Welcome to the information vs immersion divide. We have those processing for information, looking for concepts, themes, believable characters, things that make sense, who are happy watching video on a plain ordinary TV or computer monitor. Supposedly people watch movies on iPhones, the content means more than the visuals.

Then comes immersion. IMAX 3D, home theater with a wall covering display and 22 speakers. Whatever it is matters less than what it does, transporting you from your ordinary, possibly dull and depressing, life, into something exciting and different. Thus we get such differing reviews on the same site, the immersion is grand while the information is lacking.

The Romans understood spectacle, the short break from monotonous reality whose demand fuels temporary havens from movies to drugs, and elevates the suppliers' standing to being wanted and even needed. Apparently a certain political candidate, who was mocked for Roman columns at his nomination, understands it too. Time to wonder how long can people enjoy the image of a steak, before demanding the taste of red meat. With media informing us how great it is to go vegan. *sigh*

It's obviously not "ridiculous" at all - you paid it once and are going to pay it again. You must feel that you got sufficient utility out of that first $17 purchase. I don't know why you're complaining...

A mite off topic but I thought this classic should get an honorable mention:

I remember the 3D era of the mid '50s quite well.

My favorite is "House of Wax" (1953) with Vincent Price, Frank Lovejoy, Charles Bronson (Igor) and I can't remember the femme fetale's name (Phyllis Kirk?) for sure. The melting and falling out of the screen statues were especially scary to the 12/13 year old I was then.

Thanks for your attention. I now return you to the subject at hand.

Just saying though, how ridiculous is $17 for a movie ticket?! Seriously! Man I paid $15 for "The Dark Knight" last year (including the $2 Fandango upcharge) and I thought that was a bit much (granted I paid 6 times to see that movie in theaters because I love it so much, but still).

Again I'm complaining, but I'm certainly going to pay that much to see it, because I'm a sucker for IMAX films, 3D films and monster movies.

Or maybe I'll just see "Knowing" instead. Sounds like sweet sweet hangin', totes magotes.

Good news for "Monsters vs. Aliens" but I think the number might be higher when all's said and done- should at least match the number for Madagascar 2 I think.

I do want to see it, but what the f***: $17 dollars for a damned movie ticket? Seriously, the movie's like 90 min. long, what the hell???

I'll just go see "Knowing" instead for some sweet, sweet hanging, totes magotes.
