Embryonic Stem Cell FUN! (Crazy Pete Returns)
by Steven CrowderI know that embryonic stem cell research can be a touchy subject, so I opted to handle this one with both sensitivity and tact. Those are just the ABC’s of me. However, the truth of the matter is that our “opinions” on the subject don’t really matter. Embryonic stem cell research has never gone very well and few people have shown an interest in investing in it. Logically, that alone should make it an open and shut case…
… But who needs logic when you’ve got big Government, right?

Can't say I agree, But I would defend to the death your right to think this way.
What is so hard about agreeing with the truth?
I know this is about stem cell, but I think abortion is a bigger issue. And nobody in there right mind on either side should want abortions to take place. As an aspiring Buddhist, my leftish not caring attitude has changed. It sickens me really.
I've mentioned it before, but it's relevant to repeat. Dr. Oz commented on embryonic stem cell research on Oprah, stating,
"Now I’m going to say something that’s going to be a bit provocative…. I think the stem cell debate is dead… The problem with embryonic stem cells is that embryonic stem cells come from embryos, and those stem cells can can become any cell in the body, but it’s very hard to control, and they can become cancerous. …"
I'll try to link to the video HERE.
Interesting that the MSM didn't report on this huh? Oprah has a huge audience and if Dr. Oz had said something in support of embryonic stem cell research, you can bet it would have been all over the place.
Yea, if what this young man says is true, I agree.
Hope you don't mind, I keep reposting your videos on my blog. Not that you should mind the extra exposure.
You're absolutely right about wasting taxpayer money on something that shows so little promise on its return. And abortion mills turned into embryo stores is just disgusting.
"I know this is about stem cell, but I think abortion is a bigger issue."
Abortion ties in directly with "embryonic" stem cells.
" either side should want abortions to take place."
"should want"… really?
[...] Embryonic Stem Cell FUN! (Crazy Pete Returns) by Steven Crowder [...]
meant "shouldn't" damn it
Whenever theMSM reports on a breakthrough or significant progress in treating diseases or conditions with stem cells, the MSM always emphasizes the words 'stem cells', but they neglect that these stem cells are adult ones. This keeps the myth alive that embryonic stem cell research is making progress and reducing any government funding is killing old people and children. The truth is that embyonic stem cell research is a means of normalizing the idea that embryos are just product and not actual living things. It's also big money to universities whose faculty and administrations contribute heavily to Dem party candidates and help endoctrinate students into the pro-abortion ideology.
"nobody in there right mind on either side should want abortions to take place."
Nice presentation but your premise is seriously flawed. Research that doesn't result in a patent is of no interest to investors. It is precisely that research that has been the most helpful to mankind. If all scientific research was dependent on venture capital investment we would live in a far different world. Without government funding research we wouldn't have a lot things we take for granted for example the internet. The patentable research comes after the pure science research that only the government has the means and desire to fund.
Internet: result of Military funding, something you democrats love to cut back on.
I know this might be news to you but the military is part of the government. Funding it is part (a big part) of government spending. Here is another bit of news for you the military does not belong to the republican party. When will you republicans quit hiding behind the military? They are just not that into you.
As usual Steven is right on the money….
Quick story! I have an 11 year old dog who has had multiple knee surgeries. He has plates in both knees which has caused moderate arthritis in both legs. The dog is very happy and get's around fine but has to take pain medication. I don't want to keep him on painkillers (long term health issues?) so his Vet has suggested stem cell treatments. My first reaction was "You use human stem cell's for dog's?" Nope!
What they do is take fatty tissue from the dog and lab grow the stem cells for treatment (actually there's a little more to it than that). The success rate is over 85%.
I asked the Vet what she thought about embryonic stem cell's. She believes it's a "Dead End". The new stem cell treatments, such as the one for my dog, is where the future "Human" treatments will come from.
Long story short…..Obama is backing the wrong play……..
Another hit on targert Mr. Crowder.
I would like to add, though, that in no way in the past eight (8) years has embryonic stem cell research EVER been banned or made ilegal. Only federal funding of said researched was banned. As you inferred, should said research have proven promissing, there would be private investors lining up to cash in.
It is Political correct to back embryonic stem cell research. The News readers at CBS, NBC, ABC and most Newspapers will say what a great person you are. The abortion providers can make additional money.
Democratic party wants and needs the population to be ignorant as to value of EMBRYONIC stem cell research , so they can get elected. of course they always have " class envy" and " Business is bad " .
The real slogan of Democratic party should be "HATE and INGNORANTS will set you free "
The old saying: Follow the Money!
The Pet Rock will prevail in the end. Down with Crazy Peat's Stem Cell Bonanza!!
Great vid…
But a couple important questions…
1) Why do you have a baby blue tux jacket with black vinyl (leather?) collar?
2) And can you please beat who ever put that hidious thing in your wardrobe?
Granted it could be worse.. It could be a gold silk jacket with red velvet trim like I once had… God my parents have a lot to answer for…
I share these on Facebook, and get lots of great comments. It's a good way to get the word out.
I watched the video and found it to be typical Republican voodoo thinking… ::Yawn::
When will you do something halfways intelligent and entertaining? Oh, never. You're Republicans.
When will you respond with a logical point? Oh never. You're a liberal.
Big talk is just talk. Convince me that Crowder's main points (i.e. embryonic stem cells do not have a "cure" rate higher than adult stem cells, Federal tax funding for embryonic stem cell research deserves to be debated and voted upon by the people, etc) are wrong.
Until then your comments are baseless and cowardly.
Nothing wrong with an embed/link to Crowder video… The more the better!
Except for one thing: government funded research is hardly "pure" these days. Where are the government funded studies for science exploring the natural side of climate change … you know the non-manmade side? And when even the original proponents of embryonic stem cell research have come out publically and said that adult stem cells are far more promising while embryonic stem cells are basically a dead end, where is the merit in continuing fund studies one them? The simple fact of the matter is that we don't know the processes by which embryonic stem cells can be turned off, and we are unlikely to ever know those without conducting invasive and unethical studies of a pregnancy in utero.
Awww! To the death, really? Is that a promise?
All ad hominem; no substance. Point Crowder.
You're ignoring Bartek's point because you know you're in trouble: The military is typically the government agency for which Democrats have historically cut funding. The Democrat-controlled Congress cut military funding almost in half as measured by percentage of GDP between 1970 and 1979.Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress of 2009 are demanding military funding cuts of $55 billion for FY10–most of which go to researching new defense' systems.
Using your logic, we should fund purely scientific research through tax dollars but privatize the American security forces… which is not an option since you despise private security firms such as Black Water.
So stop projecting your own flawed logic on Crowder's video and admit you've failed at this argument.
Crowder's the man, and dead sexy.
Happy birthday Steve.
If Mr. Crowder gets the Republican nomination in 2012 (and I feel he should,) I can't wait to see how well he does when he debates Obama.
Don't you mean their?
>>>>>>>>>>>>RUNS
Sweet geebus guy, quit embarassing yourself!
YES
I'm no scientist, BUT… isn't it kind of disingenuous to put such emphasis on the fact that adult stem-cell research is so much farther along when part of the reason for that is that the OTHER kind has been funded dramatically less for the past eight years?
I know thisis a serious issue but I was seriously cracking up over the Yeeehaw and the redneck dance.
So you're saying that private companies won't invest in promising (read: lucrative) new technology unless they get money from the government?
ESC research is no different from abortion or euthanasia: All seek to kill people because they're inconvenient / expensive / their parts are profitable.
Which leads us to situations like the following:
Ukraine babies in stem cell probe
"Healthy new-born babies may have been killed in Ukraine to feed a flourishing international trade in stem cells, evidence obtained by the BBC suggests."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6171083.stm
"The patentable research comes after the pure science research that only the government has the means and desire to fund."
Balderdash. Did you find that nostrum in a fortune cookie?
Research that doesn't result in successful outcomes is lousy investment and even lousier science. After 15 years of promising us miraculous cures, ESC research continues to produce nothing except even more extravagant promises–always 5 to 10 years away, of course–and lots of dead lab rats.
ESCR is immoral–embryos have to bekilled to obtain them.
ESCR is unneccessary–Stem cells can now be easily obtained from skin and fat cells.
ESCR is dangerous–transplanting tissues from ESC's requires immonosuppresants to suppress the recipient's immune system. In addition, ESC tissue is unstable, resulting in growth of terratomas at the transplant site.
Funding ESCR is The One's payback to the abortion lobby and NOW, for whom abortion is a sacrament.
Sorry, but the propaganda machine has gotten to you, federal funding was still there, you can read about it here:
Although the U.S. government is the funding source for 63 percent of academic research and development, federal funds can only be used for studies on a small number of stem cell lines produced before August 9, 2001. As a result, much research in this area in the U.S. is done either with state money or private money.
The US government was putting out 63% of the worldwide funding for academic embryonic stem cell research and development at the time of this June 2008 article, while you-know-who was in office. Hardly seems to be the life-threatening total ban that frequently gets mentioned.
Again, I'm given to consider that this is a false dynamic. One of these two technologies has had access to both government funding AND private funding, the other has only had private. Thus, that the doubly-funded one is further along is not really proof of anything – INCLUDING proof of it's promise or profit-potential.
Gosh, if paying taxes is patriotic, it makes me wonder, if ESC therapy ever became the norm, would getting abortions humanitarian?
Speaking of disingenuous, there always was federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, it was limited to certain cell lines. See my reply to Darkwolf, 63% of the worldwide academic funding for embryonic stem cell research and development came from the federal government. Surprise, the propaganda machine lied to you and you believed it.
Heh, "escape therapy." Winner of the Unintended Humor award for this topic. Escape the ethics, escape the morality, escape the research to actually fix bad cells instead of merely replacing them, all to try for a quick escape from suffering, while allowing it to escape their notice that their immune systems will reject these foreign cells without heavy-duty suppression drugs for the rest of their lives, which they cannot escape.
Oh, material from abortions would likely not be used, they could mix up what they need in the lab. Although there are clinics in the world playing off the desperation by making "stem cell" cocktails from the pre-born, and apparently sometimes the newly post-born. Feel free to vomit now.
Man! I wish I'd done that on purpose.
And something keeps making the reply counter indicate "active less than 1 minute ago" so I am posting this to see what happens.
Eh, I think it broke.
What about To The Pain?
Working now, took it long enough.
embryotic stem cells have proven to cause cancer in labs and in a case where the therapy was actually used on a yourng boy, he later developed tumors all over his body. However, adult stem cells (even one's own ) have been used successfully. Why not put our money into what works, is easily available and doesn't have the moral debate??
thanks for the correction. I forgot to include this information. Though personally I do not think of federal funding or the lack thereof to be stopping promissing research in any way (unless of course one considers the strings that often come with federal funding).
Wow…some great and interesting comments on embryonic stem cell research. I learned a lot that I didn't know. For me, the one thing I did know, is that type of research has been around a heck of a lot longer than adult stem cell and has yielded nothing. At what point in time do we cut our losses and stop flushing money down the toilet?
