Anne Hathaway Demands Explanation For Rick Warren
by Rodney Lee ConoverI’m not one of these guys that say actors, celebrities, talented musicians or The Dixie Chicks should shut up and not chime in on political issues. Trust me, when I become rich and famous this fall, I’m gonna be screaming like Chuck Noland making fire about everything political. So I think it’s great Anne Hathaway’s speaking out. By the way, is it me, or do her eyes follow you around the room when you walk by?
Now imagine Obama’s schedule when he finally becomes president: He’s gotta talk to Hamas, he’s gotta talk to that dude in Iran, he’s got the bench press challenge with Putin…Don’t you love saying that guy’s name? They should hire Ed McMahon to announce him whenever he enters the parliament building: “HEEEEEEERE’S PUTIN!” (And Ed could use the rubles too – it’s a win-win).
Anywhoozer, before any of that happens, Barack Obama MUST have a sit down with Anne Hathaway and, as she said in Palm Springs recently; “Explain that choice of Rick Warren!” That is bold, Ms. Hathaway – but it doesn’t surprise me because this is the same person who dared to fill the pumps of the great Barbara Feldon. Wow! Now there’s a woman! Do I love Barbara Feldon, or what?
I pick up a paper once in a while and I’m reading all the time about the trouble in the Middle East - and I have the solution: Barbara Feldon. That’s right, if we send 99 over there and get her in between everybody those hostilities will stop faster than payment on a Raffaello Follieri personal check.
Remember when Clive Owen was carrying the baby with the Fuji woman down the steps and out of the building in the middle of all the fighting between the British and the uprising? All the soldiers and immigrants and Fish rebels trying to kill each other, stop dead in their tracks to get a look at the baby? It would be just like that.
Now imagine Barbara Feldon with the legs and the little haircut, struttin’ up and down the Gaza Strip. I’m telling you the warfare would grind to a halt watching that… Man – O – Manischewitz, that is one hot Control Agent… Barbara Feldon… mmm. So… um, what was I talking about?

The rewritten 99 was the worst part of the “Get Smart” remake. It’s like we can’t have smart, sexy women who treat men with respect anymore; they have to be rewritten as incessant nags. It was a shame, because the rest of the movie was fun.
But anyway, I’m so glad the star of “Bride Wars” is deigning to share her theological insights with us.
As a die-hard fan of the original Get Smart series (I’m 25 but I watched the show when it aired on Nick at Night circa 1991), I thought the new film was surprisingly not terrible. (Talk about damning with faint praise.) I just remember wishing that they’d cast Catherine Bell as Agent 99. She and Carrell worked together on Bruce Almighty, she knows how to use a gun, and she’s hot!
OMG that photo of Hathaway is awful. Bleah. First off a girl who has made one decent movie and is the darling of the shallow set should shut her trap. If she doesn’t like Rick Warren then maybe she should also ask Obamawan why HE didn’t support Gay Marriage. Hmmmmkay?
I don’t like Ann Hathaway anyway. She was the part of the Devil Wear Prada that made me cringe. Her facial expressions..guhhhhhhhhh. Shudder.
Mr. Conover,
Once again you show yourself to be badly in need of a copy editor. Your misuse of commas and semi-colons is staggering. But then, so is your dumbing down of political issues. Does Big Hollywood emply a copy editor? C’mon, dude!
Not to be too personal or anything, but: am I the only one who thinks that Ann Hathaway’s eyes are just a little bit toooo large for her face? And then, she draws a line around them and makes them even larger! The hard red of her lipstick doesn’t help matters either. In my humble opinion, Ann should take to heart those dear old sayings, “less is more” and “silence is golden.”
Also, note, I have taken Breitbart’s plea to heart and putting out my whole and real name; with the recent plethora of “Heathers” posting here and there, it seems to be the smart thing to do.
Who does this jumped up trollope think she is: Mrs William Shakespear?
Can we demand what and when she knew about her former fiancee? Shut up and act Anne.
Hathaway actually has a valid (in her own right) beef as to why she is protesting Rick Warren-her brother is gay and married (her brother was married in New York-dont know if the recognize gay marriage). From I have read, she plans on attending the inauguration and wearing some sort of “anti Warren” ribbon. Funny though. You would think that since Obama was the one who CHOSE to have Warren at the event that she would be just as vocal and critical of him when speaking to the media. You would also think that Hathaway would not want to attend the inauguration at all if her feelings about this particular issue were truly as strong as she lets on.
“OMG that photo of Hathaway is awful. Bleah.” You took the words from my mouth. She looks like a ventriloquist’s dummy. Say, you don’t suppose . . .?
Maybe Rick Warren can demand an exlanation for Anne Hathaway. She originally said she would be turning her back during the invocation, but now she has deigned to face forward. I am so relieved.
Now you know how we felt every time Chuck Heston talked about the Second Amendment.
Dear Jaxon;
You certainly have an eye for detail and are on pretty solid ground when critiquing my posts. I bow before thee.
Example: Does Big Hollywood “emply” a copy editor?
Staggeringly yours;
Rodney Lee (Mr. Conover is my dad)
As Syd said, “…Show Syd the ‘fugee face. Sad face. Sad ‘fugee face.”
Well, that would be an apt comparison, except that Chuck was hired to talk about the 2nd Amendment, so it was kind of his job. Anne isn’t talking about a policy, she’s making a moral judgment on a single individual and saying he shouldn’t be allowed to speak because he has the SAME OPINION as Obama (the guy she positively wets herself at the mention of).
Being a Liberal means never having to actually think out your opinions.
Re: “emply.” Maybe your copy editor is avaiable? It is apparent that you have “dumbed up” MR. C’s very entertaining post.
By the way, is it me, or do her eyes follow you around the room when you walk by?
Annie’s image was used for the hologram inside the glass dome at the beginning of The Haunted Mansion ride in Disneyland. I’m sure of it.
Harley
“Now you know how we felt every time Chuck Heston talked about the Second Amendment.”
I’m willing to wager Heston understood Constitutional Law far better than Hathaway understands the Bible.
It is apparent that you have “dumbed up”
MR. C’sRodney Lee’s very entertaining post. There, fixed it.
… will stop faster than payment on a Raffaello Follieri personal check..
Snap, Rodney Lee!
Des, very insightful. But the larger complaint is about movie stars exercising their free speech rights about political issues, or yes, making their moral judgements public. When you agree with them, it’s not a problem. When you don’t? They’re vapid thinwits who should keep their mouths shut.
Which is both convenient and hypocritical.
Take your time. Think it out.
Not only that, but now President Elect Obama says that, aw shucks dog-gon-it, we may not, you know, be able to shut down the Gitmo prison in the first, um, 100 days of his administration. You know, because, um, there are, well, some, well, you know, dangerous people down there. And, you know, because we can’t, sort of, just let them go because, well, they might go all jihad on us or something. And bringing them to someplace within, uh, the United States might, you know, sort of, cause some problems with the local subj, I mean citizens, who live around that, you know, facility might be a little, concerned about having those people in their, you know, um, backyard.
Mark, I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Heston has an affable and effective spokesman for the NRA. That, however, doesn’t make him an expert on anything, the Second Amendment included. But my larger point is about the hypocrisy displayed when the same folks bleat every time an actor voices a liberal/left opinion, while remaining silent, if not adoring, when an actor offers one they agree with.
Like Scott DS, I too am a younger fan of the original Get Smart thanks to Nick-at-Nite, and Agent 99 was one woman I always admired! Tough yet feminine, and always supporting her guy, Max, without being disparaging.
Ms. Hathaway is just furthering the negative stereotype of the liberal mindset that being ‘open-minded’ is ok as long as it is applied to their opinions on issues…but not the other way around.
I’m guessing that Anne Hathaway has no problem with Jeremiah Wright.
This isn’t the first time Hathaway has pontificated on issues far, FAR outside her little “tiny head, bird brain, bird beak, vacant stare” world.
She should go back to second rate beauty pageants.
Harley, feel free to think of a single instance where a Conservative or Republican stated that a Liberal shouldn’t be allowed to speak because they didn’t agree with them (even though they believed the exact same thing as the person hosting the event, who the protester adores), and I’ll let you know if I agreed with it or not. At the moment I’m drawing a blank as to ever having seen it.
If Anne wants to push for gay marriage, she has every right to do so (and I would just happen to support her). However, since she supports Obama but attacks Warren for the same opinion, I have to assume she just hates Christians, which I don’t find a particularly helpful opinion.
If she said she hated black people or gay people, would you be on the board defending her being allowed to speak her mind without facing criticism for those thoughts?
Take your time, think that out.
She has the misconception she’s special. Her choice in men tells it all.
Harley:
The larger issue is Charlton Heston’s lengthy tenure as president of the NRA and his reasoned, eloquent expression of his belief in the Second Amendment in juxtoposition to Ms. Hathaway’s vapid expression of her need for Obama to “explain that choice of Rick Warren!”
Not the same. We know Heston’s position on the Second Amendment. What is Hathaway’s objection to Warren? What has she said about her position?
Conover’s essay emphasized Hathaway’s lack of gravitas and her inferior legs mostly.
But Obama’s a Christian too! Really! I know because he said so his very own self. And he went to that church where he was there every time the sermon was sweet and innocent and not there every time it was profane and hateful. See how God guides him?
OK, I’ll bite!
Who’s Anne Hathaway that I/you should care what delusions she’s suffering under.
Actually, I have really never heard of her, should I get out more often?
Re: the Get Smart references, Feldon’s 99 was only a foil for Adam’s 86, why is she so important here? Just a kinda cute skinny actress.
For the gold standard of this genre, you’ll have to find a “Laugh-In” DVD and revel in Goldie Hawns talent, politics aside. Great other female comedic talents there, just don’t fulfill the cute skinny scenario.
Coincidence? Somehow Charlton Heston has been dragged into this commentary and I just finished watching “El Cid”. Go figure!
Anne Hathaway hasn’t really “aged” well. I know she’s like only like 12 now, but she looked a lot cuter in Princess Diaries. The last half-decade hasn’t been kind.
Amen, Sister Gina!
I think everyone should listen to Anne – I mean, she’s been proven to be such an excellent judge of a man’s character. Not.
[...] is that Madonna and her pals in the entertainment industry are typically a lot more exercised with Rick Warren’s involvement in the Obama inaugural than with the existential threat that radical Islam poses to the West and a way of life that allows [...]
Des, it ain’t that complicated. She’s making a political as well as moral judgement. She doesn’t think it’s appropriate to have Warren at the inaugural. (And it’s worth noting that Warren’s opinions re gay men and women — he won’t let them be members of his church, for example — are quite different than Obama’s, tho’ not, as you point out, with regards to gay marriage. Tho’ again, it’s worth noting that Obama opposed Prop 8.)
I’m going to assume the ’she hates Christians’ line of thinking is more joke than thinking. Cuz it has very little to do with her recent statements.
Back to you!
Texacali Rose, here’s the offending statement, made in response to a question while on the red carpet at a film fest…
“I expect him to explain that choice of Rick Warren. I don’t get it. All my friends and I were trying to figure it out, but we just can’t. So I’d love that. But other than that, I expect nothing but the best.”
That’s it. She’d love to hear Obama’s reasoning. Many people did at the time. As for her personal reasons, I’m assuming Warren’s comparing gay marriage to incest and polygamy didn’t sit well with her, particularly as her brother is gay.
“Heston has an affable and effective spokesman for the NRA. That, however, doesn’t make him an expert on anything”
It’s interesting you mention he was the spokesman and leave out that he was the President of the NRA. For 5 yrs he was often on the Hill testifying before congress and such. He also wrote at pretty great length. Everything I’ve ever read of his came across as well informed and aware. So I’d call him an expert. Now, of course, you may be saying he’s not an expert because he disagrees with you. In that case I’d say that’s a pretty myopic view
It’s also interesting to note that Heston was a loved democrat up until he decided that the democrat party had left him (much like what happened with Reagan). He was apparently good enough that the democrats wanted him to run for the senate at one point, but of course as soon as he wouldn’t follow them, they did their best to downplay all those positive things they said about him and tried to paint him as “bad”. So I would be careful when talking about double standards and hypocrisy
The problem here isn’t that Hathaway is talking about politics; it’s that she’s jumping up and down, shouting “I’m an idiot!”
I mean, what’s to explain? Isn’t it entirely unremarkable that a self-described Christian who opposes gay marriage on religious grounds would have the prayer at his inauguration be made by a self-described Christian who opposes gay marriage on religious grounds?
If you voted for, worked for, donated to, endorsed, or otherwise made an effort to ensure Obama got elected, well, you got exactly what was on the label; a man who told you, every single time he was asked, that he opposed gay marriage on the basis of his religious belief.
It’s perfectly fine not to want a sugary cereal, but only an idiot specifically picks out a box of Frosted Flakes at the store, buys it, takes it home, and then starts complaining that the flakes are covered in sugar. Similarly, don’t work to get an opponent of gay marriage inaugurated and then complain that someone opposed to gay marriage is going to be speaking at the inauguration.
OK Harley, first, Warren does not discriminate against gays (male or female). You need to do better fact checking. In fact, I’ve never seen a Church that does (although to be fair, I’ve only attended a couple-dozen). He has an outreach program specifically tailored to gay people who are seeking help and/or spiritual guidance (and no, not one of those that tries to “fix” gay people). He has repeatedly said that there is no prerequisite for joining his church, and that homosexuality (although preached against in the Bible) is no worse than adultery or any other sexually related sin. He’s pretty moderate on the issue as preachers go, and his only hang up is the word marriage (which again, happens to be the same problem Obama, Hillary, and every other Democrat I can think of has).
Second, Warren is taking it on the chin for supporting Prop 8, but in reality the measure would not have passed if not for the overwhelming support among Obama-supporting minorities. Blacks and Hispanics voted against it in a higher percentage than whites, so what Anne really should be saying is that the event should be white-only.
BTW, Obama’s opposition to Prop 8 is just another example of the Barry Obama we know and love here in Chicago. He has said at every conceivable opportunity that he’s opposed to gay marriage, yet he says he’s against the people voting to make it illegal (and not against the courts forcing people to accept it). I believe that’s his 157th ‘Present’ vote. I’d respect him much more if he’d say that he’s in favor of it, but alas, it’s not in his political self-interest (at least according to his calculations). Get ready for 4 – 8 more years of this, because the next time he takes a stand on any issue, it’ll be the first time.
You’re right, I was kidding about the Christian thing. Although I know a lot of Liberals who think it’s perfectly acceptable to be Christian bigots, I don’t know if Anne happens to be one of them. I am still scratching my head why you compared her attacking Warren specifically to Heston talking about his interpretation of the 2nd Amendment for his job. Seriously, you have to see the difference between the two.
Please sit down and be quiet.
Why can a Democrat be against gay marriage yet Hollywood gives him a pass? But when a Christian leader or Republican comes out against it, they want to string him up by his toes.
If you’re going to take a position, at least be consistent or else you’ll look rather ignorant and foolish.
I don’t know what any of you are talking about. I thought her great achievement was making Shakespeare go to London and become an actor and later a playwright because he couldn’t stand living with her. What am I missing?
“I expect him to explain that choice of Rick Warren. I don’t get it. All my friends and I were trying to figure it out, but we just can’t. So I’d love that. But other than that, I expect nothing but the best.”
Huh? As I said, vapid. And I repeat: What has she said about her position?
“As for her personal reasons, I’m assuming [emphasis added] Warren’s comparing gay marriage to incest and polygamy didn’t sit well with her, particularly as her brother is gay.”
Warren did not compare gay marriage to incest and polygamy. As Des pointed out above, Warren believes that homosexuality is no greater or lesser a sin than other sexual behaviors proscribed in the Bible.
That many homosexuals have adopted marriage as the cause du jour to ostensibly illustrate anti-homosexual bigotry ignores that today’s churches do not harbor hatred for homosexuals. The opposite is the case, in general.
If one is opposed to homosexual marriage, as President-elect Obama is, he does not necessarily hate homosexuals. Accepting this, however, undercuts the underlying political agenda that has nothing to do with equal rights; any man can marry any woman, no matter which sex he/she is sexually attracted to. Traditional marriage at its core has little to do with commitment to “the person I love.”
Peter Shalen:
Yeah, it’s not like she parted the Red Sea or somthing. ;o)
[Peter said....I thought her great achievement was making Shakespeare go to London and become an actor and later a playwright because he couldn’t stand living with her. What am I missing?]
Personally, I thought her great achievement was being naked a lot in Havoc. Trust me, anyone who could make that movie watchable deserves any accolades thrown their way.
TEXACALIROSE
“Traditional marriage at its core has little to do with commitment to “the person I love.””
I LOVE this quote. Love it to death. I want to cast it in bronze, fifty feet high and one hundred feet wide. With Neon highlights. Bright pink ones.
“Which is both convenient and hypocritical. ”
Kinda, as said above, Hathaway’s “hate the appointee, love the appointer” backflip.
Is this going to be the tactic Obama lovers use for the next four years? We love Obama, hate his decisions?
RLC: Why are you picking on Ms. Hathaway? I for one believe that President-elect Obama had better pay attention to what she says, for the good of America’s relationship with the Kingdom of Genovia.
RLC: Why are you picking on Ms. Hathaway? I for one believe that President-elect Obama had better pay attention to what she says, for the good of our relationship with the Kingdom of Genovia.
well, one thing is for sure.there will never be a shortage of arrogant, obnoxious, blowhards in Hollywood or the entertainment industry in general attacking conservatives and Christians.this reminds me of a “babs” concert, where she stopped and asked the audience who were democrats and who were republicans.there were more republicans than democrats,so she says “I don’t want to turn this into a political event”.I’m saying this because these pompous A-holes in Hollywood and the entertainment industry like Hathaway do not understand,or don’t care that not all those who watch their movies or buy their music agree with their politics or personal beliefs.miss Hathaway needs to understand that as a D-list actress she needs to keep her mouth shut.we the viewers or listeners do not tolerate this BS from A-listers,what makes her think we will take it from a nobody like her.
Well, when it comes to judging their men, Anne H is still a distant second to Arianna Huffington.
And so much for looking to either of them for any other kind of analysis.
Anne Hathaway’s a decent actress. I wouldn’t kick her out of bed.
MOVIEBOB:
I LOVE this quote. Love it to death. I want to cast it in bronze, fifty feet high and one hundred feet wide. With Neon highlights. Bright pink ones.
It sounds as if you’re confusing marriage with Obama’s inauguration.

It seems you’re confusing marriage with Obama’s inauguration.
Ha ha ha. This article was funny.
I thought Anne Hathaway was the name of the banker’s secretary on the Beverly Hillbillies.
But, from this article, and that’s all I have to go by, it appears as if this Anne Hathaway is merely asking Obama, “wut up with inviting Rick Warrren?” You have to admit, it is kind of odd. So I’ll hazard an answer. Obama invited Warren to demonstrate he’s inclusive, uncomfortably inclusive. In that sense, he’s showing how to be, to those liberals who fancy themselves open-minded, but in fact are rather parochial and narrow-minded in practice. He will be after all president to both Republicans and Democrats, and presumably president even to those of us who eschew both parties.
Although my words are always worth repeating, the double post was unintentional.
Texacalirose, no need to belabor this, but Warren did compare homosexuality to incest and polygamy while discussing Prop 8, he later backed off the statement when criticized for making it. Like any good politician.
And Warren is a very good politician.
We ALL love Babara Feldon. She draws more sighs than the girl from Ipanema.
MOVIEBOB:
… Warren did compare homosexuality to incest and polygamy …
I’m confused. I did not deny anywhere in our discussion this evening that Warren did say this. In fact, both Des and I affirmed as such. My words:
“Warren did not compare gay marriage to incest and polygamy. As Des pointed out above, Warren believes that homosexuality [not gay marriage] is no greater or lesser a sin than other sexual behaviors proscribed in the Bible.
Not to belabor the issue, indeed, but you’re asking me to concede a point I never denied. No concession necessary. I already gave you that point (one of the few, if any, you “won,” BTW).
It’s been swell, MB.
Harley, I meant to address my post to you. Sorry, MovieBob.
Dear Ms. Hathaway:
I soo totally get what you are saying. I am glad you are brave and don’t think stars should remain cold and distant, twinkling for our amusement. I am glad you reject the adage: “Just shut up and look pretty.”
Your Fan, Californio
P.S. – I think you should be running the bank and not that Mr. Drysdale – and Jethro is NOT the right man for you!!!!
That makes three reasons I haven’t watched the remake. No Don Adams, No Barbara Felton and no Mel Brooks.
I haven’t found Steve Carell particularly amusing in any of his roles and how can you top Mel Brooks for a writer?
I had the pleasure of meeting Don Adams just before he died. He was watering his lawn and I pulled over and started rapping with him about the good old days. What an honest person he was about not knowing if the show would fly, whether the lines were funny and if he would end up working the clubs broke the rest of his life. I wanted to hug him.
The remake was so horrible I cried. I love Carell, but what poor choices he made. And poor Anne H. couldn’t hold Babs jockstrap. They even screwed up the characters of Siegfried and Larabee. I wanted to kill myself, but when I shot at my brain, I missed it by that much. Sorry about that Chief.
love all you guys, Rodney Lee
I always thought Ann Hathaway was cute, but in that photo, ugh. That picture looks like it was taken off of that “If they mated” segment on the Conan O’Brien show.
Also like ScottDS and KIMMYG, I too am a young fan (24 years old) of the old Get Smart series. I thought the movie was pretty funny and it didn’t degrade the origional series (like Wild Wild West did) However, the way they portrayed Agent 99 was the worse part of the movie. I also thought Steve Carrell was a great Maxwell Smart.
I would love for super smart Ann to explain why she has such a big problem with Warren who shares Obama’s ,Hillary’s,and Biden’s views against Gay marriage.
But has no problem with her hero Obama’s membership and support of Rev.Wright
who thinks the government invented Aids to kill the black community,we deserved 9/11, and teaches a black separatist theology by Cone that believes this:
Here is a quote from Cone, explaining black liberation theology (hat tip: Spengler, a pseudonymous columnist for the Asia Times):
“Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love. ”
So super smart Ann has no problem voting for a candidate that was a member of a church that supports the genocide of the white race if they don’t conform but draws the line at Rev. Warren because he shares the same beliefs on gay marriage that her hero that she voted for Obama does.
Your head would have to be on a swivel to keep up with the idiocy and hypocrisy of liberals.
I guess there will be about as many gay protest at Obama’s or Hillary’s house and work as there will be anti-war protest while Obama is President.
NONE,zero, nada because they have a (D) beside their name.
[Harley said....Texacalirose, no need to belabor this, but Warren did compare homosexuality to incest and polygamy while discussing Prop 8, he later backed off the statement when criticized for making it.]
That’s a solid point, Harley. Unfortunately, I don’t see how it has much bearing on the discussion (other than that it could get Warren disinvited to the Hathaway Christmas BBQ. While I don’t think being gay makes someone different from anyone else as a person, I do think it’s a genetic defect (or often a personal choice made for questionable reasons). Whether you believe in God who, according to the Bible (actually pretty much all religious texts) says it’s wrong, or you are a Darwinist who must then see that procreation is what we’ve been bred for (so it can’t be part of natural selection unless nature has singled you out to be weeded from the DNA collective), there’s pretty much no way you can look at it as how someone should be (other than emotionally, in which case I completely agree that someone needs to be who they are, not tear themselves apart pretending to be something they’re not).
Incest and Polygamy might be choices, whereas homosexuality isn’t (at least not always), but they are similar in that they’re different from society has always considered the norm. Falling in love with a cousin or believing in multiple partners doesn’t make you evil or perverted, but in this society it does mean you can’t get married under the state (although it breaks no laws for you to pursue your lifestyle privately). Until that definition changes, it’s not bigotry to agree with a policy that has been around since the beginning of time (since no society has ever sanctioned gay marriage). I agree with people like Dennis Miller, who see it as a pointless distinction. I know homosexuals who are some of the best, most loving people in my life. If they want to get married, I’m all for it. I also understand people who want to keep that definition the way it always has been. As long as they refrain from name-calling or discriminating, I will listen politely to their opinion, even though I disagree.
Somehow I don’t think Ms. Hathaway would be able to do the same (despite Liberals ALWAYS claiming to be the tolerant ones. Sorry for being long-winded, but I believe it’s an important point and tends to get clouded by people who want to paint Conservatives or the religious as the bad guys.
Who care what Anne Hatheway thinks? She is nothing but a decent looking actress for crying out loud, not an intellectual. She (and we) would be better off talking about something she knows about, like wearing makeup.
Anne, please just shut up and continue to look good naked. Thanks, sweetheart.
One question: Who the hell is Anne Hathaway? I have never heard of her. Yet another ignorant celebrity who thinks her opinion is the most important one in the world (is she friends with Naomi Klein?). To think Miss Hathaway will be in my hometown next week—I shall fight the six billion lemmings attending the messiah’s inauguration to get her priceless autograph!
I have no problem with her questioning things, as an “Americans” we all should. But she is a confused person who was in a relationship with a woman, found wondering when having a nervous breakdown and now seems to be in better form and health and in a marriage…. but I have to say… She is not my spokesperson and I dont care what she thinks… as some may not care about what I think. “God Bless America”.
Harley, you sound just like a conservative in the way you present your viewpoints. Are you sure you’re a liberal? You sound semi-confused.
And I agree with JDW: Anne, just continue to look good naked. That’s a contribution that the world would greatly appreciate.
Jaxon,
You should proofread before you submit. Maybe you need a copy editor?
When I heard Anne Hathaway make that remark, all I could think was “another Hollywood Knucklehead is born”. This coming from a woman who was “in love” with a Madoff like huckster. She’s a great judge of character.
It’s simple. The liberal agenda (including liberal hollywood)hate anything or anyone who represents
Conservatism and Christianity. Why do you think Sarah Palin was butchered by hollywood as well as the liberal media?
Her Christianity annoyed them. Her “middle” class mentality REALLY annoyed them. How dare ANYBODY from middleclass America attempt to infiltrate our “system”.
Remember folks: The pendulum eventually swings back to the right after a disgusting swing to the left.
Hey Hathaway,
I’d love an explanation from your FIANCEE’S (I GUESS EX BY NOW) MONEY LAUNDERING too !!!
The whole problem with the liberal Hollywood is that americans have given them too much power. Our priorities are all wrong. Why should an actor or actress deserve so much better living than our police officers, military, firemen. People in this country who risk their lives everyday for our safety and well being. They are so against our military. When my son first went to Iraq and I saw those low life actor protestors like Suzanne Sirandan spouting off, I was so angry, this was my son risking his life not them. What would they do if we didn’t have a military. We would be invaded quicker than they can remove the gooped on makeup they plaster their faces with. We need to stop listening to these liberal dreamers. They need to wake up, smell the coffee, and get real before they risk all our lives with their crap.
My older sister had two sons, Michael and David. Michael she named after me. Michael grew into a homosexual and while still in his mid-twenties, died of aids. His older brother David got married, had one or two kids and then committed suicide. Their dad, who while attending the U of Florida, Gainsville, married my sister and impregnated her with David when she was 16,got his education and ultimately threw my sister out and tried unsuccessfully to restrict her parental visitation rights. Everyone has problems.
My sister, who was raised catholic, wants to believe in Christ and yet she wants to cling to this notion that homosexuals are truly just all right with God. Not so as old and new testament scripture both say differently. Christians know we all need to turn to Jesus while yet sinners to receive our pardon and his able assistance in fighting our weaknesses and temptations.
For too many christians, calling on Christ is not the first thing that jumps into their mind when confronted by in your face atheists and/or homosexuals. I, personally, have few friends total but have many acquaintances playing golf, work, etc. who are anti religious, ambivalent about it all, actively homosexual, real live atheists and it matters little in my day to day christian walk. It is that “in your face” wing of both groups of people that create issues and problems. For example, having served nine active Marine Corps years, 1964-73, I can assure you that in the very least, “don’t ask, don”t tell, is a good policy even though it wasn’t around in my time. Gays back then pretty much knew it was best to stay in the closet. My point is, realistically, blanket parties were the rule for homosexuals and thieves back in the day and their numbers seemed to increase with the Vietnam draft. As a christian, born again after my Marine time, I would not particpate in blanket parties today but have my fellow Marines changed that much?
Anne should not ever presume to know more about spiritual matters than a man of God which Rick Warren is. It always amazes when I rediscover a large number of blacks voting democrat because I remember the poster of that little black boy from back then with the caption “Who you calling a democrat?” For some reason, I grew up thinking the black people were spiritually superior hence the amazement I mentioned.
God is no respecter of persons and will certainly kick down any door we try to hide behind at his judgement seat. Be they labeled politics as a defense for how we fail to protect the most innocent and least able to defend themselves, the babies in mom’s womb and how we try to pervert the marriage institution established by God by suggesting that such an abnormalily in nature should be the law of the land. Sodom and Gomorrah tried that….again, it is that in your face stuff.
God asks, “What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and you are not your own, you have been bought with a price….” The purchase price was paid by Jesus Christ at Calvary’s hill and only christians in name only will downplay that fact in the interest of political or social tolerance of any and all sins and abominations.
Rick Warren, is I believe, a born again in the spirit (John 3:3), minister of the gospel. Anne Hatheway while breathing fresh air has the opportunity to avail herself of the free gift of salvation offered by Jesus Christ….other than that, let me quote some french guy “she has missed a perfect opportunity to just shut up”.
I think everyone has a right to speak up and express themselves, but at the same time why wasn’t Ms. Hathaway asking Obama “Why did you attend a church that was so radical and basically blamed the United States for all the social & political ills of the world. Or why he was associated with a domestic terrorist Bill Ayers?
Since 9/11 and the war in Iraq I’ve lost so much respect for the so-called Hollywood elite. They care more about their popularity that actually standing for something…thank God for Gary Sinise!

Miss Hathaway is actually representative of the arrogance of Hollywood. Our economy is in the tank, the Arabs are poising to raise oil-by-the-barrel prices and Hamas has forced Israel to defend themselves; Genocides continue in Darfur and all over Africa, unemployment is up, and American automakers are failing (their fault); a slim majority of Americans have elected the most liberal ideologue to run the country in our history, and we are on the precipice of adopting a Cold War western european socialism. Yet, Miss Hathaway thinks the leader of the free world should stop what he is doing and explain to her why he has chosen a Christian pastor to pray at his inauguration. Perhaps the president should also get her OK on the breed naming of the White House dog. If it is a female I vote to name it Anne . . .

And bringing them to someplace within, uh, the United States might, you know, sort of, cause some problems with the local subj, I mean citizens, who live around that, you know, facility might be a little, concerned about having those people in their, you know, um, backyard.”
Let Max, that is some funny stuff man! And you know, we… uh, won’t be able to you know, that socialized health care uh thing that I was uh, pushing during the uh campaign, well, looks like, you know, now might not be, uh, a like good time to uh do that, you know.
Ah-ha! This story finally explains why I kept wanting Meryl Streep to just fire Hathaway’s a** in “The Devil Wears Prada.”
‘Get Smart’ was disappointing. Anne Hathaway reprising the role of “99″ was as ridiculous as Jennifer Love Hewitt playing Audrey Hepburn. But I digress…
As far as Hathaway’s response regarding Rick Warren – she is an American and has the right to her opinion no matter how off it is.
However, the thing that infuriates me is when actors and actresses actually think that everything they say is so important to the American public.
They should remember that they are in the ’service industry’ – they serve us, although I doubt they would agree. We pay their salaries. We pay them strictly to entertain us, and do not need or want their opinions.
Please, Hollywood, do your job. Smile, entertain us and keep your mouth shut.
It’s not a matter of whether or not Ms. Hathaway has the right to express her opinions. Of course she does. She even has the right to use her fame, such as it is, to expound upon those opinions on a larger stage than that granted to most of us, as if the ability to act conveys some greater political wisdom which must be shared with all of us.
What struck me was the temper tantrum aspect of Ms. Hathaway demanding that the president-elect had to explain anything to her. So she’s got a dog in the hunt—so what?
Rick Warren is a highly respected minister who, by the way, also ran the only decent presidential debate in the whole campaign. Anne can bitch and moan all she wants to because Warren espouses a philosophy with which she does not agree, but to DEMAND an explanation? Get off it, Anne.
BTW, thanks Russ—well said
I hardly know who she was except she had a boyfriend who ripped people off, but after I heard that remark I decided not to go to that new chick-flick of hers. I can’t stand the all-knowing, “cool and hip” Hollywood left telling the rest of us what we should think. Some of these people haven’t even finished High School! They should live in the real world for a while.
I love this!! I’ve sorta missed going to movies the last few years as I won’t spend one cent to see the likes of Danny Glover, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Richard Gere, Anne Hathaway et al…. If a actor has forced me to hear his/her political opinion then I exercise the power I have… I don’t see their movie…not even when it comes to pay per view…not even when it’s free on HBO… They are ALL full of crap!! And for God’s sake, when when when IS Alec Baldwin moving out of the country…!!?? Does he need us to take up a collection to get him started…?
I’m just wondering why everyone gets their nuts in a bunch every time a liberal actor says something…well, liberal. This is how they are, people! They’re perennially annoying like mosquitos. I know, you can’t spray ‘em with Raid. But you can try not to let them get you angry. Be conservative in the public sphere. Come up with some witty repostes. But don’t turn it into a pissing contest. Rosie’s already cornered that market.
P.S. – I would drink Anne Hathaway’s bath water, I don’t care how irritating she is. After I finished with Liv Tyler’s and Mena Suvari’s of course…
I like her mouth, reminds me of the car port my grandpa had for his ol’ ‘70 Chrysler Imperial four-door.
Bugs you’re sick.
I’m not sure why people are so uptight on this. She wasn’t preaching like a lot of them do, because since they are all superstars they have to let us little, stupid people know how to think right. And, I guess maybe coming from their point of view, it does make sense. What do they really do to make all the money they make, and have the lifestyles they live? Maybe we are all stupid NOT to be acting too? LOL!
Besides how can people be annoyed with her, when its the republicans who won’t stand up to the democrats? It almost seems too easy to be upset with her comment.
Yeah, i hate hollywood. I can’t stand watching movies and listening to music because everyone is god damned liberal. I’m like Bugs, I just wanna rape everything that’s hot and liberal. And kill everything else.
I’ll just watch Foxnews, listen to rush and ted nugent and play with my playdoh all day. You know, you can eat playdoh? It taste like cookies!
Anne should be careful! First, she is not set in hollywood stone yet. I don’t even think she’s very talented, personally. One bad movie choice and she’ll be out on her butt (and people will be glad to see it). She already attacked Palin, siting SNL as her source for doing so. I’m glad I don’t get my news or form my opinion on SNL. Hey maybe they can help her select a boyfriend who isn’t a crook!
BTW, I’m with Tanya… I haven’t seen an Anne Hathaway movie since she blurted out her uneducated opinion on Palin recently. That’s my way of hitting back. Others should do the same.
So, the lefty, Hollywood-type Anne Hathaway wants Obama to “explain the choice of Rick Warren”. Funny, I haven’t noticed any conservatives asking for an explanation of Rev. Gene Robinson, an openly gay pastor.
Typical..
Why should anyone sit down and explain their actions to this narcisstic individual?
WHAT ABOUT YOUR EX?WHAT A IDIOT..She said her and her friends was wondering about the pastor..She should have worried about her ex,,NAIVE and stupid hollywood person.Hey..Al franken..Talk to your friends..
4,000 quatloos to you, sir, for a fun article that also riffs on “Cast Away!” My hat is off!

YEAH!
Wait a minute… who the hell is Gene Robinson?!?!?
Harley – January 11th, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Now you know how we felt every time Chuck Heston talked about the Second Amendment.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Harley I know its hard to wrap your pea sized brain which is attached to a bendy twisting coffee stirrer thingy that serves as your brain stem but Chuck Heston never would have tried to deny you a job because you are a special girl. He had compassion.
What if one were to offer forth this commentary on Anne, “She is a knee jerk emotional Twit”? Just a comment
DEMOCRATS..IF IT WASN’T FOR DOUBLE STANDARDS THERE WOULDN’T BE ANY STANDARDS AT ALL..
ANNE..LOVE TO US DEATH MARRIAGE..LMAO..NO MONEY NO MARRIAGE..GO HOLLYWOOD AND DEMOCRATS
SHE’S WORRIED ABOUT RICK WARREN AND NOT AL FRANKEN..ALOT OF LEFT WING MONEY FOR THIS IDIOT SEVANT..
SEANY YOU FORGOT TO ADD ‘I LIKE PUDDING!!1!’ TO YOUR STRING OF POSTS..I LIKE PUDDING TOO!!
Stop watching her movies and when her income is cut, maybe then the economy would mean something to her. What a brat she has become.
Ou-yo-yu what a nice site!
