Paglia & Co. Blame Everyone-Anyone But Man In Charge
by Riley HunterI occasionally like to poke around Salon.com for a healing dose of tolerance, inclusion and progressive enlightenment whenever my heathen conservative predilections get the better of me. Imagine my shock when browsing through some reader comments when I saw the sort of lowbrow discourse usually reserved for people who couldn’t get into Swarthmore or Brown and never drove a Saab: “go fuck yourself;” “you’re so full of shit;” “shut up idiot;” “get a fucking clue;” “screwball… crank;” “bitch;” “whore;” and the never encouraging, “cunt.”
What was happening here? A good-n-proper reaction to the obligatorily reviled Ann Coulter? Did Sarah Palin say something unacceptably state-schooly on TV again? Did an enemy trollette deposit some right-wing talking point in an otherwise high-minded and compassionate Salon discussion thread? Alas, something much more catastrophic had occurred: one of the flock strayed and had to be punished.
Spunky feminist and noted Obama enthusiast Camille Paglia dared speak ill of the first seven weeks of the Obama Presidency in her most recent monthly column, and Salon’s intellectual backwash devoted readership would not stand for it. So just what did Ms. Paglia say to force these rabid jackals to cannibalize one of their own? Ironically, nothing critical about Obama himself, rather, she criticized “his flacks, fixers and goons — his posse of smirky smart alecks and provincial rubes” who led The Chosen One astray. In fact, she bent herself into a yoganidrasana to avoid criticizing Obama, “in whom [she] still [has] great hope and confidence.”
However, it seems that even critiquing the lackeys, yes-men, tax cheats, polished turds and fellow Ivy League Affirmative Action admits who now infest the White House Best and the Brightest Part II is enough to mobilize the Hope/Change Musketeers into battle since it’s an admission that all is not rainbows, sunflowers and waterfalls in Obamatown… “just give him a chance, man, it’s only March.”
Of course, for a litany of reasons discussed on this site at length, Obama’s first two months in office have been a study in ineptitude, failure, and public embarrassment. It’s too early for an “I told you so,” but what we’re seeing now is about what one would expect if a clueless, inexperienced community organizer with socialist erogenous zones was rammed into the White House by a desperate, frothing electorate more concerned with punishing the old guy than picking the right new guy.
Ms. Paglia’s Salon article and comment section betray two strains of debilitating denial currently ravishing the Obama Left. The more obvious case is that of the rank-and-file goose-steppers who see nothing wrong with bungling cabinet appointments to the point of absurdity; inexplicably insulting our strongest foreign ally; publicly indulging a juvenile personal vendetta against a meanie radio host; fear-mongering the Dow to 12-year lows; signing the filthiest pork bill in U.S. history without reading or writing it; lifting America’s knickers and bending over for the much more clever Vladimir Putin; closing Gitmo without an exit strategy; etc. In the eye of the true believer, all of this is miraculous and wonderful by definition because Obama did it. For this group, any blemish on Obama’s record is sooner the fault of George W. Bush, Sasquatch or the Illuminati than it is that of the first African-American President of the United States.
Ms. Paglia’s brand of denial is more sinister. Unlike the “Bush lied, babies died” types, she’s smart, honest and perceptive enough to identify the idiocy within the Administration itself, but can’t fathom how it may possibly be attributed to Obama. Yes, Obama surrounded himself with rubes, thugs and hacks who are now embarrassing him and the country. But he was The One who was either too weak, too inexperienced or too stupid to select better people. Yes, “the White House [looks] like an oafish bunch of drunken frat boys,” but guess who was the Rush Chair when these lightweight dweebs pledged?
Should it surprise anyone that the same guy who cultivated the affections of crooks, terrorists and racists while building his Chicago power base didn’t change when he moved to the White House? You can take the community organizer out of the hood, but you can’t take the hood out of the community organizer (a statement that applies equally to the current Chief of Staff). Perhaps it’s time we add competent executive leadership to the ever-expanding laundry list of items above Barry’s pay grade.
Ms. Paglia can’t imagine how her archetypal Leader of Men can possibly screw up. She and the tweed and Volvo crowd she hangs with could not bear the personal devastation attached to admitting the problem is with BHO himself. Surely the American intelligentsia is much too sophisticated to be duped by pretty platitudes deftly read from pretty teleprompters by a glorified used car salesman in a hand-tailored Burberry suit. These people are personally invested in playing the role of de facto Obama apologists. The cognitive dissonance associated with Obama buyer’s remorse would drive them to double-up on their daily intake of martinis and Xanax. By rationalizing his inadequacy, they vindicate themselves. Obama isn’t incompetent, his people are. Actually, now that I think about it, Stalin was really a pretty cool cat, the Politburo made him do it.
Obama’s recent treatment of Gordon Brown gave us a small window into the kind of guy we’re truly dealing with: classless, offensive and tacky (odd that this also seems to describe socialism!). This is not how presidents behave. Unfortunately, it appears that this president’s skill set does not extend beyond campaigning. On the job training is for Wal-Mart greeters, not American presidents.

with socialist erogenous zones
Hilarious, and spot-on.
Also, my compliments to the BigHollywood Photoshop staff–that might be the funniest Obama illustration yet.
Well put. At first I found myself criticizing the sarcasm. I then imagined the article without the biting levity and it made me dizzy. The ridiculousness of it all is astounding. I think to stay sane we need to laugh. I just hope the left realizes we're laughing at them, not joining them in their mindlessly devoted joy.
"it’s an admission that all is not rainbows, sunflowers and waterfalls in Obamatown…"
You forgot the unicorns.
Gotta have unicorns in utopia.

"It’s too early for an “I told you so,” "
No it's not.
Waaaaaay before the election, I was saying that an Obama administration would make us look back on Jimmy Carter with longing and nostalgia.
It's so reassuring to see that I am not alone!
Obama could commit a triple homicide and Andrea Mitchell would say well, in his defense, they WERE bothering him…
Chuck Todd's White House updates in the am are unwatchable due to the fact that he answers questions as if he is part of the cabinet. He replies to criticism with, well, what the administration would say in their defense is…
It's sickening.
My fear is that no matter how bad this gets, and we're getting there fast, that the media will not report it. There is always some idiot out there who knows only what they hear on GMA, and every morning they're hypnotized into believing that the Obamas can do no wrong.
Michelle has toned arms (ugh) so all is well with the world.
For instance, what was up with the ABC defense of Pelosi and the planes? Can you imagine if this was a Republican?! There is no excuse , and yet, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, etc…keep finding excuses.
Worst. President. Ever.
Clarity of thought beautifully expressed. Thanks for writing this! Precision of language is not often found in liberal writing. It requires mental discipline–which is the enemy of liberalism.
"socialist erogenous zones?"
Ouch.
Besides the high value content, how could I compete with a wordsmith who comes up with that kind of statement?
"I wonder if anyone is hiring truck drivers?"(Takes out paper)
Riley, don't you EVER stop!
Not only can they not criticize the Big O, while beginning to realize just how big a presidential embarrassment he is, 4 years from now they'll crow about how much he's grown in office.
groan.
All I can say is conservatives would respond just as viciously at one of their own who criticized Jesus's questionable apostle appointments.
Give Camille half credit for getting it half-right. That's more than I can say for most people of her ilk. She at leasts see's what we see, she just attributes it to Obama's hanger's on instead of him.
Make that a collective groan.
Now the mission for the next fours years is to get the Obamanites to admit that they were wrong and that Bush wasn't that bad. But these are the same people that STILL defend Bill Clinton.
The media can try to hide it all it likes, but it won't go away – people will continue to lose jobs, pay higher taxes and we will be faced with runaway inflation. People will get it despite the media attempts to cover it, because we will be LIVING it.
I think this era of history will be titled Obama and his merry band of Bolsheviks. At least with a funky used car, you've got the lemon law. What can you do a funky group of bores and sycophants – reach for the impeaches? Indeed, life is like a bowl of fruit.
Camille does lean left, but the woman can think and she makes me think. I might end up saying, "Camille you ignorant slut" but I might also say, "you know, you've given me food for thought"
I can't say that about people like Olbermann or Mark Morford (ugh). They are deep in douchbaggery.
Bill Clinton is not as supportive of Obama as one might expect. More and more, Obama is proving to be exactly what I expected after reading all of "Dreams of My Father" and a third of "The Audacity of Hope". The former was an admittedly embellished emotional travelogue geared toward the Oprah Book Club types, and the latter reveals Obama as a master of pointless dialectic. After a third of it, there was no reason to proceed. He is adroit at arguing with himself, of embracing moral relativism as a science of the highest order. To his credit, though, he has said and done a few things that I support. For example, he finally got around to repudiating Eric Holder's repugnant and offensive assertion that Americans are all "cowards". I like his "pay-for-performance" plan for teachers. And there are few other things he's doing OK. We ought not succumb to Obama Derangement Syndrome; we just need to keep the pressure on to hold him accountable to us, "We the People".
Paglia knows full well Obama is a clown.
She's basically a tard wrangler– a term a friend of mine's special ed teacher wife ascribes to herself. I could easily see Paglia thinking of herself as more of a Catcher in the Rye than a tard wrangler, so use that analogy if you like.
What she does is writes a paragraph of clear reason, until the faithful flock starts to melt down from too much painful reality, and then quickly soothes and reassures them that she speaks The Word by following the paragraph of reality with a couple paragraphs of moronic pabulum that serves no purpose but to reassure.
Who was that black preacher on YouTube during the election who was saying Obama wasn't ready? He'd spell some logic out for a few lines and then just interject random nonsense references to Scripture to sort of imply that he was tying it all in to grand truth, which is what preachers often do. Same same. Her readers are not thinkers, they are believers, and she writes accordingly.
I would wish her luck nudging the retards away from the cliff, but I'd rather they fall off.
During my days as an undergrad I could not understand why everytime I would raise an argument against Communism or God forbid Marx himself, I would raise ire amongst the class and typically the professor. It comes down to the simple fact that they are zealots. Academia and a large part of the professional class have been told from the very beginnings of their education that the mainstream thinks in a very specific way with a very small window of acceptable views. Much of what comprises this window of acceptable views is Marx driven. You see, academics are willing to forgive the disturbing tendancies of those that seek power from within a communist framework because, I believe, they have been utterly brainwashed from the days they started watching Sesame Street. As a result, when something happens that doesn't comport with their world views, they lash out at those that would serve to elucidate the shortcomings of thier chosen leaders in classic display of transference, it's psych 101 really.
Ms. Pagila has run afoul of the left many times. . .she has criticized feminists for not at least RESPECTING Sarah Palin, and they let her have it then as well. . .her skepticism of Obama and Company is a long time burr under man a leftists saddle. She's not on "our side" by ANY means, but. . .she's definitely called them out, and they can't stand it.
*T*
Have to say that I look forward to Ms. Paglia's column because, among liberal media, it's one of the few oases in an otherwise desert of criticism of this administration. But your point is excellent. And those who think themselves "secular" do "worship" this new world culture.
That's where my small measure of 'hope' comes from these days. If some of the faithful are already noticing everything isn't right in Obamaland then we know that at least some of them aren't completely brainwashed.
Many conservatives point to Paglia as a lib with common sense. She has common sense but it is in constant battle with her liberal ideology. I guess the reason that so many conservatives quote her is that they Hope she will Change and come around to the right. If that was to come true, I'm sure that she would no longer find herself welcome at Salon.
Paglie does not suffer fools gladly. I believe she will come around.
With Paglia and Hopey, it's like that old Cheap Trick song—"I love you honey but I hate your friends"
(I once read that Rick Nielsen almost beat up Axl Rose & Slash at a party…they were effing with him or something. Woulda paid good money to see that go down)
So many people voted for what they hoped Obama was, what they imagined and wanted to believe Obama was, what all those newspapers said it was safe to assume Obama was, that they still cannot accept that the reality is so very different. Camille Paglia is still clinging to that imaginary Obama, a bit desperately it seems. Her innate honesty and perspective is demanding she revise and update this opinion and she's only gotten as far as blaming his staff. Give her awhile.
Illusions die hard. And it's a little painful to watch. Do you think those comments would be so spiteful if they were written by a confident mind, assured that it had made the right decision. The pitiful cries are only going to get worse and eventually they will turn on the one who abused their faith. Right now it is only demands that we "ignore the little man behind the curtain" soon they will turn on that little puppet master. It will be cruel.
Of course, some, true believers and socialists who like the idea of an America in a state of weakness and decline will never change. They are a minority even among the liberals. Others like Paglia and the overwhelming majority of Obama voters will have to admit, if only secretly, that they've been bamboozled and hoodwinked.
Well, all one needs to do is go to NewsBusters daily to see how the media is still in love with Obama. It is just amazing… they've lost all credibility.
Great article! Thanks
Nothing angers cultists more than one of their own straying from the compound.
Brilliantly, lyrically written. And, it comes with illustrations. Thx.
Funny good writing. They thought they were voting for Robin Hood, and now are realizing the difference between Robin Hood and a Chicago Hood; Robin Hood robs the rich and gives to the poor while a Chicago Hood robs everybody and keeps it all. They expected their messiah to change water into wine, and got "The Days Of Wine & Roses". They are a religion with a challange to their faith and are treating her as an apostate sinner. They would burn her at the stake, but PETA and Al Gore would be offended.
Nothing "questionable" about any of them…all were known before the beginning of time, my friend, with a specific purpose to play in human history (thankfully)…
I was being sarcastic, dude.
And NO ONE wants to work at the Treasury Department. And if anyone shows any interest, they are Tools and Fools.
Directive 10-289 has been put into Full Effect. The Prime Movers are leaving. Who is John Galt?
Have you read Maureen Dowd on Obama recently? Like a double edged sword, Dowd cuts both ways.
Right, just like when Bush wanted Myers on the Supreme Court. Yep, total lockstep there.
Scat shoo, troll.
Yep. Everything the Left believes has its roots in Marxist thought. For instance, the abortion thing — it's not about the right to choose, a libertarian position. It is about "equality," putting women on the same consequence-free sexual footing as men. It's all madness, and ruin and serfdom in the end.
You're right. Ms. Dowd shows some promise.
I'd work at the Treasury — so long as I get a good employee discount on dollars.
If this was one of those "seven stages of grief" situations, Camille would be in "denial" right now — She's hoping that the problem lies in the aides and advisers Obama has, and not in the man she voted for himself. Not all that surprising 60 days into his presidency — you don't want to admit after only two months that you threw your vote away last November — but unless Barack changes quickly, Paglia's just kicking the can down the road to the end of the year, when she's going to have to either admit that Obama is who he is, or join the spin machine in either denying those flaws or just saying any Republican option would have been even worse.
Absolutely, jc. The kids are indoctrinated from Sesame Street through college with left ideals. They don't even teach civics classes that I had in high school any more – the same classes that I learned about communism/marxism – that enabled me to understand from early on what I was hearing from the far left. Unless kids have conservative parents, they are doomed to absorb the crap the liberals surround them with day in and day out. Liberal crap is normal to them.
The irony is the same teacher that I learned my American History from supported a known marxist candidate in this district. So I guess the moral of this story is, if you are a teacher who used to teach about the evils of communism, you are first of all a liberal democrat bought and paid for by the teachers' union.
Camille is great. One of my favorite columnists. From what I can glean, she's just about to peek around the curtain to confirm her suspicions that Milhouse is a fraud.
Great article.
Walmart does not pay people to 'greet' customers. They are not a casino. They are there to prevent people from loading up buggies with ribeye steaks and blowing out the door.
I'd be willing to trade Peggy Noonan for Camille Paglia.
Yeah, but you'd have to work there for five years before you could get your lifetime retirement at 110% of your current wages. Be sure to insist that they pay you in gold.
I'm afraid you're right about the media, Jackie. They're invested in the guy they campaigned for during the election (there's no other way to describe some of the election coverage), so it's unlikely they'll report honestly on his failures, no matter how quickly they pile up, and no matter how damaging they are to the country. Michelle's arms, the Portugese water dog – stuff like that will take the place of substantive reporting and honest analysis.
The only things that will have grown in 4 years will be our tax burden, the national debt and the class of people that live off the government consuming the wealth that a diminshing class of producers create.
"…straying from the compound."
Is that like "leaving the plantation?"
Yeah, I'm definitely on the Paglia side. She's a liberal who actually THINKS. She's 1,175 on the list of people to complain about and she just may come around. But I don't care if she does, if there are always liberals thank God some disagree with their ever deteriorating reasoning.
Great read! I believe that we are starting to see cracks even in BH troll activity. I know it’s anecdotal, however they’re charging into the breach with a little less zeal, and when they do come they just get nasty, frustration perhaps?
No joke. What's happened to Ms. Noonan?
well done, my boy! excellent, excellent, and spot on post.
well, one can only deny facts and logic for so long.
As of this morning, she is still writing for the Wall Street Journal. Today's article is about how we're all on antidepressants and going to shrinks because of our fear of the economy.
I think you're right. I think the biggest thing is that most people here take them in good humor and don't give them the reaction they want. I remember when the net first got going one troll could kill an entire board beause people didn't know how to handle them and took their comments personally. By now though, people have learned how silly it is to fight with them. Nice work BH community!
"Obama’s recent treatment of Gordon Brown gave us a small window into the kind of guy we’re truly dealing with: classless, offensive and tacky"
Amen! I was so embarrassed that I actually wrote a letter of apology to Ambassador Sheinwald to express my regret to to the PM, the British people, and HRH Queen Elizabeth II. It would be perfect it if ya'll would do the same!
Find that lovely stationery that you haven't used since e-mail was invented and write a nice note – ya'll remember how to do that! Drag out Emily Post or Miss Manners if you have to – those Brits are 'vedy' proper . (wonder if you can find proper etiquette on line?) Here's the address:
Sir Nigel Sheinwald
c/o British Embassy
3100 Massachusetts Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20008
And "Amen" to Katie-O's post!
It's not too early for 'I told you so'. Not at all.
I’m new to this, my daughter straightened me out with the skinny, and I know this sounds sick but it can be fun to play with a troll they’re quick to anger ha… It’s kinda like a bully in a playground just run up pop him in the noggin and he’ll go run get under mommies skirt. That being said I know you can’t argue with a sick mind, best to leave’em alone and they’ll go away.
I agree with that… and I will admit to doing a bit of verbal to verbal combat with our trolls. I think fighting with them is fine so long as you don't treat them seriously and you don't allow yourself to get upset. I think the people here have been very good at depriving the trolls of the rage they feed on, and it's really reduced their numbers week after week.
Sorry, John – The big O didn't repudiate Holder's 'white people are cowards' statement one tiny bit. All the big O said was that he would have 'phrased' Holder's racism differently. You know, as in 'I would have raped her differently', etc. But as for repudiating Holder's racism? Nope. The big O flatly refused. In smashing white Americans between the eyes with the anvil of racism, all the big O would have done was simply choose a different weapon.
Yeah, that's the big O. All surface and no substance. You know – only skin deep.
All We IS Saying, Give Rezko A Chance…

Yeah well, I've recently witnessed many fellow conservatives engaging in this type of behavior too.
Hot Air readers have shredded Michael Steele and Meghan McCain for daring to speak ill of conservative darlings Rush and Coulter.
This "save the fortress at all costs" mentality with some conservatives is rather imprudent IMO.
Are conservatives to turn into that which they abhor and become so uncompromising that even a hint of dissent within the ranks must be immediately quelled?
Hell, if I wanted that I would've stayed a liberal.
Obama's like Clinton and Kerry in this respect: He sees both sides of every coin long enough to do NOTHING of merit, then pocket the loose change.
We saw a couple of real dosh garn articulate failures in Carter and Clinton, and we're seeing the same show now.
Sadly, some percentage of MOOPS never learn — though we all still yet again get to pay their self-serving bills.
Oh well.
HILLARY HAPPENS.

If she comes over to our side that'll be one less person with some common sense on the other side.
The troll population is definitely way down since the site started. On the first day, it seemed like there were more trolls then genuine readers. Why, I would almost suspect that somewhere on the net there was a post telling the loyal leftist minions about the new site that they must flood with angry comments. But I can't believe that such ardent supporters of the First Amendment would do something so contrary to the concept of Freedom of Speech.
Repeat after me, ObamaMoonies.
It's a CULT.
You are in a CULT.
*sigh*
It's not working.
Get me the jumper cables.
You don't know much about conservatives.
Now that the celebrated con artist has to actually do the job, he is lost. Most people know from experience that the head of an organization sets the level of competence, integrity, etc. The sorry bunch he has picked are a reflection of his own character or lack thereof. Camille is blinded by her emotional attachment to the Fool in Chief. She is likely to get over it because the Fool has shown he is very much set in his inept and arrogant ways. What surprises me is that this has happened so fast. I thought ambition for a second term would curb his stupidity.
I second that emotion. Camille may get it wrong but I always feel she is genuine and she is a talented writer.
I read the article; it was fvery well-balanced. And like you, I was amazed at the level of mean-spiritedness.
Wait'll they see what Obama and his Congressional cronies slipped in the Omnibus bill–now the United Nations can levy a tax on American taxpayers. And I confirmed that before I wrote about it. I think every US citizen should mail the administration a copy of the US constitution. I will go to jail before I give the UN another dime. And Ban ki-Moon called us "deadbeats" today. best, Kay Day
I admit I rarely visit the lefty blogs, it feels like walking into a scuzzy dive where your shoes stick to the floor because they never mop it. But it seems the trolls insult each other quite a bit without much intelligence but plenty a of vulgarity. Hey guys, remember it's so uncool to lower the vibration like that.
And there are plenty who say nothing or say give them a chance. Politics is full of emotion and some people insist their way or the highway.
Oh god no, a serious debate with a troll, never. They engage in pretzel logic always drawing a line of morale equivalent and sling invective from their miserable dark holes, it’s a trap. But, we should be careful to not be to quick calling “troll,” sometimes it’s a misguided liberal with a different point of view, and that keeps it interesting, as opposed to the hallelujah choir.
Clinton was impressive in his knowledge of issues, his lack of character is his downfall. A wasted talent. John Heinz Kerry was impressive in his lack of knowledge, yet he still got the nomination anyway.
I may not agree with her on much, but Paglia has intellecual honesty. She can remain a liberal and still come out against bad policies or the "fairness" doctrine. I respect that. Unlike most libs, I think she would be fun to spend time with. Not least because – at last! – there´s a woman who doesn´t want to get in my pants
I wonder what it is that needs to happen in order to finally kick those liberals so hard that their eyes finally pop open? Whatever it is, It should be interesting to watch. We'll be talking lunacy city here. I mean, if a tiny, intelligently written bit of honesty about the aides of the Messiah but not the Messiah himself gets these liberals frothing like rapid raccoons near water, what on earth is it going to be like when the green curtain is yanked back on the big O himself? Wow!
Oh, fooo! Forgot to spell check myself. It's 'raBid' raccoons.
They’ll need intense therapy. These myrmidons are so committed to Washington politician it’s almost love, a deity if you will. The let down will be immense, and it’s coming.
Camille knows full well that this is Obozo's mess, and that this simpleton and buffoon is nothing more than a manufactured, made-for-TV President. Let's be honest here, he's not that smart. His "intelligence," like that of JFK and all Democrat Presidents, is a liberal myth! Lots of people go to Ivy League Schools – big deal! As the Kool-Aid continues to wear off, I have confidence that she'll blast this unqualified Bozo with both barrels (figuratively, of course).
She made the mistake of finessing the article and limited her criticism to those surrounding Obozo in the belief that it would save her from the rabid fanatics and MSNBC crowd. It was a simple miscalculation, that's all. To use the poker term, at this point, she might as well go "all in" and say what those few "liberals with sanity" are now thinking; Oops, Buyer's Remorse!
unicorns drinking from a orange soda pop stream, then munching on a jelly bean bushes.
It's like "straying off the reservation"
Does the term unindicted co-conspirator ring a bell? Anybody within a stones throw of Treasury may go down, and Obama will the unidicted one…
newsflash: Maxine Waters SHOULD GO TO JAIL! She won't, she's "urban"…
Exactly, except that somehow compound seems more appropriate in this case.
"By rationalizing his inadequacy, they vindicate themselves."
Self-vindication as a national pastime will now be the norm, at least for 52.7% of the voters…and the MSM. And we, of course, will be framed as screeching haters on the perpetual attack. OUR dissent is unpatriotic, dontcha know.
Great article, RH!
I think they've already got Noonan, so we may need to find someone else to trade.
While I agree that ad-hominem attacks on fellow conservatives is uncalled for, to rationally criticize our own sets us apart from the cultists…..oops, I mean Progressives. However, let us also remember there is a big difference these days between a Republican and a Conservative. I am afraid Mr. Steele seems to be a "go along to get along" kind of Republican and I think we know what we get with that type!
I've noticed that a co-worker of mine, who is one of those that thinks Hopey can walk on water, has been very quiet lately and won't even talk about his messiah anymore, so there's that.
If The One fails the Clintons become relevant again. It would be pretty hard to Hillary to run against The One in 2012 (especially as a member of his administration), but you never know.
I like reading Paglia…….fairly rational commentary from the other side. RH is right, she needs to abide by the old saying, the buck stops a the big desk! I just wish I could help myself from looking at the commentary afterwards, but like looking at the car wreck while going by, I just can't stop.
Interesting. I hadn't thought of Paglia that way. I'll have to check this next time I read her column.
"Douchebaggery". Thank you for that, RR! I fully expect to see this word appear in Webster's Collegiate Dicitonary before long.
"Douchbaggery. (noun) from the French 'douche baggette', and the Greek, 'duchus baggus', meaning 1. The ineffectual method of filth-cleansing a socialist mindset, 2. A mental state of filth and confusion, arrogantly misrepresented as thoughtful concern. 3. Faux intellectualism. Liberal dumbthink. Arrogant narcissism personality disorder raised to an art form.
(See also, Douchbagging, douchbagged, douchbagge, douchbuggy, and douchbuggery on the high seas)
I get your point (the joke) and it's a good one.
Of course, Paglia will never come over to "our" side. What she will do, as others have pointed out, is not suffer fools gladly and call them out on their idiocies and absurdities. Good for her. I enjoy her writing and will think about what she says because I trust that she's not writing from some reflexive party line position, but is putting some thought into her positions.
Hmmm, now that I think about it, if "our" side is the one of thought and reason, regardless of ideological orientation, then–happily–she's already here.
