Wow…some great and interesting comments on embryonic stem cell research. I learned a lot that I didn't know. For me, the one thing I did know, is that type of research has been around a heck of a lot longer than adult stem cell and has yielded nothing. At what point in time do we cut our losses and stop flushing money down the toilet?

thanks for the correction. I forgot to include this information. Though personally I do not think of federal funding or the lack thereof to be stopping promissing research in any way (unless of course one considers the strings that often come with federal funding).

embryotic stem cells have proven to cause cancer in labs and in a case where the therapy was actually used on a yourng boy, he later developed tumors all over his body. However, adult stem cells (even one's own ) have been used successfully. Why not put our money into what works, is easily available and doesn't have the moral debate??

Heh, "escape therapy." Winner of the Unintended Humor award for this topic. Escape the ethics, escape the morality, escape the research to actually fix bad cells instead of merely replacing them, all to try for a quick escape from suffering, while allowing it to escape their notice that their immune systems will reject these foreign cells without heavy-duty suppression drugs for the rest of their lives, which they cannot escape.

Oh, material from abortions would likely not be used, they could mix up what they need in the lab. Although there are clinics in the world playing off the desperation by making "stem cell" cocktails from the pre-born, and apparently sometimes the newly post-born. Feel free to vomit now.

Speaking of disingenuous, there always was federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, it was limited to certain cell lines. See my reply to Darkwolf, 63% of the worldwide academic funding for embryonic stem cell research and development came from the federal government. Surprise, the propaganda machine lied to you and you believed it.
