The Obama Hollywood Fallout
by Rodney Lee ConoverGood news for anyone connected to President Obama: Hollywood may soon be calling.
That’s right, not just the rich, famous or politically connected; but your average, everyday working person with some sort of connection to the newly installed First Family could very well be on their way to big-time celebrity.
Because according to The Hollywood Reporter, a company called, ‘44 Blue Productions’ is pitching a reality show to cable networks, starring one Johnny Wright — who has been Michelle Obama’s hairstylist for the past year. I figure this is good news for lots of folks.
For instance, when Tony Rezko is released, he could get his own series. It could be one of those improv shows, called “Who’s Land is it Anyway?” It could be on Fox, right after, “Prison Break.”
And who wouldn’t watch “Blast or No Blast?” with Bill Ayers? One of those hot models opens the wrong briefcase and BAM! Big ratings, but so much for the live audience, eh?
On Thursday nights though, families across the nation would be huddled around the television, because no way are they missing the best show of all: It’s “America’s Next Top Bigot,” starring The Reverend Jeremiah Wright Junior. Contestants spew hatred, bad-mouth the US and then everyone pretends they don’t know who the hell they’ve been hanging out with for 20 years. The winner gets a tax cut, but really – who cares – 95% of us are getting one anyway…

Obama has not been president a week and already I have seen Obama based specials on NatGeo channel about Obama and Air Force One, Animal Planet channel about what dog the Obamas should invite to live with them in the White House on Dogs 101, SO many more puff pieces on the morning shows than they had on Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton, and Bush 2 COMBINED, and commercial spots for news about the magnificent Obamas.
Hollywood may come calling. But I fear overexposure ennui will be setting in soon.
Obama plays to the camera like no other political figure I have ever seen. He is always aware of where the camera is and always make sure that he looks and sounds “presidential”. I think all of the Obama based specials are there to give us the illusion of transparency, but in reality he and his handlers are controlling and staging every moment. It is downright Orwellian to me. I think I will go back and re-read “1984″ again, just to prepare myself the coming years. I might throw in “Animal Farm” too, for good measure.
‘America’s Top Bigot’~ you are soo funny! I am so sick of the fawning media over this arrogant underachiever, I may take up drinking! He is on the cover of so many mags, it’s ridiculous. He is even on the cover of Wine Spectator magazine! This mag is for people who know wine and the article merely talks about how Obama has a wine cellar!!! Not a word about actual wine! Grrrrr!

I didn’t vote for him, because I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him. With that said, ever President is trained by his handlers to look and sound Presidential. The POTUS’s every move and every minute of the day is scheduled. It has happened for some time now and that is just part of the office. Now his press people are giving us the illusion of transparency, and that is concerning to me and should be for all of us.
I say that whatever Hollywood can do to overexpose Ubama so that everybody gets sick’n'tired of seeing him is, as Martha Stewart would say, “a good thing.”
He already pissed off the White House press corps, repeatedly. Quite an achievement in less than a week in office. Let’s see, when was the last time an arrogant narcissistic Democrat was elected President after being embraced by Hollywood? What happened with him and the press?
Multiply by 10 = Obama.
I don’t know what “it” is, but it’s coming, and it’s going to be very, very nasty and he’ll have set up the fall perfectly.

You might also want to re-read “Atlas Shrugged” as it seems we are living in it.
An All Obama channel?
Sounds like a great idea. I’m sure it will be a smashing success, just like Al Gore’s channel “current”
What, never heard of “current”? Neither has 99% of the rest of America.
Of course, Al Gore’s channel had to generate its own revenue…I’m sure somebody on Obama’s team will find a way to build this into a “PBS-2″ with taxpayer money.
Lola: I don’t know about the NatGeo Air Force One special being previously broadcast. I just know it was advertised with a clip of Obama, the implication being that it was a show about Obama and his Presidential Plane. If it IS an old program it is being advertised with either an added update on the end, or, at the very least, with a teaser containing President Obama.
So much of tv is recycled, you are probably right that it is an old show.
Payne Hertz,
OMG you’re so right! The current economic crisis is ALL MY FAULT!!
I’m so sorry. Seriously.
One little thing though. You said: “Why don’t you get on with your tiny little lives and quit worrying about what everyone else is doing.”
Aren’t YOU the one consuming your time by trolling and commenting on a blog that espouses ideals diametrically opposed to your own?
May I ask, (in my best pretentious Olbermann voice) “is YOUR house in order sir?”
More Obama. Please.
It’d be awesome. Ratings would plummet .
More Olberman as well.(except on Sunday night football. That’s killin’ me. Seriously, Costas, Patrick, AND Olberman?!)
Let their views be heard. It’ll be good for the country.
You too, trolls. Keep on a-talkin’.
The media and hollywood have committed suicide over Obama. There days are numbered. Just sit back and watch!
Carolyn,
With my luck it won’t be Ann throwing the hammer, but Glenn Beck, squeezing his giant hemorrhoided tuckus in those tiny red shorts (shudders), throwing the hammer, reciting a 30-minute poem he wrote, and crying. While I appreciate his passion for this country, is there any man out there that cries in public more than Glenn Beck?
Hey leave Glenn Beck alone. He’s a great commentator, so what if he cries and is not afraid to show emotion. What’s wrong with that? Is it wrong because that’s what everyone has been taught or is it wrong because that’s how YOU really think. Step outside of the box for a minute and decide on your own which one it is.
Tank,
There’s a difference between “not afraid to show emotion” and overly emotional.
Glenn Back cries so much on his show that it takes away from moments that may otherwise be truly touching. It’s like eating ice cream for dinner every night. After a bout a week, ice cream is no longer a treat, it becomes commonplace.
Now you can say that I’m old fashioned or was “taught” by wrong-headed people, but adults, especially men, should be able to keep their emotions in check the majority of the time.
And, in this modern Metrosexual society in which we live, where men are encouraged to be as feminine as possible, which one of US is REALLY living in a box.
Think a minute, and decide, mmmkay?
p.s.
I’ve got nothing against Glenn, other than his being a sissypants girly face.
Ideologically, I find myself in lock-step with him on the Constitution, Civil Liberties, Family Values, Patriotism, Education, etc. I married into a family of Mormons too, so I even have a better understanding of his religious beliefs than most.
But, given the choice, I’d rather hang out and play video games or shoot pool with other conservative radio pundits like Phil Hendrie, Dennis Miller (and Sal), Steve Czaban, Tammy Bruce, Jerry Doyle, or Bill Handel — than Mr. Beck.
But I’m light-hearted like that. Beck just takes himself too seriously for my taste.
i saw a report on the guy who proposed to his girlfriend at the inauguration.
need to start a pool on how long before this gets made into a movie. nora ephron is desperate for a new gimmick.
Obama is very much a celebrity president. I still can’t refer to this guy as president, I never got a sense of why I should cast my vote for him because he’s clearly not qualified and doesn’t have a sound understanding of the issues other than the occasional speach about how we ’should work together’ or closing Guantonomo. It’s seems the work is just annoying to him when he talks about it.
Worse yet, I have to listen to idiot celebrities who don’t make hit movies, yet still seem to find work in big budget films talk about how ‘were all Americans now’. You know, if you didn’t care about what happend on 9/11 because you didn’t like the president or whatever, go to hell. I can’t stand watching Jamie Foxx talk about this guy with his stupid sun glasses. He was actually funny and entertaining when he was dragging around a dead dog and before he tried to get a convicte guilty killer off.
I think your opinion is a bit biased! Please don't take it personally!
