Lonewolf Diaries: If You Don’t Like Public Gay Sex, You Must be Gay!
by Steven CrowderIt’s an argument that we hear used all too-commonly nowadays; If you’re not a fan of public sexual vulgarity, particularly of the homosexual variety, you must be a bigot. And of course the only reason one would be a bigot is clearly due to one’s secret attraction to members of the same sex. Flawless logic, is it not? It’s one of those arguments that’s used so often that we’ve become desensitized to it. Am I the only one who feels like the rules keep fudging as we go along?

We all know about the Adam Lambert fiasco. Most of us also know that the make-up caked crooner has been complaining of being held to a “different standard” due to his sexuality. Many Americans have publicly disagreed and stated that it was his distasteful, sexually charged performance (coupled with crappy vocals and a hairdo that many consider to be a fire-hazard) that landed him in hot water.
They’re both right. The truth is, that Adam Lambert hasn’t been put in water even close to resembling the boiling kettle that he richly deserves. If a straight man were to forcibly push a lady-dancers face into his crotch in an “impromptu” fashion as Lambert claims he had done… The man would be incarcerated.
For crying out loud, I got double yellow-cards in my office for calling a dame “sweetheart.” Do you honestly think that I could get away with simulating face-rape in the workplace if my subordinates didn’t sign up for it? In saying that however, to many people it would become clear that I’ve come out of the closet.
Yes folks, haven’t you heard? If you criticize somebody who happens to be a homosexual, you are doing so only because you yourself, are indeed a homosexual. There’s no way around it.
Gay “progressives” touting these arguments are what my extremely gay (and extremely lovable) friend Trevor explains as the “Gaystapo.” Much like using the “racism” card when dealing with Barack Obama dissidents, the whole “you’re a secret-homosexual” argument is a way of ending the discussion before it even begins. Afterall, what kind of self-respecting straight male would want to be accused of engaging in bedroom tomfoolery with other lads?
Liberals, the truth is that most of us don’t really care if you think we’re gay. It’s not that big of an insult. As a matter of fact, it’s more of an insult to your own argument, seeing as you’re threatening people with falsely “outing” them of a practice that you claim to support in the first place.
We’re not secretly gay. We’re just sick of the falling standards and we’re sick of you lying to/about us when we stand up for decency. Am I the only one who feels that way?
Sean Penn, it has nothing to do with hate. I think Adam Lambert is a vulgar little pissant who’s fifteen minutes are up… And I still like the unclad ladies.
See how that works?

I don't recall Freddie Mercury simulating face rape on national tv. Maybe it happened and I forgot, or nothing like it would have been tolerated for a moment in the old days.
There's a big difference between Adam Lambert and Freddie Mercury. A little something called talent.
Crazy little thing called talent! (Lambert may be the poor man's Adam Ant…)
Freddie was also an amazing talent much missed, so there's that…
Freddie and the rest of the guys in Queen just let the music do the talking for them.
Yet another case of liberal projection. What else is new? Liberals and Lefties demean and dehumanize gays, women and minorities on a regular basis, not to mention conservatives and anyone else not of their zombie-fied mindset. Seen the Aunt Jemimah cartoon of Ohio State Senator Nina Turner? Not only is boxing promoter Don King the publisher of the rag that posted it, Turner's a Democrat!

gay acceptance was MUCH better backin the 70's than it is now…
Open minded folk were as subjected to the gay thing back then as they are now; it just wasn't politicized. And that is hurting the movement more than they know. You had the glam/bisexual thing that was huge, and no one
really minded it- much.
Today it is a gay form of facsism. You will accept MY behavior, or else we will pass laws making you do so.
That ain't the way to get along…
Steven, once again you have hit the nail on the head. People didn't dislike that spectacle because Adam is gay, they disliked it because it was completely and utterly vulgar. What happened to a little something called decency? I'm all in favor of bringing back that standard.
Freddie was a SHOWMAN in rock and roll.
Lambert is a never was.
And class. Don't forget that.
remember that line in Broadcast News where Aaron comments on how that line we all cross keeps on being moved?? adam of escondido erased the line completely. i predict that whatshisname will be singing off the strip in vegas in a couple of years.
Steven, I've got to say that I love your work. I love your columns, videos, and contributions in general. Maybe I haven't investigated too deeply into your work, but why don't you bring up a Christian perspective? I understand that to appeal to certain audiences, sometimes you have to negate the Christian belief in popular opinion, but I would love to see some Christian perspective in there. Even though there is an on-going attack on Christianity, I think as Christians we cannot fall to keeping our faith separate from our belief. And even if your opinions stem from Christian values, I would love to see you blatantly discuss your beliefs.
Tony, I cherish your lean, whip-smart prose.
I do not care who or what, two consenting adults do. What I do care about, is when I am told I must not only accept their repulsive behavior, but I must condone it. I also care about being told I must accept their "New" definition of Marriage, which has been in existence for 4000+ years. And if you disagree with me you might be a closet straight.
ditto, and i love the unclad lasses like it's nobody's business
Please refrain from using the phrase "rammed down our throats" when talking about the homosexual agenda. I don't want them to get any ideas.
Homosexual sure do hate Republicans. That must mean they secretly want to be Republicans.
Okay…Sean Penn is a sexually confused, humanly-inadequate Hollywood elitest whose idea of leadership is a Chavez-led totalinarianism that will ultimately put he, Sean Penn, in a position of leadership. Plus, he's a nitwit!
Steven, Adam Lambert knows he's an untalented hack, just like the rest of America, and so he needs to throw out the "Gay" card to get people to stand behind him and his vulgar performance. I didn't even watch, but saw the clips on the news. Funny how they spew tolerance to excess, yet hate and threaten to do terrible things to those that don't agree with their lifestyle choice.
as opposed to 'A Crazy Little Thing Called Love'?- nice pull…
what an amazing voice he had, 1st time i heard his name with all this bs going on, i must admit i am little jealous that i didn't think of him 1st (in my defense it took me 7 years to graduate "the OSU" w/a ba in communications). So, in conclusion, if you can't entertain them with talent then shock them with anything else.
I like Adam Lambert. I think he's got a voice, and a great entertainment talent potential. I wish I could be his manager to prevent disasters like the performance in question. I do wish him well and I hope he tones down the focus on his orientation and just works on making good music.
Freddie was incredible.
If I saw a male performer put a woman's face in his crotch like Lambert did, I'd be pissed. This isn't about sexual orientation, it's about decency. I'd be angry if it had been a woman, it would just have a different dynamic.

Mike in Kokomo..
Adam does not sing… He screeches, and rather badly. Adam is the sole reason why i will not be watching Idol this season… I
Secret gays are the new homophobes??? Who knew?
saw Queen in '75 on their first US tour- it was \”Sheer Heart Attack' at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago with Kansas and Mahogany Rush.
They were absolutely incredible…
I agree 150% with you Steven. I'm so sick of this gay agenda getting shoved down our throats. I mean, I'm as straight as the next person. If you're gay, then I'm gay. Glad we all came to a conclusion.
Could libs be anymore cryptic? It's like rules made by three years; they have no idea what they're talking about. Or truthfully, like most libs, the professors in colleges.
Ay yi yi, what is with all this judgment? Will it ever stop? Gosh, I hope so!
Well, I guess in the end we're all just a big lot of homophobic, racist hatemongers! Yay! or not…
-CT-
so true. oh, have i mentioned that im in love with you?
agreed. steven, you are perfectly wonderful.
Lambert, you can't sing, can't dance – what can you do? Must be something stupid.
Naked girls good. Naked guys, not so much.
Ok, wait a sec…need to make a notation of yet ANOTHER change in my "Libspeak to English Dictionary." So expressing disagreement with someone gay no longer makes you a "homophobe," now it means you are "secretly gay." Got it.
So does disagreeing with Barack Obama or Al Sharpton mean you're "secretly black" rather than "racist" now? These lib definitions change so often, it's hard to keep up…
Great point.
d, you're showing your age again.
@Right2Be: You are so right! Good for you! See, morals really aren't that old fashioned, just rare now-a-days.
-CT-
It really is sad. As someone in the theater/film arena, I get a lot of gay people who assume I'm "anti-them" the minute they find out I'm a conservative. It's kind of like when you tell people you're an English major and they assume you're going to start correcting their grammar. I respect actors/performers that are out about being gay but don't make that their "thing," like Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen Degeneres (I know, she's not exactly quiet about it, but she doesn't rub it in people's faces like Rosie O'Donnell). Why do some people feel the need to make their homosexuality the only thing that defines them? That makes me sad. No one thing defines you, and, if you let it, you're no longer an individual.
Freddie wore a dress and vacuumed whe he had a mustache. He was AWESOME. Lambert is apparently a child of this modern generation, and well on his way to becoming nothing more than a disappointment.
"We all know about the Adam Lambert fiasco."
Sadly, yes.
TO THE AUTHOR of this article:
You need to stop using terms like "dame"–youre not Humphrey Bogart and the term does not add color to your article nor make you a toughtguy. And saying you "still like the unclad ladies" and then in the next breath talk about decent morals and bemoan falling standards is hypocritical. You are using sexist language and talking about women as people you like naked. WAKE UP.!!!!! Decent morality does not include the same old wink and nod male bonding sexist language and attidudes.
Not that I know much about Freddie – listened to the music, but I was still too young to be "into it" – but I would say the difference between gays like Freddie and gays like Adam and others is that the Freddie-types know they are gay, say they are gay, but otherwise don't make a big deal out of it. I mean, even Elton John doesn't. He just is and that's it. I met a gay couple on my study abroad in Africa. Never would have known it and the one guy just absolutely LOATHED "queens" and the like because he thought they gave gays a 'bad name". He looked like a huge professional football player and dressed like a business man. Being gay was not his thing, he was a man that dated men.
That's the difference. As soon as it becomes political, it becomes obnoxious. And I'm way more socially liberal than many people that post here and I can't stand this kind of stuff (what Adam did).
Exactly – it's the same with "feminism". Sure I'm happy we can vote, go to school, become whatever we want, own property, etc. But once we got those things, shouldn't we have packed up the tent and gone home, pleased with our results? Nope, they just make up more and more stuff that we, as women, "need to have" or "have a right" to have. I just don't get it.
I agree with you in the sense that I think most Americans, even if they are conservative Christians, wouldn't much bat an eye if they found out a co-worker was gay, or a neighbor. As long as that's all it was. After all, do we all wonder about what our heterosexual neighbors are doing? Do we care? No, and we wouldn't care about homosexuals either if they just stopped shoving things in our faces – like Adam.
My problem with Adam is that in Out magazine he made a big deal about not being known as just a "gay singer" and then he goes and does an overtly sexualized gay act. And most gay people and liberals that I know are more upset with him than are supporting him.
That must have been something. It's a shame Mercury passed away. So many old bands are still touring, like the Stones and Springsteen. I wouldn't have cared that the band was old as long as I could have seen Freddie perform live.
I think you've hit it on the head. A lot of people here (though certainly not all) don't have an ax to grind against the gay community. But, at the same time, don't really want the whole in-your-face thing (no pun intended) going on. I've had a few gay friends who were on the less flamboyant side and they're just regular people like everyone else. I don't think guys like Lambert help the gay community at all.
Yeah, Freddie had a sense of humor — something notably lacking in the current crop of activists.
Lambert is talented, I just don't see Freddie Mercury kind of chops. More like Mercury meets Mariah Cary. If he wants to be remembered for more than being the gay loser on American Idol, he's going to need to get serious about his career. That nightmare he sang at the awards show definitely isn't going to land him on the road to the R&R Hall Of Fame.
gay acceptance was MUCH better backin the 70's than it is now…
Depending on where you were at the time. The Seventies were the era of Stonewall, after all.
That is just a great comment! Kudos.
I would accept it more IF it weren't forced on us and IF it wasn't on public display. Sorry but watching two guys kiss or hold hands is just icky. ((((((shiver)))))
lol..I'm a girl and even I think that way.
And NO I'm not a lezbo.
Steven is the cat's meow that's for sure. Oh darn! I did it again I showed my age again by using the cat's meow. Doh!
I started seeing the "secretly gay" thing pop up in earnest a couple of years ago. I was hanging out on a Left-leaning site that had a substantial gay/bi membership and noticed people saying matter-of-factly that EVERYONE had some homosexual tendencies. The bi folks would put down straight people by saying how much they were missing by being so close-minded.
I'd politely explain to them that staring at Robin Williams hairy back did slightly less for my libido than imagining Helen Thomas in a thong. Sorry, that doesn't make me homophobic or age-ist.
Well Ok, I have to disagree here. Actually Adam IS quite talented. I do think he's pushing the envelope a little much though and I think the reason behind it is he wants to jumpstart his career. I guess he doesn't believe that he's getting enough exposure or something.
Ya know, Liberace(sp) was gay and EVERYBODY loved him, I think because he was such a nice guy for one thing and even though he was flamboyant he didn't push the way he was on anyone. Sheesh, did my mom LOVE that guy.
just wondering why this author is so OBSESSED with this topic.
I look forward to the day when someone announces that some celebrity has come out…and the response is, "So?"
well steven, one does have to wonder why some people are SO obsessed with gay people. it may not stem from their own repressed sexual urges, but they certainly have SOME kind of issue. why would anyone care who someone else loves much less rant and rave about it ?
as for sexual displays by entertainers, i'll await your article about janet jackson grabbing a male dancer's crotch in the opening number (during the 'family hour', no less) on the very same award show… or did that go completely unnoticed ? hmmm.. wonder why that would be … ?
It has become the norm for singers, especially female singers who have lost their edge because of age or their grip on reality to appear on stage wearing bandaids or going out in public with no knickers to garner attention they would not otherwise be getting. Adam Lambert is just doing it out of the gate. He must think that his voice isn't enough.
…then how do explain the gay folks who ARE republicans ???
According to the liberal orthodoxy there are no homosexual Republicans. Just like there are no black Republicans.
The only reason I even know about Adam Lambert's existence is because he was "the gay guy" on American Idol (a show I have never and have no interest in watching).
I certainly don't know the name of whoever won AI.
And, I wouldn't know about Lambert's most recent stunt if people would simply stop talking about him.
I would like to have seen him perform live, too. Definitely miss his talent in music. There just isn't anyone else like him at all.
I have to say, he wasn't that great of a guy, though. He went into deep denial when he was diagnosed HIV positive and continued to sleep around. A lot. That might actually make him a mass murderer. I can't quite reconcile my rabid admiration for Mercury's talent with his irresponsible, dangerous actions.
The whining homosexuals claim they only want the same rights as everyone else. THAT'S A LIE, if it were true there would be no need to change the law. On top of demanding special privileges, they also want to force society to accept their disgusting, deviant life-style as normal.
There is Nothing Gay About It
http://usataxpayer.org/view.asp?Get=gaymarrage
Perversion Taught in Public Schools!
http://usataxpayer.org/view.asp?Get=schools
Lambert has some talent. He's certainly no Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, or Elton John – "gay" performers who members of any gender or sexuality can admire for their good work. But most of all, Lambert is immature, insecure and has bad judgment for pulling an over the top stunt that backfired. He should focus on letting his music do more of the talking for him and defining him.
As far as equal opportunity outrage over public sexuality, many of us did have a problem with Janet Jackson and much of what is on TV today, but let's be intellectually honest, there is an active "gay" movement pushing public obcenity further than an organized attempt by any comparable heterosexual group. Look at the Gay Hollywood parade. You all have your own examples. Good taste is keeping sexual matters private and out of the public square. It has been one of the cornerstones of civilized society. We don't like it, because its public and its vulgar. Sorry, that doesn't make us gay.
Steven writes a good article. Time for people to stand up and speak up when they are offended and tell the truth and not afraid to be called bigoted, racist, homophobic, sexist, or even "gay." The confrontation with the tyranny of political correctness is going to be the next big issue of our time. Good hearted decent Americans are sick of being name called and the left's (so far successful) attempt at debate suppressing speech tactics.
I like the word "dames." Nice touch. Let the feminist facist who posted anonymously call me a sexist. We don't care:)
Funny how people weren't upset with or threatened by Freddie Mercury in Queen's heyday. Maybe it was because he wasn't a critic's darling or an "icon" rammed down our throats.
Agree that it is inappropriate but so are a lot of things on tv. I wouldn't even know about this if not for the quasi-conservatives blogging about it. That's because I gave up watching tv nearly 10 years ago. Don't even have one (well, I do but it isn't even plugged in and is so old it has knobs on it. Probably can't do much with it since now everything is supposed to be digital.) Don't know if I agree about him getting more of a free ride because he is a sodomite (I'm not even religious but if you folks would use proper terms instead of letting THEM tell you what words to use – soft terms like "gay" which used to have innocent meaning.) I recall another incident I wouldn't have know about except for you folk's predictable outrage – the "wardrobe malfunction." Granted, that was interracial so maybe the counter-cultural hook-noses let it slide in for its perversion factor.
Mercury sang "Bohemian Rhapsody", made the Headbanger's Anthem by Wayne and Garth. Lambert sings…um, he sings…well, hell, what does he sing?
AND had a great band- Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. They all could sing, too…
I feel the same amount of physcial illness upon seeing a person violently shove another person's face into their crotch while singing into a microphone whether they are gay or straight. I don't want to have to watch a man and woman sucking face in front of me, why would I want to see a man and a man sucking face? I guess Im an equal-opportunity discriminator…at least I'M equal. My closest friend is gay and I tell her just as much as I tell my straight friends, I don't want to see making out, groping, or shoving faces in crotches. Keep it in the bedroom (where that stuff USED to be private!)
I think he's the dog's tuxedo.
Helen Thomas in a thong… (I think I'll pass on breakfast this morning).
Keriann, I'm Christian, but my opposition to things like televising the simulated facerape doesn't have much to do with my faith. If I was writing a column like Mr. Crowder's, I could dig around and find some faith-based arguments against it; and they'll probably support my gut-reaction and my more-logic based arguments. Or it might just flow out; it really all depends on mood, if the topic directly addresses religion, etc. However, going out of my way to find biblically-inspired reasoning for everything I comment on isn't how I normally think or operate, so why make the effort to write a rant that will ultimately sound/read as forced?
Based on Steven's videos and posts, I imagine he probably operates in much the same way.
Queen had talent! Don't disrespect them.
I love Queen and I think the main difference is they were about making good music, Freddie wasn't ramming his sexuality down our throat, or shoving his beliefs where the sun don't shine!
I mean really I have a hard time swallowing the load. . .of crap the gay lobby dishes out.
Okay I will stop now.
::Sings:: "Crazy little thing called love!"
Don't laugh . . .there really ARE closeted Republicans. They're in Hollywood. And just like the closeted gays of yesteryear, they remain closeted for fear of loosing their jobs. Ah— how the worm turns.
Jeeezzzssshhh! Has it really been THAT LONG since the last time you got laid?
They kick common belief out, but their belief must be accepted!!!!!!!!!!!! Absurdity speaks for itself!!!!!
Oh for crying out loud. Go back to the 1960s….PLEASE.
I'm a woman and I would rather be called a "Dame" than a "Victim".
Precisely. I don't like PDA's regardless of who the exhibitionist is. There's a time and a place for everything and I don't feel the need to share everyone's love.
After all, do we all wonder about what our heterosexual neighbors are doing? Do we care? No, and we wouldn't care about homosexuals either if they just stopped shoving things in our faces – like Adam.
Not that it's any less disgusting when heterosexuals shove it in one's face. Examples abound, from Madonna to Britney.
The simple fact is this: Ever since sexuality stopped being a taboo subject for discussion, we've had to listen to people "discussing" it at the top of their voices, so to speak. WE JUST DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT ANYMORE.
I never understood this part of the left's sexual psychology. Typical liberal: "Gays should be tolerated and celebrated. If a conservative criticizes gay people or is against gay marriage, we should call him a 'closet homo'. That will get those meanie reich-wingers to shut the hell up."
It's almost like they don't understand the idea of 'tolerance' at all.
[...] let the Big Boy at Big Hollywood explain himself before we jump to the obvious ALLEGED conclusion, okay [...]
Wow. I don't think that's true at all–there were harsher laws on the books, and being gay was listed by the AMA as a mental illness.
could be because most folks back then didn't realize mercury was gay…in fact, i've talked to people even today who don't know or "don't want to believe it." being gay and 'out' was much more difficult in the 70's than it is today. the modern american gay liberation movement was in its infancy and most gay folks still had good reason to fear being 'found out'. amusing how his songs became sports arena / headbanger anthems though… i'm sure he has a good chuckle over it in heaven.
it was true. We saw it with our own eyes. Acceptance of 'alternate lifestyles' was widespread in post-Vietnam America. It slowly started changing in the late 80's and has gone downhill since- now there's hatred on both sides.
Sad…
he was electric. Best front man in rock history- Plant included- and best voice. First song they did was 'Now I'm Here'- spot on perfection.
Went on to see them seven times…
great days they were…
you are exactly right. No one cared what they did in private, and there was an air of enlightenment missing today. The war was over, economics improved, and 'love was in the air'.
naive? maybe. But it was a time people got along better…
Doogie Howser. The guy who played "Bulldog" on Frasier. Ian McKellan. The only response beyond "hey, so and so is gay" was……"so?", wasn't it?

I love all these "tolerant" conservatives who rant against the "gay agenda," which is a barely disguised belief in having all gays stay in the closet. To say that a straight man who engaged in Adam's performance would have been judged more harshly than Adam is absurd. The poor, persecuted straight man just trying to get by in a politcally correct world run by the gay Hollywood mafia. Give me a break. What the author jokes about, every critic being a closeted gay, is in many cases exactly the truth, with a long history of anti-gay politicians to prove it. Yes, some gays sometimes overreact, but no more than half the straight people commenting on this article.
Kelly, you are a pathetic person who clearly thrives on putting down other people. Adam has more talent than you could every hope for. His "vulgar" performance was no different than Elvis's typical hip swaying or Michael Jackson's croch grabbing. Funny you should comment on someone else's hate when you can barely contain your own. Your last line about "their lifestyle choice" shows how ignorant you really are.
Exit polling shows that 27 percent of self identified gay voters voted for McCain, so you need to stop referring to the two groups as mutually exclusive. If the Reps. didn't let the homophobic preachers set the party's agenda, they'd have a whole lot more gay votes.
So true. And when you have real talent, you don't need gimmicks like on-stage sex to get attention.
Actually marriage was messed up when straight folk reduced the blessed union to a mere contract obligation in the 60's or so…You may consider fixing the mess you made before you start trying to point at someone else's mess
