Lonewolf Diaries: All Christians are Serial Killers
by Steven CrowderI’m tired of ignoring the elephant in the room, so I’ll just come out and say it. Christians are corny, out of touch, lonely creepers who generally end up becoming murderers or rapists…. At least that’s what Hollywood’s taught me.
Not to mention they’re all a bunch of minority-bashing fear mongers. Why does anyone continue to allow this hateful, extremist group to exist? Am I the only one who feels that they could stand to learn a lot from the peaceful, Muslim folk?
If I hadn’t been raised in such a logical household, the entertainment industry would have elicited only one reaction from me in regards to “Christians”; “Good God, these people are crazy.”
It all started with the flick “Carrie.” Who can forget Sissy Spacek’s loopy, evangelical mom citing Bible verses amidst insane spiritual tirades until she was finally skewered with every kitchen utensil in the cabinet…all to a disturbing orgasmic moaning session. The scene was used to drive the point home: Christians are dangerous and nuts, but they’re great to make fun of.
Even though ripping on those of the Christian cloth is nothing new, edgy, or thought provoking, Hollywood feels the need to do it with each of their religiously overtoned talkies. It’s gotten to the point where even the completely irreverent Matt Stone of “South Park” has expressed sentiments of pulling his punches on “society’s whipping boy.” I hope you’re listening Seth McFatlane (the name is childish I’ll admit, but I accept it). The fact is, it’s been done to death.
But why is that? We’ve never seen Hollywood go after Buddhism, Hinduism, or even Islam. I’d be inclined to believe that it’s due to the first two revolving around more subjective moralities (which is cool with the 310) and the latter… well, they blow crap up. Sure Muslims are the cause of virtually all terrorism in the world today, yet the good old folks of Tinseltown go out of their way to portray them as “good people, given a bad name by extremists” (see “Babel,” “Kingdom of Heaven”). On the other hand, we’ve got Conservative Christians who are statistically far and away the most generous people on the planet (whether you’re judging by missionary work or basic tax returns) consistently being portrayed as hateful villains often using scripture to justify horrifying acts (see nearly every spiritual horror/psycho thriller movie made in the last three decades). Disregard the fact that people like my middle-class father annually give more to charity than President Obama and Joe Biden combined, because folks like Sean Penn have already boxed him in as a greedy, judgmental jackass. If people in the Sean Penn clan feel that way, then it’s got to be true!
So I ask all Christians, Agnostics, and Atheists alike: when is enough, enough? Hasn’t this beating of the dead horse (*insert John Kerry joke here*) grown tiresome? Isn’t it time to move on?
I think the time for an “anti-establishment uprising” has come… And by that, I mean it’s time for Hollywood to take a serious risk in their portrayal of modern-day Christians.
Here’s a premise for you: They’re well-meaning people with a heart for helping others. Run with it.

the Christians have been whipping boys for eons- not until Western Europeans civilized the modern world did Christianity escape it's humble and persecuted beginnings. Because they have honorable rules and a discrete code of conduct they are considered 'judgemental' by those who live in the darker shadows of society. What we are now experiencing is the 'ganging up' as it were, on modern Christianity- and more directly- assaults on the Catholic Church in particular.
This serves the narrow interests of secularists, Islamicists, and assorted pagans. They really are still a huge minority in this country, so NEWSWEEK's claim of Christianity's coming demise is just wishful thinking. Over 70% of US citizens claim to be Christian. So, just keep insulting them and see where that gets you…
Hollywood picks on the Christians because they know that the Christians as a whole are peaceful, lovng people and will not react violently like Muslims would….
Would Jesus have supported the Invasion of Iraq?
Christians are NOT necessarily bible thumpers. I consider myself to be christian but I don't follow any faith, I don't read the bible and I don't go to church, I also don't watch any religious channels on the boob tube either. What I do though is follow a good and moral path the best that I know how and I don't feel as though I need someone from hollywood telling me what good, moral and just is. As if THEY know.
Yes.
such a dumb question. He taught us and we humbly learn. Iraq is no different than any other conflict. It's just one you lefties don't like. Asking if the Son of God approves our military moves shows you to be a nitwit…
Idiots like Seth McFartlane continue to bash Christians because, well, isn't that what Jesus said would happen? Seth does not have the guts to trash Muslims or anything about their faith because he is a COWARD.
Christians must continue to "turn the other cheek" as Jesus taught. He said that all who had faith in him would be hated for his sake. Some prophecy, eh? Looks like he was right on target. Seth is enjoying his five minutes of fame. Small consolation for his future in eternity.
Funny you should mention seth mcfarlane because Family Guy is what I immediately thought of as being a HUGE christian/right bashing show once I read this article. I mean it is BLATENT in it's bashing. Too bad because I really liked watching it too.
Why yes he would. He didn't like muslims who murder either.
It's a rise against and a rebellion. Almost everything this country was formed upon was rooted in Christianity at some point. It's the continued persecution of "God's people" as much as the Israelites were constantly enslaved and persecuted. It's the same old, overplayed song, but you're right Steven, it is a dead horse. Anything they can say has probably already been said in multiple different languages anyway. I know a few people that have been working desperately for quite some time to get their voice heard and get some honest looks at Christianity in Hollywood media. They're finding it extremely difficult due to the stigma Christianity has that has been built over a couple thousand years. "The name is childish I’ll admit, but I accept it" reminds me of something Greg Gutfeld would say. Haha
This is all you need to know:
John 15:17-27:
This I command you: love one another.
"If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you, 8 'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, 9 because they do not know the one who sent me.
If I had not come and spoken 10 to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin.
Whoever hates me also hates my Father.
If I had not done works among them that no one else ever did, they would not have sin; but as it is, they have seen and hated both me and my Father.
But in order that the word written in their law 11 might be fulfilled, 'They hated me without cause.'
"When the Advocate comes whom I will send 12 you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.
And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.
Ahahahaha!
God, you are funny.
Preach it!
And that was meant for Crowder…not the loony bin above my "Preach it" text…sheesh…
By who's definition of Christianity do you follow then?
the book of John is a great read and we recommend it to everyone for it's wonderful insight… if you can read Khalil Gibran you must read this- great post…
nasty stuff. Enjoy the dirt nap of the unbelievers…
there is only one way- the way of the righteous…
Wow….just wow. Unfortunatley, one day, you will find out how dead wrong you are.
Oh, but what about Fascism, or Nazism, or Communism? Those generally weren't religiously inspired, yet they managed to be quite destructive. Excising religion does not make man more "rational" or change his fundamental nature.
I completely agree.
Here’s a premise for you: They’re well-meaning people with a heart for helping others. Run with it.
Paul Hill did. So did Eric Rudolph.
Have you ever read the Da Vinci Code? I honestly think the only reason that book did as well as it did was because the Catholics called a boycott on it. It was incredibly poorly written, with too many cliffhangers and really idiotic riddles that I had solved ages before the college professor did. The movie was worse, even though it tried to downplay the anti-Catholic aspect.
But I have to wonder if that's the real reason Hollywood movies keep picking on Christians. Because controversy sells. Or maybe it's simply because it gives them indie cred, the same way films that exploit homosexuality (or taboo sexuality) do. I'm pretty sure McFarlane only does it because he thinks it makes him look smart and edgy. Really, it just makes him look like a giant toolbag.
It doesn't matter. Christians are taught to love their neighbor and turn the other cheek. Guess who is reaping the rewards, now and later.
You know, I used to be just like Seth MacFarlane, talking down Christians at every opportunity. But I never truly hated Christianity (or America, for that matter) — I just thought it was attempting to quash our American freedoms.
Then I learned about the "political correctness" crap that the Left has been doing on college campuses — that Christians have been silenced on campuses across the country, and that the Left generally favors prohibitions on speech, all in the name of "tolerance." I also learned a thing or two about the essentially selfish nature of man.
That clinched the deal.
I gained a much healthier respect for Christians since then, and now I wince when so-called "enlightened" people talk the religion down. But I have nothing against atheists or people of other faiths — it's when they take it as a license to deny that right and wrong exist that I really get peeved.
Well, you can't really say he didn't like Muslims who murder, cuz Muslims didn't invent themselves for another 7 centuries. He was specific about murder, though. And sex, though far too many Christians of my generation are rationalizing that away, imo.
How about a movie that someone actually watches made in the last 40 years?
Oh, right. You are a liberal. No need for context, logical consistency or rationality. Carry on!
I think that when you look at the ammount of movies degrading each side, it might as well be never. The Islamic world dose more than enough to make them selves look bad. 7 or 8 movies that feature maruading bands of bedouin, Geni, or just people and their religion being made to look stupid, is small change compared to ones that bash christianity. My favorite part of that synopsis is the gun-wielding "terrorists" line. have you ever been to a muslim country? Their "rich" culture is one where they make the women to ALL the work while the men stand around and watch.
just sayin.
Steven the time is fast coming to give as good as we get. Christian jokes are boring, lazy, and simply piling on soon somebody might get pissed, just sayin.
Let's see. What is more moronic:
A) Believing that everything came from nothing.
B) Believing that there is an almighty spiritual being responsible for everything.
Both are supernatural in nature but B just seems so much more plausible. Of course that means that you have to live according to his statutes, which is why atheists reject it.
Two things are for sure, Hollywood/lib elites will beat up Christians at any opportunity, and 3 Nazi movies will be made annually to remind us that Jews are still victims and should not be ridiculed or harrassed in any way.
lolz, we Christians are the morons, but you believe that the Devil created the church in order to trick people into believing in "god" to get them to conduct atrocities?
Well, I guess my church isn't doing a very good job! All we do is get together, sing some songs, listen to a message, then have a Bible study. I gotta see about them fitting in a murder or genoside. Maybe we can squeeze it in before VBS and the Woman's Bible study.
And we're the morons….
Christians are hated because we have allowed ourselves to become the symbol of the Repulican party. This is unfortunate because since the Libs hate Repubs they naturally hate Christians. We need to disenfranchise ourselves from both parties. We should remain outside of the political atmosphere and continue to practice the morals we have been taught. Not as the world says they are but what we inherently know they are. We have a head start on most folks because we have God's word. We must choose our politicians wisely, and also what movies we see and what programs we allow on our TV. Show Hollywood that we will not spend our money on their "entertainment" and they will wise up.
The Left wants to exclude any mention of the Christian God one campuses across the US in an effort to push their humanistic agenda. Yet, when a Christian University, namely Liberty U, pushes back by by suspending the Democratic party club–because it espouses beliefs that run counter to those taught in the Bible–the Left cries foul. http://www.newsadvance.com/lna/news/local/article... For once, I'm pulling for Reverand Falwell. (Yeah, it's Junior, but still…) I hope he will stick to his guns and not fold like a deck chair because the Left doesn't like it when the tables are turned.
I think the best reason for giving up on Christian-bashing in Hollyweird is because it's BORING!
Seriously. I'm one of those rabid/militant/evangelical Atheists, or whatever people label me, and I find the rabid Christian-bashing tedious.
Also as a budding history buff, there are SO many other actual historically accurate stories to tell on film about Christian/Catholic history..that don't even necessarily paint The Church in a good light(making it more palatable to the Hollyweirdos) . Historical accuracy wouldn't paint The Church's 'enemies' (I qualify because I wouldn't consider Galileo an enemy of The Church) in a good light either, but at least they'd be good stories, actually somewhat true and interesting. This is true of most history(in the totality of human history). There is no clear-cut good guy or bad guy in something like the Crusades. Because that was hundreds of years ago, Before Obama.
But of course if they made a movie about the Crusades now adays, the poor Muslims would be shooting flowers and farting rainbows, just like they are now.
Why make stuff up? Badly written stuff.
Also, isn't it the Hollyweird types that keep telling us Americans that we don't have a 'global conscience', don't speak French and otherwise don't have a clue about the rest of the world?
How about some real Christian-bashing movies? Like when Christians get bashed in other parts of the world for being Christian? It could even be a current events movie, like all the recent firebombings in Europe, the grave desecration in Palestine, or any of the murders, tortures and refugees that are in the news every single day.
Heh, but that would be silly…It'd be like making a movie about anti-Semites thas NOT based around the Holocaust. We all know Jews and Christians are rich and privileged white folks who rule the world, so never havta worry about that whole persecution thing anymore.
I'd love a Hollyweird movie about Scientology, not because it'd ever get made, but because the lawsuits/bodycounts would be interesting/horrifying-but-hopefully-resulting-in-convictions to watch.
Obviously you know nothing about Yeshua bin Yosef. Remember, it was Jesus who turned over the tables of the money changers in the temple.
Lefties prefer to believe, if they believe at all, in a version of the Son of Man that never lost his temper.
Thanks for sharing. Feel better>?
Face it, HW is simply out of good ideas for movies. No storytelling, just poke until some one reacts. Also, if you take on Islam, they might kill you, painfully.
Christiams seem like fair game.
Here's the thing, bashing christians is TRITE. Been there, heard that, seen that, booooriiiing! It's like that tired old punch line you've heard a million times. It's like that overused metaphor or simile that detracts and distracts.. It's beating up on something that doesn't fight back. Man, that takes real creativity. Unlike most of Hollywierd, the remake industry, offer some new, fresh, and exciting ideas. Rather than spew against something, hike up your skirts, grow some hair and spew for something. Tell us what you think is the correct way–assuming you have a way that more than just criticizing the beliefs of others.
hollywood is a made up, fake, fantasy world culture. Does it not then make perfect sense that Christians are their arch enemies?
Christians DARE to claim that human beings are accountable for their actions to a holy God. And people will not stand for it.
The world hated Jesus. The world hates his followers.
It really is as simple as that.
But what I really don't understand is the constant excusing away of Muslim's actions and always painting Islam in a positive light! THAT is what I don't get. Islam teaches hatred of all unbelievers! So… what makes Hollywood think they are exempt? If anyone has insight on this, feel free. Because I've about busted blood vessles in my head trying to make sense of it!
OK, people. Note two things: Stephen Crowder is a COMEDIAN. You know, guy that makes jokes? Anyone with a brain (one of you got close to noticing, at least) would realize that my comment was also a JOKE. You know, haha, don't take yourselves too seriously?
Notice I said that Christianity can't be true si a bunch of hooey and so forth and then proceeded to talk about the Devil and Lucifer and…
Geez. Lighten up, people. Yes, people make fun of Christians. But your idiot knee-jerk reactions to it only eggs them on.
Have you noticed that when people say something against Israel or its policies, some Zionist will immediately start yelling and screaming "anti-Semite!! Anti-Semite! AUGHH!" So now no one really thinks being called that is all that bad?
Note how the fact that fundamentalist Muslims will knee-jerk the "We will kill you for debasing Islam" is now the stuff of jokes like Mr. Crowder's here?
When will you Christians realize that your reactions are just crying wolf like the Jews and Muslims do? It only makes things worse for you.
If you want to get out from under the gun-totin, redneck who marries his sister image they label you with, you're going to have to lighten up and ignore their jokes and let them slide off. You know, turn the other cheek and stuff.
Once they stop getting a big reaction to their prodding, they'll find a new target.
Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be suburbanite yuppies from Irvine, CA or some other, more deserving target.
Okay, fine, until after 7 centuries had passed He didn't like Muslims who murder.
Glad we got that straightened out.
Agreeing (mostly) for the sake of argument that Christianity takes it on the chin too much in the satire department (though I'll assume I'm the only one getting some cognitive dissonance off the dual insistencies that Christians are "70-something% of the country" yet are OVER represented in the realm of movie satire, right?) can I ask WHY this always innevitably (and quickly) becomes "why don't they trash the Muslims instead!?"
Help me out here. The DaVinci Code would be just as blasphemous, Dogma just as irreverent, Carrie's Mom just as big a stereotype and so on applied equivalently to ANY faith, yes? So why "wish" it on the innocent adherents of any other faith? Is it really the unfairness and the "bullying" your against… or are you telling me you'd be "cool" with it if someone ELSE was the recipient?
(continued)
(continued)
While I'm at it… where are all these overly-nice, bend-over-backwards images of Islam I'm supposed to be rolling my eyes at? What was the last American film that had Muslim good guys that didn't ALSO have Muslim bad guys? Hell, when was the last time you saw Muslims in a movie PERIOD where terrorism wasn't part of the plot? I'm not even being coy here, can you remember one? I can't. I'm sure there were a FEW… but not the thousands upon thousands of "Hey everyone, let's convert to Islam!" rom-coms one would think are swamping the multiplex if they only got their movie news from here and Drudge.
Don't know who Paul Hill is. Eric Rudolph was not a follower of Christ.
Oh, just wait. When the hate crimes legislation is passed into law and every single group, including groups of alternate sexual orientations, other religions, and minorities of every other stripe are protected, then the fun will really begin. They won't be able to use any other group for their villains because that would be a "hate" crime.
And somehow your beliefs trump all others, right? LOL!!!
I think you win for the most completely ignorant post I've ever seen here on BH. Congrats!
At 53, i've been a Lutheran all my life, literally, from the day i was born up to and including the day of my baptism when i was just a few weeks old. being thought of as a serial killer.. not bad. maybe i'll just take it to the extreme and start wiping out some of the crap in washington and then move on to the crap in hollywood. then maybe we could take back our country.. and our theaters, and be able to afford again to go see what is being played in theaters, because we will as individuals.. be prosperous again and in fast pursuit of happiness. God Bless the U.S.A. , me, and all those idiots who say they represent 'me' in washington. God said he won't fix this battle for us, we have to do it ourselves. so i say, get crackin americans!
I love how the Bush-haters/anti-war crowd can bring Iraq into any conversation, no matter how far removed from the topic it is. It's quite a talent.
Ain't that the truth! When they think of Jesus at all, they paint him as some wimpy, handwringing dude who just hugged everyone and told them all to hold hands and sing Kumbaya. It's hilarious to see, especially when you KNOW that most of these people have never opened a bible in their lives, except maybe to pick a verse here or there and mangle it until it's unrecognizable.
If He makes it all then He gets to make the rules. The thing is that you don't have to live according to his statutes because He gave you choice. What you do with that choice determines your eternity. He can't and won't make you love Him…it has to be your "choice".
So I agree…"A" seems more moronic.
Who would've won a tongue kissing contest between Hannibal Barca and General Kang from Star Trek VI?
Thanks for keeping it on topic, genius.
While I understand and agree with your long term view, in the short term I'd strongly encourage Christians to advocate careers in the entertainment industry. Most effective to change perceptions from within rather than complaining about "the e-e-e-e-evil liberal establishment."
Good for you!
You hit the bulls-eye Chad. We Christians are to expect the revilement that will come when we choose to follow Jesus. In fact we are to rejoice about. "For when you suffer persecutions for my name's sake, rejoice and be glad for your names are written in heaven." That may not be verbatim, but it's close. And we have the examples of Peter & John (in Acts) and also Paul. These men all rejoiced in the scorn that was heaped on them for the name of Christ. Spot on Chad.

I love it when people who know nothing about Christianity try this sort of thing. The imaginary Christianity/Christians they've formed in their heads via osmosis from similarly-mind friends, none of who know anything either, leads to moronic "gotcha!" statements like this which simply display their ignorance and foolishness to anyone who knows the reality.
CgntvDssdnt, grab a plate. You'll need it for your ass.
Hey Bob, you don't have to split your longers posts. Just type in the first few sentances then hit submit, and once the post is submitted, hit "edit", and add as much as you want. Good comment by the way.
http://shermansmarch.blogspot.com
Oh moronic misanthropes who aren't funny, like YerMom.
Better pray that you're right.
Here's how you can tell the difference between an evil Christian and an evil Muslim: Christians don't do 9-11's. To anyone. Anywhere. It's not their thing. We all know that it is not their thing.
Christians gave up the the Crusades oh, gee, it seems like just yesterday, but really it was over a thousand stinking years ago. And what part did the Muslims play in that little skirmish? But no really, let's not go THERE.
Actor-trons crack me up with their identifying with their victimizer because that's less uncomfy than identifying with the victims. You know, position of power and all that. Even if it means stooping to hating their own brothers and sisters. Oh yeah, us.
I've had it. The next movie I go to that bashes Christians and/or White Men, I'm walking out and I'm demanding a refund. Oh, I'll be Christian about it.
Hmmm I guess I need to start honing my serial killer skills then, because I am seriously lacking in that regard….
I think it sucks in general… Now don't get me wrong I don't feel like I am persecuted per se…. but I am kinda tired of being told I am ignorant because I have a point of view that stems from my belief… for example, Homosexuality… I believe that it's wrong and sinful… I believe that it is a choice… However, I don't want to see anyone's rights being infringed on…. If a person wants to name their partner a beneficiary then by all means they should be able to do it…. However, no one hears the second part… they only hear the first part and start calling me names and trying to make me feel like I am homophobic, stupid, ignorant, a sheep, and whatever other derogatory terms out there… So much for tolerance… I guess this Christian is more tolerant than the "holy" left….
*sorry I had to get my mini rant out…. I have been perusing on a site where the Christians really can be ignorant (some of them anyway) and the Conservatives are constantly bashed… :/
Hw has gotten so far in with the Christianity bashing that they're afraid to speak any good about it. So afraid of what their friends might think. However, making fun of other religions and cultures or bashing them is not for Christians to do either. It's a tougher issue than it seems. But do we really want Lefties and the ACLU to stand up for us? I'd rather see them come to Jesus than stand up for Christians for PC's sake. As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
I'm a Christian, but definitely no crazed lunatic that they'd have you believe. I know what I believe, I stand firm in that faith, but judgement is God's. I remember my mom telling me when I asked her if God really hated gay people after seeing those picket signs. She said, "Tiffany, you will never see me hold one of those signs. Jesus LOVES everyone whether they follow God or not. It is possible to sin and still find redemption in the word of God and you need to know that no matter what, He loves you whether He likes what you do or not. And you will go to Heaven if you truly believe that and belive in Him." The fact that someone could love me no matter what is amazing to me.
I don't know why people don't believe. And I am a person who believes no one likes what they can't understand. The best I can do is show people how awesome life can be as a Christian and how amazing He really is. And help them understand Him if they want to know.
Oh moronic pigheads who only continue to prove my point, like alexakim.
Yup. 40 years of political struggle, tens of millions of peaceful participants, and you can come up with the names of two idiots, who were not Christians, nor members of any pro-life organization, as "proof "of Christian pro-life perfidy.
You really run on nothing but warm air.
Thanks for reminding me…
There is only one Odin, and He is good!
Lo did he hang upon the Tree for three days to gain the Wisdom.
Lo did he pluck out an eye that he might see.
Lo did he give us the Thing that we might have the Common Law.
Hail be to Odin, the one God of the Northman. Hail be to Him who sits in Asgaard on high!
Ahoy!
Ahoy!
Ahoy!
Seth McFarlane gets away with every stereotype he uses because he does it in the name of "tolerance", he can't be prejudice because he's a tolerent liberal, that's why he constantly stereotypes blacks, homosexuals, southerners, Christians, ect.. The same goes for most of Hollywood.
Growing up in Arkansas I've met many Christians that could be put on the same level as radical Muslims, my whole life I've been harassed by so called "Christians", especially in my home town, but even I know majority of Christians are good people, there are just a lot that need some screws tightened as with all religions.
Holy crap, a coherent reply on this post. Well done! Finally, someone talking sense. Maybe I should have taken this approach instead of just riling up the rabble with my "show them a mirror" humor. Oh well, it was fun. None of them can take a joke, which was exactly my point.
Thanks for the coherent response. I'm glad to see that someone with a brain that functions outside of the walls of Biblical dogma and inside the walls of the live-and-let-live teachings of Christ is around. I think "true Christian" would be the term used to describe that.
I, of course, am only a Christian in the anarcho-libertarian thought portion. I'm not much for religion itself. Although I have studied most of the world's major religions. There's great stuff to be found in all of them. Yep, even Islam.
Psst: don't tell Rush Limbaugh I said that last part…
Leave aside for the moment all the "anti-Muslim backlash" which never seems to materialize despite all the MSM predictions, and let's talk about all the non-Muslim substitutions for the original Muslim villains of such movies as "Sum of All Fears" or "Angels and Demons."
Once upon a time, a film like "Night of the Hunter" was shocking because having a preacher be a murderous villain went against the template. Now, a character has only to be identified as a Christian (preferably a Catholic), and you can wait for the shoe to drop showing that he's a child molester, rapist, murderer, or all-around creep. It's like it's almost obligatory.
"Never" was a poor choice of words. He's clearly talking about movies made after 9/11; i.e. after the Left actively chose to be on the side of Islamic terrorists and their enablers against America. But even in movies older than that, Muslims aren't typically portrayed as evil incarnate or stupider than dirt, whereas Christians today usually are.
You're gonna have to learn how to troll better than that, kid. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
I, of course, am only a Christian in the anarcho-libertarian
That's a relief. I thought for a minute there you were just an immature sociopath looking to inflict pain because it gives you a stiffy.
Don't forget about the Warden from "The Shawshank Redemption", because only a Christian can be that greedy and sadistic.
More people have been murdered under the name os an atheist philosophy than have died in all religious conflicts since the dawn of time.
how many terror attacks here in the US at the hands of non Muslims?
I'm with ya here, Steve. Sometimes the contempt really jumps out at you certain films. But I don't know about the Carrie thing. It was a good enough story and film I never gave it a second thought. A film like FOOTLOOSE is another example. And let's face it, we were kind of stiff-collared back in the day. They wouldn't even show Elvis from the waist down! Just sayin'. Really surprised you didn't mention 'A Handmaid's Tale' though.
When Christ said to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, what does that mean in a representative republic? That we only pay taxes?
I think Christian need to be educated enough about issues to not rely solely on the "scripture" arguement. Most especially on issues of conscience. For instance, there are plenty of good reasons to be pro-life besides Biblical ones. As a Christian, I'm going to stand and say that Christians don't do a good job of educating themselves and because of that they turn people off when rely only on "the Bible says so" retorts. Augustine says we live in two worlds and I think Christians tend to forget about both of them regularly.
Question though, when did Matt Stone "It’s gotten to the point where even the completely irreverent Matt Stone of “South Park” has expressed sentiments of pulling his punches on “society’s whipping boy.”"
But you really hit the nail on the head.
When younger, and questioning my faith, it occurred to me that Christianity must be the truest expression of eternal truths. I came to this conclusion by noting its detractors and the amount of effort they put forth in ridiculing but never confronting Christianity's core tenets. I noted the other things they ridiculed and what they put forth as exemplary, what they put forth as "logic", what they trotted out as beautiful. Indirectly, they pointed me back home. Nice to be an outlaw!
Do not be astonished, brothers and sisters,* that the world hates you. (1 John 3)
‘Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely* on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.(Matthew 5)
Everything is going as Jesus expected…
the only way i can see to get around this hate/thought crimes thing: we give every one an identifier. You know a card or a symbol they can wear on their shirt. Then if you want to get in a fight, or hurt a person, you just have to compare identifiers. If it matches, no hate crime. If it doesn't , thought criminal.
To make it fair though we need to subdivide the population further and futher (height, hair color, and ear size, music preferences etc) then do the identifications
Umm aside from Obamas buddies Ayers and the weather channel underground…none that I can think of. But they were just good old fashioned commies.
Christianity from its inception has been a dangerous religion in practice starting with the Romans crucifying their God! the method for executing criminals then. ((Lenny Bruce had a point when he joked about had Jesus been alive in the 20th century, Christians would have worn little electric chairs on chains around their necks).
Later on, the Romans herded Christians into the circus and sicced the lions on them. Those they didn't burn. I suspect Christianity spread all over the world as Christians fled trying to find a place in which they'd be safe.
When their numbers grew, they became aggressive. Was it because they were inherently aggressive or is it just that "paybacks are hell"?
Jesus's "Render under God that which is God's and under Caesar that which is Caesar's" probably was the first separation of Church and State. Islam has no such admonition. God IS the state to them. Communists and Socialists are the inverse — the State is God to them.
Since the Christians had a Reformation, they don't burn heretics anymore. They don't Crusade even though the Crusades was an attempt to TAKE BACK territory which had belonged to Christianity but which was CONQUERED by the SWORD by Islam six hundred years AFTER Christ was born there. (Look how Ho'wood and Academic propaganda teach us about the Crusades — an invasion. What gave the Arabians the right to conquer the Persians et al but not the Crusaders that same right?)
It's safe to attack Christians. Makes one seem "smart" and "with it". Besides, Christians won't retaliate. Draw a cartoon of Mohamed and you just might find your studio burned down. Ho'woodites are cowards, pure and simple. They rave on about "women's rights" because of the "glass ceiling" but not about women being beaten and murdered for being disobedient to their fathers, brothers or sons. No wonder no one with two neurons to rub together pays them any intellectual attention.
No, Steve. Christians are hated because we give witness by our very name to the Lordship of Christ.
Farbar, good point. I didn't meant you have to as in you have no choice but as in you have to answer to Him for whatever choice you do make. Thanks for making clear what I didn't.
"Fools mock, but they shall mourn"
You are right about the witness, couldn't go into all the reasons in a short space. It is exciting to see prophesy coming true. They who attack us cannot or will not except the truth. But as long as true Christians just tell the truth we will prevail. Hopefully this country will turn from the evil that has become so common.
Hollywood is supposed to hate Christians, at least the sect of Hollywood that's driven by vanity rather than the sheer joy of entertaining. We neither need them, deify them, nor give them the adulation they crave because we've found something so much greater than them that they become insignifcant and merely an occasionally pleasant way to pass the time. Christians are the antithesis of what that portion of Hollywood is striving for, so it's natural for them to see us as their arch-enemies. If they didn't, then we're doing something wrong. And as for why Christians don't rise up and fight it? It's because when you've accepted Christ and have the promise of everlasting life, what does the opinion of Hollywood amount to? Very little Which brings us around full circle to why they hate us.
Timothy McVeigh maybe? Washington Snipers? Anthrax attacks after 9/11?
Great article, you've just ruined any chance at ridding the world of the absurd atrocity that we call religion.
"Making fun of evangelical Christians is like hunting dairy cows with a high-powered rifle and scope." – P.J. O'Rourke.
Did you just use the term "academic propaganda"? How is that even a thing?
"There is none righteous, no, not one" – Romans 3:10. It's Jesus who has made us clean, not ourselves and our so-called "righteousness." Remember, "all our righteousness is as filthy rags" – Isaiah 64:6
The struggle started in 1969? Well, that would leave out The Crusades..and the Spanish Inqusition..
As an atheist I do read the Bible, I've gone to church, and seen my fair share Christian TV (I only get a few channels to begin with). You should never take pride in ignorance.
Double standard.
Murdering a murderer is still unjust.
Not saying the war is unnecessary, Jesus wouldn't have supported it though.
Yes, by all means take a category of people that numbers in the billions and declare them *all* to be "serial killers". Sweeping generalizations are a logical fallacy, son.
Thank you for your article. Jesus told us to expect these things, and why they would come. Many people would be very hesitant to label the standard Hollywood treatment of Christians as 'persecution', but look up the definition of persecution. All those who believe were slated for this…it's something we accept, and deal with in love, cultivating a hope and expectation for the eventual salvation of the lost.
I don't love Hollywood for the way it rips into Christians, but I love the men involved because without loving them, I break Christ's second commandment. In the end, all people, even those who persecute, may come to eternal salvation by grace through faith. Repent, ask God into your heart, believe on the sacrifice of his son and be saved forever. If Paul, who persecuted Christians for years, could eventually come to a saving faith…so much more can the men and women of Hollywood that profit through mockery and shaming.
An applicable verses, with great love:
John 15:
* 18.
* If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
* 19.
* If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
* 20.
* Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
* 21.
* But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
Well, there is a lot of God-approved violence. -Such as the case of Amalakites.
Look through Bible carefully, try to find the part where Jesus exhorts his followers to act like total cobags and drive potential believers from the faith with hypocritical, whiny nonsense.
"Sure Muslims are the cause of virtually all terrorism in the world today"
hahahahaha, what? seriously?
you sure you don't just mean "virtually all terrorism that i am aware of or care about"?
"We’ve never seen Hollywood go after Buddhism, Hinduism, or even Islam."
True. And the reason is reassuringly simple. Satan has no need to demean or belittle people that follow these religions, he isn't concerned with breaking down social opinions of these groups.
Jesus was and is no pansy. Don't be deceived. He left as a Lamb. He will return as a Lion.
"We’ve never seen Hollywood go after Buddhism, Hinduism, or even Islam."
Put down the crack pipe, and back away from your keyboard slowly. Do not return until you've actually watched movies.
Muslim extremists have had prominent places in many movies, and Christianity has been portrayed positively, and negatively, in many movies. I'd say it is a much rarer occurrence for a Muslim to be a protagonist than for a Christian protagonist.
Even an irreverent movie such as Dogma doesn't portray God in a bad light as much as it attacks organized religion/Catholicism.
Take off the evangelical-colored glasses, take two pills of perspective, and write another article in the morning.
Jesus definitely got angry, but not once did he ever retaliate on those who did him wrong – yes, he overturned tables, and it was probably an awesome thing to see, but the Bible never says he did any physical harm to any of the vendors… he even healed the ear back onto the soldier who was taking him to his eventual death… let he who is without sin cast the first stone… etc. – - no, Jesus was not a little sissy (he was a carpenter by trade after-all), but he definitely supported peaceful, non-violent, solutions
I dunno dude, that comes off a bit far fetched!

Thanks for the post. It is a bit of a relief to read it.
America is in paroxysms of self-loathing. What strengthened the rise of the West? A Judeo-Christian world-view implemented with many flaws. So if one wants to hate oneself, emphasize the flaws. If one wants to hate the West, strike at its root, and emphasize the flaws.
Christians can be hypocrites. So may God forgive us. (Jesus warned us about this sin.)
But there is a difference between hypocrisy and trying to live according to one's ideals, failing, and trying again (repeate process).
However, Jesus Christ is not a hypocrite. And it is all about Him.
way to take yourselves too seriously…. what group does hollywood not go after and portray negatively… here's a piece of advice… get over yourselves and stop being prideful.
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)
If Tim McVeigh was a "Christian", it was one of those overtly white-supremacist "identity" churches that popped up in the West around the same time as the "militia movements" (one can say that Reverend Wright's extreme Afrocentric church was the other side of this coin). The Washington D.C. snipers turned out to be an African-American Muslim convert and a young West Indian man who fell under the older man's spell. I can't recall who, if anyone, was arrested for the ALLEDGED anthrax attacks but I'm certain it wasn't some conservative evangelical Christian. If I recall correctly, I think it was some dissaffected scientific researcher.
It laughable that christians complain about a lack of respect from non-christians, why should I feel nothing but contempt for a religion that includes the belief that anybody who doesn't share their beliefs deserves to be dragged of to gods concentration camp (hell) to be tortured for eternity, the book of revelations is a nasty, spiteful, piece of garbage that make a mockery any notion that christianity is a peaceful loving religion. Christian who reject this view, you just have to be good, I don't have any problem with, though I don't understand where they are getting their information from.
the whole idea of Christianity is to question your beliefs. Unlike, say, Islam- there is no draconian punishment for apostasy; just the disappointment the Lord has in us. Redemption is the key. So, as we gain experience (and wisdom) we can keep our knowledge yet grow closer to God… there is a warmth that cannot be explained.
I dunno a few abortion clinic bombings, murders, attempted murders, assaults and anthrax hoax's.
If people in general just chilled out and stop bothering themselves with what others are doing and focus on themselves the world would be a better place. Many of the negative issues that tarnish Muslims, Christians (insert group here) wouldnt exist.
Society already has a rather useful baseline for behaviour, different religions have other specifics… which strangely enough should apply to those practicising that religion. No need to cause grief to everyone else.
An odd example comes from the Muslim world, Malaysia has Muslim law in place. However they used their brains when making the rules, these laws only apply to Muslims. Non muslims do not have to abide by Sharia law.
it is to follow the path of the righteous- not that we have achieved same…
Actually he probably won't. You see, when you die… you magically become a rotting corpse. Nothing more, nothing less. Live your life now, you've only got so much time.
Spot on. This post nails it. Thank God someone finally stood up with the balls to unapologetically call it like it is.
hey porcupine. now, i won't deny that family guy does have its fair share of bible bashing. but they also make fun of jews, and there've certainly been muslim bashing moments. the one that comes immediately to mind is when they portrayed osama and a bunch of his thugs in a cave making a video to send to america.
and it's not christianity as a whole that gets made fun of. it's the fundamentalist, bible-thumping, my way or the highway, i can't believe you don't believe what i believe, you're going to hell sort of christianity. and that's fine. cause those people are crazy.
I"m not sure if they "pick on" Christians, so much as Christians are the majority religion in the country – very outspoken on social issues – and so they make a good target. Also, let's get this straight. If you want to really see who Holiday goes after it is the Catholic Church – why? Because it is visually easy to put a priest on screen (uniform) versus a minister (regular clothes).
Any 'religion' that is based on debatable ancient writings that are incomplete and edited is on shaky ground to begin with. When they start collecting taxes from their believers and then say its OK to hurt people for the sake of the church, then somebody outside the circle needs to step in and start helping the followers to escape. Notice my deliberate words here, to parallel Christianity with Scientology, which seems to have accomplished everything the Catholic Church ever has, but with spaceships and advanced technology instead of a vengeful, but loving, invisible being. It also hasn't taken NEARLY as long for the Scientologists to run the 'gamut' of religious growth. Now they're roughly equally reviled groups of people, but for very similar reasons.
"Muslims are the cause of virtually all terrorism in the world today"
Study what America did in South America during the 80's. Your above statement basically says when they do it its wrong, but when we do it its ok.
You cant preach that everyone who doesn't believe the same as you will spend eternity in a boiling lake of fire and then act surprised when others think that belief extreme. Very few of the above posts express the kind of love Christ exhorts his followers to in the bible. Much more of the you "you all will be sorry when Christ returns" variety are evident in the posts. To be truly convinced means to preach Christ crucified, not indignation at what the lost are doing in their entertainment industry.
Too much Christianity is seen as inseparable from being American in our country. Its why Christians will defend the brutal acts of war our nation has perpetuated for decades instead of thoughtful reflection on what these acts of war should mean to one who claims salvation. Be of Christ, not blindly dedicated to a nation founded by men who are still sinners by the way.
Its amazing the people who belong to the Majority religion in the this country feel so persecuted. Maybe if people did not use there religion to make themselves feel superior to those that do not believe what they believe we would all be better off.. Maybe if people did not use there religious beliefs to shape public policy thereby slowing down progress for all us, we would be better off. In time the use for religions "answers" will decline as the secrets of our world and universe are unlocked with logic and proof. Extraordinary claims require Extraordinary Proof! And no Jesus in piece Toast, or a Potato chip, or the drippings of windex on a dirty window, do not count.
You should actually read the article, not just the headline.
wow, sarcasm in the name of religious freedom, eh?
Anyway, it is an imperialistic extreamist religion,
and heres the 100% proof in your own book!

I am not a hate monger, I just point out extremism and its excuse makers.
"Allegorical" Christians I like, but they ARE becoming rarer, and the others are [seriously]
creating armies and are [seriously] talking about forcefully gaining control of America.
The question wasn't how many terror attacks in the US by Christians, but by non-Muslims, of which there are several. The Oklahoma city bombing was second only to 9/11 in scope as a terrorist act.
You have kind of narrow view on what Obama's or Biden's charitable giving might entail. First, there is no law stating one must declare all monetary donations on one's tax statement. The admonition in Matthew 6:3 could even be interpreted to mean one should not. The reasons are obvious. If you are keeping an account of your giving, then are you doing it from your heart or to impress others. Second, there not all giving is monetary — they can give their time to organizations. Can that be recorded on a tax statement?
That being said, how can you judge how Christian someone's giving is when if they are Christian there is no way to know all thatt they have given.
Right, because South Park has never made fun of Mormons, Scientologists, or Muslims.
What? Scape-goat?! Hardly. Has it occured to anyone that as Christianity is pretty-much the predominant religion in most first-world countries that it would naturally be featured the most? It's a basic matter of proportions. Not to mention that people writ about what they know. Most people in the United States are Christian, and as such, if the bad guy's supposed to be spouting religious verses, odds are they'd pick something they themselves have heard of. On another note, it doesn't matter if Christians feel they've been "silenced" as any effort would harldy put a dent. It goes without saying. The majority of people in the US always just assume people are Christian anyway. Take for example key controversial issues like gay marriage. It's perfectly fine if you don't agree with that and consider them to be immoral. But trying to make it law is to push your religious beleifes onto others.
Well said! Translated it really means the Sean Penn-heads of Hollywood-ilk are really nothing more than playground bullies who prey on the peaceful to get their kicks. And, like EVERY bully I've ever encountered, they won't mess around with folks who will bite back (in this case religions other than Christianity).
t bothers me so much when some people try to act even for a second like Christianity is the underdog. Personally, I think that as you can't just ascend to heaven and check righ now to see if there is a God or a Jesus, that to claim such is arrogance. I get that the whole point is to have faith, but that's a personal choice, and I don't appreciate having that shoved down my throat. Maybe in some cases, Christians are the bad guys in that they think they're doing right, and that's the saddest part of it.
boo f'n hoo. what a lame article. keep consuming. you are being lied to. the earth is not flat suckers.
"Here's how you can tell the difference between an evil Christian and an evil Muslim: Christians don't do 9-11's. To anyone. Anywhere. It's not their thing. We all know that it is not their thing.
Christians gave up the the Crusades oh, gee, it seems like just yesterday, but really it was over a thousand stinking years ago. And what part did the Muslims play in that little skirmish? But no really, let's not go THERE."
Check the casualty rates of the Vietnam war. Crusades in America are not as old as you think. Over a million dead Vietnamese can testify to that.
You are absolutely right.
Every religion is crazy, just believing in such nonsens is just absurt!
so he must love Christians who murder Muslins who murder?
LOGIC > religion.
Conditioned faith is nothing more than mind control set by a primitive form of government in order to control the masses. If you unbiasedly compared Scientology and Christianity or any other religion for that matter you would see that the very same tactics are used to keep its flock at bay.
Talk about crazy… yea, religion is.
You're exactly what he is talking about.
Man, look at all the post hating on religion. You HATE people with faith. That is scary. You know christians have had their ups and downs since their beginnings. But overall are good people in general like he says. It goes with any religion government or group of people. America still had slaves only a few hundred years ago. America is the greatest country in the history of all time, but even we have a tarnished past of bad done wrong to others.
Hold on. You think that everything coming from nothing is less likely than eveything coming from a magical man in the sky who's own origins are unknown?
By occam's razor it has to be A.
B is so much more complicated than A. You added a whole extra step between the origin of everything with the addition of an almighty being. God's sudden existance is less likely than everything coming from nothing, as He would need to spawn with consciousness and the universe would not.
Obama will eventually jail Christians for practicing their faith. Amerika is now lost to the tyranny of the Left. It's fall is now upon us. God help us.
I don't get it, you still blame Christians for having faith and different ideas than yours or d than the useless "buzz" they're trhowing at us everyday on the web? A little bit of tolerance would be a nice gift or should I say "feature" to add to this web 2.0 nonsense where people comment on about anything they read without even knowing the topic. Hollywood taught me one think though : you can make almost anyone believe anything. Cheers
I think there is a lot of assumptions and false knowledge about atheists.
I believe your argument may be a false dilemma. Those are not the only two possibilities.
A) Believing that everything came from nothing.
B) Believing that there is an almighty spiritual being responsible for everything.
C) Believing that everything has always occurred in cycles (Big bang, collapse, etc.)
D) Believing that everything was created from a group of gods.
E) Believing that everything is an illusion.
F) Believing we just don't know the science behind it…yet.
etc….
Additionally, why is it easier to believe an almighty spiritual being always existed vs the universe?
Lastly, atheists don't reject the supernatural because they don't want to follow the rules. It's the other way around, we don't believe, therefore we don't follow those rules. If we believed but did not follow the rules, we would be a "lapsed christian/muslim/jew/etc."
Atheists are discriminated against every day. Christians are a majority and have used their weight as such. Example, I live in Texas and would have to be an "in the closet" atheist if I was to run for public office. An official could be "excluded from holding office" if she/he does not "acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being."
I think there is a lot of christian bashing because we can. For how long was mocking christianity meet with a stake and fire or shackles. How many lives have christianity taken since its inception.
I agree that there are plenty of christians are kind and truly represent christs teachings but they are also plenty of christians who have twisted christs beliefs to justify some horror they planned on doing.
There is a lot of christian bashing going on because we can finally get away with it.
There's in-name-only Christians. There are practicing Christians. Then there's practice what we like forget the rest (by far the most outspoken and dangerous). Big difference. This is true for all religions.
"Here’s a premise for you: They’re well-meaning people with a heart for helping others. Run with it."
Yes, and Mexicans are here only to do jobs no one else would.
Hollywood picking on Christians? Yeah right . . . Hollywood makes movies to make money regardless of you Christian losers developing an inferiority complex over it. We should keep our faith personal and close to our hearts, regardless of faith, and half of our problems would be solved. While you mistreated Christians keep whining explain to me why the bloodiest movie ever made trashing Jews at the same time is the (bloodthirsty) Christians most favorite ever?
"Unlike, say, Islam- there is no draconian punishment for apostasy"
Hell, actually. I consider that somewhat draconian.
Christians in this country are exactly as bad as the Muslim extremists you're trying to contrast them with. Stop trying to legislate morality for the rest of us and the stereotyping will likely stop.
Your argument is at once both a poorly constructed straw man fallacy as well as a false dichotomy. It may work if you preach it to the choir, but not on someone with any background in logic.
No atheist truly believes the universe came from nothing, we are still learning and understanding where it came from. Nothing supernatural here.
Believing that a being living outside of our realm created everything from nothing is completely supernatural and implausible though. Which is why atheists are atheists, there is no evidence of said supernatural being.
ur so silly. it is because america is a Christian country so you can bash your own kind. Its like making white jokes when you're white, or black jokes when you're black.
Stop crying you baby. go read the bible instead of complaining about people making fun of a religion you don't even know… especially when those people are of that religion!
Cry baby…
People have a free will, Bush invaded Iraq not Christians! But ya everybody knows that 9/11 was an inside job. Besides Bush is a Satan worshiper.
On the other hand, more wars have been declared in the name of religion than any other since the dawn of time. I don't think either of these prove anything.
Christians are so treated in American cinema because America has to deal with the likes of creationist christians almost all the time. Whether preaching their silly stories or trying to influence our government, we are forced to deal with their regressive ideas.
Although your argument does not fully stand, as the depiction of Islam as evil is much more rampant in films than the depiction of Christians as such. Buddhism and Hindi religions are not treated as harshly because they are such a minority in the US. That and their teachings are subjective and aimed at personal enlightenment, not spreading their religion.
"We’ve never seen Hollywood go after Islam"
You gotta be kidding.
Get over it. I don't hear you complaining about how hollywood portrays D&D players. Or maybe how they portray cops. Or what about politicians. Fast food workers, perhaps? Teenagers? ANYONE AT ALL? Thought not
Turning over tables isn't the same as war.
Only TWO defining forces have ever offered to die for you: ____1 Jesus Christ__2 The American Soldier____Bashing either of them is not wise nor beneficial
I'm intrigued that you've only actually managed to cite one film (Carrie) where the Christian's are portrayed as nuts. That's not a great way to stand up an argument.
Which other widespread terrorism are you referring to?
Yikes! Help me God! I just killed a whole box of Cheerios! Blessed be those with low chloestrol for they will attain better blood pressure!! Got Milk?
Mo, Evan Sayet, (not a chiistian BTW) explains it all, invest 50 min. It's worth it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaE98w1KZ-c
Im pretty sure that "God-approved" violence was in the Old Testament for Gods chosen people. I hope you wouldnt put those stories on the same pedestal as the Iraq war.
….."Muslims are the cause of virtually all terrorism in the world today" wow……
The Provisional Irish Republican Army killed over a thousand people in terrorist attacks.
The KKK killed over a thousand in the early part of the 20th century.
Timothy McVeigh (OKC bombing) was an on-again off-again Catholic (he claimed to be agnostic, but requested the Sacrament of Extreme Unction before his execution).
That's all in the 20th century.
Hmmm… Shawshank and Carrie were both by Stephen King.
Please! That last paragraph just lost you any shred of integrity you may have had.
Their ridicule is based one one thing mostly: the loony left are afraid of Christianity because it is sane, and the gobbledygook they personally are into could never do for the world what Judeo-Christian believes have in bringing freedom to so many, and such prosperity for the common unlike any other faith or philosophy. It works, therefore dehumanize it.
I hate to sound like a 16 year old girl, but they're just jealous, with a massive dose of performance-fear.
Wow, you really believe that matter could just spontaneously occur, yet that an eternal spiritual being can't exist?
Sorry, but I will take the possibility of eternal spirit over eternal matter any day of the week.
Maybe I'm not paying attention, but what are all these depictions of christian serial killers. Could you list more examples? I'm not saying they don't exist, just that I've never noticed them.
The GLBT were all up in arms about Basic Instinct having a lesbian serial killer.

Christianity is poked at more often because it's the dominant religion that most of North America was raised with. It's the most familiar and the closest cultural touchstone.
That and the whole Crusades/Inquisition thing. Oh, and Iraq (which is totally another religious war hidden behind the guise of oil and 'fighting terrorism').
Granted the quiet majority are marked by the loud crazies… but so is Islam. And pretty much any other religion where the masses allow the loud, crazy Fundamentalists to speak for them.
Nothing supernatural here eh? So you think it is perfectly natural to believe, that since the size of the universe is such that light seen is so far away that it would take longer than universe has existed (by scientific estimates) for the light to arrive, then at some point light must have traveled at faster than the speed of light.
The fact is that we see light that's travel time would take longer than the age of the universe. Either it was accomplished by an act of God (well within His power to do so), or that light traveled much faster than 186,000 miles/second at some point. Both are supernatural in nature and you have to believe in one or the other.
on earth, dearie…
Yes, they were inspired by religion. Hitler was a Catholic who wanted to exterminate Jews. Communism was seen as an answer to ridding the country of its controlling religious influences, especially in politics (If you ignore the corruption at the top tier of Communism you will see that it is actually a more Christian way of life to that of Capitalism). And Fascism is seen throughout history as a means to enable a singular mindset, especially one that favors a religion, since it is the "opiate of the masses" and makes control a lot easier.
Most don't believe that America has developed into a silent fascist government (for the record both Republicans and Democrats are very much identical parties who are cooperatively drilling this country into desperation for the benefit of the upper class) because they think they are blessed souls destined to gallivant the heavens with their supposed loving deity, and that this country supports it. Think about how this country has been developed into a Christian dominated society when it was purely founded on the Secularism. Most Americans haven't educated themselves on Cause and Effect. If they would pick up a couple dozen history books they will learn and understand how much Christian Imperialism has pissed off this world.
9/11 happened and the gracious and loving Christian America wanted to go blow up anyone with a turban, instead of turning their cheek and forgiving the souls that trespassed them – somehow they are able to cherry pick and justify their actions. Please read about the 1953 Iranian coup, the crusades, oil expansion, America's 800 military bases throughout the world, the recent molesting of Irish catholic boys, the civil rights act, women's rights, and especially the genocide of Native Americans to the hands of God's chosen and loving people. There's so much more out there that contradicts the Christian's claim to love, compassion, and generosity. Also, please note that the use of God on our money and in our Pledge was enacted in the early 1950's by Eisenhower.
Thank you for reading this far. I have a belief in God myself and strongly believe that it should stay out of politics and should never be used to justify a wrong. I am very disappointed in the way fellow Christians have allowed others to pervert the belief and allow so much corruption and hypocrisy.
Oh noes, so much writing! Peace Out.
The Hollywood focus is cyclical and while the Christian minority think they are being unfairly picked on, it is because the industry follows one another. Hard to pitch a new film when no one else is doing it. We have had years of the English whining that they were always the villian, before that the gays, hippies, commies. Focus will soon shift. (Hmmm any Christian queer English actor could make a killing atthe moment! And they are all so suited to the role).
Really? Your references to the "poor misunderstood" christian is a 70's horror film and an adult after hours cartoon? Well, no one ever said that christians were logical did they?
How about Poltergeist. Was that bashing on American Indian religious rights? Santa Clause vs The Martians? Obvious depiction all Martians are evil. Or South Park's Super Best Friends episode that showed all religious deities as useless? Perhaps you haven't really watched enough tv or maybe your just insecure about your religion.
What you need to realize, which is simple logic, is that hollywood is selling a product, a product based on emotion. Christians are the largest religious group in the world. If your going to sell a product dont you want to sell it to the most people and draw them in through some form of antagonism?
And of course not all Chrsitains are minority bashing fear mongers, just most. California is a current example of chrstians denying hope, love, kindness, and equality in the simple act of marriage while you whine about being depicted an non-angelic in film or being crucified as fanatics in ancient times. Man up.
What does one have to do with the other! Bush took us to war..that doesn't mean Christians took us towar. It was over oil. Stop spewing the same trash over and over..the minute someone makes a valid point no matter what it has to do with..you go back to Bush. Who cares his days are over..If a democrat/moviestar just one time said something was off with there party or they didnt believe 100% of what there party was spewing I would give you a chance but it seems to me your mind is stuck. As you can see no one agrees with what you were trying to ask with your question. Maybe if the lefties would read more instead of watching E entertainment they might have some knowledge to fall back on.
no I don't but you seem to think that atheists do, so I used your own example. I think it's more likely than a supreme being but there are better explanations than either of those for how the universe formed.
Seems to me that you are a New Ager more than a Christian. Don't fool yourself into thinking you are a Christian just because you say you are. God wants our obeidence to Him, no just us living a "good and moral path".
God knows what we all need and most of the time the answer is in the Bible. Pick it up and read it. Even when I am in the deepest and darkest periods, I find some comfort from it, and God.
OR, there's a piece of the puzzle we're still missing or don't quite understand. Just because we do not understand something does not mean it is supernatural in nature, only that our understanding of nature is incomplete.
It does not require an almighty being to do so. And don't you think is He had created the universe, its rulse would make more sense? Or did he decide to change the speed of light part way through the process.
That was left for Sgt, not Radial Pie
sure if you want to live in a world of denial, you can pretend that christians didn't wage an 800 year war against science and truth….incidently torturing and murdering anybody who dared to mention little things like "logic" and "facts".
I am sure the Nazi's were also misunderstood.
but don't for a minute pretend that christians are charitable or honorable or decent. They are attempting to destroy America as we speak and they have zero……..ZERO respect for the US Constitution.
Ask yourself instead:
Why does Christianity need apologists?
There are generally two kinds of Christians: crazy and boring. Only one of those is entertaining to watch on the screen.
hum… sources? do you have any proof that you see light "so far away that it would take longer than universe has existed (by scientific estimates) for the light to arrive"?
A scientific article? Anything?
The media at large look to take swipes at Christians. http://www.fatherrandy.com/journal/2009/5/6/media...
Like many others have mentioned – easy target with the turn the other cheek mentality. Let's face it, a lot of Christians (actual practicing faithful types) avoid much of what Hollywood presents because it is morally bankrupt anyway. Religion is and always will be an easy target. A devout follower of Jesus would not want to work in Hollywood to change things because it is such a Godless place.
The Russians and Muslims have long been the poster chlidren of defining what a terrorist looks like. Look back at who the terrorists are in Hollywood movies in the last 30 years of cinematic history and you'll be surprised to see that in an open world of more than 260 countries – the terrorists were always painted in two flavours – religious extremist Muslims or Murderous Russians who are angry about the demise of the Soviet Union.
That's the funniest thing I've ever read… lol. =) Bush was a prime example of the Christians. Christians are the only one I ever talk to that defends his illegal war. Let's just forget history in general, where Christians have been known to take what they want and kill in the name of their god.
I grew up a christian, and I can say, "THank God!", I'm no longer tied up with the crazy.
[...] feels that they could stand to learn a lot from the peaceful, Muslim folk? If I hadn’t been ra click for more var gaJsHost = ((”https:” == document.location.protocol) ? “https://ssl.” : [...]
"not until Western Europeans civilized the modern world …"__"Civilized the modern world?" And what, exactly, did that civilizing, as you call it, entail? Let's just take the Americas. Western Eurpeans "civilized" the native HUMAN population nearly out of existence. Another word for that is genocide. Sure, right now you're dismissing me as a revisionist, liberal, Indian-loving extremist, smug in your convictions that Jesus would have wanted this great land for Christians. Really. Does the Good Book, with its honorable rules, preach genocide? I must have missed that part. I don't remember, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, unless you really, really, really, want their land. Then get a gun and blow their heathen brains out." There are good and bad people of all faiths. But as long as people defend Christianity, or any other religion, by saying things like "Western Europeans civilized the modern world," pretending evil acts weren't committed along the way, don't expect thinking people to respect anything you have to say.
How would it be if I made a statement similar to yours about every African American or Latino based on a couple gang members down the street from me? My guess is you would be as offended by it as your statements are for many of us.
Ummmm…. ok, why? Do you not think that atheists are discriminated against? Maybe not in some parts of the country, but it happens quite a bit.
Actually, it's true. In many places atheists are discriminated against.
And you didn't respond to any of his rebuttals, you just attacked him. Can we assume you have no argument?
Isn't it time everyone (I mean EVERYONE) stopped clinging to ancient superstitions? It is 2009, folks. The stories that made it into the Bible were written by people who aren't too many generations off from those who thought the sun was a giant chariot. In fact, in most cases the stories are the same as those written by people who thought the sun was a giant chariot – the names have just been changed. Remember a story about a carpenter named Noah? It flooded and he built an ark that could somehow contain every species of animal on the planet? Yeah? Well, now look up Deucalion – see any similarities there? These stories were written before the advent of science, archaeology, and a general understanding of the living world. There are no lessons in the Bible or the Koran that can be considered moral – unless you derive morality from spending your life trying to please a self-absorbed psychopath (I'm lookin' at you, God). If I want lessons on morality, I will consult moral philosophers. If I want lessons in animal sacrifice, I will consult religions. And, frankly, those who so fervently cling to such outdated schools of thought deserve to have fun poked at them. You know why? Because their belief systems are predicated on plagiarized fairy tales.
I don't think it's any worse than the way people from teh south tend to be portrayed.
Please link me to an article about this, as this is the first I have ever heard of it.
Also, you set up another false dichotomy. If you don't know what that is, I will explain it:
"If A is wrong, B must be right."
It is a simplified, amateurish argument, which gives nothing to back up your claims. There is no evidence of this being an act of god, you just decided that. And this is the problem with science vs. religion: Science looks at the facts and tries to figure out a conclusion to better understand the universe, religion starts with a conclusion and then whatever they can't explain they say "GOD DID IT."
But again, if you could link me to an article backing up your claim, I will gladly refute it.
congradulations, you now understand the difference between islamic terrorists and normal muslim people.
Play this d-bag off keyboard cat…
" I consider myself to be christian but I don't follow any faith."
Sadly, then some other Christians in America don't consider you to be a Christian. Plenty of prominent people who proclaim themselves to be virulently faithful Christians deny your right to claim that YOU and I can be Christians unless we are Christians the way THEY say WE have to be Christians. Witness all the Christians who say Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, Ted Kennedy, and other liberals are not Christians because they are pro-choice. Ipso facto, done deal. I don't remember Jesus signing over power of attorney, but, hey, I'm not a lawyer.
This post is smugly written and almost offensive. To answer your question, maybe it's because Christianity is a hegemony in America, and so people who don't subscribe to its morals are oppressed by them every day? Maybe it's because Christianity is tied to overboard patriotism, and overboard patriotism is tied to 9/11 hysteria which is tied to racism and violence against good people who happen to be Muslim.
This is like a white person complaining when a rap song makes fun of their dancing ability.
I'm sorry your feelings are hurt, but take solace in the fact that you're still the all powerful oppressive majority. (Or should that be remorse?)
And yet, Crowder's one example was Carrie, released 33 years ago.
Anyone who trues to tell you the Cristian faith is full of hate and evil and the Muslims are of peace and love is high. Nowhere in the Bible doe sit say it is right for a Christian to kill a non christian for not converting, unlike in the Quaran (or however you spell it) where it is required by all Muslims to kill any non mulims who will not accept the Muslim way. And even if you do convert to being a Muslim you are still to be considered a second class citizen.
In the trailor of The Taking of Pelham123 The John trovolta character (the bad guy) is wearing a large cross earring. The good guy, denzil Washington, is wearig a large diamond earring. The message is loud and clear. Nothing is done by accident. my guess is that John trovalta character will be sporting a tatoo cross on his arm or back… just to get the point across.. just saying.
let's see….on the first one….you have no evidence he died for anybody. Christians are forever trying to lie….when that fails they kill those who point out that Christians lie.
and the American Soldier, his morality and choices could use some improvement too.
I don't need anybody committing attrocities in my name.
Silly, silly boy. White, CHRISTIAN terrorists have killed more people and cause more property damage in the United States than Muslim extremist terrorist.
Oh, and christianity is easier for hollywood to make fun of because most of the people in the united states don't know the first thing about Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Budhism, or any religion other than their own, and they often don't understand that very well.
Moral of your story: go read a book, talk to some people, and check your facts. You won't sound like a white fundementalist christian that is unjustly angry at an imagined affront. And you won't sound like a fool.
…and deservedly so!
one only has to evidence their repeated anti-American behavior!
….another christian lie. It says in many places in the old testament exactly what to do with people who don't convert.
..or did you forget what happened at Jericho?
This whole article and most of it's comments remind me of this:
http://www.amptoons.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2...
Paul,
God made us all and has the right to judge us. The Amalakites were judged by God and He gave the Israelites the task of carrying it out. They were even given 400 years to repent of their sins, but it seems they only got worse and they were judged. There are examples of other people groups in the Bible that received a message and repented and were spared violence (as you put it) and judgement.
Where do you see examples of hypocracy in the New Testament?
Islam teaches its followers to respect the "brothers of the book," meaning Christians and Jews. Furthermore, Islam spread so effectively after 1000 C.E. precisely because it was more accepting of differences in individual groups and communities, which set its belief set in direct opposition to the Christian's more totalitarian approach.
Another thing: imagine if you judged all of white christians in america by the KKK. The KKK is a group of racial extremists that would like nothing better than to kill all the blacks, latinos, jews, arabs, indians and asians. There are groups of extremist muslims that would like nothing better than to kill all the "nonbelievers," which actually translates to "people who have exploited us." Now, if you judge an entire religion based solely on those two groups, by your logic, all white people are exactly like Hitler and all Muslims want to conduct religious genocide.
Use logic. Check your facts. It helps.
Also, Muslims regard Jesus as the second greatest Prophet, second only to Mohommed. Islam teaches its followers to respect Jesus, and follow his teachings. This is from the Koran.
Christianity gets made fun of because Christians are the definition of the word PARADOX.
They feel they have the right to tell the rest of the world what is morally right and morally wrong, yet Christianity itself is a faith based on bloodshed, murder, war, tryanny, & lies. Sure…if we spruce it up a little bit, we have good features for it too. The main point though, is that Christians are hyprocrites. They don't want to admit it. All religion is flawed. If Christians could accept that, then they'd stop being the social punching bag. But nah..as long as Christians are on their moral high horse, the scope will always be aimed at you.
This is coming from a Christian, just so you know. And I've chuckled by reading the blasphemous stuff you people typed here, defending Christianity, and basically proving my points. Nothing but a bunch of filthy hypocrites.
I think that you are forgetting that those who are considered Heretics for questioning any of the doctrines (sometimes only one word) are mostly dead by "Christian" hands. I was talking about this with my wife on Monday. I called it the abused heretic syndrome.
Basically what happens is in the beginning all Christians were free to do as they pleased. They all had an equal desire in doing things Jesus' way. Then some decided it's time to make that a requirement. Then to justify it, and help kick out the more conservative christians, they came up with one or two basic doctrines. This was further helped by pagan converts who pointed to things like the grandeur of temples, altars, and priests. The conservatives fought against "law" in their walk, and the progressive christians got the State to back them. More doctrines were created to firm up and legitimize their religion. Some Christians would point out that this is or that was going against Jesus' teachings, or older teachings which Jesus enforced. The would be excommunicated. The excommunicated would form together. The "Chruch" would use Roman might to kill them all and burn their books. Some would escape elsewhere, create doctrines to make sure that crap didn't happen again. The whole process would start over – Some of the escapees would resist the doctrines, the denomination would find powerful allies, which hunt the heretics, heretics escape somewhere else, and onward.
Christian and Christian Denominational history is chocked full of this stuff. How many Christians were burned at the stake by the Calvinists or Anglicans? How many Baptists died at the hands of the Puritans and Anglicans? How many Arians were destroyed by the Catholic Church (which you had to be a member of to be considered a Christian back in the 3rd – 14th century)? How many African Cities were trampled by the feet of Roman boots at the behest of the Catholics? How many Jews died at the hands of Christians because they would not except Christ during the Crusades?
You say there is no earthly punishment for apostasy, but how would explain the deaths of protestants, catholics, baptists, quakers, mormons, episcopalians, and even unitarians, at the hands of other Christians? And there are more denominations that are completely extinct because the Christians were successful in annihilating them! How can you make such a statement?
It is because you do not have enough experience, wisdom or knowledge. When you obtain that you heart will ache, and you will not be able to sleep or live without the desire to help correct those past and current wrongs.
~ a Sad Christian
Hey look, Christians with a persecution complex! Stop the presses! If you want to know the real reason Christians are portrayed negatively in the media, it's because of the Christians you choose to let speak for you IN THE MEDIA. Or, rather, you choose not to stand up and say, "Hey, this guy doesn't speak for me." So, when the face of your religion that is portrayed to the non-Christian world is spewing hate for other groups or belief systems (yes, "hate", it's not just disapproving compassion) and you stand there and do nothing, don't be surprised when people take this and run with it.
I am elated to read something like this because I've felt the same way for a very long time.
True, but being Black or Latino isn't a choice.
no
And it sounds to me like SgtTank is following that way.
So how many Orphans have you sheltered, and widows have you fed lately?
The way you are describing God is as if he is a bully with self esteem problems. The only people that demand obedience for obebience's sake are rather pathetic people. I know I'm exaggerating a bit here, but seriously sit down and think about it. Kosher is generally regarded by Jews as an arbitrary rule set God laid down in order to see if people would obey it. It serves no purpose other than to remind us how great and all powerful God is. It makes no sense, and requires absolute belief.
I have read the bible through several times. I do not have a greater understanding of it than anyone else that has read it, because it is a book that is made to be interpreted.
In all of the Gospel's, Jesus gave only one command.
"This is my command: Love each other." John 15:17
And love is defined in 1 Corinthians 13. If you can live life like that, by a simple moral goodness, then you have done as God commanded.
" 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. "
Strive to love like this, and you have done the one thing Jesus commanded.
Good luck.
You see Paul, all the Christians have to do is narrow down who they consider Christian, form a previously wider term, then they can filter out those that don't meet their agenda. They can call those filtered out unbelievers. I call those Christians who do the filtering Charlatans.
*cough* witch hunts *cough* prosecuting pagans *cough*
Hahaha — It cracks me up when the most discriminating groups that EVER existed likes to pretend it's persecuted. My favorite part: This article came out a day after proposition 8 was upheld. What's next? "Ah, poor us! We have to stone evil sinners! Our arms are hurting."
so when someone gets played out were not allowed to say anything anymore eh? eh?
time for me to start wearing rainbows and sequins in movies
This is a little late coming, but for the benefit of anyone who bothers to read this far:
Jesus lived under one of the cruelist, most militarily aggressive, imperialist regimes in the history of mankind and never said two words about it.
That wasn't why He came.
He wouldn't have said anything about the invasion of Iraq, one way or the other.
Reality check:
The Vietnam Conflict was a war between two nation states on different political, ideological, and strategic matters. Religion wasn't even in the equalization, nor has it been in any of the war (on America's part) in the last… oh… 250 years.
A Crusade, by definition is a Religious war, the last war undertaken by Christianity was likely more recent than the Crusades, most likely the Spanish conquest of Central America, but that's still 400 years ago.
It's difficult for me to comment on this subject without diverting into some digressions, so forgive me if I indulge myself: I'm only trying to be helpful.
First of all, the nutshell is that the world hated Jesus unto death, and many of His followers have met the same fate over the millennia. Jesus Himself told us to expect this, and to wear it as a badge of honor: If the world doesn't hate you, well then, you may want to examine yourself to figure out which side you're actually on.
Then, there's the whole turn the other cheek/love your enemies commandment, which prohibits Christians from retaliating to all but life threatening situations with any violence (Turn the other cheek isn't an invitation to allow a foe to kill you if you are in a situation in which you can defend yourself, IOW).
So, we as Christians have to be positive in however we respond, and not negative. I agree that a positive response to Christian-bashing would be a good thing, but great care has to be taken that such efforts don't devolve into Christians bashing other groups. That's a no-no. That doesn't mean that Christians should avoid telling the Christ-centric truth about the dispensation of groups of lost souls – that's actually mandated in our commission – and therein lies the rub: Any truths we tell will be twisted by the world into alleged prejudice and bigotry. It's a classic – the classic – Catch-22 situation.
As for myself, I dug myself out of the Slough of Despond by reading the Bible on my own, so I know good and well that no evangelist could have reached me before that point. So, as a result, I take solace in the old, "don't cast your pearls before swine" adage. Most people can't be reached because they don't want to be reached and/or aren't ready to be reached. As a result, I'm not an in-your-face evangelist, but I'm always feeling for the people who are ready (I've actually gotten pretty OK at that over the decades).
Therefore, I applaud your general sentiment and desire, Steven, but I would be prepared for great resistance and very limited results. I would add that I think this is something we must do, regardless.
Thank you for the laugh. It is a rare treat to read four paragraphs in which each and every sentence contains a factual error. Your historically ignorant ramblings have given me a great laugh today.
Just a sampling:
-Hitler was raised Catholic, but had jettisoned his faith long before he rose to power.
-Communism is not "more Christian" than Capitalism, as the aid given to the poor is not voluntary.
-America was not founded on Secularism, but on a mixture of Enlightenment ideals undergirded by a largely mainline Protestant/deist worldview and values.
-According to experts on the Crusades, they were a medieval phenomenon that have nothing whatsover to do with modern events (Cf. Thomas Madden and others).
-A majority of the leaders of both the women's and civil rights acts were Christian, and in the case of civil rights, Christian clergy.
-"In God We Trust" first appeared on American money in 1864 on the two-cent coin. It appeared in 1865 on the gold double-eagle coin, the gold eagle coin, and the gold half-eagle coin. It was also placed on the silver dollar coin, the half-dollar coin and the quarter-dollar coin, and on the nickel three-cent coin beginning in 1866.
Thank you for the laugh. You must be great at parties.
Look it up for yourself. It is true and now widely believed in scientific circles.
No, when he created the stars and heavenly bodies, their light was immediately visible to earth. That was the whole point of putting them there.
Through Him all things are possible.
Communism was seen as an answer to ridding the country of its controlling religious influences, especially in politics (If you ignore the corruption at the top tier of Communism you will see that it is actually a more Christian way of life to that of Capitalism).
(Ah-ha!)
9/11 happened and the gracious and loving Christian America wanted to go blow up anyone with a turban, instead of turning their cheek and forgiving the souls that trespassed them…
So…if attacked, we're supposed to ask "Why do they hate us?" and vacillate accordingly. Got it. Self-defense is not allowed.
Ah, if only the right people were in charge! I wonder why every Communist country degrades into a police state, the likes of which you'd never tolerate out of Americans. So I suppose I need a benevolent master like you to tell me how much I'm allowed to make, where I'm allowed to live, and how much I am allowed to own. (Oh yeah, and you hate free speech as well.)
Plus, you act as if the Muslim terrorists are progressive avengers fighting for freedom from rich white men so that they may institute a utopia where all are equal. You defend the very types of people you consider to be evil (ultra-traditional, retrograde religious fanatics) — oh wait, they're only evil when they're white Christians.
Now what about every other nation that came into being through conquest? (Russia, most of Southern Europe, the United Kingdom, etc.) "But that was so long ago," you ask. Dammit, justice knows no time! The natives of those lands as well were plowed under by Christians. Perhaps they should all be destroyed — or at least made into Communist subject peoples (too late for Russia…)
And America is hardly "fascist." For all our complaining about political correctness, the fact that you can damn America to hell right on the Internet where anyone can read it gives the lie.
There is a slight difference between those and 9/11.
The first is they aren't single actions, except for McVaigh, but his motivation was not religious. Which does make it different. Further none of those is as clearly religious oriented as 9/11 was. The KKK claimed to be Christian, but that had nothing to do with their motives or actions, they claimed to be Christian 'cause they claimed to be upholding "Traditional Values," which includes Christianity. All they really were was racist idiots, and that was their motivation, not religion.
As to the IRA and GB, while that conflict had religious flavor, and was exacerbated by religious differences, it was not just about religion and doing damage to the "great satan." Of the three examples cited, it is the most comparable, but again, I know of no single IRA attack that was as major as 9/11, the IRA attacks were usually much smaller scale.
Metalsmith,
That is between Gabriel and God, not something to be paraded around like a badge. We are saved by grace not by what we do. If you are interested check out:
John 3:16
Romans 3:10
Romans 6:23
Romans 5:8
Romans 10:9-10
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Iraq, Afghanistan, Hawaii. That should be enough for starters.
I'm a atheist, but what you said about muslims goes to far. There are only a few differences about Christians and Muslims, and the differences aren't about violence. The church is a start of propaganda, saying there religion is the best and other religions are bad as hell. They used the power of the people there weakness, by telling them that if they wouldn't give the church money and go to pray everyday the would go to hell. Muslims aren't bad people because of there religion, they just think different about some things but not war. The terrorists are people who are simply brainwashed and don't blow themselves up because of Allah.
All religions are strange and and think bad about human rights. What you believe doesn't make you a bad person. I think Muslims are better than Christians, they are nicer and don't think radical.
Or maybe its because its the most common belief system in the US so a majority of the audience can relate to the strong feelings of shame embedded in all christian beliefs, which was the point of Carrie.
I think you just hit on something blindly, and even you are unaware of it. Christians, at least most of them posting on here, act as if they are having a dick size contest against the works of "the left", as if that group actually cares. That is the true jealousy going on here. You want credit for things you've either done or not done over the credit of others. YOU WANT TOP BILLING!
It'd be funny if everyone weren't so serious.
I'm not sure I follow, please elaborate.
Paul, there have been over 11,000 terror bombings by Islamist extremists since 9/11. How come you Lefties always seem to leave them out of the conversations on religious extremism? Hmm. Curious.
Hmm, Seth MacFarlane, Richard Dawkins, Christophier Hitchens, and Bill Maher are still alive and free, and the only bombs that went off in Hollywood were props in movies they were filming. "Just as bad?" Really?
Oh, and no one was in danger for their lives because of "The Da Vinci Code" or "Angels and Demons."
Wow! So after the same folks comment, all the loonies come out of the woodwork. Go back to HuffPo and Kos folks.
So let me get this straight, Jesus was a martyr, and now Christianity on the whole is a martyr?
kacophony wrote:
"Which is why atheists are atheists, there is no evidence of said supernatural being."
While maybe not intentional on your part, the statement is dishonest. There is evidence. The atheist/agnostic makes a choice to disregard or refuse the evidence in a similar way that the Christian makes a choice to accept it. Atheists refuse to make the step into faith regarding GOD by what they can or cannot determine with the evidence provided. Their disbelief is a choice. They refuse to accept the evidence since they cannot know experientially that it is true. Strangely enough though, most of what we accept as true cannot be known experientially but we accept is as true nonetheless.
Ah, good point. Regardless of McVeigh's religion (or lack of), that was not the motivation.
The KKK, however, really did (do?) think they were doing god's work. That the whites were the true chosen race. They are, of course, extremely far from 99% of christians, but they do consider themselves good christians. This is all from books, though; no first hand accounts.
I also agree that the IRA is the most apt example. I don't think that the casualties from all those years matches lives lost on 9/11. However, I can't think of any single act of terrorism that has claimed as many civilian lives as 9/11.
Geronimo you don't look beyond the surface do you? A pretty shallow thinking person, right? You laugh at Earth, yet can't see that you yourself must be an extremely embarrassing twit to have around. Your daftness is outstanding.
-Yes, Hitler was raised Catholic, under Christianity, a great example of how raising someone under your God doesn't mean they will be good. A lot of you bash Atheists because you fear where they get their morals from and assume that are inherently bad people, because of no God. Explain why Hitler turned evil under a Christian upbringing.
- America was founded on Secularism, it was part of the belief and understanding that religion should not interfere with politics. Something that has gone terribly wrong in today's world.
- The Crusades? Cause and Effect. Religion A vs. Religion B. Yes, it was a long time ago, but it still had an effect on how the relationships of Muslims and Christians developed.
- Why were women's and civil rights issues to begin with? Why did we have to fight to give them rights that your God apparently gave them from birth, oh wait, your bible doesn't give them rights (1 Cor. 14:33b-36 NIV to name one of many). Oh and do you have a slave at home? The bible says its cool so no worries with that Geronimo.
-Earth said that In God We Trust was enacted in the early 50's, meaning by law. The coins you mention had the motto placed on by religious persons, a century after the Declaration. Those who put it on the coin were not secularists, but Christians in positions of power who knew that they could use a unifying belief, in this case the Christian God, to have a better grasp of control over people.
- What have you to say about turning the other cheek on 9/11? Don't you think that would have been the must Christian thing to do? You really believe that you obey your holy God's command of thou shall not kill, yet support what we did to the Iraqi people? Let me guess you're gonna cherry pick a story of how Jesus threw a table over.
I suggest you stop being a prick and understand what Earth was saying about Cause and Effect and how our actions, especially as a "Christian Government" have immense weight and seriously piss off other people. You're an idiot. What a laugh you'll be on the forums.
Wow, Kendama, you're not sounding like one of God's chosen people. Jesus will not be happy with you.
If you think that islam is the cause of the majority of terrorism in the world, you are sadly mistaken. I am a christian, but even I know better than that.
Your TWO examples are an adaptation of a *novel* and a serial televised cartoon…FAIL.
Give me some examples of HOLLYWOOD bashing Christians. Come on, you guys p!ss and moan ALL the time about it. Where is it? Give me one. Come on.
Yah, I'll wait…I am not claiming you are lying, I'll leave it to you to judge others, but I am saying you are full of it.
If you don't follow any faith, you may want to just say you're agnostic. Also, just because you "follow a good and moral path" doesn't mean you're Christian. So, if you're defining Christianity on that alone, then I think you should reconsider what you consider yourself… You don't have to be any specific religion to follow a good and moral path. I'm an agnostic, but I've never committed any crimes and I try to live the best I can, not because I adhere to a specific dogma or follow the 10 Commandments. I just know what's right and what's wrong, that's it. I don't need religion to tell me what is, nor do I need it to define myself. I'm okay with not trying to guess if God exists and if there's an afterlife, etc. Because, deep down, none of us actually know. And we weren't there when the Bible was written, so how do we know it wasn't a bunch of dudes sitting around making stuff up?
So, don't let religion define you. : ]
Oh, noooooo, those poor poor Xtians, picked on and abused by mean old hollywood. Thrown to the lions in the Circus Maximus (that would be in old-timey Rome, my ignorant friends) for entertainment of emperors. WAIT! I see the connection… entertainment views Xtians as the enemy because if you stay home praying to your big, nay, COLOSSAL imaginary friend in the sky, you won't come out and spend money on a fantasy, stimulating the economy. You'll be staying home not spending money, entertaining your holy archaic fantasy instead.
What's worse…standing there and watching while violence is done, over and over, and doing nothing…or doing something to stop it. As someone who's worn a uniform, stood on the lip of a mass gravesite and also stared into the eyes of a war criminal enroute to trial, I would hope my God would approve of the valiance of those warriors who step in to halt evil being done, anyway. Or would you insist I be ashamed of that service? Or worse, insist my husband should be ashamed of his, since he's stood, rather, in Iraq?
What I hate is the whining way American christians claim to be persecuted in this country. Just because Jesus said to expect persecution didn't mean that you would be persecuted or that you should go around seeing slights and stereotypes in the media as persecution. You want persecution? Try being a christian in Saudi Arabia, or Iraq these days, or Sudan, or northern Nigeria–I could go on but you get the picture.
Lest ye forget Christians get "good" depictions in film every christmas and easter with thier cult movies like Greatest Story Ever Told and other classics about an angry vengeful god who hated all non-Jews. Plus you guys get hours of sunday morning covering many channels and most of the history channels non-Hitler docs.
Oh logic, why has thou forsaken me?
What is more moronic?
A. KNOWING that everything came from matter that already existed.
B. BELIEVEING that some imaginary father figure in a flowing beard and robe snapped his fingers and created everything OUT OF NOTHING in seven days.
hmmmmmmmmm…. pardon me if I don't tell you which one seems so much more plausible… I'll just hope that you have enough common sense to pick the more sensical one.
Christian bashing from hollywood is easy to understand. Basic Christian tenets condemn homo-sexuality and abortion. Both are reasons liberals attack Christians. If one belittles the believer one belittles the belief. This is not to say said beliefs are right or wrong, only why hollywood attacks those that hold them. They in hollywood do believe them to be wrong. Nuff said.
I must say I think the situation is much simpler than that. Hollywood, and the freakshow that personifies it, simply reflect the sad reality of entertainment… it's a business. These people aren't all evil, conniving, hate mongers with a hidden agenda. They are business people looking to make money. How do they do that? Controversy because it sells. Let's take Seth McFarlane as an example. He does not focus on Christians exclusively. He makes fun of all kinds of people… as long as it will generate a reaction. I agree that there are some in "the biz" who genuinely have a chip on their shoulders with regards to the Christian faith but to assume that they have all intentionally singled out Christians as the "Whipping Boy" of Hollywood just seems to me to be a little naive. I think the bigger question is who cares? Did anyone see "Be Cool"? That movie had nothing to do with any secular denomination and I still found it utterly offensive. Hollywood produces cheap thrills for the masses. They dumb everything down cause apparently, according to them, the masses are a bunch of mouth breathing morons with attention spans that barely hold a candle to that of goldfish. What I think people should be more offended by is the drivel they have been force feeding us for the last 30 years. What ever happened to substance? The passion of the Christ was a ro Christian film, yet it offended many Jewish people. The matrix trilogy was set in a fantasy world yet it somehow managed to offend muslims. I think things would be much simpler if religion was just left out of public forums so that nobody would get offended but that's just never gonna happen. So what is the solution? Laugh it off. Unless you believe that there is some truth to the offensive content then it should not bother you. There will always be crude, offensive, ignorant people in the world but does anybody have the time to deal with them all, or even the energy to set them all straight? Let the ignorant be ignorant. They just make the rest of us look good
Still no sources? I think it's safe to say you've lost this battle.
"Christians are corny, out of touch, lonely creepers who generally end up becoming murderers or rapists…. At least that’s what Hollywood’s taught me."
Nope… not Hollywood… that is what I've observed in every state that I've lived in.
The bible is not an accurate scientific document. It is a fairy tale book from the bronze ages. Please give me an argument from a scientific or intellectual source. Thanks.
Although I appreciate your well written and clearly thought out response, I am simply going to direct you to the idea of the cosmic teapot:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell%27s_teapot
Where do you get your information about the world?
The world doesn't hate Jesus or his followers.
The world dis-likes Christians.
We tolerate you people and your ridiculous ideas like "the earth is only 10,000 years old", and that god is gonna call "Billy Graham home" unless he raises X-Y-Z dollars.
You are DARE-ing to reveal how much you don't actually know about the world.
You probably think Bush was good president as well.
How many Muslim warplanes have bombed your neighborhood today?
How many Muslims have tortured your family today?
How many Muslims got bail-out money from your government today?
It really is as simple as that.
obviously we disagree with your take. Humans are weak, and much damage has been done in the name of all religions. You could very easliy take your flawed premise and attach it to any other major religion- Islam, Buddhism, and the like. Just because some christians abused their earthly powers and are now suffering the consequences, doe not makes our post less wise. Far more people have been slain in the quest for atheism or agnosticism. Sorry your sad- and wrong to boot.
[...] Great piece about Christian-bashing from Steven Crowder, Big Hollywood: Lonewolf Diaries: All Christians are Serial Killers. [...]
was waiting for some easterner- pagan, no doubt- to come up with this dreck. Yes- we civilized the world.
And yes, bad things happened. But all nomadic tribes are doomed to fail eventually, There was no genocide of the Indian tribes; that is revisionist history. No quoting Ward Churchill, either. What happened was called manifest destiny, and the world is a better place for it.
It's the atheists who commit genocide. Wise up…
you gave yourself away with the Hitler/catholic analogy. He was a devout follower of Theosophy and Helen Blavatsky, and was deeply into the pagan Aryan cult. There was no genocide of the American Indians- but here was a conquering of nomadic tribes by civilzed ones, which dates back to time immemorial. Though your post is ostensibly pious, we see through it…
What did we do in Iraq that Jesus would have opposed? Removing a dictator who routinely allowed the spouse and children of a suspect to be tortured and raped until he confessed? Or whose sons tortured and killed Olympic athletes who failed to win? Or who experimented on fellow Iraqis with bio weapons? Not everything went according to plan in Iraq but it has managed to keep most of the radicals pinned down where our soldiers can fight them instead of allowing them to come here and raze shopping malls and schools. I'd much rather have them meet a trained US soldier than a mall cop. Soldiers are asked to do what the public at large is unwilling to do and doesn't even want to hear much about. You can't send the sheep out to fight the wolves, which is why we have to ask some of our own to become wolves.
I disagree on two points. Many of my relatives are Democrat and yet they're Christian, it's the media that tries to tie fundamentalism with Republicanism and even that isn't accurate. And if you disengage politically that's not showing the leadership and commitment that Jesus expects of you. Not all wisdom is from the Bible, Edmund Burke said it well, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." If you do nothing and stay out of the fray, how will you explain that when you're called to account?
Well if there were Swedes doing suicide bombings in the last 30 years then your point would have some merit. Since they tend not to do that, then your point falls flat. Muslims on the other hand have a documented history of being rather cranky and doing things like that.
On the other hand finding a movie made in the past 30 years where Muslims were actually the perpetrators and not the pawns of some rich white guys, that's an even harder trick. I demand more Hollywood accuracy here, enough with the red herring or middle management Muslim terrorists, show that they too can be the evil mastermind. Next year on "24" I'd love to see the early keystone cops terrorist plots that get foiled be the work of patsy, pasty defense contractors, and the big bad in hour 24 be revealed to be some radical nutjob with a scimitar, turban and aversion to unveiled women for a change. That'd really be a twist wouldn't it? But you wouldn't like that much either would you?
I hate to nitpick, but if you want to 'disenfranchise' yourself, that means giving up suffrage. I think the term you meant to use was disassociate.
Guys, there are many reasons Hollywood does christian bashing.
1) They're the majority. Much as how making a joke at white people's expense is not all that offensive, making a joke about christians is not offensive because it's really not going to change the fact they're in charge of the whole country and indirectly the world. Whereas picking on muslims, a tiny minority who are desperate to fit into a country that often rejected them post 9/11, actually can carry some real consequences for their community (i.e. hate crimes). And people are still scared of them! I mean, read all the replies on this thread that are like "THEIR CULTURE IS EVIL AND THEY EAT THE BABIES OF UNBELIEVERS!!!!111"
And Jews have an intense fear of being mocked that's been somewhat burned into their culture since they've been screwed over so often in history.
2) Their beliefs have become politicized, and many people associate that christianity=a bunch of crazies who you want you to live your life the way they tell you to. Many people strongly resent this social conservatism that limits their rights that infringe on no one else's rights.
(And don't rebut this by launching into a tirade about how current economic liberals infringe on your rights, because that's less about individual rights and more about the idea that poor people de facto have less rights and chances to succeed and that aid is necessary to offset that. Completely different arguments)
It is ridiculous and narcissistic to think that liberals hate christians because they "believe in right and wrong" as I've seen numerous times in this thread. People do have different ideas of what right and wrong are. Get used to it and stop being so insular to the point that you believe other people are immoral if they're not christian. Anyone with a decent bit of worldly experience will realize that such a claim is moronic. Yes, some people have more relativistic morality. That is not amoral or immoral. It's just different
And yes, you don't need a God to have a system of morality. Really, you just need to have a respect for the human race (which I'd argue most people naturally do, unless they live in squalid conditions). Hell, even dogs apparently have a system of morality, as dogs that play unfairly rough will become ostracized by other dogs (look it up, it was a recent nytimes article I believe). And ants do too! Worker ants that try to value themselves over the community by laying their own eggs (which is possible in some species) will discover that their eggs are smashed by police ants.
And this whole weird perma-martyr state that many of the Christians on this board practice needs to stop. You are not hated because of all of your beliefs or because you believe in Jesus (man, I can't believe people wrote that). Really, if you followed only what Jesus said and ignored the rest of the bible you'd be pretty loved. Instead people are hung up on the strangest dogma and take it as their personal mission to force it on other people (you'll notice that in movies like Carrie or Hairspray this is also exactly what the "evil Christian" is doing).
Also christian jokes are really easy and a good crutch for weak writers who have trouble with consistent characterization or writing jokes actually related to the plot (like Seth MacFarlane!)
Christians didn't do Jericho, they didn't exist for another 1,100 years or so, and conversion was never an issue in what happened there.
Revelations is a prophesy of the future; where our world is headed. Christianity's code to live by is peaceful; ie turn the other cheek. Muslims believe that it is their duty to rid the world of everyone who doesn't believe like they do. Where are you getting your information from?
Excuse me, but you failed miserably in your reply to me.
- Where did I claim that a person "raised under [my] God" means that they will be good? Nowhere. Where did I even mention athiests? Nowhere. I simply pointed out a fact known by every serious historian – that Hitler's nominal Catholic upbringing had absolutely nothing to do with his Nazi beliefs and policies. In answer to your rather silly question, Hitler became evil the same way all evil people get that way: he chose it.
-Please, quote one serious historian that claims America was founded on Secularism. Good luck. However, you will find plenty of historians that will back up my appraisal.
-On the Crusades, you clearly do not pay attention to scholars who specialize in that era. You also do not seem to have grasped that the Crusades were a defensive response to Muslim aggression.
-Please name the "secular" countries that were ahead of the US in the area of women's rights. While you're at it, explain how, if the founders of the US were "Secularists", they allowed slavery to flourish in the US (Therefore, either 'secularism' is OK with slavery, or the founding principles were religious. Which is it?). Please explain why slavery was an institution that flourished in every human civilization, religious and secular, until the fight to end it was undertaken by Christians. Yes, Christianity could live in a world with slavery. It also provided the impetus to end it.
-YerMom claimed "that the use of God on our money….was enacted in the early 1950's by Eisenhower", a claim I easily refuted with information from the website of the US Treasury. You did not and cannot refute anything I said on the subject, but did manage the silly charge that the motto's appearance was to "control the people", rather than the Treasury's claim that it was due to increased religious sentiment during the Civil War.
-Should the US have "turned the other cheek" after Pearl Harbor? You clearly have no knowledge in Just War theory. Whether the Iraqi war met the criteria of a "Just War" is denied by many. However, you did not care to ask my opinion, but instead, like the intellectually lazy person you are, you ascribed one to me.
Nice handle, by the way. About what one should expect from someone with little education (seriously, what community college did you flunk out of?) and an even smaller amount of sense. All you have demonstrated is ignorance and name-calling; in the end, that's all you have.
Oops. It wasn't YerMom I was replying to originally, but Earth. Hard to keep the handles of all these fools straight.
Tell people in Northern Ireland how nonviolent Christians are.
miniscule compared to death by the laws of Kings, miniscule compared to death by the utopian society of Atheists, miniscule compared to the death by the hands Islamic Slave Warriors…. and on and on…
the Mayans sacrificed 70,000 humans in one ceremony. I say, convert to Christianity or freaking die!
Paul Hill was a member of Operation Rescue, the largest pro-life organization in the USA. Members of Operation Rescue prayed with him before his execution and probably assisted in his crimes. Eric Robert Rudolph, another pro-life terrorist, was also a member of Operation Rescue. Roudoph was far more successful in his string of clinic bombings injuring hundreds of people. He was directly supported by Operation Rescue with money, weapons, target lists, fake identity papers, etc. Operation Rescue ran a string of "safe houses" for him and other terrorists.
"You know, I used to be just like Seth MacFarlane, talking down Christians at every opportunity."
"I have nothing against atheists or people of OTHER [emphasis added] faiths"
So you converted to Christianity and NOW you think that Christians are somehow "persecuted".
Imagine that.
B) is not theism or Christianity. It is a philosophical position called "deism". Look it up.
C) Believing that a 1st century Jewish peasant created the universe.
Christians believe in C, not A or B which are both fairly reasonable philosophical positions.
"Christians don't do 9-11's. To anyone. Anywhere."
9-11 was a unique incident, Muslims don't "do" 9-11s either.
Christians DO commit bombings, look at Northern Ireland.
Christians commit horrible war crimes, look at Serbia or our own soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Christians have committed suicide bombings in Israel.
"And what part did the Muslims play in that little skirmish?"
Defending themselves against crazed cannibal invaders?
"Later on, the Romans herded Christians into the circus and sicced the lions on them. Those they didn't burn. I suspect Christianity spread all over the world as Christians fled trying to find a place in which they'd be safe."
Frightfully ignorant. The Romans did not burn Christians. The reason some Christians were executed was not because of their "morality" but because they Christians refused to honor Roman gods or pay taxes. MOST Christians in the 2nd-5th centuries followed Roman law and weren't executed.
"Was it because they were inherently aggressive or is it just that "paybacks are hell"? "
Why should this matter to a religion supposedly built on nonviolence? You'll find that ALL early Christian church fathers (2nd through 5th century, all the Apostles) taught that Christians weren't allowed to use violence in any form, ESPECIALLY self-defense. This is WHY they were martyred by the Roman Empire.
Church leaders CHANGED the Christian faith in the 5th century to accommodate Roman morality (Christians taught non-violence and poverty up to this point) They shifted the focus to mere belief in the Trinity (another concept invented in the 5th century). They made these changes to make Christianity more appealing to the Roman public.
Everything you picked was Old Testament and applies more strongly to Jews than Christians or Muslims.
It's hard to find much in the New Testament advocating violence because all early Christians were pacifists.
You could certainly argue that most "Christians" today are heretics because they've completely rejected Christ's teachings and values (pacifism, poverty, chastity, isolation). Not to say there aren't REAL Christians out there, look at the Amish.
Thank you all you responded. I should let you know that my original post was in error – a case of crossed wires! I was emailing my hispanic friend Jesus ("hey-suse") about a computer problem – I was trying to find technical support for erasing my Mac.
again – sorry – I'll try to make sure that doesn't happen again.
cheers,
Christians are taught to turn the other cheek. So be it.
Yeah the "Peaceful Muslim Folk" are so peaceful that they are bombing other countries in the name of Allah. A 5 year old could see who the more violent people are. Do your homework before you speak.
I can see the people who LIVE for tearing apart Christianity have descended here. Their life doesn't seem to be complete unless they are quoting the bible in order to tear it apart. Your article must have hit some home-truths. Don't worry about those guys, they seem to go all over the nets saying the same garbage…I wouldn't take it personally.
PHONY, With all due respect, what do you think Lone Wolf is doing here? He's doing something. And yet, you have just come here and screamed that Christians have a persecution complex. A little ironic wouldn't you say? typical, more like it…
As an agnostic, can someone tell me why I should be a Christian?
how about we bring the "army of god" clinic bombers and doctor shooters? the large groups of people going around saying gays are going to burn in hell and they are monsters (is that the caring loving part?) have we forgotten the catholic church's stand on pedophiles? (move them before we get sued) or take a look at the groups involved in the canadian indain school horrors. look at who they were and look at the nuumber of rapes beatings and abuse by them. (they were baptist and protestant groups) maybe there is something about this. its not christians that are bad its the preachers and priests filling thier heads with hate and fear. teaching them that these groups are evil and of the devil so after the later talks about spiritual warfare these simple minded people who have been raisied on this figure "oh well god wants me to do this" hey that sounds alot like the muslim extremeists. IE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_terrorism for just a small listing.
I think you are forgetting that Jesus was a Jew. The Old Testament was his law.
In his own words:
Mathew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
If you think that was not clear enough, he goes on to explain on of the Ten Commandments:
Mathew 15:4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
It would seem Jesus was quite firm in his agreement with the Old Testament.
oh and for those who say PC is why christians arent alowed to say some things think about why that is. its simple they rail against anyone who doesnt fit their preconcived notion of good people. (IE: gay, non-christian, anyone who doesnt want to listen to them talk about how your going to hell because you were born.) oh and while your at it look at the section of the bible that say man should not lie with man you missed a few other sins. 1 eating shelfish is a sin 2 wearing mixed blend cotton wool is a sin????? 3 and the ever famous all adulterers shall be stoned to death. but we will leave those out because we dont want to be stoned and that suit is just right for my trip to red lobster with my mistress on sunday. I dont dislike christians just those that belive that all the rest of us are some kind of evil monsters trying to keep them from spreading thier faith. remember if you treat everyone else good they tend to do the same for you but when you call us godless evil people we tend to distrust your motives and reasons for even talking to us.
I do agree that you could attach this to almost any religion. However this is a MAJOR theme in our Christian history. Your answer has not even begin to touch on the depth of the problems that I simply summarized for you – here on earth against apostates.
Don't forget Kings proclaimed these laws on Christian basis, and with God as their justification for the most part (the majority of Kings).
I am not talking about salvation. I am talking about obedience to Christ's commands. Those are his commands after all.
Those are all forms of American Terrorism through Justified War or Imperialism.
No, its not. You treat Jesus as a god, but really it is Adonai who is the true and only God.
"The way you are describing God is as if he is a bully with self esteem problems. "
I submit:
Exodus 20:5 "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,
Deuteronomy 32:35 'Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, In due time their foot will slip; For the day of their calamity is near, And the impending things are hastening upon them.'
Deuteronomy 32:41 If I sharpen My flashing sword, And My hand takes hold on justice, I will render vengeance on My adversaries, And I will repay those who hate Me.
Joshua 24:19 Then Joshua said to the people, "You will not be able to serve the LORD, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgression or your sins.
Psalm 94:1 O LORD, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth!
Hollywood doesn't hate christians… americans enjoy watching self-rightous bible thumbers get whats coming to them.
The vast majority of americans don't like to be preached to and guess who's doing the preaching in middle America– not the Jews and Muslims— its the wacko's at the 700 club and their army of hypocritical aunties and uncles.
Get a clue. Hollywood isn't the problem. Its the hypocrites like LARRY CRAIG!
Yeah… this pretty much says it all:
http://www.amptoons.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2...
I really do wish there weren't any religions at all. It seems like the most pressing conflicts of nearly any age would be non existent if religion and it's followers weren't so polarized and so headstrong about right and wrong as however is defined by their particularly caste. Not a day goes by that I don't fear for the path of humanity when one persons justification for righteousness is another's justification for evil. There can be no global progress, no humanistic imperative if every step forward leads to two steps back.
Christians are insane. Invisible people in the sky, zombified remains disappearing from caves. Too bad the word logic never comes into play with them. I feel bad for them. They're so lost in a make believe world that they refuse to see what's real. Oh well, they're the ones living their entire life being wrong. That's their problem, not mine..
Yet we all know at least a few movies (COUGH!!! Matrix, COUGH!!!) where the good guys are analogized to Jesus. Get off the persecution trip you whiners. Christians are not being demonized. Rather, the creepy tendencies of some religious folk are being pointed out. This might also be out of your league, but THINK about it. The Evil Christian is counter-intuitive. That's why it makes for such an interesting villain. It's the same premise as the evil leperchaun or the evil clown.
Not that anything is likely to stop those of you who are loony from building up persecution complexes because a few movies fail to kowtow to your religion.
We're not going to go searching for sources that most likely don't exist. Your losing this argument. Show us some sources.
You may be right about hollywood, but who is to say that the bible isn't a fairy tale? God? Give me a break.
You are DARE-ing to reveal how much you don't actually know about the world.
So much for the ACME Deluxe Irony Meter.
god bless the U.S.A.? What makes us so special? Do other countries not deserve this "blessing?" Also, way to go off topic. Who the hell cares what is being played in theaters? How is that relevant to the topic?
Wow, look at all the anonymous trolls. Would be interesting how many of them resolve to the same set of IP addresses. The whole "fling out tons of half-truths and lies to drown out opposition" gets old rather quickly.
Though I'd say the whole "serial killer" bit has one grain of truth. Monsters like that try to blend in, so what would a serial killer try to look like in a typical American community so they wouldn't attract attention? Simple: they'd pretend to be a decent, god-fearing Christian who goes to church, does charity work, etc. Emphasis on pretend, which the various trolls appearing here seem to have deliberately ignored.
Of course, bigots tend to cling to things that they believe will "confirm" their prejudices.
Agreed.
Wow, skimming through these comments, I can't find one argument where a Christian DOESN'T say something about "having the right," "morals," or "-insert pointless bible verse here-".
Perhaps I misunderstood the bible, but wouldn't Jesus love Muslims who murder and turn the other cheek?
What is more moronic?
C. Responding to a false dichotomy based on one person's belief system with a false dichotomy based on your own belief system.
Oh what a wacky place this Universe is, we haven't even left the Solar System yet, and here an anonymous troll who's probably using multiple IDs already thinks he KNOWS the true secrets of reality, AND tries to hide behind claims of "common sense" in some lame attempt at intellectual bullying.
Hubris. Utter hubris.
Christianity is another word for Hypocritical Self-Interest.
Christians can behave as badly as they like because they're all Forgiven in the end.
Christians deserve everything they get.
Spirituality is about YOUR relationship with the Infinite.
Religion is about somebody else interfering with that relationship.
Who's responsible for all this?
Er, I'm afraid I'm responsible for the tedious double-posting.
This message board works differently to what I'm used to and I couldn't find my first post.
Sorry about that. Please forgive me.
this is a joke right?
Many think of 'Christian' as a type of morality or todo or not todo list. Those rules are goals and reminders for the redeemed. True 'Christ believing' is based on a promise from God of redemption and the fulfillment of that promise – the Bible in a few words. The reference 'Christian' – kind of an outsiders identifier – came as a result of what others saw going on, not as the proclamation of the believer (Jesus said to take the low seat first and be acknowledged by the host). Next question, Do you believe in Jesus as redeemer or follow him as moral teacher . . . . or both? – I apologize that this is only a one time comment, good day to you all.
LOL
Claiming victory in an internet debate. Enjoy your trophy!
So you believe in eternal matter. Scientists would disagree with that belief.
Says you. God will school you one day.
Um, actually in all honestly, that statement alone removes any thought of Christianity from the equation. You can't be a Christian and have no Faith. If he means denomination, let him say that. But to say you are a Christian who neither walks, talks, thinks, or has faith like a Christian makes you no brother of mine. If someone said they had a furry tail, barked, and had four legs I would say they weren't a duck. You can't be part of any other religion and not follow that religion, but Christians are demonized for saying the same thing.
I agree that there are extremely conservative views in Christian culture, but the two constants are you have to believe Christ is the son of God, sent to redeem us of our sins, and that you must have faith.
Steven Crowder: The only person who would watch and enjoy the "Left Behind" series.
Also big fail on "McFatlane". This is why he makes money on comedy… and you do not.
Mockery aside, I half agree with this article, media intended only to slander a religion is no longer edgy, however, when a religion becomes ridiculous to the point where jokes are 'beating a dead horse', shouldn't it cease to exist?
That's just logic I'd think. You don't follow Scientology because 1) it was created "fairly recently" and 2) because it has aliens named Xenu. Yet Christians (and every other religion mentioned in this article, and every other!) believe some pretty whacked out stuff themselves. If religion is no longer joke material, that does not qualify for "an anti-establishment uprising". I'm pretty sure once it's down, it's out. Let the old folks in society cling to their values, because every new generation looks at religion with an increasingly raised eyebrow.
how is it major? if your premise is flawed- which it is, by the way- other than a recitation of facts without context, than how can this conversation even continue? we would compare our knowledge and experience against you ANY time; and am not impressed by your phony piousness. In today's society Christians are not a problem, it is the anti-modernists who cling to the 11th century. The problems you supposedly 'summarized' are ancient history, pal-wise up…
Who ever said anything about eternal matter? You just used red herring to justify your own viewpoint.
This is a great way to hurt your own credibility. (as if "Through Him all things are possible." wasn't the most classic and evasive answer I've ever seen.)
The sad thing is you're not even recognizing your own pattern of mistakes. Just because the universe and its origins is a monumental thing to wrap your head around, doesn't allow you to quantify it as "Magic."
Science has redefined many things. The magic of alchemy has been explained with the periodic table of elements. People did not know about the existence of sperm or eggs without science, now we can say with 100% certainty that we can make a woman have 8 children at once (as ethically messed up as that may be) and not have to justify it with "Through Him all things are possible.".
If Christianity wants to be taken seriously it had better be intellectual. The same goes for you.
Yeah, because Billy Bob Jo down in Louisiana doesn't want BARACK *HUSSEIN* OBAMA as his president, because he's accepting of Islam so much that a middle eastern name sends Jesus chills down his spine.
Just because one terrorist act succeeded doesn't mean that other terrorist groups wouldn't want that kind of success on their own targets. 9/11 was luck. I can guarantee you that if terrorism doesn't decline in the next 100 years you'll see an equivalent attack from a different group, and if it's a different religion than "those evil muslims" your convictions will have been flawed.
honestly stupid post…you say nothing, waiting for reaction.
go spend you time getting a better person and the factor religion has nothing to do with it.
And those CATHOLICS, You'd just have to know that they pass secret messages and maybe even mind altering drugs in those confessional boxes -why else would they close them, and the big moves to capture society secretly take place during mass I'll bet, who but members of their own organizations understands latin anyway.
One could tell they are on the side of evil just by looking at all those candles they light to accelerate globalwarming and the extra babies? Why can't they just abort them and save the planet? Did you ever notice how on Palm Sunday they cut down all those palm leaves endagering at least one species.
What do you suppose they really talk about on those retreats? I'll bet that's where they get together and plan their next attack upon America all the while looking smug and sanctimonious. Yep, if we could just get rid of them Christian folks the world would be so much better off.. Just think in terns of all those trees being sacrificed to print Bibles and stuff. Glad someone finally pins them down.
It's funny to read a comment where the writer says he is both "thing" and the antithesis of "thing" in the same sentence. You cannot be a Christian by not following Christ. If you follow your own path, you are not a Christian. The goal of a Christian is subordination of "me" to God – the sovereign ruler of all creation. When people make statements that they are "Christians", but they hold to nothing that Christians believe, they are both ignorant and deceitful. They may be lying to themselves, or they may be lying to everyone else – but they are definitely not Christians.
Christianity is not about following a good a moral path – it is about following the teaching and commandments of Jesus Christ. And in that, Christ demands only a few simple things: 1) Admit that we are incapable of redeeming ourselves – and that we need redemption in the first place; 2) That Jesus came to die for our sins – providing the redemption we need; and 3) That God raised him from the dead – to sit in victory over death, and in judgment over sin. If you believe (by faith) in these things, you are a Christian – no matter how depraved or immoral your life has been. However, if you accept this redemption, your life _will_ be changed, not by your power and ability, but by the power of the Spirit of the Most High. And that "change" will be reflected in a life that bears the fruits of righteousness – which will include a good and moral path, and loving attitude toward others. But living the "good moral life" is not the source of Christianity, it is the result.
It is true that you don't have to be a "Bible thumper" to be a Christian, but if you don't believe in anything Christians believe in, calling yourself a Christian has no meaning. You might as well call yourself "King Tank"…
Leviticus was directed at the Hebrews, not Christians. If you don't understand what that means, thank your public schoooling.
Your cherry-picked quote from Timothy seems to me to be good advice for those Christians who found themselves in that position. In fact, your choice of that Timothy passage exposes your ignorance as to what Christianity is. It also exposes your ignorance of history. Slavery was not invented by Americans by any means. It was a common thing in those days, and the notion of what a slave was differs greatly from what our American experience of slavery was.
Your comment post is probably the weakest anti-Christian post I've read in a long while.
Educate yourself: http://chromatism.net/bloodyborders/
They live for tearing apart Christianity because their main experience with it has been… the mass media and the entertainment industry. Which pretty much proves out Crowder's assertions. Odd how that happens.
1. Directed at ancient Hebrews. 2. Directed at ancient Hebrews. 3. In a notable New Testament passage, Jesus put an end to that by saying, "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."
For the most part, agreed. There are enough creepy fundies out there with persecution complexes that make the majority of the comments on this post possible.
It seems upon my reading, the pointless Bible verses are being posted by the ones trashing Christianity. You do comprehend English, don't you?
We speak in Latin about conquering the world by getting everyone hooked on ambrosia salad, jello molds, and fried fish. Oh, that and the blood of newborn Jewish babies.
True story.
Have you actually seen Carrie? Her mom doesn't quote any actual Scripture in it, she's just one of those paranoid schitzophrenics who make up their own religion. In the book she's probably the typical religious fanatic strawman, but in the movie she's pretty much a believable psychotic, I always thought that was kind of clever.

Muslim fanatics DO do 9-11s, just not exclusively to Americans. They have committed thousands of acts of terrorism, specifically in the name of Allah, constantly. You know perfectly well what other acts I'm talking about and if you don't, then you have no business here.
Nice try, but blaming the victims, and they were a mix across all strata of all types, is typical for terrorist sympathizers.
By the way, we'll have to disagree about how innocent the poor widdo Muslims were 1000 years ago. Because modern Muslim fanatics are known for their support equality for women, educating girls, tolerance of gays and kindness to animals.
Since you imply that Christians were cannibal invaders (Srsly?), I just looked it up and it appears that rtechies ARE on Christian menus!
Lemme' call a Muslim fanatic, they carry the best slice and dice steel known to mankind.
I think it is ironic that in order for you to prove your point and to bring up how Christians are porttrayed poorly in Hollywood, you find it necessary to bash other religions in the process that I am sure you are not a expert in. The ignorance that you are showing in these comments about these other relgions is the same ignorance that you are upset about it.
I believe many are obeying this. I went to an orphanage in Thailand and met many many people that actually stay in Thailand with the orphans and take care of them. That's why there are so many missionaries around the world.
But what about the greater command? To Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind? Matthew 22:37. Where does that fit in? It's greater than to Love others. In order to love people even those who persecute you, is by loving God and being in complete submission to His will.. Romans 11. There is also the spirit of God that gives understanding.. we might read it a gazillion times like many do.. but will not have understanding like those that have been baptized in the spirit. You can only worship God in spirit and in Truth. You need to be born again in the spirit to understand what the bible says.
What you actually know about the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition, apart from what you parrot, could fit in a flea's ear with room to rattle.
No, Steve, they hate Republicans because so many Republicans are Christians. Find a RINO who bashes Christians and the press will lionize him. Until he's out of the primaries and facing an actual Democrat opponent; then he's scum again.
B.S. If there were a scintilla of evidence to prove what you claim, Janet Reno's Justice Department would have been down on Operation Rescue like a ton of bricks. Both Hill and Rudolph were lone-wolves on the fringe of a movement which involved millions of non-violent activists. Neither were members of Operation Rescue.

As a Christ follower, I hope to shed some light on the issues most of you seem concerned about. I'll try to keep it short and to the point. Disclaimer: If you "don't want to hear it," please stop reading.
First, those who claim to be Christians must profess a faith in Jesus Christ, son of God. The truths we believe in are defined ONLY in the Bible, the word of God.
Unfortunately, there are people who say they are Christians but do not practice what they read in the Bible (or fail to read the Bible at all). This is where the image of Christianity becomes very distorted. There are folks who attend church every Sunday, complete the traditions of the "religion," give money to the needy, never swear, wear their WWJD bracelet even in the shower, put a fish on their car bumper, but are not followers of Christ because they miss what's written in God's word through Jesus' teachings. It is not my intention to dig some of the more popular ways people prove they're Christians. If we instead took Jesus' second command, "Love your neighbor as yourself," a bit more seriously and critically made Jesus' life a guide for what we do and say as Christians then I think fewer followers of Christ would be labeled as slanderous.
Last point: those of us who do try to make Jesus' life a guide for what we do and say still make mistakes. We act irrationally, we judge people, we lie, we steal, we murder, we cheat, we fail. Any "christian" who has fooled you to think otherwise has also been misled. The only thing that makes us different from anyone else is that our faith in God sustains us – and we want to share the love we feel with anyone we meet.
I pray that those of you who believe in some fashion that all Christians are serial killers, or at least arrogant fools committed to forcing faith down your throats, will be moved to seek out the truth for yourself.
Big deal. I'm a Christian and I don't care if they make fun of my religious beliefs. This is a free country and I think everyone has a right to their own opinions. Didn't your mother ever teach you that bigots are just stupid and ignorant people that should be ignored?
