One Iraq War Vet Declares War On Hollywood
by Sgt. WelshPlease go to this link first – click here – to understand what I’m about to rant about and why I’m so pissed.
Almost 90% of Americans believe the war in Iraq is and was a waste. The Hollywood media feeds the public wasteful, depressing, and horribly fabricated stories. When did the U.S. military become the bad-guys? We are stereotyped “Generation Kill.” I guess that is all we do. All we do is go to Iraq, hunt innocents and slaughter them. I guess that is what I did for eight months while I was there.
I guess I really didn’t save Iraqi families from being tortured by foreign jihadis. I didn’t set up the first ever Iraqi elections. Or see my brothers blown up, shot, maimed, and killed. Getting attacked from Mosques and hospitals–and you know what? We just took it, day after day we took it and we kept going. An IED blowing up underneath me each day. We couldn’t fight back; we were ordered not to. No matter how much vengeful, pent up aggression I felt, or how much I wanted to kill, I didn’t act on it. We have a code, Rules of Engagement. “RULES,” rules that are followed.
But according to then Senator and now President Obama, all I did was air-raid villages and kill innocent civilians. This is a video I will never forget:
People like Pat Dollard and Micheal Yon tell the true stories.
Please watch these clips and tell me if you buy into what is portrayed. Honestly, tell me what you believe.
HBO’s rendition–was this the way it went down according to Evan Wright’s book? Or is it HBO fantasy?
Or how about this from “In the Valley of Elah.” In the start of the movie, he fixes the flag.
<!–[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <![endif]–><!–[if gte mso 9]> <![endif]–> At the end of the movie, it portrays the soldiers doing horrible things (nothing good in Iraq–the entire film), it gives Tommy Lee Jones’ character the right to flip the flag at the end (the so called “international distress signal…come save our ass”). Theme of movie—Iraq is unpatriotic and helpless. To me it means what we did over there is… unpatriotic.
And last my personal favorite, Brain De Palma’s rendition “Redacted.” THIS SHIT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN OVER THERE. IT IS COMPLETE fabricated bullshit. A bunch of soldiers standing around with no security. Nothing in this clip would ever happen. A wannabe gangster Sergeant talking about his three tours…? Yea right. And a PVT allowed to act that dumb? Ridiculous.
Thank you so much American media, special thanks to Hollywood. Our entire sacrifice was a complete waste. My friends died for nothing. We are exploited and lies are told. The truth is never reported. The good outweighs the bad. But you will never see it.
Yours truly,
I guess this is just a bunch of lies too:

What most people DON'T understand is that majority of the Iraqi people did not like us being there, but not because we were killing them, but because it brought in jihadists from around the world. (Uk, France, Chenchyna, China, the rest of the Middle East, and everywhere in between)I was there during the surge on the edge the western Al Anbar province. We lost 2 Marines to a sniper who was a part of an Al Qaeda cell. A cell who stayed anonymous by torturing and killing Iraqis. Arabs and especially Iraqis respond very well to fear and intimidation. Al Qaeda knew this and exploited it. I remember one specific video was found of this cell cutting off the fingers of several child because their father TALKED to a Marine patrol for "too long". The United States military supresses A LOT of the bad things that happen in Iraq, only embedded journalists or troops can bring back these stories 2nd hand and for some it just too much to talk about. All it takes is one reporter with a alterior motive to find a story, and there is always a story somewhere. For instance, I am sure I could find people who would support a story on how Obama's election was rigged by aliens or a controled event by the Illuminati; it doesn't mean it is true. Most of you watched Iraq through a very tiny peep hole and saw what they wanted you too see, and like the Iraqis, you too where exploited.

CCFK
You seem like the type of person who would attack a Vietnam veteran, and then 20 years later you will be horrified that they have psychological issues from the way they were treated at home.
“I would rate your outrage as a fail”.
I would rate you as a disgrace.
Sgt. Welsh: Believe me, there are a lot of us out here in flyover country who do appreciate your sacrifice and the difficulty of your mission. Don’t ever believe otherwise. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
CCFK, obviously you are misinformed. Obama DID say that about Iraq…. it was a pretty big deal during the campaign. Why don’t you ask your congressman if you can take a trip over there? You know, to see first hand how it is. Or, are you one of those freaks who idolize Hollywood and collect autographs? Is that why you voted for Obama… because he’s a celebrity?
I am steeling myself for the upcoming Magical Mystery Tour of Obama apologizing to the Muslim world for everything the US has ever done. I fully expect them to laugh at him and reciprocate with more terror. He telegraphs his weakness just like Jimmah Carter. They are going to roll him too. Lord help us and all of our military.
CCfk, who the hell are you, to make comment’s about a subject you would never have the balls to experience yourself. Were you next to Michael Yon or Sgt Welsh. If Not STFU and Thank the people that actually protect you, instead of drooling over the people that want to kill you
I have worked with many soldiers who were in Iraq and Afghanistan so I know what the true stories are. I also hear the stories from their wives and families. What Hollywood puts out about this war is drivel and I am happy to note that the majority of these movies fail at the box office.
Thank you for your service. Know that many, many Americans value you.
Sir, please, please believe there are millions of us who are grateful for the sacrifices you and the others in the military have nade and for the good you have done. Please ignore CCFK’s asinine comments as the utterings of an ill-informed, leftist, moronic dolt. I do understand how you feel, though. The other day I thought to myself that I’d bet Saddam is probably somewhere in hell, laughing at the way President Bush was treated by people cut from the same cloth as CCFK. Again, thank you for continuing to serve our country and to protect us, even with America’s first Affirmative Action president at the helm. God bless you, and try to remember some of us appreciate that you have done more for us than we’ll probably ever know.
Dear Sgt. Welsh,
God's blessings and our thanks to you and your fellow Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen and Marines for your heroic service to our country and for liberating and defending the innocent and defenseless people of Iraq.
Thank you for fighting and defeating America's evil enemies.
Your disgust at the anti-American cowards' anger-displacement against our Military is more than justified. I trust you'll not waste more time on their self-loathing insanities.
I appreciate and share your scorn of irresponsibile movie-makers. Take comfort in the fact that their narcissistic movies were box-office duds for good reason: America rejected them.
Obama's phenomenon is already fizzling. Events are overtaking him much faster than his acolytes ever fantasized.
As for America's victory in Iraq — History will, I think, be very good to those such as yourself that kept the faith, while keeping up the fight. Bless you!
I'd love to see Matt Damon challenge you to a debate.
Take care, and keep writing O' Happy Warrior.
A.S.
Sgt. Welsh, thank you for your service and like some of the other commenters have said, please know that even though Hollywood doesn’t tell you about those of us who are grateful, it doesn’t mean we don’t exist. Your bravery and perserverance are visible and your outrage is justified, but know that you are loved, admired and prayed for by many who don’t have Hollywood’s far reaching voice.
In truth, I didn’t watch your Valley of Elah, Rendition, or HBO clips because I’ve already refused to give them my time or money for denigrating our troops. I did watch your video at the end, though, and I appreciate the wake up call. It’s easy to sit back and get complacent because you and others have done such an amazing job protecting us. I’m sorry that we haven’t been protesting the negative portrayals loudly enough for you to realize that you are greatly appreciated. You deserve that and so much more.
So, God bless you and thank you so much.
Brother
I feel your pain. I have pulled three trips to Iraq and I’m 5 months into my first to Afghanistan. At my shop in CA we have a wall with 24 photos on it. Photos of our fallen brothers, friends that have worked and served with me. One of those photos is Criss, he was in my wedding. Another is Mikey, I was his team leader. He died right in front of me. I’ve been in the Corps for 13 years, 7 of those as EOD. I love my job, and I know what you feel. Each time I would see a brother die I would feel that rage burn in to me. Yet not once did any of us ever allow that rage to take over. We never went went on a killing spree of locals just to satisfy that rage. We did our jobs and our duty. We are the lost, the broken, the useless. We are too ugly, to mean, to violent for Hollywood. The truth is, we are too real for Hollywood. You, me, and all the others like us, we are the real, the true heros. I’ll bet a paycheck Bian De Palma thinks he is so brave for making that crap movie. Hey Brian, if your so brave, come hang out in the Afghan mountains with me and my team for a week. Come walk the villages we walk, come drive the trails we drive. Then we will talk brave. Sgt Welsh, you, and all of us, we are above them. We are above those that taunt, and jeer. We are “doers” not talkers. We are warriors brother. We are the man in the arena, and we do what we do for us, for our reasons. And our reasons are above all others. We have duty and honor. The sad thing is, they have the paycheck, that’s how America see’s success, the rich are the good and the true. Our new president said some pretty crappy things about the warriors, we are above that, we have honor and duty. Those that criticize are petty, shallow and arogant. Remember who you are and what you did, what you have accomplished is above what they talk about and they can never take that away. Let them make there movies, let them talk their talk, let them hate and forget. Be proud Sgt, keep the honor. Semper Fi.
CCFK – you clearly ascribe to Falsifyability – there is no conceivable set of circumstances that could ever prove you wrong. In this case it’s your abject and baseless hate of our military and your utter adoration of Obambi.
Sgt. Welsh – my husband will be doing his second tour in Iraq. The thought of him being there under a President who is devoid of knowledge, courage, or honor is terrifying. You made me feel a hell of a lot better – even if leadership fails, men and women like you will continue to go above and beyond. Thank you.
I can certainly understand your frustration – but the blame needs to be placed on the traitors that wasted American resources on a useless war – not the messengers that stood up and said what our country was doing is wrong. How much more useless sacrifice would have happened if everyone marched in lockstep? Blame the cabal of Zionists who controlled our foreign policy – those with loyalties to Israel, not the US. The ones who say you as disposable goy like they are taught from the Talmud. Look at people like Wolfowitz.
Oh, and I see that Netanyahu is saying their perception of Iran being a threat is more important than the GLOBAL economic crisis. Just a glimpse into how these parasites think. Everything is about them.
Wake up.
[...] Iraq vet takes on Hollywood, singles out Brian de Palma’s “Prefabricated.” Related. Posted by Dan Collins @ 7:56 am | Trackback SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “Emancipation Defalcation [Dan Collins]“, url: “http://proteinwisdom.com/?p=14207″ }); [...]
During most of the Iraq War, it appeared to me that the vast majority of media reporting was negative, and many liberals in Hollywood and elsewhere were swept up by this incessant negative drum beat. Critics of Bush, “neocons,” or Republicans in general, heard exactly what they wanted to hear and reacted to every death, every IED, every car bomb, every incident of rogue soldiering, and every incident of “friendly fire” with what can only be descibed as a morbid kind of glee.
But in all honesty, anyone with even a modicum of knowledge of U.S. military history knows that this war was probably one of the cleanest, least destructive wars in our history. Fatalities were low for both civilians and combatants for such a conflict, and the survival rate for those wounded unprecedented. Even the magnitude of stupid mistakes on our part during this war pales in comparison to stupid mistakes made during Vietnam, Korea, or even the “Good War” — World War II.
So why all the negativity in the press?
Simple. Modern-era Journalism 101.
As a former practicing military journalist, I realize that according the fundamental rules of modern-era journalism, in news reporting, death always leads, followed by serious injury, and then significant destruction and high-visibility/high-dollar property damage.
But it’s also clear to me that al Qaeda, Iraqi insurgents, and others who would do the civilized world harm are also well aware of these rules, and thus make regular car-bombings or other mass mayhem a key part of their strategy to keep any positive news off of the front page or TV news, or unreported entirely.
In short, because of its current rules of journalism, the Fourth Estate has, in effect, become a catalyst for terror, leading to far more death and destruction of innocent people in Iraq, and elsewhere, than any amount of errant coalition bombs ever could.
I often wonder if the folks in the media realize how skillfully they are being played by the bad guys, and if they plan to make changes to their modern-day journalism rules to temper such murderous media manipulation in future conflicts.
And those in Hollywood who are quick to jump on the “America is evil” or “U.S. troops are monsters” bandwagon based on what is reported by the media may also want to reassess their complicity in aiding and abetting those in this world who are truly evil.
Sgt. Welsh, the media and amoral clowns running the country now don’t care about your opinions or the state of the military other than to neuter it. May they be cursed.

“I guess I am one of them there zionists, what with me being a Jew and all. I even have duel citizenship, TERRY. So Sgt Welsh, I hope you will accept from a “parasite” such as my family and me, a huge G-d Bless you and thank you for bringing to light the lies of Hollywood and the MSM. The people who serve the Army, Navy Marines etc deserve the gratitude of all Americans and the world.”
Only country that has benefitted is Israel. Same ones who wanted us to fight Israel’s war in Iraq want us to attack Iran for them next.
We were far better off with Saddam in charge of things over there and with a few trillion less in debt. Wasn’t worth one American life, much less thousands. But the goy are dispensible to attain Israel’s goals according to Zionists.
Sgt Welch,
Thank you for your service! I don’t have any regard for liberal Hollywood. They spout all of their BS expecting us to believe their opinion is greater and more accurate than ours just because they are in front of the camera? They are self-absorbed gluttons. These elite wealthy liberals try to tell us what you and we should do and then they get in their $100,000 plus cars and go to the club. They tell us that Republicans and Conservatives are rich selfish people as they walk in their multi-million dollar homes staffed by maids, cooks, and personal assistants? Give me a BREAK! It’s the other way around most of the time.
Hollywood libs should be taken to Iraq for 6 months. I bet they would sing a different tune. You are the hero, sir. They are activist mob cowards who shove their opinion down our throats. I for one am not listening to them and I stopped watching and buying tickets to their movies. I’ll do my best to support Conservative Hollywood but that’s it. Breitbart and others like him- thank you! If you make it, I’ll buy it. The other liberal tyrants can all take a long walk on a short pier. Again, thank you again Sgt Welsh. It’s nice to know we have a few good REAL MEN left in this nation. Don’t go to Hollywood and LA to find them; they are few and far between.
Keep it up, Sarge. We have family serving over there, for the last few years, and we KNOW first-hand just how much GOOD is being done since we hear it straight from the Army engineers who are rebuilding and liberating.
BTW, to say that Iraqis don’t want democracy and could never understand or appreciate is RACIST. Just because they have not had it (thanks, Saddam) doesn’t mean they can’t learn it and appreciate it.
I can’t understand the shrill voices on the left who clamor for unlimited free (read: HATE) speech here in the USA (witness the vile SNL treatment of the Palin family, for example) yet these same pundits say that the kind of freedom THEY insist upon here in America would not be appreciated by Iraqis? Not ever?
Right…let’s keep all these other folks in their natural “habitat” so we can visit them on occasion as if they were in some kind of zoo.
I totally stand with Sgt Welsh. As a former Marine and mil blogger, who spent three combat tours in Iraq, I feel his frustration. I’ve had enough of our bias media. As the violence subsides in Iraq, the slim ball mainstream media slowly leave the country. If they can’t report negative stuff on Iraq, they won’t report at all.
I appreciate your service you are doing, and have done, for the country. Forget CCFK. Especially when he/she (we’ll call it and “it”), It does it’s Hmmmmm crap. I work in the biz and it is very true that all these filmmakers have a side and love to sing and dance their message till everyone tastes the kool-aid.
Sgt Welsh –
If it is any consolation all these Iraq movies were bombs at the box office – Millions of us know the spin the MSM gives to our military – a funny internet post was how they would have treated the D-Day invasion today – “Thousands of French civilians killed” instead of “Nazis beaten” – their main sin IMO is moral relativism – look at how they treat the Israelis after having 7,000 rockets thrown at them over the last couple of years
Just look at how they treat Vietnam Vets – according to them they are all psychos
The good news is that millions of us “get it” and have looked towards alternative news – ie, new media – it is a shame that you have to go to web sites to get a truer picture but also the newspapers are dying – wonder why
Somebody was snidely questioning Michael Yon’s credentials – he is an ex Special Forces who has the respect of most men in the field – I truest his objectivity a lot more than the NYT
I think you guys are the best generation we’ve had since WW2 – thank you for your service
What’s genuinely interesting is that the Hollywood crowd are clearly liars, just on the face of it.
If they genuinely believed that American soldiers were simple killers, they would also be terrified that when the guys come home they’d go looking for their enemies and detractors. Penn, et al., are just as convinced as anyone that American troops are decent people. That enables them to be as insulting and denigrating as they like.
Regards,
Ric
Thank you for writing this. It can’t be reiterated enough. As we all know too well, on the TV networks good news is no news when it comes to our own – quite humane – military. For those of us not living in a fantasy world, thanks.
CCFK – “But according to then Senator and now President Obama, all I did was air-raid villages and kill innocent civilians. This is a video I will never forget:”
“Hmmm…we don’t hear the question, we don’t know the date, we don’t even know that that Obama is talking about Iraq.”
If you were not aware of the video before now means that you have bought into this bs liberal crap without knowing the facts. Do your how work, boy, and quite showing your ingnorance.
Sgt. Welsh – Thank you. I am just one of millions that really do support our military. The media has highjacked the message, but we do support you. My daughter is in the delayed entry program with the Marines and will be going to boot in September. She is my baby, but I know her brother and sister Marines will have her back.
Yeah. Kind of hard to watch. I was there in ‘03 with the NSW Task Group and then in ‘04 as chaplain to 2nd BN, 2nd MAR. Too many memories on the one hand and wish to God I could be back there. One has to make choices, though, and mine took me away from the fight.
Take heart, though, Sgt. What we have done and are doing is right, and true, and honorable. I am fully prepared to stand before God for my part in helping to identify, isolate and kill evil men in this war. I’d do it again.
God keep you, brother. Keep the faith.
Sgt Welsh, thanks for your service. I don’t think going to Iraq was a waste, but, I do think we should’ve gone in with overwhelming force, not just the 100,000 or so soldiers who were sent. That wasn’t your or your fellow soldiers’ fault that was Rumsfelds’ fault for being an idiot. I wish I could’ve gone in the military, but I had asthma and they wouldn’t let me, because my family has served in every conflict since the French & Indian War, and I wanted to do my patriotic duty. So, instead, I make sure service members know I support them.
So, my questions is… why does the military put up with people in power like Pelosi or Obama, who are a bunch of appeasers?
Cliff – January 29th, 2009 at 8:24 am
“Sgt Welsh, thanks for your service. I don’t think going to Iraq was a waste”
To answer that intelligently, you have to answer “what was the cost.” Can you tell us what the cost of this war was in total? What was gained for Americans?
Posting this primarily to cast one more ‘vote’ in favor of our troops AND their efforts and sacrifices. My impression of them, after seeking out the news that MM largely ignores, is that they are the cream of the crop, period.
PopMedia couldn’t be bothered to inform us of the day to day work done by our own citizen-soldiers, preferring to focus on the politics {being in the pocket of the ‘rightful heirs’ to power- the Democratics}. The droning from the Left has them claiming they ’support the troops’, just not anything they actually accomplish. In this they reveal that they learned a lesson from the “baby-killer” days of Vietnam. Or did they? What they lurned were new ways of being disingenuous.
Thank you, Sgt. Welsh for all your efforts. That the major media oppose them is more evidence that you are doing the right thing, and doing it well. You deserve better, it’s true. But take some comfort in knowing that a huge percentage of the American public still regard your profession and our shared cause to defeat the jihadists as noble.
Respectfully,
Jeff Perren
Sgt. Welsh thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service and the videos. Our son was a Marine until health issues forced him out. He misses it every single day! People like CCFK and those ignorant libs in Hollywood have their heads in the sand, hate our country, our military, and defend those who would cut thier heads off, were they given the chance. I agree with other posts…CCFK I would pay for your plane ticket to Iraq if you really think this is all a bunch of BS. Sad thing is, our new president probably thinks the same way you do and that’s why he is truly an Obamanation!!! Sgt. Welsh there are millions upon millions who consider you and all others serving in the military heroes. I salute you and continue to pray for all who put their lives on the line for us every single day. SEMPER FI
Thank you for your service, Sgt Welsh.
Sgt. Welch,
Your heroics have not gone un-noticed, but we have been far too silent.
Although I have always had questions about the war, lets not forget that the Gore, Clinton, and a host of others stood before Congress and told them that “Saddam must be stopped” because they believed that he was attempting to gain nuclear weapons. AND THIS WAS BEFORE GEORGE W. WAS IN OFFICE.
Lets not forget about the yellow cake that even MSN reported many layers down on their website.
Lets not forget that even Hillary came back from her Iraq Vay-Cay and stated that things weren’t as bad as she thought.
Everyone talks about the despicable treatment of our Prisoners, but seem to forget the beheadings of our soldiers, reporters, etc. Oh and BTW those beheadings were done with a knife like cutting off a turkey wing, NOT a nice clean single blow. You can find the video’s on line. And I am sorry, but I have little sympathy for a few men who were forced to stand around naked. Really! I have been to Frat parties that were worse. Waterboarding you say? Lets do a “torture” to torture comparison first! I guess we are supposed to have them sit down with Aunt Bee with some milk and cookies.
Sgt. I support you and everything you stand for, as does everyone I know. We owe you a debt of gratitude, and you should know that there are a lot people here at home who have your back. We just need to speak up more.
Terry the troll,
What did you EVER do for your country. Do you think America is so dead that people like you will actually run it for any length of time. People wise up to stupid things…. You are that thing.
Sgt. Thanks to you and all before you for service to our country. I served, and will never forget! God Bless the USA!
-JCR
John –
When the military no longer serves the interests of this country (and they don’t) then they are at best a drain on this country and at worst a threat to it (witness them confiscating guns in New Orleans).
I don’t see how joining the military serves this country one bit. Serves the GOVERENMENT, sure! Are you guys supposed to be wary of the government as conservatives? The Founding Fathers were and they opposed standing armies. It serves the individuals who join who are increasingly amoral and uneducatated adrenaline-junkie lowlifes. These people are being primed to be set against the American people (again, witness New Orleans). This is a threat to this country, not a service.
thank you for your service SGT. Welsh.
” It serves the individuals who join who are increasingly amoral and uneducatated adrenaline-junkie lowlifes. These people are being primed to be set against the American people (again, witness New Orleans). This is a threat to this country, not a service.”
Terry, you almost got a response until you printed this lovely statement. There are smart and dumb people in all parts of life. The statement above removes any doubt of your objectivity, or clear thought.
PS. I asked what you ever did for the country… Not are you a vet!
John.
Christopher – January 29th, 2009 at 8:59 am
“Your heroics have not gone un-noticed, but we have been far too silent.”
What a sick concept of “hero” you have. Killing people because the government says so makes all the Nazis heros, too. Better revise your definition.
“Although I have always had questions about the war, lets not forget that the Gore, Clinton, and a host of others stood before Congress and told them that “Saddam must be stopped” because they believed that he was attempting to gain nuclear weapons. AND THIS WAS BEFORE GEORGE W. WAS IN OFFICE.”
Big fans of Democrats, then, are you? Big fan of big government?
That only reveals the depths to which AIPAC writes our foreign policy. Saddam didn’t have nuclear weapons and was no where close to them (funny, Pakistan does and we aren’t invading THEM. That choice is the best advertisement of gaining nuclear weapons there is for these countries. Better start paying attention to the signals we are sending because other countries are.). And these same Zionist parasites are the ones hyping up fears about Iran and nuclear weapons! All about war for Israel’s goals and at America’s expense.
“Lets not forget about the yellow cake that even MSN reported many layers down on their website.”
Yellow layer cake? Run for the hills!
“Lets not forget that even Hillary came back from her Iraq Vay-Cay and stated that things weren’t as bad as she thought.”
Big fan of Hillary, are you?
“Everyone talks about the despicable treatment of our Prisoners, but seem to forget the beheadings of our soldiers, reporters, etc.”
You mean people defending their homeland? WE are the invaders. They are like the Wolverines in the movie Red Dawn. Never forget that.
“Oh and BTW those beheadings were done with a knife like cutting off a turkey wing, NOT a nice clean single blow.”
More respectable that some coward that shoots people off a FLIR screen. THESE PEOPLE ARE REAL MEN – that is what frightens you. You KNOW you don’t have the chops to do something like that – to truly face your enemy. Same with the VC.
“You can find the video’s on line. And I am sorry, but I have little sympathy for a few men who were forced to stand around naked.”
How about others in this pig-headed “War on Terror” like described here:
http://www.antiwar.com/reese/?articleid=12744
This is not America. It is what the Zionists wish, though. A hollow, valueless Frankenstein of a country easily manipulated by fear and catch-phrases.
thank you soldiers for all you do..and f- the haters…..just remember every thing comes full circle (2012)….i will never forget 9/11/2001 or my friends who parished that day……these people here posting these negative posts are the ones who don’t believe in Freedom…or understand the cost of it…..
Amen…
Sgt. Welsh is a liar. Here’s why.
The embedded video is about Afghanistan, NOT Iraq. Obama has made this point multiple times. That we need more troops on the ground in Afghanistan in order to better fight the terrorists there, and that lacking those troops, we’re left to fight an inefficient air war that often leads to civilian casualties. This is in no way, not even a little bit, to suggest that the men and women fighting in Iraq did nothing other than ‘air raid villages and kill innocent civilians.’
Complaining about public misconceptions about the war in Iraq is fair enuf. Lying about the context, not to mention lying about something President Obama said is not. Full stop.
Great post. As a Soldier I agree completely. I just saw “Battle for Haditha” I thought bin-Laden Productions made it. I couldn’t have been more pro-insurgent had it tried, deserves a place with “Redacted” in war propaganda.
It is so sickening my friends tell me stories of what they went through over there and even as their commanding officer I am still in awe of what they say, but Hollywood makes tripe, that loses money, and says “no one wants to see a war movie.” Please.
Thank you for saying this, my beloved Stepson has served 3 tours in Iraq and the CAP Cadet I was closest to for years and think of as my own son is there now on his second tour with the Marines and I KNOW they are, have been, will remain good, true, honest Americans who would no more do the things the pissants in Hollywood try to sell us as normal for our soldiers, they are not and never were that kind of people. (Nor was my father who served in the Marines for 20 years from Korea to Vietnam.) Have not seen, and refuse to see any more Hollywood movies about our military until they get it right, thank you for expressing what many of use feel.
Jack Bauer, I’m going to assume that’s comedy. Don’t quit your day job. My point about the Sgt.’s dishonesty stands.
The media’s involvement in the war, and ALL topics is well beyond simply reporting the facts. People in this country don’t seem to realize that the days of integrity in reporting and honorable news casters are long gone. From Katie Couric’s “got ya” journalism, to Keith Olberman’s constant blabbering of incoherant crap and calling it news…people are being brainwashed. Just beccause they wear nice suits and have white teeth does not make them news reporters.
From the bottom of my soul I thank all the soldiers in our military who protect this wonderful country. Just yesterday my 18 month old daughter and I spent the day making hand made valentines to send to Iraq.
Please don’t let the naysayers influence you. Liberals are notorious followers, and their leader is simply a “good speaker”.
Sgt. Welsh, thank you for your service. God Bless You for the sacrifices you and your fellow servicemen have made and go unrewarded and denigrated.
It pisses me off, too.
Time to make the REAL Iraq War movie. Let’s pass around the tin cup, and DO IT!
Dear Sgt. Welsh:
Thank you for your service. May God bless you and watch over you.
Dear Hollywood and the Left:
Let me see if I get this right:
1. After 9/11, it was pretty much unanimous that the Taliban and Al Queda were the #1 threat to the US.
2. After deposing the Taliban, the sights could be set on Al Queda. However, Al Queda is not a country. What to do?
3. There sits Saddam Hussein. In 1991, the US-led coalition, as a condition in ceasing the annihilation of the Iraqi army, agreed to a number of stipulations involving destroying and dismantling any WMD capabilities Iraq had or was pursuing, to be verified by UN inspectors. In the subsequent decade, he repeatedly reneged on this agreement, frustrating WMD inspectors at every turn. As a result of this and information gathered by the intelligence agencies of the US and Britan, it was widely believed, by both Republican and Democrat, the Clintons and the Bushes and our allies across the pond, that Saddam was still harboring WMD capability.
4. Based on this shared belief, President Bush is given authorization by Congress to use military force to depose Saddam. In March 2003, the US military invades Iraq.
5. Though the Iraq army is defeated quickly and Saddam goes into hiding, no WMDs are found in Iraq. While this may be considered a damning indictment of both US and British intelligence agencies (I say ‘may’ because between the time serious consideration began about whether the US would invade Iraq (summer 2002) and the invasion, Hussein had plenty of time to move any WMD to Syria), it does not point to “Bush lied”, as the belief that Iraq had WMDs was rather bi-partisan and unanimous, to the point that one big worry leading up to the invasion was whether Saddam would use chemical weapons against US troops.
6. Instead of deposing Iraq and leaving its people to the mercies of their neighbors or internal strife, the US military stayed and attempted to rebuild Iraq.
7. Almost 4 years of struggle followed, and many believe the war was mishandled. Bush could either cut his losses or find a way to win. He chose the latter. Enter one Gen. David Patreaus. Getting the additional troops he needed to employ a new strategy in Iraq, within a year Al Queda in Iraq had been almost completely annihilated, and Iraq’s govt. announces that 15 of the 18 benchmarks set for being an established constitutional democracy had been met.
Recap: Almost 6 years after invasion, a) a brutal dictator has been deposed, b) the US has rebuilt his mess of a country to the brink of it becoming an established constitutional democracy in Al Queda’s back yard ( a major PR and morale blow to Al Queda ), c) Al Queda has been severely weakened, d) not a single terrorist attack has occurred on American soil, as Al Queda was busy fighting and losing exactly the kind of war they are least equipped to fight (i.e. against trained and equipped soldiers instead of unarmed civilians), e) Osama Bin Laden is neither powerful in life or in death as a martyr, but has been marginalized to point of irrelevancy, and f) all this was accomplished with less US casualties than were suffered on D-Day or 1/10 of the casualties of Vietnam.
Whether or not you opposed the initiating this enterprise (as did I), or whether or not you thought the post-invasion pre-surge period was mismanaged (as did I), to continue to deny the accomplishments of the US military and to deny the success and goodness of the present state of Iraq for both the Iraqi people and the US, to continue to proclaim the situation in Iraq as a colossal failure is be at serious odds with the facts.
Sgt. Welch~
Thank you for your service. You are a hero to me, and I am forever grateful for the sacrifices you have made and the freedom you have fought to protect.
God Bless You!
Please allow me to interupt the senseless hero-worship to say that CCFK is correct about the snippet of video at the first of this post. It’s lack of context hurts your argument.
I also want to second the opinion of Mr. Blifil in his comment which begins, “Obama has said on numerous occasions that the service is honorable, but the mission is fatally flawed.”
I have family and friends in Irag, people with a great desire to serve their country and help their fellow man. I myself cannot go due to health concerns. (I checked with the local Air Force recruiting office.)
It angers me that our military men and women are being used to further the size of certain people’s pocketbooks rather than to further the cause of freedom. From day one of this mess, America has had more private contractors profiting from the war than U.S. military personel defending our interests.
This unsanity has to stop. But Pres. Obama seems unwilling, perhaps unable, to do anything about the real problem. The American people must demand that this exploitation of our military, our families, our friends, our society and the Iraqi people end.
Leaving hero-worshiping comments on blog rants, calling fellow Americans cowards and wishing death on those we don’t agree with are useless activities. These things ignore the problem, just as Pres. Obama ignores the problem.
Jack, I have no choice but to assume you’re serious, so I’ll respond in kind. The reason we invaded Afghanistan in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack is that Afghanistan is where the terrorists were. That’s why it made more sense than invading, I dunno, Canada. Feel free to disagree. As for Pakistan, if Osama Bin Laden is encamped there, and using the Pakistani government’s unwillingness to go after him as a kind of protection? Yes, we go in, we take him off the board.
This is war. It’s not cheerleading to suggest we fight it.
Don’t let the ignorant so-and-so’s get you down, including our very ignorant new and inexperienced president who has never been in a combat situation and is rather wet behind those gigantic ears of his. Many people, including me, understand what this war is really about and how important it is that we man-up and not turn tail and run as all yellow bellied neo-libs seem to want to do. President Bush did a great job of sending a ‘don’t mess with the US’ message. Obama is sending a,’we are pansies hear us run’ message. I’d rather be hated and at the top of the food chain that get eaten while I’m acting all warm and fuzzy.
Ahh, Jack Lad, your point finally emerges. What really ticks you off are folks who think the war in Iraq was strategic error while supporting action in Afghanistan at the same time. The geo-political version of chewing gum and walking at the same time.
Careful you don’t trip.

“Terry we get it, your an anti Semite. And frankly your rantings are more fit for Munich circa 1935. And I would bet you don’t even get what I mean by what I said to.”
Anti-Semitism isn’t hating Jews – it is being hated by Jews.
Indeed, look around. The financial situation is much like Germany in 1935 Germany. BTW, in *1933* International Jews declared WAR on Germany. You are just too blind and ignorant to see that same actors are responsible for our own financial crisis. At least Germans woke up to it.

After a handfull of immigrants with box cutters brought this country to its knees (if you believe that version of the story) Bush not only didn’t close the border, but encouraged a massive invasion with promises of Amnesty. So, no, Bush has made us less safe by giving foreigners both a REASON and a MEANS to attack us. Our food and water supply are huge targets, for example. But understand Bush and the same people who controled him as they control Obama (there is no “change”) can’t wait for another attack and will stage one themselves if no one takes the bait. They want to declare martial law. They want more money and power. What is to stop them?
You guys just keep doing your jobs, lookout for your buds, kill the enemy when you get the chance, hit the deck when the motars come and low crawl to the bunker or hole, If it is your time to get it, you can’t do a damn thing about it. If you get visitors (VIPS) tell them you want counter battery fire and detection systems which are available, if you don’t have it get it. It picks up the incoming rounds by radar, sounds a siren, early warning, gives you time to hall ass to the bunker or hole, it send co-ordinates to you counter battery team and they blow the sons of bitches up, should also have gun-ship support to comb the area after you ditermine where the rounds come from, quick reaction force to go in gunning for the gooks on the ground, also neck wound bleeding can be stopped sometimes with direct pressure to the wound, but remember the pressure has to be on both sides of the wound to stop the bleeding as in corotid arterial bleeding, if you are going to pray do it on the way to the bunker or hole just get your ass moving, keep up the good work, cover your six and have fun when you can. I was a combat rescue specialist in Vietnam, medic and gunner on USAF Super Jolly Green Giant, three miniguns two PJ’s, flight engineer/gunner, Pilot, co-pilot and sometime combat photag, we got mortars and rockets at least three times a week at Danang RPVN, 66mm mortars, 122mm soviet rockets{incoming}Katusha, and the largest attack we had 116 impacts, 1 kia, 7 wounded US casualties, counterbattery fire was 175mm and 105mm howitzers, cobra gunships hit the launch area after the attacks, found 16 enemy gooks dead, and search and destroy teams later found almost 100 rockets nearby all 122mm, destroyed in place by c4 by engineers, also lots of blood trails. You guys should do better than we did, we didn’t have armored vest of NVGs or thermal imaging, if you don’t have air support, C130 gunship, or helicopter support, then your officers have their heads up their asses, write your congressman, tell them about the stupidity if they are unwilling to fix it or protect you like you should, the helicopters can also provide air evac in case you do no have med facilities available, tell the old man (CO) that he can also use the choppers to rece the local are for potential sites the enemy might use. Good luck, keep your heads down, pass the amunition, and there are no athiest in the battleground of the foxhole. Vietnam Vet 1971-72

God Bless you Sgt. Welsh and THANK YOU for your herioc service. There are sooo many of us who support not only our troops but what you are doing in Iraq and Afganistan. People who have no understanding of the nature of our current enemy are clueless as to why we fight, where we fight and why it matters. For those who can’t seem to get a grip on why Iraq..read the below link. Hollywood has done an about face over the last 50 years when it comes to supporting our troops during wartime. Hollywood does more damage with ridiculous (box office failures) like Rendition, Redacted, etc. by giving solace to the enemy. For that, I see Liberal Hollywood as MY enemy.

Dear Sgt. Welsh:
“Recap: Almost 6 years after invasion, a) a brutal dictator has been deposed, b) the US has rebuilt his mess of a country to the brink of it becoming an established constitutional democracy in Al Queda’s back yard ( a major PR and morale blow to Al Queda ), c) Al Queda has been severely weakened, d) not a single terrorist attack has occurred on American soil, as Al Queda was busy fighting and losing exactly the kind of war they are least equipped to fight (i.e. against trained and equipped soldiers instead of unarmed civilians), e) Osama Bin Laden is neither powerful in life or in death as a martyr, but has been marginalized to point of irrelevancy, and f) all this was accomplished with less US casualties than were suffered on D-Day or 1/10 of the casualties of Vietnam.”
a) Actually, he was an elected secular leader. Now they can vote in religious clerics. How does that fit in with your scheme? Musharaff was brutal dictator who led a military coup. Why did we deal with him? OOOOOOHHHH, that’s right, he had a nuke. So, listen up, countries. If you don’t want to be invaded by the US, be sure to beg, borrow, or steal a nuke (Israel choose the latter route by stealing them from us).
b) people still don’t have power and water like they did with Saddam. Even if what you said is correct, it wasn’t worth one American life or one American dollar.
c) We funded Al Queda – we created them. We have created more terrorist due to our actions.
d) The terrorists know of Sun Tsu. Never attack an enemy in the process of self defeat. We are collapsing more every day. Why would they attack us. You imply that somehow a war in Iraq somehow prevents someone coming here and committing at terrorist act. HOW? You go on to say how absurd it would be for them to attack our military. Exactly right. They didn’t before – what makes you say they would start now. Those people defending their country in Iraq are like the Wolverines in Red Dawn. We are the invaders. Would you like it if this country were invaded? Think.
e) funny spin for “getting away with 9/11″ – that is if OBL ever was responsible at all.
f) that was back when we had the resources to spare – not 35 TRILLION in debt.
Thanks for serving our country !

A main reason the Liberal Press and blood suckers on the left don’t like the war, is that it takes money away from their other pet projects such as creating more entitlements so they can buy more future votes and stay in office longer.
Thank You, Sgt. Welch for your service to our country. Please know that many ordinary citizens know and appreciate what our military has done in Iraq , Afghanistan and around the world.
We are outraged that Obama became president on very little information about him and his background and on a whole lot of lies about our President Bush and our military. YOU have kept us safe and done the hard work needed to be done. Mr. Obama has benefited from that and the lies that the media and political campaigns told in order to get him elected.
The ignorance of the electorate along with voter fraud around the country has resulted in a travesty of having a president in the WH now out and about apologizing to the Muslim world for America. This is the outrage ignorance breeds.
We have a long road ahead these next four years and maybe longer to regain integrity and decency in America. A hard job but nothing like our military has endured for our freedom. Free to make ignorant and foolish choices. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for keeping us free and doing the heavy lifting. We will never forget and we will always revere our military. The finest and most humane in the world.
God bless you, Sgt. Welsh.
All appreciation.
It’s a sad day when your own nation turns your back on you for protecting and serving her. I’d love to see how all these overgrown children would react to being thrust out to the front lines of the war on terrorism. I’d love to see their reaction to how the terrorists set up mortars in school playgrounds and then after they fire and before we can blow them up, leave so that if we do retaliate we end up shooting innocent children.
I’d love to see their reaction to watching an 11 year old girl being forced to walk into a crowded market with a bomb strapped to her stomach; then the bomb being set off via cell phone and her body parts being flung over other innocent lifeless bodies.
Or maybe that’s a misguided wish, maybe they’d be on the other side already, cheering it on?
Sgt. Welsh, you have my profound thanks for doing what you do.
Wouldn’t it be cool if our troops invaded Hollywood?!
You rock, Sgt. Welsh!
Lola, you’re making a fairly basic error. My complaint has nothing to do with my feelings about the military or even the war in Iraq. My point is that the video the Sergeant used to prove President Obama’s ungrateful/inaccurate opinion about Iraq was in fact about Afghanistan. This was dishonest, whether intentionally or not. And sure, calling him a liar was extreme, and I’m happy to retract it. But that doesn’t make the use of the video any less mistaken or inappropriate.
blueman – January 29th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Are you familiar with the terrorist that murdered kidnapped British soldiers and booby-trapped their bodies? Same ones that blew up a hotel as a terrorist act. They were known as the Irgun and I bet you haven’t even heard of them. But they were rewarded with these and other terrorist acts by being given their own country that is highly subsidized by US and German tax payers.
So, “terrorism works” is the message WE have allowed to be sent by our support of the terrorist state of Israel.
Sgt. Welsh, The sad truth of the matter is that 53% of Americans in the United State have their head up their A$$ and voted for the “ONE”. Mostly because they are misinformed, uneducated and the biggest PUSSIES. Always the ones to bitch the loudest about injustice, but the last to take action. This includes, but is not limited to all, of Hollywood. The other Forty-Six percent of Americans, if not ex-military, or law enforcement or law abiding citizenery commend ALL “fighting the cause for Freedom”. You have every right to be angered, you do-not stand alone, there are many who feel the same as you and all our fallen countrymen&women through the ages. Thank you for all you and all services have done and truely scarificied for America and Others.
SGT Welsh thank you for your service to this great country and to thousands of innocent people around the world. What you men did over there, and continue to do is GOOD. Pay no attention to the liberals, you know how they like to whine and bitch about everything. There are still millions of people who love you and support you. God Bless
Sgt. Welsh, you are truly a great American.
I support you and your fellow soldiers, and do so with all respect for you and your mission.
I am one of a small but growing group who stands in opposition to some peace activists weekly in West Chester, PA.
We call ourselves American sheepdogs and among our numbers are vets from different eras, regular citizens with family members in the service (we have several Blue Star Moms and Dads) and just plain Americans (gun and bible clinging) who care about our troops, and want to see them succeed!
Keep shouting the truth, and God bless you!

God bless you Sgt. Welsh! I support you and all of America’s troop, and wish you success in all of your missions. Keep giving it to the morons in Hollywood, and keep telling people the truth!
I have a nephew who spent 5 months in Iraq, and is scheduled to go back this summer. I also proudly count myself a member of a group from West Chester PA, who support our troops every week, in opposition to the peace activists who gather there to protest the war. Among us (American Sheepdogs) are vets from different eras, and Blue Star Moms and Dads, as well as others who are simply there to show our support for our brave men and women in the armed forces!

Terry:
Thank you for writing such foolish things in response to my comment:
“Actually, he was an elected secular leader. Now they can vote in religious clerics.” You are truly out of your gourd if you think elections under Saddam were ‘free’ in any sense of the word. And yes, they may now vote in religious clerics; we, in the US, may vote in ministers, rabbis, priests, or a cleric of any other religion should we so choose.
“Even if what you said is correct, it wasn’t worth one American life or one American dollar.” Yeah, all those things I listed were worthless. Keep telling yourself that, though it pretty much negates any claim to being part of a “reality-based” community.
“We funded Al Queda – we created them.” Yes, we armed them and trained them to fight the Soviets, the world’s greatest evil at the time. That they repaid our aid by turning on us speaks more to their character than ours.
“You go on to say how absurd it would be for them to attack our military. Exactly right. They didn’t before – what makes you say they would start now.” Jesus, do you know anything about what has happened on the ground over there? I will try to sum up the testimony of my many friends in the military (including a few in the Pentagon) as to what has been happening in Iraq:
The Iraq war is a “Bleeding” war. Its purpose is not to defeat an enemy, which would be almost impossible, since our enemy isn’t well-defined by his nature as a terrorist. Its purpose is simple but effective…to will bleed his ability to bring the fight to us by draining his munitions, manpower, wealth, resources and recruiting bases. After Iraq’s defenses fell, we did something very odd for an army that was (ostensibly) merely focusing on occupying and rebuilding a country: we left the borders open. This was done to encourage the enemy to fight us on their own soil, causing them collateral damage, and all the while bleeding their ability to wage war on us where we’re most vulnerable, here in the U.S. (I suppose your liberal mind has now filtered out the reports of the MSM that Al Queda in 2003-07 was pouring into Iraq, which was presented as evidence of the war’s failure). While in Iraq, US troops have fought Chechnians, Lybians, Jordanians, Sudanese, Iranians, Lebanese and Iraqis. To assert that Al Queda was too smart to be lured into battle against US troops is easily refuted by testimony from our own soldiers, leaders, and even the MSM.
Pre-surge, our tactics were ineffective. Our soldiers would go into a community to try to root out the enemy and build infrastructure, but once they returned to base, Al Queda operatives would come in and kill everyone who helped or was suspected to helping the Americans. Patreaus’ strategy was to form “pods” of soldiers as a consistent establishment in the communities (for which he needed additional manpower, hence the surge). By establishing a consistent presence, they began to earn the trust of the Iraqi people (now able to contrast the US soldiers’ day-to-day humanity with Al Queda’s day-to-day brutality), who began to assist them more and more with their efforts. Al Queda in Iraq began suffering large numbers of casualties, and as the “Bleeding” became hemoraging, began surrendering steadily. As of today, Al Queda is finished in Iraq, and their morale and reputation has been dealt an enormous blow. For you to deny these facts, as related by our soldiers, leaders, and even the MSM, is to continue to refuse to face reality.
“funny spin for ‘getting away with 9/11′ – that is if OBL ever was responsible at all.” Wow. Even foolish enough to wander into “Truther” territory.
“that was back when we had the resources to spare – not 35 TRILLION in debt.” In light of yesterday’s “Stimulus” Package of primarily pork spending being passed by the House with only Democrats voting for it, hearing a liberal fret about govt. spending can only strike me as humorous.
Sir, you are a fool. That you wish to display this publicly is to your own misfortune and my pity and amusement.
Sgt. Welsh,
God bless you for your service and dedication. You, and the thousands of other soldiers that demonstrate daily true courage to preserve and promote freedom, are in our prayers nightly.
As for your blog post, it speaks about the issue from a perspective that many of us do not have. We do share your anger and outrage, but I also condition that outrage with optimism. I’ve seen America where it stands now, and 4 years later we were blessed with Ronald Reagan and a renewed spirit of patriotism that I still believe we can return to.
Welsh,
declaring war on hollywood is a just and noble cause in my opinion.
members of the military like yourself who give up so much for our freedom, and yes our freedom of speech just to have that same freedom used against you is shameful.
you are a great American. and dont worry about these little KOS kids who have for one reason or another decided to come over here in an attempt to create a ‘Gotcha!’ moment. something i have witnessed over the years is when a lefty tries to win an argue with their superior intellect they are usually found wanting
These military expenditures have bankrupted the country and all you clowns in costume can think about is your stupid mission.
Most of us out here wish you all would just shoot yourselfs.
Mr. Blifil:
I stand by everything I have written. I choose to believe my friends in the military who have served in Iraq and the ones currently in the Pentagon, as well as the reports I glean from various news sources, both foreign and domestic (my job requires me to be online about 12 hours a day). That you continue to cherry-pick which reports to cite in order to prop up your fantasy of an Iraq teetering on the edge of collapse reflects worse on your judgment than it does to the content of any of my statements.
Sgt. Welsh,
Believe me, we are in your corner bro…I have seen those movie clips and they are a joke, especially that punk~ass E~8 talking about his 3 tours…POGS! The movie that really pisses me off though is In the Valley of Elah…I was so enraged by this movie, so insulted and when Tommy Lee Jones raised the colors upside down, I almost puked…

To SSGT. J Ontiveros;
Pull your head and the Left’s dick out of your ass, the latter of which you seem particularly willing to take.
First of all, you may fight only for the man next to you, but there are those of us who fight for our country and its values as well.
Secondly, as a Marine, you might want to reconsider letting the Corps take it up the ass, and instead have the balls to stand up and defend it. Not all Marines enjoy the cock to ass proximity that you do.
And see, it’s not just about standing up and defending the Corps’ honor against media lies, it is about the very thing you claim to be most concerened about: protecting the life of the man next to you.
Let me tell you how it works in America. if the CIC doesn’t enjoy sufficient public support to fight a war to its necessary victory, he is very often unable to.
And this leaves each and every one of us in the field exposed to everything from gear, weapons, and ammunition shortages, to retreat before the real beast of defeat has reared its head.
This leads to new troop deaths, and via self-imposed defeat, it leads to the value of the lives of those already killed being degraded to absolute zero.
And what controls public opinion in this country? The media.
So when you tell Sergeant Welsh to stop worrying about what the media says, you are committing the greatest sin of all. You are letting down the man next to you, you are leaving him without support, without cover, without a chance.
Wise up, hard charger.

“As of today, Al Queda is finished in Iraq,”
They weren’t IN Iraq before (even if they are now). So, we wasted a trillion dollars (with the money flowing to people like Blackwater, Carlyle Group, Halliburton, etc…) and thousands of American lives to do nothing.
Terry,
As you continue to join Mr. Blifil in the “bury your head in the DailyKos” approach to what has been accomplished in Iraq, I consider my previous comment (12:35 pm) and the last sentence of my 12:26pm comment to suffice as a response to you and similar fools.
Good day, sir.
I don’t read DailyKos and I am a conservative like Pat Buchanan (and a host of other conservatives opposed to this war for Israel from the start).
I’ve noticed a lot of you who speak glowingly of the mission in Iraq and about how Saddam was “bad” are on the wrong side of the Israel-Palestinian issue. You don’t seem to mind Israel’s oppression of the Palestinians…and that we pay tons of money to SUPPORT (and one of the main reasons we are hated in the world.) In short, your POV is being programmed by the Zionists and Israel. Mine is consistent. America first, not Israel.
Terry
your use of the word oppression when speaking of how Israel is handling the Palestinians is sickening. how would you like to have thousands of unguided missiles flying towards your city? Hamas deserves what they get. and ever wonder about civilian casualties there? well thats because the great group Hamas fires rockets from hospitals and schools. and your sentence where you mentioned saddam being “bad” pisses me off too. i guess you think genocidal tyrants awesome. but i dont. he is dead now and i am happy that are military dealt with him.
Sgt. Welch, I just made my 10th tour overseas to support our warriors with some entertainment. I KNOW how important your work has been….I KNOW history will show you did the right thing with this mission. I believe in you and all that you protect with your bravery and patriotism. You have my thanks, my support and my prayers. I will continue to support you in country and back home….without you we are nothing….certainly not FREE.
Thank you for the sacrafice of yourself and your family.
I know how you feel. I was at Balad during the first election, when the Iraqis ratified the constitution. Outside of Iraq, all the media could do was tell us how badly it was going to go and how futile it was. The successful election, with millions of purple fingers waved in defiance of terrorists, was a momentary blip on the media radar, which then refocused on Abu Ghraib, fake stories about flushed Koran’s and other assorted disinformation and lies. Our accomplishments meant nothing to CNN and the NY Times, much less Hollywood. But remember one thing that a far better writer than Brian DePalma once said about “gentlemen now a-bed,” that “they shall curse themselves and hold their manhoods cheap whilst any speaks who fought with us this day.” They don’t have the honesty to curse themselves, but they know what they are, and that’s why they envy us.
kurt(the infidel) – January 29th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
“your use of the word oppression when speaking of how Israel is handling the Palestinians is sickening.”
No, their actions are sickening and is condemned worldwide. Only reason you don’t hear about it is because the US media is, for all practical purposes, owned and run by Zionists.
“how would you like to have thousands of unguided missiles flying towards your city?”
How would you like for China to start building colonies on US soil? Think they might be attacked? Well, how is that different that the land Israel illegally occupies?
“Hamas deserves what they get.”
I bet you don’t even know that Israel broke the cease fire and was in violation of UN resolution 242? Did you? CNN does.

“i guess you think genocidal tyrants awesome.”
Apparenly genocide by the Israelis is fine, though???? You have inconsistent views.
Terry
you definitely are a “conservative” like Pat Buchanan. post a picture of your swastika tattoo would you please.
Please don’t ever ban the likes of Terry or MRblifil or Harley. It’s always good to see what stupidity and hatred look like. Anti-semitism lives on the left.
Sgt. Welsh -
The last video was more graphic than I had anticipated. Not only the outright murder of those 3 men in front of the dirt pile, but every last bit of this video drilled horror into my soul. The hardest part to watch was from under the bunk while the morters grew closer and closer, and one of the soldiers prayed and asked God to make it stop. We civilians could never understand how horrifying a situation such as that must be. From that point in the film I found it difficult to concentrate as I was crying. All I could think was that those men lying on the floor, begging God to stop the morters were someone’s son, brother, husband. Every person who walks freely in this great country should be required to watch this video and only then should they be allowed to oppose our men and women who are protecting us. I can almost guarantee there would be a lot more patriotic folks walking about after witnessing that horror.
There are not enough words to thank you and your fellow soldiers for all that you have done to protect us and our wonderful country.
Please remember you are admired and appreciated for all that you have done.
I find it funny that placing America first causes such hysteria among the brainwashed here. It has been all but eliminated from our media and you guys don’t seem to have any context so you flail around accusing me of being on both the “Right” and the “Left.” You do know why they call what is on TV “programming” don’t you? LOL! You guys are definitely programmed. I stopped watching it and can see clearly.
Here is a great 10 minute video on how the “left/right” thing is a distraction.

When did the U.S. military become the bad-guys? We are stereotyped “Generation Kill.” I guess that is all we do. All we do is go to Iraq, hunt innocents and slaughter them. I guess that is what I did for eight months while I was there. [...]

“All I could think was that those men lying on the floor, begging God to stop the morters were someone’s son, brother, husband.”
And if not for a cabal of “dual citizens” within our government with names like “Wolfowitz” and “Perle” those men would not be in a foreign country fighting a war for Israel. And we would likely not be watching our country collapse under the weight of these senseless wars.
“Every person who walks freely in this great country should be required to watch this video and only then should they be allowed to oppose our men and women who are protecting us.”
Considering freedom in THIS country is rare nowadays, you may have to change your statements. What this is all about – training and desensitizing Americans to military occupation so it can be implemented in the US (NorthCOM) – is more apparent every day. Our military, in violation of Posse Comitatus, is being used for CHECKPOINTS INSIDE THE US!
“I can almost guarantee there would be a lot more patriotic folks walking about after witnessing that horror.”
Yeah, should make people want to clear our troops out of this war for Israel and save our OWN country first. No war for Israel. No war against Iran.
“There are not enough words to thank you and your fellow soldiers for all that you have done to protect us and our wonderful country.”
That war has only WEAKENED America. Get your priorities straight.
First and foremost, thanks for you service to country. You are a true patriot. Second, I love the areticle and agree 110%. As a prior military member, now civil servant, I see first hand the sacrifice of our US military. I have both family and friends that are in Iraq or have served multiple tours. All that I have spoken too are in complete support of the mission. Sure, they have minor gripes, but given the job they do I think they have the right.
I too am fed up with the portrayal of the military as mindless killing machines. The lack of honesty in the portrayal of our military and country in general from Hollywood and the MSM is abhorent. Still, I hope you do understand that the majority of this country thanks you for your service and sacrifice.
I understand that there are a select few that have banded together to create movies that show the good that America and it’s military do in the world. I purchased a DVD called “An American Carol” and really enjoyed it. The director gives the military it’s just rewards. Even the fun he pokes at the military is in good taste and something that anyone who ever served can easily identifiy with.
Hey, anytime I hear about a new liberal movie decrying the horror’s of the Iraq War I just throw 300 in my DVD player and I feel all better.
“Remember us.” As simple an order as a king can give. “Remember why we died.” For he did not wish tribute, nor song, nor monuments nor poems of war and valor. His wish was simple. “Remember us,” he said to me. That was his hope, should any free soul come across that place, in all the countless centuries yet to be. May all our voices whisper to you from the ageless stones, “Go tell the Spartans, passerby, that here by Spartan law, we lie.” Dillios

Terry,
What do you mean by “dual-citizens?”
+++++++++++
Citizens of two countries – in this case Israel. Foolishly, the US does not forbid dual citizens from serving in our government. No other country allows this to my knowledge. You don’t see Americans running Israel’s government but we sure see a lot of Israelis running ours and subsequently we fight wars for them, give them tons of money, turn a blind eye to their espionage, etc….
God Bless you, Sgt. Welsh, and THANK YOU for your service to our country.
I guarantee that most Americans appreciate our troops.
Jack Bauer:
All I can say this this: you have have managed to do the impossible by forcing me to side with TERRY on something. This should give you a hint on how much of an idiot you are being.
“What a despicable attitude.”
Um, remind me again, which one of you is the idiot doing the drive-by flaming?
“How can you justify this illegal war in Afghanistan?”
Probably using the EXACT same ways we justified our WWII attacks on the Vichy Regime’s colonies: they provide logistical aid to our enemies, they should not be surprised by retaliation.
“Afghanistan NEVER attacked the US.”
Petain and Laval never attacked the Western Allies in WWII.
They just funneled money and staging areas to those who DID.
Nice strawman.
“No Afghani was on-board the four planes on 9/11.”
And no Frenchman fought alongside the Germans and the Iraqi nationalists in Iraq against the British in an effort to sever the Egypt-India connection (and, given the VERY high percentage of Germans marked down as “Frenchmen”, chances are not many of them fought against us in Madagascar, Trans-Jordan, or Morocco EITHER). They “Only” granted the Germans logistical support to sustain the attack.
Not unlike what the Taliban did.
Please come again.
“Yet you blithely want to send terror into the poor people of Afghanistan.”
Right. Ask how many of them would LIKE the Taliban back.
If you need suggestions scheduling the polling, may I suggest that you try and squeeze it in after you poll Iraqi teenagers on what brands of kite were the most popular under Saddam?
“More troops to kill innocent Afghanis.”
And this is a sad reality of war that cannot be avoided. The thing you avoid mentioning is most of the “innocent Afghanis” that are actually, you know, INNOCENT are killed by their fellow Afghanis the Taliban and by foreign Islamists- our FOES. That, and they can get away with doing such reprisals willy-nilly against such “collaborators” while we actually PERSECUTE those in our ranks who attack the “innocent Afghanis” and RIGHTLY SO, I might add.
But you just don’t get that, do you?
“You sir, are are a disgusting WAR MONGER.”
Awww, they are so cute when they TYPE IN ALL CAPS IN THE HOPE THAT IT MAKES UP FOR THEIR LACK OF PROOF BY OFFENDING THE RECIPIENT, aren’t they?
“Shame on you and your ilk.”
Well, Mr. Bauer, let me show you that two can play this game.
No sir, shame on YOU for being a KNAVE, an IDIOT, an APPEASER OF TERRORISTS, and an ILLITERATE FOOL who has absolutely NO grasp of history, warfare, diplomacy, or COMMON SENSE, and who merely is a LOUD, ARROGANT BLOW HARD incapable of making an argument of any depth whatsoever.
(See? I can do it too! And I did it far more effectively then you did!)
“I’m going to assume you’re a war mongering jerkoff.”
Ah, more trademark civility. Look at the things that they are teaching to Preschoolers these days!
As for you, I will have to assume that you are a stupid, idiotic, terrorist-rooting swine who probably cannot find Kabul on a map.
“I want to know why it okay by you to invade Afghanistan and kill Afghanis when they had nothing to do with 9/11?”
Ah, the “take one unfortunate effect of event X and use it to completely smear event X” strategy. Very nice strategy, seeing as how it protects you from, you know, actually having to make an ARGUMENT.
As for the response, I will have to respond that yes, yes it is “Okay” to invade Afghanistan and kill Afghanis when they had nothing to do with 9/11.
And before you go off on a rant about how you have found an evidence of “NeoKon bloodlust”, I will point out that no, it is not a GOOD thing, no more then it was “good” to have thousands of children in Hiroshima be incinerated instantly by the Bomb, or to have to be forced to kill thousands of crippled German grandfathers press-ganged into the Volksturm by their Fuhrer as the “Last Line” of defense.
But, as terrible as those things, be it the deaths of innocent Afghani farmers, innocent Japanese schoolgirls, or innocent German retirees, it is something that must be weathered through. Because, however ugly those things are it does NOT invalidate our cause or the reasons we fight (particularly given the discipline we impose on our soldiers, unlike those of our foes). So, as tragic as they may be, I must say that, yes, they are “Okay” if it means that we can purge Berlin of both Hitler’s cabal and the old military aristocracy, that YES, it is “Okay” if it means breaking the Japanese Empire and its barbaric Bushido code into pieces that it never can reforge, and that YES, it is “Okay” if Afghanistan can be turned in to a flowering Democracy in Central Asia, having been purged of the factions and forces that have given aid and comfort to our enemies in ways that have helped to claim American lives at home, abroad, and those of our allies at home and abroad.
So, let me phrase your “question” in a different light: “I want to know why it is okay to bury our heads in the sand while a tyrannical and theocratic faction gives aid to our sworn foe and kills innocent Afghanis, Americans, Britishmen, Italians, Israelis, etc. Who are in no way connected to the crusades, to the fall of the Moors on the Iberian, and to the WWI destruction of Ottoman Turkey after a DIRECT attack on our homeland by forces affiliated by the aforementioned group?”
See, not so clear-cut now, is it?
“Come on, tell me why you should send more US troops to a country that has never attacked the US?”
Let me think here: The king of Swaziland is being an authoritarian A**hole, and has been ruthlessly crushing his people to maintain his lavish and feudal lifestyle, so perhaps it would be only humane to depose him and help Swaziland become a Democracy?
Oh, wait, you are “implying” that the country is Afghanistan.
Well,
Perhaps because the leadership of that country helped to fund, train, and give shelter to Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, who are our sworn foes who attacked us and killed roughly 3,000 people on American soil in a terrorist attack on a CIVILIAN target?
Perhaps because the nation is run by kleptocratic, theocratic, and tyrannical goons who have repeatedly declared Holy War on ourselves and the entire West?
Perhaps because there was a chance of apprehending the man directly responsible for an attack on us who was hiding their with the regime’s approval?
Pick one or more of the above.
“Nor ONE Afghani was ionvolved in the plot to murder 3000 Americans”
That depends on what you define as the “plot” persee, and whether or not “ionvolved” has a different meaning from “involved.”
Perhaps you are (in a VERY narrow sense) correct that not a single Afghani held council with Bin Laden or Atta on the exact stratagems to employ on the attack.
And if “ionvolved” is defined as “To play the Spanish fiddle in a Portuguese musical,” then I could easily see how no Afghani was “ionvolved” in the plot.
But I am guessing that, somehow, “ionvolved” means the same thing as “involved.”
In which case, that is a VERY narrow definition of “involved.”
The fact is that the Taliban gave aid, food, and training to the September 11th hijackers, that they helped funnel money and material to them, and that they have a long and distinguished history with the head of the organization that did the plot: Osama Bin Laden.
So, in short, SEVERAL DOZEN Afghanis tied to the Regime AT LEAST were involved with the plot DIRECTLY (and I am not counting those who must have been indirectly involved with the plot).
Hell, that’s better justification then we EVER had for going after the Vichy regime!
But somehow, the fact that no Afghani was “Ionvolved” by playing the Cello to the Portuguese adaptation of Figaro’s Wedding somehow invalidates the casus belli.
Perhaps you are a bit too passionate about the opera if you think THAT overrides diplomatic and political realities?
“Why are you cheerleading like some cowardly chickenhawk for more collateral damage that you know will occur.”
Firstoff, how do you know what a Cowardly Chickenhawk looks like cheerleading? Surely their wings are difficult to fit into Pompon? Which brings me to my next question: how do you know WHEN a Cowardly Chickenhawk is cheerleading? Surely they have too much stage fright to do it in the presence of others? and even more so, is there a difference in cheerleading when a Cooper’s Hawk does it from when a Sharp-Shinned Hawk or a Red-Tailed Hawk does it?
The inquiring minds of the next generation of great Ornithologists wish to know!
In addition. as for the idea of any of us cheering for more collateral damage, I doubt ANY of us would. But the fact is that, even in the cleanest of wars against a somewhat restrained or honorable foe, these things are inevitable. And we are NOT fighting a restrained or noble foe. But that we recognize this fact and encourage the mission does not mean we relish it, but that we grimly accept it as the cost each generation has paid to live in Freedom and to spread freedom.
Apparently, that concept is beyond you.
“More innocent men, women and children will die in Afghanistan.”
For ONCE, you are right. And it is something that sincerely troubles me. However, what you fail to notice is that these poor souls will fall in far greater numbers to our ruthless and unjust foes then to us, and that they already HAD been perishing by the thousands for YEARS BEFORE the invasion, due to the Taliban’s theocratic rule.
And yet you claim that this somehow discredits us?
“Explain that to me. Do you support invading Pakistan as well”
If the time comes that Pakistan becomes a clear and present threat to the West, to America, and to our Freedoms either directly or through aid to those that are, then yes I would.
“setting the Muslim world aflame”
If that is what must be done, then let it be done. But I sincerely hope it does not require that.
“Before you start call others a LIAR”
Too late, Arsehat.
“defend your war mongering”
Already have.
“chickenhawk”
Since I am neither a bird nor someone unfamiliar with the rigors of conflict, I get the impression you are talking about someone else.
The fact is that you have made yourself to look like a ranting, raving idiot who has no grasp of the realities on the ground.
And the fact that you make TERRY look saner shows how badly you are doing in convincing everyone.
(And don’t worry Terry, It’ll be your turn soon enough).
Since when do moonbats need proof?
In today’s climate of insanity, allegations are given the same weight as evidence.
Okay … I’m trying this again … Without the “cussage” to see if it takes … Please forgive if my previous comment shows up after I post this one:
I am acquainted with Sgt. Welsh and other fine and brave and selfless young men who have served this nation in our military before and since 9-11-01.
About a year ago a young man (an Army Ranger) who was a childhood friend of my son-in-law was killed in Iraq by a filthy terrorist’s sniper bullet.
A couple years before that, another of his childhood friends a Marine, lost his leg to a filthy terrorist’s mortar shell fired into their housing facility as he slept. Ironic how that Marine says he can sleep comfortably with the loss of his leg to a dirty b*stard enemy rat, yet, it’s the bullsh*t attempts to wound and injure and emotionally kill our troops here at home by the very people he and the other servicemen have given all to protect that causes the greatest restlessness.
I have several other young Marines (and Soldiers) I know and love and admire that have served this country since signing up AFTER 9-11-01, and AFTER the initial Iraq invasion … and have served multiple tours in country, one nearly losing his life on his second tour … only to request, post-healing, to be sent back.
I have also become friends of the families of these fine men and women, some of which have lost their loved ones in war. Their understanding and sacrifice leaves me in complete awe, and envy for that level of spirit and strength.
These men, and women, have done nothing wrong. They, if anything, have put their own safety and lives in second or third consideration in order to NOT insult or harm (a kinder, gentler, more compassionate war) the ‘innocents’ in Iraq (and Afghanistan) … Had they fought this war the way war was intended to be fought, the ‘collateral damage and lost lives’ would be countless. Historically it is one of the lowest … if not the lowest loss of lives, military and civilian, with far less destruction than could ever have been hoped for.
The democrats and the MSM (AND Hollywood) in this country have not bothered to use that ‘consideration’ when negatively reporting on, making asinine statements on the Floor(s) of our Congress, and in agenda-driven and hastily fictionalized depictions in film. No one is more bloodstained than you people … with the blood of our troops and the blood of innocent Iraqis. Your bullsh*t caused this war to go on longer and deadlier than need be.
As an American I can never begin to repay the men such as Sgt. Welsh, Sgt. Dan B****n, Sgt. Jason G*****, Cpl. Bennie D****n, Sgt. Carl D****s, “Smitty”, “T-Bagg”, “Iggy”, Pvt. Wilson, and all the rest of the young men who put aside their freedom to be young and carefree … and careless … in order to serve a higher calling … to voluntarily put their very lives on the line for a country they believe is worth sacrificing for … to recognize and believe in something bigger and greater than themselves.
And it sickens me to know that they cannot even put their heads down on a pillow at night to rest peacefully in the freedom they themselves have fought and bled to preserve … simply because people so much smaller than themselves … people they also defended … have a mental disorder and inability to “handle the truth”, and instead, in the safety and freedom of their own fabricated comfort zones, slander, demean and defile men who have continued to provide and protect that decadent luxury they afford themselves from afar.
In the last eight years I have come to realize the core source for all this sh*t-slinging on our troops comes from the individual sh*t-slinger’s jealousy upon recognizing they aren’t even worthy to shine the boots of these men. They lack the intestinal and testicular fortitude to actually make the decision to face evil and danger for a concrete cause greater than to recycle or not to recycle that damn aluminum can.
And finally, it REALLY irks me … no, it f**kin’ pisses me off, that Sgt. Welsh even had to write this piece.
Those who malign him and our military are the same damn dumb-f*ck-ups that insist that child rapists, or murderers “served their time and paid their debts to society” and should be left alone to live wherever without warning signs to the community … and believe that those f*cking human sh*t-stains sitting fat on the American hog in Camp Gitmo are worthy of kindness, consideration and compassion.
These brave, selfless men (and women) HAVE served their time and paid their ‘debt’ to this country’s freedom and liberty so YOU can pursue your mindless and selfish happiness, at their expense … physically and emotionally.
And P.S.
The fact that Hollywood’s movies in the last eight years depicting these men in the war have fallen headfirst into the rotting sh*tter is proof that Hollywood and the limo-lib left in this country LOST the war.
Welsh, THEY sleep safe and well at night because YOU and your brothers did/do the damn hard work to make sure they can.
Ya did good, Sgt. Welsh … Ya did f***in’ DAMN good. You beat the enemy, and you beat Hollywood, the MSm, and the democrats! Put your head down on the pillow and take a long and peaceful nap. You earned it, you deserve it. And you know me, as I always say: F*** `Em!
Hey, Welsh … Thanks, sweetie. I owe ya a few beers.
Maggie
Lola,
I couldn’t be clearer about my objection to the video. Not a single soul has argued that I was wrong in my assumption (the video was about Afghanistan, not Iraq). That’s it. That’s the point I wished to make. And yet time and time again, you make false accusations, empty boasts, emptier threats, and in the name of what?
I get it. Firing verbal bullets at anything that moves makes you feel like Ann Coulter. The uglier and more vicious you can be? The brighter the sun shines inside your head. It’s a weird way to engage with the world. But hey. Everybody has their reasons.
So let’s make a deal. From this point on, I’m going to pretend you’re invisible. Like a bad stink. I would suggest that you do the same. And we can both stop wasting each other’s time. I know I have better things to do. As for you? I guess we’ll find out.
