I remember seeing a picture of this historic meeting. In it, it is obvious by the look of Elvis’ eyes that he was stoned out of his mind.

I recall reading somewhere that Elvis actually presented a gun to Nixon as a gift. Does anyone know if this is true?

True. The M1911A1 .45 Elvis presented to Nixon is on display at the Nixon Library. A very nice piece with some intricate engraving work.

The movie, Elvis Meets Nixon, is great. Its portrayal of the out of touch Elvis who has been so long sheltered by the Memphis Mafia is hilarious.

Yay. So the drug addict rockstar waltzed into the Whitehouse and was made a national narcotics officer? What a proud and noble history we have! Especially when this narcotics officer died with his pants around his ankles of a drug overdose!
