by Steven CrowderI hate to say this, but it must be noted to understand the situation at hand: Black people commit more violent crime per capita than any other race. Now before you go all Johnny Cochran on me here and declare me a racist, let me just state that I am simply addressing a statistic, much like President Obama did last Wednesday. The only difference is that my statistic doesn’t fit into a politically correct agenda with an end game designed to demonize the members of our law enforcement. Do you folks out there honestly assume the worst in all cops? Does it insult you that Barack Obama assumes you do?
“There is a long history of African-Americans and Latino’s being stopped by law enforcement, disproportionately” – Barack Hussein Obama. Boy, there’s a prejudiced little statement… against cops.
Sure it may be true that more minorities in this country are pulled over or even given the once-over by our police officers… But a disproportionate amount… Really?
When you take into account that black people are over seven times more likely to commit murder or a violent crime, I think you’ve got to ask yourself, at what point do we forbid a police officer from doing his job in the name of political correctness? Shouldn’t the honorable men and women who put themselves in harms way to protect us be given the benefit of the doubt?
Do we really want to get to a point where we assume racism is at play every time a decorated officer such as Jim Crowley makes a game-time decision?
As is often the case, Mr. Crowley had to deal with a phoned-in complaint of somebody breaking and entering. When the officer showed up, the man happened to be black (as well as uncooperative). Should he have just turned around and gone home? Would that have made him a more progressive chap?
The truth is that we don’t know what was said and we don’t know how out of line Mr. Gates had truly been. What we do know is that Officer Crowley has been nothing short of an exemplary police officer throughout his career and had never displayed any racially prejudiced tendencies before. We know that Mr. Gates is a notorious racist. We also know that Crowley works a job that causes him to deal with violent, volatile perpetrators who can flip the switch at any second to put his life in immediate danger.
For crying out loud, these people get shot at! Everyday people like Officer Crowley have to deal with scum who would like nothing more than to light them up like the fourth of July. Ever see that scene in “Robocop”? Yeah, like that. After one day on the job Obama would have to change his tapered little Hugo Boss pants.
Another question… How can so many cops be “racist white men” when many of the police officers themselves are minorities (much like Crowley’s black partner who was at the scene and supports the man 100%)?
Answer me that one, Bama. Sean Penn, feel free to chime in here too, buttercup.
I shan’t lie folks, I really don’t have all of the facts to make a proper judgment call on this one… But that won’t stop me from stating my opinion anyway. Sound familiar?

I always found it disgusting how black democrats would come out at the drop of a hat at "police brutality," and then you compare whatever true cases of police brutality with the immense figures of black-on-black crime, or other targeted groups and I always ask, where's the protest against themselves?
It's not because they're black obviously, you have awesomes like Sonja Schmidt and Walter E. Williams that prove it's never the color of the skin that matters, it's the culture. It's the black dem culture.

What grates on me is how whenever an innocent black person is stopped or questioned, they blame it on 'racial profiling'. Usually it's just good police work. If the cops were told to look for an overweight short white fat guy who just committed multiple murders, I doubt Kevin James would claim he were 'profiled' if he were in the area and were briefly detained for questioning.
It sucks being bothered by the cops. And we all get mad about it. But you don't have a greater right to not be stopped or to get more mad than usual just because you imagine some racial insult in normal police procedure.

I think after the Gates/Crowley meeting with Obama maybe Obama should give a speech on how the police in this nation should handle a call of a possible break in call.
I think it may go like this: Officer comes to the door sees that the door is jared open knocks and a person comes to the door says too the Officer I live here would you please leave. Officer says thank you and then turns around and leaves.

Now, BHO has to put the full court press on BarryCare. Why? Two strikes against him in six months. First , the “stimulus” that stimulated nothing. In the middle of the debate to control, not only the lives, but the possibly the death of the citizens of this nation, BHO and the Dems are ramming this awful plan down our throats. Well, sadly there is truth to both sides. White Americans created this problem by stealth segregation and economic class warfare. When you pile people into ghettos and make sure they can't get any work they tend to find things to do. The flip side of the coin is they need to stop killing each other and committing crimes but in order for that to happen we are going to have to help them out. Someone has got to make the first move and since we are holding all the cards that would have to be us. (I am a white American by the way)
I've been stopped by the police numerous…three times for speeding, once for running a red light, and three times for expired tags. I drove away from each without a single citation.
Maybe it's because I'm the right color. Or maybe it's also because I show respect and take responsibility for my actions. Another thing I do is keep both hands on the wheel in plain sight and let the officer know what I'm doing–"My license? It's in my back pocket…I'm going to reach for that now, sir." I have a feeling most of them like that.
There was only one time I was stopped for nothing and that was when a buddy and I were out on a late night video store run. We got pulled by a couple of state troopers who wanted to search the vehicle. Sure thing. Heck, we even sat there and chatted it up with them for the duration. After less than five minutes, they realized we were cool and left. A slight pain in the butt, but overall no big deal. Looking back, I can understand why they pulled us over–my buddy's car was loaded with college fraternity bumper stickers. They probably though it was the second coming of Animal House.
this kind of shallow evaluation has, for generations, perpetuated the myth that COLOR is the determining factor in behavior. with this kind of thinking, it's sooooo very easy to reinforce the hegemony stereotyping that often leads to the kinds of discriminatory legislation that plagued this nation for the bulk part of it's history.
it's ain't about color. it's about MONEY. POOR people commit violent crimes, and people of color are disproportionately poor in this country. there are many, many reasons for this, and we could go round and round here, and since i'm a lefty, i'm sure i would run into much disagreement on WHY there is such wealth disparity. one thing i think we CAN agree on is that children, whatever their color, who have good schools with proper infrastructure, skilled teachers, modern resources, after-school programs, comprehensive meal programs…. are far less likely to grow up to become the kinds of people who commit these violent crimes. with that in mind, and since i'm sure that words like affirmative action are anathema here, could we agree that if we would put a bit more into these kid's educations (for these kids are not responsible for who their parents are), we might see less of the crimes that cause foolish articles like this to be written?

I was recently stopped for failure to signal a lane change (I'd not changed lanes for 50 miles) at 2:30 a.m. in Salina, Kansas. The cop harassed me for 45 minutes searching my car. I was pulling a Waverunner and returning from Colorado after dropping my family off at DIA. I'm a physician. I was unfailingly polite and deferential to no avail whatsoever.
I was carrying a .22 caliber rifle and handgun which I reported to the cop after he searched the passenger compartment. Neither were loaded and both were in the trunk. There must have been something about me that triggered such an aggressive search on the part of the cop. There is no doubt in my mind had I not been completely cooperative I would have been hauled down to the hoosegow.
Now, I'm a white nearly 60 year old man. I could bellyache till the cows come home, but that's not going to help a damn thing. Bottom line: The cops have the upper hand – PERIOD. You must comply with their orders dozily or they can make your life miserable.
Gates was spoiling for a fight. I suspect he was boozing and was more that a little tipsy.

How about teaching young people not commit crime then there won't be 'racial profiling'. Ever wonder why Asians are not 'racially profiled' in police situations? Because the majority of their parents teach them to be respectful and not do crime. They teach them to get an education. The 'teachable moment' would be to Black men to raise their children and not abandon them. To teach them that crime only makes your community look bad and causes problems for others of your community. Instead Gates and Obama want to punish those who have to deal with the responsibility that leaders in the Black community have not dealt with, and that is high number of Black males committing crime for their numbers.
Before people try to scream racism I will tell you this. I am a person of color myself and live in a place with high crime and see it first hand. The absence of a responsible male or even female influence will determine if a child will do crime or not. If there is no strong influence or a BAD influence then that is when you have a high degree of criminal behavior.
So Obama/Gates this IS a teachable moment….teach the youth that being a "gangsta", "G", and a "thug"is NOT cool and that it is the cause of "racial profiling".

Why, in the Depression and many years of real racism and segregation, there wasn't the black crime rate we see today? After MLK's loss, the hateful wing of the Civil Rights movement, headed by Louis Farrakhan and Jesse Jackson, took over. These are the people that have destroyed the black family, kept a disproportionate number of their followers in poverty, and enriched themselves in the process. Start thinking independently, and stop blindly following these people. We have been waiting for the time when we all “will be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.” Compare what blacks have suffered with what Jews have suffered. Now, compare how Jews have responded with how blacks have responded. What gets results, anger or determination?
The person who said "this is about being poor not about color". Many Asians and a lot of Latinos come here and are broke as heck, without a pot to pee in, yet they don't commit crimes.
The majority of the world is poor. I have gone to places where there is poverty you could not find in the U.S., but there are no bars on the windows, they don't lock their doors and don't have to worry of being robbed.
It is what is being taught that causes crime in poor communities that being a "Gangsta" is cool. That being a criminal is OK and that it is cool to be a "thug". If you haven't seen that you must be blind.
Obama and Gates should come out and instead of attacking those who have to deal with this, the police and the courts, but address those who are creating the "Gangsta" chic that is out there. That is the music industry and, yes Hollywood who make those movies and hire Thug Rappers to be stars.
I remember an episode of ER where a murder took place and two black doctors were pulled over. They hemmed and hawed about racial profiling and you're supposed to be really mad.
But what I noticed was the getaway vehicle was described as a new, gold-colored SUV and guess what the doctors were driving to work in? A new, gold-colored SUV. Can you racially profile cars?

Two indisputable points: Some of the absolutely worst minority school districts spend the most money per pupil. Point two: I've been in districts that have a fraction of the money to spend, but do just fine. The difference is not money or colour. The difference is two married parents. Before the great society made black male head of households redundant, black and white illegitmacy rates were very similar.
That being said how shall we proceed to save the poor minority children, forced sterilization to prevent more of the same or taking the children away and raising them in clean, efficient, state run orphanages away from the ghetto?

Then to the person who wrote "whites created segregated ghettos". That might have been the situation many years ago. Today many people move to neighborhoods they can afford so that is not true anymore.
Take Asians for example. Decades ago Asians were segregated to their own communities like many people of color, yet with hard work and by following the rules they moved up quickly and now live anywhere they want BECAUSE THEY CAN AFFORD IT.
You will find many affluent Latinos and Blacks living in wealthy white neighborhoods so that argument is moot. But crime travels. Prof. Gates lived in a middle class neighborhood but Gates admits himself that his home had been broken into before. So the neighbor and a person on her way to work was acting like a "neighborhood watch" when she someone trying to force their way into a house. That is why the police were called because of previous break ins.
Then when the police arrived Prof. Gates put on his "victim" tin foil hat and cried and screamed racism instead of thanking the officer and the neighbor for being good citizens and watching out for the neighborhood.
Jim, the only thing we agree on is Gates is a Harvard Professor.

I heard that the majority of serial killers are white males. Now, I wouldn't want a likely suspect who was, say, Filipino to be overlooked – wait, sorry, Asians don't have victim status anymore, do they? Okay, um, let's say a female of any race. I wouldn't want her to be overlooked because serial killers are usually white males. But if the news says there's a serial killer of unknown race/gender out there and a white dude comes to my house and says he's with, I dunno, Sears, and wants to check the seals on my windows, I'm gonna be a little more creeped out than if he were any other race/gender (the others would be more likely to be regular robbers, or to work for Sears).
And if I'm a white cop arresting a minority person who has victim status, I'm gonna be more likely to expect to be called a racist.

I'm a cop (15 years and still chugging) and I have been in Sgt Crowley's shoes before. Even though, of course, my incident wasn't on the top of DRUDGE, it was still a stressful experience and one that I hope no LEO has to endure.

I disagree. Prior to LBJ's "Great Society", black families were whole and largely self-sufficient. We've "helped" so much that today, Black America has a 75% out of wedlock birth rate and a huge majority are on welfare. If we "help" any more, they're really going to be screwed. The only people that can help now are the people themselves. They need more Bill Cosbys and fewer Al Sharptons.

Saying "it's about MONEY" is both redundant and stupid. Poverty is not caused by lack of money–that's the outcome of making stupid choices in a system that rewards and enables stupid behavior.
The numbers don't lie: Black-on-white assaults are 9:1 over white-on black assaults. And the disproportionate number of black assault victims are black. Poor neighborhoods are poor because of the hgh crime which keeps out businesses and drives away anyone with the assets to pick up and get out.
BTW, the people keeping poor children out of good schools are liberals like Obama and Gates, who send their own children to the private schools they deny poor children the choice to attend.

I live in one the Liberalests cities in one of the Bluest states.
Africaqn-Americans make up only 13 percent of the population, but has a population of 17 percent Asian and 24 percent Latino. Whites in my city are the most liberal around and Obama won overwhelmingly in our city and county.
We have a black mayor and were voted one of the most integrated cities in the United States.
Over the weekend there were 4 robberies and a shooting in my city in different locations by different criminals.
In each robbery and shooting the description was:
Black male
age 18-24

You know, I think this is one way they keep the racial tension in this country going. Convince both black and white that the white people hold all the cards and the blacks need their help. It's a perpetual culture of guilt and entitlement. Some black people have bigger obstacles to get around than some white people, no denying that, but the reverse is true as well. While not making light of those obstacles, blacks are just as capable of rising above adversity as any other race, and history proves it. I think it's pretty arrogant to think white people hold all the cards.

Quite right Dan. Research has shown that the single factor which tracks criminality, controlled and uncontrolled for race, income, you name it- is being born out of wedlock.
And in fact the welfare system has largely created that problem.. One st6udy found that a 50% increase in AFDC and food stamps resulted in a 43% increase in illegitimate births.

Well, actually that probably is true looking at the outcome of the case. The "fine upstanding black citizen" got the charges dropped, and is having a beer with Osama. And the police officer may get to have a beer with them. Of course, I think I know who will be stopped by the DC cops and made to take a breathalyzer after that "party". And it ain't Gates or Osama.
And accurate. "Law Enforcement" has largely brought this upon themselves.

So those laws that lasted until the mid 60s that forbade blacks from going into white restaurants or living in white neighborhoods or drinking from white water fountains were just signs of a happy peaceful paradise until those nasty Marxists made everyone think this was bad?
If an innocent man is questioned by the police it's good police work? I'd think questioning or stopping the guilty one — even if he's not black — would be good police work.
And best of all, they weren't allowed in any white institutions, so you never had to see any of them. That's racial harmony, Big Hollywood style!
And what was Gates' crime? Being in his own home? Being uppity to a white man? Or being a black man who has achieved financial success and respect?

Cops question innocent people all the time. Usually they are the ones who turn in the bad guys.

"WE" don't hold all the cards. This is still America and anyone who really tries can do very well regardless of race or background. "WE" have been "helping" "them" for many years. But money for nothing never did anybody any good. It's up to every American to make his or her own way in this country- with the help of our laws and constitution which are a really good starting point for anyone. Notice the constant influx of immigrants who consider it a privilege to even be here! If my family had been in America for a few generations what possible excuse could I have for not having made a decent life for myself? My race? Come on.
Shortly after highschool, I was with a friend at a softball tournament, out of state. His girlfriend was in the same city so I made myself scarce for about an hour. While I was out walking, about 11 pm, I was stopped by two police officers. At first, I didn't think much of it, then I noticed one of the police officers was holding both hands in front of him and behind the car door. I realized he had his gun drawn! I had been quite polite to that point and I was the model of cooperation after that!
Turned out there had been an armed robbery in the area and they called in my description, which did not match the witness's description. I wasn't upset about them stopping me, they were just doing their job. I wasn't really upset about the drawn gun, I thought that if I was polite and cooperative there would be no problem. I just wanted to convince them that I was of no interest so they resume looking for the real criminal. I just cannot see any circumstance where antagonizing a police officer is ever a good idea.
How do you think they get to the guilty guy? They generally have to go through innocent people first. If you watched any investigative law enforcement show, you'd know that.

We can only help them if they decide to help themselves. Unfortunately, too many of them believe as you do that they're busy being oppressed and therefore can't get ahead. So long as that mentality stays in place, no amount of anything done will help them.
And when you give parents the choice in which schools they send their children to, I might believe you were serious. But while the public school system stays in place trapping poor children in failing inner city schools despite the ever-increasing amount of Federal dollers spent per pupil, we'll never make any headway.

The problem is that nothing will ever change as long as politics plays a roll in the school system. The perfect example is the Chicago School System. Politicians and the Teachers Unions run the district, and it shows. It is the poster child for what not to do when running a school district or teaching children. Kind of ironic that Obama placed someone from that very flawed school system in the Dept. of Education………………………….Just sayin'

Recently? Were you driving on the left side of the highway for a long time while not passing other cars? They just changed the law so that you can be pulled over and ticketed for that in Kansas.
