I know that their box office will not be as high as it should be. I will likely wind up seeing it with at least one but probably two kids. We will buy a ticket for whatever kid friendly flick is playing at about the same time and theater jump. I already own about 12 pairs of the glasses and they won't sell you a ticket to the movie without charging for the glasses. I'm not buying any more glasses.

Playdates are theaters, they are counted into the per-theaters-average. Screens can never be fewer than playdates since you have at least 1 screen for each playdate. You see, multiplex theaters have more than one screen (not like in the old days when every theaters had just one screen).

It's not hard to understand at all. Steve should not change anything, everything is fine the way it is now.

It says something about actors and movies when people would prefer to watch computer-generated characters and cartoons over the real thing.

I agree. Steve, please take a step back and clarify all these things. There is also a per theater average $ or something, which is really per screen? Which numbers get plugged into that calculation.

This site is getting away from movies and focusing on the arcane nuts and bolts. Maybe we need a glossary page

Okay, Steve (or anyone else), help me out here. Please explain playdates versus screens. I get that there can be more playdates than screens, and screens seems a straight forward count, but is playdates the number of theaters, or something else?

Also, you mentioned the length. A few weeks ago I was choosing between seeing Taken and Watchmen and noticed that Taken was showing five times on one screen at my local theater while Watchmen was showing six times on two screens (three times per screen) due to its length. So how is that factored into BO estimates and expectations?
