elections are real, you still have no choice.”
Bullcrap. We had a choice, but you fail to see the differences between McCain and Obama.
“Take TARP. Calls were 9 to 1 against, they passed it anyway. Take Nafta. Calls were MANY TIMES higher against. They passed it anyway. No one is listening to the American people. They don’t need to.”
So what? Does that mean we should give up because TARP and NAFTA passed anyway, o ye of little faith? If you don’t think your representatives are listening to you, then don’t bother, if you have no faith in your abilities as a concerned citizen.
By the way, when I wrote “genuine republican”, I meant just that; one who supports the idea of a republic, not a member of the Republican Party. Just so you won’t look like an idiot.
Jane is here cuz of her dad and only because of her dad – everything she has done has been bought and paid for by Henry Fonda
And thank God, that when I see her name, I always and only think of Hank Fonda with the warmest regards and longing – Henry Fonda is the one and only Fonda – just as President Ron Reagan is the one and only Ron Reagan.
Barbarella who?
Although, as Jimmy Stewart once related, Hank was proud of his kids, but Henry is turning in his grave, nonetheless.
